After bypassing the deadbeat dealer, who seems to have been the weak link, Hohner USA has replaced my guitar with a new one of the current series. They could not have been more responsive or helpful. They also told me that Hohner guitars are guaranteed for life: a detail that the dealer did not reveal. They were just being lazy. All it took was an email to Hohner USA and they jumped at the chance to make it right. I deal with many product manufacturers in my working life, and none has been as responsive as Hohner has been. I apologize for my previous opinion, which I formed relying on the dealer's info. YOU ROCK HOHNER! Thanks.

Unique Ebony laminate back. Solid Spruce top. Made in China. Rosette and headstock logo are a bit flashy, but I looked past them due to the sound quality.

Sound : 10
Sound is outstanding. I was sold on the sound. There is great bass response, and the highs are very clear. This is the best feature of this guitar, as well it should be.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The first one I received had some yellow staining in the wood around the soundhole rosette. Looked like extra glue, possibly. The top also cracked at the corner of the bridge within minutes of tuning it. You could feel the crack with your nail. The dealer replaced it after I drove to NJ and met them face to face. The next one needed the action lowered just a little, no big deal. However, the bridge cracked within 3 days, right across the pins. I keep a case humidifier and a Planet Waves guitar humidifier in all my guitars, never had a problem until this one. Dealer sid he would contact the rep to see if they would provide warranty, but they really just gave me the brush-off. The rating below is for the action, fit, and finish. The rest of the story is reflected in the categories below.

Reliability/Durability : 3
I'm hoping this guitar will not self destruct! The crack in the bridge will get stabilized by my luthier, no thanks to the service received from the dealer.

Customer Support : 2
No warranty. The dealer in NJ, who sells these guitars on eBay, was very friendly, but they wanted me off their backs since this is the second guitar which has had bridge related problems. I won't buy another Hohner. Especially from China.

Overall Rating : 6
I wish everything about this guitar was as good as the sound. I played one at a local dealer before I bought it, but went for the eBay deal to save $200.00. If it were lost or stolen, I'd replace it with something different, or perhaps the same model that was used for a few years and proven it won't fall apart. A shame, really. It sounds so darn good!

This is the EBDG Ebony Guitar model. It has the Dreadnought Body Style. It has a Striped Ebony back and sides, Solid Ebony bridge and fingerboard, Solid Spruce top, Maple body binding, Gold-plated tuners with ebonite keys, and a really nice looking rosette.

It is a really nice looking guitar! There is a deluxe hard shell case specific to this series available separately, which I purchased, and am very happy with it.

Sound : 10
This model has a rich warm tone to it due to the ebony woods used. After researching many guitars, this was by far the best sound for the money.

Of note, the Lutier I took it to was very impressed with the sound. When I asked him for a comparable sound in another model, he pointed to the Martin D35 at a used price of $1200-$1500!

Needless to say, very pleaseed with the sound of this model.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Guitar set-up from the factory was excellent! Action was great, and the fit and finish of the different woods was excellent.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar appears to be very solid. While I haven't used it in a gig situation, I see nothing that leads me to believe it won't hold up extremely well.

Customer Support : 10
When purchasing this guitar a luthier noticed that there was a slight bow around the bridge. After contacting Hohner, they shipped a replacement to the dealer for exchange, no questions asked.

This guitar has a full lifetime warranty, and their Customer Service was truly outstanding. They answered every email I sent to them.

Overall Rating : 10
After a lot of research this was a fantastic value for the money. Great it and finish, and excellent sound.

I would purchase this guitar again in a heartbeat!
