Hohner L 75

I know the bloke I bought mine off had changed the tuners (though not to particularly good ones - I will change them again) but I'm not sure how much else he has done. Assuming the rest is original, its mostly what other people have mentioned. Unusual looking finish turns a few heads.

I gave this a seven because I've not really stretched it. mostly I've been playing through practise amps as a mild Indy rock/acoustic (think libertines). That said, the tone is excelent and I've had no problems with the pickups at this level.

asside from a few minor knocks, which kind of come with the age, Its very hard to fault it. The actions good, everything is well fitted, nothing's loose or rattles. The only thing I can fault is that the pickup selector is a bit wobbly.

Well, good old fashioned parcelforce managed to drop mine on its strap button, causing a reasonable amount of damage to it, but not anyway near as much as you'd expect given the wieght of the thing. built like a tank. use it on a gig without backup? I'd use it to break rocks without a backup, paddle down the nile concussing crocodiles without backup and THEN gig without backup.

No idea.

basically, If you can show me a guitar as good for anything near the price I paid for it i'll be very very surprised. I prefer it to some guitars I've tried with pricetags seven or eight times the size. Probably only going to get better (it certainally wont break...) If you can find one buy it. I figure that by the time i've sorted its minor faults It will have cost me about ??120.

Brown woodgrain Les Paul copy. 2 humbucker pickups, 3 way switch, bolt on neck.

I play classic rock and blues and this guitar suits my style very well. My sons play metal and they like it also. This guitar sounds great acoustically the sign of a good guitar. The original pickups gave a lot of feedback so I changed them with Wilkinson PAF humbuckers and now I have a great sounding guitar.

I was walking down the road one day and spotted an Epiphone guitar case laying on the curb with some other things. I asked the lady if she was throwing the case out, eventually she said that I could have it and there was also a guitar in the case. When I got it home I opened the case to find this guitar. The set up was terrible so I adjusted the truss rod and bridge then changed the strings. This guitar now plays great and sounds the same. The finish is also very pleasing but I'm changing the plastics from cream to black(just a personal preference).

This guitar must be durable it was made some 17 years ago and is a nice instrument. As for reliability I believe it has already stood the test of time.

I have been playing guitar off and on for 30 + years mostly rock and blues. I got this guitar for free so the price was right. If it were lost or stolen I think that I would probably replace it with something else.

If you love Les Pauls but can't afford one, then the L75 is the way to go. Got mine in about 1990 or so. It's completely stock. I haven't done a thing to it in 14 years and it only plays better than the day I got it. It's a dark woodgrain finish with cream pickups and pickguard.

rich, fat, bluesy. I can't say enough about this guitar's bottom end and midrange. I play through a Crate GLX212 with 16 onboard effects and an Ibanez chorus stomp box for a church band and the low end sounds are vibrating the drummer's snare wires. It's a little lacking on the high end though.

The guitar came well set up and I really haven't had to tweak it too much. The action is just a tad too high at the high end of the neck but it overall has the action, fit and finish of a Gibson Les Paul. If you didn't look at the headstock, you'd think you were holding a Gibson.

Not a problem in 14 years. Nuff Said? It has a small nick in the back of the neck, but that was my fault! A wipe with a soft rag across the body and it's performance ready. Service after service.

I began with a harmony acoustic when I was 8 years old. When I bought the L75 the guy at the music store steered me away from a LP to this guitar. I'm glad he did. I love the guitar and I can hardly think of anything bad to say about it.

It has 2 volumes and 2 tones and a 3 way switch from which you can go in Treble, Neutral and Rhythm modes. This is ordinary but pretty nice. I'm not really a "material" guitarist so i cannot use specific terme. But everyy features is pretty okay on that guitar.

The sound is wonderful! I play a lot of different styles (punk, rock, alternative, psychedelic, classical and this guitar always sounds perfect.
My friend told me that it sounds exactly similar to a gibson les paul.
But as everyone says, the problems is the original pick-ups. You need to change them cause on high distortion, high effets or high volume the guitar squeals too much. And as someone said here, this makes you wanna smash the guitar up.

It's a second-handed guitar. The guitar is still impeccable. The guy had it for 10 years and it has no scratch on it and everything is perfect. The guitar is black and brown, wonderful.

This is my second guitar and i'm sure it will last a long long time.
The only thing you have to do is to change the original pickups.

Same as the rest, nothing fancy. Basically the same as a Gibston Les Paul with 3 way switch.

The guitar sounds wonderful on low and medium level distortion, possibly the same or better than a Gibson. However, for my style of music(Metal) on high level the uncontrolled feedback is terrible. That is actually why I went to this site, to see if others had the same problem, and everyone does. Needs new pickups. For metal, the original ones will not do.

Action, Fit and Finish is amazing. My uncle has a Gibson Les Paul and in my opinion, the Hohner felt beter and had the same, if not better finish. I think that this guitar was well built. When you play on it, you dont feel aukward. It kinda fits perfectly. No flaws at all. This opinion is probably amplified by the fact that I got the guitar in mint condition.

It is built like tank. Very well built and the finish will last for decades to come. The stap buttons are very solid. The only reason why I would use a backup in a gig is if a string broke, because I tend to punish the strings quite bad. But, string aside, I would not need a backup guitar. The only thing that has happened to the guitar is that the 3 way switch has warn and does not click in to place sometimes. And the plastic plate where you put your cord into the guitar broke, but I replaced it with a nice stainless steel one.

I have been playing for 5 years and play metal / hard rock. Metallica,Black Sabbath,Iron Maden,Pantera,Guns 'n Roses, etc. I own a Boss ME30 multfx, Boss MT-2 Metal Zone, Jim Dunlop Cry Baby and a 1970 something Heath 2 x 60watt solid state amp.

I am from South Africa, male and 22 years old. I am going to change the original pickups because the feedback terribly. But on the whole, I think it is a wonderful guitar. I would recomend it.

Les Paul style

Its unamplified tone is not that bad.
I've played two L-75s in my life. The first was original, I guess. Its pikcups lacked everything. They sounded like the tone knobs where all the way down. Absolutely no trebles! It's amazing how bad it was...
The other one is highly modificated, the neck PU was replaced with a single coil (I guess something from a cheap strat copy) and the bridge was rewound I guess (I don't know these modifications were made by the previous owner). It sounds amazingly good!

It is not really comfortable. I don't like its feeling. Perhaps it is because I don't really like the Les Paul guitars as they are. I only like their tone and outlook... but I guess, noone cares about this :-)

Not a bad guitar if you replace some stuff (PUs needs to be changed). It can be even better than an Epiphone. If you can get a L-75 well under the cost of an Epiphone, why not?

The facts:
When purchased new (1st owner) the guitar had a "made in japan" sticker that I eventually removed. Paid ~350$ CDN at steeve's music store in ottawa. 22 frets. Plywood contruction for body with bolted neck, standard lespaul electronic configuration. Satin black finish with chrome hardware. Mother of plastic inlays.
The opinions:
Extra cheap tuners. OK bridge/tailpiece. Inadequate pickups. Very nice fit&finish. Extra good playability.

Original pickups were too prone to uncontrolled feedback. If you toned down, you could get a somewhat controllable feedback (the edge kind of thing) but the sound wasn't there. It did not take me too much time to change installed pickups. Went for dimarzio's wich gave a more balanced sound. Can't tell you how it originally sounded tonewise since it was a while back and i've had it set-up like this for years. Now gives an very bluesy tone with reasonable sustain and resonance. I actually prefer it to a true gibson's sound. I dunno why or how but that plywood assembly really vibes... Changed electronics 2 years ago (pots/wires). (Modified circuit now gives me crazy tones on neck p-u.)

Action was originally extra-low. Got sick of it and hightened it to ~3mm with .11 strings for a stronger tone. Bolted neck eventually got loose and had some sort of cracking sound when neck was used as vibrato element (pete townsend style) Fixed this with gluing neck to body and filling bolt holes with sawdust & glue the tightening the lot & adjusting neck rod. As mentionned tuners were a pain. Changed them to some fancy german-made tuners I paid 100$ for & changed nut -> Quite stable tuning from then on.

Dropped it a few times/hit cymbals/whacked amp cabinets. I gave this guitar quite a bit of servicing and it has been through hard times. Changed Tuners, pickups, nut, moved the bridge saddle as adjustment was maxed out, strap buttons ripped out/re-installed. (body's wood is poor quality) Switch is still good. Neck is still outstanding, finish is still near perfect. Through all of it this guitar is still one of my favorites and you feel like servicing it (that says alot!) I'm now looking for a hohner L59 (real wood!)

I've been playing since I heard Hendrix's star spangled banner at woodstock 12-13 years ago. Have a bunch of other acoustics (12str lys, citation, ...) have had my hand on a few cheap electrics, let them go kept this one. It's a steady player and you don't feel paranoid gigging with it. Borrowed a gibson les paul standard from the 70's (sung like a diamond! but way overpriced...) Looking for a wooden hohner now.
Ampwise -> Garnet rebel through celestion greenbacks, fender princeton.

Made in themid 80's i guess, 3 way switch etc.

I bought this guitar new in the 80's and only used it at home since I never played in a band.
When I did start to play in a band it turned out to be useless because of the feedback of the original pickups. I replaced them with a Dimarzio Evolution wich obviously solved the feedback problem, it sounds great now.

What I love most about this guitar is the neck, it very slim (especially compared to my Ibanez RG570!) wich suits my rather small hands fine.

Like others said its been build like a tank.
One day far far from now when we are all long gone, other species that visits earth wil find my guitar...

Besides this guitar I have the mentioned RG570, and a Yamaha R121.
I play on every amp build after the invention of electricity.

Completely original apart I replaced the pickups about two years ago coz the old ones started to squeel too much.
I use Seymour Duncan pick ups now and they howl like a bitch on heat.
It's black with mother of pearl inlays on the head body and fretboard
everything alse is just as I bought it from new 15 years ago.
It ways a ton so then it's real wood not MFI shit and for the #175 my old man bought it for back then was a really great buy and I will never part with .... god forbid the unsuspecting fool that ever picks it up trying to be clever..... they will die very soon after.

Before I changed the pickups it was just the average then with the Seymour Duncans they made a great difference with out the squeeling.
All beit now with the coming of Line 6 guitar port the sound isn't such a great deal but all the same it still gives a fantastic tone through the Marshall valvestate.
I go on and off but will allways return to my L75 and when I do I'm amazed that it never loses that great tone.

A few of the frets needed work and I had a top guy take it in for a couple of day's(this guy actually builds them for top artists believe or not)and he did the work ,the action after that was tops.
So I would have to say the factory setting weren't brilliant but still good for the price and if your serious about this guitar get it to someone who knows what their doing ..... don't do yourself if you don't know how !

I've done alot with this guitar and it has with stood so much of my shit and has allways been reliable I can't fault it.

Ok now I might sound like an old fart but I am only 28 and I've been playing for around 17 years .I started on a AXE from the Kerrang! magazine and that got me started copying Metallica riffs but it was really shit so then I got L75 ...... good choice.
I had a B.C.Rich warlock ...... that was shit.
I also have a Aria Pro magna ....it's alright but I've gone back to the L75 .The Aria is my back up just in case that bloody string goes but even then I will want the Hohner straight away.
Anyone who say's that this guitar is rubbish needs their heads checking and obviously does not appreciate it.. if you don't want I'll have it before you destoy it...
I think these guitars will be worth money in years to come allthough not many artists use that doesn't mean anything there great.

Made in 1987 (i think) les paul copy... Blah blah.

Shockingly, (considering its sound) its made of plywood (possibly mahogany & something else) with a hollow laminated top. Got it in 1995, it's been sanded down from black (and i was very surprised to find nicely bookmatched grain) and resprayed with car paint 3 or 4 times. It's now matt black, which turned heads until gibbo brought out their gothic series. Now people think i copied them, doh!

Makes people i've known with expensive guitars look a bit sick. And then go, "Ah, well i don't like Les pauls anyway..."

I reckon the pickups were nasty raspy when it was new. Now they're 16 years old, they've mellowed to fat and rich, but LOUD!

Grunts like a bar steward, can also do a passable acoustic impression with some nice EQ and reverb. Does jazzy clean, not too good at fizzy scooped. Feeds back without squealing except on <i>really</i> high gain loud fizzzy metal amps. Bluesey, White Stripes, Load-era metallica, Slash...

When i got it, the neck was loose, and wouldn't tighten, so i flooded the holes with superglue, and glued the top to the neck, and used the fabby neck-tilt bolt to tilt it back a bit. Instantly louder, and more sustainy. (I'd recommend this with any cheap bolt on. Don't say i told you to if you do it on yer vintage strat and it goes horribly wrong...!)

Pickups are a bit out of line, i've corrected this by bending the mounting plates so that they move diagonally. Neck's nice, i have the action a la Slash, highish (2mm & 1.5mm), with big (Ernie ball skinny top heavy bottom) strings. I like to have to fight it a little! Pickup switch goes clonk, but i like that!

I rewired it and put in new pots a couple of years ago. I've thought about new pickups, but i don't want to mess with the balance of it. Disconnected the tones, cos i never use 'em. Its a FAT sounding guitar...

I filed the string saddles smoother, and broke less strings. I might put a nice bridge in at some point, but the one in there is chromed brass, which i am led to believe is a Good Thing.

3 when i got it, 7 now...

Lasted me so far. The strap buttons have had big washers put on to stop it falling on the floor. I break strings a lot, cos i wack it too hard, so i'd like another as a backup. But i risk it. Might need a refret one day, but they are expensive, i'll probably be able to afford a new guitar by then...

I'd seriously hurt anyone who nicked it. Its my baby...

As everyone has said before, it's and old Les Paul style guitar with the three tone switch on it. Nothing special. Simple.

The sound is a warm, glowing one. I've retained the dual humbuckers that came with it coz i cant be bothered to change them. It sounds great clean or distorted but loud on distortion the guitar squeals. The feedback makes you wanna smash the guitar up.

Try as you may, you wont be able to smash this one up. Its built like a tank. Its well crafted and put together. I think mine is mahogony, coz its real heavy.
The neck is just magic, thats all i can say. Amazing.

It wont wear down or break, its so well built. These guitars are old, probably made in the 70's - 80's and they still perform great. they have a long lifespan before you have to put it down.

This is my second guitar, my second Hohner and its my favorite. I've been playing for 6 years and I've never come across a better guitar than this one.

mine is a 1987 model les paul copy I purchased for 275.- at a local shop.dark walnut in color it has demarizo pickups,2 tone 2 volume controls very clean condition.tune o matic bridge.The only thing I would replace is the tuners.

lots of varity playing from buffet to blues with some hendrix to boot.plays well with clean or distortion

finish is not perfect but have seen alot worse on more expensive new guitars.Low action,must have been setup somewhere along the way,only had to adjust the pickups

I did email Honer with the serial number when I first got it and did recive a reply that they were made from 87 thru 92 and cost from 215-315 bucks.short reply but at least they did

This is my first solid body electric been playing 3 years.My guitar teach says he would not hesitate to play gigs with it.My other guitar is a Takamine eg-350.If it were stolen I would beat the thief but am not set on just this guitar.Probably the only drawback that cant be changed is its abit heavy but you get used to it

I think it's older than 15 years. I bought it in very good condition this year. I know it's not a Gibson LEs Paul but it has very similar feel and I think it to be amazing as the first guitar. It's very similar to a Les Paul, 3 pots and a 3-way switch.

Humbuckers sound quite well both clean and distorted, with very low noise. Very gibson-like. I like it but it has screaming feedback at high volume what I don't like. I have to dial back my volume pot to keep the sound normal but it loses highs. I don't know others how work but it's the only problem. Probably it may worth a replacement. The body I think is mahogany because it's very, very heavy, better pickups probably will make it sound better. I would try a Seymour Duncan JB because a friend has one and it sounds cool.

The black finish is in very good conditions. It was an old man's jazz guitar before, so no cracks on it. Looks almost new. It's not true, it looks like an old guitar that had a careful owner before. You can feel the time when you look at it but no cracks or bad things on the finish if you know what I mean.

The neck is the best thing in it. I tried many guitars before I bought my first electric solidbody guitar (I had a terrible noname acoustic before, high action cannot enabled me to learn playing solos) and this one has an incredible low action. The string height at the 12th fret is less than 1mm! It's the previous owner's excellent setting, it plays by itself. I tried more expensive guitars and they had no such good feeling necks. I have small not too powerful fingers and it's perfect for me, I use 011 strings but it's all good for me. There is a very little fret buzz but it's not annoying when amplified.

I had only few concerts and all were with this. It was very reliable. Once a string broke but it is the problem of the string and me. I was stupid and I did not change it in time (for months) so it broke. Now I change strings in every month and they don't break anymore. It seems to me that the guitar has very stong construction it almost says "Trust me! I'll never abandon you" :)

I never had a thing with the company, only the old man who was the previous owner. He is a luthier of some kind and can fix anything, no need for company support. It's an old guitar, so no guarantee for anything.

I've been playing since last year. Fellows say I play cool for a beginner but I know it's bullshit. I can play chords and simple riffs well but I'm not good enough at solos. When I hear Zakk Wylde or Dimebag Darrell playing solos I want to scream or cry. I'm just very-very far from being the good player I want to be. I practice all day. Shortly speaking I'm not the best player around here. Not yet :)

You don't want to read about me for sure. So, let's see the Hohner L75. I love it. If someone steals it, I will worry. It plays wonderful, the look is pretty and the sound is okay. I play better day by day and I think the L75 is the key. It somehow motives me to play more and more. It's so sexy. :) Probably not my guitar is the best in the whole world. it's just perfect for me. I should find a good amplifier for it. I don't know which one should I buy but I'm sure it will be an old cheap tube amp, maybe a battered Marshall or Laney. I don't like scratchy modern sounds or emulated tube sounds. There's one thing that sounds like a tube amp: a tube amp :)

I haven't played all guitars but this guitar rules, it has higher level than my knowledge, it's a very good instrument. I think it will take years to reach the level when I will need a better instrument. It won't be so cheap I think. Maybe a Gibson SG or a Les Paul. Things may change but I don't think I will sell the L75. It is my first guitar.

I think it's from late 80's or early 90's. I purchased it in 1992 for 100 (or so) bucks and I can say it was a bargain for a brand new guitar. A nice all black LP copy, weight at least a ton, with HxH pups that were replaced (they were o.k. I just replaced them with better ones) with two DiMarzio Brian May single coil models in the bridge (okey-okey they are matched single-coils and were intended to use in Strats but what the hell) and recently a Seymour Jazz in the bridge, plus a Schaller piezo Tun-O-Matic bridge that is going to be installed soon. The hardware is not top notch but seemed to be reliable during the decade I used the axe but I'm going to change tuners, 10 years made them worn bad.

The sound is rather bright than heavy but many different sounds can be set with the different pup combinations. The Brian Mays can be switched many ways so the guitar can produce many things from Tele-like twangs to dirty thick sound - verstaile enough. The addition of piezo bridge gives an another option. It lacks life-long sustain because of its neck being bolted but it sustains quite well. Original Gibbo LPs do it better, of course - but it's not a Gibbo. It has a different individuality. The Brian Mays sound best when clean or smoothly overdriven. Anyway it doesn't have Brian's sound but it sounds very nice, with an almost-not-there low noise when the p-ups are switched single coil - but it's normal with single coils, there's no problem with that. Swithcing parallel the two coils it really rocks without any noise. I modified the axe recently since I needed a guitar that sounds good clean as well. So I took my old L75 and upgraded into clean sounds. Probably, it is not the best sounding acoustic instrument in the world, but it does the task. My custom built guitars loaded with Invaders do the dirty job.

The best thing with this axe is the incredible neck. It almost plays by itself. Weird to think it over but during the decade passed I used different strings from 008 to 013, played hundreds of gigs but I didn't have to adjust the neck, it's straight and rock solid from the beginning. Ultra low action - I just love it. The fit is also okey and the overall playing feel is very Gibson-like. It's my opinion but only L75 and Tokai copies have the same 'Hmm that's almost that' Gibbo-feel when played. None of others I played got that. The finish is okey it survived everything. Apart from some minor cracks of heavy use it's perfect even now.
Manufacturers did not pay attention on small details (eg: precise painting of binding/body connection, precisely installed trapeziod inlays, 'extra additional accidental cut' in the pickup hole etc.) but on these details I just don't give a ShT. The axe sounds good, intonates perfect, feels good and very big pleasure to play. Sometimes not the best looking girls from the best families are the best to FxK with...

Man, I played hundreds of gigs with this instrument. Once I smashed the jack plug when I accidentally falled on stage, once a wire broke inside somehow and I resoldered it in 1 minute, once the strap lock broke itself and the guitar fell into the ground (1 bigger minor crack), sometimes it got out of tune when I hit the strings hard, and some string breaks - that's all. I think it's one of the most durable guitars I ever had. But I wouldn't use it without a backup. I wouldn't use anything without backup.

As I know the part of the company that built this one doesn't exist anymore...

It was my first guitar and my first love that inspired me to play more and more. There are better instruments I have now, a Warmoth LPS and an also custom-made EVH but I won't get rid of the L75. Anyway, it is still the best action guitar I ever had. The price is a joke - too low for such a guitar, really...
Now I rather play the brutally hard stuff but at the time when I bought the axe I played rock like Queen, AC DC or Pink Floyd. I just wanted to have an All-Versatile-Rock-Axe - and the guitar is just that. If I want to play a Queen or AC DC song I just plug it in and - go!
If it were stolen of course I would break the hands of the thief. I tried a lot of guitars and some of the Hohner axes were incredibly bad (Rockwood series) but not all are bad. Many fellow musicians use Hohner Professional series for backup or main instrument - used Professionals are pretty good with super low costs. For backup, I would buy an another. Sure, the sound wouldn't beat my magnificent high-quality Warmoth's.

I believe this guitar was made in the late 70's, unsure where, suspect it was Japan. Dual Humbuckers which I did not replace, I kind of liked them.2 tone, two volume knobs. I played through an Ampeg R212 tube amp, and I have to say it sounded pretty great. Tuners were pretty lame, actually pretty loose, but remarkably the darned thing stayed in tune pretty well. Fully bound, but by what I don't know, could have been painted for all I know. Bolt on neck, very nice dark transparent finish. Heavy and solid as a rock.

I'm a late starter in the playing department, but I have a veteran ear, this thing sounded great. Very warm even tone, but it could flat out scream as well. I put this in the hands of a couple of expert guitar players, and they were frankly amazed at the sounds they were able to get out of this.

Cosmetically very nice, I mean it's not a new guitar to be sure but has held up well.Loose tuning pegs were my only gripe, and that is a simple fix.

Hard to say, I'm a basement hacker and that's about that. I would say it inspires confidence to wield this thing. It feels very solid and heavy.

I have had a number of guitars in my short and non-illustious career. This was one of the better ones. I currently have a Godin Radiator, and a no name achtop jazz guitar through aN Ampeg Reverbrocket R212. I guess if it was stolen or lost I would not replace it as I just sold it. To be honest I think I sold the wrong guitar.

I'd guess made in 80s, appears to be made of dense plywood and covered with a plastic black finish. Std Les-Paul type setup, with awful tuners (replaced with Grovers) and pickups (replaced with DiMarzios). Decent, bolt-on neck. Medium frets (a bit deeper than is usual on Gibsons).

With the DiMarzios, it sounds dandy and played blind fools most LP players. Electronics and neck are good, so it is fine to play.Fairly bright sound for humbuckers, but it is nice.

Plays like a dream. Amazing. Nicer than most guitars ten times the price I paid. Binding is nice but top awful.

I wuld use this under Niagara Falls without a backup, built like a tank.

Playing 30 years. I wouldn't replace this if stolen, but it is a nice guitar once the crappy pickups are swapped out and decent tuners put in. The finish is poor, but the playability is superlative. Sounds particularly good through my Fender Deluxe Reverb II, but is one of the few guitars that sounds fine through any amp. These comments relate to the guirat after the Di Marzios were fitted.

A USAF friend and I each bought an L-75 in Germany in '89, from a dealer called Musik Blang in the town of Bitburg. My bud's was all black, and mine has a really lovely clear-coated dark mahogany finish. Nice looking guitars, though it's obvious the inlays are made of the more inexpensive kind of fake mother of pearl. We were looking for starter guitars, though mine's now more of a back-up or one to keep handy with an alternate tuning; but with nearly all the features and most of the looks of a garden variety Les Paul, feature-wise it's a good instrument.

I play a lot of blues-based stuff as well as some classical violin pieces (not Paganini yet), Irish fiddle tunes, etc. The stock pickups in mine--bare humbuckers unlike the covered pseudo-Gibson-PAF humbuckers in the one my friend bought--sound nice and are conspicuously LOUD compared to the PAFs in the SG and actual Les Paul I also own. The tone of this guitar is fine for just about anything I play, even if I might have a preference for another guitar's sound in this particular case or that. I do notice a greater tendency toward feedback than on my other guitars, but this could be due to how I have it set up.

There were no real flaws in the instrument when I bought it. The action was set fairly low on the slim little neck, and that neck, compared to my Les Paul's full-size one, is nice and small for my medium-sized hands. It's not unlike the Gibson-trademark "Slim-Taper" neck of my SG, which makes my Les Paul's neck feel like the big end of a baseball bat. The knobs are nice (rectangular cross-section), the pickups are nice, the binding is well done, and even though the inlays are a little cheap looking side-by-side with a real Gibson, people tell me the particular L-75 I own is one of the overall nicer-looking and -playing Les Paul clones they've encountered. The tuning machines leave something to be desired, though; they look, feel, and act cheap, and finally I'm going to replace them with Grovers after all these years.

This instrument withstood being half-dropped on its head from about knee-level while my roommate held it by its strap and the strap came off the neck button. (This happened right there in the Musik Blang store, which I thought appropriate from the sound it made.) Small crack in the finish at the neck joint, but otherwise it was fine, so I didn't kill my roommate. One of the cheap tuning machine buttons broke off when this poor abused instrument got knocked over, and I just melted a spare one on; but again, if anything is unreliable from the factory, it's the tuners. Otherwise, with the possible exception of the pickup surround which I have no idea how I broke, it's as stout as any other guitar of its size and proportions--stronger than an SG, but not tough as a railroad tie like a Les Paul.

The Hohner website won't even acknowledge this instrument ever existed. Beyond that, I haven't investigated customer support for it, 'cause I've never had that kind of problem with it.

I really started learning guitar in '89, and I bought my L-75 within a year of doing so. It was my main guitar until I got my Les Paul two or three years later, and after that it's been a secondary instrument for alternate tunings or loaning to friends. Now that I'm a rhythm guitarist with a Les Paul and SG for main instruments, I'll keep it for a backup; but I'd never want to get rid of it becuase of its beauty, the fact it's in many ways halfway between a Les Paul and an SG, and the fact it does have its own distinct, ballsy, pleasing tone. Overall, it is not a PRS, Custom-Shop Gibson, or handcrafted one-of-a-kind; but for the low-mid end guitar it is, it's a great instrument except for cheapo tuners.

Les Pauls Copy, strange wood for the top but it looks very nice, a bolt on neck. The woodworks and the neck look very proffesional, but all hardware on the guitar was crap

The sound of the stock pickups was awfull (noisy and harsh), I bought the guitar because I had 2 spare Seymour Duncan pickups (59er and George Lynch) and was looking for a cheap guitar to put em in. After replacing the pickups the sound is great (for a 100$ guitar)

The tuners and the bridge crap. I have never seen such a hunk of junk on a guitar before. This is strange because the finish of the body (nice bindings) and the neck are not bad. I replaced the tuners and the bridge with Gotoh parts. I never thought the the bridge would have so much influence on the sound of the guitar. But with the new bridge and the Duncan pickups the guitar sounds great.
It also plays very well. So I give it an 8 for neck and finish and a 1 for the hardware.

I replaced almost everything on the guitar. But after spending 50$ for hardware and another 40$ for the pickups (great deal on Ebay) the action and sound of the guitar is really o.k.
It is a shame to put such a crappy hardware on such a nice guitar.
I give it a 3 before modification and an 8 afterwards.

Its got a 3 way selector, its a perfect les paul copy, and it weights a ton !

I'm using this with a fender eightyfive amp, the sound is just fat, i think its a bit low on high tones, i've to fiddle with the amp, to get a nice sound.

It plays like a dream, it plays better then most les Paul i tried in the shop. It has a small neck, so if you have big hands leave this gitaar where it is.
The humbuckers are just plain ugly plastic monsters, should replace it maybe to get a better sound, i wouldn't be suprised if it turned out to be a really great guitar if i did.
It feels all very solid

The strap buttons are shit, the finish is great, i don't play it on stage because for some reason it keeps getiing out of tune, but that can be my playing style.

i've been playing for 15 years, this is only the second guitar i have, its looks great it plays like a dream, but the sound is crappy, because of the humbuckers.

This is a 1970's Japanese Lawsuit model Les Paul copy. Very accurate in some areas. And in others, most definately not. I'm not going to tell you much about the work I've done on the guitar, maybe I will later. But this is my sister's guitar. I gave it to her about a year ago. And she's got it back to me for some work. Mainly the pickups. It had one of the most terrible looking humbuckers I've ever seen in the neck. I replaced that with a EMG select. The original stock pickup is still in the bridge, because it's OK, just really noisy. It has the typical Les Paul control layout. Nothing special. 22 frets. Parallelogram inlays. A bolt-on neck, which I still don't think is original. But It plays well. This is, like with some of the Ibanez models, one of the hollowed-out bodies. They're very light and feel a whole lot better than a Gibson weight-wise. It makes the completely solid Ibanez I have feel like it weighs a ton. As I said, I've done alot of work with it. Adding a Pickguard, replacing the neck pickup, complete rewiring, and changing the strap buttons for more friendlier ones.

Well, my sister plays alot of heavier rock and such. She's got a Squier 15 amp, which I gave her. And I know it works well for her musically. Even with the Bridge pickup being very noisy. The sounds, with the EMG in the neck, to me are great. But I'm sure she'll go for the sounds from the bridge, just because they're so noisy and just plain ugly. The variety of sounds have improved since my rewiring, but I'm not factoring in my work.

The body is in good shape, except for the neck joint (next project, level the part of the body where the neck connects.) The guitar has alot of problems, but the body itself can hold up. It already seems to me like Pete Townshend had his way with the guitar before I got it. After the work is done on it. It'll be alot nicer.

If the guitar withstands all the work I've been doing to it it'll deserve a 10. It was crap when I got it. the finish might be what's holding this thing together. I'm sure my sister will upgrade to a better instrument before she ever does a gig. If I'm rich and famous before then, I'll buy her a Rickenbacker 325, or possibly an old Fender Mustang. I'm leaving the rating blank because It was scrap when I got it.

This was my second guitar when I got it. It's my sister's first. She's been playing for about a year. I've been playing for about 5 or 6 years. This is going to be a really cool instrument when I'm done my work. But right now it's a body, with some pickups and the wiring isn't complete.
