Winter of '74 I'm fairly sure by its date stamp, it is extremely hard to read, I could be wrong. Made in Chicago. 18 fret. I have absolutely no clue the wood on this thing. I'd greatly appreciate it if someone drops me a line regarding wood used.

Sunburst finish, parlor sized, 3 to a side tuners. I do no that the wood is painted to look like rosewood, but its not, the paint wore off in places. I am highly interested in knowing its body and neck material though.

Sound : 5
Well then. Heres the deal. If you're looking for a great sound with glorious chords ringing out, very full bodied and 3 dimensional. This isnt it. And its not it by a LONG shot.

However, it has a real tinny and small sound. That is, it is not without its merits. It can be great for some delta blues, slide playing, and bluegrass styles. Also I tend to like it for flatpicking country tunes. I highly prefer this cheapo guitar for those stated styles. So, keep that in mind.

I'm rating it a 5. Because most people wanting an acoustic are generally looking for great sounding, full bodied chords and this is definately NOT going to give it to you.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 4
Tiny frets. Frets out badly up near the neck joint. Tuners surprisingly do a great job. Wierd trapeze style bridge. Its was marketed as a "student" guitar. So, expect some cut corners on the wood quality and such. Like I stated earlier. The fretboard is simply painted to look like rosewood.

Reliability/Durability : 7
I've been playing this little guy for about 18 years. The finish has rubbed off the fretboard, but surpringly, its held up great and has no other damage to speak of.

I've been playing for around 20 years. This guitar was inherited and has sentimental value. I probably would not have gone out and purchased this guitar on my own. However, now that I know its quirks (that I've grown to love) I probably would hunt down another if something should happen. You really get that delta blues tone out of these things. Those guys played Stellas themselves. Considering the prices they sell for these days, Why not??
