Just a quick note. I sold my red one (see earlier review) and bought a Steinberger GLB-T when I had the chance. Guess what???? The Steinberger is now gone and I have two more Hohner G2T's. I put EMG 85/81 in both and they are the perfect guitar for me. It took me awhile to figure it out...but I love these things. The GLB was not for me, though I wanted one so bad.

i was on the lookout for a left handed thru neck 24 fretter when this beauty came up
i only had 400 aud and initially was going to buy a JACKSON PS04 24,
but the guy in my local 2nd hand music instrument shop said to take a look at the HOHNER wwhich had been lying around his shop for a year and even though it was right handed i plugged it in and it played (even upside down) like a dream slightly fat neck ala LES PAUL
crap pickups but i thought how cool, small and comfortable for playin in front of the tele while watchin dvds etc, so i bought it

Sound : 9
after i replaced the original pups with an old SEYMORE 14k in the bridge and TONERIDER AL4 in the neck disconnected the tone control and it really started to sing like a mini LES PAUL.

i find this to be the easiset(and lightest) guitar to play that ive had in my 40 yrs of playing
and works well for FUSION to ROCK (MARSHAL 50 to VOX AC30)
even though i have various STRATS and HB style guitars i seem to play this one on stage more and more (though the others are used for recording more)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
beautiful wine red finish to body and neck
i have also added a ROLAND midi driver to the body (just fits) for driving an AXON 50 unit
the trem i now love cause i blocked from going up and so it only does down swoops (which is what i like, ,using it like a seasoning on certain notes and chords)
the action didnt need to be touched by me and is ultra fast the zero fret helps here and should be a feature on all guitars i also have it on a 62 FRAMUS RANGER 12 string acoustic and it works well there as well

Reliability/Durability : 10
tough as nails already fallen of stand a few times and didnt even go out of tune (bloody amazing)
in the 5 yrs ive owned it ive never broken a string (and i bend alot)
also im totally slack when it comes to changing strings and have been using the same set of 10-46 GHS that i put on 4 yrs ago but still sits ok in the mix (i share front with a keyboardist so my sound doesnt have to carry everyone(but i think i better change em now im lookin at this as i write hahahahaha (how slack)
i have a backup 355 but have never had to resort to using it in an emergency
im glad as im so used to the light weight(and im getting a bit long in the tooth) that it spoils the creative process if i have to carry a damn heavy guitar onstage
the pickup set up now i have drives my pedal board well

Overall Rating : 9
great instrument
has helped me to become a better player even after such a long time of playing
this has the slickest most forgiving neck
have tried ann original STEINBERGER and a SPIRIT neither comes close to the feel of the HOHNER neck

Mine is a RED 1986 that I bought a year ago. It needed a serious set up. I replaced the EMG Selects with a pair of EMG HZ3's. These made all the difference in the world and I love the guitar now. It has become my main guitar. I am in the market for a second one if I can get it at a reasonable price which may be hard to do now.

Sound : 10
With the new EMG's it sounds great. I use it for original and classic rock. I use a Peavey Prowler tube combo. It is just great since I tuned it up and replaced the pickups.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Action can be set very low, and I like my action low.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Guitar is like a rock. It's small size also helps as you won't be bumping into everything.

Hard to get info on anyHohner guitars, but never dealt with them or tried to.

Overall Rating : 10
Just love it since I put in the upgraded pickups and tweaked the set up.

This is an '87 Hohner G2T that I bought new in '88. I'm not sure what year Hohner started making them but I'm pretty sure mine is from the first or second year of production. It's shape is nearly identical to the Steinberger GL but it is made of maple rather than graphite composit. It has neck-through construction which gives it great sustain and tone. The fingerboard is rosewood with 24 nice jumbo frets. Access to the 24th fret is easy. It also has a zero fret which prevents any difference in tone between open and fretted notes. It has one volume and one tone and a three position pickup selector. The most obvious feature is the Steinberger bridge/tuner. This system works well and keeps the guitar in tune remarkably well. The locking feature is a plus too and makes changing strings and tuning up a quick, easy process. After 19 years my trem started to show it's age a bit, the fulcrum was wearing out a bit and the trem arm was loose in the socket, so I replaced it with a new one from MusicYo that is pretty much identical except that it has roller saddles and a screw to adjust the tension of the trem arm swing. Ed Roman Guitars now has the entire stock of Hohner headless guitars and parts (Hohner stopped making the G3T at the end of '05) so you can try there for replacement parts too. Oh, and it has a neat folding leg rest.

It came with a pair of EMG Select humbuckers. These are EMG's bottom of the line pickups and I never liked the sound. I find them to be thin and muddy. They only put them in guitars to keep the retail price down and an upgrade to better pickups can turn this great playing guitar into a great sounding one as well. I replaced my selects with a set of active EMGs, an 81 in the bridge position and an 85 at the neck. I had to rout out a few millimeters in the cavity with my Dremel motor tool to fit the 9v cell but the work is all hidden under the cover plate. The change in sound is dramatic. Both new pickups sound fantastic anywhere on the neck and the frequency response and output is miles above the old Selects. While I obviously endorse the EMGs a switch to any new pickups, active or passive, by Seymour Duncan, DiMarzio, Bartolini, etc. would be well worth the money in my opinion.

Sound : 9
With the original EMG Selects I have to give it a "5". They were fairly quiet but sounded very muddy. With the EMG 81/85 set though it sounds great. Very similar to a Les Paul actually. If you have one of these guitars or you are thinking of buying one CHANGE THE PICKUPS. You'll be glad you did. You don't need to spend a lot, there are some great deals to be found on Ebay. That's where I found my EMGs.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I recently had the frets leveled and dressed and it plays like new again. All my guitarist friends love the way it plays. The fingerboard has a 12" radius and the neck profile is very much like a Les Paul.

The finish is simple. Black with a poly clear coat. Even after 19 years mine is still in excellent condition with only a few tiny dings. The hardware is very nice and I've never had any quality issues with the construction or finish.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is 19 years old and is still in excellent shape. I replaced the bridge more because I wanted to than because I needed to. I also replaced the wood screws for the strap buttons, pickup rings, and head piece because they had slight surface corrosion and I wanted to restore it to like new condition. It's a very dependable instrument that's never let me down.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never had to deal with customer support.

Overall Rating : 9
I love my G2T and have no plans to part with it. It only weighs 7 pounds and I can wear it for hours. If it was ever lost I would definitly replace it with an identical model.

I play blues, jazz and rock. I've been playing for 23 years. I also have a Peavey T-60 and a Peavey JF1. I play through a Roland JC50 amp. I really want a single coil guitar though so I'm planning on buying either a Hohner Jack or a Hohner G3T and replacing the pickups with a pair of EMG S and one EMG H (single coil in humbucker housing). I'd preffer a Jack just to have something different but if I can't find one I'll get the G3T.

I bought it new in 2002, but suspect it was a second hand reject as the neck looked slightly played and the little piece of covering plastic over the strings at the neck end was missing. I love headless guitars and have two (this and a Hohner Jack). But this beauty was certainly 'low milage' if she was used.
Cricket Bat style, headless, 24 Frets, Solid body.
One Master volume and One Master Tove, Three way pick up selector. 2 Dual coils Select EMGs, which can be VERY heavy on bass sometimes, but nothing that can't be handled.
neck looks Rosewood, body is solid wood...cant tell what as she is painted black. Neck is through the body.
All fittings are Steinberger...the only difference from a Steinberger is that the G2T is made of wood (not carbon) and the pick-ups.
Gig bag was included.
Would've liked more control over the tonal quality of the pick-ups, but they can be changed.

Sound : 8
I play mostly light/heavy rock, through a Kustom 30W and a Zoom effects unit (an old Zoom 9000 or a newer Zoom 606 II).
The sound is very rich in texture and a bit heavy on the low end at times. A bit more 'sparkle' would be nice, but generally I'd only expect that from a Strat style anyway (and my Jack can do all of that).
The sustain is incredible for a guitar in this price range range. The only one better I've played has been a Les Paul. She holds a note well. Being headless, she has a Zero fret, which I always like. There is no noticable difference from a fretted string to an open string and it makes for some gorgeous slick sounding runs at the bottom of the neck.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Perfect at purchase, but that was due to the the great little guitar shop I bought her from in Maidstone Kent. The owner sets all his guitars perfectly. Intonation, action, pickups all spot on.
Gripe. The Tone/Volume pots and pick-up selector do work loose after a while. They can be tighted, by removing the back plate to the access area. Its a really annoying flaw on what otherwise is a great guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 7
This guitar has travelled everywhere with me for 12 months. Shoved inthe gig bag and thrown in the bag of the car.
The subtle neck lacquer will wear with time and I mentioned the pots, selector above.
She did fall off her strap once, whilst I was bouncing around a friends flat with a battery operated Marshall Pocket amp strapped to my belt. I'd recommend strap locks of some kind.
I'd never gig without a back up. I have my Jack for that.
She looks flimsy, but very very dependable.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never delt with Hohner.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing nearly 22 years. Up until 4/5 years ago I played Strats exclusive, prefereing a 62 Tokai replica.
I always wanted a headless and a stick headless. I came by The Jack by accident as a colleague wanted rid of it (cluttering up parents house) and was blown away by that. When I found this stick, she simply had to come home with me (I was actually looking for acoustics that day too).
I played her onthe Friday and bought her on the Saturday. I was so impressed with the combination through a Kustom 30W, that I bought that too. She can sound as sweet as an angel and howl like a banshee.
Strings were hard to get, but the net came to the rescue.
She stays in tune for months!!!! I do a lot of home recording and hardly ever have to retune from session to session.
If I lost her tommorrow....what a horrible thought...definately immediately replace, probably with a G3T though. She looks great, is gorgeous to play and sounds good. Not as good as the Hohner Jack.
The best thing about her though is the size. I've taken her away on business, holidays, weekend aways, heck even brought her into the office a few times. With my small, battery powered Marshall MS-2 on my belt, this guitar is an impressive go-anywhere, instrument. Something so small can produce so much noise. Like I say, I would prefer active circuitary on the pick-ups and something that would give a bit of "top-end".
Primarily you chose this guitar for the look and the praticalities she offers..the sound results are a definate bonus.
One thing to look out for though. If you play sitting down with the little arm slung out to balance on your thigh, cheaper leads soon get bent and damaged as there is little room between the jack socket and the arm for your leg to fit in. Stil it forced me to buy better professional cables which make this guitar sound even better.
She's irriplaceable....I love this guitar to bits.

Unknown year. volume, tont controls, effective and responsive. stays in tune very well

Sound : 8
very full, perhaps a bit "bassy", but not oppressively so. has the very fukll humbucker sound/feel, and handles effects (I use a POD) perfectly. very good rock guitar, loud or soft, and good for low volume playing.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
VERY fast action. a beautiful neck, Rosewood. Smooth frets, and very precise. Good finish. lousy vibrato bar, but not a big deal for me; others might disagree. I love the access it gives to the upper neck, and it sounds REALLY good up at the top end. Sustain is super good, vibrato by hand is easy. medium thick neck

Reliability/Durability : 7
hardware is very middle of the road, jack sucks, but when it is plugged in, it is better to use an "L" cord jack. volume and tone knobs work ok, but could be better

It is definitely a gig guitar. Complements a Strat very nicely. Les Paul sound without the cramp from the weight. People remember you playing this Axe

Don't know what year it is from, I bought it used in the beginning of the 90's. It has 24 frets. It came with two passive Humbuckers by Select/EMG. It has a volume and a tone control. and a 3-way selector.
Don't know what wood it's made of. And of course - it's a headless Steinberger copy with a Steinberger licensed vibrato bridge.
The colour is perhaps not so common - the neckt and the lower half triangle of the guitar is black and the top triangle is white. This ist the same colour as Johnny Winters Steinberger on one of his records cover. The overall quality of the G2T is very good.

Sound : 5
I did'nt like the sound of the original Select/EMG pickups, so I chose to buy two different active EMG's. The original Select/EMG pickups sounded boring, sort of weak and not very exciting, I guess I just did'nt like the sound. Now I have an EMG-85 (front) for smooth full clear-sound and an EMG-81 (back) with great high output for overdrive. I fact both pickups are great for overdrive beside they give me the possibility to choose between a rich variety of lead-sounds. There was just enough room in the body to put a 9v battery in without having to make the space for electronics bigger. I'll give my active a 10 but have to give the original G2T sound a 5

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Very good quality for the price. Pickups are adjusted ok( read above). Properly bookmatched top, properly routed bridge - straight as a line.Flaws - no, just a little rusty pickup screws.

Reliability/Durability : 7
Well I would use it on a gig without a backup - but I would definately not use the vibrato then. The Steinberger vibrato is not very good, it get's the guitar out of tune very fast. Overall everything else is fine.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I tried to get this little hook that can be put on the top of the neck once, but I dind'nt hear anything from the guitarshop about that. I don't know if they had contacted Hohner. So - no opinion.

I have no idea what year this is and will defer to the previous reviews they seem accurate. It's a Steinberger copy.

I don't play electric guitar usually. I run this thing through a zoom 502 acoustic processor (that's right acoustic). It sounds like a bizarre 12 string and is perfect for new age fingerstyle acoustic music.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Plays like nothing I've ever played. incredibly smooth

Played 33 years. This is about the last guitar I'd thought I'd end up with as a fingerstyle player. I bought it for my kid because it's small. She never played it and I took it over. I've heard it is in demand especially the rare white version as a "yoga band guitar." I'd buy another one in a heartbeat if it were stolen. I like it's small size and weirdness. I was playing in an Organic restaurant one night and this guy asked me what kind of instrument it was.

headless, small body, unimpeded access too Every fret. Smooth, fast action. a bit more bass, as other reviews, but easy to correct by amp.
Vibrato bar sucks, finding strings catchy, and parts, too, i suspect. EMG Pickups are crisp, very sommth, if not so versatile. Very good axe in right situation. I will keep mine forever.

sounds VERY nice with Slide, and lots of gain...

Sound : 7
very full, "gibson" sound, driving versus fender twang. Lovely sustain, easy to bend strings, smooth frets nice rosewood neck

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
poor vibrato bar; I rarely use it, so it's not that big a deal. Best action of just about any axe I have ever had. a joy to play. Pickusps are graeat; controls so so; jack sucks; tuning tricky, but you get used to it.

Reliability/Durability : 6
Hardware is a concern, but it deserves to have it's place on a gig. not your "ONLY" git. lovely rock sound.

Late '80s Steinberger copy, including licensed version of their floating bridge tremelo system. Two humbuckers (later G3T had one humbucker and two single-coils), single volume and tone controls, no coil tap. Bridge has a catch that you can use to lock it in place if you don't want to use the tremelo. Unlike real Steinbergers, it's made of wood, and thus quite light. Headless - requires double ball end strings. Funny screw-thread tuners are built in to the bridge - that end of the string slots into a tray, which the screws move in and out. Good system except that the screws can fall out, as one of mine did. Outdoors. In the mud. Never to be seen again. Body and neck neatly lacquered in black. Dark wood fretboard. Neck fattish and round, very smooth. 24 frets. Tiny, obviously, and vertically symmetrical - two strap points and two holes for the tremelo arm, so you can use it left or right handed equally well. Nice gig bag included with it.

Sound : 3
Pretty horrible really. Both pickups just produce loads of bass and little else, and there's not a lot of tonal or dynamic variation available. Would perhaps be good for metal guitar or some other technique that doesn't require these things.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Physically, the nicest guitar I've ever played. A beautiful, smooth action and a lovely neck. No headstock to get in the way, either. Only problem is that large string-bends can feel a bit funny, don't really know why. Nasty plastic covers for the pickups tend to break, and the screws rust, but otherwise fairly well finished.

Reliability/Durability : 6
Design fault on these quitars means the (entirely non-standard) jack sockets are crap - always buzzing, often breaking, difficult to fit. They point downwards as well, so it's easy to unplug the guitar by accident. Otherwise, solid as a rock.

Customer Support : 1
I've been trying, via a music shop, to get a new tuning screw for about 18 months now. And haven't succeeded yet.

Overall Rating : 5
This was my 2nd guitar - I now play a Fender Mustang, which is harder to play but actually sounds like a guitar. The Hohner has a lovely feel, but you wouldn't want the sound for many styles of music - and the jack sockets are a real problem. If you ever try one out, make sure to check this.
