'88 The Heritage H-140 with maple cap on mahogany body with Gibson Les Paul Standard type top binding and brown sunburst with a bit of cross band striping.
Body thinner than a Gibson, with a sharp cutaway.

Unbound rosewood fretboard with pearl dot position markers. 22 Frets.

Chrome Schaller pickups and chrome surrounds match the chrome Schaller roller bridge and heavy stop tailpiece with black tip-up string anchors.

Grover tuning machines (chrome).

Pretty much like a thin Les Paul Standard or Deluxe, but not so red, and the cutaway is a bit different.

Sound : 10
Sounds VERY good with 9's or 10's nickel strings through my Tech 21 TM60 amp.
Has a fatter, more resonant, and deeper tone than my stock Gibson Les Paul Studio with 490R/498T pickups.
It sings on distortion settings and has a great grind and wallop for chords. The Studio sounds a bit sterile in comparison.

Very bright on clean tones. The pots all work very well to adjust the volume and tones.

People tend to slag the Schaller roller bridge and pickups, but on this guitar everything works very well and makes for a GREAT Les Paul type tone.

This guitar has been around a while. I bought it used for $499 with a headstock repair.

The neck is a nice Gibson Deluxe or Standard feeling shape. Noy too big or small. Just right, like a lot of vintage Deluxes.

The whole vibe here is Deluxe or LP Standard "Gibson."

The nitro finish has some checking and vintage patina from natural aging and use, and there are some nicks, but no signs of abuse (beyond the headstock repair).

The woods and finish are still pretty much intact. It's a player: what high-dollar vintage reissues try to be.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Warhorse that seems to have held up pretty well.

Customer Support : 9
I've had other Heritage guitars.

They are more responsive than most companies.

Overall Rating : 10
You wouldn't know this wasn't a vintage Les Paul Standard or Deluxe (though the humbuckers are fullsize) Gibson if you didn't notice the headstock design, cutaway, thinner body, or dot position markers on an unbound neck.
It is basically a "vintage" Les Paul but for cheap.

The thinner body works great with the hardware and pickup choices to deliver sound and playability on a par with any good Gibson Les Paul.

The neck "flows" like a good Les Paul too. VERY Gibson fretwork, neckshape, and feel (go figure).

If I got rich I'd hoarde these 140's.

This Heritage 140C was made in 2001. It has a maple body, one piece neck and a rosewood fretboard. It has a custom chestnut burst finish which looks beautiful. It has a Les Paul style body. It has a tune-o-matic bridge. This guitar was made in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It has two Schaller pickups, two tone and volume controls and a 3 way toggle switch.

Sound : 7
The original Schaller pickups were weak sounding, in my opinion. I replaced them with a Duncan Pearly Gates in the bridge and a Duncan Jazz pickup in the neck. I also installed a tone master in one of the tone pots. I cannot believe what a difference these alterations made. I can virtually get the sound of any type of guitar from a tele to astrat to an ES 175. I play through a Vox Valvetronix amp. I use the guitar to play classic 60's rock and jazz. (score based on original pickups)

I purchased this guitar new from Vegas Guitars in Las Veagas, Nv. The owner, Neil Smith adjusted everything on the guitar from the string height to the pickup height. (Neil is a master guitar tech and a real nice guy to deal with). The guitar palys like a dream. The fit and finish coming from the factory is supurb.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I love this guitar!!!! I play it every day. It is a solid, utilitarian guitar that sounds great and looks great. I replaced the orignal strap buttons with Dunlop locking buttons.

Customer Support : 10
I wanted information on the guitar before I bought it. I called Heritage in Michigan. I spoke with someone who builds the guitars. ( I did not have to go through a switchboard, secretary, etc). Amazing! The person who spoke with me was very polite, and he answered all my questions.

Overall Rating : 10
I love this guitar. I would definately buy another one. I would make the same modifications to suit my style. The only drawback are the Schaller pickups. I have palyed seriously for about 12 years. I own a Triggs San Salvador (just for jazz), an Eastwood Nashville 12, Eastwood High Flyer, and a Morgan Monroe acoustic-electric.

Cherry burst, older one with the black back of headstock. Cool stripey flame. Shaller PU and tuners.

Compared to my 2 LPS it wins hands down in the weight category. The roller bridge wasn't a hassle but I changed it out anyway. Great pulls, taps, hammer-ons and pull-offs. Came with Variphase.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
No worse set up than my Les Paul Custom.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Never gig without three guitars. It'll last the entire set if I don't douche the strings.

Great guys to talk to. No actual repair. I use www.soestguitar.com for all my axe needs and you should too. Good enough for Keith Richards - good enough for me.

Killer Les Paul clone. Replace it in a heartbeat. Have to go with SD '59s like my Heritage 535 but that's another review.

I bought mine used for 500$. it has grovers, roller bridge,
mahagony body,maple top,2 hummers,coil taps,dot neck.vintage burst
,and a heritage case.I had the choice to buy a gibson paul
but the fretwork was shoddy and the heritage had low profile
frets and a fast as hell neck. which one would you pick?

Sound : 10
it does the rock and blues thing as well as jazz.
thru my old marshall it is great, coil tap on the neck p/u freat
rhythm sound ,switch to full hummers and it overdrives the amp nicely.
full paul sound.but here is the catch mine was made in 1984
and under the lawsuit with gibson they had to use 250k vol.pots
which severely loads the p/u.so I changed the pots to 1meg. and
the balls showed up.I have had this guitar for years and never regretted buying it

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
bought it used, plays like a dream.great quality in workmanship

Reliability/Durability : 10
built to last

the only time I ever talked to them was to date the guitar

U.S. Made in the Michigan plant. I wanted a new Les Paul, but was so disappointed in the current quality control I'd seen in recent Gibsons that, after extensive shopping and research, I decided to have Heritage make me a Gold Top H140C with an ebony fretboard and Duncan Seth Lover pickups. I went with them based on other's reviews and their reputation for building fine quality guitars at reasonable prices, as well as my experience with other models of theirs that I played during my search. Other features are standard for a Les Paul type guitar, Grover tuners, their version of adjust-a-matic bridge, stop tail, etc. I waited over four months for the guitar to be completed, but realized that what I would be getting was basically a custom, handmade guitar. A hardshell case was also included. According to papers included with the guitar, warranty is for one year.

Sound : No Opinion
I have absolutely no idea how this guitar sounds, as it was virtually unplayable when I received it. Please read on.

Here is where the fun begins. I have never posted any type of review on the net, but am hoping that this one will be of assistance to others who contemplate ordering a Heritage and waiting four months for it. I have been playing for +/-15 years and have several guitars. These range in quality from an el-cheapo Epi copy of a Les Paul Jr. to a PRS McCarty. In addition to these, I played dozens of Les Paul variations, including some of the Heritage models, during my recent search. I can honestly say that the H140C sent to me showed some of the poorest workmanship that I have ever seen. The Epi LP Jr. (bought new for $99.00) was put together in some Korean sweatshop better than this thing was. First noted upon opening the case was a chip in the fretboard which was crudely glued back in with no attempt to blend the wood together. In other words, the chip just sat on top of the rest of the fretboard to chop away at your finger every time you were in the vicinity of the second fret. Next, I saw that the finish at the back of the guitar was applied so thin that bare wood was showing through. Especially troubling was the next item, an overdrilled hole for one of the strap buttons. Since the hole was too big for the screw they used, it was someone's bright idea to just drive the strap button in at an angle, hard. This let about 1/4 inch of the screw find some purchase in the wood, but drove the strap button deep into the body, through the finish. At first, I thought this might be an optical illusion, but backing the screw out two turns, it just fell out of the hole. All of this was noted before I tried to play a note. The neck was so out of whack that there was no way to play the guitar from the first to fifth positions. Not just string buzz, but a sound like running a piece of steel wool over a rust covered pie pan. I realize that this could have been travel related, as the guitar was sent to Washington State from the east coast. I always have my tech set up any new guitar to my desired specs, but in 15 years of playing, purchasing, trading, hacking, whatever, I have never put my hands on a more poorly set up instrument. This is not intended to be a bitchfest, but as I have never read a bad review of Heritage Guitars on Harmony Central or any other forum, I wanted to let others know of my experience.

Reliability/Durability : 1
Thank God for a great dealer, Chuck Levin's Washington Music. These guys are tremendous. They were my Heritage connection and ordered it for me originally. When I called and read the list of details wrong with the H140C, I was told to send it back to them. I expressed concern that if this was how the factory sent this axe out new, I did not want it to be "quick fixed" and sent back to me. No problem. It is now, more than likely, relegated to the wood stove heating the Heritage plant. In summary, be careful when you make a long distance purchase like this based on other guitars, reviews and a company's general reputation, as I did. Obviously, many have had great experiences with Heritage and mine may be the exception to the rule. Maybe the old guys are going soft, who knows? Just make sure that a reputable dealer who stands behind the sale is involved or you could be screwed.
