2003 #18 produced. Original (i.e. dark brown) Sunburst Finish. All solid wood, maple sides, very curly maple back, spruce top. Florentine (sharp) cutaway. This model is the Heritage version of an early 1960's Super 400 CES. I like the pickguard, no points, classic shape curly maple, aslo dark sunburst. Long 25.5" scale, 2 humbuckers (I think the HRW versions). Non compensated ebony bridge, multiple bindings on neck and front body edge, single binding on rear body edge. Grover imperials, and a fancy, each string individually adjustable for tension gold tailpiece. Very nice top and bottom arched TKL case.....This is one big muttha.....

I play blues and some jazz standards. I will play this very clean through a Boogie Mark 1. I like the humbuckers with the big archtops as you can get some treble response.....I am sure this is a feedback machine.....

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
This one has fairly good fit and finish. I am very picky and I see some binding flaws i.e irregular surface where the binding interfaces the top or back. Setup is also pretty good 5.5/64" at 12th fret on the bass and 4/64" on the treble side. No doubt some tweaking / string changes can lower this somewhat. Fretwork is good, but frets not polished; again no big deal. Back is beautiful tight fiddleback; sides have less flame.....top is spruce, so no flame, but looks good.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Looks durable and reliable...nitro finish will take some care to keep nice. In my opinion, this is every bit as good, if not better than a Gibson....and the way Gibson is going these days...this is a much better insturment fo the money

These guys are a small operation. I previously had an Eagle Classic that I bought about a month ago and traded in on this guitar. Had some lacquer checks on the pickguard, no big deal. Dealer arranged to have another pickguard made. We even traced the pickguard shape and screw hole location to account for the hand making variation. Waited a month and it came wrong...right color, wrong shape (they made it for a H-575). Guess they did't check it agaist the tracing THEY recommeded I do...Oh Well. The point is these guys march to the beat of a different drummer. However, Bill Paige was very nice on the phone.... My dealer, Jeff Hale is great.....

Overall Rating : 9
Played 30+ years; have Custom Shop Fenders, 2 Collings Flat tops, 2 PRS's. I would buy again if stolen or lost.....This guitar is just a super jazz box...shouldn't have to think about another one ever..... Heritage is a great guitar value....I have to pick through them a little bit (I am a bit fussy).....
