Red translucent finish, agatis or mohogany body?, two cheap humbuckers, Stop tailpeice, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard. tuner are a bit loose when tuning low. Pickups sound like shit. Swapped bridge pickup imediately for a Dimarzzio Mege Drive(discontinued) which sound dark and heavy.

Sound : 9
Play alot of metal and death metal. paired with the dimarzio the sound is clean and crisp. Dark highs and heavy bottom end. suits my needs well and seems to sound better tuned down to D. I play this guitar twice as much as my les paul custom with ceramic pickup. THe sound is less trebly yet has good harmonics.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Body has awesome wood grain and finish. Neck had glue and scratches on the headstock out of the box. Action is perfect for me. not to low. hasn't even been setup since I bought it at Xmas and doesn't seem to need one. Neck is nice and fast compared to my les paul.

Reliability/Durability : 7
I don't play live but it seems like it will take my abuse at home. Neck seems solid but some of the hardware look like it will need to be replaced in the futere.

Don' tKnow

Overall Rating : 8
Compared to my Les Paul which sound good with any type of music, clean or lots of distortion, the ibanez sounds good with metal only. I was dissapointed with it at first since I wanted a Warlock but with an extra $100 or so for new pickups i tmakes up the difference. for $350 canadian I expected nothing from the guitar but has all i need. Mahogany body created good low end but has no maple top so the high are dark. Awesome guitar for price. Good construction with cheap hardware.

Double-cutaway electric guitar, comes in black and transparent red finish (I have the Red, it's nice) 2 Humbuckers, a Tone+Volume for each. And a 3 position toggle switch/pickup selector. 22 Frets. Tuneomatic stye bridge. I've had this one for 2 1/2 years.

Rosewood fingerboard, the neck is cut nice...BUT THIS GUITAR IS VERY HEAVY ON THE HEADSTOCK AS OPPOSED TO THE REST OF THE GUITAR, when I play standing up and let go of the neck, the headstock leans down A LOT. I didn't notice this in the music store, and I hated it at first...but you get used to it after a while, I did have to adjust my playing to the guitar though.

Sound : 5
It has 2 humbuckers, the neck one is pretty much useless by itself...it's too muddy for anyhing. The bridge one is nice and clear, but a little twangy sometimes through some amps i've played it through. I like the selector in the middle (both pickups), just enough clarity and volume without too much twang.

It has a pretty wide range of tones, but not so many useable ones. I play indie rock/melodic emo and punk stuff, the pickups are nice and hot, quite enough to get plenty of gain...but they still sound pretty good on clean.

For under $200 new you pretty much have Squier strats, Epipiphones, and no name guitars...Ibanez really kills anything else in the @$200 price range with this thing in my opinion. It doesn't sound, play, feel, or look like a $200 guitar...I get a decent amount of compliments on it and people are always really surprised with how much I paid.

For $200 i'd give it a 10...but I hate how everything on here has a 10 so i'll give it a 5 so people read why.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
As I said before the headstock on this thing is HEAVY and makes the guitar tip that way when you let go. It takes some getting used to because you have to use some effort to keep it up straight when you play standing up...it just takes a little getting used to.

In terms of quality, the finish is great, the wood for the body is a little soft, it dents a little easy and i've had to tighten knobs a few times, the neck feels really nice to play on, nice and smooth. Cut just the right angle and size, not too think, not too thin.

The action is great, just right for what I do...with the tuneomatic adjustments are a little tough, but it hasn't really needed anything major.

Again for $200 i'll give it a 10 but...

Reliability/Durability : 6
Haven't had any major problems yet...some loose knobs, strap nuts came loose. What do you expect, I beat on this thing pretty hard, the finish is holing up fine, there's a little corrosion on the metal part of the pichups but that's about it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them

Overall Rating : 10
For the money this thing is amazing...better then anything else in it's price range...The heavy headstock takes some getting used to. But I like how it plays, and how it sounds. I would buy another...

I would probably pick it over a lot of more expensive guitars based on how it sounds and how it plays. GREAT starter guitar, and a great guitar for someone who wants something decent but can't afford anything expensive. I've been playing for like 9 years but i'm really poor (college student) so this was perfect for me.

1999 Made in Indonesia, 22 frets, solid mahogahany body, nice transparent red finish, 2 volume 2 tone, 3 way selector, 2 Powersound Humbuckers, looks like an double cut LP, stop tailpiece, non-locking tuners, pretty thin neck compared to my old guitar, and it came with a hardshell case

Sound : 8
I play hardcore and punk rock, it works pretty well for that, sounds good through my little Randall 15 watt with a Soundtank tubescreamer, but it sounds freaking rad through my friend's Fender RocPro head with a metalzone in front of it, pretty full sound, and decent tonal variety, not that I need it much because I spend most of my playing time palm-muting heavy stuff

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The guitar is fine, I needed a little repair work because of a shorted wire, but since then I've had no problems with it

Reliability/Durability : 8
Well, I used this guitar for a grind show and it held up through the whole tortorous time with the only problems being a couple broken strings, strap buttons aren't too great, so I plan on getting straplocks, and yes, I would use it without a backup since my other guitar (peavey predator) is dead

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 8
I've been playing for about 3 years, and I own a cheap acoustic, a peavey predator, a Randall RG-15 10" combo, and an Ibanez tubescreamer, if somebody stole my guitar I would hurt them because I love this thing...and I would probably upgrade to the AX120 if I had the cash to do that...

Body -The Ibanez Gax 70 has a nice crystal cut body that feels great in the hands.
Pickups - Ibanez Powersound Humbuckers
Neck - 22 fret rosewood

3 way tone switch with 2 volumes and 2 tones.

Sound : 9
The sound on this guitar is pretty good. I use it through a Kustom 80 watt amp with a Dod Grunge, Boss Ch-1 Chorus, and a Dod gs-30. The tone is nice compared to some other guitars that I have used like my yamaha pacifica. I mean its not a PRS or Gibson, but for the money you can't go wrong. I can get great clean tones and awesome distortion. Simply put, This guitar is a great buy for the money.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I love the feel of this guitar. Very fast and has a great feel to it. The action is just right for me. Havent had to adjust anything.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I've played 2 live gigs with this guitar and it was great. The only thing that happened was the input jack got unscrewed and fell back into the guitar. No biggie just took off the panel, pulled it back out and screwed it back in.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had to use them yet.

Overall and great guitar and a best buy for the money.

Most normal features of a guitar with humbuckers.

Sound : 8
Sound is pretty good. Kinda thick. I wish the sound was cleaner.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Everything came good, but it's very hard to get adjusted to, because if you let go of the neck it tips a bit. You kinda have to hold it.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Very durable hasn't broke down yet.

I haven't dealt with them.

I really like the look of this guitar! It's is a pretty desent guitar and worth the money.

Been playing too long, whish these guitars were around in my days, seem more reliable. If it were stolen I would cry like a baby report it to my insurance co. and use that money to bid on hendricks guitar on e-bay. Great guitar for the money.

2 double hums, volume and tone for each, 3 position switch (top pickup, bottom pickup, both). The tuners stay in tune. A cool aspect is that when one volume is all the way down, the middle position acts as an 'off'... very convenient.

Sound : 9
I got it close to new in 2000, and I was amazed at the sound you could get out of $150! I don't play anything clean, so I can't judge... but it takes to distortion like a fish to water.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Store setup, good setup. only flaw is the nutorious hi E getting stuck under the frets.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I've had this thing for about a half a year, and gigged with it quite a few times and havent had any troubles since.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Dont ask, dont tell.

Overall Rating : 9
I like it and if somebody stole it i wouldn't notice the $150 missing from my wallet when I went to get another. In fact, I would give it a 10 on cost alone, but there are times when you can see why it didnt cost much, but not often.

Price Paid: US $28 plus trade in on old peavey tele copy
Submitted 01/24/2001 at 11:47am by kevin

Features : 8
made in 98. Traded a peavey tele copy for it. Has a nice maple neck with 22 fret rosewood board. Mine has a transparent red finish. Has dual hummers and volume controls, treble and bass. Tuners are alright but I'll probably replace 'em soon cuz they're about worn out. Has a nice double cutaway body and a tune-o-matic/stopbar bridge.

Sound : 10
Simply put, this thing rocks. Well, at least it does now. When I got it I was just happy to finally have a good dual hummer guitar. about a year later I finally got around to replacing the pickups in it. I stuck a pair of DiMarzios in it, PAF Pro neck and Evolution bridge, and now the tone is just incredible. Amazing the difference that good pickups can make. It turned this $200 budget ax into one hell of a rhythm machine. I run it through two different rigs. My practice/small show rig is an early 80's yamaha 2x12 combo with a boss EQ pedal and a boss metal zone for distortion. My performance rig is a randall warhead amp and a peavey 412M cabinet. Suits my hard edged, loud rock tunes very nicely. It's definitely worth all the money I spent on it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
was set up pretty nice when I got it and it's even better now

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've had this guitar for 3 years. It's been dropped and bumped and nothing is wrong with it except for a few small knicks in the finish. Replaced the input jack about a year ago because I dropped it and bent up the plug on the cable and the jack, but it still works fine now. This was my only electric for almost three years until I got my Talman, which I'm in the process of hot rodding. I'd definitely keep using the GAX without a backup if I needed to because it's never let me down.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never dealt directly with Ibanez. It had a warranty but I think that's expired already but that's ok. I work on it myself or take it to a tech to fix anyway.

Overall Rating : 10
This guitar is the first I've owned that I didn't have a problem with. All three of the guitars I had before it were strat or tele copies with single coils. I wanted I fatter sound so I got this one. First Ibanez guitar I bought and it definitely won't be the last. I've already bought a Talman and I plan on getting an Iceman and I'm looking for an old Destroyer and one of the weird ass pointy looking ones from the X series back in the 80's. I may buy some other guitars but I will definitely always have more Ibanez guitars than any other because, simply put, they just kick ass.

Quickly, three piece agathis body, dual humbuckers, two volume and two tone controls. Mine is butterscotch transparent finish. Nice neck with so-so tuners.

Sound : 7
I bought this guitar pretty much on a whim since it was so cheap ($189). Played it acoustically and it seems to have a kind of natural reverb to it which I thought was sort of nice. Wrong. With distortion this guitar is actually pretty amazing for the price but playing clean it is annoying because the reverb sound doesn't go away. I'm not really sure what causes it either. I don't think the pickups suck but I did change them to duncan 59's expecting to improve the clean sound. It didn't exactly do what I expected. Instead the distorted sound on power chords and rythym improved dramtically making this cheapo an excellent rythym axe. unfortunately the clean sound is actually worse. Not at all what I expected. Playing thru a peavy classic 50 4-10 the distortion is nice with controllable feedback. Played thru my hot rod deluxe the clean is somewhat fuller and more bluesy but still not what I wanted. Distortion still good though. All in all for the money it's good. Love the neck. Even after adjusting the bridge saddle all the way back I'm still not able to get the intonation perfect on the third string. At first it would not stay in tune for more than a couple of bends but while installing the new pickups I filed the nut angle a little more on the third string and it solved most of those problems.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
Factory set up was fair on intonation. Pickups adjusted well. Top not bookmatched at all (didn't really expect that for the price). Frets are a guess medium jumbo and filed nicely. Nut poorly cut. Too deep and improper angle. Finish was and is excellent. Pickup selectors work fine. No noise when switching. Volume pots are not too linear though. When restringing I used Ernie Ball hybrid slinkys and while the strings were off I noticed that all!! the tuners were loose at the lock down nuts. Some so much that the tuner actually swiveled around. I tightened those and that may have influenced the staying in tune as much as the nut slotting. Also tightened the phillips screw on the tuning pegs on a couple of tuners. Soldering seemed OK but the wire gauge used on the pots and switches was tiny. I raised the tune-0-matic bridge up on the treble side trying to get rid of a little fret buzz with no sucess. May have to adjust the truss rod a little. Seems to be well made but assembled poorly.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Seems reliable enough. Huge strap buttons.

Overall Rating : 6
Been playing off and on since forever I think. I have several telecasters and acoustics of varying brands and pickup configurations. What I wish is that I could afford the guitars I really want instead of making do. What I really love about this guitar is the neck and the playability. This is really a great beginners guitar which is probably exactly what it was intended for. The stock pickups are OK but not great. If my playing were better I would invest in something that was quality but I bought it to change things around on anyway. They really need to do something about the tuners and nut though. The worst thing one can do besides playing too much is to play out of tune.

I love playin this guitar the sounds is so nice..like id use my GRX and it would sound like poo than I plug in my GAX it sounds 10X better. This is a very good Guitar for its price. I run through a Marshall G100rcd head then that to a Sonic 4x14(I think) And i use a rogue equelizer .. to give it more bass and a RP100 Digi tech effects procesor and then for my distorion I use Bossmetalzone..
