It looks kind like a SG shape, it has 19 frets (jumbo), 2 stock passive humbuckers, 3 way selector (it sucks, got fucked up the second day)The body is basswood (i think), the neck is maple with rosewood fretboard, each pickup has its volume and tone control.

Sound : 7
This guitar is for nothing else than playing jazz or blues, not for punk or heavy. The guitar is very quiet with distorsion, it has a richfull sound in the neck pickup and not to bright sound in the bridge. I think it need more output volume and needs a lot more tone definition!.. it's very fucked up to tune..

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
The guitar set up of the factory sucked!!! the painting finish is regular, nothing from outside this planet...

Reliability/Durability : 7
This guitar will last, very very long! but it doesn't worth the last if you don't have the sound you like, the strap buttons are solid, a person can depend on it but it gets detuned very easily, it's very dificult to calibrate.

It's a 1999, in very nice looking transparent red finish. It has 22 frets, 2 of Ibanez's "Powersound" humbuckers, 2 tones, 2 volumes, 3 way selector switch. Pretty solid strap buttons. Ibanez says the body is made of Agatis...I'm not exactly sure if that is good or bad, but is a pretty solid feeling guitar, so I'm happy. The neck is maple, the fretboard is rosewood. It's has pretty decent tuners for a low end guitar also.

Sound : 10
The sound of this guitar is excellent for heavy music. If you like lighter rock or country type music, it might not be the right axe for you. But it's very good for nice heavy rock sound, sounds a lot like an SG to me. I'm usually running through a little Vox Pathfinder 15 watt amp, so I'm sure I have yet to hear it's full potential. It is not a noisy guitar at all.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Well...the action isn't perfect, but for $190 it's pretty good. The action is good and low, but it does get fret buzz around the 11th fret. Probably could be setup a little better at the factory, but it's not bad. The finish looks excellent, and everything is put together good and tight. Very solid.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I haven't had a problem yet, seems reliable to me. I'd gig without a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't dealt with them.

I've only been playing a little over a year, and this is only my second guitar. But I'm very happy with it so far. If something happened to it, and I had to buy an guitar for under $300, I would get another.

this one has a transparent red finish it really nice..the volume and tone knobs are are a bit loose aswell as the toggle switch..has 22 frets and a over all nice feel...its a very light guitar im sure it does not weight much...came with a cord, allen wrech for truss rod ajustment..has a really cool stop tail piece..non-locking tuners..at first glance a very nice guitar..kinda reminds me of a gibson SG..

Sound : 8
it has a overall good sound.. i havent got any uncontrolable feedback. im using a jcm 800 marshall head with tube work cabs...and a rp6 from digitech for a nice full distortion.. i replaced the strigs with 10s... for a light guitar it has balls...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
see this guitar would rock in my opinon but when it comes to this section i gotta say this is where i stated thinking "SO THIS IS WHY IT WAS ONLY $199...well when i tried it out at the store i noticed that when i would hit maybe 2 - 2 1/2 step bends that string would go out of tune..first i thought it was the tuners and all i would have to do is tighten them when i got home..or maybe the strings were new and were not really broken-in...when i got home i realized it was the nut..it was not letting the string slide back and fourth after i released from a bend..i went over the nut groves with a pencil to let the string glide a bit smother so far thats helped alot...after playing awhile i noticed it needed to be intonated properly...so...im kinda upset with this section....it took me awhile to get the intonation to a decent standard...

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
this would be a great back up look nice and sounds good...not sure about staying in tune...

This guitar is made in indonesia it is a Humbucker, Humbucker with 22 frets. Made in early 1999 it kicks buttox alot. Laminated top cheapest of the Ax series but playes well. Toggle switch is cheap and machine heads are a little loose but nice thin (Classic Ibanez) neck. It is a black finish I gig with it and it has not failed yet.

Sound : 9
I like the Alternative Rock sound. I play it through a Fender 30w sidekick switcher with a 12 inch speaker, and a Boss metal zone distortion and a dunlope crybaby wah. It does feed a bit but not as bad as my first guitar. It is good for a bassy sound but can produce treble. It is a unevenly weighted guitar..................Yeah. I like the acess though.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The action is good for it's price but compared to other more exspensive models it holds it's own. They lean with the strings and they don't sit very loose as some humbuckers do. The bridge had a few burs in it wich caused some breaking of the strings.

Reliability/Durability : 8
It gigs excelent. The hardware is good but the machine heads are a little loose for my liking. The finish is decent. The strap buttons are definitly as hard as a rock. I gig with it but prefer a backup

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never molested them.

It is good.

This Indonesian made Agathis bodied guitar is one of the best values for it's price. It's stocked with two volume and two tone for the two Powersound humbuckers. It has a graphite nut, rosewood fretboard, and maple neck. It's stacked with 22 frets with a slight limit of access to the higher frets.

Sound : 10
This guitar kicks Ass. At $160; Used it is one of the best instruments i've played. My setup consists of a Fender Roc Pro 1000 Combo and a digitech whammy-wah pedal and I have one of the best tones around. The pickups are reasonably quite, and the guitar sounds great clean and distorted. With a style ranging from jazz to rock to hardcore and funk this guitar delivers. It beats my old Epiphone Flying V. The tonal range is all the way from buried in the sand to right up inside your ear.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Since it was used I can't tell how it was set up after the factory was done. The pickups were the proper height. The finish is a beautiful Transparent cherry red while it also comes in Butterscotch and Black. The over all quality is pretty miracolous compared to the underpriced value.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar definitely kicks at live shows. The finish just picks up all the light leaving this guitar glistening and shinning. The hardware is a little loose particularly the tone and volume pots but nothing a little screwdriver couldn't fix. This guitar is extremely dependable and definitely needs no backup. It stays in tune reasonable well no matter if you shredding and bending up two steps or hitting some rythm playing. I never have to worry about this falling apart on me.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them. Never needed any repairs.

This is Ibanez's version of the Gibson SG. Let me tell you straight up... I've been playing for over 25 years and have owned countless guitars over the years. This guitar is a basic, everyday, guitar and it kicks! 3 position switch, HH HH, 22 frets. Maple neck, rosewood fretboard, tune-o-matic bridge and stop bar. Beautiful transparent red finish. Made in Indonesia and is real good quality too for the price.

Sound : 10
This guitar has the sound and feel of an SG. It's that simple. I play all styles of music thru my old Fender Super tube amp and this guitar does the job. There is no coil split switch, so the single coil Strat sound is out of the question. But I also play my beloved Fender Strat and love the single coil "strat tone". But you see... A Strat can't sound like an SG. And an SG can't sound like a Strat. I have the best of both worlds here. When I want to get the nasty "crunch" sound, the GAX70 delivers. The sound is amazing either clean or dirty.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action was perfect right out of the box. The tuners were a tiny bit too loose for my tastes, so I tightened the little phillips screw on the end of the tuning knob, and everything is fine. The finish of the guitar is fantastic! It is one beautiful guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is very reliable and durable. I wouldn't want to get rough with it (because the finish is so beautiful). I mean, who in their right mind could take a guitar and do a "Pete Townsend impression"???? I can depend on this guitar to give me the humbucker "crunch" sound that I need when I need it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with Ibanez before.

Overall Rating : 10
This is a heck of a guitar for the money. Like I said earlier, I've been playing over 25 years and owned tons of different guitars over the years. My first and foremost favorite guitar is the Fender Strat (which I own and will never get rid of). This GAX70 is a great accompaniment to my Strat. If I'm playing clean/overdriven country-rock or Jimi Hendrix/Clapton blues, I play the Strat. If I want to get down and dirty with straight forward "crunch", I'll grab the GAX70 and rock. If something ever happend to the GAX70, I'd get another one. It is a very sweet guitar for the money. I still can't believe the tone/sound/feel of it for only $189. It boggles the mind, y'know?

Made in early 1999, 22 frets, solid top, 2 tone controls, 2 volume controls, 3-way pickup selector, H/H configuration Agathis body, Maple neck, Rosewood fretboard, Butterscotch transparent finish, Double cutaway SG like body, Tune-O-Matic bridge, basic but funtional features.

Sound : 10
I play blues stuff, Jimi Hendrix, acoustic stuff, nirvana, green day, but mostly Smashing Pumpkins stuff. It sounds great to suffient for all those sounds. I use a GFX-15 amp by crate and some wah pedal. Can sound like a les paul or a strat, I even got it to sound like a tele' by picking next to the bridge.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The action was to low for my tastes but other than that the setup was perfect.

Reliability/Durability : 7
It's pretty tough but I'd never play without a backup ( in case of the impossible). The tuners are worth replacing, bit if you put your strings on properly and tighten the tuning pegs you should be fine.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never molested them.

For a year I have been playing guitar and bass.So far out of the low end guitars I've played this is as good if not better than washburn and epiphone axes I've tried.Squier, peavey, and others are not even worth playing.

Probably made 1999 in either Japan or Korea. Not sure. It has 22 frets solid body. It has 2 humbuckers that are wired like a les paul, volume and tone for each and a selector switch to select 1 pickup, both, or the other. Passive elecrtonics. Neck wood: 1 piece maple Body: Agatis. The colors are either black, transparent red, or transparent butterscotch. Ibanez says the body is designed as a GAR. But I would describe it as having double cut-aways kind of like a Les Paul SG. The cut-aways are a little smaller than a Les Paul SG. The bridge is tune-o-matic. The machine heads are non-locking. The neck is maple and the fretboard is rosewood. No pickguard. I would simply describe it as Ibanez's cheap version of a Les Paul Sg. Simply because of the body shape, the head stock, where there is 3 machine heads on one side, the double humbuckers, the way they are selected, and the tone and volume pot for each pickup. Very cheap guitar for the quality!

Sound : 9
The sound of the guitar is amazing! It will play just about any type of style you like. By turning the nobs and the switch, you can give it a grunge, jamiacan, metal, punk, and ska sound. I personaly like playing punk and ska, it is wonderful. I play through a Peavey Envoy 110 using the on-amp distortion. I can get different types of distortion without even touching the amp nobs. Just a flip of the switch and a turn of the tone nob can change the style and sound of the guitar. The guitar is generaly not noisy, it has humbuckers. It does in fact feed back if the bridge pickup is being used and you stand in front of the amp. It feeds a little more than my Encore Strat copy, but if you just stand there and mute the strings, it is silent. The guitar is sooo bright and full sounding. I think it is mainly the fact that it is not lamenated. It holds notes longer and better than my Encore. I have played a Mexican Strat before and it is a lot better than that!! I think if you were to compare, it lies somewhere between a Mexican and Japanese Strat, more by the japanese. If I am playing a stacato song, or a choppy song, it holds the note nicely. I would explain it as having a lot of natural reverb. Mostly because the body is 1 piece and the pickups are not only vibrating against a pickguard like a strat. The other thing is the fact it has humbuckers, more tone and volume!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The factory set-up was ok. The intonation was crappy, but I intend on fixing that myself. The pick ups are adjusted nicely I don't intend on changing them. The frets were filed well and the shape is great. The bridge and everything is great. I checked the nut and the finish before I bought it, and there aren't any nicks or flaws in the finish. The nut is placed very well. There was a little chip out in the fret board by the nut. I didn't worry too much about it, it isn't going to change the way it plays or the sound. The finish is called trasparent because you can see the wood under the paint. It is really a nice looking guitar. The action is set average, I plan on lowering it a little. I noticed that someone had tilted the neck to lower the action too. Also, the switch is quiet when switching between pickups.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I think you could go live without any backup. It looks pretty reliable. The hardware is strong and looks very good. I opened the back panel and the soldering looked very good and everything was placed well. The finish is very good, I noticed that I am already putting some pickscrapes into the top of it, but they are not as bad as they could be. The strap butttons are screwed in strong. One problem, the top strap button is placed too far in so the guitar is off balance and the headstock dips forcing me to lift it a little. After playing for awhile it can get uncomfortable. They should have installed a button on the back of the neck, that would have been better. That way, the option is there to use either. After awhile, it becomes more comfortable, give it a little time and you will not even notice it is off balance.

Customer Support : 8
This is my first Ibanez. I believe the warranty is 1 year. I haven't had to get it fixed or anything yet. I feel better though that I have a guitar of a company that is actually well known. This way I know information about the guitar. (www.ibanez.com) The store I bought it from is a very reliable store, I get advice and accesories from them. I was originally going to get it from Guitar Center, but they didn't have any and they even had some on order. I would have gotten it from there if they had some. Every where I went it was $199 but I didn't mind paying an extra $10. Now that I think about it, I should have made a deal with them.

Overall Rating : 9
If it were stolen I would get another. It is very reliable, well constructed, and an excellent sounding guitar. I love the shape, sound, and most importantly, the price for the features!
