I bought this new in 2006 (?) I think. This is as descirbed below, mine is transparent red with the p-90's. Adjust0o0mtics style bridge with stop-style tail. This guitar is heavy and resonant, with a very mahogany-like sound (somehow). Cheap grover tuners. Came from MF with the cheapest gig-bag imaginable (which I have used a lot).

Yes, I did give it a 10. As disussed below the sound is the only redeeming quality of this puppy. I was also considereing sending it back until I plugged it in and then, woah. The neck pup especiall sounds as good as any I have ever played. I use it as a backup to my strat with texas specials and I actually think this one sounds a little better. I play through a vintage tube amp with relatively few effects. This git can do rock (it sings on AC/DC style stuff), punk, blues and I can even get some great depp jazz tones out of it. My plans for this guitar are to salvage the parts and build them into a kit.

Total crap. Neck and fret work are laughable. Hardware is cheap but goodish quality.

I have not roadtested this one, but the set neck makes me worry (yes I am a fender guy). For home use it is solid as a rock.

I have been playing for about 21 years. I have owned a lot of cheap, crappy guitars. The neck does feel like an old gibson baseball bat, but the flat fretboard and crappy frets ruin the vintage vibe.
This one sounds AMAZING plugged in, but is really just another crapy guitar. I am glad I bought it, just so I can salvage the pups.

The wood on the guitar is surprisingly good--very resonant. The fretwork is outstandingly bad; it's world class. You'd have to go back to the '50s to find frets this crappily seated. The tuners hold fairly well, and the binding on mine is OK. If only they'd put a few dollars into the frets!

The sound of the guitar is shocking. I paid $119.00 for it on the Internet and intended to send it right back when I realized just how amazingly bad the frets were--until I plugged it in. I LOVE the sound of this piece of garbage. It's great for blues and sounds best cranked. It's basically only useable for slide, however.

Terrible set-up. The worst I've ever seen. The fretwire might have been installed by middle school kids on recess. Action was atrocious. Good wood on mine. Pickups must be pretty good too.

Strap buttons are OK, but they're placed to make the guitar neck heavy. I moved the button on the horn to the back of the neck. Now it's almost balanced. I've never had a guitar break during a gig. If one ever were to, it would be this one.

I've been playing for decades. I bought this off the internet because in all my years I'd never had a guitar with p-90s. (Odd really.) I LOVE the sound so much I'm thinking about having the guitar professionally refretted. It's sort of stupid, I know, but even after the refret, I'll only have $370 invested in the guitar. It might be worth it.
If they hadn't bothered to bind the neck or put in stupid inlays but had put the effort into the frets, this guitar could have been really cool.

New 2005??? 2 P-90s. 3 way, I think the middle cancels hum. Typical cheap ass Chinese LP Jr. doublecut copy..(Not nearly, and I'm talking millions of miles from, as nice as a Tokai TV Yellow doublecut..)
Sound

I wanted a LP Junior but all the ones I played sounded like crap, and I'm not shelling out $5000 for a vintage or $2000 for vintage reissue. I tried this thing through a Victoria Champ and I'll be damned if it didn't sound pretty good. I've played it through an old tweed Pro and my 35115Vickie and it rocks, I swear! Especially if you crank the tweed to that sweet grind, it feeds back pretty awesome.

This guitar is pretty much a piece of crap. Really sloppy fretwork etc. but what more could you expect for $200. I had to readjust the pups, every pole. Pretty much do a whole setup, truss, bridge etc.. My headstock inlay letters are all leaning in different directions....but I can nail that Ragged Glory sound with this hunk o' junk. Oh yeah I had to file down 3 frets and dress them too.

I think if you wrapped it in duct-tape it would be a pretty worthy gig guitar. I did notice that they use nice strap buttons on it!!!

This will mark my 22'nd year doin this whole guitar game! This thing is at least as nice as the Teisco I found in a dumpster 15 years ago. The P90s sound awesome!! I swear! I like cheap guitars, and I like expensive ones as well. Price aside, if it plays great and sounds great whats not to like. It does look funny in my collection, various Tom Andersons, G&L ASATs, etc. But I swear when you crank it, you get visions of Weld, or Rust Never Sleeps....

2005 Hofner colorama with 2 p90's, put together in China, solid body with lovely semi transpare burgundy finish, nice grain showing through, 2 volume 2 tone and one 3 way, understand that neck and body are mahogany(but dont hold me to that) rosewood fretboard, grover tuners(says grover on em and they feel and look nice quality, faux tortoishell dot markers, Tune o matic bridge.

Suits all of the styles of music i like, blues to rock, using this with a marshall mg35 and a wem valve head and 4x12 stack, has some hum when either bridge or neck pup are selected individually but hey theses are single coil pups and its no where near as bad as either my Strat or tele and a million miles away from the guild i have with de'armonds fitted, mid position is hum cancelling. Notice that the hum disappears as you move away from the amp. This guitar has loads of sustain, deep rich ballsy sounds, lovely bottom end and mids and a nice top end as well, not sure it'd be anyones ideal rock axe but its possible to coax a huge range of sounds from it with a little knob twiddling. Have to say that since i spent a little time setting the guitar up, theres not much to dislike here.

Action was set up high from the factory,. may suit some but not me, spent a little time lowering the action and balancing the pickups and now its just fine. Pickups and all the other fittings where fitted nicely, all the frets were dressed properly, no rough or sharp edges, nothing loose or rattling, everything bar the action height was as id like to find it on a new guitar.

Everything about this guitar appears solid and well made, id have no hessitation playing it live and i have to say that since its purchase ive had a job putting it down, despite the fact that i own some great guitars this one is definately flavour of the month at the moment.

I rate this guitar, it is most things for most people and not many guitars are in my experience as versatile as this.
If it were stolen id buy another for sure, after hunting down and dealing with the dog that took it.

This is a follow-up on my review to address the accusations of the U.K. fella also reviewing a similar guitar. 1st, "DC P-90" is the correct number in the USA. That's the model number that was on the box and that's the model number that was on the receipt from Music 1-2-3. 2nd, NO! I did not see the guitar before I bought it! It was mail order! Ever hear of Music 1-2-3? Maybe not, since you don't live in the USA. My review was fair and objective. I reported what I saw. I did not mis-represent anything. I have seen some pretty amazing and impressive "cheap" guitars. Jay Turser and Agile just to throw out a couple names. The Hofner wasn't one of them. You should be able to understand that, no matter where you're from!

2004 Made in China. Body is basswood with no laminates used. Nice grain shows through the red poly finish. 2 volume, 2 tone one 3-way switch. 2 P-90 style Hofner pups. Fixed neck of unknown wood and a rosewood fretboard. The style is a double-cut design, simple & attractive. Tuners are supposed to be Grover? 25.75 scale length.
Sound
:

The only sound I could get out of this guitar was the neck pup which was surprisingly articulate. Very sweet. The problem was, the 3-way switch didn't work except in the neck position. I don't know if it was switch-related, wireing or bridge pickup related. I give it a 2 for the nice sounding neck pup.

I have never seen a more poorly built brand new guitar. There are issues with the neck binding which looks to be a botched repair job. Saw marks from fret saws between the frets. Rough, splintered edges where the frets were pressed in. Absolutely horrible! The nut was cut way too deep on the A string location and saddles filed way too deep as well. Why talk about intonation & action. It can't be done with the butcher job on the frets, nut and saddles. Again I must mention only 1 pup working. If I could give a negative number, I would.

Cheap, cheap, cheap butcher job. Totally unreliable. This guitar is going back.

I can't belive that even an inexpensive would be allowed to leave a factory anywhere with the defects this guitar has. I can't belive Hofner would put their name on it! I can't believe Music 1-2-3 would try to sell it!

I've played for many years and have never run across a guitar this poorly made in any price range. I own several guitars including a Rick 360, ES-137 Classic, SG Classic, Texas Special Strat, American Telecaster, J45 and Epi Casino Elite. Granted this was an inexpensive guitar but no way should this one ever have left the factory. I suspect there are plenty more of the same out there.
