Last year I met Jim Nunis, of Nunis guitars USA, and was really impressed with the quality of his guitars and amazed at the price. I decided to have him build a guitar for me.I chose a single cut away with a set neck. I picked out the woods and features and color. The body and neck are made from solid Honduras mahogany (spellings?). Both are one piece woods. The top is Venezuelan flamed maple that is far better than most of the tops out there. Jim uses Seymore Duncan pickups. Excellent pickups. It has two Seymore humbuckers that are bluesy thick at a low level and scream when cranked. Jim uses 16 to 20 nitro celulose hand rubbed coats. The nitro makes a tremendous difference in the feel and sound. It has a Tune-O-Matic bridge with a stop tail pice. I chose Grover tuners and they are as tight as ever.Jim let me tell him the type of neck I wanted. It's a cross between a 60's and a 50's neck. The frets are a stainless steel-nickle combination, medium. They feel really good and last a lot longer. The case is a very cool solid retro type hard shell case.

I later had Jim put in push pull pots to give a little of that single coil sound. This gives me a nice variety of sounds. I play a wide variety from classical to blues to loud crank up the marshall rock ( but it goes up to 11 ! ). I use the guitar with Vox or marshall amps. Lately I've been running through a Line6 POD directly into the board. No problem with any noise. As I said before, it has great tone. I would like to try to see if I could get more of that strat sound with different wiring. Jim said if we do that it could decrease the quality of the regular humbucker sound.

The guitar plays great. It was given to me in excellent playing condition. Everything was set just where I requested it to be. The top is far better than any of my Gibsons or PRS guitars!!!!!!

This guitar is my primary guitar. I don't need to bring any back ups. It is a reasonable weight and there are NO holes cut into it to make it lighter. Just solid mahogany. I can prove it. I x-rayed the guitar and one of my flame top Gibsons. The Gibson had all kinds of holes and the Nunis didn't! The finisher just keeps looking better and better every time I look at it.

When I had Jim switch the regular pots for push pull pots his turn around time was excellent. And, Jim re-buffed the guitar for me at no extra charge.

I've been playing for 34 years. I own a wide variety of guitars and amps. Most of my guitars just sit in their cases while I use my Nunis guitar. The color on the top is incredible. It really brings the flame out. I would have another built if it was stolen. The best feature is the way it just sits with you and flows as you play it. A lot of guitars fight you, this one is an extension of you. I was going to buy another flamed Gibson Les Paul, but after I checked this out I couldn't. I'm thinking of selling my PRS.
