I was in Germany two years ago when I saw this guitar in a small guitar shop. After talking to the shop owner I found out the guitar was made in Germany in 1965 and was made by Hofner for the Gretz violin company. Very few made. It's a sold body guitar in a strat type shape, but a little thinner and it's covered in a blue vinyl covering that's metallic. It has two single-coil pickups that also have the blue vinyl covering in the middle. Switcable 4-ways from a rotary dial. Tone and volume controls are cool too with the tone knob at that top of the guitar. It has 21 medium frets that are still in great shape on a rosewood board on a baseball bat of a neck. Straight as an arrow.

Has a great single-coil '60's sound which is great for blues, surf, and Beatle type songs. I'm currently running it through a Fender Cyber Twin and it sounds great on all the amp models. The pickups don't have a lot of extra noise like my Strat does. I've used it out on a couple of gigs and it always has people staring.

With the thick neck and the adjustable bridge, the set-up is great. No intonation settings but don't seem to need it.

I don't like to take it to live gigs a lot because I'm not sure I could replace it. But it certainly seems like it's built well. No problems with the finish, it's vinyl so it'll look good 50 years from now.

I love this guitar. I do some recording with it and it's got a unique sound which is very clear and if I could find another one, I'd grab it in a heartbeat. I could then play one out live.
