my guitar is the japanese 1991 Ibanex Dessert Eagle yellow RG550 (i understand this is a rare color)
24 frets
Wizard II maple neck (highly reccomended)

The guitar came stock with 3 pickups
2 dimarzzio factory humbuckers
and a lower model dimarzzio single coil pickup
These pickups were all well and good but I needed something with a bit more BALLS.
I replaced all of the pickups with
2 green dimarzzio Evolutions (accents the yellow quite a bit)
and a seymour duncan HOT RAILS trembucker
I also replaced the stock 3 channel selector to a 5 way switch.

this axe was made 13 years ago so its not perticularly as flashy as the newer RG550's, it had a Floyd Rose Tremlo with the injector-style whammy bar. Unfortunately the guitar came with a missing trus rod cover and the angler bar that alligns the strings on top of it. Ive found that these pieces are nearly impossible to find in retail stores. so try ebay jagoff.

This guitar is built for chaos, and when i got the things on this guitar just the way i wanted them, this guitar tured into a METAL MACHINE! This is by far the best sounding guitar i have ever owned. As a musician I put my faith into what good musicians know. Steve Via knows Ibanez. And the pickups he designed for Dimarzzio are MADE for the Ibanez. The high tones that this beast can conjure, what I though were before unimaginable. (BUY THIS PICKUP!) In combination with a HUSH gate inside of my processor and numerous digital effects, you are able to fret effortlessly with the wizard II neck and solos flow with fluid grace.

I play this guitar through a crate blue voodoo 120v tube amplifer with the gold trim and the matching half stack cab. Running through a rockitron chamelieon rackmounted processor with a noisegate. To tweak out the scratchy high end when im riffing, i run my low channels through a rackmounted compressor. and finally out and to a vintage cry baby wha wha pedal. Less is more baby

The action on this guitar gives me the ability to play harder and faster to the type of music I desire. In combonation with the whammy bar you can do an infinite amount of Judas Priest-esque dive bombs and wails. Or use the bridge pickup to shred like slayer or crunch like GWAR.

The wizard II is GOD

The stock pickups were also dimarzzios and sounded good but didnt have the low end i was looking for.

The best thing about this guitar is that when i had purchased it it had a considerable amounts of cosmetic scratches and dings on the body so it didnt nessecarily break my heart if i bonked it against the wall. Unfortunately a grave issue with my guitar and also i have heard with models RG540 RG550 and RG570 is that after a long perious of use the wood will crack in certain areas, i.e behind the neck of the guitar where the neck fits into the headstock. and also where the body meets the end of the fretboard hairline cracks start to appear. execept obviously for the 570 which is a nect thru instrument.

BLUNTLY: ive never disliked as single note that ever came out of this guitar.

live tested ready to go.

Sure, its not cheap crap

cosmetics are unimportant to me. rough around the edges i would say.

I used that bolt on garbage for a while until i realized how stupid it was and got a HUGE strap full of wounderfull gel!

only an idiot would play a show without a backup

Ibanez's website is a waste of life, never order anything from there please!

Overall Rating : No Opinion
ive been playing guitar since i was about 14 so about 7-8 years

"yea who mangled this fucking thing?"

Ill probably always play ibanez they make a good instrument, id probably get a newer version of the same thing.

this guitar was in a race with jackson kelly i used to own. i sold the kelly and kept the RG so what does that say?

hmmm.... im working on attaching a sampler that will feed out through my amp. I want to try to mount the sampler internaly. Also maybe those electronic glowing fretmarkers.JOY!

My amazing YELLOW Ibanez is a 2000 model and could be made in japan, but who cares about that?! it comes with 24 frets with V7, V1 (single coil) V8 pickups. These are the best standard pickups i have ever used on guitars i have owned in the past. The neck is smooooooooooooooth as ice, what do you expect from a maple neck?? This guitar has never gone out of tune, even when i tune down to C sharp.

This suits my music style to the maximum, as i play stuff from clean, to kick ass metal. I am currently useing a marshall JCM 900 half stack with the GT3 boss pedals. The sound from the pickups are sweet, the neck is smooth enough to charm me to go out for a drink with, single coil pick ups must die- THEY ARE SHITE!!! Note to ibanez: Throw away your boxes of single coils and stop being silly!.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 4
The action was okay, but the neck was all over the place. Every time i tap the high E string got pulled off the neck. And the guitar fella in the shop couldnt fix it.

Reliability/Durability : 7
Without a doubt i would depend on this guitar on a stage, as i do weekly. My boyfriend comes to my gigs and always brings his guitar just in case (its poo!)

Waste of human life...

i have been playing for 8 1/2 years and sometimes play bass for my mates band. I chose this guitar to try and be a bit more individual than the people with the strats.
