I dont think i can add much to whats already been said here, 2 humbuckers, no tremelo(not that its any good on cheap guitars anyway) not tons of features, but enough for the begginning guitarist
Sound

Awesome! Has a great heavy sound to it, perfect for the kind of music I play (Metallica, AC/DC, etc.), It works really well with the IBZ10G amp that came with it, but i don't know about other amps.

If this guitar were stolen i would cry because they aren't making them anymore, but if i could buy a new one i would buy it. The only major problem is that there is no midrange tone knob

Made in China, year 2003.
22 Medium Frets
Basewood Body
Through Hole Fixed Bridge
Bolt On - Maple GAX Neck
Rosewood Finger Board
2 Standard Double Coil Humbuckers (Neck PU and Bridge PU)
1 Tone Knob, 1 Volume Knob
3 way switch (Neck, Middle, Bridge)
Pearl Dot Inlay
Pickguard
Chrome Hardware
Nothing fancy. Just your average features - but enough to produce a wide variety of sounds. I wouldn't get a guitar with a tremelo bar at this price range, since all of them make your guitar go out of tune.
No complaints.

The 3 way switch and tone knob gives you much versatility (unlike on other guitar which the switch basically does nothing). Ibanez is best suited for metal/rock, but the GAX suprisingly produces a rather decent accoustic sound. Rthym, solo, etc.. it's all open to you.
I have a 20 watt Rocktek amp, but it also came with a standard Ibanez 10 watt practise amp. The practise amp is great for the cheap price - has all the standard features you'd expect, doesn't produce any anmoying noise (unless you put it on overdrive and turn the gain right up). It's better than any squier amp or similar.
The sound of the guitar is not that bright, on the dark side, but not that dark. It CERTAINLY doesn't sound thin at all. A warm bassy tone - my only complaint is that it's a bit too bassy (even muddy) for my liking, but that's just my personal taste. The quality of the sound is a BIT lower than the Epiphone Les Paul 2 (which is more expensive), but on par with the Epiphone SG Special.
It is not noisy at all; overall it provides good sound, especially for the price. Enough stuff for a beginner. It all depends on what amp you plug it into. I'm sure if you just replace the stock pickups with more expensive one's, then it would sound like an absolute $1000 dream.

The guitar was set up well, everything in tune. The action was low, which was good; HOWEVER it caused some annoying fret buzz on certain strings. This can be EASILY fixed though, but I'll leave it to the proffessionals.
Pickups were at a perfect sounding height.
The neck is pretty cool, thin and very easy to play. However it was a bit misligned to the body - doesn't effect anything but it is annoying.
Tuners are el cheapo :), but they do the job.

Withstand live playing? Would I use it on a gig? I have no idea.
The hardware seems sturdy, and the body feels sturdy even though it's basewood. I feel comfortable that the finish will last for a long time, and won't wear off. Won't get scratched easily.

Overall it's a good guitar, and it's made by Ibanez themselves; not by some sub company for newbies (ie. Squier and Ephiphone).
I wish I'd checked the fret buzz when I brought it, and also I wish chose one with the neck properly aligned.
If it were stolen, I would probably save up for a used Fender Stat or Tele.

2003, China, 22frets, Basswood Jewel cut symetrical body, through hole bridge, bolt on maple neck, rosewood fretboard, two standard humbuckers (SHB1, SHB2), 1 volume, 1 tone, 3 way selector switch mounted near knobs, lead plugs into the side of the body, pearl dot, inlays, very large strap buttons, chrome hardware, transparent cherry red color (comes also in Blue and Black opaque colors), big frets, 24.5" scale, black on top with white underneath pick gaurd.
6 because not a whole lot of features, however I like having a single vol and tone which is a point I really like about this particular model as well as the through hole stringing similar to the ASX32.

It is not a dark sounding guitar at all however it is certainly not a thin sounding instrument. Basswood is brighter than mahogany but darker than alder. This is something that is appealing to me as I find my Strat to be a bit bright and when I have owned a Les Paul I found it to be far to dark for my tastes. I have owned an ES335 and prefer sounds along those lines in terms of how dark.
It has a bolt on neck which I am planning to remove to apply a liberal amount of wood glue to it. I have done this on my strat and sustain and bottom end were improved.
I like the bridge pickup pretty much as it is and this is comparing it to my strat which has a Di Marzio megadrive in it. This bridge pickup seems to have a really nice bright yet well rounded sort of tone to my ears at this time. The jury is slightly out on the neck pickup. I realise it is a very inexpensive model and one would expect the pu's to possibly be total shite however they are really not bad.
The puckups are Ibanez standard 1 and 2 humbuckers and are not as hot as the powersound humbuckers in the 70. How hot they are is not that important to me but moreso the tone. When played clean on the neck it gives a well rounded blues or wet jazz sound however it is a little muddy and flat -- now remember it's only been a week and I've been thinking about what to put in the neck for most of that time. It seems to be ok at higher volumes rather than rehersal volumes though which is a good sign.

Factory setup was good, pickups adjusted well, fretwire very well positioned, in fact the neck is a total gem to use. The finish is very nice with a minor blemish in one spot. The transparent red with black pickgard looks very traditional and is the class act color choice showing nice amounts of wood grain. This model does have bargain basment tuners compared to the GAX70, however the 70 has no pickgaurd and no through hole stringing.

Best bit of it??? the neck I think. Well put it this way, when I first played this one it was like I'd been playing it for years. I think the sound is good at times, however I am still getting used to this guitar and the pu's will either have to be changed or I will have to either not play it or just sell it.
Over all it has some very sweet sounds with some drive applied and the clean tones are pretty well rounded and clear (at higher volume) without any changes to the pickups.
