I got the black finish, which was $300 less than the desert camo finish. I hadn't had any experience with Jackson guitars, but knew this was an import from Japan. I'm not a fan of the bolt on neck, it's rather flimsy and the plate used is plastic. It comes equipped with a single active EMG 81, which is really all you need. 24 frets with a reversed headstock give you a nice instrument to detune. Mohagony body and neck give you quiet possibly the lightest guitar ever. The Carved top is pretty cool too.

Sound : 7
I play in a metal band so an instrument like this is crucial to my sound. I own several guitars equipped with EMG 81 pickups, but for some reason, this guitar sounds brighter than my others.

I had this set up for drop C tuning and it really had a nice crushing sound to it. The black finish on it actually got a complement from a High End auto body specialist who deals with Ferrari's and Porche's, that's got to say something. I have had one problem with the finish when I accedentally dropped my wireless reciever on it, it left a pretty big gash in the side of the body that revealed the finish doesn't go to deep.

Reliability/Durability : 3
I've played this Guitar live twice, and both times I used it, it fell out of tune a hair. The bridge paint has begun to chip away with the string changes, but I will say one thing that Jackson got right, the strap buttons, every other guitar I own, I've had to replace them, but not here. Unfortunately, due to the tuning Issue, I have decided to no longer gig this guitar.

Customer Support : 10
While it wasn't Jackson customer support I had to deal with, the first model that shipped to me was snapped at the body joint where the neck bolts on. The people at the dealership were understanding and sent me the model I currently own.

Overall Rating : 6
I've been playing this guitar for a year now. The only regret that i have is that I hadn't researched to see if it was a neck thru or a set neck. If it was a neck thru or a set neck, and had less plastic hardware, this would be the ultimate guitar.

Mahogany body, bolt-on mahogany neck, ebony fretboard with no inlays, single EMG 81 pickup with quick change battery compartment, one volume know

24 extra jumbo frets, 25.5" scale, fixed bridge, mine is gloss black and it is a decent finish. The camo finish is amazing but costs about $300cdn extra.

It suits my style amazingly well. Unfortunately, it is not a very flexible guitar. It only has one EMG 81 pickup in the bridge, with no tone knob. There is no neck pickup at all. Playing through a Mesa Dual Rectifier, it works GREAT for metal, because its got this insane high gain searing sound. Pinch harmonics scream, palm mutes are like getting kicked in the nuts, and it has the great Jackson neck which is great for riffing on the low frets but still equally good for shredding.

That same setup that works so well for metal cannot do other things so well. Even if you back off the volume knob, it cannot do a good clean sound through the Dual Rectifier, probably because dual recs have a bad clean channel to start with and are unable to compensate for the EMG 81's super bright clean tone. Playing with a pick clean on this guitar is out of the question, you need to do fingerpicking to bring it under control. It will not a good jazz sound. It can do good crunch sounds and blues low gain sounds if you back off on the volume.

The guitar was brilliant adjusted. The action is perfect, it plays fast at all places on the neck. Its easy to fret, the neck is super fast, it is finished so well you can slide all over the place in no time at all. The pickup is adjusted well but isn't angled very much, but the guitar still sounds good.

Reliability/Durability : 8
As far as flaws goes, the volume knob fell off the first day I had it because the set screw wasn't tight enough. Then I put it back on, but the pot is in the guitar crooked so it has scratched the paint underneath it. Also, the clear on the guitar is very thin and not very durable so it already has some serious swirl marks in it and I've only had it for about three months.

Other then that, it is perfect. You'd have to be nuts to play a gig without a backup, but I would feel more confident with this guitar then most.

No comment, haven't had any experience with this

I've been playing for about nine years. My primary setup is this Jackson, playing through a Mesa Dual Rectifier into a Mesa Recto 2x12 cabinet. Other guitars I have are a Dean Avalanche 7 string and a ESP Viper. The Viper is probably going to end up replacing my COW as my primary axe since it is more versatile, but doesn't play quite as well as this one.

I love the look of it - all black with no inlays - and I usually love how stripped down it is, with no bells and whistles at all. It is a total player's guitar and I really enjoy it for that. It feels amazing and sounds great, but at other times I really can't stand that because the guitar isn't versatile enough. I really miss having a neck pickup sometimes, and that is why I got the Viper.

I would buy another Jackson, but it would probably be the Christian Olde Wolbers 7 string version of this guitar.

I wish it had a neck pickup and a more durable finish.

My guitar was made in 2005 in Japan, probably by the same factory that makes Japanese Fenders. It has a mahogany carved top body with a bolt on mahogany neck. The neck heel is recessed to make upper fret work easier. The neck is wide and very thick, like a bass guitar and the frets are very large as well. Super jumbo is a good term. The reverse headstock looks killer, makes this guitar look like a weapon. It has an ebony fretboard with no inlays as well.
It has a single EMG 81 and one volume knob. It has a pop out battery compartment so you can change the battery quickly and with no tools, very cool.

This guitar sounds incredible. Usually I am not a fan of EMG's, ive had them on a few guitars and wasnt too impressed with them tonally. On this guitar they sound great. Very lively, not sterile at all but robust. Im using this with a Peavey 6505+ stack and i can get the most brutal searing gain sound imaginable with this guitar. Palm mutes are thick and punchy and pinch harmonics are a cinch to get anywhere on the fretboard. The cleans are good, even though i dont really go for the tone of a bridge humbucker clean.
I thought feedback would be a problem with this guitar and the amp i have, actually i was very suprised to find that i get very little unwanted feedback.

Awesome, this thing is perfect in regard to playability and construction. All the frets are properly seated, crowned and perfectly level. The neck pocket dosent have any gap whatsoever, very tight joint. The action stunk when i got it, but thats not the fault of Jackson its the stores responsibility to adjust that. It would be better if it has a graphite nut, but thats fairly minor to me.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Ive only had it for a week. It is however very well made, and was built with good solid materials and a very good design. I dont forsee any problems.

Never dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 10
I bought this guitar because of its utter simplicity. It has all of the featuers i need and none of the other feaures that distract me when im playing. Its made to do one thing and it does that perfectly.

I also bought it because it was a well built and well excecuted design. The pop out battery compartment, big wide thick neck and extra large fretwire were both features i wanted to see on a guitar but havent. This thing plays like a dream, solos are a breeze. And because of its light weight (5-6 lbs) and thick neck it dosent fatuige me as much as the other guitars ive owned.

Also this thing is asthetically intimidating. From its all black paintjob, hardware and fretboard to that big ol' reverse hook-sombody-in-the-jibs headstock, it looks like a weapon. Makes you want to rock harder, play faster and be meaner onstage.
