Made in 2006. 24 frets. Flame maple top. '59 Seymour Duncan pickups. Korina body. Ebony fiingerboard. Locking tuners. Custom neck profile wide and fat.

Sound : 9
My band plays a wide variey of music - pop, rock, metal and some raggae. This is the primary reason I choose a guitar like the Earlewood - I need only one guitar save the few exception (no whammy). The tonal possibilities are enough to love this guitar. This guitar is hotter (brighter) than my other guitars, but as someone said, you can't make a dark guitar brighter. Is use it primarily with my THD Flexi 50 and several analogman pedals - Tube screamer, Chorus, DS - 1 and a HK reverb/echo. I am aware of the brightness and deal with that through tone controls. When splitting the single cools, the best you can do a get a hot rodded strat sound - even when rolling off the volume the JET is "thicker" than a strat. Not a problem for me - one less pedal I have to kick in.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
My question is this piece of art or an instrument? It is gorgeous. But it also sounds as good/better than it looks and is a dream to play. I decided that I'm playing this guitar - if something happens - so be it. I'm not a collector and I don't expect to make money one day by selling this guitar. Meticulous attention to detail - not one flaw to my eyes. I have other guitars - Strat, Les Paul and one I made myself. I love my strat - don't get me wrong, but they all feel and sound inferior after playing the JET. I don't even bring them to gigs anymore.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Evrything about this guitar is solid. The finish has worn off the bridge, bu I think that is to be expected.

Customer Support : 9
E-mails only - Jeffrey is helpfull and responsive.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
Playing off and on for 20 years - I have a job so I don't expect to go on the road anytime soon. This is my second Earlewood - after playing my first (around 2003) I decided I played better and was much more confortable with a wider/thicker neck - and I wanted a more natural finish (violin amber color). The neck came out wonderful and the finish is a thing of beauty. What I like the best is when this guitar is strapped around my neck - a dame good feeling. I would replace it in a minute - although I think I would have wait 6 months or so.

Bought this from Ed Roman in about 2001. it was my first 'nice' guitar. I added the vine of life inlay (about a grand extra) and a Korina back (well worth it if you want ultra light weight)Prior to that I would not have considered spend 'that kind of money' on a guitar. After 5 years I will now not spend much less. It really has been worth it. The feel the tone and the beauty make it a joy to take it off the rack and practice. It is a quality piece of workmanship and art. Quilt top, gold hardware, vine of life inlay, quilt headstock. The Earlwood is pretty much standard in configuration. I got the Korina back which makes it feather light with out sacrificing tone or sustain.

Rhythm, great with note clarity up and down the neck clean and distorted.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Had a neck issue in the first year. Minor tweak to the tension rod and it was back in action. I'm in Las Veggas, a dry desert and these are made in the East, a swamp. It was probably a humidity issue.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I just bought #004. It was the first guitar he sold retail. After 8 years it is holding up well. I will say that his finish work improved greatly. This #004 is just average in finish. Every other one (and I oogle every one Ed Roman gets in stock) I have seen since I bought mine is perfect!

Customer Support : 10
Except for the tension seting in year one...no problems. I had Jeffery do the finish on an Ed Roman Quicksilver last year. He is the man. If I were having my cabinets refinished I'd have him do it. The guy is a genius with wood, stain and top coating.

Overall Rating : 10
Playing since the 60s off nand on. I am not a great player. I cannot say I am able to put a guitar to the test. I do acquire guitars though and I have owned some nice ones. Right now JET is the only brand I'm looking to add to the collection. I have just the color and inlay oin mind and I know Jeff will do the job.

Already noted. A new point I would like to make - I generally am indifferent to a bolt vs. a typical set neck with a nasty heel - but the way JET does the deep pocket set neck works extrordinarily well and this is a superior design without a doubt.

Sound : 10
This is an update on my previous review after owning this guitar for several years, playing a LOT more, and owning and playing many more guitars to compare it with. No question this guitar is one of few being made or sold today that has a unique vibe of its own, and a deserved legendary excellence. Previously I compared it to many other guitars and while I would agree it can be used to play a lot of music that was recorded on different guitars, it does not in any way nail those tones. That said, if you adore the Strat, Tele or LP sound, buy one of those and be happy. This guitar does not make the SRV sound for example - (but how I would have loved to hear the man play a JET). If you want something different, this is one of the guitars that has its own thing going in spades. Very high gain humbucking passive pickups that can do the overdrive rock thing, yet roll off to be clean using the volume on the guitar - great for live use. With the tone circuit, a capacitor in there keeps the tone bright as you roll off the volume, unlike the typical LP humbucking circuit - I would guess it similar to the Tele circuit. This guitar has a 5 way neck HB, neck split single coil, both (unknown - might be neck and bridge single coils together), bridge split single coil, bridge HB. When switched to the single coils, this guitar can really cut through a mix. I must admit though when in single coil mode - the pickups are noisy like vintage single coils - not really a problem for me playing live - but I avoid it for clean studio stuff. The rear PU in single coil can be really punchy and do a fabulous Tele kind of thing extrordinarily well. The center position is amazing, kind of does a super-articulate chime - you can really have fun here - this might be the best ever guitar for doing jangle tone rock - you can hear the string attack noise and it is just simply a sonic feast that is unmatched and totally unique. Amazing for Eagles, Doobie Bros, Beatles, any country sound, most any pop rock sound. Using the humbuckers full on this can crank with the best and hottest passive HB guitars out there - but the fine acoustics of this design are best appreciated when dialing this guitar amped clean. Rare guitar that can do country, funk, metal, prog, blues. Also, this is the only guitar I own where I actually like and often use the single coil split of a humbucker - I am guessing its the gain that works.

This guitar is at its absolute best plugged straight into your favorite tube amp with no effects except maybe a bit of reverb or bit of a high quality chorus or echo if you insist. If you can play well, you won't need effects to make this guitar sound beautiful.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Enough said already. My guitar had a couple of unusual finish flaws that were taken care of nicely by Jeff.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Enough said. Its a lightweight korina body. If you want a log, get a Tele. Finish is some kind of indestructible poly. Personally I prefer nitro, but this seems tougher. I had a switch issue that was fixed. I used to not play this one out much, but found I needed the tone live. Honestly that's what its for, so now I do. Its just a guitar and its meant to be enjoyed.

Customer Support : 10
Jeff seems to be a great guy, fixed a couple of things for me, put on some locking tuners. Answers e-mail personally. Its amazing dealing with a builder directly and he is on the A+ list without any doubt.

Overall Rating : 10
Can't say this guitar is any kind of necessary purchase. Simply said, if you can't play the guitar buying one of these won't help you. As a matter of fact, it will tend to reveal your warts. I know some guys that can make you weep on a $300 Squier or Epi. (not that they would play one). So its not going to make you a guitar hero.

This is however one of those extrordinarly rare custom guitars that is worth the purchase if you can afford it and want a new sound, or a beautiful and different guitar that also happens to be very light weight. Also it IS different. I don't think I would like it as my only guitar - sometimes sonically I just need to play my Strat, Tele or another custom that does some things for me this one can't do.

Most unlike any other guitar I have owned or seriously played to the point of almost purchasing, JET is going in a direction of its own - (for example not trying to be a better Strat like Suhr).

As a final note, if you are only going to play through a modeling amp or anything other than a high quality tube amp - don't waste your money on a guitar like this - you won't hear or really appreciate the difference until you get good amplification.

See every other review for features - how many times do you have to hear beautiful wood. Got this one used from Infinity Guitars. Randy was great to deal with.

Sound : 10
I play rock ranging from 60s to recent chick rock. This guitar can cover it all. Straight into the amp nails early zz-top pearly gates tone, yet it can adequately comp a nice P90 tone for those single coil tunes. The middle position of the pickup selector provides reduced output which is very useful for rapid changes from clean to higher gain sections - nice for recent pop. The guitar is very resonant - and seems to have a natural tuning around E. Produces lots of overtones making chords sound fuller, listen to Tush and Jesus for good examples. Rest of the band really likes it compared to my other options - strat and LP Jr usually.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Not going to spend lots of time here. If I want to nit pick I could find something to complain about - but mostly it looks and plays pretty much perfect right out of the box. Mine has the two parrot inlay - which I wouldn't recommend unless you really need em. Really pretty - but you will be surprised how often you cue on the inlays for position. These inlays are evenly spaced on the fretboard which does not align with any standard position. I am getting used to it but I would prefer a standard inlay. There are side markers - but they tend to disappear into the maple binding when the lights go down.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I have played this out several times - dive clubs and outside a couple times with no issues. Stays in tune like a rock. Really dependable. I do not expect any issues with this guitar.
By the way - contrary to most - I do play this out on a regular basis - it is just too good not to.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No comment since I have not dealt with JET. Based on the quality of the guitar I would expect Mr. Terwilliger to stand behind his product unless you dropped it or sat on it or something sad like that.

Overall Rating : 9
I traded my 59 LP Historic and a bunch of cash for this guitar. I do not miss the LP one bit. This guitar is what I expected the LP to sound like. Even better - it weighs about 6.5 pounds! It is expensive, but if you consider the cost of materials - very high quality - and the manufacturing time - the cost is high but not shocking for a hand made piece. I do wish I heard about JET 4 years ago - might have picked one up for much less. What this guitar does differently than my others - it is so much more expressive than anything I have ever played. I have backed off the compression, gain, delay, etc because you don't need it. Pinches, harmonics, sustain - its all right there. No gimmicks or other junk needed just you and the guitar. Truly an amazing guitar. I really hate giving 10s for everything - but this guitar really deserves the accollades. It is expensive - but not much more than a mass produced - custom shop LP. I would definitely replace it if stolen - perish the thought.

I can get virtually any sound out of this guitar I want, from Blues to Rock to Country. I could not find a guitar that sounded good with my AX2 212, but I could not find a sound that I didn' like with this guitar. I play mostly through a fender blues tube amp.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
It came setup with very low action, which I like. It had absolutely no buzz. It also had awesome sustain. The only problem I had was that the neck pickup was angled a little too much for me , but I changed it so it is fine. There were a couple of pit's and a few surface scratches but that's to be expected. It is balanced very well, and the neck is awesome.

Reliability/Durability : 10
The only problem I have with this guitar is that it is almost too pretty to gig with, I would hate to scratch or ding it. I belive that with this quality construction it would hold up with the best of them.

Customer Support : 10
I had to deal with J.E.T. and he was very pleasant to deal with. I bought this guitar from Randy at Infinity guitars and he was also pleasant to deal with. Since I have had no problems, and do not anticipate any?... If you want to buy one of these guitars try Infinity Guitars, I have had bad luck with the other JET dealer, although these guitars are completely made by J.E.T.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 35 years and in my opinion this is the nicest guitar I have ever owned or played. If this guitar were lost or stolen I would be pissed because they have went up in price considerably since I bought mine, but I would sure try to get another one.

I play covers in various bands also some studio work for friends. The guitar has been tested from pro tools with guitar rig (totally digital) to bogner, budha , engl, mesa mark IV, pod anything i could pass it through. Excelled on all situations
What can I say not already said.. Very complex sound on all positions and the guitar is light as a feather. Also impressed by the balance on all the pickup positions. It is not a telecaster the sound is far more complicated

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
As it was bought second hand I do not know initial setup , but i noticed a slight ding on a couple of frets, so during setting up (I do all my set-ups , refrets , electronics to all my instruments) for Elixir 10 and lowish action this was taken care of

Reliability/Durability : 10
If you re not affraid to cart around a 5000 euros (say it slowly...)guitar it can handle anything with no backup. It is solid as a brick , very light, expertly finished and dependable.

Customer Support : 9
Jeffrey was prompt on the fret issue request and throwed in a tip or two.Very nice guy. Also I would like to thank Randy on infinityguitars for waiting on all the issues we had on the payments.Maybe the guitar should have been checked a little more thoroughly or maybe I search to the tiniest detail much more than usual

Getting close to 20 years of playing (owning anything from ada to mesa boogie , Ibanez RG 420 and Jems to casio midi MG-510, warmoth to PRS and kept nine guitars and a couple amps (including a tom scholtz sustainor!!!) and a pod), gigging regularly and decided to make a present to myself . Shopping around for about a year and in the process building some guitars i went for broke and decided on a high end instrument. From all the high end manufacturers i believe i chose the one that his vision is close to mine.If stolen i would be very sorrow. This is a keeper.Next step maybe an allesandro or something modular like a randal mts

Features : 10
Bought it 05/04 from Ed Roman, typical loaded Earlewood specs, just as stunning as the rest.

Sound : 10

The sound is quite astonishing with and even without an amp. This guitar has acoustics like no other, it is naturally loud due to the chambered body which really does make a huge difference. And then through my Mesa 50 Cal. + it really comes alive with a very wide spectrum of tones, what ever my heart desires is there. I play anything from Jr. Brown to Lamb of God and the Jet has it covered.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Setup could have been better. It was supposed to have been done before shipping and which it could have been but there was very minor fret buzzing, I contacted Jeff T. and a couple of adjustments later it was as good as gold.
The bookmatched top is liquid, quilted maple stained deep blue and it just looks bottomless with matching headstock (very nice). The back is quite an eye catcher also with a korina body and highly flamed 3 pc maple neck (words can't describe).
The polyester resin finish appears to be a very durable finish and has a a luster that just will not stop.

Reliability/Durability : 9
The finish is wearing off of the Tone Pros bridge where I rest my palm but that's kind of expected if you play alot. I do have problems keeping the input jack tight also.

Even though the finish seems be durable I still treat this thing like a new born baby when handling.

The strap buttons are large and I do have alot of confidence in them.

Customer Support : 10
I am sure Jeff T. backs his product 100%. Every time I emailed him he replied within a few hours. Awesome guy!

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing 28 yrs and have owned and played many high end guitars. I do consider myself very well informed and know what qualities a bontique guitar should possess and this one has them all.
There is a perfect balance here with beauty, sound & action and none surpass the other.
Great job Jeff!

Korina body, flamed maple top with binding, ebony fingerboard with maple binding. Jumbo frets. Laminated neck. Passive HH Duncan blackback picups w 5/way switching. Gloss transparent finish, satin on neck back. Grover tuners, string through body over rosewood block behind tune-o-matic bridge. Upside down strat jack plate in back of guitar is innovative and practical.

Sound : 10
This guitar tends to be brighter but don't confuse that with harsh or weak. If its a bit much you can roll it off easily. (Keep in mind you can't fix too dark)

Primarily blues, rock & roll through Matchless Chieftain 212, Blues Deluxe (retubed Eurotubes kit!!), waiting patiently for 18Watt Marshall (Bluesbreaker) clone. Through a POD XT as needed in home studio. I think it can be a bit too crispy with the Matchless and prefer it through the 18watt or the little Fender. It's fun to play it through a big stack but that's so not necessary for blues with any decent sound system these days ;0

This guitar can do the Les Paul/PRS/SG etc. thing way better than any of those guitars. Again, the tone is a bit brighter - you get a much better string sound but amazingly not the least bit harsh or brittle. In the split positions, a single coil sound is produced that is unique and stunning. In some ways like a ballsy Tele or tweaked Strat, but way, way more articulate. The design of this guitar is extrordinarily unique. Tone chambers and wood selection are amazing. One telling feature is the string through body going over the rosewood block. If you are expecting or wanting it to sound like a 'generic' axe with which you might be familiar with you are missing the point. Unlike any guitar I have ever owned, this one allows you to really express yourself. Picking and pulling technique variations, string muting, etc is remarkably and delightfully transmitted. When using a nicely overdriven tube amp you can coax an amazing range of sounds with this guitar. Very subtle elements of acoustic guitar tone lay beneath the primary electric style. This is not an accident but by design.

This guitar can weep and it can scream as well as do the chickin picken thing too. Also can do the ass kicking crunch with the single coil settings and right amp setup. Remarkable that it can do a Tele replacement and a Les Paul replacement and outdo both guitars easily just given correct switching and amps. If you suck this guitar will only make it more obvious as it certainly doesn't lie, but if you can play, you are in for some serious joy. I would have loved to hear SRV play this guitar.

Its a hard tail, so you can't wang, but I have yet to hear a whammy that's not a tone buster. (Of course if you are Vai or Satriani you don't need this kind of tone anyway, although I would like to hear what one of those guys could do with it.)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Beautiful.

It seems exceptionally light with the korina body, and feels fragile in that respect, however I have no evidance that it is not durable, however I admit I am extremely careful not to drop it, spill things on it, or bang it around.

Guitar had a teeny bit of shop wear (nothing significant) but I had to have it NOW after trying out. Of course the advantage there is that you get a remarkable setup. (I'm not good at waiting for people to build stuff)

The action on this guitar is superb, low enough to play extremely fast but still allow the string to properly resonate. A perfect neck/fretboard curve is required to allow this to happen.

Had a noisy pot after not playing for a month, but a couple of twists cleaned it up.

I use 10s. I would not touch the setup. It plays like its got 9s which makes me want to try 11s but then I'd have to risk losing the setup if I let somebody mess with it.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Although it seems rock solid in every way, I would not use this guitar anywhere where someone might knock it over or spill something on it. I use this for studio work and only occasional gigs. Its certainly seem as solid as a Fender (which is really a brick) but maybe that's because its so much lighter. Its got to be as solid as any guitar built with this kind of feature set. I'm not going to try to find out what it would take to break it.

If you are a primarily thrash/metal player and beat on your guitar you certainly don't need one of these anyway, although it would probably sound awesome but it totally has the wrong cosmetics.

As expected, the gold hardware on the bridge and knobs are losing goldness, but I've yet to own one that didn't, and this gives it a bit of character. Don't get the gold hardware if you can't accept this.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Its always been perfect so what can I say.

Overall Rating : 10
Playing 35 years, played and owned most common Fender, Gibson guitars over time. Still have several and other customs. Bought this on a search for the holy grail of guitars, somewhat without regard to $$. Yes I would replace it ASAP, although that's pretty tough to do given the availability.

I actually ration my playing on this guitar. I don't generally practice with it. When I am recording or doing a really important gig, or searching for some inspiration, out it comes and the tone astounds me and I generally get exactly what I wanted. I think if I used all of the time it would lose its magic and would tend to make me think all of my other guitars suck (and they really don't).

Favorite Feature: Its all About TONE! I would prefer to have locking tuners on it but I'm not sure I want to let anyone mess with it.

This top on this guitar is purple, which at times seems weird, at times I'd prefer something a bit more generic, but I did want a unique guitar and this puts it way over the top in that respect.

Would have liked the piezo option but this guitar predated that. Maybe a retrofit some day?

A very unique and satisfying instrument both tonally and visually.

If you can afford it, buy one before Jeff stops making them personally, I doubt you could make these on machines.

This guitar sure can rock. I can get classic blues tones, jazz, 60's-90's rock, the harmonics are incredible as is the sustain. Rich and full, the 5 way switch splits the coils for a very nice blend/selection of tones.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action was setup almost perfectly, the neck pickup is at a bit of an angle, I haven't tried to adjust it but I might. The finish is awesome, some slight blemishes, typical for a handmade guitar and you have to struggle to see them.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar is a work of art. I would not gig with it. It seems built very well, the strap buttons are oversized and I have no fear of it coming loose. I do not gig so no worries there for me. The finish has some slight blems were wood meets at certain peaks, but the poly-resin coating seems tough and easy to keep up with.

Customer Support : 10
Jeffrey Earle Terwillger is a class act. Before I purchased the guitar, he always quickly responded to my e-mails. I hope to never have to have it repaired, but if I do, I don't live too far from his shop! No warranty stated, but I feel confident that he stands firmly behind his work!

I also has a pleasant experience purchasing from Ed Roman.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 30 years, I have a nice collection, this one is my pride and joy. If it were stolen I would hunt down the person and extract several pounds of flesh. I would beg Jeffrey to build me another just like it. The neck is so fast the guitar almost plays itself.

Lefty Jet Earlewood plus (piezo-black saddle). Korina body (chambered), Ebony fretboard. 5-position pickup selector and 3 position toggle to enagage the piezo for acoustic guitar sounds. Quality craftsmanship and parts throughout. The only plastice on the guitar is the pickup bobbins (made by seymour duncan).

Sound : 8
Great humbucker sounds. Will shame any Les Paul for any year. The guitar is articulate whether being played clean or hi-gain. Crisp and punchy. The 5-way pickup selector is cool but I like the full on bridge position the best. The neck pickup will provide that woman tone with ease, through any amp, even a POD. This guitar will cover any humbucker sound...just better. The 5-way pickup selector is nice but don't expect strat or tele sounds, just shades of humbuckers. The piezo is a bit disappointing. It sounds good but the low action can cause some annoying buzz on acoustic guitar. The piezo makes it sound like a $800-$1200 acoustic. It is a nice extra feature to have at your tonal disposal. Overall this guitar has a unique sound all its own that is the best of anything you've heard in one package.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
This is where this guitar totally takes over the crowd. The neck fits like no other, plays like butter from stem to stern. It is so easy to get comfortable with this guitar it is like your thoughts are conveyed to the guitar without any effort. The setup is low and fast and the guitar has a sexy feel to it. Fretwork and inntonation is perfect. Quality bulletproof finish and parts throughout. A true 'no compromise' guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is the definition of reliabilty and durability. Perfect for any situation.

Customer Support : 10
Personal email and phone support with the man himself. Don't get any better.

Overall Rating : 10
In over 20 years of everyday guitar playing, I know one thing for sure when it comes to guitars....You don't always get what you pay for. You can spend well over $2K on a mass produced, mostly machine made average Gibson, PRS or opt for a truly hand-made, fine quality, last a lifetime, one of a kind, no compromise guitar for roughly the same price. This guitar will make a believer out of you and is the rare guitar that is actually worth more than it costs. Don't be brainwashed by the corporate advertising which has every kid thinking they got to have a Gibson or PRS or Fender. Those guitars are nice but none of them are in the same league as JET.

As mentioned, super flamed, carved maple top on korina. Routed tone-chambers throughtout entire korina back. Super lightweight, this guitar is near perfect design. Screamin' Seymour Duncan ND Black Back humbuckers w/ ebony pickup rings. Tone-Pros bridge combined with string thru design anchored by a piece of ebony & heavy duty string ferrules. Graphite nut. 24 frets with brass endplate to keep neck p/u in "sweet spot". Ebony fretboard w/ waxing to waning MOP inlays. Flame maple binding on body, neck & headstock. Headstock is "bookmatched" to body & made from same piece of wood. MOP JET logo is recessed into the headstock. Control covers & truss rod cover are wood. All gold hardware, with top of the line, jumbo Schaller tuners. Neck is maple, 3-piece compound radius (both outside pieces of the neck are highly flamed). Med to Jumbo frets with amazing playability & comfort. Seamless set neck with super comfortable, deep cutaways that allow for incredible upper fret access. 2-knob, vol/ton, w/ a 5-way selector. Oversized strap buttons (no locks needed). Custom JET hardshell case.

Sound : 10
The sound is awe-inspiring. The Duncan 'buckers w/ the 5-way selector alllows for a huge tonal palette. Everything from snap & pop Strat to Les Paul killing humbucking. The guitar is "LOUD" even unplugged & clean tones are woody & clear. There is almost a semi-hollow sound due to the extensive chambering. Distortion is fat & harmonic providing clarity & definition even with enourmous crunch. The guitar has singing susatin like I have never experienced before. Creamy cream... Overall the sound is incredible & unique & it makes me sad every time I have to stop playing. A "fresh" sounding guitar, the Earlewood will easily allow us to pave a new road in terms of quality sound !! Just amazing !!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The JET is truly a work of art in itself. The golden amber natural finish is flamed like I have never seen before. There is natural bookmatching & the intensity varies throughout creating a undulating effect. The maple binding is awesome to look at & also has a practical use when combined with the compund radius neck. The set neck is seamless & has next to no heel at all. The playability is so sensitive that it took a few days to get used to. The finish is done in "polyester" instead of the traditional nitro-cellulose. Polyester is 10 times as tough but, it also requires 10 times the factory work & that is why you seldom see it being used. Jeffrey buffed it to an amazing glow that should last a lifetime. Fretwork was flawless & the inlays are all done masterfully. This is "easily" the best, smoothest playing guitar I have ever touched. Thanks Jeffrey !!

P.S.
Just a note, when I received the guitar from Ed Roman it desperatley neede a set-up. I was repeatedly promised that it would be done prior to shipping. I know shipping can be rough on a guitar but, even the strings were grungy & old & the bridge looked like a 3rd grader set it. It was painfully obvious nothing had been done. It cost me an additional $70 after paying $2,700 for the guitar in the first place. IMHO, any guitar, never mind one that cost thousands, should be set-up by the merchant unless the customer requests otherwise. Does anyone else agree?? Watch out for this slacker Jeffrey & future consumers.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It is tough to tell yet but the overall design is 100% solid. I am sure it will be a reliable axe & I would easily gig w/o a backup. The "polyester" finish is a testament to the overall design of the Earlewood. It is............rock solid !!

Customer Support : 9
I spoke with Jeffrey a few times while I was waiting for the guitar & he was incredibly helpful & obviously very proud of his work. Jeffrey, was cordial, insightful & replied personally to my emails within a few hours. He even went so far as to "Ask" me if he could post excerpts from a letter I wrote him on his website. No particular warranty was implied but I get the feeling that Jeffrey would be scrambling to help if you had any problems. The only slight downer here is that the "ONLY" way to buy a JET is via the mini super-merchant Ed Roman. I had an overall decent experience but, public opinion of Ed is so scattered that it makes me a little nervous if I will have his support should a problem arise. Everything has been an A+ so far but, JET "needs" to find/have another dealer.

Overall Rating : 10
Overall this is the best guitar I could find anywhere at any cost. I spent about 5 years researching for the ultimate guitar. I think I found it.

2002 JET guitar,serial#066, handmade in North Carolina by Jeffery Earle Terwilliger
24 fret, ebony fretboard with waxing to waning moon inlays and flamed maple binding.3 piece laminated maple neck, the center piece on mine is highly flamed. The body style is single cutaway in a Les Paulish sort of way, very graceful in my opinion. The top is 2 piece, expertly matched, mastergrade birds-eye maple on a korina body. The finish is called "sunsetburst",when viewed at various angles it also has a subtle quilt to it,words can't begin to describe how stunning this guitar looks! The body and neck are stained in a transparent reddish brown color, the control cavity cover is also made of korina and stained to match. The headstock and truss rod cover is also birdseye maple in a matching burst finish with ebony and pearl inlays. The pickup trim and string guides are also ebony.
This guitar has 1 volume and 1 tone control with a 5-way switch that gives the best possible pickup sounds. The pickups are a matched set of SD non disclosure Blackbacks,Tone Pros Tune-O-Matic style bridge,String-thru body design,Schaller tuners and graghite nut.All hardware is gold-plated.Unique and innovative features are that the strat-style jack is reversed and cleverly located(no more big loops from routing cable through your strap). The 24th fret is a brass end plate screwed directly into the neck that allows the pickups to remain in the "sweet spot".The strap buttons are oversized so that strap-locks are not needed. It came with a hardshell case and a wrench to adjust the bridge.

Sound : 10
I play mainly blues, classic rock to hard rock, some oldies.I use a Marshall JCM 900,50 watt high-gain head and 4-12 1960A bottom and/or a '74 super-twin combo.Effects are a DOD stereo chorus,Ibanez Tube Screamer,Cry-baby wha.Can so far achieve a fairly wide variety of sounds from clean, complex tones to balls out, great sustain.Cuts though the mix when required or sounds great for rhythm work. The SD Blackbacks seem to be very responsive to picking technique, the harder you hit it the louder it gets.Nice stratish sounds in single coil positions and full, rich Les Paul/SG sounds in humbucking positions.Very versatile guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Set up from shop was excellent. Was still very much in tune right from the box!Very low fast action, effortless playability due in part to the compound radius fretboard. No buzzes found anywhere. The only flaw I could find is a minute "bleed thru"spot in the faux maple binding by where the body meets the neck on the upper bout, you have to get about 3"away and look super close to see it.All in all,the finish is nothing short of spectacular! When you open the case you can't help but stare at it in amazement.Construction is first rate, all hardware is top quality. This is a completely hand-built instrument by one man and is definitely "top of the line".I give this a 9.8 due to the near microscopic detail flaw.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar is very well made and as stated before, has high quality hardware.Like anything else, with the proper care this should last a lifetime.I never gig without a back up,a very foolish concept.Because I haven't had this guitar long I will give it a 9.

Customer Support : 10
Haven't had to contact either JET or World Class Guitars due to any problems.I did e-mail both to let them know how pleased I was with my JET guitar and also called Ed the day I got it to let him know that it arrived just as he said it would.Expertly packed, perfect shape. No warranty was implied at purchase, but I would be willing to bet if something were to go wrong,it would be handled in a proper manner.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for about 23 years.I have a '84 Les Paul,a'95 Strat and a'74 SG.I played a newer PRS and a couple McInturffs before buying this guitar, this guitar plays better than either of those plus sounds better.Actually I haven't touched any of my other guitars since i got my JET.If it were lost or stolen I'd be on the phone getting another one pronto.

JET guitars are hand made in North Carolina by luthier Jeffery Earle Terwilliger. The Earlewood model is a double cutaway, chambered solid body arch top. The guitar I bought has a 5 piece maple neck with ebony fingerboard, Korina body, 2 piece quilted maple top and maple binding on the neck.

Hardware options included are two Seymour Duncan Blackback pickups, a Tone Pros tune-o-matic bridge, passive electronics consisting of a master tone and volume with a 5-way selector switch (either neck or bridge humbucker, neck or bridge single coil or both pickups). The strings are routed through the body to a brass stop inlaid in the back of the guitar. There is an innovative jack plate that eliminates having to have a right angle bend after coming through the strap - see the website jetguitars.com for details - this is a very thoughtful feature. Tuners were schaller. Hardware was gold.

This guitar could be ordered with many other options (tremolo, different pickup configurations including piezos, etc). It came with a case and tool for adjusting the bridge.

Sound : 10
This guitar sounds great! When I first played it, I was kind of shocked; I expected it to sound good, but it exceeded my expectations with an fat, aggressive quality that belied its museum piece looks. The pickups are tonally well balanced, and the coil tap sounds are also full and useful. It has excellent sustain. The guitar is very responsive to picking - the harder you hit it, the more harmonic content you get. This guitar has wonderful headroom. Backing off the volume knob doesn't ruin the tone of the pickups either, unlike other guitars.

The coil tap sounds give the guitar a lot of sonic versatility - I'm a hard rock / metal player primarily, but this guitar could easily be used for any style. It sounded great even through the marginal solid state fender amplifier I tried it out on!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The fit and finish on this guitar is beautiful. The maple binding on the neck is beautiful to look at. The ebony fretboard is inlaid with waxing and waning moon inlays, which combined with the deep blue stain on the quited top give the guitar a kind of mystical appearance. The neck and rear body are stained with a reddish brown color that really brings out the wood grain, and is a beautiful counterpoint to the top. In addition, the sides of the maple top were masked off during the staining process so that the natural Maple shows through, providing a faux binding. The pickup "rings" are ebony, rather than plastic - see the website for how they look. I appreciate the lack of plastic on this guitar. One final nice touch is that the electronics cover and truss rod cover are made from korina and maple respectively, stained to match and recessed.

The action is low and fast. I had a little string buzz on the low E - but that's easily cured. No other complaints on the set-up. The neck has a nice compound radius, and is wide and thin - very comfortable for me.

Reliability/Durability : 9
The strap buttons are large and sturdy. The guitar is finished with a thick and highly durable clear coat, so I suspect it would wear very well. Its a well built guitar that I would have absolute confidence in. However, I've only recently acquired the guitar, so I'll give it a 9.

Customer Support : 9
I emailed Mr. Terwilliger with questions, and he responded immediately with a very courteous note. The folks at World Class Guitars were quite helpful as well, letting me try out dozens of guitars and ask lots of questions prior to choosing this one. However, they are really a mail order business, and aren't set up to have people come down and try out equipment. If you are considering buying from them, I would recommend doing the research on the web, asking questions over the phone, and ordering the guitar you want.

Overall Rating : 10
I own a '56 Les Paul custom (a fabulous guitar), and a Kramer Pacer (great neck, thin sound).

I compared this guitar to other models from small luthiers (Gledura, Baker, Jacobs, Jaros) and to some more mainstream guitars (PRS, Heritage, Parker, Gibson). For me, only the Jacobs and Gledura models came close. The Jacobs sounded nearly as good, but had a fatter neck, and I didn't like the styling as much - still that was an impressive guitar. The Gledura actually had a nicer neck for my taste, and similar fit and finish, but was less agressive sounding, and had a small body that I couldn't get as comfortable with.

I love the styling, neck profile and the fit and finish of the JET. Plus, it plays and sounds even better than it looks. I thought the price was very fair for a guitar of this quality. I'm absolutely delighted with this guitar.

This guitar was totally hand made by one guy with a real understanding of guitars. It is a visual work of art as well as a tool for hopefully creating audible works of art (that depends on me I guess). It's 24 frets, but the pickup is still in the sweet spot due to innovative design. It has a beautifully quilted maple top in a sunburst design. Mine has 1 tone and 1 volume with a 5 way switch, 2 "black back" pickups (seymour duncan ND). Korina wood body with tone chambers, tight set laminated maple neck flame maple neck binding, ebony fingerboard, waxing and waning moon inlays, matched quilted maple headstock and truss rod cover, single cutaway body, Tune o matic bridgestring through body, schaller tuners, all gold plated hardware. The list goes on and on.

Sound : 10
Huge variety of sound. Absoloutly amazing. Very full. I'm playing it through a Lustone "Mama Tone" push pull, pentode, cathode biased amplifier. The combination is so rich with harmonics and sweet tone that it is almost overwhelming. It truly saturates the air while playing rythem and launches blissfully skyward during solos. The nuances and variation are mind boggling. The neck contour is right on as is the fingerboard"s compound radius.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
When the guitar arrived at my house it was set up very well. I replaced the strings right away. The fit and finish is superb. Upon extremely close (practically microscopic) scrutiny you can tell the guitar was hand made. Extreme care was taken in every aspect of it's construction. Jeff's guitars have quality oozing out of every molecule. I would take it any day over some CNC machined, mass produced by some profit driven company.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I would say A+. Rock solid top of the line.

Customer Support : 9
I bought it from Ed Roman. It seems like a lot of people think he is a dick. He treated me fairly. His staff was very helpfull and very down to earth. They seem to know more about the guitars than Ed (sorry Ed). "incredibly kind and helpfull" goes a bit too far.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 10 years. I have an old (pre 1990) G&L asat and a Martin HD-28. I have a Fender Deluxe and the Lustone "Mama tone". I have a bunch of pedals that I don't use anymore because I bought the Mama Tone. I'd buy the Jet again in a heartbeat. My G&L is a trusty girl, but the Jet is a real supermodel. I compared the Jet to Gary Jacobs, BC Rich custom shop, Heritage, PRS, and a whole bunch of others. It boiled down to the tone. The tone is outstanding. Not knowing otherwise, I would think the fit, finish, innovation and craftsmanship was a pure manifestation of the tone. Hip Hip Hooray!

2001 JET Earlewood (Serial Number 047)
Made by a single craftsman -Jeffrey Earle Terwilliger in his North Carolina USA shop.
The style of the guitar is somewhat in a Les Paul tradition (although that is a stretch). It is a single cutaway. This guitar has many unique features that can?t be found on any other guitar due to JET?s original innovations. The guitar features a Brass 24th fret that is screwed into the neck. This allows the neck pickup to be placed in the correct harmonic node. This solves the traditional problem of 24 fret guitars sounding too thin in the neck position.
The only plastic on this guitar is the pickup bobbins.
The body is made of White Korina and features hand carved, tuned tone chambers. The top on this guitar is a 2 piece ultra high grade Birdseye Maple that is radiused via hand carving. The finish is called Sunset Burst and can be best described as extremely beautiful, intense bursting flames. The neck is 3 piece maple with a flame maple center piece. The neck is radiused via hand carving. The fretboard is Ebony with a Waxing to Waning Moon inlays. The entire neck is bound in highly flamed maple. The only other manufacturer to feature this amazing option is McNaught. In addition, the headstock has matching Birdseye Maple burst finish top. The headstock features amazing Pearl and Ebony inlays and has a matching recessed truss rod cover.
The guitar body and neck (minus the wood binding) is stained in a beautiful transparent red color. The guitar also features matching recessed wood cavity covers and Ebony Pickup trim. The entire guitar is finished in Polyester which is more durable than nitrocellulose and much more time consuming to buff. This gives the finish mirror-like qualities.

The guitar features string through body construction with an Ebony string guide and Tone Pros Tune-O-Matic style bridge. The tuners are Schaller. All hardware is gold plated. The neck scale is 25?. The nut is graphite. Pickups are Seymour Duncan non-disclosure Blackbacks (A matched pair). The Electronics, as most of the features on this guitar, are customer chosen. This model has Les Paul style control layout: 2 Volume, 2 Tone with a 3 way selector switch. The pots are push/pull to allow for switching between Humbucker and single coil configurations. The capacitor values in the electronics allow for super nice vowel like wha tones. The gold jack plate is mounted at an angle and reversed. This is another cool innovation that you will really appreciate. A hard shell case is included.

Sound : 10
I play Rock & Blues primarily. This guitar is extremely versatile in the sound department. I would say that Les Paul, PRS, ES 335, Tele and many more sounds are possible. I have used this guitar with a Marshall 1968 50 watt Plexi, a 1963 Fender Vibroverb, 1963 Blonde Fender Bassman, 1963 Blonde Fender Bandmaster, a Digitech 2112 and a Line 6 POD. The guitar sounds exceptional through all with the exception of the Digitech (who cares I guess?). I really like the warm, diverse tones that are possible with this guitar. I do wish that some Strat-like sounds were more possible. I have never really encountered another guitar that nails the Strat sound accurately.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The guitar was perfectly set up straight from the builder. The action was perfect (no kidding!) and there was not a dead spot anywhere on the neck. The pickups are direct mounted on this instrument and the bridge pickup was loose (had a stripped screw). After contacting the builder it was promptly corrected and I can honestly say that the pickups are now perfectly adjusted. No finish flaws or other construction shortcomings to speak of though with 1 exception: The jack plate very slightly overextends the body at 1 place. The jack plate, at that point, has its edge slightly exposed. This is really nitpicking but I thought I'd mention it. This is a completely handmade instrument so take that for what it is worth. The finish is so captivating that sometimes I find myself just staring at it for long periods of time and asking myself "How the hell is that even possible?". I cannot say enough about the construction quality. The whole guitar is truly top shelf. It is unspeakably beautiful. I'd like to mark off slightly for the negatives that I have mentioned but there is no 9.5 rating so I guess I will give it a 9 although most aspects deserve a 10+

Reliability/Durability : 10
All aspects of this guitar are of the highest quality. I have every reason to believe that the guitar will last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance. I have mentioned the quality of the hardware and finish already so I can skip over most of that. One other note: Strap buttons are designed so that strap locks are not necessary. The builder also uses clear polyurethane washers instead of cheaper felt ones that wear down. I would use this guitar on a gig without a backup. It is totally dependable.

Customer Support : 10
Like I stated previously, I did have a problem with the direct mounted bridge pickup. From the factory, one of the screws was stripped so the pickup was loose. I contacted Jeffery via email and received a friendly, professional response in less than 7 hours! He assured me that if I sent the guitar back that he would repair it and have it back to me in less than 2 weeks. He totally made good on that statement. I shipped the guitar back to him and received an email from him the same day that he received it. The next day he sent another email stating that the repair wa completed and that he had sent the guitar back to me. Communication was excellent and the repair was expertly performed. Jeffrey is a perfectionist and was concerned that there even was a problem. All is well now. Although there was no statement made about a warranty at any point during the purchase process or documentation to indicate that there was a warranty, I suspect that all reasonable claims will be handled in the most fair and professional manner.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 19 years and this is the finest guitar that I have ever owned or even played for that matter. I have played a couple of McNaughts and I think that this is definitely in the same league. My other electric guitars are a 1993 PRS Custom 24, 1969 Les Paul Custom and a 40th Anniversary Stratocaster. This guitar pretty much disgraces all of them. In fact, I really don't play the others too much anymore. If the guitar was lost or stolen it would be a high priority to replace it. I chose this guitar because of the fanastic playability and sound plus the unbeatable looks and craftsmanship. I have owned this guitar for 3.5 months so this is not a new product high kinda review. This is about as good as it gets folks.

This is a '99 Jeffrey Earle Terwilliger (JET) handmade guitar slightly in the Les Paul vein, though that's stretching it a bit. Jeffrey Earle T is high-end specialty boutique in Raleigh, NC, USA (www.jetguitars.com). It features a mastergrade mahogany body, capped with a gorgeous quilted maple top in a sort of green/blueburst that is gently arched. It is a set neck with a three piece maple neck that is bound in flame maple. The headstock is capped with quilted maple as well, and features a recessed truss cover in the same wood. "JET" is inlayed in pearl. Large gold Shaller tuners are installed. The fretboard is ebony with a beautiful waxing/waning moon design in pearl and purpleheart. Pickups are Seymour Duncan Jazz and JB, with separate gold, recessed tone and volume controls for each. Pickup switching is via a 3-way switch located in the traditional LP position. The guitar has a tune-a-matic type bridge with an ebony tailpiece at the string-through holes. Ferrules are recessed at the back, as are the control cavity covers which are created from matching mahogany. The input jack is unusually placed in a contour on the bottom back of the guitar. All hardware is gold. The overall look of the guitar is stunning and beautiful. It came with a good TKL hardshell case.

Sound : 9
I play a wide gamut of styles and I find the JET has a full, resonant sound. The pickups provide a very nice range of tones, whether clean and deep (the SD Jazz) or screamin' harmonics (the SD JB, of course). I usually play through a Carvin Quad X (4 channel) tube preamp/Carvin 100w tube amp setup, which gives me pretty much any type of sound I want from clean to heavy distortion. I also use a host of other amps from a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, Blues Jr., Rocket Tube amp, etc. The JET sounds great through them all, but best through the Carvin. Possibly that's just my own predilection. My comparison guitars include a Jaros Custom Carved Top, Parker Fly Classic, Steinberger GS7TA, LP Custom, American Deluxe Strat and Tele, Tele Prosonic, G&L ASAT Deluxe, Chandler Metro, Chandler Telepathic, a smattering of other tele types, and a '67 Guild T100-D to name a few. The JET provides a very rich, complex sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Setup was near perfect. This guitar did not come straight from the factory, it was pre-owned for a short time. I only needed to adjust intonation on the A string and raise the treble side of the bridge slightly to correct a small fret-out problem that occurred on whole-note string bending. It took me about 3 minutes. Outside of that, it plays beautifully and feels like an old friend. The workmanship is really, really good. I got the sense that a lot of thought and caring went into the making of this guitar. The action is relatively low, the way I prefer it, and the neck plays fast and comfortably. The top is expertly bookmatched and finished. The only niggle I can state is that I think they could have been a tad more exact on the way the faux binding effect is achieved. It is actually part of the quily top left unstained. It's a pleasing and attractive effect in general, but I'm trying to be as critical as possible here. Overall, the guitar is a very fine example of creativity combined with craftsmanship, and very distinctive in many ways.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I have very little playing time on this guitar so far. The guitar appears to be very solid and well- made. The hardware is all top-notch, so I'm not expecting any problems. Those beefy tuners really feel substantial and reliable. As with the Jaros I reviewed here (which I can't say enough good things about), I would be entirely confident without a backup (but wouldn't necessarily recommend that as a concept anyway).

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have no experience with JET directly, although I did correspond with Mr. Terwilliger via email. He seemed very interested in my reactions to his guitar, and gave me the impression that he would provide whatever assistance I might need. Since I bought it secondhand, however, I'm not expecting any warranty coverage, although I really don't anticipate any major problems with a guitar made this well.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for 27 years, and own a bunch of gear and about 20 guitars. The JET is a stellar addition to my little collection, and I'm suitably impressed. It was expensive by my standards, an I anticipate enjoying it for years to come. If it were stolen or lost, I would definitely want to replace it with the insurance money. This is a special, distinct guitar that is worth owning. It's a conversation piece because of its uniqueness and beauty, but more important, it is a fine instrument that is very rewarding to play.
