Korean RG270DX

Got it about 3 1/2 years ago and it was my FIRST one. Keep note of that.

24 frets, volume, tone, 5-way, HSH, Ibanez Powersound pickups, passive electronics, Basswood body, Wizard II neck, single locking floyd-style bridge, 25.5".

Modded:
2 Dimarzio Multibuckers (N-M) (2 single sized h/b, the FastTrack 1 and the Chopper, in the size of a full h/b)
Ibanez Lo-Pro Edge bridge with newest studs
Push/Pull pots
Added a second tone pot for ala strat control
Added a second 5-way to deal with the Multibuckers' internal function

A workable beginner's guitar in it's original form

From now on I'll try to rate the stock version of it.

Sound : 7
Here you have to undestand I was totally clueless back then.

When I my playing advanced to solos I realized I didn't like the sound. It felt too empty. First I attributed this to the pickups so I replaced them. In time I figured out it was the Ibanez practice amp's fault but now I'm really not likelly to put back the stock pickups and see how it really sounds. I wish I had a second guitar to test them there.

I believe they are nothing like the top end pickups but would probably handle most 'heavy' situations if the amp used could pull a decent tone. Amps matter a lot in terms of final tone.
Powersound pickups have more of a harsh sound so be carefull if your out for sth warm.

Anyway you can put in any pickup you want (done with more expensive guitars too) and the result can be amazing. I know I can pull decent stuff out of my setup now.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Having been totally clueless I can't judge how it came stock. Besides it was on display so it's condition might not have been the original.

Now that I've learnt how to set it up, I can say it doesn't let me down. The action can be set well and the thin flat neck is great especially for small fingers like mine.

The plain black finish and black hardware are nothing great compared to what I've seen since but I liked it a lot when it was still new and shiny.
The shark tooth inlays in the fretboard is something I really dig about the DX neck.

The non-DX models are no big deal at all.

The pots went bad soon, and I put in Dimarzio DPDT ones, as well as japanese ibanez pots which seems to last too.
The box-type 5-way was noisy and got easily off place so I put a Dimarzio open type one and it holds well.

I did have a faint impression the two humbuckers were set at a slightly different angle but I still don't know if it is just an dellusion resulting from the string spacing growing towards the bridge (as with all guitars).
The single coil in middle is slightly missaligned in favour of the top strings but this doesn't seem to be any problem. I still have this pickup on my axe.

Reliability/Durability : 5
In it's original form with the single locking trem I wouldn't trust it for trem work. It never came back to tune. Now with the new bridge and studs however it is very solid and sustains better too.
For it's unreliable stock bridge I rate it low here, as I don't think anyone else would easily venture into replacing it.

The finish is thick and hard enough to last decades ( I had trouble drilling through it when doing my mods) unless you bump it really hard on a sharp edge, but it will of course loose sparkle as scratches and perspiration gather.

The horn strap button fell off the wood but I glued it back in and it hasn't moved again since. I don't think it is the rule for strap buttons to go loose like that.

Now that it is properly setup and with a reliable bridge I can depend on it and would go live without backup. Actually I would have to because I have no other guitar anyway and because I'm less comfortable with other guitars.

The dudes at the shop didn't seem technically very educated as they couldn't help me with my problems and I'm not a fan of paying to have it repaired either so I learned to do everything myself (bless guitar forums).
They guys even discouraged me from changing bridge saying it would improve nothing. Well it sure did , I can tell ya!

The warranty was 1 year for the electric parts i think... useless

Overall Rating : 8
I have been playing for three years, self-taught and in the meanwhile I have also purchased some Ibanez pedals, an ibanez bass and an ibanez electroaccoustic guitar.

If it were stolen I would definitelly go for an RG again although I would probably go higher-end and get a japanese model with a good bridge already on. Having to replace stuff means money wasted on buying the original stuff.
I would be very sorry though because I got the last of the now discontinued Dimarzio Multibuckers. It better not be stolen!

Here I rate the guitar I made it into. Not what it was.

I bought my ibanez 3 years ago. it was made in mexico. it has 24 frets and has a solid top body. it has a volume knob, a tone knob and a 5-way selector. although it would be much better if the pickups were a V7 and a V8 like my ibanez 550ltd. the fret board is cool coz of it's shark tooth inlays and i find kinda easy to handle. mine has a black metallic finish. i can only say that the features are cool and very impressive

Sound : No Opinion
the ibanez 270Dx is a very flexible guitar when it comes to sound. me, i play rap metal songs and heavy metal and it suits my taste. i find the tones clean when it comes to solos. coz in my band, i am the lead guitarist(cooool!!!!!) although i find some little problems when it comes to live performance. the feed backs are a little annoying even though my noise reduction effects is maxed out. but this guitar is really cool.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
the guitar was well arranged and well polished. the pickups sounds great although the bridged was a little high but no worries i adjusted it myself. nothing to say coz it has no other deffects.

Reliability/Durability : 9
this guitar rocks! when i play live performances, the guitars keeps on flying anywhere but still it can hold its tuning very well. my guitar is 3 years old now and it still looks great. but it has a long scratch at the side coz my younger bro dropped it.( Shiiiit!!!!!) it has been my one true love coz my surname is also ibanez.(shocking)

Customer Support : No Opinion

i have been playing for over 3 years now. and my fretboard fireworks suits this guitar.i am currently holding the title as best guitarist in my school and in my place. my band is also well known of its adrenaline popping sound. people freaks out when we play(yeah baby!) my only advise about this guitar is love it as you loved your band. keep it scratch free if possible.
