I think everyone's covered it by now, V7-S1-V8 pickups, Edge Trem, Locking nut. Basswood. The only thing I would have liked more would be if they had seperate volumes for the humbuckers. I'll give it a 9.
Sound
:9
With this guitar I play mostly Neoclassical, Prog, and just plain Shred. Here's my setup
Guitar > Bad Horsie 1 > Boss TU-2 Tuner > Boss DS-1 Distortion > Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive (on occasion swapped out for a Metal Zone) > Peavey Triumph 120 PAG (great amp, if you ever see an old one pop up on ebay, grab it) <Effects Loop> Through a Boss GT-3 Multi effects (mostly use for EQ and Chorus type stuff) > Line 6 Delay Modeler <End Effects Loop>
I love the sound of the bridge pickup through that mess, with the amp on the "Ultra" channel (with the pre gain dimed, of course). The bridge pickup is a little too dark fortaste, not enough bite, but it does jazz quite well, and can get a very nice bluesy tone, and a decent violin tone for the neolassical stuff. The "in between" positions offer great funky stuff, really spanky. The bridge pickup is the only thing I would fault it for, so I'll give it a 9.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:No Opinion
It was in okay shape when I got it, but then I set it up and lowered the action, plays like a dream with almost no buzz whatsoever, but I'm not qualified to comment, really, I got it used.
Reliability/Durability
:No Opinion
The trem is one of the most stable double lockers I've seen in a while, so no problems there, but one of the strap buttons was loose when I got it, an easy fix. I've only had it for two days though, so I really can't tell yet.

With the price I paid for it, which was a steal, I give it a ten. I had paid closer to a grand, it would still be a ten. This guitar plays and sounds very good, and it stands up to my Parker and my S Custom with extra attitude.

MIJ, I bought this guitar when they were fairly new many years ago. Grey Pewter finish on this one with hardware that has something of a gunmetal finish. Very sleek and sexy guitar that always looks good to me. Exaggerated cutouts allow for full access to the upper neck. This neck is as fast as anything I've ever played, maybe the fastest and most comfortable I've known. I thrive on low action, and this one gets so low it just about plays itself. Buttery fast action, if you can't shred on this, you can't shred on anything. Basswood is always a pleasure to sling up due to the light weight, but it's not the best of tone woods. I'd rather this was a fixed bridge guitar too not that I've had it so long, but sall good. Stays in tune well due to the locking nut. So long as you do the right things when slapping new strings on, you'll have no problems. I credit Ibanez for cramming lots of features into this axe. Taking off a point for the single coil pickup, it's superfluous and crappy...
Sound
:8
The pickups are easily the weakest point, even still, I've heard *much* worse from stock pups. The single coil is terrible, they should have just made this a double hum configuration. There are other guitars out there which excel at the single coil twang, and this guitar finds it's home in hard rock and metal anyway imo. The neck pickup lacks far too much clarity for my tastes, and I never put the single coil in line. I always play this axe with the tone full on and the bridge pickup soloed. With some tasteful EQ and compression, this guitar settles into a thick sustain-laden crunch. This axe gets some ringing overtones at times when a chord is allowed to bloom too, which adds character to one's sound imo. Using my default tone/pickup config and some reasonably fresh strings, chord work will maintain respectable note definition. Decent lead tone, but could cut better imo. I dig sizzling lead tones that make the hair on my neck stand up, so I'd prefer the birdge pup were a tad hotter actually. The clean sound is generic and just ok, but much improved when fresh strings are kept in rotation.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
My favorite thing about this guitar is the action. It gets low and FAST with no buzz, a real pleasure to play. If it were fixed bridge instead of the stock trem, it would be the perfect player. That's easily fixed with a well placed wedge though, so no big deal. The neck is thin though, and once in a while I've bent notes or chords just a hair off pitch by exerting too much force when fretting. Once again, not an issue with the guitar, but rather me needing to be conscious of technique. I play bass a lot too, so I tend to exert more force on a guitar neck than someone who plays only guitar. The finish is easily chipped, so take good care of it. Basswood is notoriously soft too, so it doesn't take much to ding it.
Reliability/Durability
:9
At least 6 years old and still going strong, only a couple small dings or chips to speak of. This guitar can gig night after night, but be sure to bring a backup. Why? Cause if you break a string, you are SOL unless you have another axe at the ready. This is NOT an axe you want to restring on a gig if you kept the stock bridge. The bridge requires a tedious retuning process after you bust one, so be warned. I personally find the bridge overengineered for my tastes, but I can appreciate that Ibanez was trying to offer versatily.

Overall Rating

I'll award a 9 for overall versatility and value within the given price range. Yes there are some superfluous features (sc pickup and overengineered bridge), but Ibanez gives you bang for the buck with this one. I don't know if they still make this guitar or what the model # would be, but I'd say this one's a keeper based on the playability alone. I don't want to feel like I'm fighting the instrument when playing challenging material. This guitar really plays itself, always been a pleasure to pick up this axe.

mine is from 87 made in japan, one of the first of the production line that year.
has (yet) volume and tone, and one 5 way switch (currently under modification)....had orriginal PAF pickups, but is getting better one's, with an seymor duncan hotrail middle pickup...
Edge bridge (original, good quality)..
jumbo frets and sharktooth inlay, for the nice smooth metal look..
I don't know the type of wood for the body, it's quile lite of color I had to sand it smooth, The guy I bought it from told me that it's owner before him nearly wrecked it up...now it looks in much better condition. Still working on a ply-wood pickup, to let the wood color run in one piece, looks awsome. It's a good guitar, because it's not yet finished I can only rate it from it's qualities when I got it.
Sound
:8
has a very sharp sound, so it's more something for solo work then just power cords, clearly it already say's enough when you look at it. not a beginner guitar for shure.
it needs to be tuned properly, for the overall work, since I'm lead/rithm in a blackmetalband, that's why I'm changing the pickups.
overall, it sounds very powerfull, just right for my music styles
Action, Fit, & Finish
:7
even when I got it as a partially wrecked guitar, the action was still perfect, and the copy floydrose, insured that it was still tuned perfectially. Only, the wiring was a bit roughly put together, looked like a mess under the pickguard.

this guitar is well wearth a stage performance, especially when I finished it with new clearfinish, new pickups ect...
It's sturdy and reliable...and will alway's be one of my favorites to play on.

I hope when it's done, it should play better then my modified Yamaha rgx 312, wich I also bought in near death condition...
It soon will ahve evrything I can ask for (ok, I'm modifying it myself...)
a good guitar, like most of Ibanez rg / ex or jem series.....

Think it's been covered; fully locking floyd licensed trem, H-S-H pickup layout, 5 way switch etc etc.
I particularly like the large strap buttons this guitar actually stands a good chance of staying strapped on if you like running around stage.
Sound
:6
I play everything from blues to metal. The pickups sound pretty dead and lifeless when not processed, but that makes them good for plenty of high-gain distortion. In my opinion there are much better sounding guitars that are in the same league.
Action, Fit, & Finish

I can't really comment on the factory setup, but the guitar is well made and the neck plays like greased lightening - it's a real shredders guitars (unsurprisingly). I really really love the neck on this guitar.
Reliability/Durability

The guitar is old - not sure how old but over 10 years I reckon. Considering it's held up well - the pickups are loose, (i think the screws may be cross-threaded), but aside from that - pretty good nick considering

It's a good guitar, great for heavey metal shredding, but I wouldn't use it for much else. The tone leaves much to be desired, but overall it's a decent instrument and well worth considering if you can pick one up cheap.

I speak Spanish so high chances of bad spelling here.
RG570 1999 Japan made model. Rosewood fingerboard (24 frets), basswood body, H-S-H pickups (V7-S1-V8), Edge tremolo. I will give it a 10 because it has all the features I was looking for.
Sound
:8
It is very versatile.
As with any guitar, you have to make serious tweaking to your amp and effects until you really nail the sound you want. Clean sound was easier for me to get, but the gain/distorted sound was a hard search.
I will not describe you how it sounds TO ME because I think it has no point. Your playing technique is for sure different from mine, your equipment probably is radically different and so your musical tastes and experience.
For those of you who complaint repeatedly about the sound and start to change pickups seeking for the ?Holy Grail?:
DON?T lose perspective. If you are into Vai or Satriani styles, go to a Blockbuster store and rent some Live DVD?s of them. Yeah, they are great and sound great but stop looking at them a little and focus behind them...can you see it? The tiny lights going on and off in those racks...?
1) Those racks value is half your house value!
2) Guitar woods and electronic isn?t the same quality (don?t believe me? Do some research about it?)
3) Those guys have a 24/7 luthier at their disposal
4) Ibanez, Marshall, Peavey, Dimarzio, Duncan, etc. make customs, unique parts for them
Now, do you really THINK that you are going to be able to sound like them with just a Marshall or a MESA, throwing an Evolution to the RG and a couple of effects? Think again...
There are people happy with their guitars just factory stock and most who don?t. Always have in mind that it has to do with what sound you?re looking for. NEW pickups or EXPENSIVE gear won?t make you play better. It COULD improve your sound, that will make you happier and maybe you get motivated to play more, learn more music, etc. But that?s it.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:No Opinion
I bought it used. No rate here.
I had to set it from zero. The previous owner left it in the closet for years (without the case!...damn kid!), the action was too high, the neck was a little bend and the strings were almost black from oxidation. It has some dings...you get the idea... After completely setup and an intensive cleaning job, the guitar was ?as new?. Really low action, a dream for speedy runs freaks like me. No noise from the picks (only a little hum from the middle pick, which is normal). The tremolo was aligned as Ibanez specifications, tremolo springs were pretty solid and the arm was adjusted to stay in position as in Satch guitars. Just my taste...
As with every guitar, (the weather changes are drastic in my country), I have to do some minor setup adjustments once a year. That?s it. Treat it well and the guitar will last.
Just a comment about the tremolo, I read other people reviews bitching at the tremolo like this:
1) ?It won?t stay in tune?. Solution: probably need a springs change. If springs are ok, probably the guitar isn?t correctly calibrated for the strings tension. If that doesn?t work, you should know that this kind of tremolo isn?t the ideal for changing keys (drop C, C#, etc.) or string gauges heavier than 0.10. If that?s your case, calibrate the guitar to that particular key and strings gauge but you?ll have to stick to that. It?s a floating tremolo, you know? FLOATING. Got it?
2) ?When I play palm mute with my hand resting over the tremolo it moves and change slightly the pitch?. Solution: if the tremolo is correctly set (read above) then, my friend, your palm mute technique is incorrect. You don?t need to apply pressure over the bridge; you just need to mute the strings with your palm. That?s why ingenious people called ?palm mute?.
Please don?t blame the tremolo, sorry but it?s your technique. I do palm mute a lot, from soft to aggressive power chords, arpeggios, scales, etc. and the guitar stays in tune with no problem.
At first, to change strings could be a little frustrating if you have no experience with Floyd Roses but after a while you will get used to it and it?s not big deal as many people here likes to cry about.
Reliability/Durability
:9
Be gentile and it will last. If you play several hours a day, eventually you?ll have to take it to your luthier to do some fretwork. If you use the tremolo a lot ala Vai style but normally (I mean to get some of his sounds, not to grab it over your head from the tremolo arm) eventually you will have to change the tremolo springs and the arm bushes (those white plastics in the arm).
Other than that, this guitar is 5 years old and all I did was a minor fret work (I play a lot every day) and about the tremolo, as I wrote before I like Satriani and I use the tremolo in that way and so far I only had to replace the arm bushes.

HAHAHAHA?That?s a good one...Yeah! Right! Here in Argentina the Ibanez official distributor is Manny?s. I tried to order some parts from them and they just say ?NO, sorry but we only take guitar orders since to import single parts it?s expensive to us?. THAT?S high quality-human support don?t you think? Ibanez should be serious about who they choose to represent them. However, I saw in numerous reviews that they have a shit** support in USA also.

IF stolen, I will probably try an S series with H-S-S configuration (the S540 is still available here and I always wanted to have one of those).
HOWEVER, if I couldn?t find a S540 I?ll buy it again. For the price-features, this guitar has no competition. With more money you can go for a JEM but there is no point in expend more than US$1000 in a JEM when to be REAL close to that you can put the same picks on your guitar (I know, I know, except the middle one you freak). YES, I played a JEM a lot and I know what I?m talking about. The neck has a different feeling, yes, but that doesn?t mean is better, that?s up to your playing taste.
This guitar has a very fast neck, a decent sound, is pretty reliable and can handle many styles of music (unless you?re an anal, purist musician who by the way will never found the right guitar no matter how much will cost you).
I?ve been playing for 10 years now (I?m 34 years old)
I had (and have) many equipment:
Washburn N4 (excellent, incredible guitar), Ibanez Roadstar series (early Vinnie More guitar with DiMarzio?s Evolution and HS-2), Washburn CS780 (it surprises me, great guitar for the price),
Ibanez RG350 (crappy, horrible guitar), Marshall amps (when young and just want THAT crunch),
Fender Amps (I highly recommend you the Super 60 model), Crate and Peavey amps (sounded dull to me), etc.
Many guitars from my friends: Fender American Strat Plus, Fender Stratocaster Anniversary, early 90?s JEM DY777, RG550, Schecter (can?t remember the model, a high end one), Kramer Focus 3000, Charvel/Jackson and some more. I use mainly Boss effects (DD3, CH1, DS1), Marshall JCM900 amp, a Dunlop Crybaby and a Zoom 505II for home recording.
Sorry I extended too much but I tried to write a realistic review for the guitar player who is interested in buy this guitar. And some parts of this review are for those who have been playing for 10 or more years but wrote reviews like they had 3 months of experience and blame their gear (guitar, pickups, you name it) and not himself for been a crappy guitar player.

Japanese made, amazing amazing guitar. I got mine in Sparkle Apple Green, and I'm absolutely in love with the color. Ibanez has never used this color on another guitar, which is disappointing. I love it. The pickups it came with... Eh. I don't know, this was my first guitar, and even I was feeling dissatisfied with the stock pickups. They made the guitar almost sound like a toy, crunchy but compressed distortion when played on my amp. I eventually gave in, pulled out the stock pickups, and installed active EMG's. 85neck/SA/81bridge. This guitar is now my baby. <3
Basswood body. Should I pull off points for that? Honestly, I don't know. I really like how it sounds... I won't mark it down on that. The stock pickups are the real problem, but it's to be expected with an Ibanez. So let's just give it a 10, okay?
Sound
:9
It fits my musical style fine. I play, uhm, well everything. I'm a self-taught guitarist (I know, I know -- You can cringe. I don't even know what notes I'm playing.) I'm using it on a Crate MX120R combo, and it's not noisy at all, but that's mostly due to the active pickups. Basswood gives you a muddy sound, even when I'm using my 81 and treble boost. It IS nice for playing clean music, though, which is strange but I guess it depends on your tastes.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:8
Guitar had no real flaws, and everything was perfect.
It came with buzzing frets, though. I changed strings and I ruined that. Then I couldn't even play. The floyd rose system is just... Ugh. I really can't get the hang of it, unfortunately. Then again, I'm normally a bassist and not a guitarist. This is my only instrument I have to bring in to get tuned up professionally.
Reliability/Durability
:9
It's durable. It's also Ibanez. The hardware on this guitar is a lot more solid than my 1300$ bass, and this guitar only cost me like 300. I'd depend on it, unfortunately, I don't depend on the floyd rose system. Nothing wrong here, just have a backup. I dropped her and made a little dent but it didn't ruin the finish. I love that.

Well it`s a RG 570.
As far as i know all RG570 should be:
Made in Japan
Equiped with the ultimately thinest Super Wizard neck (not wizard or wizard II) really, really thin neck it is :) 24 frets there.
Neck MUST have bubinga strip on the back.
It should have an Edge Trem.
Mine is Black finished, but beware if anyone wants to buy a black one. It is black, but sparkly black. It`s not too much really, not a disco guitar, but not matte. Pictures I saw before buying couldn`t show that detail.
Sound
:10
All right...sound is not the issue here for me. I tend to change pickups and worrie abaut the amps an effects more when it comes to sound. Wood is basswood, so check google to find more about tonal characteristics of that wood.
This guitar offers me complete freedom to experiment without negatives to be involved.
First thing, when it arrived, I ran to my amp and pluged it in and frowned. I was convinced that the electronics is dead. Really. Here`s how silent it is. I`m not joking, It is really really well made, there`s no mechanical or electrical problem affecting sound at all. Intonation, tuning, everything is perfect, just you have to be a bit patient and let Edge trem show you how you should set it. Probably you will spend few days searching that perfect tune after changing string gauge or such, but after that - rocksteady. Everybody say how guitars with floyd rose trem have weak sustain...well not this one. Really, it`s fairly good, I won`t say it`s a champion of sustain or such (if you want endless sustain go get a walnut or mahogany guitar with EMG pickups and you will get the max) So it`s not a champ, but I can`t say this guitar sustains weak, it`s just not the truth.
Only thing that can get in your way regarding sound is tone of basswood, if you don`t like it. But hey, then don`t buy a basswood guitar.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
I bought it used 3 years ago or something like that, and I was stunned when I saw hoe it looked like. Beside from 3or 4 dotlike paint chips on edges, it really looked like new guitar. It had nylon covers on back side plastic covers and truss rod cover on head stock. Neck - perfect, arrowstraight. Gunmetal pickup covers and controls feel and look desirable and leave a very, let me say $$$$ impression. Frets, everything made me think how this guitar looks when it`s new? I claim that this guitar is unbeliveable hit for that price. Action is very low now, and anyone said buzz? What is that? I really dont know :)
Reliability/Durability
:9
There is some kind of paranoia about floyd rose here, everybody scares each other with "must have a backup stories. Well, I play a lot and this guitar never snaped a string on me. Even when I was playing thin 9 gauge. Maybe it`s my style of playing but surely guitar is getting loose
of pressure in the right way. This is the only guitar that never snaped a string on me. I change them when they get old. And lately (always) I play a lot of Dimebag`s (R.I.P. my brother) shit in spare time and when I do I go really wild on my right hand, that should break string on cheap guitar, but here no. I understand the fact of torment which you can go through if the string breake on stage with edge trem, it is a suck ass situation, I`m just stating out that it`s NOT happening with this guitar. I abuse this guitar pretty much and now and then i knock it on this or that and it`s ok. Paint chips much more easily then on my Fender strat, but it`s not that it falls of in pieces, i made maybe 2 ultra small (2mm) dots (you can see the wood through) thats it. Some guy said how he DROPED it down and now it has a crack on neck? No comment on that...

I`m playing 12 years and own a strat beside this one. I like playing this one more, cause I like this neck, wide and thick necks just suits me, That is horror for classic vintage players, my best friend who owns an antique fender mustang and LP custom is horrified with it, he wants his hand filled withwood to grip on. I just want to concentrate on frets and strings, on that what I am playing and I want to be able to reach everything without a fight with instrument.
Find Yourself. This guitar is so easy to play You wouldn`t believe it. Every aspect is great, body is very light, it won`t drag you down and
it won`t try to set you in a "stand", you can play it whatever you want. Higher frets are very easy to reach.
If you belong to my kind of people, go for it.
But if you don`t like guitars which are too easy to play or you look for a heavy thick body and max avaliable sustain on the market, don`t buy it.
I think I`ll take it to my luthier and try to maple top it somehow. I` ve heard only praises on that wood combo :)
Have fun !

This is an update on my review I did before. A 2002 lefty model with black finish. The specs Remain the same. I'd still like a non-whammy version of this fine instrument in left-hand..
Sound
:9
The guitar is made for metal and hard rock.
With gain on Full Metal Throttle, the bridge pickup (V8) has a really strong and punchy tone. I love it for down-tuned stuff in the vein of Sepultura, KoRn and maybe Killswitch Engage. Clean sounds pretty much suck ass on this pickup (like on almost any bridge PU in my opinion). Too powerful and trebly for that stuff maybe.
The in-between settings give some cool "twangy" sounds, but nothing spectacular. They are not completely useless. Although, they are truly awful with large amounts of distortion.
The Single-coil PU (V1) just plain licks balls (it sucks). I have yet to find one good sound from this piece of doo. It just hums alot and lacks personality even more. Totally useless by itself.
The neck PU has some decent distorted lead sounds and a lot of volume (for a neck PU atleast). This is the one I use for nice and round clean tones, it does it's job really well. The tone is not quite as singing as it is on my SG though.. Can't have all I guess.

It suits many music styles and sounds great , i play it through a mesa dual rectifier and a mesa 50 cal. plus , so pretty much everything sounds good . it really shines with effects , go T C electronics . Very good sound from stock pickups , but i changed them to a seymour duncan JB and JAZZ , now iy sounds incredable . Seymour duncans rule , you can put a jb junior in a mexican strat and it will probably be your best sounding guitar you own . Midnight blue color, Floyd rose locking system, 24 frets etc.. you all know the rest
Sound

This guitar won't lie to you about the notes you play. Every note is heard and will not get faded.
the V8 bridge pickup has a very aggressive crunchy sound which is loud and in your face however, the sound is flat & Harsh and lacks the musical coloring that Gibson's and high end Fenders possess. Nevertheless, it still provides very precise playing which I find wierd but, rewarding. I tried playing some metal songs such as metallica, slayer, and sabbath stuff and it did sound fairly good but, I had to tweak some of the amps EQ settings and lower the volume slightly in order to get a more accurate representation.
When switching between the single and bridge humbucker, the guitar provides a more trebly tone which makes it less flat sounding but, the sound still lacks good coloring.
The Middle single coil sounds very good as it provides good bite yet maintains a little thickness to make it sound warmer then an ordinary strat.
The remaining two neck switches consist of warmth and reasonable thickness to make it suitable for Jazz and blues.
The Floyd Rose Tremolo is such a huge asset to this guitar. It seems like it was built for this body and is easily accessable when playing songs. It offers some great sounds, the best i've heard from any others I used.
This is definantly a stage guitar judging by the high frequency sound and precision it provides however, as I mentioned the lack of flavor to its sound will require some EQ tweaking.
