Not sure of the year because it's a new overstock, purchased on eBay. It's made in China. Features are amazing for $150, I paid for the brand new guitar. UPS delivered my solid black HR 600 with grover tuners, and Floyd Rose licensed tremolo - floating and Tesla extreme pick ups. Only thing I would like to see added would be a d-tuna, but guess that's a EVH specific thing, and won't really work on a guitar with a floating trem. Hard wear is all black, making it look really sharp. No gig bag or goodies with this baby, but, for the price I paid, I felt like I stole it to begin with. The neck is 22 jumbo frets and is very fast, made for shredding. Sound is a nice bright tone for rocking. Never heard of Tesla pick ups, but looking at this guitar you know it was made for hard rock, and works well for it. It won't twang like a strat and nothing tones like a les paul, but I think you'll be pleased with the sound.

I'm a child of 80's hair metal, so my style of hard rock/metal reflects it (Van Halen to Metallica). I love my HR 600. Currently I'm using my Roland microcube (my all time favorite practice amp - I've had all makes and models) The Bright/raunchy sounds she can put out are quiet pleasing to shredder's ear. It's my first floating tremolo guitar, so I've discovered a whole new area of neat sounds to make by going up on the whammy bar. Vive Chickenfoot!

Guitar was ready to play, right out of the box! Action was low and ready to go. BE CAREFUL. Being my first floating tremolo guitar, I did not realize the bridge stays in place by the tension of the strings. The only thing I wanted to do to it when I got it, was replace the standard chinese strings for Ernie Ball Super Slinkys 2223's. Oops. Had to reset it, but it worked out ok. Quite satisfied with the set up, otherwise.

I don't gig, so I can't tell you what it will withstand. Although, I have two young sons, who have put their hands on it, when daddy wasn't looking, and it survived them, so it's pretty sturdy :) Up close you can tell that the finish (while decent for the price I paid) is not what you'll find with other guitars - ranging $500 and up.

Never had to deal with Hohner. I have a buddy that gigs and plays harmonicas and accordions. He says Hohner are good people.

I've been playing on and off for about 20 yrs. I've owned lots of other guitars, Gibson and Epi Les Pauls, Fender Strats, and before this one, my favorite guitar was an amber Peavey EVH Wolfgang EXP special. If this Hohner and my old wolfgang were the samy price I'd choose the wolfie, but considering the $500. diff between the two guitars - brand new, in the real world, I'll take my Hohner and never look back.
