Basswood body RG w/black poly finish. Maple neck with skunk stripe. Fixed bridge w/strings through body. V7 & V8 ceramic mag pickups. 7 strings. Bone stock

Sound : 10
I play fingerstyle jazz, small combo jazz, fusion, & indie rock. (Surprise: a non-metal use!) Used with a Fender Jazz King w/15" Eminence, Victoria 20112 w/12" Jenson, Tech 21 Trademark 30 w/Weber 10", & THD Univalve through Longhorn 2x12 cab. Strung with a lighter gauge stainless steel flatwound set, this is one versatile guitar. It does smokey jazz single lines (5-way switch position 5 with treble roll off), 7-string fingerstyle (5-way switch positions 5 & 3), several quacky strats (5-way switch positions 4 & 2), and solid distorted lead tone (5-way switch position 1). I use Van Eps (low A + standard) tuning, as well as low B + standard.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Made in Japan. Sweet action, fit, and finish. News flash: this 1999 model has no finish chips on body or headstock.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It's a solid guitar, used live and in studio. Secret to preserving chip-free finish is keeping it in a hardshell case when not in use, or on a stand away from traffic areas. I gig without backup all the time.

Customer Support : 9
Here is how modern customer service works. Find an authorized dealer that gives good sales and customer service. Buy through them, supporting their business. Ibanez, like Gibson and Fender, provides support through the dealer. Find a good dealer, receive good service.

Have played and used several 7 strings in my application, including archtops and handbuilt customs. They have come and gone. The 7421 is my keeper. It is light, well balanced, ergonomic, reliable, and toneful. Most importantly, it intonates properly. Not all 7-string guitars have this ability. I purchased this guitar for $495, used, with Ibanez logo hardshell case containing all the original candy.

I purchased this guitar about 5-6 years ago. Black, 24 frets, 5 way selector, came with stock pickups, passive electronics, Floyd licensed tremelo, stock has a THIN neck. I changed out the stock pickups and put a Seymour Duncan Invader in the bridge and Dimarzio (Evo I think) in the front. Naturally, this improved the sound significantly. I also changed out the stock Floyd tremelo and put in a Carvin licensed Floyd trem because I was having problems with the saddles breaking. This Carvin trem fit PERFECTLY and has proved MUCH, MUCH more reliable. Moreover, I use 4 springs in the back.

Sound : 10
I play through a Boogie Triple Rec and the sound is unbelievable. It's thick and smooth without being mushy. All the notes in 4/5 note power chords using heavy distortion ring through. It is slighly noisy in certain pickup positions (not the bridge, fortunately), but this is normal. I spent many years and lots of $$ on equipment to get a great, unique sound that I'm happy with. My biggest complaint is that the guitar does not play pinch harmonics (at all), regardless of the amp. I considered getting an EMG active pickup to rectify this problem, but the user reviews on this pickup are not very good. Oh well.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I played standard tuning 1-6. I tune the seventh string to A and use a bass string (60-65 gauge). I had to route out the bridge saddle to accomodate this gauge string, but it was well worth it. Forget factory set-ups--they are worthless. Learn to set-up your own guitar. Anyhow, the action is great. Fret action is fast. The best part is the thin neck. This enables relatively easy access to all strings and frets. I've checked out Carvin 7 strings at stores and the fat neck is uncomfortable and awkward. Finish is okay. If you play live and practice a lot, the finish will eventually get destroyed anyhow.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've beat the crap out of this guitar live and it's never let me down. Like I mentioned, I had to replace the stock tremelo and since then I have had minimumal string breakage. It goes out of tune if you really kick the crap out of it, but what do you expect? I took the strap button off and use clips (highly recommended). Lastly, I've had challenges getting the pickups rewired properly. But this isn't a problem with the guitar; just a problem with echs trying to figure out polarity and where all those little wires in the back go.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Yeah right. Who calls customer support on a guitar? Best bet is to figure out how to troubleshoot and fix problems on your own.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 20 years. I own a Jackson 7 string and 6 string Ibanez. These don't come close to this guitar. If it were stolen I'd cry blood.

Late 1999/early 2000, Japan, Black, 24 frets, Stock humbucking pickups x 2 (which are pretty cool), classic RG 5-way pickup selector, Floyd Rose trem, Fat 7 string neck, basically all these features are quite basic RG features, but...Such a 7 string model is NOT the top of the line, but when compared to the TOP of the line models, it does not lack much at all. Please Read on for reasons why.

By the way, i should mention that ive been looking for and wanting one of these since i watched the Ibanez 7th heaven video about 4 years ago, i was roughly sixteen. Just seeing John Petrucci play a 7-string and hearing him on the Dream Theater Awake album inspired me to buy one.

I should also mention that i traded my recently bought B.C rich Warlock which was quite a classic model (the old-school reverse headstock, original floyd rose trem and heavy as F*CK). I had to part with it to buy yet another Awesome Ibanez.

Sound : 8
Music Style: Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Black metal, Progressive, basically i play in the vein of Morbid Angel, (early) Sepultura, Deicide, Atheist (a la 'piece of time'), Death, to name a few.

I run a Behringer V-amp pro through a Marshall 6040 power amp into a Kustom quadie, and a Behringer FCB MIDI foot controller. Awesome affordable sound, the V-amp is awesome!!! Heavy crunching low-mid distortion, basically i currently use a Washburn A-5 http://www.rexc.com/photos/guitars-used/washburnA5V.jpg with a DiMarzio Air Classic in the bridge, a hot Evolution type sound, and an Ibanez RG270DX with a pink DiMarzio Evolution in the bridge, so it is a great 'hot' sound.

The Ibanez RG7421 HAS NOT been played through this particular setup as yet, because i have not picked up the guitar from the music shop as yet, but this setup will be totally awesome and the exact sound i am looking for for my band Abortium, www.abortium666.cjb.net Heavy fast, screaming solos, and sheer brutality. The shitty amp i tried out this axe through still gave it an awesome sound so i cant wait

I really like how this axe compares to the rg7420 and the rg7620. It is basically exactly the same as a rg7621 as it did replace it in 2000, the differences are not noticeable and i would say that it is equal to the 7620 but HEAPS better than the 7420 which is the black sheep of RG 7's, not to say that it is total crap, but not the best.

playing it clean for jazz and soft melodies? SURE, consistecny of quality sound is preserved, of course if you want optimum performance you change the stock pickups to what im going to, whcih is DiMarzio evolution 7's!! but for a factory finish, the sound is one that i am quite content with hence the rating. It would earn a ten with hotter pickups in it, and thats about all it would need in my opinion.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Since i bought it used and traded my okay-ish condition 'warlock-project' i shall call it, cos i didnt have enough time to bring it back to glory in terms of new humbuckers and the chips fixed up, the guitar set-up is very good, the Ibanez necks, well, this, my RG270DX and my mate's Fender Showmaster and three of the best necks ive ever played on.

The guitar although used, has the tiniest chip on the headstock whcih goes unnoticeable, and apart from that its all mint!! it was hard to ditch the warlock which i had waited so long for, one that was produced prior to the death of Bernie Rico Senior, before the widow headstock came and ruined it all along with cheap production, BUT alas i did and i am extremely happy with my decision.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I believe it will be a monster when i take to the stage, cant wait. Especially since my band have finished our first EP, i think the new material will take a slight turn into bigger harmonies and heavier chords to back the solos with.

Finish is as good as most Ibanez finishes, not quite the prestige series, but as good as any other model in the range.

i always need a backup guitar so i feel secure, but this will take over as my priority, and i cant wait to take it on stage with me, like i have said again and again, ITS F*CKING AWESOME!!

BIG FAN OF IBANEZ!

Customer Support : 10
Ibanez - 10 rating, because they will answer any questions and give you prompt feedback.

Melbourne Music Centre - 1 rating, simply because they were a bunch of arseholes about the trade, i got $200 for my warlock and they were very rude about the deal. will not go into detail but will avoid them at all costs, THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUR GUITARS DAMNIT!!!

Overall Rating : 10
10!!! $595 for a guitar that is much better than the RG7420 which retails for $1700 AUS!! a bloody score!

**well, some re-assuring points that tell how good this guitar is, i have been playing for about 6 years and have studied the seven string guitar in all its glory since i started, i have only just bought my first 2 days ago because i have searched long and wide for a good one. I have played LOTS of sevens, from the super rare s-series seven, which i a god, to the cheapie GRX seven, which is still okay but is slightly muddy, also ive played the J&D luthiers sevens, Jackson, Dean and squier. although i have never seen a universe in a melbourne music store, i am still waiting for the day when i get to play one of them or a prestige model.

I have to say that no matter what anybody else says, IBANEZ is and always will be the king of sevens.

for two reasons: Innovation and price range.

If you buy an ernie ball, you have to pay at least 3.5 to 4k, and the others just dont compare. Play an ibanez over any other brand, i recommend it, Praise Ibanez!! \m/ the RG7421 rules! and like steve Vai says, the revolutionary concept of the Ibanez seven string will have any player "wailing into the stratosphere"

Given to me as a gift. Made and purchased in 1999.
Rundown on current setup:
24 frets, black finish (second finish on guitar, if you can call it a finish), one (1) EMG 707 active pickup, EMG "standard" tone and volume knobs, Basswood body, fixed bridge. I'd give it a 10 if the factory pickups didn't suck.

Sound : 8
When I first had it, my amp setup made the guitar sound horrible. God, I dont even remember what the model was, but it was like a 20 year old Washburn. It was like $50 at a pawnshop. That sucked. Then I got an anniversary edition gx-50 crate with shitty dist and clean settings. That didn't make it sound too much better. Then I turned 16. Got a good job. Saved a few paychecks and bought a Marshall Valvestate with a 4x10 cab. The guitar sounded sweet. It was kinda noisy but I lived with that. I played that for about a year. Through that time, I put more expensive guitars through my rig and decided the pickups had to go. I only had the cash for one EMG 707. I decided that since I don't do any blusey sounding or clean leads on my 7 string, I'd just buy one for the bridge position. Great investment!!!!
Yet again, I'd give it a 10 if the factory pickups didn't suck.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
Well, lets just say when I first got it, I didn't know too much about this. I got it when I was 14, only played for like 2 years by then. So over the years there could have been alterations done that I can't remember. I do remember like 2 days after I got it, I was playing and the black piece that goes over the volume knob fell off. I remember I thought it was broken. Stupid child! Like I said, I had been playing for two years by age 14. Thats all I did was play my guitar so you could imagine I exteremely good really fast. I got used to playing a 7 string in days because of this guitar. Really comfortable playing it. Over the years the hardware became rusted but that was because I was careless when it came to taking care of the guitar. I'd play for hours and not wipe the sweat off the hardware. Right now, it's set up pretty nicely. Had the action set to a nice level so it flys like none other.

Reliability/Durability : 9
What has the guitar been through: Getting dropped many times, thrown around (not to damage, just stage shit), headstock beaten against cymbals, and its been run over!!! Yes ladies and gents, this guitar has survived being run over by a car!! I was in a hurry to pack my shit for practice a few years back. I leaned it against the back bumper of my friend's car. Forgot about it. Backed up into the street and saw a black mass sitting in my driveway. I thought it was my dog so I went to look. Nope, it was the guitar. After further inspection, the tone knob got smashed into the guitar bringing a small piece of wood with it. Some bondo fixed that. Too bad I couldnt find the cherry fudge paint anywhere. I liked that color... It's a very dependable guitar. Taken it to many gigs without backups....

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never delt with Ibanez.

Overall Rating : 7
Bad ass guitar. I wish that I would have been a bit knowledgable when I got the guitar. Would have taken better care of it. I would buy this again if stolen, but I'd have to take the time out and re-custom this piece. Great guitar for the price. I will be buying another 7string in the next few weeks. EMG M-207 LTD. Let's see just how they compare :-)

Series 1999, made in Japan-24 frets, Black finish, one volume/one tone, 5-way selector--Pickups: two Ibanez stock humbuckers which are hot enough for me, all I need is sufficient punch when it comes to palm-muting and I'm straight. Uh, maple neck, rosewood fretboard: this is the quintessential feature on this guitar for me-my fingers are really long and on the six string, I tended to overshoot chords because the neck was too small for me. But when I brought that RG7421 home, I had a neck big enough for me. On a related note, the neck seemed to be the heaviest thing on the guitar, kinda weird. I got one of them fixed bridges which is fine because the seven string guitar is not as versatile for soloing and wankin' off. I use this guitar for my straight-ahead assault style metal. I call this guitar "The Axe". She is my mainstay, my main flame, my dream come true. By the way, I don't really care about the paint chipping; I think it gives it a vintage time-worn look.

Sound : 10
I play Industrial-strength grunge/punk/techno/heavy metal. This guitar is perfect for it. I don't have a big amp yet, I play through something relatively small as I am in the process of writing my debut album. Years ago, I discovered a hybrid form of distortion where I would fuse amplifier distortion with the distortion from the effects pedal. What I got was a wild, strong, blatant, and brutal form of distortion. I use a Boss "Metal Zone" (would rather have a DOD "Grunge") and a Boss "Stereo Chorus". The pickups are fine, but not noisy enough for me,I like to manipulate feedback. I don't know about all the special gizmos or heads or effects and all, I am very simple and straight-forward. All I need is a 'clean' that is crisp like a cool Autumn day and a distortion that is so flagrant when I mute the guitar, it feels like you're getting punched in your chest. This apparatus delivers such.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action was set perfectly, I can't stress that enough. As I mentioned before, I've got big hands and long fingers, and there is nothing in the world like a bridge that accommodates my hands. The pickups were adjusted perfectly and the guitar contained no flaws. She is a true workhorse.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This is a professional-grade instrument. It can certainly withstand live laying. No problems with the hardware. I am not the angst-ridden shredder that I used to be (devil without a cause), I am not as abusive to the guitar as I was in the past either. I'm still hard but I play with flair-this will guarantee a lasting finish despite the fact that the finish does chip easily. I have standard, boring strap buttons-they hold up just fine. Can I depend on it? For $500 you bet I can, and will!! Like I said, she'e a dream. I feel so powerful with this thing around my neck with these 24 frets. The 7-string is not for the novice but for the accomplished, skilled musician. This is a man's guitar.

Okay, here goes...I've been playing guitar 10 years, self taught. I had a nice little Fender Stratocaster: there are some really good grunge songs that I have written that are not fit for such a gothic and brutal instrument such as the RG7421. The Strat is light, versatile, and armed with a tremolo, I can abuse this guitar guilt-free. My music consists of different rock genres: in a nutshell, it just doesn't feel right playing grunge on a metal guitar, nor does feel right playing metal on something traditional like a Strat/Jaguar/Mustang. Unfortunately, Fender hasn't really explored the 7-string market when it comes to Jaguars and Mustangs. Maybe one day, some skinny little black boy will come along and shake up things so much that they'll give him some play....So for now, I have to play some of my grunge numbers on this wicked lookin' thang of mine. There is nothing that I really hate about it, it's complete as far as I am concerned. Maybe if it had a pickguard and a Floyd Rose bridge, but not having those features also gives my RG7421 its distinction. It's everything that I thought that it would be, and more. I can't play without it. It is the most prized possession I have. If it were ever stolen, I would replace it in a heartbeat. What I love about the 7-string no longer being the novelty item that it was during the Korn/Deftones nu-metal days is that fewer people use them. So,it makes you stand out and above the six-stringers. I cannot compare the RG7421 to anything else, only I wish that I had a 7-string Fender Jaguar and Mustang to complete my arsenal and compliment my Ibanez. There is a new day ahead. There is a new sound. If time will permit, the 7-string guitar will be the instrument that will usher in a new era in music. Rock 'n' Roll needs an enema...

I assume this guitar was made in '99. serial F99 53440.
Made in Japan 24 frets. Single Volume and Tone controls w/ 5-way switch. Two Humbuckers. I think they are DiMarzios Blaze II pickups? Passive. The neck is Maple w/ Rosewood fingerboard. I think the body is made of Basswood. Finish is Magenta Crush. Nice color, put poor workmanship. The paint chips too easily. This is not good and has tarnished my desire to ever buy another Ibanez. Body style is similar to the Universe. No pickguard and pickups are front loaded. Gootoh tuners, Neck Scale 251/2" scale Frets are Jumbo
My favorite feature is the wiring of the pickup selector. I like the middle positon which activates the lower neck P.U. coil and the upper bridge coil P.U. The guitar plays simliar to my Universe.
NO case with this I had to buy a thick padded gig bag.

Sound : 10
This guitar suits my style fine. I write original heavy rock/metal music. I like the flexability of the Seven string tuning.
I use ADA MP-1(tone generator)line level in a loop of a Boss NS-2. The output of the Boss NS-2 feeds the Tubeworks Realtube II on (clean setting). I have a Rocktron Replifex (primary effects) a Rocktron Intellifex (secondary) and a Boss SE-50(aux. FX)switched on/off by the Replifex. These effects are in a parallel loop of the Tubeworks Realtube II preamp. Then the preamp is amplified by a MOSVALVE MV-962. The RG7421 sounds very articulate through any setting I use on my rig. The pickups are a little ouder than the Universe. I like the cleans sounds of this guitar. No need to upgrade the pickups.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The guitar was setup fine when I got it. The Action is excellent. I had to get my Universe worked on. The both play very well. The RG7421 has a weird flaw in the fingerboard. It is just cosmetic. Finish is a cool color. Chips way too easily. I put the guitar in the extra padded gig bag. Carefully transported it. Discovered a small chip. Later, I bought an Ibanez Seven string case. It has red velvet lining and looks nice. I put the guitar in it's case. Took it to rehearsal and I discovered another chip. I took off the strap at a gig, while putting the guitar away and there was another chip from a soft suede strap? Explain that. The poor finish has made me look for Alternatives to Ibanez. They should cover bad finished in the warranty. I would have made a higher rating if the finish wouldn't have been so flawed.

Reliability/Durability : 7
This guitar is fine except for the shitty quality in the Magenta Crush finish. Hey I like my sticker collection so far. Adds personality to the guitar. Check out www.jointchiefsmi.com to see a photo of this guitar and my other guitars.

Customer Support : 1
Customer support for Ibanez is a joke. Warranty doesn't cover poor workmanship for the finish. No help at all, this company doesn't give a rats ass about you. If you are a signed artists with them they will polish your ass for you with your new custom artist axe.

Overall Rating : 8
I have been playing since 1986. I have four Seven strings now. and five other guitars. I like the Universe and the RG7421. I also love my Artwood Acoustic Seven string. I have a DEAN AVALANCHE 7. It was the cheapest. It stays in tune great. I discovered some different tunings since the AVALANCHE 7 uses a stop tail piece. I use a drop A tuning and a Double D tuning. The pick ups may not be as hot as the Ibanez guitars, but I realized that it has it's own sound.

2000 model i think!, 1 volume 1 tone 5 way-selector, V7 and V8 Ibanez pickups , black, hardtail.

Sound : 6
I play detuned heavy stuff. I got this coz i couldn't afford a RG7620 or the K7, the sound is quite good for the price, not the best but... It's quite full and rich but i'm thinking of changing the bridge pickup.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
I read in a Ibanez advert in a guitar mag that "Ibanez 7 strings don't have string buzz, because we have been making 7 strings the longest" or something to that effect. THIS IS UNTRUE! I get f'ing string buzz!
the thing that i do like the most about this guitar is that it can stay in-tune even when you have re-strung it. once you've worn the strings in you don't have to tune it very oftern!

Reliability/Durability : 6
The main problem with this guitar is that if you knock it in the slightest you will chip/dent it. i was walking out of my bedroom and banged it on the door... chipped the bastard!
The volume/tone knobs are REALLY cheaply made and crackle after a year or so of constant use!

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 8
Its a good beginners 7 string but if i have to be honest, if you are thinking of getting this particular guitar, PLEASE save up abit longer and get a RG7620 or something on the same level. I didn't and i do sometimes regret it!For a few hundred more you can get a guitar so much more!

ON the other hand! if your looking for a reliable mid-price 7 string that you can throw around and will still stay in tune... this is the guitar for you!

2000, I dunno where from, 24 frets, solid body, 1 volume 1 tone 5 way selector, H/H, V7 and V8 Ibanez passive pickups, basswood body and basswood is like fuckin cork because every 7421 Ive seen is chipped, I bought mine chipped goddamnit! black finish, string through body hardtail, gotoh tuners, 27" neck, guitar center didnt give me shit for free but when I buy a strap I get a free amp, dont ask why.

Sound : 8
*Its good for my music style (heavy metal), I use it with a Digitech RP200 through a Marshall 100 watt, its noisy (in a good way), I like the low end but the high end is too trebly.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The guitar was set up great in the sweatshop, the pickups were adjusted fine, when I bought it it had a chip in the corner.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I suppose it would withstand live playing at a blues convention but no guitar could withstand a slipknot concert, so it depends how hard its being played, the hardware is some sort of metal material so until rusting sets in it'll last, finish is good, strap buttons havent fallen off yet so I guess they're solid, I couldnt depend on it to pick me up after school or to remember my birthday but I can depend on it to play when I want to.

Customer Support : 5
Ibanez is super-helpful, they gave me a great little 4 page pamphlet when I bought my 600 dollar guitar and they answer your emails after about a month, under a 30 day warranty.

I own a fender strat, a squier bass and an acoustic, if it was stolen Id buy another 7 string Ibanez.

I think this one was made in 1999 and is probably a Japanese product. Has a black paintjob, two hot ass humbuckers, string-thru bridge, volume and tone knobs, and a grenade launcher mounted on the neck.

Sound : 9
A lot of sounds are possible with this guitar but I don't give a flaming shit about any of them. I only use the bridge pickup along with ridiculous amounts of distortion. My setup is: 7-string, randall rg-150 head, marshall 4x12 cab, sonic maximizer 482, boss eq, fingers. Very forbidding sounds are vomited from my trembling speakers this way. See, I play really deep brutal fucking death metal(Morbid Angel, Cryptopsy, Incantation), none of that weak-ass nu metal Korn feces that that little chode a few reviews down is into. Why waste a 7-string on talentless radio friendly trash like that?

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Yeah yeah yeah, it works great, no problems here. One tiny chip in my paint.

I don't expect any problems with this instrument of bowel destruction. I expect to make people shit their drawers for some time and leave behind a trail of bloody diarrhea.

Ibanez RG7421, hardtail, 7 string guitar. Pretty solid

Sound : 7
Dimarzio Blaze - metal - the way I like it. Pretty hot for a passive.
Stock neck pickup - good for thicker sounds (acoustic)
I don't bother with the others...

It isn't a les paul, but it is mine, and it sounds much better on the B string than my RG470 tuned to B

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
When I did all my work to it (see below) I cleaned the crap out of it with a toothbrush & water, then used a towel to get the water up, then took a cottonball and used baby oil on the neck...
I don't know why, but it plays a HELL of a lot better....
The person I bought it from, (see reason below why he sold it to me so cheap) bought another RG7421 to replace this one becuase it wasn't working right.
There is a night and day difference between the guitars feel. Granted, it might be my tweaking with it, but the neck jsut feels different, not a bad different...
Overall, I think it is a pretyt good guitar, since I tweaked it a lot anyway.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I got it with a huge "dent" under the high E and high B strings on the third fret.
It stays in tune, and it doesn't effect playability.
Also, when i got it, the pickup switch was busted, and the pickups, when the switch was working, were fried. I replaced all the electronics myself, and bought a DiMarzio Blaze humbucker for the bridge pickup (it was fried, would work then not work, and when it did, only one coild worked)
after that, I have not had a problem since. From what my friend told me (who I bought it from) someone screwed with it, and the only reason it worked as much as it did was becuase he messed with it. I knew this when I got it, and planned on doing all the work to it anyway, so I think it is pretty reliable/durable

Playing guitar for 4 years, and drums for 9.
I have played in several bands, and basicly it doesn't mean shit - just pick one up and play it.
These things are all about opinion, never fact. So, just like buying a car, test it out first.
I personally think it is an excellent guitar, especially for what I paid for it :-)
25 for the guitar, $20 for the wiring(approx) and 60 for the pickup. So for $105(approx) I have a nice guitar, granted it isn't a Les Paul Custom, but those cost 10x as much...

Mmm... this is maybe from year 2000 can't say. This one cost 3995FIM (672?)

As many of you have said this has 24 frets and so on.
I have changed the pickups from those crappy stock shits to Seymour Duncan Invader and Seymour Duncan Jazz. Now it sounds much better.

Sound : 9
I play in a progressive rock band wich has some metal influenses so this guitar fits perfectly into it. I play through Korg AX1500G, JCM800 (2204) and 1936 (2x12") cabinet and the sound is almost perfect with these gears and guitar for me.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The finnish isnt the best and the paint is cracking off if you a little knock it. I've been thinking of repainting it and put maybe less varnish. And what comes to the tail bridge this cuts pretty often my A, D or E strings, but now haven't for a week wich is nice.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I trust in this one in everything when I have a brand new strings on it.

Customer Support : 9
I have changed pickups and it required some work (as they said) and changed few tail bridge pieces. I was happy for the service and their fastness.

I love this one and I'm never gonna sell it, if it were stolen maybe I'll buy then RG1077XL or JEM UV777.

I think this is the 99-2000 model. I got it from Musician's Friend brand spankin' new for $250 - they were practically giving it away(I shoulda grabbed two). 24 frets, black finish, v7 pickups, rosewood fingerboard, skunk stripe on back of neck for truss rod etc.... The pickup selector really gives you a wide range of tones from chunky to glassy, to bluesy - very versatile. The second position coil tap gives a nice twangy glassy sound. The only other feature this guitar can really use is a better way to raise the pickup height - since the pickups are mounted straight into the body you cant raise it much.

Sound : 9
I got into seven strings because I had always been down tuning my six strings to get a heavy thrash/nu-metal/death metal sound. The seventh string does the trick and doesn't sacrifice the higher notes. I changed the bridge pickup to a dimarzio blaze bridge because the stock pickup sounded a bit dull(lacked highs). The dimarzio sounds fuckin awesome in it. I play this through a JCM2000 half stack and it sounds BRUTAL. Fear Factory, Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Petrucci - this guitar sounds amazing for every style.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Some problems here at first... When I got this guitar the action was WAY too low. I had to spend 50 bux to get it set up. After that it played BEAUTIFULLY. Also, the pickups fedback a bit at high volumes (very high voulmes when I had tons of distortion. The same thing happened even after I changed the pickup to the blaze bridge. I was able to eliminate it by stuffing foam behind the pickup and screwing it in reak tight - that way i could have the pickup closer to the strings. Also, when I first got the blaze, it did't fit good because the wire came out if the bottom and got in the way. But I sent it to dimarzio and they rerouted it out the side(they had great Customer Support).

Reliability/Durability : 7
The only two things that go wrong w/this guitar are:
1) The finish is SHIT - its flaking off all over the place.
2) The bridge isn't so good - my strings break often when jamming

Customer Support : No Opinion

Iv'e been playing for seven years and I've gone through my fair share of gear before this guitar I had an Ibanez rg550. I could not ask for anything better on this guitar especially for the price I paid - I am completely satisfied. If it was stolen I would buy it again if I could find it for under $350. I would recommend this guitar to anybody looking for a great sounding, quality seven-string.

Year 2000, 24 jumbo frets, black basswood double cutaway body,25 1/2" maple neck(Wizard7), rosewood f.board,2 direct mounted pass.hmbuckers(V8=bridge;V7=neck)5 way pickup selector w/neck in parallel in pos.#2,1 vol.(with treble bleed),1 tone, black hardware, fixed Gotoh string through bridge & Gotoh tuners, instruction booklets, truss rod wrench, hex wrench for bridge saddles. Didn't come with a case.

Sound : 8
I play pop/rock. Marshall amps. THe V8-7 pickup is pretty thick sounding. I like it better than the V8(for 6)because it's ceramic and less prone to RF noise. (The V8 for 6 strings is AlNiCo 5) YOu can get a split "Strat" like sound in pos.#4(uses 1 coil from the neck, 1 from the bridge). I like Ibanez pickups.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I don't know if it was set up at the factory or at Musicians Friend but I was surprised at how well it was! Intonation and action was set. I had to loosen the truss rod as it was really straight, possibly for storage/shipping. Fret work is good, no jagged edges(unlike my Universe). One thing I know was the factory is the neck, it was mis-aligned. The high 'E' string was falling off the edge near the upper frets. I loosened the neck screws and forced the neck over as I retightened the screws and this helped. The high 'E' could still be more inward on the neck. Perhaps I'll fill the neck screw holes and re-drill. Not a big deal. Even the pickups were the right height.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I bought it as a live guitar, no nonsense, no fussing with locking tremolo live guitar. I have an Ibanez Universe but tuning it is a nightmare, time consuming. That's one of the reasonsI bought this. The other is that i don't want to hack on the Universe. I put locking strap buttons on it. It doesn't have the huge strap buttons the Universe or my RG550 has. I wouldn't use it w/o backup because I won't play this the whole time anyway. I still like to play 6 string.

I've been playing 22 years and I'm really good(just kidding). I've got 7 other guitars, 2 of them Ibanez. I really like their guitars. It seems like people either love them or hate them. To me they always play well, feel great. I love the simplicity of it. Maybe I'm getting old but it's getting to be a drag futzing with locking tremolos, the tuning and re-tuning to balance it out. If it vanished I would definitely get another.

A black RG7421, v7 & v8 pickups, wizard 7 neck, black tuners, jumbo frets & a fixed bridge.

I bought this from the states, $350 unused. Its a real deal if your starting 7string or playing for a long time.

Awsome, its amazing how you can hear the low B so powerfully. The switching really give a difference. It sounds rich and chunky. And if you add the DS-7 its real awsome. No need to replace the pickups. Awsome for tapping as well

All was great, no problem at all. it was tuned, the action was just right.

Its fit for life, i wouldnt need a backup at all for this. Even though i own 2 7string. Seems really strong and light. Other then my other 2 guitars.

All of its awsome, except no whammy bar, but then i get to find out the true power of a whammy pedal.
This is way better then my Gibson SG, my Tom anderson. I have a RG2027, and thats awsome in its own class. If you want a real 7string, go for a Ibanez!

I guess this guitar was made in 1999 or 2000 (it's been discontinued since then) in some country OTHER than the USA. It's a solid-body basswood guitar, volume and tone, two great pick-ups (V7 and V8). The neck is maple with a rosewood fretboard and a bubinga reinforced-strip. Passive electronics, five way selection. The finish is BLACK as well as all the hardware, tuners are non-locking but keep a good tune. Brigde is fized, Jumbo frets, 24 frets, normal RG scale, thin, and came with NOTHING.

Sound : 8
I play in an alternative/hard rock band called Malinger, and it really suits my style. We play all original music, and it requires the use of clean sounds jumping quickly to heavy rock distorted sounds. The five way selector helps in this, going from a Fender single-coil twange to a Gibson-esque humbucking sound with the flick of a switch. I use a Line 6 Flextone 2 half-stack (Head and 4-12 cabinet) and this guitar makes it sound awesome! I've never herad a quiter guitar, and it's holding up quite well. This guitar is great, and for a sevenstring to emulate great srat-like sounds, I couldn't ask for more. I already have 2 other Ibanez 7-strings (an AX7521 and an AX7221), and this guitar ranks among the best I've tried out. You can't hold a torch to Ibanez if you're looking for a great 7-String. I love this guitar, i just wish that there were seperate volume and tone controls for EACH pickup, not both of them at once. I sometimes depend on the combination of a neck pick-up really low and a bridge pick-up soaring for a great full sound, and this guitar cannot accomplish that.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action was great, everything was fine. It's a great guitar that needs no modification.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I haven't played with this guitar live yet, but i will soon. It holds up at our practices (which are close to shows), and the hard ware appears to last a while (based on my previous Ibanez guitars). The strap buttons are solid, as far as I can tell, but only time wil prove their dependability. But, overall I can depend on this guitar. I don't think I'd ever gig without a backu-up, but if I had to, yes I would.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with Ibanez. Until I get an endorsement, I won't either.

I've been playing for a good 4 years now. I know, I know, you're all gonna call me a young little kid who doesn't know what ot look for in a guitar. I admit, I am young and I don't klnow everything. No one does. I won 3 7-string guitars, and I woned 3 really messed up cheap guitars in the past, as well as a really screwed up amp set-up and processor. Only as of recently have I pulled my senses to gether and purchased professional quality gear. I had a chat with Dino Cazares from Fear Factory at Sam Ash in April of 2000, and the guy gave me some awesome pointers on amp set-ups, so my sound is great. I wouldn't think twice about buying another Ibanez guitar - this company is THE BEST for modern-rock of all styles. You get what you pay for, and sometimes you get a little more. The only thing that took some getting used too was the body style, I'm used to the AX style whcih feels more at home on my less than perfect body. The Rg just felt a little odd at first. I got used ot it though. I love the pick-up selector. I wish it wasn't black, rather I wish it were woodgrain. I also would've liked it to be mahogany rather than basswood. Mahogany is oooooo much warmer. If you are looking for a great guitar, Ibanez probably made one for you. So, go find it!!!!

You can go from classical>heavy ass metal with this guitar. I dont lke the chip on the edge buy the output jack for the lead when i dropped it on my pedals.

The finish on my Ibanez 7-string is black, and hasnt chipped yet! Its got volume and Tone knobs, and 5 way switching. Its basswood, and is INCREDIBLY lightweight guitar! One feature that it could have used would have been a locking trem, bending notes sometimes takes it out of tune. The Jumbo frets are good if you like heavy music, if ya dont. Dont bother.

Sound : 8
Im into deep heavy music(like Korn, none of that weak ass Death metal) So the added string helps alot. The humbuckers quite frankly, suck. Im getting some DiMarzios but until than i have to live with Ibanez's pickups. The sound is dark and full of bass. Naturally seeing how it has the added B string. I play it though a Line 6 head with a Marshall cab, ok sound, but the pickups definitly need replacement. But overall, The sonic possibilitys with this guitar are endless!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
It looks and was built perfectly. The all black hardware looks really good on stage. The extreme lightweight also helps the onstage apearence. The guitar was put together perfectly, as it should be as i got it for 560 dollars at the local Guitar Center.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar withstands live playing and than some! Its built for heavy music, and with heavy music, preformance of insturments during a gig is 100% essential. And this guitar holds! Hardware has held. The finish seems like it could possibly chip easily, but with care, it wont. This guitar is very dependable and i would use it without a backup at a live gig.

Overall Rating : 10
Ive been playing for 4 years, and this is my best out of the 5 guitars I own. When I end up smashing this guitar on stage, i will most definitly buy another! Its SO much better than Gibson/Fender/EVERYTHING else if you want to get the hard/extreme rock music sound. It needs a durable Floyd Rose and a locking trem, but the lightweight obviously is in part due to the simplicity of the guitar. Even with the bare elements, I would recommend this guitar if you want to play any hard music, or if you want to expand your range of notes.

My 7 stringer was made over seas probably by some ten year old being paid $2.75 a month. I don't really know that but what the heck. Anywa its got the usual pickups(v7 & v8), 24 frets, blck finish, hard tail bridge, and seven fat telephone wires for strings. Nothing special, but just right for anyone looking to go that extra step lower. When I bought it it was used and came wit this wicked case with crushed red velour lining. Tons of stoage to. If you gonna buy one, buck for the case too, you won't be disappointed.

Sound : 9
My style is a combination of death/black meal with a touch of hardcore thrown in for a little spice. This guitar suits my style like a glove. This ain't no blues or country guys cup of tea. They make folk guitars pee there pants. Anyway the sound is great for distortion but when it rolls over to the clean side ittends to have a little to much bass, even with the tone all the way up. Thats the only down fall in my opinion.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I have no idea how it was from the factory considering i bought it used. but I do know that themusic store I bought it from set it up, and man was beautiful to the touch. The did an excellent job.it had a couple of niks bu those were all from the previous owner. I have a Japanese model which is manufactured in 2000. The setup is quite simpel, two DiMarzio PU's (V7 & V8), a fixed bridge (string-through-body) which are switched via a 5-way selector, 24 Jumbo frets, which I like very much, rosewood fretboard, basswood body and Gotoh tuners. It came with a gigbag, because I have a flightcase allready.

Sound : 10
I've been playing guitar for 12 years now and my favorite style is hardrock and progressive metal. Since a few months, I started a new hardrockband which is improving in techniques. Also, I read some tabs which required 7-string guitars so I decided to give it a try. I asked my local dealer whitch choises could be made and regarding my gauge (.011) he recommended the RG7421 with the fixed bridge. Not having a tremolo also means more sustain which I like very much. I run the axe on a MB Dual Rectifier without any effects but a zoom reverb unit (mabye I should have bought the Rect-O-verb). It sounds very good. The volumecontrol is very good, I can go from almost clean to heavy overdrive, just by turning the volumeknob open. The available sounds are splendid, it can go from a jazzy Gibson to a rithmic Fender and a fully blown Jackson in just on move. The neck of the guitar is really thin, everybody should be able to play this guitar. The cutaway is nice and deep so you can reach the highest positions without any problem. The pickups are very noiseless, I couldn't hear any feedback or nasty "oceans" with the volumecontrol full open. For the first time, I didn't experience any detuning (this is the first guitar with a fixed bridge) although my playing is very rough. It was a nice surprise playing it live for the first time :))

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Great setup, I didn't have to ajust anything. I've read some articles of people changing the PU's but according to my opinion, the standard PU's are doing just fine. Mabye the frets need to be checked on more time, but that's the advice of my dealer. I wanna play it first!!

Reliability/Durability : 8
I got the guitar a few day's ago so I can't tell you how the axe will handle after a few gigs but I'm convinced that she will hold up. The guitar feels solid so I don't expect any problems here

I also own a Cort S2550, Fender Stratocaster Plus (USA), Ibanez ST50 and this is the first 7-string guitar. Compared to the other guitars, this is a unique guitar. It can sound like a Fender or whatever but you'll always hear that you're dealing with a Ibanez. I've chosen for a low budget 7-string and I got a very nice guitar. Mabye, if it was stole I'd go for the more expensive version with tremolo but I hope I can keep on playing this one. For anyone out there who wants to try a 7-string and don't want to pay hell of a lot on a Universe or whatever, try the RG7421 (or the newer RG7321), you'll like it!!

24 frets. Solid body...you all know what it looks like, or you wouldnt be here checkin out reviews. This thing is as black as the music it produces....I likes it alot. It comes with two Dimarzio humbuckers...(V7 and V8)

Sound : 10
sounds incredible. no extraneous buzz...I currently play it through a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier with a Marshall half stack. I play a wide variety of music....anything from Phish to Limp Bizkit to Korn....and all with good results from this guitar. The only thing I didnt like about it were the pickups, and I have Dimarzio Blaze's on the way.....but I wont knock it much for that...
The only difference between this one and the 7621 is the pickups(it has 2 Blaze pu's)...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
No flaws at all.....shiny black finish with black hardware....
one thing I noticed is it seems VERY light for a guitar, but it doesn't take any sustain or resonance out of the sound....I was kind of shocked when I picked it up for the first time.
Another thing is the neck is very flat and comfortable so it was easy to move from a 6 string to this. I give it a 9 because not even Ibanez deserves a top rated 10

Reliability/Durability : 7
Its very light, and the finish is like glass, so I would imagine it would be very easy to crack it if you were hard on it, but it seems ok for my style of playing....I dont go off as much as some people so I think shes safe

Customer Support : No Opinion
havent dealt with em yet

Overall Rating : 8
I give its overall rating an 8 out of 10 only because I need to replace the pickups, and because its made of very cheap materials(basswood)....but it seems Ibanez makes quality gear and even their high priced models are made with basswood. It sounds great, and I have almost completely stopped using my 6 string altogether...
A 7 string gives me so much extra room and the 24 frets let me wind my way down the scale with ease....Also as a plug for Ibanez checkout the new Tone-lok pedals...they've got me hooked on them so much I bought em all....they have sample sounds and settings for em all at: http://www.ibanez.com/ibanez2k/tonelok.html

I play various styles of music, most of which this guitar was not designed for - but for heavy music, this guitar with the blaze pickup is a killer... Highly recommended - Turn up the distortion and bash away

* Will this guitar withstand live playing? - Yes, it has so far
* Does the hardware seem like it will last? - So far so good.
* Is the finish good enough to last, or does it seem thin and easy to wear off with lots of playing? - Someone threw a demo CD at me and chipped it, but otherwise it seems fine
* Are the strap buttons solid? Replaced them with locking straps
* Can you depend on it?Would you use it on a gig without a backup? yes, and yes

I'm into heavy music (i'm a kid, and i bought a 7 string. do the math.) This guitar fits into that real well. when i first got it, i was disappointed with the sound. it was just muddy as hell. I was certain it was my amp, so i went shopping for a new one. they all sounded muddy. so i instead replaced the bridge pu with a dimarzio blaze neck pu. UNBELIEVABLE. it's a diffrent guitar. and all for $80 (60 for the pu at musician's friend, 20 to have installed be cause i'm a retard when it comes to electronics.) I would have given this thing a 4 before the mod, but after it goes all the way to a 7.

V7 & V8 humbuckers, fixed bridge, gotoh tuners, jumbo frets, one volume, one tone, 5 way switch. You know what to expect of an Ibanez RG model, don't you?

Sound : 8
I play in a band that plays metal in the style of bands like Slipknot and Glassjaw and the like, and I love practicing Slayer and Pantera riffs. It fits my music style perfectly. I also own a Ibanez Universe 7-string, but the RG is better suited for metal style playing. I run the 421 through a Morley bad horsie wah, Hughes & Kettner Tubeman, Boss flanger and a 30 year old Sound City 100 watt tube head(this is a Hiwatt without the master volume made by Dallas Arbiter in England).

On humbucker settings, this guitar sounds fat with a capital F. If you play metal, you probably don't want to replace pickups because 7string pickups just don't get any hotter than this. In split coil mode, there is a significant drop in volume when playing clean, and the sound becomes more funky or poppy. Still usable for some and not bad at all.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I found that the setup was too light for me, so the strings rattled a bit too much. I have to say that my atack and approach towards a guitar is very aggressive and I tuned it down a whole step. I solved this with a set of flatwounds, .013 to .056 with a .010 for the high E string.

String alignment with the pickups and neck were okay, the nut is just fine, the bridge and controls are real nice and nothing gets in the way. The finish looks good too, and they won't get any blacker than this. There was a scratch on the back, because some customer in the store wasn't careful enough. That saved me NLG 100,- Frets were fitted good either.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar kicks ass live! It feels solid, sound alike and when you play it, you will know that for sure. When played very frequently, it will last for about 8 years I think. A tip for strap buttons in general: take them out, and screw them back in with lots of glue. Saves you a lot of trouble in the future. Take note that the RG is made of basswood, which is very soft. And ALWAYS bring backup!! this guitar is as reliable as a mack truck, but if you don't want to change any strings onstage, do you?

Customer Support : 1
Warranty: one year. Service? uuuuuhhh.......

Overall Rating : 10
If this guitar were stolen, I'd have to buy something else because it is out of production and not available anymore and anywhere in europe. After 8 years of playing, my first guitar ever, an ibanez universe, needed replacement. I'm not used to 6 strings, so I wanted this one.

It has the same neck as it's more expensive brother, the RG7620. As the neck is very important for transmitting tone, I didn't want a strip of wood glued in the back of the neck to make it more solid(this is done to the 7420 with floating bridge). This guitar doesn't need one and thus you won't sacrifice any tone. Compare this puppy with any other 7string of the same or even higher price and find out that this is the winner. I rated this model for what it is, regardless the price. If I'd take the price into account, it would be a rating of 10 all the way.

Dean has a model like this one, but the neck feels like a baseball bat and the pickups sound wimpy. Carvin offers strong competition, but Carvin is very expensive in Europe due to import taxes. Schecter should be pretty good, too, but I would have to borrow a car and go to Germany twice in order to try and order one.

My favorite feature is that it HAS NO SPECIAL FEATURES!! which means hassle free playing. Something else I love is that all my friends want to get one, but they can't. Out of production and import.

And at last I'd like to say: DO NOT BUY CRAPPY STUFF!! IF YOU DO THIS YOU SUPPORT COMPANIES TO PUT OUT MORE GARBAGE!!!

I play brutal death metal, some thrash and black metal no (Korn, Limp, or Deftones nu-metal gayness, if you play or like this music you are a poser faggot). It is perfect for what I do. I am pretty happy with the pickups, although the bridge one is a little too bassy for my liking. Very hot and dense sounding guitar. I can easliy get that brutal Nile distortion.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Not a single problem hear.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I use this guitar on a few songs in my band, Arterial Spray when we play live and it has always been reliable. I don't use it as much as my other guitars because most of our music isn't in B tuning, we usually tune to D or C#. It is very comfortable to play, is very light and i expect many more successful gigs with it.

I have been into seven strings for a while and Ibanez is the best choice if you are wanting the low end but a reasonable price. I would definitely buy this guitar again if it were stolen.

Sweet comfortable neck(doesnt even feel that big for a 7), 24 jumbo frets, 1 volume, 1 tone, 5-way selector switch, fixed bridge, angled head stock, Two ibanez factory humbuckers(sweet sound), Bass wood body, and a nice clean shape with a perfect finish

Sound : 10
I love the sound of my guitar, I've wanted a 7 string for years, and now i finally saved up enough to buy one, and it's every thing i thought it would be and more!!!! Awesome sound from the bridge pickup when your playing with distortion, and a nice crisp clean sound on the neck pick up, and add a little flanger on there for that extra flavor/

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I ordered it right from Ibanez it took two months to get to my house, and when it did i nearly shit my pants, the finish ont he guitar was so perfect i could not believe my eyes. There was no string rattling sounds (the buzz from the fret touching the string). The action was perfect, i didnt have to tamper with it to get it the way i wanted it

Reliability/Durability : 10
I play in band and we go crazy at shows. I havent played with this guitar yet onstage, but i definatly would play without a back up, without a doubt. When i'd play a show with my Epiphone, id be scared half to death to go on stage, cause i knew the thing would go out of tune!!! with the ibanez i wouldnt think twice about playing without a back up.The Ibanez is worry free guitar

Customer Support : 10
Didn't have any problems, when i got the guitar the volume knob wasnt all the way on, so i had to screw it tight. thats the only problem i had.

Overall Rating : 10
ITS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've played different kinds of 7's, Jackson, Bc Rich, ESP, they all blow!!! You can't beat the Ibanez,.

hard tail 24-fret black as black can get
im not gonna boar you with details

Sound : 7
the ibanez made pickups in the 421 are pretty well rounded for heavy stuff.. for some reason they sound better in this basswood guitar then my mahogany Rg 2027x.. (go figure)
for some reason ive owend and played just about any guitar you can think of and this thing just is cofort to a "T"
it feels damn good and there is not damn floating tremlo to slow your hand or your tunings down.. and all the controls are out of the way

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
like i said it feels good to my hands and everything is crisp and tidy.. i even like this beter then the 2027x and the 621 .. which also mean better than the 620 and 420 (incase your lost .. if it ends with 0 that means it has a whammy bar, if it has a 1 at the end then its a hard tail) the finish is as high a gloss as ive seen
i wish ibanez made more colors and options but i cant hold my guitar down for that...

Reliability/Durability : 10
this thing is rock solid and the best part is its cheap enuff to keep lying around in the house and pickup when your ready
use and abuse it.. as much as possible
you wont regret it

Fixed bridge, Ibanez V7 and V8 humbuckers, basswood body, rosewood fretboard.

Sound : 10
I play very heavy music, mostly Korn, Metallica, Limp Bizkit, and that such. This guitar is perfect for it. Real crisp metal sound like all Ibanez guitars. I run it through a Ibanez 50W amp with an Ibanez smashbox which gives it the ultimate in distortion sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Great finish excent for some scratches and a few minor dents.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This plays very well live as long as you don't play extremely heavy. I have a couple of times and because of the fixed bridge it doesn't stay in tune as well as the 7621 (Original Floyd Rose Tremelo) but besides that, great for live playing.

I've been playing 6-string for a while, wanted to move on to 7-string for a more lower sound and I thought to myself about a company. Didn't take long for the name "Ibanez" to pop into my head. They are the top company that makes 7-string and why a lot of guitarists count on them, Head and Munky of Korn, Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit, and others such as Steve Vai, who helped Ibanez design the 7-string.

This is the lower end seven string. The only difference is the pickups. This one was made in Japan, the same place as the rg7621. It has a five way switch with coil tap, volume, tone, and two ibanez brand pickups. It is the same rg basswood body as the other models. The bridge is fixed, no tremolo struggles for me. The best part is the neck. For the flat hand style progressive metal, it is perfect. Not too thin but it kills the strat. The finish is all black, super stealth guitar.

Sound : 10
It sounds great. I think that once i order a seven string model air norton and steve special, the guitar will be perfect. I am in a progressive metal band. This guitar instantly brought me close to the dream theater sound. With new pickups, it will match the dream theater sound, perfectly. There is very little noise through my crate gx120 or gibson falcon. I only use a metal zone and a boss digital delay. Wonderful clean sounds. Try the position between the middle and bridge for the ultimate in clean lead. It can cover pretty much anything. I love the guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The action was a little high, but it was easily adjusted. The only problem was the pickup height. The neck pickup was WAY below the bridge. I know that the bridge should be a little higher due to the vibrations being closer to the neck but this was not good. It was okay at rythem but lead was impossible. That is no good for any dream theater wannabe. I wish that the controls were tighter just so my picking would not decrease the volume. That is my problem though I am sure that I am not the only one. The guitar was used though, so i will not lay the blame on Ibanez. The guitar was, all in all, in pristine order.

Reliability/Durability : 8
This thing looks to be very durable. The strap button was loose though. I am carefull when playing with the band to not mess with it to much. Also the input jack is too loose. The cord comes out with just a slight tug. I usually just wrap it over the back strap button. I would not use a backup though. The problems would only require me to sit down, not change guitars. Again the strap button may just be from a careless owner.

Overall Rating : 10
This guitar is great. It has inspired me to practice. I have put in 22 hours in the past four days!!! It blows away the strat w/Gilmour EMGs and the Les Paul Custom anyday. I would buy it again definatly. The neck is just incredible. I was worried that it would take some getting used to, but it only took 10 minutes. I compared it to every esp and it blew them away. They only offer 3 way switching, fat necks, and muddy sound. They do look cool though. I dont want to copy other people, but Ibanez really does seem to have the seven string down. I would advise anyone that is shopping for a seven to give Ibanez a long hard look. I wish it had the awesome JPM100 finish on it. I was looking for a new amp at first(still searching)but I needed a new guitar more. I wanted to really get into the progressive metal style and the seven string is definately there. I would have to say that John Petrucci made me do it.

normal gotoh tuners, string thru, bla bla bla bla, five way selector, one volume, one tone.....bla bla bla/....flat top, really thin neck basswood body, real light and very good lows......24 frets, too, would like some locking tuners, not a floyd rose or locking nut mind you....

Sound : 10
the five way selector gives you a huge array of sounds, though personally i only use the bridge pickup humbucker setting....but it kicks ass anyway....the neck humbucker sound is a little muddy...but it covers all the sounds really good and it seems the high notes you want to cut through the lows always do and the ones that you dont, dont. but maybe thats just some wierd side affect of the polluted air im breathing. and it doesnt give feed back. i play it through a marshall valvestate head with a jcm 800 cab at full gain and it stars to give me feed back at 9...which is too damn loud for me
plus its not that muddy considering i have .13-.65 strings and i tuned it down a whole step at first.(an accident)when i brought it back up to standard, it was even better

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
its sort of hard to hit the highest notes, but its still okay, the pickups were just fine, the strings were set at a good height. i needed to file at the nut for the low e, but who cares? it was a frikkin bass string! there was a chink next to the jack, but it was okay. with real light strings, it sounds really wierd...you always end up accidentally "bending" the notes to where it sounds out of tune, so thats why i put on such heavy strings, which limits my ability to bend the notes, but whatchagonnado? i have a little problem with the strings staying out of tune, well actually the low e, but its probably because 1)theyre new 2)its a goddamn bass string!!!!! So it does very well under the circumstances.

Reliability/Durability : 10
this guitar is so light and the neck is extremely narrow....i thought it was a six string at first! it doesnt feel like it will ever break, but what do i know? it kicks ass right now at least and i think im gonna give up my six string for it!!!!

This guitar is great. The clean and dirty tones I can get from this axe are excellent. I have been playing for 3 years and this is my third electric. I also own a Squire Strat (piece of shit) and an Ibanez RG220 (pretty good). I run these guitars into a Vox Wah, Boss Metal Zone, and Electro Harmonix Small Clone (the best chorus around).
The tones I get out of this guitar is amazing. Go try it - you'll buy it.

This geetar was made in '99 in Japan. It has the standard Ibanez 24 fret setup. its a solid top which helps contribute to its sound. This puppy has a H/H setup, with the new Ibanez Vintage 7 (neck) and 8 (bridge) pickups, with a single tone and volume, and the 5 way selector switch. It has the RG super-strat style body, with a lower cut, that allows easier access to the higher frets. Black hardware, black pickups, black body, black everything, black is all your gettin' (but it looks really good.) String through body setup, with locking grover tuners. A fat rosewood neck with jumbo frets, designed to accomidate the 7th string.

THIS THING SOUNDS GREAT!!!!!!!This guitar is great for any style (which is what i play). With a little effect tweaking you can get clean jazz tones or really low and heavy Korn-ish distortion. I play this axe through my Snarling Dogs Blue Bawls Wah, an Electro-Harmonix Small Stone, a TS9 TubeScreamer, a DOD 60's fuzz, and a BOSS Chorus. Then play it out to my modified combo setup that involves an old Marshall combo to old stereo equipment i've bought at yard sales. I was suprised with this guitar because there is no feedback what-so-ever, which i found common with other 7 string brands like B.C. Rich, and Schecter. The low end comes in clear with little buzz, even when playing an B5 chord. It has a 5 way pickup setup, which allows a variety of bassy rhythm sounds or bright lead sounds. I just wish that ibanez started making a seven string RG that had the seperate tone and volume controls for each pickup.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
When I got this thing it was about a 1/4 step out of tune, but I soon fixed it. The action was a little high for my taste when i started to dish out riffs. So i lowered it a bit to better fufill my needs. I can't detect any flaws on it, it's completely solid.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I would play this guitar live without a backup, its to much of a solid guitar not to trust. I believe that the hardware with last for a while. However, ive heard horror stories of the paint chipping off them like mad, i just hope it wont happen to me. As I said before IT'S A FUCKING ROCK.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Ive never had to deal with Ibanez directly, but they must have the worst customer support ever. I have heard so many "bad" things about them I dont wanna even think about it.
P.S.- Just for everyones knowledge here is Hoshino's "customer support" number I got from the back of GW- 215-638-8670 Just try to get a straight answer from them. I dare you.

Overall Rating : 10
Honestly, I have always loved the way Ibanez's have played and this is just another guitar to back up my cause. I own a Gibson Les Paul Special, and I have owned other high range electrics, and this guitar fits right up there. I STRONGLY URGE ALL OF HUMANITY TO BUY THIS GUITAR TO SAVE US FROM THE COMING APOCOLYPSE THAT MUSIC IS BECOMING.

Made 1n 1999, basswood body, 24 frets (like most of Ibanez's 7 strings. One volume and one tone pot, five way selector. Super strat body shape, fixed bridge, two Ibanez humbuckers(highe output), jumbo frets.

Sound : 8
I play very heavy music ( Fear Factory, Korn, Meshuggah, Metallica, Slayer, etc.) I play this guitar through a Line 6 POD, on the Modern Hi-Gain setting and I get a very crunchy sound, perfect for metal. With the noise gate on the POD, it makes no noise whatsoever. I LOVE everything about this guitar. The clean, even with the drive at 0, the sound is still a little crunchy. When I say 8, I mean 10 for the distortion and 7 for the clean. With the low B tuning, you can get a really heavy, sludgy sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
This guitar was set up excellent from the factory. The action was perfect for me. I can not see anything wrong with this guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I am not a gigging musician yet, but this guitar would definitly withstand gigs, this guitar will probably last as long as I will. The strap buttons are solid, my strap hasn't come off once while playing. I can really on it without a backup whenever I start gigging.

I have had this guitar less than a month, but I know it will be my main guitar for the rest of my life. As far as 7-strings, Nobody should even consider getting an ESP or Shechter or BC Rich, go with the company that has had the most experiance in making them and the one that most artists (Dino Cazares, Munky and Head, Wes Borland, Marten Hagstrom And Fredirick Thordendal, John Petrucci, and Steve Vai.) who use 7 strings use.
