Super Strat configuration, H-S-S, with trem. Got it as part of a set so naturally it came with gobs of stuff.
Black finish with a few pearly flecks in it.
5-way switch.
Volume and tone, but not two tone knobs, just the one. Of all the things about this git, the knobs seem cheapest, everything else seems pretty good. But the knobs stay on and work, so no big deal.
Sound

I commute between two apartments and have different gits at each one. Whenever I come back to the Ibanez GSA 60 location, I am always delighted anew each time. The guitar just plain sounds good. Lots of ring, lots of sustain, lots of variety from the PU's. THe humbucker gives good crunch, the SCs are sweet. When I first got this item I was new to the electric game, but now after playing for over a year and having something to compare it to, this guitar just keeps on bringing in the goods.
I prefer my hohner OSC for a few things, but that's more a matter of style.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
Decently set up in the box, I tweaked it a little but it did not need a professional job, unlike the other 3 electrics I have.
Pickups, sure I adjusted them who doesn't; I like a quiet middle one so I moved it back, but that's just me.
Otherwise incredibly playable right from the start.
Oh, I changed the strings, it came with 9's and I like 10's. No big deal.
Reliability/Durability
:8
In over a year of constant use it has acquired one tiny dent where it fell against a furniture corner. Otherwise still perfect.
It stays in tune as well as or better than my others (a vintage Avenger, a Hohner OSCII), and I would gladly play live with it and plan to. WOuld naturally use a backup, both in case of weird accident and because for some songs I like a neck humbucker.

Played as a kid, then dropped it, took it back up as an adult. Been playing for a little over a year, including live (parties etc.). Tend towards the indie-surf rock and turkish. This does well on both, being quite flexible, can give me the clean sound I want for turkish, as well as whatever might enter my mind for indie rock, except for things that prefer a neck humbucker. I use bluegrass licks sometimes and the middle PU lets me do those too, nice and clean, then flip the switch to the bridge hummer for crunchy power chords. I don't like lots of stratocaster-esque twang or quack, and this is mercifully free of those, but folks who like that sound may find fault with this; I don't. I don't use a lot of FX, tend to play clean or with just a little overdrive, so I cannot speak to how it works lots of FX.
I was very much a novice when I bought this, and lucked out - I could have done waaay worse in my ignorance at the time. Now after a year of playing, alone and in a band, this is still a great guitar that I enjoy playing and do not have any reservations about. I will keep it and use it as one of my main guitars, despite what anybody might say about it being a beginner's guitar. Obviously there are better instruments out there, but for the money I think this is a total winner.

8/8/08 manufacture.
Three decent pick-ups, two single coil and one humbucker, with a 5-way selector, but unfortunately only master volume and master tone knobs. Nice string-through body bridge, and decent tremolo arm set-up, which holds its tuning fairly well.
Sound
:8
Sounds fantastic, even on the cheap practice amp I've been using it with. Low noise, great sound. No fret noise out of the box even with detuned strings. Not too bright, but good tone and sustain.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:8
Pick-ups could have been better aligned, wiring visible from front of body. Pick-up selector and knobs are completely noiseless and smooth. The finish is beautiful, but has a bit of a sparkly character to it, despite the photographs portraying a more matte/low gloss tone. Bridge was decently set-up, but factory strings didn't even survive tuning, so I adjusted the set-up pretty much immediately with my new strings.
Reliability/Durability
:10
Seems extremely reliable, wiring looks impeccable and there's no unexplained noise. Strap-buttons are great for standard buttons, but of course a strap-lock set-up is prefered. Finish shows smudges easily, but looks like it can take a beating.

I traded in my old Danelectro in favor of a more modern sounding guitar, and got just that. It doesn't have the beautiful tone of my semi-hollow u2-56, but it has good sound more suited for heavier music. I've been playing an Ibanez GSR205 bass for several years and loving it, and my experience so far with this guitar has been almost as good.
I wish this guitar had independant volume knobs so I could use the pick-up selector as a killswitch, and the bridge could stand to be a little more stable. Likewise, the pick-ups could have a little more omph.
Overall, I think this is a fantastic value for the price. It could stand for some upgrades, but it still performs beyond its price.

I bought this as an inexpensive back up for my Ibanez SAS model. I know it is a cheaper version but there is enough character in this guitar. The body has a nice contour which you might expect from a Joe Satriani model. The neck is incredibly thin. I would have preferred one slightly thicker but everyone has their own tastes. The tremelo bar and bridge are ever so sensitive yet they do not put the guitar out of tune. This is ideal for me when playing country music like a slide fiddle.
Sound

The pickup selector give such a range of sounds so there is no need to buy a modelling guitar. In particular the positions 2 and 4 sound very much like an acoustic and the bridge pick up is really good for leads.

This was perfectly set up. No fret buzz, no uneven frets and a perfect action.

The price of these guitars is astonishing. For a few pounds less you could end up with some junk which will discourage any player. It is probably the best solid body guitar at around one hundred and fifty pounds. For people who can play acoustic guitars and want a first electric this is the one I recommend. Though I do mention the thin neck it is not too pricey, gives good variety of sounds, stays in tune, is light though thick in sound, does not have the hassle of a locking trem, and looks like a really expensive model.

Ive been playing for around 4 years and this guitar was my first. Gotta say its been good, the only things i needed to fix where the volume gages popped out, could be somthing i did, and tighten the pickups. But other than that its been good. However i would say this guitar is good for rythm but not very good good for leads. its a starter guitar but i wouldnt upgrade to it unless u had one of those walmart guitars of an acoustic.

I pretty much stole this guitar from a broke dude off craigslist ($70), but I was totally floored with what I got. I was expecting a beater to screw around with and not care if it got dinged up or stolen. What I wound up with is a guitar that seriously competes with far more expensive makes at a price that is a total joke.
Don't let the price scare you. It's not "cheap". It's just inexpensive (thanks to CNC technology and outsourcing- not because they cut any corners with quality)
If you buy guitars to name-drop and impress other gear-queers, an Ibanez Gio isn't going to do it. If you want a reasonably priced guitar that plays like a much, much more expensive guitar, this is definitely the best bet.

Ibanez GSA60
Mine was bought as a christmas present in 2002.
I have been playing guitar for 23 years and have owned many guitars. Some of the best some of the worst.
This one has a jewel blue finish. It has a strat style tremelo which is basically locked down. It stays in tune better. I dont even use the tremelo. It has 1 double coil pickup at the bridge and 2 single coils at the mid and neck positions. It also has a 5 way selctor switch and 1 volume and 1 tone nob. Very basic guitar. Im not sure what the body is made of, but am pretty sure its not plywood. The neck is rosewood and has 22 frets. The cool thing about this guitar is it has a contour top which I have never seen on another GSA60. Very comfortable fit. Im sure this guitar was made in 2002. It was made in Indonesia. Overall it is a very solid guitar and I still own it to this day. It still looks brand new after 4 years of playing out. I keep pretty good care of it though. Sentimental value.
Sound
:9
I play mostly metal, blues, and rock, but also I am in a praise band at my church.
For the metal stuff, The double coil is very hot and can get as much crunch as you want. As far as the clean sounds, the fourth setting on the selector switch to me gets the best sound. It sounds very bluesy with vey minimal distortion, and with no distortion gets an awesome full clean sound.
I used to use it with a Crate amp, and it sounded horrible. Needless to say I got rid of the Crate amp. I did some research and found out that some of my favorite guitar players would play through a bass amp. So guess what I tried? Yup I play through a bass amp. I have a Berringher ultrabass 180 watt amp with an alluminum cone. I use a Boss chorus ensemble, a Boss turbo distortion, a Boss digital delay(DD-6), and a Boss V-Wah. I have spent the last 2 years trying to get the best sound for that guitar, and with these pedals and the right settings, I can play any style I need, to to fit my musical tastes. I refuse to play country so I dont know how this guitar will hold up in the country world.
I will say the pickups are a little noisy on the 1st and 5th settings on the selector switch. It gets some undesirable humming noise, so when Im not playing in between songs, I have to shut the volume off. It was like that right out of the box.
I have recorded on a CD with this guitar, and we used that guitar to play leads instead of my buddies $800.00 carvin guitar on some songs. You can tell on the CD which leads were played with my Ibanez. Way cleaner and clearer sound. We used all the same settings in the studio for both guitars.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:7
The action on the guitar was pretty good right out of the box. I have never messed with the action ever. I can pull pinch harmonics or false harmonics very easily with it. My buddy that plays metal with an american tele. Played my guitar and couldnt believe how well it played. And when I told him what the price was, he was floored.
Like I said, the bridge is locked down and I dont use the tremelo. It stays in tune that way. I had to raise the double coil to get more crunch and sustain, but it now gets more feedback then I like. The volume nob is getting loose and noisy from constantly turning it down to kill that unwanted humming noise. There were no flaws on the guitar, but the little plastic handle on the selector switch has always fallen off. I suppose I should glue it.
Reliability/Durability
:10
Overall this guitar has been very reliable. I play out once a week, and this has been my only guitar for 4 years. It has never let me down. I play pretty hard and it has stood the test for me. I hardly ever break a string, so to me the saddles and nut must be set up properly. The strap buttons have never come loose and the hardware has always stayed tight. I never have used a backup with this guitar. The finish still looks brand new.

I also own an Ibanez bass, but only bought that because of how impressed I was with this guitar. I also own a Washburn acoustic but its a cheapo.
I love how reliable this guitar has been, but HATE THAT HUMMING NOISE!!!
I have compared this guitar with a Fender Telecaster,a Carvin, and a Fender strat. All expensive guitars. I will say I wouldnt trade this guitar for any of them.( maybe the tele ).
If this guitar were stolen, I would have to hunt down the individual who stole it and make him pay. That is more because of the sentimental value though. I used to play on a Jackson and I think this guitar is very comparable. Pretty much the same. Its pretty much a basic beginners guitar but still has that quality feel to it. Nothing special or unique.

22 frets, H/H pickups with volume/tone/3-way p/u selector. I strongly recommend finding one of these with 2 humbuckers and no single-coils. The singles don't sound very good (though that is always subjective.) The tuners "catch" a lot, the tremolo needed to be locked down. I am rating this compared to an advanced player's guitar. For the beginner I would give this a 10. It is an excellent guitar to start on and learn about.
Sound
:7
I play mostly classic rock with a little blues and little metallica thrown in there. Peavey classic 30 amp. This guitar has a beautifully rich, full sound- especially clean. I repeat: THE CLEAN SOUND OF THIS GUITAR IS INCREDIBLE, ESPECIALLY WITH A TUBE AMP!!! I love this guitar's versatility. Mostly clean amp with an overdrive pedel used mostly as a boost, and this baby can get close to Stevie Ray Vaughn. Throw in one of those hellacious Boss Metal Zone pedals and you've got something close to Metallica. I have also had no problems getting close to Guns-n-Roses, Zeppelin, and AC/DC sounds with this guitar. This is a spectacular beginner's guitar because you can approximate so many sounds. It doesn't absolutely peg any one of them, but can get damn close to them all with a little bit of tinkering. Sustain isn't wonderful, so if you have weak hammer-on/pull-off technique it won't be too pretty. Just practice...
Action, Fit, & Finish
:7
If this is a beginner's guitar, it doesn't really matter how everything is set up. You have to learn what you like, and how to tweak your own guitar. I lowered the action a little, raised the pickups a little, and adjusted the saddles to get the intonation where it should be. Also, I had the bridge pinned down to the body of the guitar because it did not stay in tune with the bridge "floating." Finish is great. Even if you don't clean it up for several months, it looks beautiful when given a little attention.

The strap buttons come loose once in a blue moon, just tighen them. It seems like this thing will last forever. As I get better I will probably keep this guitar and use it as a backup.

I have been playing for about 4 years. I have a Peavey classic 30 amp (which I love), and Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive(which I love), a Vox Wah (which I love), a Boss DD-6 Delay (love it too), and a Boss Metal Zone that is falling out of favor. Would I replace it if it was stolen or lost? probably just for $%^& and giggles- it is a great product for the price (i.e. it's really cheap, but plays well). I love how versatile it is as a beninner/intermediate guitar, I love the attention to quality Ibanez gives. When I was shopping for my first guitar, I compared it to a Mexican Strat and a Epiphone Les Paul knock off. The strat had no balls compared to this thing (difference between single and humbucking pickups). This guitar sits somewhere in between both of those. I loved its tone through the tube amp. As a first guitar, this gets a 10++.

This guitar is somewhat versitile in that it doesn't do any one sound particularly well. However, this is a beginner's guitar, bottom line. For that purpose, it works really well.
I bought this as my first electric...and I loved it. It really is the perfect guitar for a beginner. The price is so reasonable that there's no reason not to buy it when you're just starting out. However, there are plenty of drawbacks that experience in playing and listening will bring to light. The first problem is that the pickups. The humbucker has a bright sound that can get pretty warm, but it takes a lot tweaking to take away the muddiness. The single-coil pickups are basically useless, as the tones are uncharacteristic and unresponsive with very little sustain. The overall sustain is average, and after letting a note ring out for a while, the tone is lost. This, however, should not be a problem for a beginner; but if it is, you can easily get the pickups switched.
The next problem: the tremolo bridge is useless, and hinders the guitar more than it helps. I used it for the first week, but the slightest touch of the whammy bar sends the guitar flying out of tune...I don't even know where the whammy bar is anymore. Then, God forbid you change tunings, or the bridge gets thrown out of whack, throwing the action off, loosening the neck and causing a lot of fret buzz as well. As my ear and feel for playing developed, I realized all these things and I took it into a shop to get it adjusted for thicker strings, tighten the neck, and the bridge locked down. This helped tremendously for keeping it in tune (bottom line: Get the bridge locked down and you won't have a problem). That is out of the way...let me tell you that this is a good guitar. The problems I described above are quite ordinary. I can't imagine more quality for the price. If you're looking for your second or third guitar, this isn't the choice for you. But there's tons of quality here.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The guitar set up was decent, but I had to take it into a shop to get it fully adjusted for it to play really well. The pickup arrangment can be slightly annoying, because with the action set a good height, the pick hits the middle pickup when playing in proper strumming position.
The guitar, however, is really comfortable to play on and the neck is nice and sleek and fast. Good for learning on, and even for intermediate use.

Overall, this is a beginner's guitar and to that end, it works great. I loved this guitar; it was my first electric. The sound isn't amazing, and can be quite uncharacteristic. Only two of the pickup selection positions are even useful (bridge humbucker and one up), and still take a lot of tweaking to get a good, full sound from it.
For the money, though, you get what you pay for and a lot more. Plenty of enjoyment and good durability and decent sounds, all for only 200 dollars. Not a bad deal at all. If you're in the market for your first guitar, don't look anywhere else.

My GSA 60 was made in 2002 in Indonesia. It has 22 frets, laminated top, with one tone and one volume control and a 5 way selector switch. It has an Ibanez Powersound humbucker at the bridge and two Ibanez Powersound single coil pickups. Body is made of Alder, neckl is maple. Has a high gloss black metallic finish that is beautiful. Body style is a stratocaster style with the typical strat string through body and a standard tremelo system. Tuners are sealed, locking type tuners and they work great. The neck is the typical Ibanez thin neck with medium frets. It didn't come with any accessories because I bought it off of ebay, but I purchased a super nice Ibanez gig bag with it that even has a removeable back pack on it!! Great guitar for the bucks.

Like most Americans living in the Philippines, I'm a retired military person, married to a Filipina, so I am quite a bit older than most of the people who review on Harmony Central. I was a teenager during the late 60's and early 70's and still like the music from that era. I write some of my own stuff, which would probably be considered somewhere between blues, rockabilly, electric folk and classic rock, but I love old Cream, Blind Faith, Zeppelin, Sabbath, Stones, Beatles, you know the music of my era. I do like some of the 90's grunge rock, such as Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Creed and some punk stuff like Greenday. Handles all the music styles I play very well and I love the H-S-S configuration. The only amps I've use it on at home are my Marshall MG10CD, VOX Pathfinder 15R and VOX AD15VT (these are the amps most Americans here have, because these brands are all that are available here for the most part. You can get Peaveys but they are made in China and suck). This guitar sounds best on the VOX AD15VT at home. It sounds great on all three amps. It is a versatile guitar by all means, much more versatile than the humbucker versions of the Les Paul in my opinion. This is an excellent guitar sound wise and I have no trouble maxing it out in this department.

I have this guitar, the amps I mentioned above, a Fender made in Mexico Standard Fat Stratocaster, which I put a Duncan Invader humbucker at the bridge, and Vintage Noiseless Pickups at the middle and neck positions Pickups on, a Fender 52 Telecaster, stock, an Epiphone Les Paul Special II, a Squier Standard Stratocaster with Texas Special Pickups, a Squier Standard Telecaster, which I bought because I wanted a Vintage Blonde Telecaster with a Rosewood Fretboard, which I have put Vintage Noiseless Pickups on, an Ibanez GSA20, and RG350, Rockstar Strat, Tele and Les Paul Copies and a Fernando Strat Copy. Like the last reviewer, I also have a Washburn X-21, which is inexpensive but a fuckin good guitar. I've got two Epiphone Acoustic Guitars, one Ibanez Acoustic Electric Guitar, a Washburn Acoustic and a bunch more. I'm addicted to collecting them, and sometimes it's a waste because most of them don't get played. I really love this guitar. Overall it's an 9.

This guitar suits metal pretty well, at least the humbucker does
I use an Ibanez ToneBlaster 25R with it and with this amps overdrive, all hardcore fits in perfectly, too bad for the single coils. When you switch to a clean tone, the humbucker really gives a to agressive impression, so you chose to switch to a single, but then they sound less loud and rather sharp...
The good thing is you can't hear noise or any bad fuzz of the guitar in non-action.

Well, the guitar came in perfectly good state, no flaws in the production, though there is a little twist in the wood of the neck, but it's smoothly polished and you don't notice it.
The neck feels very soft, but at first you can't slide over it well, but after a while this smoothens up. (probably sweat that does the job? :-)

If you don't do crazy stuff with this guitar, I guess it will last some time.
The shining polish contains sort of scratches after a while, and if you touch the guitar (with clean hands or dirty) you always see the spots, thanks to the black finish I have.
If you use this guitar live and a string breaks, you're screwed for the song. The bridge looses some tension and the whole guitar gets tuned completely wrong!!! (I don't really know if this is normal with a bridge with tremolo, maybe let me know)

I play everything from Stevie Ray Vaughan to Metallica and it all suits very well. I play it through a TubeScreamer and a Peavey Rage 158. The guitar is intonated in the local shops and plays now teriffic. Only my Fender plays better. It sounds very good. Especially the bridge humbucker. The sound is full and heavy. Perfect for all kinds of Metal. The Single Coils suits for the clean parts or the blues parts.

A very nice guitar to start your carrier with. But it has te be replaced after 2 a 3 years. Because of the frets and the pickups. You would like a smoother kind of sound.

I didnt like the chrome volume knobs it came with and decided to replace them, but when i pulled the vone knob off, the shaft of the pot ( the thing that attaches to the knob ) came with it! i had to buy another one.

I play pretty much anything, mostly punk, grunge and metal. The amp that i use the gsa60 with is the fender frontman 15r (need to upgrade that =P), and they sound pretty decent together. The guitar isn't too noisy either.
Pickups will probably have to get swapped for Dimarzios sometime in the future.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The nut that came with my guitar was horrible! Fret-buzzing like crazy, action was too high. I assume it's a cheapo plastic nut, because every time i used the tremolo, it would go out of tune. (not even my old squier did that.) After 2 weeks, I couldnt bear it any longer, I bought a Graphtech Tremnut for it, installed it, popped in 5 springs in the back, tada, perfect. I suggest this to all gsa60 owners who have tremolo related tuning issues.
Pickups were adjusted fine, but i lowered the humbucker a little to compensate for the higher output.
The paintjob is fantastic! Glossy, super-shiny, you can see your reflection in it! I've knocked it around abit and still not a scratch. Usual pickmarks but thats inevitable.

The standard strap buttons seem pretty solid, but I wouldn't gig without Dunlop Straploks. I recommend these over the Schaller variety too.
The bridge seems to be holding up, the tuners (most likely Gotohs) keep in tune, and the electronics are pretty darn good. My old squier had much noiser pots and a loose switch. This one on the gsa60 feels very solid.
The finish will definitely last.
Dependable, Giggable, but it'd be stupid to play without a backup.

I haven't been playing long, upgraded to this from a squier. I know the gsa60 is still classified as a beginner model, but with a few upgrades, a few tweaks and it's definitely a keeper.
If it got pinched, I'd bash the thief. And then buy an RG. Maybe a LTD.
I <3 the sexy finish, the chrome hardware, the feel of the neck.
Great bang for buck too. Recommended.

The two single coils provide for a good clean tone, but they arent my favorite singles. The humbucker just seems to sound better the lower you downtune. Strangely enough I really like this stock hum, it has clarity and never fuzzes over.

The factory set this baby up pretty nicely. It actually came in tune right out of the box. Of coarse, youll have to do some adjusting to your own needs. All the hardware is nicely installed, and feels solid. The tuners are OK, and I locked up the trem as a fixed bridge because it got annoying and went out of tune too much.

This guitar would definatly withstand live playing but it would be stupid not to use a backup. For tuning issues, get locking tuners, and thats it. Finish is strong, but i scratched it up. Solid instrument.

very very amazing clean sound with switch on top pickup. distortion sucks so get a new humbucker somthing real nice if you want a cool distortion. or go with a big muff pi pedal or somthing. but if you want an amazing clean guitar go with this.

the finish i had was a silver scratch proof coating. its really nice. but if your a sweaty bastard like me it will get sticky so watch out. the action on mine was high but i didnt lower it it made me solo faster on guitars with lower action. dont ever try to put a whammy bar on this sucker cuz it will go out of tune in a second. but besides using the whammy bar this thing stays in tune really well. the strap buttons on mine always come loose. this guitar is really light. so you can move around alot. and the neck is for people with big ass hands like mine.

The humbucker on this thing is it's strong point. It doesn't compare to my '89 Gibson Les Paul, but it held its own for a while. The single-coils are weak, though, and don't distort well at all. Needless to say, they have nothing on my '84 American Strat's. If the single coils were as strong and distorted as nicely as the humbucker, it would be far more well-rounded. Beyond that, the single coils hum. Humming singles is one of those things that comes with the pickup, but these are worse than most. If they had more guts to them, they could pull off some nice tones, but they're too weak and too noisy to be bothered with. I've played it through my Marshall, a Crate, and a couple of Fenders & other Marshalls with the same effect. For its price, it is better than most beginner guitars, but it doesn't have much use beyond that.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:8
The action came and still is decent enough. It hasn't needed a truss rod adjustment at all which is especially remarkable because of the humid conditions it was sometimes left in. The pickups were set up properly with the right distance from the strings but, as stated earlier, position can't help weak pickups from sounding weak. The folks at Ibanez, even overseas, send their guitars in great condition from my experience.
Reliability/Durability
:5
The strap buttons have caused some chagrin towards Ibanez. After the guitar suffered two short-distance falls to the ground, I took it upon myself to use a buffer between the screw and the wood. Since then, the buttons haven't come loose. The tuning keys aren't the greatest when coupled with the trem, so a dive bomb or even a quaver may knock a string or two out of tune, which is bothersome. Also, the volume and tone knobs are easily removed and I had to glue mine in place. A violent sneeze knocks them loose and, even with their small size and mass, they are a bit painful if they fall on an exposed toe.
If you want to ignore what's important and focus on aesthetics, the paint is on solid. I don't play very hard unless I'm doing "Everlong," but I played with metal picks for a while and they only scratched the finish. It got a good run for its money and was passed along like the town whore between myself and bandmates and there's not a spot on the body that shows the bare wood.
As for gigging without a backup, I have no reason to gig with it anymore. When I did gig with it, it was reliable enough after securing the strap buttons and control knobs to go through the set.

I've been playing a couple of years and have amassed a Gibson LP, an American Strat, a Martin acoustic, a Kawal acoustic, a Marshall, and a dozen or so effects pedals. I only recently have decided to get rid of this guitar because it's just collecting dust. It suited its purpose as a beginner guitar and works very well as such. The weak single coils, the hardware issues, and the tuning instability keep it at the beginner level, though. The humbucker is what you'll probably use and it's excellent for its price.
Bottom Line: If you're looking for a decent beginner guitar for someone just starting out, have a ball. It'll hold its own for a while. It won't put you out too much on cost and it probably won't crap out on you unless you're abusive with it. It's all about the Golden Rule. If you're looking for anything intermediate or above, get a higher end Ibanez or a Jackson or a Fender or a Gibson or something.

My GSA60 was made in 2003 in Indonesia. It has 22 medium sized frets. It has one volume and one tone control and a five way selector. It has two single oils and one humbucker. The bodystyle is agathis. The bridge is like a cheap tremolo effect and if you use it, your strings will be detuned.

It suits my style very good. I play metal music. I use a Peavey Studio Pro 112 amp and a Boss Metal Zone pedal. It is very quiet. It gives off a good sound. It cant give off that many sounds to it but it satisfies me.

I've been playing for about 2 years and this guitar is my favorite. People say its a beginner guitar and I think otherwise. Its a great guitar. I also own a Ibanez GRX720 (7 string). Before buying this, I wish I had a cabinet amp to go with it. I would definitely purchase it again if it were lost. I love the way it plays and the way it looks. I hate the bridge on it and the cheap tremolo. I compared it to other Ibanez's and this one suited me best. I wish it had a way better bridge and two humbuckers.

I bought my Ibanez GSA60 in 2002. It has 22 medium frets on a rosewood fretboard with pearl dot inlays. The body is made of agathis, a cousin of mahogany, which provides decent sustain. The pickups are 2 powersound single coils and a powersound humbucker in an SSH config. The bridge is a standard trem and the tuners are non-locking w/ no locking nut. It's basically an Ibanez fat strat copy.
Sound
:6
I play blues, classic rock, and modern rock(not nu-metal). This guitar suits fairly well to these styles. I'm running it through a Roland Cube30, and can get some decent distorted sounds using the bridge humbucker. But this guitar really preforms best clean. Using the neck or neck and middle pickups I can get some really crisp cleans out of it. If I roll the tone knob back I can even get some mellow jazzy tones. The guitar isn't that noisy, but there is a slight hum which gets annoying, especially when recording.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:7
The setup on this guitar was decent. The action was low and it came w/ a set of 9's. You might have to play w/ the pickups to get the high end to really shine through, but that can be fixed w/ a screwdriver, so no worries there. I've poked around in the trem cavity and electronics, and everything seems to be in order. But the cavities weren't very clean. I did have a problem w/ the saddles. My high e string kept breaking, and I found that it was because of a small metal barb on my high e saddle. The problem could be fixed by sanding it down, but I opted to buy some Graph Tech String Saver Saddles instead. If you play heavy string sets(over 10s)then you will need to pick up some more trem springs, as only two are installed. Other than that, its pretty solid.
Reliability/Durability

Very durable. I've practiced and jammed w/ this guitar and it can stand up to being dropped, hitting walls, and all of the other everyday accidents. The finish is pretty good and isn't wearing off. The strap buttons have never had problems either. I think that I could depend on it to gig, but definetely wouldn't go w/o a backup.

Read other reviews for this, but the thing I have to say is the best about this guitar is that you can find the pickup you need for whatever style or song you are playing. The different pickups vary the sound greatly, and the switching system really has been a bonus.
I love the combination of the RG models and the S series. If you're an Ibanez freak like myself, you can appreciate this. With the slender, aerodynamic neck, you can play fast with no problem. But its more comfortable than the S series model with a thicker body and the standard flat back. This combination in itself makes it the ultimate guitar at its price.
Sound
:10
The sounds, like I said, vary greatly depending on which pickup is used. I usually get a great sound from the humbucker for things like Staind, Deftones, Taproot, and Mudvayne. It has a fuller tone on the humbuckers than the neck, which is great when you want some heavy distortion. With certain settings on my clean pedal, you can get nearly an acoustic simulator with twangy tone on the neck pickup, which is really cool when you want to bust out some acoustic jazz or something. You can play almost everything with this guitar, each with its advantages.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
No complaints here. I got mine in blue, it also comes in black. the place from where I purchased it also offered a custom finish in red or green, but I didn't feel like paying the extra money.
Reliability/Durability
:10
This guitar withstands a lot. I mean, I have dropped it, banged it against the wall, and it has fallen off my guitar stand. It still stands up to this abuse, and still sounds great. I have used it for tons of live gigs, especially when I was first starting in my band.

I own four guitars now, this was my first one, and I still use it for certain songs, because of its ability to play such varied styles. My favorite feature about the guitar would have to be the variety of sounds through pickup switching and its ability to sound great on a heavy distortion, without having problems with clarity, ect.
Also, as described before, the combination of RG series and S series makes it the ideal guitar if you're not satisfied with one. The aerodynamic neck makes it a great play, and the nice body makes it comfortable. Great price, great guitar.

laminated top I believe
you got your volume, tone and some # selector
s/s/h pickup config..no idea on pickup models..there passive
Maple neck, roswood fretboard and(i may be wrong)alder body
Mine was jewel blue...The only other color that ive seen is black
its a "contoured strat" body
regular non-locking trem bridge with the steel saddles
normal "chrome" tuners
Decent neck.Good to start out on..easy to play.Thin and smooth
free picks came with it..as usual with any local/small music store

My own style is a fusion of black/death/speed/thrash/extreme metal.old Slayer, pantera, death, decapitated, old in flames, god dethroned, krisiun, children of bodom, dying fetus, cryptopsy, yngwie, racer x,dissection,at the gates e.c.t..It held me over as I didnt have alot of money at the time.
I used it primarily through some old peavey 2x12 solid state anvil.I used either a dod supra distortion, danelectro t-bone distortion(sucked)or a boss metal zone.Added a little reverb or phase that was built in on the amp.
I played in a small basment full of p.a equipment e.c.t....squeeled like a dying pig,but that was do to me sitting with the amp practicly in my face and all gain knobs cranked...it never did that while practicing in my room.
decent cleans..kinda bassy
you can get flat, milk clean or "overdriven" distortion. Not deep saturated gain.Every sound in between the two are usless.definatley will dissapoint a tone freak fanatic.Good for the price
near the end of its life(before I stripped it,painted it and gave it as a birthday present)the distortion began to dissipate in presence...it got VERY dry, palm mutes sounded hollow and open chords/lead had no sustain. But that was after over a year of serious abuse and neglect.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The usual setup from a local store...not to low or high...
This is all preference
everything was solid and tight...had the classic "loose input jack nut" ive come to accept on all guitars
the finish is thick and tough...will last forever with care

will stand live playing.I played a few partys with it.I used a jackson kelly for more "precious" moments
the hardwares alright...dont use the trem bar to much or it WILL go out of tune. After about a year of solid abuse it began to have tuning stability problems.A dive bomb a day wont help this guitar play.Thats for sure.
the finish it tough... dropped, bumped, slammed, threw the thing around after owning it awhile. After a ton of abuse there only a few chips and dents hardly noticable.
never needed strap locks...Good leather helps...very solid strap buttons
very dependable...I knocked the shit out of it
I would never gig without a backup...strings can break on the best guitars.I never have time to change strings during a gig.

Nothing I love or hate...its ok...best feature it its tough finish.
There wasnt much of a selection where I bought it at the time.I got it cause it was cheap.it was what I could afford.
it could have had 24 frets.
If your reading this and are a beginner/intermediate...you can do better.Pay the extra couple hundred and get a guitar that youll always hold on to and love. This guitar has a purpose..to take a beating and withstand it.Nothing more.go for a jackson. If you dont like locking trems then go for a schecter(there endorsed by some "nu metal" crap bands but they make a great guitar)or even a mid priced esp or b.c rich. Its an overpriced beating taker. If you just need "anything" then go for a kramer focus...Those are cheap enough to use as fancy firewood.
I was limited by selection and needed somthing fast.
If you have choices and dont have to rush...You can do way better

This guitar isn't loaded with features such as locking tuners or anything, but I have my own locking tuners with my name engraved anyways for all my gutiars. It was made in 2003, in USA.
Specs:
22 Frets
Solid Top
1 Vol 1 Tone knob, 5 way switch selector.
s/s/h p-up configuration
active electronics
The neck is maple, ebony fretboard, and Agathis body
The body style is the unigue JS shape by Ibanez
The bridge is Through-the-body tremelo (Ibanez bridge)
Non-locking tuners (Ibanez), but I have my own
The neck is VERY thin, awesome for my style of music (Nirvana type)
I bought this totally seperate from anything, I already had the rest

I play Modern Rock plus Nirvana. This guitar suits my needs cery well, and I must comment on the tremelo. The thing comes out of tune very easy using the trem, but I bought a Locking Nut Piece for 15 Canadian dollars, nothing wrong with that, but the tremelo itself helps you make a nice eerie sound for slow licks, I think ANYONE would find it VERY useful and fun to play around with, but put the selector in position ONE. The sound is VERY smooth, I love it! You have as much variety as it comes with this, but the sound for each type sounds as if the guitar was MADE for that type of music.
I really have no dislikes for this guitar, its my new baby!
Action, Fit, & Finish

The guitar was set up perfect at the factory, I tested it myself (I work in the music store I bought this from). The pick-ups haven't been touched since it came in, and I won't be letting them be touched either. Everything was made fine. The only problems with this was it was in the store for a few months and it has some dirt and crap that is hard to get off.

The finish WILL last, no matter how much I play, its seems like a soft finish, but its not. I put on locking strap buttons because I have my own (with my nam engraved as well!), but they would have lasted.

I have never dealt with Ibanez besides throught the store. They are very nice to the store, and I'm sure they're even better to the customer. It is under warranty, although I need to fill the thing out yet! The warrenty is 2 years on the bridge and stuff.

I've been playing for 4 yrs now, but I've studied all the stuff about how guitars are built and stuff, guitars are like ART to me. I own a Peavey Rage 158, plus the ones we use in the band for gigs. If it were stolen I would hunt the guy down and string him up by his ears. I love the custom color and finish on this guitar, there is nothing I hate about it. I also love the look of the bridge! I would like for this guitar to have some sort of built-in reverb or something, but that's impossible.
This guitar is my new found friend. I bought it myself, and I treasure the thing.

a basic korean series I guess... been made in 2001.
a classical and versatile s/s/h config, ibanez pickups controled by a volume, a tone and a 5-way switch. All the hardware is ibanez-made (strat-style tremolo), the neck (22 frets) is pretty thin and bolt-on, with a rosewood fingerboard. The body has a s-series'shape, is made of agathis and black-finished.
a classical yet good-looking guitar, well equiped.

This is my first guitar. At first I used to play metal, punk and heavy rock: through my korg multi-FX's dist, the humbucker has a quite high output and a great tone (lacks a little definition tough.... but that's normal). Since, I turned more into funk-rock things: I discovered the single coils possibilities. And I really like the intermediate positions of the switch: the sounds are funky and yet pretty warm! Very good for this price range...

good action but crappy strings...not really a problem though.
the finish is really nice but the hardware has some flaws: i already broke a tuning peg and the strap-locks are loose... bummer for a so good guitar!

I did a lot of rehearsals with it (in bad conditions), I traveled with it, played in a train with it.... and I can tell you it's hard as a rock! the finish is thick, there's just the hardware problem I already mentionned.

Its great advantage: a very comfy and playable neck. It's jusy a pleasure to play on it!
To sum up, it's a perfect first guitar: great looks, great neck, good versatility.... It's just way better than squier strats or yamaha pacificas for the same price ( I've tried'em!)

The music styles that can come out of the amp when playing on this guitar are so varied. I play mostly nU-metal and the tones sound excellent. When on the humbucker pickup, you get a great, meaty distortion sound. The Neck Pickup provides great clean sounds, and have a clear tone.

The ibanez gsa 60 is a nice guitar, like all guitars it has stronger and weaker points.
mine was made in indonesia. aghatis body as discribed in other reviews, and a maple neck. It was my first guitar, and i'm still glad i bought a ibanez. For this money i'm positive it's the best guitar out there.
thin frats and a thin neck. Maybe a bit to thin, this gitar is (i think) mainly played by beginning guitarists, and it's easier to learn how to play with a wider neck with a bit more space between the strings.
Though when you get used to it it's a nice and fast neck.
Anyway for this amound of money and compared to concurrents round the same price i'll have to give it an 8.
Sound
:7
as I told before i bought it as my first guitar so i didn't really hava a style I was focused on. I took lessons and learned how to play it. The sound I still find nice, it's got a warm tone but if you pusch the five way switsh to the back you'va got a good sound for rock solo's. so there's enough variety in tone's. also this guitar isn't made for only one sound, you can play anything on it and still make it sound good.
I give the sound a 7 because i like it but it is of course no extraordinairy beautiful sound.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The setup from the factory was as well as you can expect for the money, no complains at all. My guitar had no flaws ar all on it. I've got a special finish on it wich is far nicer than the three standart colors you can see on the site, black yellow and blue i believe. Well mine has a dark green finish.
The sction was way to high making it almost impossible for a beginner to do high bends.
After a few month's i got a problem woth the strap button on the bottom of the guitar, it got loose. I got it repaired (for free)the cause of this is the wood wich is a bit to soft.
Also after a wile one of the tuners on the headstock started to buzz a bit when I play chords. no major problem but a bit annoying.
Reliability/Durability

I expect this guitar to last a very long time if treated right of course. I've played it without backup on gigs and i will do it again.
It just feels solid, nice and not anything, like a cheap guitar.

Last month I got a new guitar. Another ibanez, this time a semi acoustic as73bs, a bit of advice here; if you doubt about buying the gsa and you've got a bit more money check the as73 first, this guitar's sound and looks are fabulous!!!

First, I want to say that I have been a faithful Fender man for over 30 years, however, Ibanez has taken me away from Fender. Why? Better guitar for less money. Pure and simple. It didn't come with any accessories but I purchased a super nice Ibanez gig bag with it that even has a removeable back pack on it!! Great guitar!! Puts a Fender strat to shame.
Sound

Suits my music style just fine, which is everything from classic rock, to country, to a Steve Earle type rockabilly to Gospel. I even get my heavy metal moods once in awhile and this guitar is killer for that. I have three amps I use it with, a Marshall MG30CDR, a Peavey Rage 158 and an Ibanez TB15R. Sounds great on all three amps, like it with the Peavey best, but that is just because Peavey amps are my favorite. This guitar is absolutely noiseless even on the single coils. Has a nice bright sound on the bridge humbucker, and you can get a good "tele" style twang out of it. 2d Position is great for metal leads, middle position great for classic rock, 4th and 5th positions great for blues and jazz. I can make any sound I want from this guitar and the sustain is incredible. You can go from Chet Atkins to Metallic with the flick of a switch. I love everything about it.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
Guitar was setup perfectly right out of the box, action nice and low like I love it with absolutely no fretbuzz. Ibanez does better at this than anyone else as far as I am concerned. The necks are always like butter and play like a dream. Pickups were adjusted perfectly. No flaws at all that I can see.
Reliability/Durability

It will definitely withstand live playing. Got it originally as a backup to my Fender Tele and this one has become the main axe and the tele is now the backup. Great guitar all the way around. Hardware is tough, strap buttons solid as a rock, very dependable. Solid guitar all the way around. No one in their right mind would gig without a backup.

I've been playing for 35 years and until recently was an avid Fender fan. Ibanez has taken my heart though. I also have a Fender Standard Telecaster and an Epiphone Acoustic Guitar as well as the amps mentioned above. I compared this guitar to basically every other guitar in this price range when I bought it, and this one won out hands down. If it were stolen or lost, I would cry and go get another one. I love everything about it, and especially love the humbucker/single/single coil configutation on this guitar. I chose this guitar because it is solid as a rock. This is the best bang for the buck out there in this price range. Puts the Fender Mexican Strats and Tele's to shame.

I play mainly grunge and other early 90's alternitive styles. I like the way it sounds with Peavey amps but not Fenders and it sounds ok with Marshals. With the right distortions it will sound right for alot of Alice in Chains(except for Jerry's cool solo's) , Soundgarden, and Smashing Pupkins,Nirvana. It doesnt sound that good for Pearl Jam. My amps arnt the best so that might have something to do with it.

The strings on this guitar come out of tune very easily. It is kind of hard to tune because of this. Some of the hardware is a little loose but it doesnt bother me that much. The strap buttons are annoying and crappy. The neck is very thin wich might bother you if your other guitars have thick necks or your hands are big. My hand are small so it is good for me would probubly be good for other girls and women.

This Guitar was built in 2001 (China). It's got the typical Ibanez - S - Body (thin around the edges, but thicker at the neck, pickups and bridge) which isn't made of Mahogany like the more expensive ones, but of agathis. Some German magazines said, it sounds similar to mahogany, basswood or poplar. Really a light guitar (3,2 kilos).
It's got a slim one - piece maple neck (Ibanez calls it "GSA neck"), Rosewood fretboard, 22 medium frets and dot inlays. In my view, the neck is REALLY slim - okay, it's fast, but I like other necks better. I haven't got small hands and maybe a S - Classic neck would be better for me. The headstock's black - always (black's beautiful :).
H - S - S Pickups, Ibanez Powersound 2 Ceramic Humbucker at the bridge, two Ibanez Powersound Alnico Singlecoils in the middle and neck position. Strat - style 5 way pickup selector switch. One volume, one tone knob. Chrome hardware. Six non - locking tuners. Vintage vibrato. Mine came with D'Aquisto strings (.009 - .042 / .046) Too small strap holders. Mine is black, but you can get it in Jewel Blue and Butterscotch Transparent, too. 8 because it's got H - S - S pickups, it's light and it looks great. Not a 10 because the neck's f***ing slim, it hasn't got a better vibrato (either a real one or a stoptail) and it can't go and fetch beer. ;)
Sound
:7
I play almost everything - that rocks, of course. From Alternative, Blues, 60s - Classic - Rock and Grunge to Indie, Metal, HeavyRock and Punk. No NuWhateverMetal, no Country - but at the moment, my teacher wants me to play some Jazz. . . :(
I mostly play Grunge, especially Nirvana and Alice in Chains. I also love many other Grunge (Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Hole, . . . ), some HeavyRock and Metal ('tallica, Black Sabbath, Tool) and Alternative (Sonic Youth, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Dave Navarro) bands. I use a Marshall Guv'nor II, a Boss DS - 1 and an Electro Harmonix Small Clone Chorus. My amps a SolidState Marshall G80 RCD i'll hopefully replace soon. But this guitar's got some great sounds: The neck Singlecoil is quite bassy, but also bright. It's great for clean rhythm (played AiC "Rooster" with some Chorus - sounds like the original) and Hendrix - esque lead stuff ("Hey Joe" Intro). You can also get some dark and punchy distortion sounds, great for Mudhoney songs. As for blues, it sounds even better with the middle singlecoil. The middle singlecoil all alone sounds a little bit sharper, middier than the neck one. Not that great. Together with the neck - coil of the humbucker, it puts out some "jingle - jangle" sound. I use it almost never. The bridge humbucker's got a whole lotta output. It's got a dark and muddy sound. It's going to be replaced soon - with a Duncan SH - 4, I think. I don't like Ceramic 'buckers that much. The vibrato - well, if you use it VERY carefully, the strings stay in tune. If you don't, they don't. If you bend and dive like Jerry Cantrell, it'll soon sound . . . strange. The strings get out of tune quite easily. I use .010 - .046 GHS Guitar Boomers (Eb tuning) and when you tune the guitar, the G,B and E strings hang in the nut. I'm gonna buy a better saddle soon. All in all, it get's a 7. The neck singlecoil gives you some great clean and rhythm distortion sounds and the bridge humbucker is still better than singlecoil at the same position. The split sounds are hum - cancelling. It sounds like a fat, modern Strat. I don't really like the vibrato, the sound of the bridge humbucker and the saddle.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:8
The guitar looks great and more expensive than it was. The finish is strong and great - as well as the frets and volume / tone controls. I replaced the strap holders with some better ones made by Schaller. Now it doesn't fall down any longer . . . I also replaced the poti heads and bought some black Strat - style ones. The action was quite alright. As already described above, the vibrato doesn't stay in tune very well. I think I'll have to replace the jack soon 'cause it doesn't like all of my cables. It gets fingerprint marks easily, but who cares? Cleaning it once per week is enough. 8 because of the vibrato and the jack.
Reliability/Durability
:8
If you don't use the whammy bar, it does stay in tune. Even if you strike the strings hard. It's a great live guitar because of its weight. I gigged with it once and it held up well. You can really depend on it.
Customer Support
:8
Okay, they haven't got a German website and the manual's only in English, too. Not a problem for me, maybe for some ohter guys and gals. I ordered it more than a year ago and the dealer told me I had to wait about 1 1/2 months for it - but after one week, I plugged it into my amp. They seem to be nice folks.

Okay, this is a nice guitar for beginners and experienced beginners. Is it better than a squier? It's different. Would I buy it again? I'd save the money and buy a Fender Mexico Fat Strat. But this guitar is really versatile. It's got a beautiful clean sound and with a better bridge humbucker, a fatter neck and either a stoptail or a REAL vibrato (maybe the new SAT - 10 is better) it would be perfect.

This was my first guitar. The stock pickups are weak and muddy, and require a good stompbox to liven up. I play mostly classic rock, metal, blues, etc. It's tone sucks, and the front single coils were too weak to bother with. My amp is a semi decent Peavey, with a Jim Dunlop Wah, Boss DS-1. As I said, a beginner guitar.

I play mainly rock/heavy and some blues now and then. I play without any effects right in to an Tech 21 Trademark 10 combo, which I recently bought. With it I can dial in about every imaginable tone from Judas priest to B.B King. Before the trademark I played trough an old 10 watt Fender practice amp and the difference is huge.. The GSA sounds very nice trough the trademark 10 though it lacks a bit in sustain and tone compared to some guitars I tried to play with the Trademark 10. But of course one can not compare the GSA to an PRS or a Jackson that costs 5-10 times more than it....
The pickups are suprisingly nice though they lack just a bit of crunch and harmonics aren`t as easy to play than with some other guitars. Great value for the money though.
The nice think about the pickup configuration is that you can get a nice chunky tone from the bridge pickup and then switch to the neck pickup for some blues-style sounds.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The guitar was set-up just perfectly in the store where I bought it. (Levytukku OY) The action was (is) excellent, no fret buzz etc.. Just perfect.
The finish is nice, though I would have liked a black one. (they were out of stock) It seems guite durable, it has taken a few knocks but still looks like new.
The neck is great for an guitar in this price range (Ibanez doesn`t make an unplayable neck, it is said) It feels very fast and is perfect for my hands (which are guite "normal" I think) I`ve tried several guitars that belong to my friends and many different guitars in different stores. (I`m looking for an guitar with an Floyd rose trem) Only other Ibanez models feel as good to my hands and I think I`m going to buy an RG next year. The playability of the GSA is great in my opinion.
Reliability/Durability
:8
I haven`t played live so its difficult to say whether this guitar would stand live playing. I would propably like a guitar with a little better tone for live performances. Other than that I dont see why you couldn`t play live with the GSA.
The only "flaw" I can think of in this guitar is that if you use the tremolo really heavily, the guitar _will_ get out of tune. This is more an inherent feature of a standard tremolo without stringlocks at the nut (I`m not guite sure what they are called..) than a real flaw... If you want to make some cool divebomb sounds and such, get a guitar with an floyd rose tremolo.

I played classical guitar on and off for a year before I got the Ibanez six months ago. After getting an electric I`ve really gotten into playing guitar and play for 2-4 hours a day now. I thing the GSA is an excellent guitar for an beginner and _great_ value for the money. It saves in just the right departments: the wood used in the body and in the pickups (both of which lack a bit compared to more expensive models) but keeps the excellent playability of the more expensive models. All in all a great guitar for an beginner. The neck is a pearl!
I think this guitar could last with me for a long time but i`m looking for a guitar with a Floyd Rose and better pickups. I`ll propably buy an Ibanez RG.

It is really noisey with the single coils and it only sounds good on the humbucker by the bridge which is bad for me cause I play rythim i cant spell it right sorry. which is why I am going to put in a hot rails humbucker thing in the neck position

Made in Indonesia not sure what year, the usual for mid price ibanez with 22 frets, bolt on maple neck i think with a rosewood fretboard i hope. The body's made from alder not sure what it is , the pickups are passive s/s/h , The standard trem system is as always, Retuning the strings everytime u use it, that's about all i can remember bout the guitar anyway got it in jewel blue it came with an offer with an amp and bag
Sound
:8
It goes well with most kinds of music and the medium frets make it good for solos or cord play. I play it through a peavey rage 158 amp which came with a package anyway the pickups are bareable but i plan to change th humbuckers to get a more rounded tone nothing really good or bad bout it's sound except that it buzzes which turned out to be the amp which was not earthed
Action, Fit, & Finish
:6
The action was to low which caused the frets to buzz but after ajusting the action it's ok now... the guitar has a smaller body compared to the other ibanez rg's which makes it light and is good because i like to jump around when i play anyway the finish is ok but the body scratches easily and i noticed a small gap betheen the neck and the body i would have given it a nine if it was not for the poorly finished neck which also had stray drops of lacquer on it and if the neck was better polished above the first fret towards the headstock
Reliability/Durability
:7
I've only got this guitar for a few days but so far it looks like it should last the strap buttons are solid and sofar it looks like it's doing a good job i would most likeley bring it to a gig with a backup if i had one bacause things can happen but so far it looks like a strong guitar which has withstood a few knocks so far
too bad the finish scratches easily....

Overall it is a good beginners guitar which could have been better if it came with a h/s/h/ config but it's light and comfortable which makes up for the really annoying easy to scratch finish.... if it were stolen, i think i would get a better guitar but for now, it has earned itself a pickup change

Made in Indonesia. The neck has 22 frets, which is not a big deal to me. There is one volume, one tone, and a 5 way selector for the S/S/H configuration of the pickups. The neck is bolt-on, with a skunk stripe down the middle. Very light guitar, very slim body. The bridge is simple, and not very well made. It came with the action set pretty high, and both the neck and bridge required substantial adjustment before it could be comfortably played.
Sound
:8
The humbucker produces a nice crunch for a guitar in this price range. I rarely use the single-coils but they do produce nice bright highs, both individually and combined. I have been playing it through an Ibanez IBZ10 practice amp with a Boss MT-2 distortion pedal. Overall good tone, a fine sounding instrument.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:5
The action was set terribly high as I stated before, I had to adjust both the bridge and the truss rod in order to bring the action down to a comfortable zone. The pickups were adjusted quite well at the factory however, I had to raise the humbucker just ever so slightly. Also, all of the pickups needed to be blown out with air duster as there was still some sawdust around them.
Reliability/Durability
:5
Pretty durable guitar, I don't know that I'd gig with it, however it will be my backup. The bridge and pickups would need to be replaced before this could be an instrument for live playing, and even then it would only be to "get by."

It is has 22 frets and has a strat body style, my copy is jet black not the jewel blue. It had two single coil pick-ups and a humbucker. It came with a standard trem bar. Pretty much read any other description on this list and you will get the same list of features. All you really need in an electric guitar for rhythm or lead (in my opinion).
Sound
:9
I play a lot of blues and rock. My guitar idols are David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Steve Wilson (Porcupine Tree), Steve Rothery (Marillion), and of course Justin Hayward (Moody Blues) who I began playing guitar because of. I use Danolectro Compression run through a Danolectro Echo then straight into a Ibanez Tone Blaster which I usually play clean (but sometimes use the built in Overdrive and Reverb). I haven't had any problems with extra unwanted noise, and the sound is DEFINITELY bright. Most certainly not the warmest of sounds. Just play some Santana ("Black Magic Woman") on this sucker and you will be blown away by how nice it sounds for such a low price tag.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:8
I'd like to note first, I am VERY careful with my guitar and clean it and case it after EVERY usage. The factory setup was nice, however I did get the guitar serviced once before using it too heavily. However, I used it three days before the servicing with NO noticeable problems; just needed tuning, but who would expect a guitar to be properly tuned right out of the store? The factory pickups seem fine, no problems thus far in this department (and I have had this guitar almost 4 months as of this review). The finish is a beautiful glossy black, however, it is a bit too glossy because finger prints collect criminally fast and are a real pain to remove; it also scratches REAL easy. One other problem is the plastic cap on the pickup selector, it keeps popping off but this is no major concern as it can be easily reapplied. The neck is VERY nice and makes for great action. Only one problem is the damn thing goes out of tune something awful when using the trem bar in soloing, so I often solo without the trem bar. Other than using the trem bar, it keeps tune VERY well.
Reliability/Durability
:9
This guitar is VERY durable and would withstand live playing, possibly without a back-up but this is never adviseable no matter what guitar you own (all the small, unpredictable problems pop up especially if you have bad luck). The hardware seems dependable thus far and Ibanez makes solid guitars so I have faith it will last if taken care of. As I said before the finish fingerprints easily and scratches almost as easy (this is why it gets a '9'). The strap buttons are monsters and will not come off for the world. I can depend on this guitar most certainly and strongly recommend it to anyone who needs a good, affordable guitar.

Overall Rating

The overall rating was decided by taking all the other ratings, adding them up and dividing them by the number of them there were. I own a Yamaha F-335 Acoustic on top of this one, but other electrics I have used include Starfire by DeArmond, Dot & Les Paul by Epiphone, Fender Strats, and Dano 12 Strings, Yamaha Pacific (strat model). This guitar is, in my opinion, just as nice as all of the other guitars I've tried. If this guitar were stolen I most certainly would replace it as it is affordable and durable. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable electric that is versatile.

it plays pretty well for the type of music i play which is mostly deftones and pantera, the pick ups could be better the single coils have a very strange sound to them and there very high output, but the humbucker is quite good it offers nice harmonics, but all these problems wont bother you if you play through a pedal i play thru a zoom 505 and a marshall mg-15 so it sounds pretty good, the gsa can also be quite versatile its good for metal, punk, rock, thrash,if your really good like my friends are you can play some good blues on it

Made fairly recently, in some 3rd world country. 22 frets. 1 volume 1 tone 5-way selector, S/S/H, Cheap Ibanez Powersound, body is agathis (similar to mahogany my ass), standard tremelo, maple neck and rosewood fingerboard.
Sound

I play everything from heavy blues to black metal. I guess it suits my style ok. I've used various amps with this Peavey Supreme, Peavey Blazer, Peavey Classic, ENGLs. This guitar is pretty damn noisey, the single coils hum and buzz like there is no tommorow. They also seem to pickup other electronic noises very easily (power tools, cd players, fans), but this is pretty much standard for single coils. The neck single coil has a pretty good bassy rhythm sound. Good for clean passages. The neck/middle split sounds pretty awful. The middle single coil sounds pretty much like the middle, except it's a bit less bassy, and ok for leads. The middle/bridge sounds pretty awful too. The bridge humbucker has a very harsh high end and the bass is really muddy. Awful awful clean, but ok with distortion. The only problem with the distortion is if you crank the humbucker it will give you microphonic feedback. So overall 2 ok single coils and one poor humbucker. I'd say this guitar can cover almost any sound you'd want, unless you play country, funk or ska etc.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:7
Every thing came ok, but I'm sure the store made some adjustments before it went on the shelf. Overtime the pickup selector has become a bit scratchy, but the tone and volume pots have been ok. The finish only has 1 major scratch. The neck feels really really nice. I suppose this the one really high point on this guitar. The fretboard is ok. REMEMBER THIS IS A ROSEWOOD FINGERBOARD, SO IF YOU WANT MAXIMUM TONE YOU SHOULD OIL IT WITH LEMON OIL TWICE A YEAR.
Reliability/Durability
:8
It's a good solid guitar and would probably withstand live playing. I've never had any major problems with this guitar. The finish will probably last for 5 or 10 more years. The strap bottoms are pretty average. I'd probably depend on this guitar, it's only $200 so you don't have to watch over it like a Les Paul. I think I might gig with out a back up.
Customer Support
:5
The Ibanez guys are ok. They're a big company so you really can't expect too much personal support. I think the warranty was for a year or two.
Overall Rating

I've been playing for 2 years and this was my first guitar. I really don't use any effects, and I plug it straight into my Peavey Supreme (with a 4x12). There's no way I'd buy another beginners guitar agian. It's an above average beginners guitar, I mean it's not going to restrict your playing. I like the reliability and the neck. I don't like the electronics, the awful pickups, and the cheap wood. If you're a beginner this would be a good choice. It's moderately priced and sounds ok.

Made in 2000 in Indonesia, beautiful blue finish, 22 frets. 1 Volume knob, 1 tone knob and a 5 way selector for the pickups (2 single coils and a humbucker). Pickups are Ibanez stock. The single coils are useless for distortion, they just get too damn muddy, but the humbucker makes upfor this with a good distorted tone, which covers all kinds of music i play (mostly punk, some straight rock, bit of heavy metal and a smidgin of nu-metal. The single coils do have a use though; turn the distortion right down and the bass and theres a good clean sound there. The bridge is a standard vintage tremolo, which stays in tune reasonably well, as long as you don't try to octave dive bomb with it(i don't use it much in songs anyway). Tuners are no-name no non locking. One of the best features of the guitar is the neck. Its great. Its really thin fast, and easy to play (i can't play my friends strat now because of it, but i don't care, i don't like strats anywho) I got it with an amp, soft case, cable and about 10 plecs for #210 pounds (the guitar was #179), which in my opinion is a bargin. I've customised my guitar with stickers, and i'll post a picture as soon as i have one. I'm also going to change the pickups, when i have enough money. If anyone has any ideas what pickups i should get, please e-mail me at adam_is_my_name@hotmail.com

Like i said before, it suits my style of music well(mostly punk....) I have a 10W Leem practise amp at home, but in school i use a 90W Fender duel reverb with a footswitch to for the volume. It sounds great through both of them. But the single coils are awful distorted, and i mostly play distorted. The humbucker's more than good enough, and is acctully quite bright, but i'd like some variation
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
I'm not an expert at this, but it sounded fine to me when i got it. No faults of any kind. The finish seems very thick and strong.
Reliability/Durability

I've played with this guitar live once, and it held up well. I had some tuneing problems that nite, which hadn't happened or since. I play quiet agressivly, so that might be the reson. The strap buttons are solid, and i'm going to get some dimarzio strap locks, when i find a music shop that sells them. I can depend on it, but i'd allways take my Dearmond M-65 (which i tune to Drop D for the songs i use Drop D for, but i could tune it back pretty quickly), just incase.

This may not be a top of the line S-series, but its got the body which i love, and the pickups, even though the single coils are crap, are good enough. If this was stolen, it hunt the guy down, and smack my M-65 over his head.

The Ibanez GSA60 is of solid value. Made in Japan this S-series body is made of agatis, a japanese wood similar to alder, the wood of The Fender Strat. This Ibanez is also similar to the Fender Stratocaster by sharing its shaped and styled body. GSA60 has one single-coil neck pickup, one single-coil mid pickup, and a bridge humbucker. The pickup switch has five positions, with the second(combined neck and mid) and the fifth(the bridge humbucker) being the most quiet, allowing you to reckognize the standard tremolo system. The neck consists of one peice maple, with 22 rosewood frets, inlaid with pearl fret dots. The head is laminated and is black, no matter what color you choose. On the body are two unmarked, chrome-plated knobs, a tone and volume. High Value. List Price: $299 Common Price: $199
Comes in Jewel Blue or Black. Laminated Finish.
note: when ordered in Musicians Friend, comes with Wammy Bar, Extra Spring, and Amplifier Cable. $199

The sound is pretty rich and is nice and smooth. I really dont have a style so it doesn't pertain to any of them. Noisy and settings-- first category. The guitar doesn't have a whole lot of variety, but with a distortion pedal or effects pedal, it can do what you want it to. I use the GSA60 with a Fender Ultimate Chorus Amp and a Korg Toneworks Guitar Hyperformance Processor, making the possibilities, almost unlimited.

I dont do any live playing, seeing that i am an...experienced beginner if you will... but for hard playing, (i do that a lot) it holds up and stays in tune fairly well. I've been playing for 5 days,(i'm only 13) but i've watched my dad play for 5 years. I use my father's equipment. I believe i would buy this again, if it were stolen. The best thing about this Ibanez, is being able to get a good solid, S-series, while maintaining a budget. However, the variety on this is not large, which may require additional supplies. I didn't really compare it to other guitars. I've had a chance to play some of my fathers, but those aren't even close to my pricerange, so i did play some other S-series.

Made in Indonesia, 22 frets, gorgeous gloss black finish that picks up fingerprints easily, nothing a piece of soft cloth won't fix; came with 2 knobs, one for volume, one for tone, S/S/H configuration; body made of agathis, rosewood fretboard, strat style body; 6 point tremolo, nonlocking tuners. I only got the guitar, no package, but I bought other stuff with it, like my amp and picks and such...

Yeah, this guitar sounds pretty awesome. I am a beginner, and some friends of mine played it and it sounded sooo awesome. I have a Peavey 15 watt amp, a little buzz as you turn up the distortion, but if I move it sounds better. Now that I FINALLY got it tuned (thanks Phil!!) the sound is crisp and sharp. Right now, since I've only been playing 3 weeks I love it, the only thing thats bothers me is that it gets fingerprint marks easily.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:8
The action is pretty good, the strings are a little crappy but I'll replace them soon. No flaws as of yet. The tone knob looks like it wants to fall out, but I dinked around with it a bit and it seems pretty firm in the body, so I am not too worried about it now.

I think this guitar could withstand live playing, as my friends were banging around on it and it sounded awesome and it didn't fall apart. Strap buttons are solid, not too worried about them

This is an update on a previous review- Agatis Body, Rosewood fingerboard, 22 frets, H-S-S, 6 point tremolo, volume and tone controls. 2000, made in Indonesia. powersound pickups. That gorgeous jewel blue finish still. 9 because it has all u want for a budget guitar, but no locking tremolo or coil tapping which u would have on a higher model.
Thin neck, great for lead, very playable.
Sound
:8
I play anything from rock to blues to alt and back again- mainly lead stuff. I play at the moment through a crybaby into a Marshall Valvestate 30R. It has a 5 way selector switch, so I'll go through each of the sounds.
Humbucker selected- crisp, very clear highs, gets muddy with distortion. It's bright, doesnt pick up harmonics well. Virtually noiseless.
H and middle S - very noisey so I never use it
Middle S also very noisey I never use it.
Middle S and Neck S - almost noiseless- very clean- I brought the pickups a lot closer and now they are very bitey. With large amounts of distortion very muddy, with small amount of gain gets very fuzzy as if you have the guitar noise completely seperate from the distortion. When clean, sounds very nice though.
Neck pickup I use lots for single note leads, noisey but only when near too much electrical equipment, it is mostly fine. Very nice for playing acoustic pieces as well (like Tears In The Rain, I play that quie a bit)
I would like it to have two huymbuckers, coil tapped but frankly you are unlikely to get that on a guitar of this price.
With my friend's Vox AC15 I can get some very neat Clapton esque tones with new strings.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:8
I dont remember from when I bought it- quite recently I gave it a very thorough set up, anbd everything works fine- even the tremolo stays in tune with near octave drops if you set it right- which admittedly is hard.
As i say earlier I have moved the pickups a lot closer and now get a lot more output- the neck p/u will probably fall out if I move it any closer.
The finish as remained excellent, frets and neck are fine, very slight chip on bottom cutaway.
Internal wiring looks quite messy, the volume and tone controls came loose, the volume now works fine but the tone controls completely gone. This is not too bad though since I have a wah pedal.
I've given it 8 all the same because of the playability of it thanks to the tremolo.

Everything apart from the tone control has lasted fine and I believe will still last. One of the strap buttons came half undone but I've fixed that.
I've gigged with it without backup and will continue to do so if neccessary.

No idea about that, if it fell apart I'd have an excuse to buy a better one from my bank account.

I chose this guitar because of the great neck, which remains great. I havent replaced the pickups like I said I would earlier because I'm still unsure of what to do after I get my tubescreamer next month.
I can get more tones out of this than my fellow band guitarists gibson LP studio and vox ac15 combination, this sounds great through a tube amp.
If it were stolen or lost I might consider getting a Kramer online - seemingly lots of bang for the buck. But hopefully I'd persuade my parents into letting me get a much much higher Ibanez model, like a JS100. I would treat that like royalty.

Two single pickups, one humbucker. 5 pickup changers, 1 volume 1 tone, sweet jewel blue finish and fits the feel of a live playing guitar.
Sound

Humbuckers great for hot deep rock chords and solos. Rage against the machine and red hot chilli peppers sound good, easy to move around on. I use a wa for now but will be buying a distortion petal box soon, and i use penvey practice amp for now but will be buying a live amp soon too. It sounds great, tone when turned up can crack an eardrum really good for live playing again. The sound is deep and full, if someone else were to play it you would fall asleep listening to it's melodically controled very well.

It was set up wonderfully at the factory no adjustments were needed. Everything is working perfectly after a year of playing it.

It can stand and kick the ass out of live playing and the hardware will last, fretboard well developed so that strings do not need to be replaced all of the time. Strap buttons and finish are sturdily there for life, and i most absolutely can depend on playing it at a gig without a backup.

I have playing for 2 years, i own an ibanez acoustic. I wish i had bought a better amp because it would be hard to play live with mine, it does not have great gain. I would probably buy another ibanez model if it were stolen or lost because id like to try other models. I love the way i can slide so easilly around the frets and play cover songs the way they originally sound. I dislike the fact that it can go out of tune easily, and i would now prefer if it had a double humbucker and volume controls for the pickups like a gibson, still for the price it is one helluva guitar. Buy an ibanez if you are starting out like i was or if you want a good sturdy guitar for live playing and practicing and with a price like it has not a big deal if lost.

Made in Indonesia. H-S-S pickups, 5 way pickup selector, 1 volume control, and 1 tone control. Nice fast neck, perfect machine heads, amd 6 point fulcrum (more trouble than it's worth). This guitar is amazinly well weighted, and extremely light. A beutiful Jewel Blue finish.

I bought this guitar in May, I have only just gotten use to the bassy sound (compared to my old, shit, guitar). I go from the guitar to a series of Boss pedals, a DS-2, BF-2 and PH-2 (in that order) to my shitty amp. The humbucker at the bridge is bright compared to the single coils in the mid and neck positions. The single coils are great for emotional pieces. I have found that the humbucker is the only pickup that sounds good distorted (at least for my tastes).

This guitar looks good, feels fucking awesome, and most importantly plays good. My only problem is the 6 point fulcrum tremelo, you have to tune the guitar after using it only slightly. The speed of the neck is perfect for me and the neck is really comfortable.

I have never dealt with Ibanez directly, but the dealer was helpful when I found the guitar was faulty.

I have been playing for about 3-4 years, this is the first guitar I bought with my own money. Next year I will either be replacing or supplememting this guitar with an Ibanez RG or S. Overall I recommend this guitar to anyone on a tight budget, amazing quality for the price.

Made in Indonesia. 22 frets. volume, tone, 5-way lever pickup selector. S-S-H configaration. Agathis body with Maple bolt-on neck. Black in color. Strat style body but without the pickguard. Jumbo frets with Ibanez cable, strap , tools, tremolo and a Hom gig bag.

I play mostly Black/Death/Heavy Metal and Grunge. This guitar suits my style quite well. I use this guitar with my Squier 15 watts amp. It is not too noisy with distortion unlike the Squier Affinity Series Strat that I once used. It is definately the guitar for someone playing Metal, Alternative or Punk.

The finish is superb. Everything, from the tuning keys to the bridge is flawless. So far nothing has happened to my guitar. My previous guitar, Squier Strat, had rusting tuning keys and bridge. Even the tremolo came loose and the poplar body CRACKED!

This guitar is definately for live gigs. However, so far I did not have any gigs. The light weight and the contour of the guitar is comfortable. It doesn't poke you into the ribs when you are rocking hard on stage. The strap buttons secures the strap without coming off. I think I can depend on it but I would prefer a backup.

I have been playing this guitar for a short time. I own a Squier Strat, a Squier 15 watts amp, an Asahi folk guitar and a Yamazuki classical guitar. If this guitar were stolen or lost, i will definately get another same guitar. I simply love the sound. I don't hate my guitar, because i play it everyday! That's all

22 frets, Agatis body, made in indonesia. One volume control, one tone control, 5 way selector switch for H-S-S configuration. Passive electronics, Powersound pickups. Lovely Jewel blue finish. Like a rounded strat, but thinner, less bulky. Don't know what tuners, "standard 6 point fulcrum tremolo" about it
Sound

I haven't had a chance to try it on a tube amp yet, but it gives nice sound, not much inteference. I would like nicer pickups, I'll upgrade them in a while.
I've had trouble keeping strings in tune, probably related to the tremolo. Or maybe the strings hadn't been played in poperly.

I think this is an excellent budget guitar. It's my first electric but I've played many "better" guitars, and this is my favourite neck that I've played. Once I replace the pickups this will sound very nice. Very good for the price

This guitar is made in Indonesia, Jan 200 model. 22 frets I think... It has a volume and a tone control, and also a 5 way selector... The configuration is SSH The neck is made of rosewood Finish is jewel (metalic) blue (it is offered also in black), and the body is strat-style Accesories: cable, spring for the tremolo, and allen keys...

At the moment i havent enjoyed it that much, as i dont have an amplifier (not enough money) not eiter a pedal, so i am playing through some crappy multimedia speakers.... So i can't tell you anything about it. I have played a bit on a Vox amp, for 10 mins, so i couldn't make any decision....

The action was quite high, and the intonation, wasn't done properly Everything else was ok and i had no problem... When i go back to Greece, i will have it done a proper intonation...

Its seems a very reliable guitar... As it has fallen sometimes down from my bed, and nothing was happened! Anyway, i have never played live to know if you are going to depend on it... I think yes ;)
