Huss and Dalton CM with Adirondack Spruce top and quilted mahogany back/sides. Waverly tuners, beautiful flame maple binding, and ebony neck. The attention to detail, finish work, and SOUND is unparalleled. The slightly smaller upper bout coupled with the larger lower bout on this guitar makes this a superb choice for BOTH fingerstyle and strumming...approaches a dreadnaught without the boominess of the bass. Very comfortable guitar and the SOUND is simply stunning. The mahogany produces bell-like articulate note separation. I installed a K&K Pure Western pickup and sounds great.

Unreal. There is a reason luthier/builders like Huss and Dalton earn a reputation for quality...they build only 400 or so guitars year. The clarity of notes, sustain, and overall sound across the entire spectrum is as close to nirvana in a guitar I have ever owned.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Flawless...almost. I purchased it new with a need for basic setup and even though the bone nut was compensated I had a new one installed and the bridge pins routed. Perfect now.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Quality materials, lifetime warranty, and outstanding components and build quality. I expect to keep this guitar forever and hand down to my daughter.

Customer Support : 10
Folks at Huss and Dalton were friendly and very helpful. I expect no problems with warranty or repair.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 25 years. I own 16 guitars (9 acoustics and 7 electrics) of varying kind and quality. This guitar along my Bourgeois DB Signature Dreadnaught is the finest guitar I own and have ever owned. If anyone stole or something happened to it I would become a member of the state bar where they lived, become a lawyer there, and sue them for everything they own...taking their house and getting my guitar back. It's that good, it's that fine, and I chose it because a friend had a Huss and Dalton...once I heard it I couldn't stop listening to it and playing it...had to have one.
Given the sound and build quality these guitars a good value even though they are expensive for the average player.

2000, 14 frets to body, radiused solid Engelmann spruce top, solid EIRW back and sides, one-piece mahogany neck, flame maple body and fingerboard binding, black/white/black purfling, ebony peghead veneer, abalone rosette, gold Schaller tuners w/ ebony buttons, clear pickguard, 1-3/4" nut width, bone nut and saddle, venetian cutaway

Very balanced across the spectrum. Suprising volume due to body depth. Nice sustain. Adapts well to fingerpicking and strumming.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I purchased this guitar used and cannot comment on the factory set-up. Action is superb all along the neck. Bookmatched top and back woods. Fingerboard and body are beautifully bound in maple. Guitar is incredibly light, making for a very comfortable instrument to play standing or sitting. I'm not a huge fan of gloss finished necks - I generally prefer satin. However, the finishing process that H&D uses is amazing - after hours of playing, the neck moves like a satin neck.

The guitar has taken a couple of dings and at least one dry season, courtesy of its previous owner and has held up. It had a slight bridge lift when I purchased it and Mark Dalton did the repair himself. Due to the amount invested and the expense in replacing/repairing it, I doubt I will ever play this guitar outside of the house. I trust the guitar to hold up, but guitars seldom break themselves.

I've talked to the folks at H&D several times and have visited the factory on a few occasions. Down to a person, they are extremely friendly and willing to impart any knowledge they can about their guitar making philosphy - including two factory tours (I had to bring a friend back for the second one). Mark Dalton did my bridge replacement and also installed my strap button. You can't beat service like that, especially for a customer that purchased their instrument as used. Great company, great people, outstanding product.

I've been playing seriously for a couple years now. I've owned guitars from Taylor, Martin, Gibson, Lakewood. This is hands down one of the finest guitar makers out there. I will be proud in 40 years to pass this fine, hand-crafted instrument down to my children. If it were lost/stolen/damaged, I would do everything in my power to recover/restore/replace it. Born in Virginia, just like me - can't beat that!
