Late 80's Les Paul-style guitar, dark brown with full, cream bindings. Bolt-on neck, wood unknown but possibly mahogony, rosewood fret board, 22 frets, LP style pearlescent fret markers, plastic nut. Cream truss-rod cover with 'LX250G' on it. Chrome closed-unit tuners. Dark oak, flamed laminate, arch-top - nice grain but no idea what wood. Cream binding on body, neck & headstock. Body is a hardwood ply, weight and grain suggests possibly mahogony. Two stock PAF humbuckers in cream with cream surrounds. Cream pick guard. Standard LP controls: 3-way switch, 2 x volume and tone. Knobs are good Gibson clones! Chrome tune-o-matic type bridge and tail.

Really nice high gloss finish - this guitar looks the business! While researching it I found it is very similar to the Hohner L75LP Professional (see reviews on that). It's the same mahogony-ply body and top, neck and head, but probably cheaper fittings.

Sound : 8
First thing I noticed was the accoustic tonal quality. This thing hums and buzzes with sound even unplugged. Pick-ups are only stock but give a good fat, angry rock sound, and the solid body gives excellent sustain. The high notes on the treble strings are particularly satisfying, clear as a bell and ring for ages. Unlike many cheap guitars the three PU positions all provide distinct and useable tones. The quality of the body and neck makes it worthwhile upgrading the pickups. I play rock and blues. I use an MG30, a Zoom GFX-707, and a Danelectro T-Bone.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
For an inexpensive guitar this is really nicely made. It took me a while to get used to the chunkier LP style neck. But now I find it as quick as my Strats. Frets are all even and polished, and nicely fitted in the fret board. Easy to set up the action to suit using the adjustable bridge. All the notes ring true and clear along full length of the fret board.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It's as solid as rock. It's had a hard life judging by the dings, and it was covered in dirt and grime when I got it. The damage is only cosmetic; no problem with laminate or bindings falling apart. I had to resolder the connections on one tone control. But cleaned-up it looks the business. Electrics were fine, no scratchiness on the controls. Plug socket is solid. Provided your strings are okay its totally dependable.

The bridge and tail cleaned up with no marks or blemishes. The tone/volume controls look great - 50s style. The machine heads are the only fittings that look old, and feel worn.

I play accoustic, but only took up an electric 12 months ago. I have to do it on a budget so I buy second-hand and look for forgotten gems like this Hohner. I started with an Affinity Strat (??40 on Ebay), which felt great at first - but it's amateur compared with the Hohner (and I got it for the same money). I've also got a Squire Showmaster HSS - a very sharp guitar, which plays as well as the Hohner but doesn't sound anywhere near as good, (plus the neck & middle PUs don't give a useable sound).

I love this guitar; it's got style, character and great tone. A used axe as good as this will cost you ??100 plus, and double that new. There will come a time when I want a better sound, but I'll just upgrade the PUs. If it were stolen I'd buy another one - ??40 on Ebay? It's worth three times that!

Mine seems to be a dark, rosewood finish (I think) with a cream border giving it that vintage Gibson Les Paul look.

I did get a free hard case with mine and at the time thought for the price, the guitar looked pretty good. Now I know its one of the best bargains Ive ever had! I paid ?50 and I let my friend play it (hes pretty experienced when it comes to instruments) and asked him to guess the price - he guessed at ?125!

Sound : 8
For a budget clone this really does make a nice clear and bright sound. I am a mainly a punk/rock guitarist and use effects such as distortion/overdrive, chorus and the occasional flange and this guitar will let me pull them all off with ease!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
I dont know about factory settings as I bought this pre-owned however Ive found it pretty easy just to pick up a screwdriver and adjust away until you get that perfect sound.

I've also noticed theres a loose tuning peg which does buzz a little when playing however this isnt heard over the amp and doesnt seem to de-tune the string so not really a problem? Everything else seems to be in order and working fine!

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar looked like it had been a bit beaten when I bought it but with a good clean up it looks as good as new! Even through the abuse of the previous owner it still stands tall and I think it will for many years to come.

I personally never gig without a backup guitar however I have played a few gigs with it now never any problems. Seem very dependable!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never actually had to talk to them and probably will never as this guitar is pretty old and I only bought it pre-owned about a month ago. Sure theyre nice guys though!

Overall Rating : 8
I have been playing guitar now for around 3 years and have to say this is one of the best guitars I have owned yet. I generally go for the cheaper models as Im on a budget but this guitar even sounds as good, if not better than, my Epiphone Les Paul!

If it were stolen I would look for another but doubt Id be able to find one or a clone as good as this one, however if I did find one within my price range in decent nick Id have it!

Another thing I love, which is why I love Les Pauls, is the 3 way selector between rhythm, standard and treble that I use as an on/off switch when playing.

I bidded this from a ebay like place and payed twice the price it was worth of as I failed to check it troughly before paying so I had to put a lot of money on its restauration. Not the fault of the guitar but the previous owner...

Sound : 10
After the initial shock I decided to replace potentiometers, strings, switch and so with the intention to get rid of it, but after tuning and intonation I fell in love with the warm sound and sustain. I decided to get rid of onother new-more-expensive-shinny guitar I had just bought and to deviate all my effort in getting this beautiful Les Paul totally restaured. Got to dissasamble it and realign the neck and bridge but that was all.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
No idea about the factory setup, the previous owned mistreated heavily this guitar, I even thought it was broken, but if survived even heavily scratched and damaged. I struggle a little with proper G string tuning and intonation, but I have seen that in other guitars. Finish was in a terrible state, still working on it. I replaced the bridge and saddle just because I wanted.

Reliability/Durability : 9
After figuring out that the previous owner may have used it as a weapon or to kill rats with it I think this guitar may endure anything.

This guitar is Korean made but not sure of the year. 22 frets with mock mother of pearl inlays. I believe the body is Rosewood and the neck is Alder, but I am unsure. It is finished with a black high gloss.

Sound : 10
I play rock and own a Behringer V-amp 2 and soon a Marshall MG15CD, with a Pirhana Monoflex cable. The sound of the guitar through a normal amp though is excellent for a budget copy, the Vamp2 tends to sustain the distortion for longer periods.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
When I bought it 13 years ago, I have only ever made minor adjustments to the height of the strings, and I do also agree with other reviewers on here that the tuning is not terribly good due to a loose peg, but like I said Ive had it a long time so Im used to that, and it is chep enough to fix. The neck joint at the body is slightly raised with regard to standard Les Pauls, which have the neat joint finish.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I do believe this guitar will stand up to playing live, it will stand up to anything you throw at it, even to being knocked of its stand and crashing to the floor. I must also though again aggree with 1 or 2 others on here and say the input jack is crap, so as I type this Ive got a replacement jack on my desk which I'll solder on later :)

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them.

Overall Rating : 10
Ive been playing for 13 years, I still suck lol, but Ive only ever played an Epiphone Les Paul, and I favour this guitar to that. When I bought this guitar I was desperate for a Les Paul, and luckily this was the first Les Paul guitar I saw, and i have not regretted a moment of it :) If it was stolen Id be gutted beyond belief, I had it on my last 2 years of school life and its been on holidays with me so to me its priceless. :))

Where and When this les paul copy came about i don't know, there seems to be a mixed opinion when it comes to that, i did however buy this about 8 to 9 years ago ' about '96 #200'

2 vol, 2 tone, 3-way switch, 2 humbucker pickups, Jet black finish with a great weight to it...

Sound : 9
The sound for me is amazing, a very blues, chunky rock tone, especially when switched to rhythm. I play through a Trace Elliot Super Tramp that is at least 16 years old and picked that up in '96 for #150... There is a small amount of hum from tha amp, very little and serves like a knight for feedback, and deffinitly no hum from the Hohner.

I love the sustain this plush guitar has... I am at the moment, getting pickups fitted, 2 gibson of course, and the 3-way switch changed, it is very noisy when fliping through when playing, but inexpensive to renew it... I can't wait to crank this guitar up with new pickups... All in all, for the price i have to give this 9...

This will be a deffinite 11 with new pickups

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
There are not any flaws really, it's a plush guitar, black finish looks great with a cream/yellow trim which i love, i have seen a lot of les paul copies and they have a cream/yellow trim around the pickups that i find looks cheap. The Lx doesn't have that.

It has a pick guard, black with cream trim that i don't leave on, i think it looks like more wthout it...

This guitar stands out from others, especially when people see the ROCKWOOD and Hohner on the head, Most can't believe the sound that comes from it and the action is second to none and adjustable. Thats another thing i'm getting looked at while the pickups and 3-way switch are going on, Fine tune the intonation and setting the bridge as perfect as possible. Not that i have much to complain about... Time will tell when it returns to me...

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is a war horse to say the very least. I have it about 9 years and it is practically new. The front body has not got a scratch, NOT A SCRATCH, it amazes me... There is a small nick on the head, virtually unnoticable, and the back of the body has some wear and tear from belt buckles and shit nicking against it, but i love that, it gives character, other than that it's new, and believe me this has been in some shit holes, i'll say it again, 'it amazes me' It looks great!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't needed any.

Overall Rating : 10
I love this guitar, i neglected it for a long time, because you are probably wondering that if i'm saying how great this guitar is why haven't i made alterations years ago? Well i bought a strat nearly 3 years ago and as much as i hate to say it, the hohner practically stayed in a case since then. Untill about 4 months ago when i dusted it of and started playing it again, i really can't believe how fucking good it sounds and how good it looks. So, i made the decision to give it make over, it desrves it!

I own this guitar I am not sure which year it was made in but it has a stamp that says it was made in korea. It has 22 frets with pearl trapazoid inlays. it has 2 volume and two tone controls with a three way switch. There are 2 pickups. It is black with creme trim and a creme pic gaurd. The body style is a les paul. This guitar is very good for a knockoff of a gibson les paul standard. I did however have to fix the input but most likely because i bought this guitar used. I like it very much because it sounds and looks good.!

Sound : 8
This guitar suits my style very well, punk rock and alternative rock. I use a crate mx-10 amp. It can be clean or distorted depending on what you do to the amp. The amp itself is noisy not the guitar. I would say it has a rich sound when the switch is put to rythym and a bright sound when the swithc is put to treble. The guitar can make whatever sounds you can make it make. I like that it looks cool and sounds good. not so pleased with the input.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
i did not get this guitar from the factory. one of the pickup covers was carcked so i bout a new one. the guitar is in overall good condition with a few minor scratches and dents.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar will withstand live playing. The hardare will last. The finish is excellent. The strap buttons just couldnt hold up this guiatr because it was two heavy so i bought strap locks. I can depend on this guitar. I will always have a back up at gigs incase i break a string but other than that this is dependable.

Customer Support : 9
i bought this guitar used.

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing for about a year. I dont really wish i asked anything before buying this guitar. I probably wouldnt buy this guiatr if it was stolen or lost because i would want a real epiphone or gibson now that i have started playing. I love the looks i just wish it had the creme colored switch and gold knobs. i compared this guitar to the epiphone les paul junior, i liked this one because it seemed higher quality and had better looks. I love this guitar

I think this guitar was made in 1988 not to sure though. Altough it is quite old and was brought second hand this one is in mint condition. no scratches dents or marks and it still sound absolutely outstanding. The fretboard has twenty two frets and still shines nicely, rosewood i think and is fast and smooth to use. it has two tone and two volume pots and a three way selector ( ryhthm, stantard and treble) all which compliment the guitar well in terms of style. it has double humbucker pickups which are great and work well.

Sound : 10
This guitar is well suited to me as it makes the exact sound i want. there is no background fuzz or any other noise and sounds exellent ong my peavy rage 158 practice amp. turn the distortion to about a quarter volume to about 6 ( out of 10 ) and just play anything and it sounds great. my style is more rock than blues ( queens of the stone age stuff is what i play the most). It has a nice sound throughout the fret board and can maintain higher chords for absolutley ages without a pedal or anything else. my only dislike is my high E tunining peg is a bit loose so more effort is put into tuning the maintenance.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
My guitar was second hand so as far as factory settings are concerned i dont have a clue but i had to lower the height of the strings because it was hard to make even a standard clean open chord.
The guitars finish is exellent which on the body is maplewood and it still looks fantastic and the cream plastic pickboard is a biy faded but thats no problem. Apart from the loose tuning peg this guitar is great.

Reliability/Durability : 7
I am not sure if it will alright on stage but if i went up i dont think a spare would be needed but the plastics could do with a polish as they are fading a little. my strap is shit and slip off my buttons but nothing a new strap wouldnt solve. I would say i could depend on this guitar but because i havent played live with this one yet its not a definate.

Customer Support : No Opinion
havent needed to and it was secondhand anyway.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing about seven years and have had this guitar for about 11 months and this one is my favourit so far. I own no other guitars at the moment and just a peavy rage 158 practice amp because of an unfortunate accident at home which led to a fire which killed all of my equipment. I definatley would by another but have never seeb any so that may be difficult if this one dies. my favourite things about this guitar are its so lite and you can really throw it around while playing ( well if i had a decent strap i could ) i like its looks it just lookes nice exactly my stlye of guitar and for a copy of a great guitar it in itself is a great guitar.

This is a classic 80's Paul clone, made overseas for HOHNER, to compete with the glut of others' that swamped the market when the Epiphone Les Paul became so popular due to the prohibitive price of a Gibson. This bone features stock HUMs, with normal three-way switch and dual tone-volume control knobs. The detailing is exquisite, and one must appreciate this guitar for the bold HOHNER on the headstock. Great care is taken in fret installation, inlay tightness, and durability of the body and neck decorative binding. The neck makers are not trapezoidal, but rectangular, and are not mother-of-pearl, although the appearance is very striking and impressive. Bolt-on neck. Has good resonant bass reponse and clear highs. The bridge humbucker does not have that tinny sound typical of lower end Les Paul copies. The instrument has an appreciable weight, and the neck and tuners are very steady. For it's age, the fret wear and number of careless dings are at a minimum. I would place this instrument at a 7 out of 10, as is. It does, however, require some work, as I obtained the HOHNER at a distressed price. Judging from the case level of wear, the instrument was not carted around alot, but in most liklihood suffers neglect and lack of maintenance and proper care by a not-to-careful previous owner. I shall see to it that this bone is returned to near original tone, luster, handling and appearance. The fully restored value of this guitar is close to $400. It is OOP, out-of-print. My guess is 1988 vintage, certainly no earlier.

Sound : 8
Since I don't have twelve thousand, five hundred and seventy-nine dollars for a "GIB", son, I make do with other brands, and put my saved money into amps. Of which, I now own seventy-two, forty of which have matching extension cabinets.
This horn sounds best with my little 6125 TubeWorks, which was a $40 investment. On stage I blast three Peaveys: DEUCE, CLASSIC, DEUCE II, in synchrony. At 600 watts, it roars. I use all heavy ten inch flapper extension cabinets: the bass throbs and rattles, the middle is chewy and raspy, the high board is brittle crystal glass.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Cross filed all frets, polished with steel wool, aligator juice for the rosewood fretboard. The scale-thru clearance of the strings is the thickness of a postage stamp.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This old horn has held up over the years remarkably.
The detailing of the the inlay, binding, and surface finish is outstanding. My back-ups have back-ups, so YES, I would bring another instrument. It's always the broken string that will shut you down before anything else.

Customer Support : 8
I believe this is an outstanding company.

Overall Rating : 9
The HOHNER is a quality Les Paul copy. I will be upgrading the pickups. I don't believe this model is made any longer, so it is a collector's item.
The instrument shows a good deal of attention to detail, and quality craftsmanship as well. I will not tolerate it's loss, should it occur, I will be forced to replace it with only an Epiphone. Hey, man, I drive a $500 car, not a $500 Guitar!

95, made in Korea, 22 frets, 2 vol, 2 tone, 3-way switch, H/H pickup config, passive pickups, les paul copy, tune-o-matic bridge, standard tuners, 24.75" scale neck.

Sound : 8
This guitar sounds great for blues, classic rock, pop, folk, and metal. I play this thru a Crate GFX 1200 head and cab. It is low noise. The lows are rich and thick, the highs are bright, and the mids are mellow. It can make basically any kind of sound I want with it straight thru the amp.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Guitar was set up nicely with low action. Pickups were set right. The bridge was routed properly. No flaws that I can see except a few pick mark scratches that came from the previous owner.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar will and has withstood some harsh playing. I gigged with this axe about a dozen times with no problems. I can depend on it for gigs but it is always a good idea to bring a backup to gigs in case the string snaps.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I bought it used so I don't know about Hohner's customer service.

Overall Rating : 8
I've been playing for 20 years. I own a Fender Strat (mexico), an Ibanez RG270, Epiphone Demon V, Crate GFX 1200 head and cab, Marshall practice amp, several pedals, and accessories. If this guitar were lost or stolen I'd be really pissed because I don't think I could find another one like it. This guitar feels and plays better than the Epiphone copies of the LP that I've tried. The neck is real smooth and fast and it just sounds and feels great. I just wish I had a Floyd Rose on it but for this price I'm not complaining.

As far as I can tell its all bog standard stuff. Made in Korea, as for the year I don't have a clue. It looks shit hot and plays pretty good too!

Sound : 10
Brilliant! I love the sound. After I got it re strung, I cranked up the distortion and it loves it. Then swithing to a clean sound with a bit of reverb and the guitar switched to rhythm and I was well away ripping through G N'Rs version of Knocking on Heavens Door. Im only running it through a 40 watt 2 Channel Peavey Amp, but it sounds better than any guitar Ive put through it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The strings were set a little high but I adjusted them and it was OK. The only fault I found was a loose tuning peg which Im gonna fix when I can get round to it. The controls are tight, like they never been used. The input socket is tad loose, but Im used to that.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Don't know if it will withstand live playing, but I'll find out soon enough. Seems very reliable and durable not only for the price I paid for it, but as any guitar Ive owned.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Hohner don't even make the guitar anymore as far as Im aware. But I got a 3 moth warranty from the shop.

Overall Rating : 10
Ive had only 2 weeks so it might get worse yet. It is just a gorgeous guitar, nd it sounds and plays brilliant. I can't grumbleb it was nice and cheap and I hope it lasts a few more years yet!
