i've been playing for a couple of years, and when i picked up this guitar i fell in love almost instantly. i think that the only flaw would have to be..... when you play it the sound is kind of drowned out a little bit when you plug it into an amp.
i use a metal zone peddle that revives it though. beautiful guitar and very durable

very solid and distinctive. very melodical as well.
i put a set of DR Tite fits and it screams very will, sweeps are easy to do as well as pinch harmonics

i would say my fav feature would be the floyd rose built in. i've been playing two years. if this guitar got stolen i would hunt the person down and continue using it. i would buy a new one if the guitar couldn't be found.
it sounds good with metal zone peddles of any kind. much treble and thats what i look for when playing metallica cover albums.

I got the 270 Leftie edition with - you guessed it - H/S/H pickups, licensed F-rose and yadda yadda. solid awesome guitar which was ??300 in store [bargain if you take into account lefties are normally ??50 - ??100 more than normal models). Really good hardware for the price.

The noise from the next to worthless pickups was almost unbearable. I promptly chucked them and got EMG's put in [had to disable the middle pick up but not really a problem for me] As I play a lot of hard rock / metal.
With the EMG's this guitar is awesome -- the pickups are the only thing about this guitar that is poor. Sustain is amazing, solos are class with the fast neck and easy upper fret access.
5/10 only because of the pickups- my advice buy this guitar and put good pick ups in [dimarzios, dimebuckers, EMGs whatever] and you're guaranteed and awesomely fun guitar with a 10/10.

I've been playing 9 years now and i've got a strat and a jackson RR flying V - this guitar is my fav.
If this was stolen I would weep, then buy another Ibanez that is as close to this guitar in spec as possible [chances of finding another 270 Leftie for sale are as low as me winning the lottery]
Just a great guitar for the price - as i said buy some pick-ups and you're there. I got my EMGs for about ??80 so all in all i paid ??380 for a guitar with a sound and feel you'd expect in the ??500 - ??1000 range.
Brilliant

1990 RG270 Made in Korea. 24 frets, Gloss black finish, 5-way switch, tone and volume controls, passive H/S/H pickups & tremolo. Pretty nice features. Gonna upgrade pickups and tremolo at some point.

Great metal guitar! I use this with a Digitech RP-1 pedal - sounds awesome. The single coil pup seems to be making some noise, but this this really hase a nice tone to it!

I bought it used, so I had to remove the 4 strings that were on it, dress the frets, oil the fingerboard and begin a setup. I put on new strings, set-up the tremolo, adjust springs, tune it and buy a new tremolo arm. The stock tremolo does not have height adjustment for the strings, So the action is a little higher than I like - but I can live with it.

From the serial number it is 19 years old. Everything looks completely stock on this thing and in very good condition. the gloss black paint it showing a few surface scratches, but this is in great condition for being 19 years old. Yeah I do think it is extremely durable. I would certainly have a back-up handy if I did gig with it - just because of the floating bridge may snap a string. Strap buttons are rock solid.

I have no idea when mine was made just that it was after ibanez started using aanj and befor they stopped using licensed floyds. It features 24 jumbo frets with dot inlays (which i personaly like more that the saw tooth inlay Ibanez uses now). Neck wizard II, like most necks it the wizard series it seems alittle flat and is incredible thin, not as thin as an original wizard but still thinner than most necks. I love the feel of the wizard series necks but they do play weird and some people do like them at all. It features a single locking flocking floyd which can't really flutter, but for a single locking bridge it has pretty good tuning stablity which isn't saying much but all and all you get what you paid for. I prefer the bridge on the 270 to the edge III ibanez buts on their new rg's. The guitar features a setup common for an rg H/S/H with 5 way selector, and both tone and volume knobs. This guitar has all the features you would want just maybe not the quality you want.

Well the sound on this guitar really sucks the pickups well I suggest throwing them out (once you have boughten replacements of coarse). I tried it one my frieds spider II and the only setting it sounded good in was the insane setting which has enough distortion to make anything sound decent. I replaced the pickups with dimarzio evos the pickup alot of buzz so I got a noise gate and now it just screams even on crappy amps (like my behringer). The stock pickups may have been bad on this guitar guitar but I only payed 150$ for it aand another 200$ for evo, which isn't bad considering the cheapest guitar to comse tock with evos is the Sam Totman iceman and that is over 600$ and has a crappy edge III bridge. My final verdict don't bother with the pickups upgrade them.

The guitar I bought was used and it did have chips in the paint and rust on the brodge and pickup selector, but I'll let that slid seeing as how I bought it used. One thing I will say about the guitar is it cause buzz even in the middle slot and I currently have not pickup hooked up to that one (wire came loose and I haven't bothered fixing because I like the effect it makes when I quickly go from bridge to neck pickup when the their is no pickup it the middle section weird I now but I like it) and i don't know if that is do to the guitar quality from when I purchased it or it came stock like that. I will judge the guitar in this section based on the only things I know the factory did which is properly route the tremolo cavity, wire every thing properly. They did both of those well so I have no complaints.

This guitar is good enough to withstand gigging however I do suggest replacing the pickups first. The trem had seen little use when I got it I could tell because after removing it, it had no signs of where and tear. After only about a month of playing though the knife edges started to dull very quickly I suggest replacing with an OFR it easy and requires no routing, however if you prefer the feel of an edge you can adjust the cavity to fit the bridge with very little routing me and my friend did it without a router in only a few hours (incase your wondering we used a sander to round the corners, a file to help increase cavity size, a razorblade to increase cavity size and a paint pen to make to match the paint of the guitar). The strap buttons come loose but that maybe due to wear and tear I am going to replace them with a Dimarzio cliplock soon. this guitar is dependably however I due suggest upgrading the parts before gigging.

I've been playing for about 2 years know the only other guitar I owned was a crappy first act start replica. If this guitar were stolen I would probably buy a new one if but thats only because the parts were easy to upgrade I have spent about siz hundred on it and now I have a 24 fret rg with a H/S/H setup with evos pickups, and an Ibanez Edge bridge, with basswood body I mean the your not going to find anything like that for six hundred. When I got it there was nothing I hated about the guitar I mean I have always loved the way the rg's look and seeing the name Ibanez flashed acrossed the headstock there was no way I could hate this thing especialy for the price I mean all my favorite players (Yngwie exclude) use ibanez. Will the guitar had nothing I hate it did have things I dislicked like the pickups, I liked the bridge up until the point when I installed and Edge on this guitar. I compared the bridge to an OFR (my friends Jackson dinky), a edge III (my other friends rg350), a jackson floyd (DKMG at the music store near my house), and a original edge (replacement for the stock trs 505 on this guitar). As for the feel of the bridge it didn't feel bad next to any of the bridges save for the edge, tuning stabilty all bridge beat (it but to be far I have only played the jackson licensed floyd for about a half hour at a time which the isn't enough time to really test the tuning stablity), Flutter OFR and edge beat it ( I would like to mention though the edge is setup with straight spring which allow better fluttering so will I am 99% the edge would still flutter better seeing as how the trs 505 couldn't at all I still have to mention it so this is not a byass review), and they all felt slittly differnt the only ones that i felt that much of a change when using where the edge III which sucked and the edge which felt like a knife through butter. All and all great for the price but some upgrading at least in the pickup department is suggested. Also if you think my review was a little weird note the I am a weird person

I believe mine is from the early to mid 90's, but I got it used so I am not sure. The original pickups were ok for cheap factory, but upgrading is a good idea. I use a Korg A5 and it just screams like a top of the line RG. My Dinky can't even touch the sound of this guitar.. more than great for the cost.

I have been playing about 22 years now. I bought this guitar as a form of nostalgia and was going to make it into a complete 80's guitar. It ended up sounding better than my '52 tele, so I play it all the time now. I am pretty happy with it overall, especially the thin neck and finish. I wish it came with better pickups and anything other than the stupid dot inlays, but it's a great guitar.

2002, I have to guess. Korean made. Basswood stratocastoid-shaped body, maple 24-fret fingerboard, HSH, Rose *LICENSED* Ibanez-branded trem. Nice metallic teal-green finish. Got it at the flea market with the OHSC and a cheezy strap. Used, but in time-capsule condition.

I play mostly classic rock, hard rock and 80s heavy metal. It suits it pretty well. I use it through a 15 watt Fender Frontman 25r and Marshall MG10CD, but have also played it through a Line 6 AxSys 212 where it sounds best. It has a pretty good variety of sounds. My only big dislikes are the pickups here, they are noisy and the sound quality is a little poor

I think this would hold up pretty good live though i havent tried yet. The hardware looks like it will last pretty long but I would replace the strap buttons with Strap locks as they will make it a little more dependable. I would bring a backup to a gig because it has a tremolo which brings it out of tune pretty quickly though the locking nut still helps alot.

Ive been playing about 2 years and used a cheap Switch Wild 1 before this. this was definately an upgrade. If it were stolen or lost id almost definately get another ibanez but probably not the same because Id rather have a new one as it would probably last longer. My favoritre thing about it would be the maple fretboard which not many Ibanezes have. I wish it had a double locking trem and a better quality one at that and bettew pickups.

I play a wide range of mainly covers - Santana, Gary Moore, Free and bluesy versions of songs. Been using a Peavey Bandit II and just a boost pedal for lead. You can get a wide range of tones - I get rock, blues, warm muted tones, etc. - with the Ibanez pickups and for a bolt on neck the sustain is good. Only problem is the pickup selector, which can be noisy.

Bought the guitar new and the action wasn't well set up. It easy to adjust tho and you can download all the instructions from the internet. Frets are really nice and once set up properly this is a fast, easy guitar to play. Once it gets to room temperature wherever you're playing it stays in tune well - I can usually play a whole 45 minute set before needing to retune.

The guitar seems like it will last for years. I play a lot and there's no noticeable fret wear yet. Finish seems pretty tough too altho it's never been dropped or kicked yet.
Not sure how long the Floyd Rose will last tho - it's showing signs of wear on the blade edges already.
I always take a back up to gigs but haven't had to use it yet. I can depend on this instrument.

I've been playing for about 35 years in various bands and done recording work. I currently have a Strat (Jap 22 fret version with locking nut), Epiphone SG and a Switch Ultima (hmm). I play though my faithful Peavey Bandit and also have a Fender amp and a v old Ymaha amp that refuses to die - ever. I would rate the Ibanez as equal to any of my other guitars for tone except the SG but that doesn;t stay in tune nearly as well.
I played lots in the shop before buying it and still get a buzz whenever I start to play it.

It is a superstrat basswood body with a single locking floyd rose bridge and locking head nut

I have always been a fan of Ibanez necks. the wizard II neck and jumbo frets are great for getting around the neck fast. The tuners arnt that great but with the locking nut it isnt much of a issue.
The single locking floyd rose is nice. This bridge has gotten a bad wrap from some people since it isnt a double locking floyd. But I have no problems with it. my guitar stays in tune. and once i have it tuned the most I have to do is adjust the fine tuners on the bridge but that is rare. Just make sure you have your guitar set up right and you wont have any problems.
The pickups are not the best. When you run to an amp clean they tend to be alittle dull. When it come to distortion and these pickups they are missing the bottom end and are not that bright. The single coil is crap, you get nothing out of it and is very weak. but you could do much worse.
I changed them out with a Bill Lawrence L500XL, JB Jr. SJBJ-1, and a Duncan SH-4 JB. and now the guitar screams.
These guitars are geared toward the metal player. and if you are looking at this guitar for something other than metal or hard-rock. I suggest looking and a diff. guitar.

I have about 6 years of playing the guitar under my elt, But I put it down and went to the bass for about 4 years, And Just recently picked it back up. And the price was right for me, since I always change stuff on me guitars.
There are higher priced RG's out there but I like basswood over most woods, and no RG comes with the pickups i like to use. but I love the bodys and necks, and that is why I buy them.
If this guitar was stolen or lost I would be upset and prob. hurt the person if i knew who it was. this guitar is cheap and easy to find and I would replace it with another one in a heart beat.

This guitar came with in light red metallic, silver floyd-rose patented locking bridge with individual stems to tune strings with locked nut. basswood body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard, H/S/H pickup design, 5 selector switch, chrome machine heads.I have changed the humbuckers since I bought the guitar about a year ago.

This guitar suits my music style pretty well. I mostly just jam at home with old style rock, blues and punk. I am not a shredder though have a lot of respect for those guys. I generally play distorted chords and then break away to blues licks or other string bending methods. I have a 57 classic in the bridge and a Virtual PAF in the neck. And this guitar sounds pretty damn good for my style. These pickups usually go with the warm mahogany style(I have mainly gibsons), but I am surprised at the tone of this guitar. It is brighter than a mahogany style guitar but does not sound like a fender either.
Keeping this thing in tune is a friggin pain. If it's not the machine heads, it's the bridge. But, that's cheapness. This guitar came with power sound pickups that I thought were unworthy of even a cheap guitar They just did not sound good on this guitar. I took a chance buying this, because I have quite a few pickups lying around. I have an open mind with cheap guitars, but I wondered if better pickups would work. I got lucky. The factory sound I give 2. Now:

I bought the guitar used and at the time it was in pretty much factory form. I noticed the machine heads were too loose and the bridge yelled "cheap!" Otherwise it looked pretty good. Other than some rust on the strings. Oh, it had no gig bag. They were nice enough to give me an Epiphone box. No handle on the box.

Quite honestly, the only thing I think that is going to last on this guitar for any great deal of time is the wood, the frets, the replacement pickups and the finish. Would it stand up to gigging? I don't gig but I do play for hours sometimes. I would take a backup.
That is unless I do more work to the guitar. But, this guitar out of the box, I would not gig with it without a backup because of the cheap bridge and some cheap wiring such as at the guitar cord input.

`I have only dealt with Ibanez on information on two other Ibanez guitars, known as "ghostriders". They were very informative and helpful in clearing up some incorrect printings on these guitars
(Tip: If you find a Ghostrider with Humbuckers buy it!). I have not called about this RG because there have been a lot of revues and just working with the guitar, it seems apparent that it is on the lower end of the RG series. So on this guitar I can't say.

I have been a casual player for about thirty years and an on and off player for around 3 years to add. There was nothing I would have asked anyone else before buying this guitar.I knew it was an entry level guitar and that was pretty much it. I asked myself how would vintage sounding pickups sound in a guitar that was made of basswood and had a bolt on neck. The wood seemed well enough.
I didn't worry much, that the pickups stunk because I had my own in stock. It sounds good with the pickups it now carries. What I don't like is the bridge and tuners. These are cheap and give cheap results. I will probably change the machine heads, because I already have some better ones on an old parts guitar. The bridge, I don't know. I won't be buying any extra parts. It's an OK guitar now but not an investment guitar. I bought it cheap and that was the whole idea at the time. Still is.
