I payed $40. for this black telecaster with a rosewood fretboard, a
strat p/u at the bridge, and a fake lipstick at the neck. I cannot
believe the sound that comes out of this. I've had Gibson Les Paul
Goldtop Classic, Fender Strat w/ wilkinson rolling nut, spurzel lock
ing tuners, 3 gold-lace, I've had Yamaha 6120S, Guild S300A-D,
Gibson ES-175, and a whole lot more... but... this is the best.
My plan is to slip in a danelectro lipstick from out of a vintage
silvertone suitcase, and add another optional electronic feature to
it. I've gotten the action really low for various appogiatura-type
hammer on / pull offs. The tone knob on this is incredible... it
can go from a very hard metal tone to an almost tubular bells kind
of sound. Amazing range. This one is a keeper.

It was set up like crap, and sold cheap. I re-set it up, and now
I feel sorry for the fellow who dumped it, because he never knew
what he had. Perhaps he had a cheap amp or something.

My support engineer is very attentive to technical details,
though his wife says he neglects her in favor of his guitars.

First off, I don't know what kind of Sledge these other guys bought, but my Sledgehammer by JB Player is an exact copy of a Strat with a Jackson style headstock. I've got no idea where or when it was made, but it's by far my favorite guitar I've had prolly ever. It's got 22 frets on a maple neck with a maple fingerboard, which tends to be a little sticky, maybes it's just the strings...I just got it back from a friend. It's got 3 single coils, again going back to the exact Strat copy. If you've played any Fender guitar, you've got it covered. The tuners don't lock, nor does the bridge, it's a crappy non locking tremolo that if you even look at it, it goes out of tune. Though when it's tuned up, this baby screams!

On the distortion channel, the single coils SUCK! All that feedback :( But on the clean channel, this thing puts both my Ibanezes, and my Jackson to shame. It's got the most gorgeous clean tone to it that I love! I play heavy metal and it's just fine for me. It's got the traditional style you can sit down and play, or strap up high and play better (regardless of what Green Day fans say). When I have it strapped up high I have total control of my guitar and the sound of the song I'm playing with this little devil. I have it going through a DOD Tec8 pedal into my stereo, cuz I don't have an amp anymore :( I don't know much about the actual variety of the guitar, cuz I have so many different effects that the pedal is creating variety. But the guitar sounds good on all channels. The only dislike to this guitar is the bridge.

The action is good, I can play solos fairly effortlessly until my pinky gets tired. The guitar has no flaws, 'cept a good size ding from where my idiot frind must have dropped it or something.

I've had it overall for about 2 years now and it's still playing very well. I think it'd take live playing, if I had some sort of pedal to cut out feedback from the single coils. It's been takin abuse for years from a guy I bought it from who can shred with the best of em. It's a little dirty, but it still plays fine. I'd naturally take a backup guitar on stage, unless someone inveted break-less strings.

Nope, no idea...never had to deal with em, I don't even know if J.B. Player is still around or not.

By far my favorite guitar I've ever played. Beats my Ibanez Blazer, Ibanez EX Series, and Jackson Rhoads in every category except maybe looks. Also the bridges on the Jackson and EX are better, just since they're Floyd. I've been playing for about 6 years and I love everything about this axe...to bad I'm about to sell it so I can get another Jackson. If it were stolen, and I could find another one of these, I'd buy it. I love it's sound...I can shred on this thing much faster than I can on my others, and the others have better necks and pickups. One last thing...if you find a Slegehammer with the Strat body and Jackson style headstock, BUY IT! You won't be disappointed.

Not sure what year...Looks late 80s to early 90s. Made in USA. 22 frets, maple neck bolted onto a Tele look-alike casing. Navy blue w/ white pickguard, 3-way toggle tone, tone and volume knobs in chrome. headstock very close to that of a Tele's, so the difference would be hard to notice unless people are real close at a gig. Body wood is presumably ash w/ satin finish. Tele-style bridge, Tele neck (w/ plastic coating that makes wearing out the neck impossible - a nice touch). Large frets. Gig bag included (bought used).

I play blues, rock, and funk, so this is great with clean tones, and much raunchier and ragged with distortion. amps vary, but now since I'm on vacation (or at least not home), I use an Ibanez practice amp. Punched into a Fender amp, this really sings. If you like bright Fender tones, the Sledge delivers. Haven't experimented much with effects, but it seems very versatile. I changed the dealer strings right away from good old D'Addarios, and it sounds great. The low E string buzzes from time to time and the volume is a little sluggish, but no major problems.

The action is why I picked this guitar. It "called" to me at the store. The Tele neck is smooth and fun and easy to grip, so it's better for a starter or for messing around (I use a new Gibson LP for recording w. its better tone). A few dings in the finish on the left side, but it's structurally all there.

Like Strats, these things are made to last. J.B. Player did a great job with the electronics and getting it to feel and sound like a Tele. I like that it seems to be a little less bright than a Tele, more scratchy, even if I play only through the bridge pickup, which is single coil. The other is a SC "lipstick" style p/u. The guitar reminds me of the Buick from "Rain Man" or the "Karate Kid." If you crash it into something, it's the OTHER thing that's going to suffer! It's a tank, to say the least. I would carry an extra at a gig in case the strings break, but I'm not worried about the guitar itself.

Music-Go-Round sold me my first acoustic, and I've had nothing but good service from the shops in Des Moines and Fargo. No warranty on the Sledgehammer, but I would buy a real Tele or a G&L custom to replace it.

Been playing for two years. Own a new Gibson LP Studio besides this, as well as a Fender DeVille and Ibanez practice and distortion pedals. What I love most about it is the neck -- it's a big contrast to the Gibson and gives me the punk and hard blues edge when I need it. It's also the old Caddy of guitars; it'll never fall apart. It's navy blue w/ a white pickguard, so I painted flames ascending to smoke, which blends into the pickguard, so obviously I don't plan on selling it. It would be cool to have a Bigsby tremolo bar on it, just for kicks.

I bought this copy of a Gibson Les Paul Custom guitar (brand new) off of E-Bay for $125 U.S and had to pay an additional $75 U.S in Canadian taxes, delivery and insurance. This guitar was assembled in Rhodesia (made in Korea). It came with a beautiful solid black laminated top (not a mark on it.) It has one humbucker pick-up and one single coil pick-up. It has 22 frets with a bolt on mahogany neck. The overall quality is very surprising for the price. The only beef so far are the tuners are not very good and I will be replacing them. Setting it up was a breeze. Overall finish is excellent (better than expected.) Cheap toggel switch had to be replaced almost immediately.

Amazing sustain. I've pushed this through both my Fender Chorus amp and my old Peavey Pacer and this guitar screams and can really hold a note. The combination of the humbucker and coil really adds to the sound. My buddies can't believe the sound for the dollar. Very clean warm sound when not using the distortion setting. Excellent range of sound. I have both a Gibson Les Paul and a Fender Strat and when comparing, the sound of the Sledge Hammer is almost as good (depending on what sound you want.

The guitar needed a little work on the set-up after the long journey via UPS. The pickups were well adjusted and the intonation only required minor adjustment. As already mention, the toggle switch on the pick-up selector had to be replaced (threads were no good.) Also the tuning pegs should be replaced (and will be) with something a little more substantial. The neck action is fantastic, i.e., fast and very easy to play. No strain. The neck is slender and great for folks with small hands.

I've had it for 4 months and it appears to be holding up well. (I play it and my Gibson LP a lot of the time.) Solid strap buttons, very clean and easy to care for finish. Always check the strap buttons them before you use them. (I've had even some high priced guitars with loose strap buttons.) I have used this guitar for a few gigs and on several informal occassions and for the price would recommend it.

I've been playing guitar on and off for 20 plus years, but only seriously in the last 4. As mentioned, I have a Gibson Les Paul jr (GEM Series), Gibson Melody Maker (1964), Fender Strat (Japanese), Fender Acoustic, Takemine Special Ed 1997). If lost or stolen, I would be very upset, but my wife would be even more upset if I bought another guitar. I love the neck and overall feel of this guitar. I originally bought this guitar on a whim. (I couldn't believe I won the bid at $125 and was pleasantly surprised with the overall quality and playability.)
