RG7420 made in 2000 in Japan awesome quality, magenta crush with v7 and v8 pickups, 24 frets, volume and tone controls, 5 way selector, floyd rose tremolo i dont play it mutch but it stays in tune forever (never had to retune it exept for alternate tuning)

suits my style pretty well (heavy metal/trash/ etc), stock pickups sound preatty decent and i think there is no need to upgrae it unless you tour/record with it. i use crate amp, boss distortion dod grunge, flanger and waw pedal. sound is very nice especialy for the price paid. neck is very thin and fast it does takes some time to get used to it but after you did it is awesome.

it was setup perfect from the day i got it, and everything was adjusted right all parts were perfect as well you could not ask more for a factory guitar for less than $300

as i mentioned before i do not play mutch but i own this guitar since i bought it new in 2000 and it still look and plays like brand new. some times i dont play it as long as 3-4 months and it is always in tune and ready to go then i want. saying that hardware seems to be very good and quality maid. strap buttons are oversized and you dont have to wory about guitar falling. i can definately depend on it, and sure could withstand gig without a back up.

been playing for 10 years right now i own rg7420, les paul, bc warloc some old guitar i bought from ebay and rebuilt, crate amp, boss dod corg effects, yamaha keybord +++ used to own fenders and more before.
i love you sharp this guitar sounds, ease of use, price and quality. i hate the color even though it is cool on some ways but does not match my mood at all.
i chose this guitar because of price and because of 7 strings.
also about ther price msrp was $799 and it looks like magenta crush was not a best seller in 7 string hard rock guitar audience, so it looks like most places cleared it out by marking it down a lot, i personaly knew that i am geting good deal after CSR @ GS was not able to ring it in, and had to get managers clearance because sale price was lower thatn cost.

Japan made guitar = quality. 24 frets. Magenta Crush. v7, v8 pickups.
Rg model real cool guitar. Licsenced flyod rose tremolo. Well, it's work quite well for me. I never have to tune it.
The colour is nice. Magenta Crush kinda og reed mixed with pink. Well it's a good deal for a cheap 7 stringer.

I generally play the likes of In Flames, Korn, Ozzy, Manson etc.
It's really a quality guitar. You might want to change the pickups. But these are factory cheap made pickups, that delvier a good sound. Dimazio og Emg would hurt the guitar =) But the pickups that comes with are real good =). I'm using it on a Line 6 spider and a Marshall MG. It's a powerfull guitar really good for metal. The clean is also very good. It amazes me how cheap I got such a quality guitar. The only dislike is that it's a bit noisy. It does not handle feedback very well. But this is not a mirical worker. Of course it can handle some, but if you go up a couple of bucks ...youl well get a better Ibanez of course. But for a startet and semi-pro this is a good deal =)

I have played it live. It did the job with no hazzle. Nice sound, and alomst no feedback! Well, it does give feedback sometimes =) The finish is good, but it shows when you scratch it. It's a really dependable guitar, and I used on a gig without any backup twice =)

Made In Japan, 24 jumbo frets, 5-way switch, 1 volume, 1 tone. Basswood body, maple neck and rosewood fingerboard. Ibanez Lo-Trs Trem- basically standard guitar stuff, the Rg7420 I have is a strange crushed-magenta colour (kind of deep pink, not very cool for metalheads). This is all standard features not very up-market but who cares...

I play progressive thrash/death metal type stuff, kind of like Opeth mixed with Old Metallica mixed with Nevermore (aka real metal). I play through a Peavey 5150 head with matching slant cab. This guitar is a 7-string as most readers would probably know- which means there is a tendency for the lower end to be muddy. But in all honesty, the stock pickups in this were not too bad. They were quite powerful enough really, but I still replaced them with EMG 707's which are a hundred times better. The original stock pickups were very versatile and could easily play technical jazz as well as heavy metal-thats about as far as they could extend in either style- but hell, thats enough for stock pickups, isn't it? The sustain is quite average, but come on, this is a standard factory produced Ibanez. Not a handmade neck-thru beauty, so near endless sustain would be a ridiculous ask.
I rate a 7 for the sound with original pickups, but a 9 with the EMG's, they seem to be made for this guitar...(well, not quite since you have to enlarge the pickup cavity to fit 707's in)

Guitar was set up rather poorly, but what can expect, the pickups need adjustment, and the action needed lowering. There are some paint cracks in the corners at some places, and the paint has run slightly in one spot at the back of the guitar, nothing major was wrong with the RG, Ibanez do have some integrity kids...

The Rg 7620 is a good solid workhorse, there should be no problems playing without a backup in a live situation, the finish will probably wear off over time- but a professional player would have gone the next step and bought a flashier guitar before any wearing off would happen.

Never dealt with Ibanez, they are probably one big corporate nightmare anyway. If anything went wrong you be better to deal with the place you got it from, or buy a new guitar- considering the amount of overseas calls you would have to make to Ibanez before they would listen to you.

I have been playing for about 2 years, but I play nearly all the time and have tried out hundreds of guitars already. I see myself as a good player (though a little out-of-touch with the theory side) and my opinion can be considered worthwhile I think. I also own a digitech rp100 pedal (horrible, but has tuner!), a metal-zone pedal (which when used instead of natural tube-amp distortion, as most people know, is also horrible), a crybaby wah (good), an ebow (weird, but cool), and also another two 6 string guitars (a charvel, and a Tokai custom edition) and a 12 string Washburn accoustic.
I don't have any rack units and effects, since they seem to be designed to make the player sound like somebody else (or anybody famous)- which is no true creative musicians goal is it? This guitar is nothing great in itself, but it is perfect as a shell things to be added to it, if you know what I mean. I was originally going for some fancy Jackson or BC Rich handmade neck-thru 7 string deal- but what if that was stolen or destroyed? It would be a massive loss! This Ibanez may not have the exquisite tone woods and flamed tops and all that, but at least it's replacable and most importantly- CHEAP. It would still be a sad day if it were to be destroyed or nicked- as I plan to put a lot of expensive modifications on this RG, but with care, the sound should be comparable with a $4000 guitar for half the price. The feel of the Ibanez neck takes some getting used to, but is competent and overall the guitar is...competent. With EMG pickups installed and the guitar running through my Peavey 5150, it is incredible for the price. Maybe one day I'll get one of Ed Roman's upgrade packages for this guitar ( a good investment as opposed to buying a new guitar), but I don't really want to deal with that demonic guitar luthier just yet. This Ibanez is a great 7 string guitar suitable for all players, worth more than the sum of it's parts, and thats all that matters.

The Ibanez 7420 is the real deal. I am a lefty player and I play only custom Hamer and Tom Anderson guitars. This guitar stacks up to all the others. It was special ordered from Japan. It was priced slightly higher than the righty versions out there, but it is worth it. Great tremolo system with a locking nut. It stays in tune really well. Like in other reviews, the neck is super fast and easy to get used to.

I can play absolutely anything with this guitar. "Kill your mama" crunch to the smoothest jazz chords sound crystal clear. I play through a marshall jubilee series 25/50 watt head and the sound is like a wall. Acheiving very deep lows that are still crisp is what makes this guitar a winner.

The action was factory set and feels pretty comfortable. However, I do plan to have it tweaked by my local guitar professional. At times, it seems a little tough to dig in and get really deep bends, but the width of the neck has a little to do with that. I usually dont trust any guitar to be sent mail order, mostly because I like to play a guitar first. I took a chance and it was well worth it. It arrived in super mint condition without a ding or scratch anywhere.

I havent played it live yet. Im gonna hit a few open stage jams and see how it holds up. Ive put several hours on it already and its starting to get even more comfortable. I have a feeling that I will be a 7 string addict when I get used to playing it. It can easily become my main stage axe.

No contact with Ibanez yet.. It has a 1 year limited warranty. My local Ibanez dealer is an "authorized" repair center, so getting repairs should be no problem.

Ive been playing for over 20 years and have played a lot of lefty guitars. The versatility I now have is unmeasurable. It has opened up a new door of musical exploration and fun. I am back to woodshed again with a newfound curiousity to conquer the 7 string world.
If lightning struck this guitar by accident, I would have another on order in a heartbeat. Ibanez is missing the boat by not marketing this model in the states. If youre a lefty player, get one before they become a memory.

this is the 7-string with the tremolo japan made with 24-frets double hums with 5 way selector and volume and tone knobs ibanez gotoh tuners my first beef with this thing is the poorly made "floyd rose" i thought those bridges were supposed to keep in tune they must have used cheaper metal its wearing on bolth pivot points .onthe other side of the coin a five way selector on two humbuckers provides for more tonal versatility i will give it a 6 because of the horrible wannabe floyd rose

i play anywhere from kill your mother to i love puppies music and it is pretty versatile.amp wise i play a peavey special 212 with an old 2-15 bass cab for sub-sonic low end (bass player?)the stock pick-ups are medium hot(jalapeno as opposed to habanero)they get the job done for now but i intend to replace them with duncan custom 7 string pickups, you get a pretty nice sound a little muddy at times but new pickups should help that i realy cant complain sound-wise

i play out with it about twice a week and i punish the hell out of it and it smiles back at me.i dont think the bridge will last but hopefully i can get a seven string bridge made from case hardened steel like the real floyds from germany.i had to get strap locks because i get so animated when i play.i have chipped the finish a bit being ignorant on stage but thats what builds character my friends i will never gig w-out backup

1999. I think it was made in the US. With ibanez you can never be to sure. Its got a solid top with a metallic black finish on it. I was told by the person on the phone that it only came with this finish. Controls for volume, and tone with a five-way selector. I checked jemsite.com and it says that these are ibanez v-77 pickups. They are actually pretty cool. They aren't as thin sounding as the Blaze pickups. The neck is maple w/ bubinga skunk stripe and a rosewood fretboard. The body is made of mahogany and it shows. It has the thickest seven string sound I have ever heard, and the body is sooooooo thin. It has got to be the most comfortable guitar I have ever played. Its comes standard with a lo-pro floyd which is basically a seven string version of the Lo-TRS. Not really a bad tremolo but I'm not into that whole LO thing (When will they make an Original Floyd Rose tremolo for seven strings???). Plain and simple tuners with a locking nut. 25 1/2" scale which is very comfortable and it has 22 frets. Came with a case.

Sounds very good (duh). It kind of has a LP type distortion tone. Very smooth and never really offensive to the ear. The clean tone it very warm and crisp. It is a very "focused" sound, and it actually takes a while to get used to. Not really much noise here, and if there is any its only good noise. The sound is very full, and doesn't really require that much gain to make it scream. Again the seven string necks are a pain in the ass if you aren't Steve Vai but once you get used to them they are actually quite pleasant (It just takes a really long time to get used to them).

Bought it over the phone which is never a good way to buy guitars but in this case everything actually came in pretty good condition. The setup was almost perfect but I did have to make a few personal adjustments. But they are just that...personal. How can the factory setup the guitars good for everyone? Surprisingly no flaws here even though I ordered it over the phone.

Seems pretty solid. I used it once live and I can't say it wasn't a load of fun to play. On top of that I always wanted the S-series 7 strings but they went out of production so this is like a dream come true. The only problem was that it went out of tune a lot but this is just be my stupidity of changing the strings, setting up the guitar after changing the strings and not fully stretching the strings only about a half hour before the gig. The strap butons were changed to Schallers and the rear cover has been removed. I also had mounting rings added.

Very cool guitar. [As of two seconds ago I decided I don't really have a need for my RG anymore. If anyone wants it e-mail me.] If it were stolen I'd have to buy it again. It is the ultimate seven string. I love the body. It weighs about a pound, and it sounds so friggin huge!!! The only thing I am not to sure about is these pickups. I use it with a TriAxis and it sounds pretty good so far with most of my patches but these patches were created with EMG pickups, on 6 string guitars. A very big difference. So I have made a few extra patches just for the S. With my current tuning/string gauge combo it isn't always necessary to switch but I am a tonal tweaker and sometimes I just need that extra kick in the ass. The best thing about this guitar is almost everything about this guitar.
