Made in 02 i think in Korea. It has 22 frets plus a volume and tone button. It also has a thin wizard II neck and a 5-way pickup selector. (The pickups designed by EMG).
It has a sweet luthite body (mine is JBF colour which is gorgeous). The bridge on mine is actually ibanez made instead of some of the floyd rose most others have.
Has a locking trem which can and cant b a pain.
Sound
:

I wud imagine this guitar can suit pretty much every style of music, as sounds from acoustic 2 heavily distorted can b acheived. I am usin a peavey rage 158 atm, which is ok but not amazin, howeva the sounds r still incredible.
Wot i particularly like about the sound is the smooth low one u hear wen this guitar is on any setting at all. It suits the style of music i prefer. So ther we go. A lot of variety.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

The action was not bad at all. Although it may hav bin wen it left the factory, the shop i got it from made sure it was all in tune and that the action was ok, which was great.
I can't find ne flaws at all on this guitar. It plays and looks like a dream. Even the plastic strap buttons seem 2 b coping although nething cud happen...
Reliability/Durability
:

I personally believe that if this guitar cant withstand live playing, none can. It is such a strong long-lasting instrument. However, if the strap buttons do giv up on me, i suppose ill b wrong.
I feel this is a reliable guitar and i cant c the finish goin newher. For the price and quality of the name, i really cant c this guitar being easy 2 wear off.

I also own a peavy rapture which doesnt live up 2 the standard of my ibanez at all, although it is very reliable too. I wud not hesitate 2 get this same guitar if nething happened 2 it. I love the colour and finish, they help round of a beautiful guitar.
I sometimes wish ther was an easy way to change it 2 drop-d in a matter of seconds, however the locking trem proves this impossible.
I like the fact i got it on a buy now pay 6 months l8er deal, as it helps a lot with gettin the money 2gether.
Oh yea and notice how "ergodyne" has the word "god" in it. I think this may b how it got its name?...

Ibanez EDR470EX, made in Korea probably 2001 or early 2002 (I bought it summer 2002). It has 22 Jumbo frets on a fairly thin Wizard II neck, luthite body, which has a really nice tone - I was trying some RG's then I played this & the difference is amazing! Standard volume & tone knobs, and 5-way pickup selector for the H-S-H EMG designed pickups. The tremelo on mine is a Lo-TRS II, which stays in tune very well, I think the current models have a different tremelo though. It's a locking system which adds to the tuning stability but can make string changing take longer than normal!

I've had this guitar for almost a year now, & in that time I've tried to get a vast range of sounds out of it - in almost all cases I've been successful and it's sounded great!! The only thing you cant get 100% is a twangy strat sound but that's to be expected from a guitar like this. The middle single coil pickup does a good job though for that sort of thing.
I play it through a Marshall AVT100 (plus Crybaby wah, Boss DD-5 delay & CS-3 compressor/sustainer) which means I've got loads of settings to play with, and you really can get a massive range of sounds out of it - it's very versatile.
Overall the tone is very rich, good for getting Satriani type lead tones, & the sustain is excellent for this style of guitar. The tone is what made me buy this guitar - it sounds great!
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

When I first bought it the set up on the tremelo wasn't perfect, and there was a small amount of fret buzz, but I took it back to the shop and they gave it a full set up free of charge - and now it's set up properly it's fine. The action is set quite low on mine & it's very smooth which makes it excellent for lead (although it's just as good playing rhythm!). The pickups have always been fine.
Reliability/Durability
:

The only problem I have with this guitar is the tremelo arm - it's a screw-on arm which has a nut to tighten it in place while the arm is still free to move - and the nut comes undone very easily which makes the arm feel loose. Although I think the problem might just be me not tightening it enough! And also I think the current models have a different tremelo so this problem might not exist anymore. One last problem is the strap buttons (which have been mentioned elsewhere here too), they're made of plastic and if you put your guitar down on the floor too hard - crack! The bottom one on my guitar broke, and although it's some kind of double screw arrangement on the original one I've fitted a single screw metal strap button and haven't had any problems.
Apart from that I'm 100% sure this guitar would withstand serious live playing, and could easily be used without a backup.... while hoping you don't break a string!

British built Ibanez EDR470ex
22 frets
Solid Luthite body, moon shadow flat finish (cool light blue)
HSH configeration - says "designed by EMG" but they're passive so i assume they're based on the EMG HZ's
Ibanez TRS II Locking Trem
I would give this a nine but i've grown to hate Locking Trem's
Sound
:

My music style is a mixture of everything from blues to Screaming Metal and usually this guitar can provide exactly what i need
I use the Neck bucker for acoustic work, the single coil for blues and the bridge bucker for the distorted stuff. You can get some excellent tones out of this guitar is you fiddle with the tone pot and the pickup configurations
I use a marshall AVT275 and the Ibanez can usually make this amp cook very well. Yet it lacks a certain PUNCH which i need for some heavy stuff. You can't pinch harmonics on this guitar very well simply because the pickups outputs isn't that high. I was thinking about changing the pickups to EMG 81's but theres no real space in the back of the guitar for active electronics so i just bought a new one
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

The action was awful when i got it, over half an inch off the board, but i managed to alter it down to a good height with the handy alan keys that Ibanez included with this guitar. No fret buzzing no its been lowered either
I cannot find any finish imperfections, so no worries there
I severely dislike the locking trem, simply because it creates difficulty while changing the strings and when changing string guages you have to basically take the guitar apart and alter every aspect of the mechanics in the trem. I'm changing my guitar to a fixed bridge now, the locking trem isn't worth the trouble

I've played this thing live many times and it was worked very very well. I've smashed the headstock against walls (by accident obviously) and it hasn't affected the sound at all, barely scraped the finish, very impressive

I have been playing for a good 7 years now. Along with my Marshall AVT275 i own a Boss MT-2 distortion pedal and a crybaby. This guitar was sounding quite muddy lately but i changed the strings a few days ago and now it really does sing.
I have had some good gigs with this guitar, it's got me through many hard times and has never broken down on me, if it wasn't for the floating trem i'd upgrade the pickups and keep it, but there ya go. If this guitar had a les paul style tune-o-matic bridge then i would carry this guitar to the ends of the earth, but unfortunately thats not the case. A good player, the floyd rose robs it of a 10

luthite body, locking trem (floyd rose), thin neck, volume and tone pots, made in korea 2002,a kind of shiny but dull finish very nice, passive pickups, pickups have designed by emg printed on them so my guess is they are emg, 22 frets, ibanez case (very cool), strat style body, fretboard rosewood and maple neck
Sound
:

at the moment i am playing it through a marshall MG30DFX it sounds beautiful on the neck pickup with a bit of gain and volume crankend up but the i am not to keen on the bridge as now and again i like to play van halen licks and screaming harmonics which is a bit hard to acheive, maybe its my amp i dunno. there are endless tones to this attractive guitar but i find it a bit mellow for my kind of playing

when i first played it the action was terrible (way to high) i had it set down and did a bit of adjusting myself and now the action is great. everything else is perfect apart from the floyd rose which always goes out of tune if you dont tighten the nuts to the limit, i have alredy stripped the threads off one screw. i have noticed that on the 12th fret on the g string there is fret buzz, i have had to higher the tremelo system to get rid of it

this guitar is great, but before buying think about the amount of time it takes to tune up and change strings, thats the mistake i made.i have been playing for three years and i am 14 but i know what i am doing with guitars and everyone says i am a prodigy. i have just bought an epiphone explorer but it plays like a gibson. if i could change this guitar i wouldn't it just takes time to play in and get used to the trem is a bit difficult at the moment but that will fix itself in time. good guitar but takes time to get used to

Every thing is good
Except the strap... really baaaad ! i've changed them for Fender Strap Lock, much better!

The floyd is set to high, don't worry, it's easy to adjuste

The sound's really good!
that sounds really clean compared to my ex-EXSeries
i've tried it with a JCM2000 DSL-401 from Marshall, and that blows !
a Pro-Fender friend said that Ibanez can't do good clean sound, but after trying my Ergodyne, he was astonished.
It can produce really beautiful clean sound, and about Distorsion... don't worry, with a GT-6, it's powerful.
I think, i'll try some Dimarzio (Paf-Pro or Evolution) :')
so, i can't give it a 10

It's the perfect guitar for the price, and bear in mind that you can upgrade the pickups (excellent body for resonance), then your Pokemon will become a Monster ! :'?

The edr470ex is great value for money, it looks so damn sweet and has the new emg pickups that its pre-decessor lacked... as you would imagine the emgs give it a good sound for lead and rythem.
5 way pickup selector, H-S-H configuration...all very lovely except some people find that the single in the middle can get in the way.
The luthite body is good for sustain on those high notes.
Floyd rose, a nice touch.
Dragged down by the s**t plastic strap locks.

It sounds brilliant, great for lead and rythem tones. It has a nice bright sound.
A great sounding guitar at 450 pounds sterling rrp.

I found the Factory set up was really crap on the floyd...the springs were slack as if they'd been taken out of an old used guitar, however this is easily sorted. As a consiquence of the floyd not being set up properly (it was slightly raised) the action was quite high.
there was a slight defect on the 2nd/3rd fret by the high E string...the were a couple of tiny bits of varnish on the very edge of the fret board, not enough to effect playing at all.
The plastic strap locks are a major pain in the ass if you are in any way active in the way you play...comsidering that the luthite body is a little heavier than a wooden body having plastic strap locks was a really stupid mistake by ibanez.
Appart from all of that, with a few tweaks its a great guitar.
Reliability/Durability
:

Once the strap locks have been changed I think it can be used to gig.
The finish is really nice but where my arm rests when i play sitting down the mat/oil finish has rubbed off into a shiny gloss finish almost, (no colour difference, just shiny).

Ive never delt with ibanez due to faults...
However I ordered this guitar in late july and it took till mid december to arrive! Not exactly great delivery speeds...im fairly convinced ibanez only employ one man to deliver the guitars and unfortunately the man has no arms or legs... :P
Overall Rating

Over all this is (with a few minor tweaks) a really sweet guitar, very good value for money. Before i ordered it i wish i had enquired about the ibanez delivery man.
I compared this guitar with maverick x-1 / x-2....the JS100 (which i really liked but decidedat the time to upgrade amp at the same time so funds did not stretch to the price of the JS). etc etc
The edr won over all competition due to value for money, looks and feel.
I may at some point fit a JS neck to it because it is simply one of the nicest necks ive ever played.

I wont go into features as there the same throughout the board... 22 frets, H-S-H, locking trem etc.. and Ohh that body! Mines a 2002 silver number purchased in England straight after it came out. All the features are great bar one... its got a Vai/Satch vibe and so really needs 24 frets.
Sound
:

The sounds produced by the EMGs are good, really good but lack that certain something. However at this price that isnt an issue. You have two options, you either put good pickups on a guitar and flog it at a value for money price or you put top notch gear on there and charge the earth whilst still restricting someone to a certain sound, so I say go with the first and have some change to customize it. Ive fitted a Paf Pro on the neck and a Vai Evolution at the bridge which really makes this thing squeal like a pig (I like it). I think the luthite body helps with the bright sustain yet still theres plenty of low end grumble if your into that. This aside the original pickups were still very good and that price (450 sterling) you cant complain.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

The guitar is absolutely flawless bar one little niggle which is the locking nut. Ive got a real sharp edge (and I mean sharp) where it clamps the top E string so any first fret magic results in a cat scratch across the first fingers nuckle. Apart from that I cant complain, Except those F*#king strap buttons but I,ll save that...
Reliability/Durability
:

Right, lets get to those buttons... I read a review here before I bought her and someone said the buttons suck. I thought what a clumsey idiot, take abit of care, and then I got her home.... I had a play for about half an hour, sat it down and then watched in horror as the strap button snapped (its made of plastic). Two months later and the front one went! Now that aint a problem as I wanted to replace them anyway but the F$#king rear one is held to tthe body by two bloody screws. I think when Ibanez made this guitar they didnt realise what a proper piece of kit they were creating and that some people might want to A) Take it out of there bedroom and onto a stage and B) keep it for more than six months. So I now have to pay aluthier to block one of the holes and sprat the damn thing. Sort it out Ibanez. Just cos we dont have the money for a chromeboy doesnt meen we arent serious enough to put up with sub standard Lego strap buttons.

This guitar can be an absolute monster and a real eye catcher and so despite the god awful strap buttons and the razor blade nut Im giving her a huge ten... The Jem was nice but after the pickup change Ive finally found my soulmate..long live the Ergodyne, (except those F$#king buttons)!!

As far as I know its is the same as the EDR on the Ibanez UK website but with superior EMG designed pickups.

This guitar is meant for metal music although you can get some pretty nice single coil vintage type sounds from it. I'm only starting out with guitars although Ive been using keyboards since I was 3 years old. I have a digitech RP200 which is OK but not brilliant. I run that into my computer so its far from ideal.
The Ibanez site boasts that the EDR can produce both rythm and lead tones although I think this is wrong. The sound always seems to be somewhere in the middle which is ok if thats your thing.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

The setup was ok but I had it re-setup and had some power slinkys fitted which changed the sounf a lot. They also made it harder to play.
I can't actually find any floors in the guitar at all to be honest but then I'm not an expert. The matte electric blue finish is very sexy and just invites touching, far better than the gibson satin finish that rubs off in an hour. It looks far more pricey than it actually is.

Well, first things first, the Ergodyne EDR470EX-MWF (made in 2002) is Korean, but, in this case, it doesn?t means much: as some Jems, it is supposed to be among the best Korean-made guitars. And it?s quite good, indeed.
The body is made of Luthite, the same composite, ecological material that comes with Satriani?s Chrome Boy. Although synthetic, it looks and feels like wood, just a little heavier. The neck (rosewood with ebony fingerboard, sleek, fast!) is comfortable, with the correct amount of relief and 22 jumbo frets.
It features a H/S/H configuration, with a volume and a tone knob, 5-way selector, with EMG designed pickups.
The bridge... ok, it?s not perfect. The Lo-Trs II has some problems, and we all know that. But it?s good enough: you can bend, you can slap, you can dive-bomb, you can flutter, but if you are into very, very hard whammy-abuse, it will fail and go out of tune. By the way, the guitar has double-locking system with very good, precise tuners and fine-tuners.
Sound
:

I play, mostly, strange music: Robert Fripp, Keneally, Zappa, early Steve Vai, Henry Kaiser, Buckethead, Scott Henderson, Brett Garsed. Eventually, I play a bit of jazz, and a tiny bit of shred. I would say that this guitar is a very good choice for the first group, a bad choice for the second and a good choice for the last one.
I play it through a Marshall JCM 800, and it sounds pretty good. These EMG pickups are quite versatile and can produce a wide variety of tones: from the bluesy Fender-sounding (with the single coil) to a hot and plenty of sustain humbucker configuration. The humbuckers are splittable through the selector, which goes: H(bridge); 1/2H(bridge) and S; S only; S and 1/2H(neck); H(neck).
The body, due to the Luthite, gives to this thing a very rich sound in any of the pickups configuration. And, due to its stiffness, weather simply doesn?t affect it.
No hum, no noise, even at high volumes.
For this matter, sound, I like it a lot.

For this kind of money, the finish is really something. The EDR is impressive, good-looking, well done in the details: almost flawless painting, bracing, fretting, etc. It has silver nickel hardware, the plastic looks like silver as well. It came out of the box ready to play, with mid-low action (about 1.8 mm/treble side). The middle pickup was set up a bit too high (and it was easily adjusted).
Reliability/Durability
:
9
Ok, I have bought it two months ago. I can't say it yet, but I think it will last for decades. Just in case: the strap buttons of this one are not made of plastic, but metal, although that was not the case with the other review.
Would I use it on a gig without a backup? No, but I am not confident enough to do that, even with the perfect guitar...

I've been playing for the last 15 years.
I've owned Ibanez (RG570, JEM7BSB, other Koreans), Fender Strat (American and Mexican) and a Gibson ES335. To my mind, this guitar is one of the best middle-class available: it is definitely better than a Mexican Strat, it is better than any Jackson, Fernandes or Yamaha that I?ve already played on and it's, of course, worse than any high-end model...
All in all, if you play more than one style, need a good, reliable guitar that offers more than one sound, don't need a perfect whammy and don't have US$2000, you can trust this one.
To this day, you have to live outside US in order to buy it. If you want to see it, follow this link:
http://www.ibanez.co.jp/world/guitar/edr/pages/edr470ex.html
That's it.
Thanks!
