J&D Lutherie Les Paul- made in Taiwan
Mahogany body, maple top, same timber construction as my Gibson & Epiphone.
Control pots are full size (not the crappy half size ones in my Epi)
Nickel hardware seems good,You can get upgraded stuff from Wilkinson I think.Frets good and level

Sound : 8
Great for metal or blues / rock and when put through a Marshall it sound great. Pickups are as good as my Epiphone.
Has a headstock which looks like my Gibson L/P.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Factory setup was Ok but I adjusted the action and pickup height to suit me.
Action beats my Epi hands down.Nice Rosewood fretboard.
It has a really nice clean slab of american maple on the top.

Reliability/Durability : 10
The whole guitar is really solid, the neck, wiring etc is all good.
I believe this company used to build Les Pauls for Epiphone some time back but it got to expensive for Epiphone to build in Taiwan so Epiphone then moved production to Korea and now to China.
This guitar is built better than alot of more expensive guitars.

Customer Support : 9
Not had a problem, but it does have a 12 month warranty

Overall Rating : 10
Well, I build guitars and I went through this thing from one end to the other before buying it.As a L/P copy goes, have not seen anything near it for the money (half the price of an Epi)
Always wanted a cherryburst Les Paul, now I got one(even looks like a Gibson headstock)
Comparison - Epiphone J&D LUTHERIE
BODY Mahogany Mahogany
FRETBOARD Rosewood Rosewood
BODY TOP Maple Maple
TUNERS Generic Generic
Pickups Epi designed Wilkinson designed

Retail is about half that of an Epiphone.,decent pickups - what more could you want.

Well, as it's already mentioned in previous reviews, this guitar is a Les Paul Custom clone. Made in Taiwan. Mine has a white finish and gold-plated hardware, which is the reason why I call it Blondy. :) As far as I'm concerned, body and neck are made of mahogany, fretboard is Rosewood with white perloid inlays. It also has a black-white-black pickguard, black cylindric pots. Looks great. Its head even has this weird shape, almost like an original Gibson LP, so I doubt that during live performance anyone would be able to tell whether or not this axe is genuine Gibson.
Great looks, all the classic features.

Sound : 7
The sound. It was awful, when plugged in! Weak, dull, squeeling... I had to take out the pickups unsolder the cover, waxdip the bobins, put the cover back, wax-dip again, solder the cover to the base... Having done that I was amazed and totally blown out with the sound it delivered! The pickups are based on Alnico magnets, have vintage output and properly waxed deliver nice PAF-like tone. The guitar sounds sweet, got a pretty wide dynamic range, but lacks sustain.

Out of the box it deserves no more than 3, having worked on it it scores 10. Having that in mind I give it 7.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The factory set-up wasn't great either. I had to adjust scale, action, truss-rod in order to match my demands for playability. I also had to file frets a little. All the flaws may make you wanna hunt for a better built instrument. But I must admit that these tweaks ain't no big deal at all. Took me less than an hour. So ig you got brains and hands you may eventually find yourself being happy with an excelent guitar that looks and performs like some major brands' products at no extra cost. It's up to you, but I don't regret time and money spent on it.
Action, Fit, & Finish are OK. And simply great for the price.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Used it in live performances. But once again, don't try it live right out of the box, or you'll be bitterly disappointed. Slightly tweaked it's a very reliable and great sounding istrument, otherwise - it's a piece of crap. It's the little things, remember? :)

Customer Support : No Opinion
Have no idea if there is any customer support, wouldn't contact them anyway.

I play more than fifteen years. During this period I covered many styles, from contemporary christian music through rock, blues, jazz, metal. There's only one thing this guitar cannot do for me - it's the whammy bar tricks. :) Just kidding. You wouldn't expect it to sound like a Strat or Tele, which is the sound I'm not after.
Generally now I'm happy with it, BUT I had to fix some flaws it had when I bought it brand-new. Soundwise it totally puts away my other guitar of the far superior quality, Ibanez RG620. Now it's my favorite axe. I plan to change stock pickus in my Ibanez in order to make it sound better or at least as good as this guitar.
I also compared it with Gibson Les Paul Classic, for which its owner paid almost 3000 USD and mine sounds almost just as good, but as I mentioned, has a little less sustain. Once again, don't try to compare these two in a music store, the difference will be huge! :)

For those who aren't in the know, the LC-3 is a Les Paul Custom rip off, although funnily enough it is of a higher quality than most standard Epiphone LPs. J&D's are manufactured in Korea it think, but don't qoute me on that. Mine came in a slightly creamy white finish with "gold" hardware and a black pickguard. I have no idea what wood it is made of, apart from the fingerboard which is rosewood. It has basically the same specs as an Epi LP, 2 Humbuckers (some obscure Asian brand), 3-way pickup selector, two volume knobs, two tone knobs and a stopbar tailpeice. It has a relatively thin neck, 22 frets, block inlays and it plays surprisingly smooth.

Sound : 6
I don't know how consistant the sound is throughout these guitars, but the one I have is good if you tweak it right. When I bought this guitar (about four years ago), I used to play a lot of classic rock (Cream, Zeppelin, Floyd ect.) and it was alright, but nothing special. I used to play it through a 50 watt Marshall and a Peavy Classic 30, and the sound was either too bitey or too muddy, the bridge pickup has an assload of treble and the tone knob doesn't change this untill it hits zero, when it cuts the treble all together. The neck pickup is generally too dull and muddy to play rock and roll, unless you really smash on the treble and back off the mids and bass. These days I play predominantely jazz and blues, and although I have other guitars that do the job much better, I sometimes pull out this old girl using the neck pickup through a Vox ADvt100.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
When I first bought it the action was really high, but that was easily fixed. I found that the "gold" plateing on the bridge and tailpiece came completely off on some parts ater about a month of use, but I don't mind, it adds character.

Reliability/Durability : 6
This guitar hold up alright live, except these days the bridge pickup just occasionally stops working for a little bit, then kicks back in. It doesn't happen too often, and I couldn't be bothered fixing it. It has withstood a fair amount of live perfomance and plenty of abuse, so I'm not complaining. I wouldn't take her on stage without a backup though.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with 'em.

Overall Rating : 7
Overall a great guitar for beginners, but if you're looking for something a bit more professional you might want to look elsewhere.

Dunno the year it's made, possibly last year (2005). On the island of Taiwan I suppose, but I don't really know where J&D have their guitar factory. 22 frets. Two humbuckers, haven't yanked them out to see who made them. 2 tone, 2 volume, standard LP 3-way toggle switch. All passive electronics. Body is either alder or mahogany, neck is either maple or mahogany, fretboard is rosewood with lovely block inlays a la Les Paul Custom. The whole guitar is painted in a creamy white nuance, the front, rear and headstock binding is gorgeous; it looks a hell of alot better than any Epiphone I've seen so far.Tune-o-matic bridge with the intonation screws turned towards the bridge pickup, ha ha ha! Lovely feature, dontcha think? Kluson die-cast tuners. All metal parts gilded/goldplated/or whatever it's called. black/white/black pickguard. The neck is surprisingly thin, which feels very nice; scale length is 628 mm, fret radius 350 mm.
No extra stuff came with the guitar, it was the only white LC3 left in the shop; apparently they've been selling real good. I did get a cardboard box for free to take it home with as it's still winter here.

Sound : 9
Haven't had time to plug it in and crank my tube amps yet but I'm sure it'll sound just fine.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Action and intonation was perfect, surprisingly enough. The neck pickup had the silly polepiece-screws too high, and the mounting ring for said pickup had slightly misaligned srewholes. Neck tone pot was loose but was easy to adjust; just tighten the nut a little. There's a few blemishes in the top layer of paint, but it's no big deal; it doesn't affect the playability and any potential audience wouldn't be able to see them anyway. The fret-ends were a bit rough round the edges, but that was easily sorted with a small file.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I've just bought the thing, so can't really say anything about this.

Customer Support : No Opinion
He, I seriously doubt I'll ever need to contact J&D headquarters in Taiwan.

Overall Rating : 9
Seeing as the price for this guitar according to the shops website has recently been raised to 2795 SEK, I must have gotten lucky; they probably hadn't had time to change the pricetag. Considering the low price I can't fault J&Ds slightly lacking quality control. Any blemishes are what makes each instrument unique, and a unique instrument is very rare in these days of standardised mass production. If someone stole this guitar I'd hunt them down and roast them over a slow fire ;)
