Think mine is manufactured in '99, in Malaysia. 22 frets, HB/SC/HB passive pickups, no pickguard, otherwise your standard strat....All black except for the bridge and the (non-locking) tuners. I'd like two more frets, locking tuners(goes out of tune really easy) but let's face it it's a beginners guitar and a a damn good one too.......

It handles my style, wich is Metal, quite well. The bridge-PU works fine for Rythm and the neck-PU is quite god for soloing. You can also get som cool sounds with the middle-brigde setting, kinda' twangy. I'm considering a change of the neck-pickup, I think it's a little too muddy, need a brighter, warmer tone.......

I bought this second hand so I had to adjust the pickup height and the bridge...... The input jack was loose and had a loose cable, but I just solded it back on and screwed the jack tight, haven't had any problems since.... The finished is so far flawless, and I've banged it into walls, doors, even dropped the thing before I put on straplocks =) One thing tough, the logo scrapes off really easy...hmmmm

Probably made in 1999, I dunno, I bought it in 2000. Standard fixed bridge, in my opinion has great sustain, or maybe I just lucked out. I think its made of plywood or something but I'm not too picky about that. I'm not about to cut into the body to find out. Non locking tuners. and Great sounding pickups. 22 frets and mine came witrh a gig bag. This is one of the best learning guitars out there!!

Because I have to play such a variety of music (Metal, classic rock, blues, jazz...) it does get a bit sloppy. For hard rock and metal, this is the cats pajamas. My setup goes GRX40 -> boss equilizer -> boss distortion/feedbacker -> Ibanez Delay/echo -> Marshall 30 watt. Sometimes I run everythinh through an old tapedeck and then back into the amp to get a very VERY tight electronic sound. The bridge pickup is great, I'm stuck on it 95% of the time. Even though I play rythm in my band, I still use the lead configs. OOhh I forgot to mention that I slapped on an Ernie Ball 7 sting set, and just ditched the high e string. I use one of the lowest tunings out there, even lower than those korn guys. GDGCFA

Well like the idiot I am, I put stickers all over it one day, tasteful mind you, but a few weeks later I got sick of them and removed them. all the stickers on the finish came off fine but the pickguard still has sticky crap all over. DONT STICK STICKERS ON YOUR GUITAR!! the action really needed to be set up when I got it from the store but seeing as this was my first guitar I needed my uncle to help me. There were no flaws in the finish. I swear, anyone who has a problem with this guitar is nuts.

If anything, I break the low E string the most. I pound on the low stuff almost too much, and I write my own music so that just adds to the low end. I've only gigged twice but both times it was fine. The g string goes out of tune now more than even but its alway just a bit out so I'll just tweak it back. Definetly a dependable guitar. Buy it, mine was very worth it.

I also own an ibanez GAX70, a Yamaha acoustic, and I've had a Fender strat for a while now..but I "borrowed" that mwa ha ha ha

Accessories - 25 feet cable, strap.

Its not a high end type of guitar, but it's very good for its price.
Its very versatile.....to my type of playing..suits to Neo Classical, Blues, Atmospheric Metal, It will sound a little crappy by its own but it sound great when plugged into Zoom GFX8 with Marshall valvestate amps or Marshall Stacks. The humbuckers dont hum at all(thats good), the neck pick up(humbuckers) sounds great for fat leads, the middle pick up(single coil) gives a great acoustic sound, and the bridge pick ups(humbuckers) gives a great rhythm distortionas well as screamin leads. The neck pick ups do not produce a very rich sound but the bridge pick ups pack a hell of a punch coz it gives a bright sound.
Ibanez guitars are very versatile, u can get almost any sound u want to, although the GRX is not the best choice, it still is quite versatile depending on your preference settings. If I had a choice, I would change the pick ups to D'Marzio's but you might as well buy another better guitar(usually more expensive) coz the pick ups will cost a hole in ya pockets.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:
6
Hmmm.....the action is very high(not good for leads)...had to bring 'em down and just the intonation all over again. But after that, the guitar is nothin like another guitar the same price. The pick ups were adjusted 'sufficiently' well enuf for near-good playing but self adjustments would give more satisfaction while playing. The GRX has a few flaws.....kinda turnoff sometimes....loose master controls(volume), loose cable jack, the surface scratches easily....basically that.
Reliability/Durability
:

Errmmzzz......well....it would be sufficiently good for gigs(Its good when you use good effects like the Zoom GFX8 and good amps like a Marshall Stack..), but when I used it for a concert, it doesnt really give a good Powerful sound & tone....But the GRX70 makes a good back up guitar.....I'd prefer to keep a low cost back up guitar such as this. The hardware are good for a period of time, depending on how often you play with it....(it has a short life span) and mostly the hardware needs either frequent 'overhauls' or servicing(which i bother not to on a less expensive guitar)... The finishing is a beauty but the surface gets scratched easily, usually from heavy picking. The strap buttons are adequately acceptable for playing but they look rather flimsy and easily spoiled, not to mention that my strap comes off often during practices when i play my guitar tilting or neck vertically facing up(I'd rather change the strap buttons)..... and an advice for you GRX70 owners: Keep back up guitars during gigs coz this guitar can cause you BIG TIME!

Hmmmm.....never sent it for servicing before, I'm planning to get another guitar. I tried to fix the wiring and the loose master volume control, but when I looked at the internal hardware, I decided not to meddle around much coz the inside really made the guitar look like a cheap toy.....check it out yourself: see to believe!
Overall Rating

This guitar is great for its price, never seen anything like it....
very versatile for its range of less costly priced guitars, I'd would check out the internal wiring before I would want to buy it(if i were you). If it were stolen, I'd only buy it as a back up guitar, but I'd rather settle for an Ibanez GSA, RG or S-Series(yum yum...). The thing i love about the GRX70 is that it has a neck like no other cheap guitar......its slim, slick to play with, almost gives the S-Series neck feeling(the width is nicer though on the GRX), the thing I hate about it is it's tone during large-scale concerts(Aint soundin too good even with D.I boxes), Favourite Feature: Gotta be the neck. I wished the GRX70 had a locking nut, Low-End Floyd Rose Bridge and a better quality controls(volume, tone) - its better to spend a little more to get the best out of such a guitar.

been playing for lil over a year, still beginnerr... i owned a peavey raptor plus b4, and sold it, because of its thin neck..the GRX70 is somehow more comfortable, but no locking tuners as on the raptor...also the raptor seemed more solid.
if i lost it, i'd probably stop plating for a while, save some money and buy a PRS(dream guitar)...

1998 ibanez made in indonesia. 22 frets with dot inlays. H/S/H pickups with 5 way swithcing. Nothing on it is special.. Body seems pretty tough though. Standard Tuners that dont keep tune well when using tremelo. Keeps tune great i f you dont use trem though. Really isnt a bad guitar for a beginner though. Sounds great, and no hum from pickups at all.

Sounds great, but had to change to lightweight strings to cure buzz from frets. Came with heavy strings(which i dont like anyway). after changing strings, i think it sounds great compared to most beginner guitars.

Ibanez logo on headstock was poorly painted (peels easily) Pretty bad when the company logo peels off the damn thing. Otherwise finish is great looking and feeling. A good locking nut would prolly fix the tuning problems.

I play ska-punk, and I use this as a back-up. I usually run a Gibson Les Paul Studio through a Digitech RP2000 to a Mesa Boogie 50.50 Power Amp to a 4x12 Cab. It pisses me off cuz this thing almost sounds the same as the Studio through all that stuff. There are some differences, such as less low end...but it's a strat and it's cheap. I don't expect it to sound or play like a Les Paul or PRS and if you do you're an idiot. It's only like $130 and sounds amazing for the price.

Daddy's Junky Music set it up and they did it like idiots. The action was much too high. So I took it and got it a "tune-up". Some of the neck was shaved (to elimanate buzzing), the action was lowered and, 9's were put on (Daddy's had 10's). After this small mod (which was done for free by the same guy that does Snapcases guitars) it kicks ass and is the nicest guitar I've ever played. Nicer than a PRS and my Les Paul in my opinion. But the factor/Daddy's did a bad job. It has potential with small adjustments, but factory blows.

I use it as back up. Strings rarely break (considering I put 9's on it anyway), it gets beat enough and doesn't really look that bad.

With a few simple mods (by someone who knows that they're doing), this can be a guitarists dream come true. The only complaint is the whammy bar kills the tuning, but I don't use it so it doesn't bother me at all. The electronics aren't as bad as they are made out to be. People just can't get over that a cheap guitar can be as good as a $27827 one.

OK, this is a 1998 model Ibanez GRX70, with 22 frets, an H/S/H pickup config strat style guitar. No special features such as locking tuners etc. just a basic strat style guitar. It does have a trem style bridge, as most of these style guitars do. Very average, so it gets an average score
Sound
:

This is meant to be a guitar for metal heads, but it doesnt really fit my metal styles, such as black sabbath, AC/DC, Ugly Kid joe etc. (stop laughing, UKJ were good!)
This guitar has almost no 'bass' whatsoever, sounding very thin in all settings. To pickup buzz was no better and no worse than other guitars in this price range. The bridge 'bucker has an almost constant fuzzy sound, which makes it very annoying to use for too long. I have used it with a variety of amps, my personal setup being a crappy Fender 15-watt thing. Again pretty average all round
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

I got this axe second hand, so i cant comment on its factory setup. What i can comment on is the cheap, crappy fretwire, which wore away to almost nothing in a few months. This meant i had to move the action up really high, making soloing impossible.
The dark blue finish was easily scratched, and chips off really easily. The body wood. Agathis, is really light- and really soft too!
It dents really easily, and most of the scres have become loose, making thw Trem dangerous to use! The controls were also real cheap, the pickup selector is only kept toghether with an elastic band thesedays. The pots are noisy too. This is fairly poor all in all, not what i expected from Ibanez.

I dont think this guitar could be depended on to keep working for very long at all! You are mad if you take it out on stage without a backup! One of the strap button screws flew out the side of my guitar after only a few weeks of playing! The finich scratches too hell when picking the strings too hard.

Dont even buy one for a stage prop, you will die of embarrasment as knowlegable fans realise the crap you are about to use, and laugh at you!
