Bought brand new in 1999 for 800 beer tokens. Is in a dark metallic red (think Dave Murray's red Jackson strat) and came with a hard case.

Sound : 8
Has a great sound and the single coil has a very versatile sound. I am very rock/metal orientated and found the Jackson pick ups to be very good though I wasn't too impressed with the bridge one so changed it for a Dimarzio Fred which suits the ATX perfectly.

The neck pick up has a good bassy sound adding to the range of sounds you can muster from this guitar. All of the pick ups sound great on a clean (acoustic) setting and sound so good I haven't seen the need to get an acoustic.

Very well build bit of kit with no issues. Still going strong nine years on!

Reliability/Durability : 10
Great bit of faultless kit which has lasted very well and I expect to have it in great condition in many years. The laquer is still in tip top condition and with regular application of lemon oil to the rosewood fingerboard all is well here.

I can fully depend on the ATX and whilst I could use it for one gig I would have a back up (you'd be stupid not to for whatever guitar you have).

Will this guitar withstand live playing? Absolutely and then some!!!

Of all my guitars this is my baby and with the addition of the Fred to the bridge position I have all the guitar I could ever want (apart from another one). I love the wide neck with chunky Jackson frets with low action. All this means it is an ideal shred guitar which is very easy to play. It's not too heavy and has a beautiful sound and that arch top makes it stand out. The Jackson shark fin inlays look the business and black hard wear set the guitar off nicely.

Being the dinky body it is ideal for the smaller guitarist. Having had previous Jacksons (PS1 and 3) this was worlds apart and really puts them and similar guitars to shame. It is right up there with the Ibanez RG series and is very similar to this model.

Not sure what year but I think she was made in 2001. Made in Japan. 24 jumbo frets with pearly shark fin inlays. She has an ultra thin maple neck with a rose wood fret board and I'm not sure about the body. She has an arch top with dark purple transperant face and solid purple finish on the back. She has a superstrat type shape with slick cut aways. Yum. One tone and one volume knob and a five way selector switch. The stock passive jackson pick ups are in H/S/H config. Floyd rose licensed floating tremlo with Jackson written on it. Locking nut with great jackson tuning keys. All black hardware. I didn't get a case at 1st so the store through one in for me. Has all the fetures I wanted but they aren't the best.

Sound : 8
I play originals and record my music. My style is from hard rock to soft metal to easy listening sort of. I realy dont know what style but they are the closest.

The pick ups are nice and sound pretty good. No noise on any settings.
The bridge Pick up lacks a bit of middle but that's the way I love it. The out put is pretty high. I have to turn down the volume knob on the guitar for clean sounds if the amp gain is too high. The middle pick up is good for that middle sound I don't like but very quiet compared to the humbuckers. The neck pick up suits me fine for clean tones. Very warm and full but I have to watch the gain so that I don't have it over drive if I play the strings too hard.
I will get some new pick ups later but these will do fine for now.

My amp is a 75w Pro combo made by Jade sound systems. CRAP realy but does the job. I could use it on a small stage and it would do OK.
I have a original Crybaby wah pedal and the ATX roars well through it.
Once I have my Boss GT3 or Boss GT6 I will be happy.

E.M.G's Rule with sound quality. I don't like the idea of changing batteries though so I think I will go with DiMarzio Pick ups later.

Everything on this guitar was set up great. Since I'm so fussy I adjusted the bridge pick up up about .5 of a mil. I found that the lead socket come loose so I tightend it and the Volume knob as well. The interior cavities are smooth with no flaws. I've worn the paint on the top screw of the bridge position pick up off after about 2 months. I don't realy care. The only thing that anoyed me was that I found marks on my frets from the 9th fret 2nd string to the 12th fret 1st string. They look like the frets were hit with a chisle. They don't effect my vibrato's enough for me to worry about it though.

The action is fantastic. Not the best. The strings that were on her were shocking. Near on scary. I was nearly worried about tetness {;O)

I've played a $4500 Aus customized Ibanez and thats what I'm comparing it too. I've never found a better guitar then that one. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Yummmmm.

This guitar holds her tune very well. I've thrashed the tremlo bar to the max and done 2 and a ? step bends and then gone to tune her and to my suprise she didn't need it. I'm sure she will last a while but I've only had her for about 2 months. Duco looks like it's pretty thick and wont ware out in a hurry. Strap buttons are sturdy from what I can tell.

!!!Never use a floating tremlo guitar on stage with out a back up. If a string brakes the guitar becomes useless.!!!

Wouldn't know.

I started on the guitar about 1990 and started with music about 1980 at the age of 5.

This guitar will easily do for my next Album. I find it does everything I want it to do and more. Changing strings sucks but thats what I get for wanting a floating tremlo. If you play metal or hardish rock or stuff like that and want savage tremlo use and want to look cool playing and don't have heaps of cash, The ATX is a great buy. If you have heaps of money and can buy any guitar then find somthing better.

If I had to get a new one I would get a more expensive Guitar if I could afford it. If i couldn't afford a more expensive one I would get another ATX but it wouldn't be the same.

I new exactly what I needed and wanted in a guitar and studied up on the net for ages about what one to get. I was thinking the DK2 but I couldn't get it here in Australia so I got in the Jackson guitars forum and asked others. One of them showed me a picture of an ATX. I'm glad I got the ATX insted.

I'm extremly fussy with music and I know how good the best is. I compare everything to that standard.

My ATX isn't the best but for value for money she's great.
I love my ATX.

1998 Superstrat, made in Japan, although the build quality is of an exceptionally high standard - could be USA made. 24 Frets on a Jackson speed neck, H-S-H pickups (Jackson's own pickups, but *not* the cheap ones from the Performer series), licenced Floyd Rose double locking trem, black hardware, 5 way selector switch, one volume/one tone and sharkfin inlays. Jackson case included.

Sound : 9
I play mostly rock and metal (Def Leppard/Metallica), but sometimes play blues and softer rock too. This guitar is perfect for all these styles: the sound clean is sweet, and distored the humbuckers drive out just as much power as any Duncan pickups I've used.
I use a Crate/Marshall stack with a Korg AX1000G, although used just with a single stomp box for distortion is just as versatile. I personally would have liked an extra tone pot for the bridge pickup end, as one controlling all pickups restricts quick tone changes. Also, because of the 24 fret neck, the pickups are very close together, giving a 'nasal' type sound, although you only notice this after playing a S-S-S strat forever.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I had the guitar set up @ the shop I bought it, so I can't comment on factory set-up. My set up had the lowest action you could ask for, and still no fret buzz or loss of sound. The finish is just spectacular: a silky-type effect on a deep purple colour. I love it, and whereever I use it people comment one the paint job.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've been using this guitar for live playing for just over 2 years now and it has never failed to impress me. The hardware seems just as new as when I first got the guitar. The strap buttons are very solid (they're the larger type) and I have never needed to call on a backup while using this guitar.

Never needed it

I've tried loads of other guitars, and this is always the nicest to play. If it was stolen I would be devastated, because it appears to have been discontinued now. I don't think you could match the paint job on it. In terms of value for money, it was cheaper than similar spec Ibanez and ESP guitars, but in my opinion is far better.

Made in Japan in 1998, 24 frets, 5 way selector, H-S-H pickup config (All Jackson pickups), Shape is a more rounded Performer series kind of shape..way cooler than the Performers :-) Licensed floyd-rose bridge, locking jackson tuners, Jumbo frets (24), very cool fast neck.

Sound : 10
I play pretty much only Metal music and this guitar suits me perfect! It is great for Metallica style music and can get a wide variety of sounds and is GREAT for harmonics! I play it through a Marshal Valvestate 8080 amp which sounds great when played loud in practice rooms at school!!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar was set-up perfectly when I brought it with perfect action and picup setup. However, It took a day of playing hard with the wah-bar to get the floyd rose to settle down so It would stay in tune but now I've done that it stays in tune perfectly and I haven't had to tune it for the last 3 weeks....The only flaw in the setup was the wah-bar was a bit loose so u had to push it down a long way but I tightened the springs in the back and now it's just great!
Overall a GREAT setup.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Only had the guitar 3 weeks but it seems like It will last a life time...Hard case was included which is handy as I take it to school and back everyday! Overall it looks a well built guitar and I feel confident in playing it heavily and nothing falling off in my hands :-)

Never needed it.

OVERALL: I LOVE THIS GUITAR!! It's the best guitar I own by a long way and has a great look to match it's great sound! If this guitar gets stolen I would buy the same one anyday...The guitar cost me #500 but In my opinion it plays and looks like it's worth more...My brother could believe it only cost #500 when I told him after he had played it!
A GREAT GUITAR!

I think it's 1998 model but there's no mention of it on the website. Maybe a UK specific? Anyway, superstrat shape, with a more curved body than the Dinky series. Maple body, Maple neck with rosewood fingerboard and sharkstooth inlays. Locking Jackson tuners. Floyd-rose licensed bridge. All black hardware. HSH pickup configuration with Jackson pickups. Deep red colour with satin finish. The neck is ultra thin with good spacing between strings. And dont forget those lovely inlays!

Sound : 10
I like a lot of rock, like Therapy, Smashing Pumpkins, Metallica and Green Day. Suits that style right down to the ground. I specifically wanted an HSH configured guitar to get that rocky sound, also because of the lack of noise. There is no noise from the hums and only a very tiny amount when mixed in with the single. Very quiet when switching between pickups. Even though it's a rocky guitar you still get a lovely warm clean sound from it. I was hoping for some Duncan Designed pickups like on the DK2 but found these were actually better. They are NOT the same as the stock pickups on the Cheaper performer series.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
No idea on factory set up as the shop did it for me, though I have heard that Jackson standard really sucks. The paint job is absolutely out of this world. The guy in the shop had visited numerous factories and said that Jackson had the best paint shop in the world. I think he's right.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Excellent finish, will last. Solid strap buttons. Never gig without a backup.

Not dealt with support. Would always go through the shop I bought it from.

I have a Pacifica 112, Zoom 505 and Marshall VS100. The Zoom is now in the bin as the range of quality sound I'm getting from this and the Marshall can only be ruined by using the Zoom. The Pacifica is widely touted as being good with an awesome neck, this has an even better neck.
I compared this to the Jackson DK2, the Ibanez RG507 and RG550LTD as well as the ESP M-250. Ibanez's were about the same sound but damn ugly. The DK2 is the same but with Duncan pickups SSH, only the body is flat rather than contoured. ESPs are not quite as good and hard to get hold of.
This is a great guitar for the price, I intend to keep it forever, putting EMGs in later possibly. If stolen I would buy another one, as long as the insurance company paid up!
