Mine is 2007 MIJ, of course with 24 frets, HSH config. 5-way selector and master volume and tone control.
Pickups are passive DiMarzio and not only "designed by dimarzio" like some cheaper models. These are actually made by dimarzio specially for ibanez. They are pretty hot, bridge is somewhat like Super Distortion and I can't compare neck with anything...
body is basswood finished in galaxy black (just another name for flaked black). Neck is 5 piece maple with two thin stripes of walnut. It looks very well built and stable. I've had this guitar for 2 years now and don't have any issues with the neck.
Bridge is edge pro and it's awesome.
Tuners are gotoh non locking.
Neck is thin but not very thin. It's similar to Jem neck and thicker than rg550 reissue model. Frets are huge.
It came in a nice prestige case. Basic setup tools (wrenches) are included and that's it.
I have installed tremol-no to make it easier to switch tunings and stuff. It's a bit pain to setup but it's not bad. Other than that mod it's all stock.

I've had this guitar for two years now and it became my main guitar.
Use it mainly for playing heavier stuff like Satriani, Vai, Dream Theater. It covers that ground pretty well. 5 way selector is wired pretty cool. 1st and 5th position are humbuckers and they are great for heavier stuff. 2nd and 4th are combination of middle pickup with one coil of humbuckers. Both of these are noise cancelling and great for cleaner tones. They have noticeably less power which is a good thing. For good amps that are touch sensitive this can be used as rhythm/lead switch. With less power it will cleanup nicely. Middle position uses only middle pickup. It's not noise cancelling and has the least power. This one I don't use at all.
It has pretty thick sound. Both bridge and neck pickup are fat. Sometimes I with that neck pickup is just a bit brighter, but it's pretty good as it is.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Action was decent from the factory but any guitar needs a setup to make it play as you want it. I have it setup pretty low now.
It didn't have any flaws and everything works after 2 years the same as day one.
I'm not crazy about the color nor the pickguard. I'm thinking about replacing it with mirror pickguard.

Seems solid. I take very good care of my guitars so it doesn't have any scratches or other flaws. Hardware seems well built. The only remark here is that cosmo black plating on the bridge wears out relatively fast. Other parts are still as new.
Basswood is softer than other woods so I'd expect it to dent easier and for the paint to chip off easier if hit really hard. Hopefully I'll never find out.

I've been playing for 6-7 years now. I own two more guitars, both pretty decent. This has became my main instrument.
I love the sound and the tremolo. Finish is so-so, ut that's the tradeoff I made knowingly. This was the cheapest prestige model that had real dimarzio pickups. Models with nicer finish cost $500 more which I don't consider a money well spent. All the other bits are the same.
I compared it with the anniversary rg550. It has thicker neck and I'm still not sure which one I like more. Ultra thin wizard is nice for some stuff, this one is nice for others. They were the same price back in 2007 but this one had a better case, better pickups and modern neck joint. That made me choose it.
All in all it's a great guitar. I'm glad I got it.

This guitar is a really versatile guitar that suits rock, progressive to heavy metal and stuff. I play rock and progressive and this guitar has the nice smooth feel when playing. No worries on the fingerboard because the action from the factory set up is so low without fret buzzings. You can go fast without a lot of effort. The DiMarzio/IBZ pickups deliver somewhat mid/high output and have sweet harmonics in it. I can get from very creamy overdrive to crunchy distortion. Very very good and versatile pickups. The bridge pickups are hot and the neck pickups are warm. The single coil gives you Jimi's tone with the right amp and pedal settings. The Edge Pro locking system is one of the best Ibanez bridges and gives you tuning stability after the use of tremolo arm.

The guitar is made and set up in Japan. No need to do any additional set ups. The action is very low and yet gives no buzzing. Pickup and bridge heights are in perfect spot. Perfect set up and settings and no flaws. Expected from a Japan Ibanez!

This guitar will definitely give excellent performance for live and recording. Very versatile I would say. The hardwares are fitted in tight and there are no loose spots. Very good workmanship. I've used this guitar for about 5 months and the finish was still in perfect condition except some dings made my me. =(
The strap buttons are big so that your strap won't fall out and they are very tight fitted. Very good! It is a very reliable and versatile guitar and it is a performance/live level guitar. Quality guaranteed.
I only have one guitar but if I have the $$$ I would buy another fixed bridge Ibanez (most prob SZ) for back up during live just in case the strings in this guitar breaks cos this is a floating trem guitar. Any break of strings will cause a mess to the tunings!

I've been playing for 8 years and this is the first proper gear I have. No regrets at all. If it was stolen I would die of heart brokenness and then buy another one. =P
I compared to Schecter before buying this and this guitar gives a feel far more sweeter than Schecter. I just love every feature of this guitar. I just wish Ibanez provide more colour options in this model but the Galaxy Black gives slick and classy look. I love it!
No regrets and worries getting this guitar. If you are considering about this guitar, stop thinking and get one now or you will regret!!
