Finish: Dull green color. I like this very much, as I have realized that it can stand scratches and such things, much better than a guitar with a clear finish. This one looks very nice too.

Body style: The style is reminding of the traditional Ibanez guitar model, except that it is more "round". No sharp edges on this guitar. It is very comfortable, looks great and it is not to heavy.

Bridge style: It is a floyd rose bridge on this guitar. And I think that this one is working really good, actually. It does not retune itself and it is very stable.

Tuners: The tuners are.. great!? What else is there to say. It have the lock-function at the top of the neck. And it works fine, locking the strings, preventing them to retune themselves.

Neck/scale: The neck is ok. Of course it can get even better. But for guitar at this price it is great. Thin enough for me, anyhow.

Which controls are given: One for volume, one for tone and a 5-way selector. That is everything that I need. No needles controls as on some other guitar-models.

Pickup configuration: H/S/H. As I mostly play hard music, I would only need one humbucker att the bottom of the body. But it is good with two, and then a singlecoil. That makes it possible to play.. anything!

Sound : 7
How does it suit your music style (and what is that style): It suits my style of playing good. Of course it could get better with other pickups. But these is working rather well.

Likes and dislikes: I might find it a little hard to make overtones and such things on this one. It works well, but it is easier on some other guitars.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The only thing that I can say here is that I bought this as a used guitar. But it was in a very good contidion (even the protective plastic was still on the guitar), and the guy that I bought it from did a setup of strings, intonation, bridge and so on, when I bought it. So when I got it home it was perfect.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Does the hardware seem like it will last: Yes. The hardware seems very stable, and I defenitely think that it will work for a while.

Is the finish good enough to last, or does it seem thin and easy to wear off with lots of playing: The finish is even better than standard, clear finishes. This one stand scratches even more.

Are the strap buttons solid: Yes. I got the buttons changed, so mine's very solid! ;)

Customer Support : No Opinion
No opinion.

How long have you been playing? What other gear do you own: I have been playing for 6 - 7 years. But my main-instrument is drums. So I mostly play/record guitar at home, by my computer. This is my only guitar, for now. I used to own a Gibson Explorer and a Jackson RR3, but then I realized that I didnt need one of thoose expensive, weird-shaped guitars.

If it were stolen or lost, would you buy it again or get something else: This model is out of production. I think I would buy an Ibanez guitar, of course. But not this model.

What do you love about it? What do you hate? What is your favorite feature: I like the look, the sound, the feeling. One thing that could have made the guitar even better, is if the neck would have been glued or a neck-thru! Otherwhise I dont have anything to complain about.

Did you compare it to other guitars? Which ones? Why did you choose this one: Gibson Explorer and Jackson RR3. I needed a "budget" guitar, but still a good one.

My first floyd rose guitar. Wasn't too bad to get used to, and now that i am familiar with it it's very easy to use.

Sound : No Opinion
Gives an awesome ful metal sound, sounds better through bigger amps. Also gives a great jazz tone. I mostly play it with a bassy tone, and i get excellent results.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action on this guitar is amazing, it's the main reason for me buying it. It really impressed me, it's so low that you can play it like a piano.

Nice finish, saw this guitar is a shop before i'd even started playing, and liked it straight away, and 3 years on, when i could finally affrod it, it was still my favourite guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 5
Never had any faults with the electric etc.

However the strap buttons fell off, once it was nearly dropped down a flight of stairs, and once came off on stage, which is very inconvenient. Just put some resin glue in and haven't had any problems since.

Dealt with the shop - not with the company

well it looks the part, its not a mamby pamby lookin inda axe. mines the Smoke green colour that looks absolute shite on the Iby webiste but kicks ass when you see it in the flesh, or whatever the hell its made of. its basically the love child of Joe Satriani and a UFO, i love it. I love the neck, i can still stretch 10 frets, which is a good thing, even though the fret are quite huge. its a nice weight i think, its not too light, id honestly take this guitar into a battle knowing id kill some people with it. The only fault i could pick with mine was that the volume pot was fucked when i got it but thats sorted.

Sound : 9
I love the sound, i wouldnt mind having the bridge pick-up bein a little bit more crunchy, but i really cant fault it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The setup was piss poor when i first got it, it didnt take long to set it up though. the action was quite high at first but i sorted that in second, i ajusted the height of the bridge humbucker to get the most out of it. i cant fault any of the hardware either. looks gorgoeus, brushed chrome dudes! cant beat it. the metallicy stuff in the finish looks great aswel, the bridge is fuckcin fabulous, you can get the strings to hang of your guitar and it still keeps its tone. its great.

Reliability/Durability : 10
you could slide down a hill on this guitar and it would still work. ive dropped mine numerous times, not on purpose though, and nothin has gone wrong with it, which is quite amazin cos i dropped my LP and it fucked it completely, humbucker came out n everythin

For the price this guitar really has everything you could want. Locking nut five way selector and an excellent edge pro II bridge. The body is luthite which makes this guitar even heavier than the warlock I used to play which is good and bad.. It does feel like you could go to war with this thing strapped around you though.

Sound : 7
The Ibanez EMG's are ok they offer a wide range of sounds and are suited to a player getting more advanced but not quite ready for a jem or JS. They are the worst emg's I'e heard but they are still good. Can get some nice pinched harmonics and fun harmonic scoops. The neck pickup is really excellent for lead guitar but the bridge is a bit weak for heavier rhythm while the combination of the middle pickup and half of the neck makes for excellent acoustic tone.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The action is rather high on this guitar. I would need a file if i wanted it lower because I get fret buzz if I alter the strings just ever so slightly but it's still very enjoyable to play mainly due to the bridge I believe. The finish is a purply ble colour called Jewel blue it's ok, a bit toyish but the luthite body and shape of the guitar makes it look quite similar to a JS. the pickups are solid the whole guitar is apart from the tone selector which seems to have come loose and scrapes the guiar when I change it...

Reliability/Durability : 7
The guitar is extremely durable with the luthite body. I've played it in the rain and taken it to beaches and it's perfectly fine. The hardware is solid no problem there, I love the diecast sort of look on the metal of the guitar. The finish polishes up with heavy use! It's strange but evidently the more you use this guitar the nicer it looks since my arm rubs parts of the finish off the blue colour seems to shine glossier and it looks a lot better. Highly irregular but good nonetheless! The strap buttons are ine and I could use this guitar as a baseball bat and happily get on stage afterwards.

Customer Support : 8
Ibanez are my favourite guitar manufacturer but I have yet to test their customer support. However it cannot possibly be as bad as BC-Rich their customer support sucks ass!

Overall Rating : 8
I own a laney HCM and a various fx. If the guitar was stolen or lost I would probably suck it up and pay the big bucks for the JS1200 or a JEM of some sort instead of buying another since it does get a little boring after a while. I eel like I am growing out of it. I wish it had some better pickups otherwise it's a great guitar for the money. FOR THE MONEY THOUGH!

2004, made in korea. made of luthite plastic stuff, heavy but sooo reasonant. HSH config, loaded withs EMG's. rosewood neck, 22 jumbo frets, could do with 24 really. strat style, double locking edge pro2. as guitar features go, its top notch

Sound : 9
when run through a boss DS1 and marshall MG 30, is sings like a hooker on heat, no noise from the emg's though pickup selecting makes the trem springs make noise and really needs to be stuffed with cotton woll to stop it. easy satch and vai sounds, high power pu's. the middle pickup has to be set too high to equal out the sound though. its good for heavy metal to jazz.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
the shop where i bought it set it up crap, so 2 hours later with an allen key and screwdriver, this thing was playing like nothing else. the body and neck work is flawless, everything is top notch.

Reliability/Durability : 10
this thing is built like a brick shit-house. bombs won't destroy it! the trem is bullit proof, but the return to pitch suffers with repeated abuse. the old plastic strap bottons have been replaced with metal ones, so no probs there. i also have an aria m650, but i wouldn't need it for backup as this guitar is all i really need

Customer Support : No Opinion
never needed to use them, altough a mate of mine says their helpful enough

Overall Rating : 10
i love this guitar. i now need nothing else. i'd recomend it to anyone for any style. its easily better than the strat it replaced, and my other guitar is only used for down tuning. buy it if you want a mid range beast.

Ive got the latest incarnation for the EDR it seems, as going by the past reviews there have been some upgrades done in the past.
These changes would be: pickups, bridge, and strap buttons.

The floating bridge on here has gone through a number of refinements as you may notice from some of reviews. The latest is the Ibanez Edge Pro II. Perfect in everyway and better than a standard FLOYD ROSE! Absolutely no shortcomings apart from the unmentionable time to do string changes, but that comes part and parcel with a floating bridge so you shouldnt even mention that if you want a guitar with a bridge of this type.
Im playing with the bridge blocked so its essentially a fixed bridge.. Im no kamikaze divebombing lead player yet! This makes it simpler and quicker to tune up/down.

Sound : 9
Pickups: 'designed by EMG' Ibanez passive humbuckers and 1 x single coil. They're not as high output as the Dimarzio Dual Sound (which is a coil tapped Super Distortion), but have a nice beefy low-end which I like as Im tuned to D and sometimes C with heavy gauge strings. This definitely pumps up the tone somewhat. The pickups are normally the first thing Id look at changing on a guitar but these should do me for awhile until I discover any shortcomings... if any, it would be output strength could be hotter, but my pre-amp has more than enough gain on tap to compensate. They are also VERY quiet. A lot less prone to feedback and resonant feedback. Very controllable.
I could do with a bit more topend in the signal but a little EQ sorts that out.
Great pickups for a stock setup.
I do agree with the Ibanez blurb that the EDR can go from screaming lead to liquid rhythm. The neck pickup sounds good too!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
What grabbed me about the guitar is its finish and hardware. There's no plastic on here at all. Even the pickup rings are brushed Chrome!!! The locking nut and bridge are metal too!

Neck, supposedly one of the best in the business. Wizard II. Thin, sleek and fast with big frets for me with big fingers. Fantastic action with the standard string gauges. But I need to do some fine tuning with the heavy set ive got on there now. Nothing a good luthier cant work out in an hour (truss rod adjustments?). I like my action low cos I play lightly.

Even the strap buttons have been upgraded to metal cos a lot of people complained about the old plastic ones breaking.

Reliability/Durability : 8
And in case you didnt know, the one thing that IS plastic is the body!!!! Yepo.... this axe is made of a material called Luthite. A material that obviously has had months of research pumped into it and this is what they have come up with... a highly resonant breathing piece of manmade material. It is indeed resonant and has a tone all its own. The upside is that because its not wood, the weather wont affect it. Play this guitar everywhere, rain, snow, hail, sun, desert, moon. It wont let you down. Dont let the fact that its not wood put you off... You will be surprised.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never tried it.

Why did I buy this guitar?
1. 25.5" scale length = Heavier tone. A Les Paul for example has 24.75" scale. You may not think its much, but a difference it does make! You can feel it in your fingers too. Remember a 'baritone' guitar is 27". So if that isnt quite your cup o tea look at at 25.5" scale.

2. Good pickups. as mentioned above. I can live with these for awhile. Would like to try a Seymour Duncan in the bridge at some stage,

3. Workmanship: I have found no flaws in the setup and assembly of this Korean guitar. Price/Quality ratio is through the roof! Truly impressive.

4. Seductive looks: although Im personally not in love with the body, I have had nothing but people saying 'good looking guitar' to me ... ok, so maybe it is?

The clincher on this guitar really is the quality you are getting for the price. Its a steal.

this korean 2003(?)guitar has 22 jumbo frets, sitting on a non-finished, beautiful maple, thin neck. The ibanez/EDR pick-ups are great, the bridge humbuker from the h/s/h set-up is not as high-output as i may have wanted but it is fine (for now). The luthite body has no finish. the shape is like a stat but all rounded off and beautiful. it has a floyd rose style bridge (an edge pro 2) and no case, which is a shame cos i love those ibanez hardcases.

Sound : 9
it works best for shred/metal etc. and goes great through a marshall.
it is pretty noise free and has a wide variaty of sounds, the only slight problem is the bridge pick-up...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
the action was to high, but that was sorted fast, i love the no-finish style because your arm glides over it so well, a bit of a noisy tone control, but that was also sorted fast.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It is great live, the new strap holders make so much difference, i mean loads, they said that the body wont crak easily, i would only have a back-up guitar for incase i broke a string...

i have had it for a few months and i play it through a marshall VS2000 AVT 100, a Boss HM-3 and a jim dunlop crybaby 535QC (c for chrome), all of which are awsome, i would get it again, the only minor problem is the bridge pick-up, but that is minor. Great value for money.

Features are already explained in posts above.
22 jumbo frets, Wizard 2 neck, luthite body, H-S-H designed by EMG, Edge Pro II tremolo, etc...

I would have prefered a 24 fret neck, but this one will do the trick.

Sound : 9
It sounds really great. The 2 humbuckers have a rather high output level. I find the single coil is a bit useless as the output level is really lower than the 2 humbuckers. The 2nd and 4th position of the five way selectors allow a great variety of tones.
You can achive really big distorsions on this axe on both of the humbuckers, but clean sounds are also great on these two pickups. Cool round sound...
I mainly play rock, heavy and blues (music from the 70's to today) and this guitar fits all my needs.
I guess a split on the humbuckers could have made it sounds more like a stratocaster...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The setup was quite good out of the box. I just had to tune it and there ya go... :)
The action is quite low, which is good to me. I like low action. Neck is thin and flat.. Very fast.
The finish is amazing on a guitar of this price. And that body, awesome !!!

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Don't really know, as i own it only for a few days, but it seems quite solid.
I guess this guitar will withstand live playing. But don't forget to have a backup...
You never know when you break a string.
Mine came with metal straps, not plastic ones.

Customer Support : 8
Never dealt with them...
I waited nearly a month to have this guitar shipped to my local dealer.

That's no problem, as he made me a fair discount on the flight case, the stand and the leather strap for the delay... :)

Overall Rating : 10
This guitar is really really great for the price.
I would surely buy another if this one had a problem (i.e. if it was stolen or broken, etc...).
I really love the shape of its body and the sounds you can get out of it.
I think i'll keep it for a long time. This thin neck is really going to help me improve my technique, I think...

Made in the U.S.A, made in 2003, 22 frets. Special coting because the body is made of luthite. Volume, Tone, 5 Way selector. EMG Custom pickups. h/s/h. Luthite body, Maple neck. Floyd rose tremelo system. Locking tuners. Tools included.

i use a variety of styles, and this suits every one of the styles. The bridge pickup gives a warm sound with lots of power. The neck pickup is softer. No dislikes about it.

i bought it second hand, but foxs set it up for me, great low action, but not too low. The 12 fret G and B string neeted to be stoned because the note wouldnt play.

playing for 2 years, i also own a marshall 100hdfx and a boss modelling wah pedal. I would buy another, i think it is a really reliable piece of equipment. The EMG pickups do it for me and the unusual shape and colour. The make was also the same as that used by the guy from CKY.

made in 2003 in japan (i think), 22 frets, 5 way selector 1 volume, 1 tone, really nice H S H pickup set up, EMG pick ups, kinda strat shape but sleaker and sexier, nice floyd rose system, jumbo frets with wizard II neck, mine came with a hard case

Sound : 10
the most versatile guitar i have played, ranges from jazz - metal, nice sustain on the high notes, a beast of an axe!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
the action was set perfect, pick ups were adjusted well, no bodges, all properly done to a very high quality, not flaws that i have found yet

Reliability/Durability : 9
it will easily hack live playing and stun the crowd, the hardware seemed great, the paint will chip easier than other guitars, but if you treat it good, it'll be fine, the strap buttons were a problem but easy and chaep 2 change, very reliable, i most probably would play a gig without a backup

Made in 02 i think in Korea. It has 22 frets plus a volume and tone button. It also has a thin wizard II neck and a 5-way pickup selector. (The pickups designed by EMG).
It has a sweet luthite body (mine is JBF colour which is gorgeous). The bridge on mine is actually ibanez made instead of some of the floyd rose most others have.
Has a locking trem which can and cant b a pain.

Sound : 10
I wud imagine this guitar can suit pretty much every style of music, as sounds from acoustic 2 heavily distorted can b acheived. I am usin a peavey rage 158 atm, which is ok but not amazin, howeva the sounds r still incredible.
Wot i particularly like about the sound is the smooth low one u hear wen this guitar is on any setting at all. It suits the style of music i prefer. So ther we go. A lot of variety.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action was not bad at all. Although it may hav bin wen it left the factory, the shop i got it from made sure it was all in tune and that the action was ok, which was great.
I can't find ne flaws at all on this guitar. It plays and looks like a dream. Even the plastic strap buttons seem 2 b coping although nething cud happen...

Reliability/Durability : 8
I personally believe that if this guitar cant withstand live playing, none can. It is such a strong long-lasting instrument. However, if the strap buttons do giv up on me, i suppose ill b wrong.
I feel this is a reliable guitar and i cant c the finish goin newher. For the price and quality of the name, i really cant c this guitar being easy 2 wear off.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Havent needed 2 touch em. Which i guass is a good thing.

Overall Rating : 10
I also own a peavy rapture which doesnt live up 2 the standard of my ibanez at all, although it is very reliable too. I wud not hesitate 2 get this same guitar if nething happened 2 it. I love the colour and finish, they help round of a beautiful guitar.
I sometimes wish ther was an easy way to change it 2 drop-d in a matter of seconds, however the locking trem proves this impossible.
I like the fact i got it on a buy now pay 6 months l8er deal, as it helps a lot with gettin the money 2gether.
Oh yea and notice how "ergodyne" has the word "god" in it. I think this may b how it got its name?...

Ibanez EDR470EX, made in Korea probably 2001 or early 2002 (I bought it summer 2002). It has 22 Jumbo frets on a fairly thin Wizard II neck, luthite body, which has a really nice tone - I was trying some RG's then I played this & the difference is amazing! Standard volume & tone knobs, and 5-way pickup selector for the H-S-H EMG designed pickups. The tremelo on mine is a Lo-TRS II, which stays in tune very well, I think the current models have a different tremelo though. It's a locking system which adds to the tuning stability but can make string changing take longer than normal!

Sound : 10
I've had this guitar for almost a year now, & in that time I've tried to get a vast range of sounds out of it - in almost all cases I've been successful and it's sounded great!! The only thing you cant get 100% is a twangy strat sound but that's to be expected from a guitar like this. The middle single coil pickup does a good job though for that sort of thing.
I play it through a Marshall AVT100 (plus Crybaby wah, Boss DD-5 delay & CS-3 compressor/sustainer) which means I've got loads of settings to play with, and you really can get a massive range of sounds out of it - it's very versatile.
Overall the tone is very rich, good for getting Satriani type lead tones, & the sustain is excellent for this style of guitar. The tone is what made me buy this guitar - it sounds great!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
When I first bought it the set up on the tremelo wasn't perfect, and there was a small amount of fret buzz, but I took it back to the shop and they gave it a full set up free of charge - and now it's set up properly it's fine. The action is set quite low on mine & it's very smooth which makes it excellent for lead (although it's just as good playing rhythm!). The pickups have always been fine.

Reliability/Durability : 8
The only problem I have with this guitar is the tremelo arm - it's a screw-on arm which has a nut to tighten it in place while the arm is still free to move - and the nut comes undone very easily which makes the arm feel loose. Although I think the problem might just be me not tightening it enough! And also I think the current models have a different tremelo so this problem might not exist anymore. One last problem is the strap buttons (which have been mentioned elsewhere here too), they're made of plastic and if you put your guitar down on the floor too hard - crack! The bottom one on my guitar broke, and although it's some kind of double screw arrangement on the original one I've fitted a single screw metal strap button and haven't had any problems.
Apart from that I'm 100% sure this guitar would withstand serious live playing, and could easily be used without a backup.... while hoping you don't break a string!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with Ibanez but the shop I bought it from was very helpful & gave me a free set-up.

Overall Rating : 10
Overall rating - it's great! Perfect for what I want to use it for - all types of rock & metal plus some softer stuff when I'm in the mood! Would definitely buy one again, unless I had the money for a Jem! :)

Features : 8
British built Ibanez EDR470ex
22 frets
Solid Luthite body, moon shadow flat finish (cool light blue)
HSH configeration - says "designed by EMG" but they're passive so i assume they're based on the EMG HZ's
Ibanez TRS II Locking Trem
I would give this a nine but i've grown to hate Locking Trem's

Sound : 9
My music style is a mixture of everything from blues to Screaming Metal and usually this guitar can provide exactly what i need
I use the Neck bucker for acoustic work, the single coil for blues and the bridge bucker for the distorted stuff. You can get some excellent tones out of this guitar is you fiddle with the tone pot and the pickup configurations
I use a marshall AVT275 and the Ibanez can usually make this amp cook very well. Yet it lacks a certain PUNCH which i need for some heavy stuff. You can't pinch harmonics on this guitar very well simply because the pickups outputs isn't that high. I was thinking about changing the pickups to EMG 81's but theres no real space in the back of the guitar for active electronics so i just bought a new one

Action, Fit, & Finish : 3
The action was awful when i got it, over half an inch off the board, but i managed to alter it down to a good height with the handy alan keys that Ibanez included with this guitar. No fret buzzing no its been lowered either
I cannot find any finish imperfections, so no worries there
I severely dislike the locking trem, simply because it creates difficulty while changing the strings and when changing string guages you have to basically take the guitar apart and alter every aspect of the mechanics in the trem. I'm changing my guitar to a fixed bridge now, the locking trem isn't worth the trouble

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've played this thing live many times and it was worked very very well. I've smashed the headstock against walls (by accident obviously) and it hasn't affected the sound at all, barely scraped the finish, very impressive

Customer Support : No Opinion
No clue, never dealt with them

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing for a good 7 years now. Along with my Marshall AVT275 i own a Boss MT-2 distortion pedal and a crybaby. This guitar was sounding quite muddy lately but i changed the strings a few days ago and now it really does sing.
I have had some good gigs with this guitar, it's got me through many hard times and has never broken down on me, if it wasn't for the floating trem i'd upgrade the pickups and keep it, but there ya go. If this guitar had a les paul style tune-o-matic bridge then i would carry this guitar to the ends of the earth, but unfortunately thats not the case. A good player, the floyd rose robs it of a 10

Features : 7
luthite body, locking trem (floyd rose), thin neck, volume and tone pots, made in korea 2002,a kind of shiny but dull finish very nice, passive pickups, pickups have designed by emg printed on them so my guess is they are emg, 22 frets, ibanez case (very cool), strat style body, fretboard rosewood and maple neck

Sound : 7
at the moment i am playing it through a marshall MG30DFX it sounds beautiful on the neck pickup with a bit of gain and volume crankend up but the i am not to keen on the bridge as now and again i like to play van halen licks and screaming harmonics which is a bit hard to acheive, maybe its my amp i dunno. there are endless tones to this attractive guitar but i find it a bit mellow for my kind of playing

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
when i first played it the action was terrible (way to high) i had it set down and did a bit of adjusting myself and now the action is great. everything else is perfect apart from the floyd rose which always goes out of tune if you dont tighten the nuts to the limit, i have alredy stripped the threads off one screw. i have noticed that on the 12th fret on the g string there is fret buzz, i have had to higher the tremelo system to get rid of it

Reliability/Durability : 6
i would never use this live as you can never predict when its going to go out tune or when the strings are going to snap. once you get into a groove the playing is great though

Customer Support : No Opinion
never had to

Overall Rating : 7
this guitar is great, but before buying think about the amount of time it takes to tune up and change strings, thats the mistake i made.i have been playing for three years and i am 14 but i know what i am doing with guitars and everyone says i am a prodigy. i have just bought an epiphone explorer but it plays like a gibson. if i could change this guitar i wouldn't it just takes time to play in and get used to the trem is a bit difficult at the moment but that will fix itself in time. good guitar but takes time to get used to

Every thing is good

Except the strap... really baaaad ! i've changed them for Fender Strap Lock, much better!

the body is heavy, the paint is beautiful (grey).
The floyd is set to high, don't worry, it's easy to adjuste

Sound : 9
The sound's really good!
that sounds really clean compared to my ex-EXSeries
i've tried it with a JCM2000 DSL-401 from Marshall, and that blows !
a Pro-Fender friend said that Ibanez can't do good clean sound, but after trying my Ergodyne, he was astonished.
It can produce really beautiful clean sound, and about Distorsion... don't worry, with a GT-6, it's powerful.

I think, i'll try some Dimarzio (Paf-Pro or Evolution) :')
so, i can't give it a 10

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
A broken Strap
nothing else to say

Reliability/Durability : 9
now that i have Real Strap Lock,
i can say you can play with it in live concert in secure
with the weight of the body, that look solid.

Customer Support : No Opinion
don't know

Overall Rating : 9
Especially for its price, that destroys every thing ! lol
any one who have seen my guitar have fallen in love with, what a sexy body ! i really like it.
i'll keep it a long long time, i think i'll put some Dimarzio pickups, that will last longer.

It's the perfect guitar for the price, and bear in mind that you can upgrade the pickups (excellent body for resonance), then your Pokemon will become a Monster ! :'?

The edr470ex is great value for money, it looks so damn sweet and has the new emg pickups that its pre-decessor lacked... as you would imagine the emgs give it a good sound for lead and rythem.

5 way pickup selector, H-S-H configuration...all very lovely except some people find that the single in the middle can get in the way.

The luthite body is good for sustain on those high notes.

Floyd rose, a nice touch.

Dragged down by the s**t plastic strap locks.

Sound : 10
It sounds brilliant, great for lead and rythem tones. It has a nice bright sound.

A great sounding guitar at 450 pounds sterling rrp.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
I found the Factory set up was really crap on the floyd...the springs were slack as if they'd been taken out of an old used guitar, however this is easily sorted. As a consiquence of the floyd not being set up properly (it was slightly raised) the action was quite high.

there was a slight defect on the 2nd/3rd fret by the high E string...the were a couple of tiny bits of varnish on the very edge of the fret board, not enough to effect playing at all.

The plastic strap locks are a major pain in the ass if you are in any way active in the way you play...comsidering that the luthite body is a little heavier than a wooden body having plastic strap locks was a really stupid mistake by ibanez.

Appart from all of that, with a few tweaks its a great guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Once the strap locks have been changed I think it can be used to gig.

The finish is really nice but where my arm rests when i play sitting down the mat/oil finish has rubbed off into a shiny gloss finish almost, (no colour difference, just shiny).

Customer Support : No Opinion
Ive never delt with ibanez due to faults...

However I ordered this guitar in late july and it took till mid december to arrive! Not exactly great delivery speeds...im fairly convinced ibanez only employ one man to deliver the guitars and unfortunately the man has no arms or legs... :P

Overall Rating : 9
Over all this is (with a few minor tweaks) a really sweet guitar, very good value for money. Before i ordered it i wish i had enquired about the ibanez delivery man.

I compared this guitar with maverick x-1 / x-2....the JS100 (which i really liked but decidedat the time to upgrade amp at the same time so funds did not stretch to the price of the JS). etc etc

The edr won over all competition due to value for money, looks and feel.

I may at some point fit a JS neck to it because it is simply one of the nicest necks ive ever played.

Made in 2002 in Japan, has 22 frets, has a volume and tone nobs and has a five way pickup selector.it comes with awsome BMG pickups in an H-S-H arangement. its got the Luthium body with just longs to be stroked and staired at.equiped with the floyed rose floting trem, it really has no boundrys.

Sound : 10
what ever the style of music im playing, the EDR470EX give the creem lead guitar solos while alson producing the heavy rhythm parts, and also by changing the pickups being used, gives a nice gibson sound and the fuck sounds of a fender stratocaster. what a machine!!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
it did need some setting up at the tremolo but other than that i can't complane

Reliability/Durability : 10
It can take anything you throw at it on a live gig, it wouldnt even cross my mind taking a spare guitar.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never needed to cantact ibanez

Overall Rating : 10
its running through a Crybaby Wah Wah, then a Korg toneworks effects machine, and into the two marshall 4x12 cabs with the marshall valve head amp.

I wont go into features as there the same throughout the board... 22 frets, H-S-H, locking trem etc.. and Ohh that body! Mines a 2002 silver number purchased in England straight after it came out. All the features are great bar one... its got a Vai/Satch vibe and so really needs 24 frets.

Sound : 10
The sounds produced by the EMGs are good, really good but lack that certain something. However at this price that isnt an issue. You have two options, you either put good pickups on a guitar and flog it at a value for money price or you put top notch gear on there and charge the earth whilst still restricting someone to a certain sound, so I say go with the first and have some change to customize it. Ive fitted a Paf Pro on the neck and a Vai Evolution at the bridge which really makes this thing squeal like a pig (I like it). I think the luthite body helps with the bright sustain yet still theres plenty of low end grumble if your into that. This aside the original pickups were still very good and that price (450 sterling) you cant complain.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The guitar is absolutely flawless bar one little niggle which is the locking nut. Ive got a real sharp edge (and I mean sharp) where it clamps the top E string so any first fret magic results in a cat scratch across the first fingers nuckle. Apart from that I cant complain, Except those F*#king strap buttons but I,ll save that...

Reliability/Durability : 7
Right, lets get to those buttons... I read a review here before I bought her and someone said the buttons suck. I thought what a clumsey idiot, take abit of care, and then I got her home.... I had a play for about half an hour, sat it down and then watched in horror as the strap button snapped (its made of plastic). Two months later and the front one went! Now that aint a problem as I wanted to replace them anyway but the F$#king rear one is held to tthe body by two bloody screws. I think when Ibanez made this guitar they didnt realise what a proper piece of kit they were creating and that some people might want to A) Take it out of there bedroom and onto a stage and B) keep it for more than six months. So I now have to pay aluthier to block one of the holes and sprat the damn thing. Sort it out Ibanez. Just cos we dont have the money for a chromeboy doesnt meen we arent serious enough to put up with sub standard Lego strap buttons.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never used the support as my dealer always deals with my queries but perhaps Ibanez could use some support from people who actually gig these babies (ie What do you think of the strap buttons)!!
Dont do it again guys cos your breakin my heart.

Overall Rating : 10
The sexiest guitar Ive ever had.. (sold a Jem 555 for it) and dont regret a thing. Im gonna stick LSR tuners on it, Sims LEDS in the neck (blue) and get a donnie F style paint job for her. This guitar can be an absolute monster and a real eye catcher and so despite the god awful strap buttons and the razor blade nut Im giving her a huge ten... The Jem was nice but after the pickup change Ive finally found my soulmate..long live the Ergodyne, (except those F$#king buttons)!!

As far as I know its is the same as the EDR on the Ibanez UK website but with superior EMG designed pickups.

Sound : 7
This guitar is meant for metal music although you can get some pretty nice single coil vintage type sounds from it. I'm only starting out with guitars although Ive been using keyboards since I was 3 years old. I have a digitech RP200 which is OK but not brilliant. I run that into my computer so its far from ideal.

The Ibanez site boasts that the EDR can produce both rythm and lead tones although I think this is wrong. The sound always seems to be somewhere in the middle which is ok if thats your thing.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The setup was ok but I had it re-setup and had some power slinkys fitted which changed the sounf a lot. They also made it harder to play.

I can't actually find any floors in the guitar at all to be honest but then I'm not an expert. The matte electric blue finish is very sexy and just invites touching, far better than the gibson satin finish that rubs off in an hour. It looks far more pricey than it actually is.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Never played it live although I doubt it would fail. The tremelo was very loose when I got it so I had this adjusted and the tuners on the bridge seem a bit sensitive.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with Ibanez.

Overall Rating : 8
Like it. Going to buy a fender Jaguar next as thats what Brian Molko uses and he actually is god.

Features : 8
Well, first things first, the Ergodyne EDR470EX-MWF (made in 2002) is Korean, but, in this case, it doesn?t means much: as some Jems, it is supposed to be among the best Korean-made guitars. And it?s quite good, indeed.
The body is made of Luthite, the same composite, ecological material that comes with Satriani?s Chrome Boy. Although synthetic, it looks and feels like wood, just a little heavier. The neck (rosewood with ebony fingerboard, sleek, fast!) is comfortable, with the correct amount of relief and 22 jumbo frets.
It features a H/S/H configuration, with a volume and a tone knob, 5-way selector, with EMG designed pickups.
The bridge... ok, it?s not perfect. The Lo-Trs II has some problems, and we all know that. But it?s good enough: you can bend, you can slap, you can dive-bomb, you can flutter, but if you are into very, very hard whammy-abuse, it will fail and go out of tune. By the way, the guitar has double-locking system with very good, precise tuners and fine-tuners.

Sound : 9
I play, mostly, strange music: Robert Fripp, Keneally, Zappa, early Steve Vai, Henry Kaiser, Buckethead, Scott Henderson, Brett Garsed. Eventually, I play a bit of jazz, and a tiny bit of shred. I would say that this guitar is a very good choice for the first group, a bad choice for the second and a good choice for the last one.
I play it through a Marshall JCM 800, and it sounds pretty good. These EMG pickups are quite versatile and can produce a wide variety of tones: from the bluesy Fender-sounding (with the single coil) to a hot and plenty of sustain humbucker configuration. The humbuckers are splittable through the selector, which goes: H(bridge); 1/2H(bridge) and S; S only; S and 1/2H(neck); H(neck).
The body, due to the Luthite, gives to this thing a very rich sound in any of the pickups configuration. And, due to its stiffness, weather simply doesn?t affect it.
No hum, no noise, even at high volumes.
For this matter, sound, I like it a lot.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
For this kind of money, the finish is really something. The EDR is impressive, good-looking, well done in the details: almost flawless painting, bracing, fretting, etc. It has silver nickel hardware, the plastic looks like silver as well. It came out of the box ready to play, with mid-low action (about 1.8 mm/treble side). The middle pickup was set up a bit too high (and it was easily adjusted).

Reliability/Durability : 9
Ok, I have bought it two months ago. I can't say it yet, but I think it will last for decades. Just in case: the strap buttons of this one are not made of plastic, but metal, although that was not the case with the other review.
Would I use it on a gig without a backup? No, but I am not confident enough to do that, even with the perfect guitar...

Customer Support : No Opinion
I don?t use it, don?t need it yet. But I have got a one-year warranty from the resaler.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for the last 15 years.
I've owned Ibanez (RG570, JEM7BSB, other Koreans), Fender Strat (American and Mexican) and a Gibson ES335. To my mind, this guitar is one of the best middle-class available: it is definitely better than a Mexican Strat, it is better than any Jackson, Fernandes or Yamaha that I?ve already played on and it's, of course, worse than any high-end model...
All in all, if you play more than one style, need a good, reliable guitar that offers more than one sound, don't need a perfect whammy and don't have US$2000, you can trust this one.
To this day, you have to live outside US in order to buy it. If you want to see it, follow this link:
http://www.ibanez.co.jp/world/guitar/edr/pages/edr470ex.html
That's it.
Thanks!

This guitar is made in Korea and it simply kicks ass.
Having seen no other reviews of it, (Probably due to the fact it isn't currently available in the U.S) I decided to contribute this one.
This is the new version of the original EDR 470 Improvements include EMG pickups in H-S-H configeration and the edition of a low pro trs, Locking strap buttons locking nut e.t.c need I go on!
First of all I would like to say that you just cant get a guitar of this quality and spec from any other manufacturer.

Body:Luthide the same material as joe satriani's aniversary edition chrome boy the shape is amazing. Many old school players will probably frown at this move away from the traditional wood body's but trust me this thing has one crazy amount of tone and it looks sweet as hell.

Neck: Rosewood, 22 frets All in all a well manufactured neck very fast with nice frets.

Pickups: Well I said it EMG's in H-S-H configeration sweet!

Sound : 10
This guitar sounds truly amazing so versatile the tone and volume controls are excellent and really allow you to change your sound and the pickup selector swich allows a huge variety of sounds ranging from jazz tright through to hard rock. Run this thing through an EQ pedal and you are in heaven!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Factory set up ok action was slightly high only thing im unhappy bout is the strap locks they are made of plastic and snap really easily If u set ur guitar down without a stand.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Very reliable no worries here! No tonal variation because its not made of wood! not affected by climate changes.

Overall Rating : 10
Overall this is a kick ass guitar for the money it is so versatile and looks incredible. Due to the fact that the finish is unlaquered it chips slightly more easily than normal finishes but its worth it mine is Jewal blue and it looks fantastic!
