this guitar was great if you play punk, metal, rock couse it has a heavy sound!!!
i use park amp and tone works ax100g, mashall jackhammer1.
yes, its to much noisy for stage guitar...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
the set up wasn't so bad for practice guitar! hehe...

Reliability/Durability : 7
i don't thing this guitar was that good to play on stage...
i play this guitar only at my room!!!

much better than squier strat!!!

Features : 6
i paid 150 dollars for it since the guy was so convinced on getting me to buy it over a squier bullet and it was worth it when this is a 200$ dollar guitar
Made in China,2008
22 Frets
5-way selector switch,volume, tone,
2 Neck and midlle single-coil pickups, 1 humbucker
Strat-non-inlay amp input-ibanez headstock
thin neck makes it easy to play
i really just picked this guitar off a wall and just came with a tremolo bar, don't be fooled though by the ibanez ijx40 which comes in a value pack because that's a whole different thing

Sound : 8
I play classic rock styles and is perfect for the songs i play
I use a basic marshall 10 watt and i guess it would sound a bit better if i had a better amp, but sounds still pretty good
Neck pickup is very warm and deep, mid pickup is kind of twangy, and the bridge humbucker has a lot of bite(overall not a big conductor of gain)
this guuitar is good for low-gain sounds, so if you play metal, grunge, hard rock, or a lot of rythm guitar you should stay away
I like this guitar because it fits my indie, classic rock sounds but it's missing my powerful.... power chords which i use sometimes, but it's perfect for the other sounds

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
AS far as i can tell it was in need of a bit of a set up, but it was several months between when the guitar was made and when i got i plus i had been messing around a lot with the tremolo bar
No flaws whatsoever

Reliability/Durability : 8
This guitar is a very beginner guitar and i would not play live with it unless it was maybe a small gathering like in a school where noone could tell the difference of the sound
This is not a top rate guitar but it would last enough years as me being a beginner and still be good to sell used
Finish is reliable, and if not at least you have a sexy relicced guitar, straps seem good and sturdy, and i expect it to last pretty good for me, but again it is a budget guitar

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I've been playing about a year and it is pretty good for one's infancy in playing
if stolen i would upgrade, but would be pissed because i would need the money selling this as a used guitar for about 150(i paid 150 as far everyone else thinks it about a 200$ guitar)
I really love the nice thin neck it really gives ease to playing, the mid pickup and bridge humbucker are great, and it really fits my style
I guess compared to the lower-level squier strats its pretty good, but if ur looking at this guitar you should go to a guitar store and try out both the squiers and the ibanez to see which feels and sounds better
If they had just put a humbucker in the neck it would definitely be extremely versatile and a lot better for beginners looking for a strat, it would dominate squier bullets and squier fat stratocasters

Features : 8
Features have been covered by previous reviews so I won't repeat them. It has everything I need, though.

Sound : 7
I play mostly classic rock and blues numbers and this guitar will do that just fine for a beginner. The single pickups are weak and tinny sounding, but if you pump it through any kind of effects pedal, you can improve the sound dramatically. The humbucker is decent but doesn't have the full range that I would have preferred and had expected. For a beginner guitar though, it is overall a decent sounding axe.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
I love the neck on this guitar. Although the action was too high when I purchased it, after a quick adjustment it was fine. The pickups too were not setup properly and had to be adjusted. It took a while (as a beginner) to realize all this, but made all the difference in the world in terms of playability. Now it plays very well and gives better sound than from the factory.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I've had the GRX40 for about 4 years and it is holding up very well with no scuffs or marks in the finish. Initially, it would go out of tune easily, but with quality strings installed it seems to be less of a problem - not perfect, but better. It is certainly reliable enough for live playing in my opinion. I've never had any issues with any of the hardware or other components of this guitar.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with support on this, so no opinion.

Overall Rating : 7
I've been playing for 5 years and own a cheap Yamaha acoustic as well (that one will be replaced well before the Ibanez). For the electric, I use an old Traynor YVM-3 amp live and a Fender Frontman for practice. Pedals include a Tube Screamer, Vox Wah and Zoom multi-effects. When I purchased this guitar, I liked the feel of the neck. That's really what sold me on this one over others in the same price range. I wish it had better pickups (like SD Cool Rails and Pearly Gates perhaps), and I plan on upgrading it eventually with something. If it was lost or stolen I wouldn't buy it again, but I would rather get something similar with better pickups and without the trem since I rarely use it.

I have no Idea where this guitar is made, nor do I care.
-22 Frets
-S/S/H(now my favourite pickup setup by far)
-Ibanez made passive pickups(that sound surprisingingly good for a cheap guitar)
-black, white pickguard
-Traditional crap-o-matic tremolo
-standard tuners
-bought it used for $125

Sound : 8
I play a lot of metal, but after I scalloped this guitar, it played like a dream. I play through a Digitech RP80 multiFX pedal and a DOD G112 Amp, it sounds great
-The sound is kind of bright, I like it that way for the neck and middle pickups, but the bridge pickup could be a little warmer
-This guitar is good for all kinds of sounds, no doubt, anything you want

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
-Action was perfect
-I adjusted the pickups myself, so I wouldn't know
-The worst part was how the guitar always went out of tune when you use the tremolo, I plan to upgrade to someting better, but for now, im stuck with tuning it right after I use the Bridge, this problem is bad especially for the b and g strings

Reliability/Durability : 10
Awesome, no doubt

The specs are the same as ever1 elses but it was made in china.
I gave this a nine cause it has all the features a beginner guitar like this needs, the 5 way selector is great the tone and volume knobs are nothin special but do the job. The neck of this guitar is not that great i mean i have a good a acoustic that has a faster neck or maybe it just seems faster to me. The bridge this guitar has is definatly very good it feels and plays very well. the h/s/s pickup set up isn't that great but the humbucker can deliver on the riffs.

Sound : 7
I play metal, grunge, all kinds of rock and sometimes some soft music, this guitar is great for all kinds of music as long as u don't expect too much, it is a begginner guitar and one of the best in that area but it'll never match a $1000 ESP or Ibanez for that matter. The tone is however pretty high quality and the sustain is so-so.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action is pretty good, the guitar fells very good and the finish on my one waz top class.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar may not sound as good as your high end fender but it might just outlast it. This thing is built like a rock

I never tried to contact them and don't plan on either pls read sum other review to find out about customer support.

I have been playing guitars for the past 3 years. I guess i am just an intermediate guitarist but thats why i have this guitar, some of the people in the other reviews act like they are experts who have been playin forever but thats not true! I have all the gear u get with the guitar, i play the Ibz through a Zoom 505II into the gt10 amp. the tone i get is great, the guitar sounds great with both dist and clean, and u don't need worry about it gettin stolen. If u are a beiggner short of cash u should definatly get this guitar because this guitar has more value for money than anythin u are likely to find!!! If u wanna know more pls feel free to e-mail me..

Made in 2004, this is my first guitar. It is a strat with S/S/H picups, a volume and tone dial, non locking tuners, thin maple neck, black body, and it came in a kit with a gig bag, strap, cable, whammy bar, picks, tunner, and a GTA10 amp (terrible). I would like some locking tuners, but the tuners that came on the guitar aren't all that bad. It is a great guitar for beginners, or for a $190 CDN guitar.

Sound : 8
It is quite good for my style (Heavy rock by AC/DC, Black Sabbath), it sounds nice with my Peavy Backstage amp (excellent) on full distort. It is not a loud guitar. It is a little on the bright side.
You can get different sounds with the different pickups. I use the humbucker most of the time.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The guitar was set up well, but I lowered the bridge a bit to make it easier to play. The pickup selector wasn't bad, but the tuning pots have little range. It had 2 small finishing flaws, but were on the back of the guitar headstok.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar hasn't broke on me yet, but my cable jack is getting loose. Just recently my top E string broke, but i was messin with the tuning and i think i over tightened it. doh.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never dealt with em' for the guitar, dealt with them a lot for the amp that came in the starter pack (see GT10 amp reviews).

Overall Rating : 9
This is a great starting guitar, but most raters are 5-year guitarists expecting it to compare to their $1000 Gibson guitars. I might get a new one if i start gigin, but i will keep this one for practicing.

Serial number RX 40 I 6092845

Was sold to me off ebay as a GRX40 for $200...in mint condition...but on the neck it says RX40...and the reviews sound the same for both guitars...so...to me...there's some mystery as to what I trully have a GRX40 or an RX40

It has a black strat like body with a white pick guard...5 way switch and a volue and a tone...the GRX40 is pointier in the horns and lighter than a Strat...the access to the neck all the way to the 22nd fret is better than that on a Strat...HSS pickup configuration

I bought mine and the previous owner had already upgraded the pickups to: a Seymour Duncan Invader in the Bridge and two Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in the neck and middle position

I upgraded the Tremolo...the tuners...the nut and had the DiMarzio Strap Lock system installed

The stock tremolo is an exact replica of the crap trems that come stock on strats...and NEVER stay in tune when u use them...u know the one...the 40 year old crapper...anyhow...I upgraded this to a Wilkinson...changed the nut to a Wilkinson roller bearing nut...and switched the crap tuners to Sperzels

Now...I can use the trem in ridiculous ways for hrs on end...and the guitar doesn't go out of tune!!! I mean it...this guitar stays in tune extremely well now...Oh...I was going to upgrade the string trees to Fender string trees...but it turns out...with this neck...and the aforementioned hardware...it plays much better WITHOUT string trees...less friction and such

Actually I had Philadelphia's premier luthier Ron Ruggiero do all the work I've just mentioned

Anyhow...what I have now...is better than a Strat Deluxe or a Strat Plus...which were two guitars...whose hardware...greatly influenced my decision making when I added parts onto this beauty

I like the fact that there's a humbucker in the bridge...I never thought single coil Strats had enough balls in the tail...with the Seymour Duncan Invader...we are talking some serious power!!! This guitar can get as loud and mean as anything...I highly recommend the Invader!!!

Sound : 10
Played acoustically...this is a great guitar...I realized its potential instantly...when I first played it...I hated the hardware though...think of the hardware...as beginner electric guitar hardware...that's been put on Strats since the late 50s...the trem is tin like...the tuners...tin like and total crap as well...IMO...but sufficient...so...again...acoustically this is a great well put together guitar...that is trully amazing for the price...and if ur willing to upgrade the beginner hardware...you will have a professional instrument...that plays better than a Strat Plus! I trully love the sound of this guitar with the pickups I put into it...and I would recommend to anyone and everyone to put the same pickups in their GRX40s: Seymour Duncan Invader in the bridge with two Seymour Duncans in the neck and middle positions...however...I play a great deal...without plugging in...and acoustically...this guitar is first rate!

I also had a coil splitter installed...which is fun...but hardly necessary

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
This guitar played great the moment I had it...not sure how it came from the factory...but it was great when I got it...this guitar plays and sounds EXACTLY like a Strat...I've had two Strats...so I'm basing this opinion on experience...I like the paint job and the neck on this guitar...its just a straight up well made guitar...nothing overwhelming...in terms of inlays and frills...but totally rock solid and kick ass...I enjoy just looking at this guitar...its sleeker and thinner than a Strat or an Ibanez RG...and I dare say...better looking and more elegant than both...I should add...that I like the body on this Ibanez much more than the Yamaha Pacifica as well

Reliability/Durability : 10
Like a Strat...she is a durable guitar...rock solid...bolt on neck...when I first got her...she was almost anorexically light...however...when I added the Sperzel tuners and Wilkinson tremolo...along with the Wilkinson roller bearing nut...she gained weight and is now a healthy light weight guitar...very shoulder friendly...and a great player to boot

Customer Support : No Opinion
Don't know...never really dealt with them...I do love their products though!!! I have a Custom S-Series, a 1977 Arist, an RG560, and this GRX40...the necks on Ibanez's are always fantastic...in a way that improves a players skill level...Ibanez makes great instruments...don't think for a moment that the GRX can just be dismissed as a 'beginner' instrument...if you are willing to throw in a little money...over a period of time...you can turn this guitar into any Strats equal...I can't get over how well this guitar plays and sounds! NOt to mention looks

Overall Rating : 10
My advice on this guitar...is get it and start playing it...while slowly acruing components for its overhaul in the near future...get a Wilkinson Tremolo off Ebay [$50]...then Sperzel precision tuners [$50] and a Wilkinson roller nut [$10]...then...get a Seymour Duncan Invader for the bridge [$70] and two Seymour Duncan Hot Rails for the neck and bridge [about $50 each]...then take the whole mess over to a luthier and have him put it all together which will cost u another $300...but when ur done...u will have a first rate guitar that plays exactly like a Strat [a little better I think] and sounds just as Throaty as a Strat [A lot better I think]...boom...there's my little prescription for how to take a 'beginner' guitar...and turn it into a first rate guitar...no need to replace this baby...just slowly overhaul it!

-Guitar was made in China (like most now-a-days)
-22 frets....wish it had 24
-solid top (black finish)
-volume, tone, and 5 way selecter controls
- S/S/H pickup configuration
-Ibanez pickups
-Neck is Rosewood
-Has a strat-like body style
-Bought it with gig bag, tuner, strap, cable, picks, and other stuff

Sound : 9
I pretty much enjoy playing everything, and the 5 way selector really helps with that.
Im using just a little Ibanez amp with the guitar and it sounds pretty good. (Theres not too much unwanted noises.)
The guitar does have a nice full sound for being a beginner guitar in this price range.

For a beginner guitar I give a 9 for sound

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
The guitar sounded pretty good when I first bought it. (It sounds better once you break it in a bit.
What I didnt like about the finish job of my guitar was that there was a crappy finish job on the fret board if you look really good. Some areas were globby and some parts has a faint finish. On the guitar body there was parts where I could see a pink or reddish colour that was underneath..kind freaked me out.
The first guitar I was gonna buy (grx40) had a big crack on the neck...luckily I picked this one.
Other than that, everything was ok.

Reliability/Durability : 7
I dont think this guitar would be a wise choice for a live perfomance or gig. (I wouldnt use it without a backup)
Ive bumped up my guitar quite a bit, but its pretty strong and still looks good.
It doesnt stayed tuned very well, and also isnt very smooth with tuning.
Otherwise, the guitar is alright.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have a 6 month warranty, but havent dealt with the company before.

Overall Rating : 8
Ive been playing guitar for about 4 years now, and I got this guitar anout 6 months ago. I own two acoustic guitars, and this guitar. I plan on upgrading to a Ibanez AR200 or AR300 soon. If my guitar was ever lost or stolen, I dont think I would buy it again, just because its only really a beginner. (Id be pissed off though!)
I love this guitar mostly cause its like my first kinda thing. I only hate that its not a guitar that I could use all the time (in like live performances, etc...even though Ive never played live)
I think my favorite feature is the 5 way selecter control.
I would like to say that Ive played a Fender Strat before, and this is better by far.
The only thing I wish the ibanez has was a different head. Instead of all six tune pieces on the left if it had three on both sides.
This guitar rocks as a beginner guitar, and Ibanezs are the best!!!!

Made in China.
Has passive electronics.
Has a s/s/h pick-up config.
It has all all the features that I need except locking tuners.
The harware's all Ibanez, good and durable. I like the tuners.
Pick-up switch is good, easy switching.
I like the wood.
The pick-guard's a plus.
Great neck, I like the feel. The only drawback is the neck-joint and 22 frets, I find it hard to play the higher frets.
Ill give this an 8 because the absence of the lock and the inconvenient neck joint.

Sound : 10
I play hard rock and metal.
Good sound for a guitar this price range.
The humbucker rocks, rich full sound. Single coil has a bright sound.
The pick-ups are cool, there is no decreased volume whenever you switch from humbucker to single coil.
No noise at all.
Used with various amps (Marshall, Peavey, Randall). Sounds good at these amps but I like the Marshall best.
Dont expect it to sound like a Les Paul or a PRS. Higher-end guitars sound much better.
For the sound at this price range I give it a 10.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
It was set-up properly and pretty well. No need for adjustments.
Flawless.
10 for the price range.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It never disappointed me.
Built like a tank.
Good finish.
For the price range, another 10.

Never dealt with the company.

Overall Rating : 10
I love this guitar. It's my first guitar. :). I'm beginning to like 7 strings and ill buy one if I have the money. I have played electrics for a year but I have compared the sound of this guitar to other guitars that I've played: the N4 signiture model, a Fender squire, a Wahburn x-21, an RG7321, a Yamaha Pacifica, and a Godin guitar.
The N4 really rocks, Godin has a bright sound, x-21 sounds same as the GRX 40, RG7321 has a cool low-end sound, great humbuckers you have there, GRX 40 is better than the Yamaha Pacifica and Fender Squire in value.
I like the feel of the neck.
I wish it had 24 medium or jumbo frets.
For the price range this is one of the best, great value!!!!!
I would recommend this guitar for beginners and pros alike.

Made in indonesia. Fuc*ing bad fat-10 tremolobridge, s-s-h, 5-way switch, rosewood fingerboard, maple neck, basswood body, green finish.

Bridge is too bad. I blocked it.

Pretty good for shredding. I play mostly metal, and this shit is made for it.

Pretty muddy, I changed mics to v2 and s1:s pretty soon I got this axe. Rosewood neck with bridge humbucker gives nice solosounds, fits very well all kind of metalstuff i play.

As i wrote earlier, bridge and mics suck. otherwise it kinda good.

I don't know when it was made but it was made in China. It has 22 frets with 5 way selector S S H config. Black. Chep ass tuners and crappy bridge. For the price it's perfect for someone that is a complete begginer that learns fast and can afford to get rid of it after a year or so of playing.

Sound : 8
I play metal and I am doing a lot of arpeggios. This guitar got me to a start since it did have quite a good sound. Suprisingly you could ultra mellow the sound or super brighten it. Very good sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
At first I didn't know squat about electric guitars (I was 13 or so) but recently since I'm constantly playing know I know quite a bit so I learned that the original action is crap. But amazingly I had managed to set the thrust rod quite tightened and managed to lower the strings a lot to the way i prefer without it buzzing (exept in the 3rd and 2nd string which buzzes a bit).

Reliability/Durability : 6
No live playing with this guitar. But I havent thrown it away and the hardware is still good. This would be like a 6th backup.

Strat-style guitar made in Indonesia, unsure of the date or the year. It has 21 frets i think, and it has a 5 selector switch, one volume, one tone control, and a s/s/h pickup configuration. Cheap chrome-plated tuners, maple neck with a skunk stripe; capped rosewood fretboard.

At least that's all I analyzed for features when I was playing it.

Disclaimer:

Let me get across that I don't own this; nor do I plan on buying one. I played with this guitar alone for about a half an hour, making sure I checked everything out to do a review.

Sound : 7
I played this at a friends house through a Peavey Rage 158 combo. I used both distorted and clean channels.

The S/S/H combination is a real versatile combination; but if the pickups are like these and aren't built well, you might as well throw that "versatility" option out the window.

The single coil pickups are pretty dull, both with distortion and clean. They don't seem to have much life, they're low output coils and they're kind of plain-jane.

The humbucker has a solid jangly crunch when you flip on the distortion, and it loves to squeal and produce natural harmonics. All you have to do is lightly touch the string with your other finger (the one that's not fretting) and pick the strings and solo away. This is one option that I do like on this guitar; I've always wanted to aquire natural harmonics, but my Strat doesn't like to do that.

On the clean channel, the humbucker has that icepick-in-your-ear sound, and it literally HURTS when you play on that pickup setting. It's really bright and piercing. On distortion, that nuance is defined a bit, because of the harmonic overtones in the distortion.

This is a GREAT thrash guitar...something you could throw at your amp when you're finished for the day, or perhaps something that you could just swing around the room and not even care. However, the overall sound is kind of plain, and doesn't have much colorful character.

I imagine this would sound superb to a 12 year old who has only been playing for 2 months, but I really can't imagine anybody else applauding this instrument for its character in the sound department.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The neck and the fretboard feels terrible. The high frets (around 15-20) are extremely hard to fret a note on, and the overall feel is just plain and yucky. Not smooth at all. However, I will give it credit -- it feels a lot better than those poor-excuse-for-a-guitar (models 2003 and up) Gibson SG Juniors. Ugh!

The tuners were pretty stiff but not in a good way, it made a creaking noise every now and again when I turned them to tune the guitar. The whole guitar was dusty and one string was broke. Needless to say I took care of that broken string for him and took it off the guitar. Threw it in the wastebasket. Whew, now I can play...sort of.

A few years back when I first started playing, I played this exact same guitar of his. When I went to put it back, I was sitting on the bed and I was holding it about two feet above the floor. The neck slipped through my hand (i was still holding on to the guitar, btw)and it landed itself on the bottom of the guitar. No damage was done to the finish, but the input jack was ruined. It wouldn't work. I guess he went and took it in or fixed the problem himself since then.

I would be horrified to take this guitar to a gig.

Reliability/Durability : 6
Like I said above, the action, fit, finish, and reliability isn't real trustworthy. I don't think I could trust it any farther than I could throw it. It's a good beater guitar for at home playing though.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 7
I've been playing for just about two years now and I have been BLESSED with:

Three guitars (Fender Stratocaster, Taylor Big Baby, Yamaha FG412-S)
One Amp (Behringer GM110)
Effects Pedals galore (Boss SD-1, Boss CE-5, EHX Small Stone, MXR Phase 90 [w/script mod], DOD Classic Fuzz, Arion MDS-1, Arion HU-30, Ibanez DE-7)
and a bunch of other stuff.

When I picked up this axe and a few others at the house, I stopped and I thought about all that I had been Blessed with. I mean, wow...my guitars kicked all of these way out of the park. These axes are pretty sweet, but man I just feel at home with my instruments.

As I said earlier, this guitar is mainly a knock-around guitar, something you don't ever take out, but you use it around the house with that dusty old amp that always crackles when you turn it on and adjust the pots. Who cares if you're rawking out on the roof and you fall off, damaging the guitar right on the pavement? As long as you're okay, right?

I wouldn't recommend this as a main guitar to most people, but those who can tolerate this instrument as their main guy, hey, more power to you. I'm just saying that I wouldn't really trust gigging out with this to any place serious.

As a budget axe at a budget price, this really isn't TOO bad of a guitar. Your basic cheap, indonesian craftwork at hand.

One tip though -- if you're looking to buy a strat, buy a STRAT. Don't buy a knock-off, thinking that you'll achieve the same sound on your favorite Stevie Ray Vaughn records. It doesn't work that way.

Save your pennies if you're looking for a real instrument, but if a knock-around, beginner guitar/thrash master is your bag, then by all means, this is your dream ride.

God Bless

It has all the stuff a beginner or really crappy player needs. h-s-s pickup config for any type of music. come with a very cheap and unuseable tremolo. all the trem is good for is loosing the correct tuning.

Sound : 3
For the first 6 months it didn't sound all that bad. Then again i wasn't that good of a player. But, after 4 years this thing sounds and plays like ass.
Never ever holds tune.

I later installed a Seymour Duncan Full Shred SH-10 humbucker in the bridge. Sounded much better than the $5 humbucker put couldn't save the guitar from its dingy sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 3
Anyone whose ever replaced a pickup in one of these bastards can tell how poorly they are made. Action was horrible. I mean it costs like 99 bucks so what can you expect. Pretty good neck, compared to fenders and squires. The neck is the only thing i liked on this guitar.

This guitar would be great to sacrifice to the gods on stage with a can of lighter fluid.

Reliability/Durability : 5
I'll have to say, after all the hell this things been through it is absolutely amazing its still in one piece. After beeing used as an ashtray the finish still looks OK. The tuners are HORRIBLE; this is why the P.O.S. won't hold tune.

In a 99 dollar guitar, don't expect the hardware to last over 6 months. (hum... ...maybe that's the reason for a 30 day limited warranty...)

Customer Support : No Opinion
Word of advice, if something breaks it is undoubtably going to be cheaper to buy another 99 dollar guitar than fix it!

Overall Rating : 3
I've been playing for 9 years. I got this thing for Christmas my 8 grade
year in school. It was probobly the BEST beginner guitar i could have gotten. It was much better and much easier to play than comparable Fenders and Squires.

My advice, this in an exellent guitar for a beginner or someone who really doen't know what a good guitar sounds like. But, like all $99 guitars, its easy to outgrow.

For a seasond veteran of guitars this thing is a 2.
For a beginner its a 9 or 10.

I think mine is a 2003 model.
22 frets.
Solid-Top.
1 volume control. 1 tone control. 5-way pickup selector.
Bridge humbucker. Single coil in middle. Single coil at neck. (H-S-S)
Ibanez Powersound pickups.
Passive electronics.
Alder body. GRX neck.
Finish is metallic blue.
Strat body style.
Thru-body bridge.
Non-Locking tuners.
Thin neck. (very comfortable)
Came with gig bag, strap, cable, and tools.

Sound : 6
My music style tends to be rock, death metal, and even a little jazz. When I bought the guitar, also bought a 30-watt Marshall amp which was definitely a good decision for a guitar with mediocre tone. The pickup isolation sucks; whenever anyone even turns on a light, the pickups would generate a terrible buzzing sound every time I would take my hands off of the strings. It has a lot of hum on the single-coil pickups. However, I was able to remedy the hum from the single-coil pickups by modifying the settings on my amp. The clean sound is a little pearcing on the humbucker setting but it is great on any of the single-coil settings. The distortion sucks on the single-coil pickups but it is pretty nice on the humbucker setting. However, the distortion on the humbucker setting does lack crunch. Overall, the sound is pretty good (especially on the clean channels) but I wish the pickups were better isolated so I wouldn't have to deal with the electrical buzz.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 4
The original setup sucked. The saddle holding the humbucker was damaged thus causing the right side of the humbucker to sink into the guitar. This required some repairs. One of the worst problems was that the grounding wire inside the guitar kept coming disconnected and had to be weilded into place so it wouldn't keep coming off. The action is a little high but it isn't that bad. The frets are a little 2 flat; in some instances I just about have to grind my fingers into the fingerboard to get notes and chords to ring true thus making it difficult to play quickly. U can forget about using the whammy bar; the guitar doesn't have a locking-tremolo so everytime I used it, my guitar would go horribly out of tune. You can't downtune this guitar with the bridge it has either without paying another $50 to have the bridge modified. The bottom line is that the bridge sucked and I had to have a lot of modifications done on the guitar to make work right.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar is built 2 last. The strap buttons are great and the finish doesn't come off hardly at all. This is defifitely a guitar that can last 4 a very long time.

From what you may have just read, you would think I am saying 2 stay away from this guitar. However, I am not. This guitar is pretty good for someone who is just starting 2 learn 2 play. My only three real complaints about this instrument are that the pickups are not iscolated thus creating an awful buzz even on the humbucker setting when anything electrical in the house is turned on. It doesn't have the right kind of bridge. And that the original setup sucked. I tend to have a perfectionistic attitude however. I do ask, though, that U educate your decision before you get this guitar (or any guitar) and make sure it is an instrument that can fit all of your needs for at least a year without you having 2 do a bunch of modifications the guitar.

This little guy was mass produced in good ol' China. It has 22 frets and is solid-top. It has a single volume and tone knob as well as a five-way pickup switch. The Pickup configuration is S/S/H, and the pickups are Ibanez made. The electronics are passive. The bolt-on neck made of maple, while the body is made out of Alder. My model has a nice dark blue (sparkling) finish. The body is a strat-like shape. It has a standard PSND2 (H) Bridge. The tuners are alright but could be a little more sensitive. It has a Rosewood fingerboard and a very thin neck for guitars in this price range. It ususally comes with a gig bag.

Sound : 8
My musical style is pretty varied, but i would have to say i mostly play metal and thrash. I get better metal tones with this baby then my friend does with his high-end RG. I currently use it mostly with my Marshall MG15DFX amp, a Boss Metal Master MT-2, a Ibanez Tubescreamer TS-5 Soundtank, and a Boss DD-3 Digital delay. Surprisingly the cheap pickups on this guitar never make any noise. Even the single coils are almost noiseless. Its weird. For such a cheap guitar, they shouldnt be this good. With the right effects this guitar sounds great when distorted. The neck pickup works well when clean, however, the it's bridge counterpart sounds very thin. The sustain could be a little better, but hey, you can always get a compressor/sustainer pedal. This guitar is mostly good for metal and hard rock, as well as rock n roll blues and a white striped sort of sound. The only thing i dislike is that the neck isn't as thin as an Rg's. (RG is another Ibanez model) I'm going to install a EMG 81 pickup at the bridge pretty soon...and this thing is gonna sound like the shit (means very good). the tone will be so unique, cuz nobody uses EMG's with low-end guitars.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 2
Okay, when i baught this i did not know anything about action, neck warping...blah blah blah..guitar setup. The setup that it came in was totally crap. I had to tweak around with this thing a lot until i got the setup right... and i mean a lot. However it was worth it. It now has the lowest action of any guitar i have ever played, regardless of price (all but a $3000 prs i once played). And it still does not buzz at all unless put in a really low tuning like drop C. I had to change the height of the pickups many times too until i found a sweet spot that gave me a warm crunchy tone. When i got it the guitar contained no visible flaws on the coat. But, I made some...i dont really care tho...just adds to its history and personality. This thing also never goes out of tune unless u use the trem, which i never use...so i dont really care. I'm not gonna give this a one because u can get it right after a while...it's not like its unchangable.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I have played with it live and i had no problems with it. U must be thinking...Why the %^$& would this guy play with this low end guitar live. Simple cuz i love the sound it makes.....maybe its a fetish. I have droped it many times. MANY. It still works perfect. This finish is not of the best quality, so you might wana polish it regularly to keep it intact. I have never really had problems with the strap buttons, however the imput jack is another story. The damn screw kept coming loose. My solution was to screw it in so hard that i would never be able to unscrew it again..it worked, and now i have no problems any more. I can depend on this guitar...those Chinese really did a good job making this thing.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to call em up.

I have been playing for two years, but with how much I practice I can prob rank at 5 or 6. I also own a Fender Mexican Strat, and a B.C. Rich Mockingbrd. This little Ibanez is my favorite. I dont know why. I know the other ones should be, but thats just my oppinion. I just love the great tone you get out of this thing. It rivals my B.C. Rich. Seriously. I Just feel like a uncovered a treasure because i feel guilty in buying such a cheap guitar that sounds do good. Like i said, one i get the EMG's on this thing, and an RG neck...i will be in heaven. mmmmmmmmm. Overal this is a must for anyone who wants a cheap guitar that sounds unique. Good for people of all skill levels.

2002 model made in China
22/frets,Medium S/S/H
Ibanez Stock Pickups
Passive Electronics
Maple Neck, Rosewood Finger board
Black finish looks great when you use GHS Guitar Gloss
Strat Body, Alder material
Floating FAT-10 bridge with intonation bridge sliders and complete bridge movement for setting action, not each string at a time.
Tuners ar non-locking stock Ibanez it stays in tune fine using my old but good peterson 420 strobe tuner, (note if the string is sharp tune it up not down, this is best for keeping the tuners in tune, so if it's flat tune it sharp and work it back up, this with keep the correct tension on the strings.

Sound : 8
All music styles are fine with this guitar because of the pickup configuration.
I use a roland cube 30 with built in effects
Likes, I love the black finish, and the slighty finished maple GRX neck.

Dislikes, I use a right angle plug because the output jack is on the bottem of the gear would rather have it like a stat on the top of the guitar but the right angle plug is a simple fix.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Perfet action, just right, I don't know if the shop I bought it from or the factory set it up but the action and intonation and trust rod adjustments are great, frets out like a high dollar guitar.

We are talking about a guitar thats under $200 for that you get alot for your money. I would not use the 10 watt amp and cheap (thin) cable that comes with the JUMPSTART KIT because of how much single you loose. I paid more for my amp than the guitar but it is worth it the amp has all the effects built in and is great, the guitar sounds great at all settings but I prefer the middle setting on the 5-way switch

Reliability/Durability : 8
Yes it would
Harware is tight and looks great.
With proper care (polishing) the finish should last longer than the strings 100 times over. But like any thing else if you take care of it it will take care of you. Don't compare this to a $1000 or more dollar guitar except for the action! I have played with a MEX strat and I prefer the Ibanez to the strat, or maybe the strat was not setup really well.

I have never dealt with Ibanez in the past but do know there website is great and easy to use www.ibanez.com
My father has played Ibanez in the past and said he loves the fret action of this GRX40BK compared to the many other guitars he has played, As good or better than some of the top names.

A better cord than the cheap one that comes with it (JUMPSTART KIT)

This thing is pretty packed with features I think. Two single coils, one humbucker in bridge, so you can get a WIDE range of sounds. Crappy tuners. Vintage tremolo. 22 frets in all, but the neck bolts on right after the 16th. Nice smooth very fast neck, which is nice. 1 volume, 1 tone, 5 way switch. Like I said this thing has just about everything that you could slap on it.

Sound : 5
The sound is OK. It's not gonna win any awards or anything. It's good only for a beginner. I like just about everything from metal to smooth picking. I've even played a few blues licks. It suits all this pretty good, if you are a BEGINNER. Good crunch, even on death metal type crap. OK clean tone, not great. Clear, yet it doesn't sparkle like some other Strats. Humbucker is really bright, coils are pretty bland and tasteless.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 3
I bought it used, so I don't know how the factory had it. The humbucker is slapped in there really sloppy, looks like @#$%! The action is ok. You can play pretty easily. I would just take it and have it set up if I really cared, but I'm gonna get a new guitar real soon, so why bother? the guitar gets dings really easy and I take real good care of her. The plug thing always comes loose, but that's happens no matter what guitar you get. Just put some thread-lock crap on it.

Reliability/Durability : 5
Yes strap buttons are solid and that's a BIG deal. I've never had them come loose and I've played it A LOT over the course of 1.5 years. Like I said, finish doesn't last. I would gig with this beginners guitar, lol. What kinda question is that!? They would laugh me off the stage, lol. Mainly cuz it sounds like crap compared to what, say, a Samick strat copy sounds like.

PEOPLE, BUY A SAMICK MB 1 (THEIR STRAT COPY). It is sooo much better in sound and everything! It sounds awesome! I just played in today. LOOK INTO IT!!!!! This is a good beginners guitar at best. Intermediate and above players, sheild your eyes from this, it's a sin to look at. Dont even think bout it. Unless you get it for like $20 like that one kid on here. lol. So that's my word.

i play mostly rock. or anything else makes no difference. im using the crappy little amp that came with it. its a 10 watt ibanez. ooo yes all powerful and mighty 10 watt amp! yeah right. for its size it does have a pretty good tone though. the guitar makes a decent sound also. it has a variety of sounds.

everything seems to be adjusted perfectly. the finish is really nice. the only thing that i saw wrong with it was a slight scratch on one of the tuners. nothing really noticable.

Ibanez GRX40, made in China or Korea. Bought off E-Bay for 90 bucks, only slightly used. 2 Single Coils and a Humbucker (all passive stock ibanez) linked into a 5 way switch. Standard strat style bridge. White pick guard. Stock ibanez tuners, I got my guitar with a free case. Nothing Really special or unique about it, pretty much a standard, cheap, beginner electric guitar.

Sound : 6
I play Metal and hard rock. I run the guitar through a Marshall something and other, 30 watts. Anyway, the guitar sounds very good for what it is. I was very surprised. The pickups are a little to muddy and you cant hear any attack on the single coils. The Neck single coil buzzes like hell. Its okay.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Because I bought the guitar used I wont be able to really rate it in this section. When I got it everything was fucked up, the action was way to high, the truss bar too tight, pickups to low... ect. After a little work and tinkering I was able to set it up to my preferences. One thing I did notice was that the little allen screws on the bridge (the ones used to adjust the action) come lose, I have already lost the top allen screw on the low E string. I also lost the pick up switch cap.

Reliability/Durability : 7
This guitar would survive live play but I would care an extra (you should always have an extra guitar when playing live... just in case.) I can already hear the pickup switch going out, it now buzzes on the humbucker which is something new. The strap buttons will work, nothing special. All in all I think it is a very dependable guitar for what you pay for.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Bought the guitar used, not under warranty, and even it it was I dont think I would bother calling customer support if there ever was a problem.

This guitar is great for my style. I play mainly punk some rock some metal but also tons of clean stuff. I use a Fender Hot Rod Deville 4 by 10 with this guitar and occasionally i use a dan electro french toast distortion but this guitar sucks with that pedal. The guitar is very versitile for how much it costs I would definetally recommend it. It is a little noisy distorted though.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Guitar was set up well the action and inotation. My Humbucker Pickup keeps loosing up for the first few months but all fixed now. The guitar is pretty good in this category. Except I can't say enough about how horrible the tuners are. Im in a gigging band and when I can sometimes use it for 1 song but ocassionaly i can use it for 3 or 4 which is still horrible.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
This guitar will withstand live playing except for the tuner. The hardware should last fine. The strap buttons were great but I replacec all of mine with strap locks. I can depend on it except for the tuners. And I would definetally use a backup.

Made in 2002 in China. Everyone has covered all the features before so there is no need to be redundant. I think this is the absolute best sub $200 guitar on the market. Plays and sounds like a guitar 3 or 4 times the price.

Sound : 10
Suits my style great, which is everything from classic rock to metal to country. I use a Marshall AVT 50 with it, and only the footswitch for distortion. No noise from the humbucker or in the 2d and 4th positions. Only normal single coil hum on the middle and neck pickups. Bridge humbucker has a very nice bright sound on clean and a meaty sound on distortion, much like the bridge pickup of a Les Paul. I like the 4th position best, on distortion gives you that great dark sound which is great for Black Sabbath or Metallica. So far, there is nothing I dislike about it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Setup perfectly. Everything is perfect.

I figure mine was made in 2002 because it is made in China and everyone started making their guitars there by now. Mine is part of an Ibanez Jump Kit, came with an IBZ10 Amp, gigbag, strap, cord, tuner and picks. I had gotten away from electric guitars over the years playing mostly acoustic and got to missing an electric to mess around on once in awhile, but not playing one enough to justify spending big bucks, so I bought this pack brand new for $239.99. I think it is very nice. It is your basic strat setup, but only has one tone control and one volume knob instead of two tone controls like a strat. I actually like this better and the input jack is on the bottom of the guitar instead of on the front like a strat, which I also like better. The shape is a little different than a strat but it looks very nice and feels great. Mine is agathis. Has a humbucker at the bridge position and two single coil pickups with a 5 way selector switch. The humbucker is called a powersound humbucker and they are all made by Ibanez. It has a maple neck and rosewood fingerboard. The neck is nice!! Plays like butter. Has a standard floating tremelo with a whammy bar, but I never use one of those, prefering to bend strings. Medium frets. Came with all I mentioned above. Great guitar!! I give it a 10 because it has the features it is intended to have......basically everything a strat has except the extra tone knob, which I never thought was worth anything anyway.

Sound : 9
Suits my style of music fine. I play mostly classic rock, grunge, southern rock and get in my moods for heavy metal. This guitar sounds pretty damn good actually. I have a Marshall G30RCD amp as well as the amp that came with it (kick ass little amp). I also have used a Boss DS-1 Distortion Pedal and a Danelectro Corned Beef Hash Reverb Pedal with it. Normal hum from the single coils in the 3rd and 5th positions......which is to be expected. Can have single coils without that. No hum from the humbucker and none in the 2d and 4th position, drawing off of more than one pickup. Has a bright full sound at the humbucker, a hint of tele twang, great for grunge and that blink 182 sound which I like, mellower drawing off the humbucker and middle pickup which is good for classic rock. Third position drawing off the middle pickup gives a bell like tone which is very nice for soft rock. 4th position gives a darker sound and with distortion is very good for things like Sabbath, Metallica and AC/DC stuff. 5th position, drawing from the neck pickup has a very nice blues/jazz tone to it. Overall, this is a damn good sounding guitar. Don't know what everyone is bitching about. One should take into consideration that a $200 guitar is probably not going to sound like an Eric Clapton or Jeff Beck signature strat. I think this guitar will hold its own with any of the mexican strats made by Fender. It certainly outclasses the Squiers by a long shot.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I bought this at our local music store, so setup was perfect and pickups and intonation were flawless. Great neck.......absolutely incredible.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I see no reason why this guitar would not withstand live playing, although I am retired from gigging these days. Hardware seems fine, finish is great.....mine is a Navy Metallic Blue. Strap buttons are great....actually had trouble getting the strap on it. I would say it is quite dependable. I would NOT gig with anything without a backup. I have had $3,000 Les Pauls and $1,500 Fenders crap out on me during a gig.

Never dealt with Ibanez before, in fact this is the first one I have ever played.

I have been playing for 40 years. I played professionally and as a studio musician for over 20 years. I have had almost every guitar you can imagine from Rickenbackers, Strats, Tele's to Les Pauls. Right now, I have this guitar, a Nelsonic Tele Clone (Awesome!!), a Nelsonic Les Paul Clone (also Awesome!!) and several acoustics and acoustic electrics. Nothing I wish I had asked about it. I went to the shop to buy a new Fender Standard Strat and decided on this one. I actually liked the way it played and sounded better for what I was looking for. Has everything I want. I actually wanted to have a single guitar that would get all the sounds I want......and I think I have found it. I will let some of the others go now.
