Bought in February 06 at Ranking Sport, Bras Basah Complex. Visited the site at http://www.jandd-guitars.com/index-1.htm
Though this is a Taiwan (Republic Of China) compay, 'heard' that their gears are made in China (People's Republic Of China)though head office is in ROC
This is a 20 fret standard Dreadnought with solid Englemann spruce. Back & Side are Mahogany plys. Neck is also Mahonany with another piece at the heel & so is the head stock (odds & ends are glued in) Though I'm not a tone wood expert but the lightness of this top is a good confirmation. The grain are not even, obvious wider grains towards the lower bout but definitely it is 2 piece joint together & nothing more. It might had sawn out too far from the center of the log. Well, there's some excessive glue when scrutinizing thru the sound hole when I first picked it up.
I was drawn to this Lady when the shop technician HAN, a malay in his 40s was introducing this Beau to a young couple. He play a few bar of jazzy stuff with some soft right hand finger picking & the sound & response of this Lady blew me off. Unamazed, the couple walked away to another corner of the shop. I picked it up. It had got quite new strings on. Action is even lower than some Ovation at the 14th fret. I play it with my usual more than normal, hard tucking on the strings, MAN.... this Lady can sing. I told Han that I want this gal & his lowest offer is S$270. I test my new found love thru an acoustic amp with her built-in 4 key EQ & 1 Volume control knob. The bass & treble are even when it came thru the cone.
With this price & sound, I think I can forget about the Timothy S7 that was being over promoted & over priced. I'd tested & found it worth, a S$700+ ZION guitar (all Solid wood dreadnought c/w hard shell case) at The Living Strings in Excelsior Hotel Mall.
Also, the MAESTRO EJ-3 all solid wood Southern Jumbo cut-away is going for around the same price is worth the money. These are 'My Version' of 'High End Guitars' which is comparable with the Timothy S7 & yet almost a couple of 100s cheaper.
Psssst, by the way, a TGM C3 Classical with solid Sitka Spruce top is worth the money, but do not use hard tension strings. By the way, my Daddy ain't rich & I had not struck a goldmine after all those years of shafting.

Great volume (really unplugged) & great response for a S$270 guitar

No complain but accolades. The original strings are 12 to 53s under a micrometer, I changed to a 11 to 50s a week later and there were frets buzz on the 5th string at the 3rd to 7th fret. Didn't want to mess up the original setting if I adjust the truss rod so I put up new 12s on her & guess what, the buzz is gone.

After 1.5 month being together & played her with different position, ahem... I mean tunings, The strings & tuning knobs holds well. Unlike my Made In Korea's Ovation that comes with 2 strap buttons, This Lady is just like a D28 or any other Flat Top (I mean, flat top guitars)

Not here in Singapore, but Ranking Sports & staff at Novelty in Park Lane Mall are so helpful You wont mind if these 'High End' guitars do not have as in Taiwan.

If I got some money again, I'll buy a higher range Zion or Maestro. But this lady is worth every cent & I think I'll be with her for more years to come
