The Jazz/JB pickup combination has had a reputation for being very versatile and I agree. It suits my jazz and metal tastes.

From the factory, it was okay, I kind of expected that. After setting up the guitar (changing strings, action, etc.) it played like a dream. No flaws what so ever.

This guitar feels very well built, I can see myself using this guitar for sometime. Strap buttons are solid. Even though this guitar is durable, it's always safe to carry a back-up just in case.

Playing for 6 years. I really wish the trem. was an original floyd rose, but the licensed one holds up very well (I wouldn't do anything crazy on it.) If it were stolen I would buy it again, pretty sweet guitar. I love this guitar and recommend it to anyone needing a sweet guitar at a decent price.

Sounds good. Could use some coil spliting for versatility, but then again, you have the dk2, dk2s... It rocks and cuts thru
Action, Fit, & Finish

I was willing to accept poor factory setup, mid-level components prone to wear which also made it hard to determine the build quality. After setup I found out the thing had a twisted neck. Low action is impossible. Worse then a 20 years old Ibanez I sold before buying this.

DK2M Maple neck 24 frets and transparent black finish for the body. Jackson tremolo under FR licence.
2 Seymour Duncan passive Hambuckers, 1 tone and 1 volume knob.
The transparent black finish as well as the maple fingerboard with black inlays are a real success at first sight.
Sound
:7
The sound (clean and distorted) is quite good but when lowering the volume I started to hear frightening noises from the body... and there start the problems !
Action, Fit, & Finish
:1
Action was set up correctly, the equilibrium of the instrument when hold with straps was friendly and so was the contact with the neck. But as I mentioned below, there was frightening noises coming from the locking bridge each time I used the tremolo intensively (not quick or violent movements but deep dive bombings). In fact the locking brige was not bolt on tight with the neck that's why it moved a little bit provoking this 'tac-tac' sound. I tried to screw the two screws tighter but the screws are made with a so soft material that it started tearing appart. I managed to set tighter one screw and this flaw disappeared for, say, 10 dive bombings and thean appeared again. In addition to this, the locking nuts are made with this same very bad metal and stated to tear appart as weel (I had to replace one of them with a spare one I had)
Reliability/Durability
:1
See the 'Action, Fit Finish' tab above.
In addition to this locking bridge flaw, I could hear the truss rod scrape like a mast of a boat during a storm.
Clearly the worse guitar I've ever played with. I don't know how come as the neck and the tranparent black body were such a success.
For your information I am dealing with the vendor for a cancellation of my order (I bought it on a German internet shop)

Everybody's already listed these specs, I'm sure, and as the guitar is still in production, it would be fairly easy to get very detailed information from the manufacturer. I hesitate to call the features 'basic,' because that implies a negative connotation. 'Standard' features for this type of guitar.
Sound
:7
I play this guitar in mainly a hard rock/metal setting, through a Boss ME-50 into a Carvin MTS head, BBE sonic maximizer, and matching Carvin cab, although I substitute a Peavey Classic 20 - immensely underrated - for smaller settings and practice.
The Seymour Duncan JB humbucker in the bridge is fairly versatile, with a decent midrange push, although it's not quite as aggressive and crisp as I might like.
The SD Jazz in the neck is not really my favorite for this guitar. For high-gain solos, it sounds fairly wimpy to my ear - a little too much bass, not enough mids. Still, the sound is usable, and certainly not 'bad.'
I don't use the middle position a whole lot. With the volume knob rolled back, it provides kind of a nice in-between sound with a little bit of single coil vibe. With decent crunch, though, this position lacks the snap and jangle of, say, the John Petrucci Music Man's middle position.
That said, these sounds are very usable for rock, hard rock, and classic metal (not sure it would be my choice for the mid-scoopers), and the pickups are not so hot that you need to reset your amp levels when changing guitars.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:No Opinion
Before I bought this particular guitar, I played a few different DK2Ms, and noticed a marked difference between different guitars of the same model. This could just be a set-up issue, as these guitars were in a couple of different stores, but I would suggest - if given the opportunity - that anyone looking to purchase a DK2M try out a couple different guitars in person.
That said, this guitar is a beauty. I got the Inferno Red model, and it SCREAMS 1980s - which may or may not be a good thing for you. Kind of reminds me of Steve Vai's Charvel in "Crossroads." Finish is great, with no flaws. Maple fretboard is nice and smooth.
The action on my DK2M - after I spent some time setting it up - is scary low.
Reliability/Durability

I've gigged with this guitar multiple times, and it has never let me down. I wouldn't gig without a backup because (a.) I play in several tunings, and (b.) if the Floyd trem breaks a string, you're looking at a 30-minute string change.
The guitar stays in tune very well through several trips through "Satch Boogie."
After almost two years of continuous use, the black paint is wearing off on some of the hardware. Also, the whammy bar, which can be tightened into a fixed position, will wriggle loose after two or three dive bombs. My last guitar with a Floyd trem was several years ago, and I can't remember if I had this problem with that guitar, too.

Never had to deal with Jackson . . . I'd just be guessing on this.

I really, really like this guitar. I play a lot of rock and metal, just now beginning to get into more advanced stuff, and this guitar keeps up with me. I have several guitars - Heritage, Washburn, Ibanez, and a couple off-brands - and this is my go-to 'sports car guitar.' It's not perfect, and I wonder if all DK2Ms are this nice, but I think you'd have trouble beating this guitar for under a grand - IF you're looking for an over-the-top 80s shred guitar. If that's your thing, then I would totally recommend this guitar.

Features include Alder body, bolt-on maple neck, compound radius maple fingerboard, Seymour Duncan Jazz humbucking pickup in the neck and JB humbucking pickup at the bridge, Jackson low-profile double-locking tremolo and black hardware. Three way pickup switch with a tone knob and a volume knob. Mine is Snow White and looks great.
Sound

This is a very, very versatile guitar, I get some really wonderful clean tones out of both pickups but especially the Jazz in the neck. I use both a Boss DS-2 distortion pedal and a old school DOD 250 Overdirve, and with the pickups I get great rock tones, from classic rock to modern, excellent blues tones, I don't do new metal so I can't speak for that though. It is a really nice sounding guitar.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Over all I would have to say the build is very good, however you will have to set this guitar up. That means you set:
Pickup hight
truss rod
intonation,
and the Floyd.
You really need to look on youtube and see how to set up a Floyd Rose, because if you do not you will never get these to stay in tune. Basically the string tension has to equal the spring tension, you have to adjust the springs till the bridge base is perfectly flat, then you tune it, otherwise you are asking for trouble.
Mine holds tune very well.
My only other grip is tha the paint is a little sloppy at some of the seams, but not bad.

I've been playing for 14 years, Ibanez and a variety of Fender Stats. I've had this guitar for about three months. I really like it because of its versatility, its looks, and its feel. It's lightweight and has a very comfortable body shape. I like the neck to, but some may not, the fret board is pretty wide, wider then any other guitar that I have played. The neck thickness is between thin and medium, and I really like the compound radius of the finger board. It is a great neck for me, and with the combination of pickups, good looks and features it is a hard guitar to beat for under $700.

This perfect for what I play. Hard rock, rock, blues rock, blues, 80's Metal and classic rock.
I'm playing through a Peavey Classic 50 212 with a mesa boogie 212 ext. cab. Little to zero noise at any level. Has a great balance of rich tones. If it's too much I dial the tone knob...just like on any other guitar. I love the look and feel of this guitar. Nice snow white and awesome maple neck and fretboard.

Well I play mostly Thrash Metal ex. Metallica Megadeth Anthrax. But I do play classic rock and blues as well as 80's metal. I play through a Crate Vtx series amp and a Digitech Rp-150 Processor. The sound is great it is perfect for all of that no complaints. It is really quiet for having passive electronics and the pickups scream when in a high gain solo. The floyd rose tremelo really helps when playing leads too. It has a really trebley sound out of both pickups but its good treble you have to hear it to understand. Like I said great sound for everything Perfect for anyone.

Came a Little Low on the bass side was buzzing a little. Came a little high on the treble side. The pickups were were adjusted perfect. The guitar does have some flaws like binding is not smooth in some places or has gaps to the headstock in some places. The bridge pickup is a little misaligned and the inlays are painted on but other than that it sounds great plays great and is beutiful. Pickup alignment does not effect sound.

Plays great live overpowers my friends Ibanez with EMG's and is extremely reliable. The hardware is great look like it will last a long time. The finish is really thick like 2mm it looks like could withstand a beating. I have dropped on it back on the edge of a case from about 2 feet away and didnt even mark it. The strap buttons are strange looking but they are big and better than strap-locks in my opinion. Have gigged without a backup before held up great till i broke a string in the solo on master of puppets so i used one of my friends ibanez's. But gigs great would do it again.

I play mainly 80's metal and all affiliated styles, but im into a bit of anything really. this guitar, as it uses the same woods as fender strats but has the guts of humbuckers fits in any style well.
im using it with my Randall RX35DM but have played it through a large selection of valve amps in shops and its a good guitar.
its not noisy at all, even after ive modded it to hell with a new 0.047uf tone cap, a dimarzio breed neck pickup and installing a coil tap volume push pull that splits both humbuckers.
the sound is a little on the bright side, but that fits well with the lead guitar duties i use it for, the Duncan Jazz in the neck is brighter than i liked which is why it went so i could get some beefy rhythm tones out of it.
stock, the tonal pallette is bright, no doubt about it, this guitar is meant to sit at the top of a mix and your meant to be soloing all the way. this is a true lead guitar. if you want to be eddie van halen, yingwie malmsteen or paul gilbert look no further, defined top end with the option for some sweet tight lows aswell, muddy is far from this guitar.
i liked it all, the rating i give reflects its stock sound, but after my mods i give it 10, as i can't think of anything it cant do now.

Action, Fit, & Finish

the action was good, but a little high with the stock 10's on, but a change to 9's and with no adjustments to springs or bridge its now low and fast, with almost 5 tones up with the floyd on the g string.
the pickups matched well, but as ive said the jazz in the neck is a bit too bright for me, i would highly reccomend the Dimarzio breed neck, if you want the middy crunch of 80's metal.
all the cavities and sockets are well finished to a standard we can now expect from japanese made instruments, no problems at all with the finish anywhere.
Reliability/Durability
:10
this guitar has a nice thick finish on it and while ive yet to take it to the stage, ive knocked it about in my room and it lives, the only problem is the white will show dings and scrates up a lot, and if its dusty, it looks dirty. all buttons were solid, but ive installed strap lock buttons now on mine so i cant comment on their reliability, its an easy fix though. i can depend on this guitar as ive modded it and it has taken to all the mods easily, but gigging without a backup is plain stupid, as i found to my expense once.

I've been playing for seven years now and this is my first(non beginner) real guitar. I play it trough a Line 6 spider 3 (2X12") and it sounds good trough most of the effects.
If it was stolen I think I would go for something else, not that it's bad, but I would keep my money to buy a good used guitar of higher grade or a 7-string guitar.
When in the store, I was hesitating between this one and a PRS custom SE. I found this one as much more feature, but the floyd sometime annoys me has I can't drop D has I want.

Eerie Dess Swirl finish, Dinky strat Alder body with twin humbuckers featuring the Seymour Duncan TB-4 Jeff Beck in teh bridge position and SH-2 Jazz in the neck. Speaking of the neck, this guitar has a 25-1/2" scale maple fretboard with satin finish. 14" to 16" compound radius and matching headstock. The classic Jackson headstock comes with sealed tuners (probably Gotoh), Black binding, sharkfins and logo rounds out the neck features. The finish is the eye-catcher: I've not seen anything like it before, and that guitar called my name for 6 months before I broke down and brought it home.

Musically I like to play anything from Rock to metal with some chicken pickin' folk, blues and classical thrown in. This gutiar is a shredder by nature, but manages to get some good clean tones off the Jazz neck pickup. It tends to squeal just a hair at high gain settings, but it's fairly controllable. there's no option to tap the coils, so this guitar is sort of limited in what it does, but that's fine with me.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
The guitar came from the factory with the action so low, dust can't get under it! The neck pickup needed some adjustment to get things sounding good, but everything else is spot-on. The finish has no blemishes, and the case it comes in is nicer than what Fender sells with their own guitars.
Reliability/Durability
:10
Everything seems to be pretty solid. the guitar is smallish, due to it's 7/8th's body, but put together well. In the 80's, I wouldn't have considered an overseas gutiar, but this is a totally different story. I would never play out without a backup, but that's pretty universal for gutar players.

I've been playing for over 30 years now, and a lot of gear has passed through these gnarled hands. This is as good a player as I can think of ever having and the best thing about it was the price! If it were stolen, I would probably replace it, as it was on my list of axes to own. I love the colors of the finish, the quality pickups, the licensed Floyd trem seems to stay in tune just fine. I looked at several other guitars while deciding what to purchase, but always came back to this one because of it's eye-catching finish. I can't really think of anything else this guitar needs. It wouldn't be my choice for a first guitar as it lacks single coils and hence some versatility. If someone were looking for a great, affordable rocking axe, I would definitely recommend this one!

I ordered and bought this brand spaknkin' new almost one year ago and waited to post a review t avoid the joy of new gear syndrome. I paid a little extra for the Trans Black finish (flamed maple top). But the price included the Jackson HS case and delivery w/insurance. Geeze they just don't make guitar sales people anymore like the owner/operator I bought this from. Great price! I could go on and on about the features for a non-US made Jackson in this price range but I'll spare you. Bottom line is you will be very hard pressed to come close. This thing is loaded from the top down!

It already came stock with a lot of the features I have an affinity for to get a variety of sounds. I really like the SD Jazz pu in the neck. I was unsure of the JB4 in the bridge though. To my dismay I didn't care that much for it. It lacked some versatility (for me) but I didn't want to go w/the Seymour Distortion either. No biggie. I keep a good supply of pu's on hand. I ended up dropping in my (recent) most fav bridge pu - the Seymour Full Shred. It is a bit more articulate in my opinion with just enough punch. It pairs up great with the Jazz or the '59. I also wanted more tone variation that just with the 3 way switch. So out it came in favor of a 5 way. I can now get just about any sound I want from this puppy. Though I am currently resisting the urge to try a Dimebucker / '59 combo just to see how she rolls. All that aside, this guitar would satisfy most with its stock setup. Sound is a very personal and subjective from one pair of ears to another.
Action, Fit, & Finish

This thing plays like butter. I did drop the action some and lowered the pu's just a tad for my personal preference. My only "complaint" was a slightly out of position bridge saddle. The "D" string would not intonate. This is really a minor flaw and an easy enough fix.

So far not a single issue has reared it's ugly head on this guitar. It gets played on a regular basis and regularly alternated with my Jackson DX10D. I have (and have had) cheap beaters around for noodling but I can't seem to feel the love for anything else but the DK2M. So far it has proven to have beauty and brawn.

I've been playing for way too long not to be a lot better than I am. But that's not the point of me playing at all. I've done the bar and medium venue scene even recently. But it is not something I dream about. Point being, I have had my hands on a lot of gear and own a bunch still. I know quality and stuff that possesses the almighty Fun Factor. The DK2M is front row, center. It it were stolen, well, sorry about THEIR luck. I can't legally tell you what I'd do to the fool. I give an overall rating of 9 only because it will not play itself. It is by far my favorite guitar to play.

2006 Jackson DK2M with Snow White finish, Floyd Rose trem, 2 humbuckers (JB/Jazz), alder body, compound radius maple neck with black sharkfin inlays, black binding around neck and headstock. She's a looker. I just wish it came stock with a fixed bridge. I'm not much into trems, but I can get use to it.
A couple reviews I read said this is an 80's hair metal guitar, but I disagree. If it was some bright, neon color then yeah it would definitely be an 80's guitar, but all white is pretty neutral. This guitar can nail 80's metal, but it's very versatile and can nail any genre you like. I'd say this is an all-around guitar and it's for everyone, not just metalheads.

This thing sounds awesome. This is my first Jackson guitar and to be honest, I never cared for super-strats like Jackson or Ibanez. I've always played traditional guitars like Gibson or Fender, but after trying this out at my local music store, I couldn't put it down. The playability is amazing. Super low action for soloing and with the compound radius it's great for chording too. I play anything from classic rock to metal and this guitar covers it all. Nice rich and full tones. Not as muscially rich as a Les Paul, but it has it's own sound that can stand up to anything out there. I like the Seymour Duncan JB pickup, but I'm more of a Dimarzio guy and will probably put in a Super Distortion.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
Setup was perfect, which surprised me since it was hanging on the wall at the music store. I'm sure it was played a hundred times by every Joe Schmoe who walked in the store. Like I said, the action is super low in the upper register for soloing, but just right in the lower register for chording. The compound radius fretboard is a nice feature. The volume and tone pots aren't scratchy and grounding seems to be done right. There isn't a flaw I can see or hear.

I've been playing about 25 years. I'm into classic/hard rock, metal and even some punk rock. I've owned a lot of gear over the years and generally buy more traditional guitars like Gibson or Fender. This Jackson is a nice change from the norm. Overall, I've very happy with the playability, sound and looks of this Jackson. It caught my eye the moment I walked into the store and it proved to be an awesome guitar. The only thing I would change is the trem. If it had a fixed bridge, it would be perfect. Definitely a good buy. A+

I play, everything rock, alotta metal, metallica, van halen, nothing uber heavey. bit of a classical shredder. I'm playing this through a marshall avt50X and this thing sounds SWEET! perfect. the pickups: seymour duncan JB and 59 are perfectly suited to this guitar, every note rings out with clarity even with heaps of tube distortion.
PERFECT! sometime in the future i might swap the JB for a super distortion, but purely for experimental purposes!

This is the perfect 80's metal/rock guitar. Superstrat style body, glossy "snow" white finish, maple fretboard with black sharkfin inlays and binding(includes headstock), Seymour Duncan Jazz and JB humbuckers (neck and bridge, respectively), low profile double locking licensed Floyd Rose trem, 24 frets, (what appear to be) jumbo frets, one volume and one tone control, maple compound radius neck and alder body.
-25.5" scale.
-This is a new 2006 model, made in Japan.
-No case was included, nor were tools (luckily, I already have everything I need left over from my old Ibanez).
Sound
:8
My style is very varied, but I see myself mostly playing stuff in the realm of hard rock and metal (including Ozzy, Metallica, Def Leppard, Deep Purple, Steve Vai, Van Halen, etc.)
My main amp (my "band" amp) is a Peavey Classic 30 combo (going into a 4X12 cab), with a Bad Monkey overdrive pedal to push the amp, and a Boss CH-2 chorus for some extra effects- pretty minimalist.
My backup amp (my "practice/recording" is a "silver stripe" Peavey Bandit 112tt- I play this amp more than the Classic (which stays at the band's practice space), as I have more immediate access to it.
The sound of the guitar through both amps is pretty much what I was hoping for: very good sustain, nice and clear attack, harmonics that pretty much leap off the neck. Both pickups respond very well to high and low gain settings. Even at a low volume on my Bandit, I was getting some nice musical sustaining feedback! That was how I knew that I had got my money's worth.
I need to point out that I have only had the guitar for a day so far, but my first impressions, after about two hours of playing, are generally good....
....however, I have formed one negative impression of this guitar's tone: it strikes me as being geared towards hard rock and metal more than anything else. I put it on a clean tone, in all three pickup positions and with both amps...and to my slight disappointment, I could not get any sort of rich or "warm" tone. Clean, it sounds a bit on the weak side, lacking any kind of real midrange, at least to my ears. I should point out that I am used to mahogany and basswood-bodied guitars, so alder is new to me. Also, the pickup height has not been messed with yet, nor have the strings been changed. My opinion on this may change with time, and if so, I will update this review.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:6
The action is comfortable- not as low as some Jacksons I have seen, but still easy enough to pull off any solo I attempted on it. The pickups seem like they are at about the right height, at least for hard rock/metal stuff. Since the clean tones sound a bit weak, I may have to do some adjustments.
The finish is perfect and glossy. No chips, dings, etc.
The binding and inlays are made of some sort of plastic material, but the fit and finish in this regard is what I would expect for a Japanese Jackson: nearly perfect, and it ranks right up there with my Gibson SG Std.
So, why did I give this axe a 6?? The frets were poorly installed- it has sharp fret ends that actually OVERLAP the edge of the fretboard in some places. This is unacceptable for a guitar that cost $600 without a case, not to mention "built in Japan". I will be returning this guitar, and requesting that a new one be ordered for me. I like this guitar enough to give it another shot, but I won't accept sharp frets. Even my $99 OLP doesn't have this problem!

This appears to be a very solid, not to mention unique guitar for the money. I don't know of too many guitars that are in this price range that have real Seymour Duncan pickups and a bound maple fretboard/headstock.
I have been playing for about 15 years, and in no way is this my first axe. I also own/have owned Gibson, Ibanez, Kramer, Fender and ESP. The shoddy fretjob taints my image of Jackson, just a bit. If the store where I bought this exchanges it for a better one, the overall rating will increase, but as it is, I am slightly disappointed. It sounds excellent, especially for hard rock/metal (mainly why I bought it), plays comfortably, and looks amazing...so it definitely has some things going for it.

2006 Made in Japan, super-strat with alder body, maple neck, maple fretboard, and the "careful with that thing, you'll put someone's eye out" pointy Jackson headstock. Pure white paint job. Seymour Duncan JB/Jazz combo. Jackson Floyd trem. This thing screams '80s hair band all the way. Single volume, single tone control, 3-way pickup selector. Features are what they are for this type of axe.
Sound
:8
Sounds pretty good. The JB pickup balances fairly well with the alder body; the alder takes away a bit of the JB's midrange push. The Jazz in the neck is nice, but again I'm not sure that it's the ideal pickup for this guitar. I'd rather see a '59 in there, but that's just my taste. In any case, the sounds are very articulate from clean to high-gain through a Hughes&Kettner TriAx and a couple of Behringer modeling amps. Lots of good note definition. Harmonics are excellent. My plan is to take these pickups out and put them in another guitar. I have a Duncan Blues Saraceno model Parallel-Axis trembucker and a '59 ready to install. That's my tried-and-true pickup combo for alder bodied, bolt-neck guitars.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:8
Factory setup was good. Action is low, but not as low as I'd like. When I bring it down to 3/32", it starts to fret out a bit above the 12th fret. The fretwork is okay but not stellar, so I'll level the frets a bit when I'm dressing them. This should eliminate the buzzing. Fit and finish are excellent. Great construction; the neck sits very tight in the pocket. Neck profile is very wide and flat. While very comfortable, it doesn't seem to "fit" my hands as well as my Ibanez S and RG guitars. The only glitch with the guitar is that the locking nut didn't quite set properly in the slot on the neck. When using the tremolo, the nut would "rock" or shift ever so slightly, causing an audible "ping" when lowering pitch and again when returning to pitch. Sounded like a creaky floor or step through the amplifier, so obviously needed to be corrected. I removed the locking nut and squared the slot a bit. Problem solved, but not something you should have to do with a decent guitar.

Been playing for 23 years, own 18 guitars. Probably owned over 50 guitars total over the years. I started playing back in the '80s and learned to shred with the best of them. Even though I've come away from the gymnastics a bit and try to play with a bit more "feel", I still have a soft spot for a good super-strat. I bought this because of the alder body, maple fretboard, 2-humbucker combination. It's sort of a replacement for a Blues Saraceno model guitar I used to have that was stolen. Putting the "Blues Trembucker" and '59 pickups in will pretty much give me a perfect guitar for hard rock, great tone, and great playability.

This is a 2006 DK2M Dinky model from Jackson's Pro (Japan) line. It is similar in many ways to the old Dinky Pro models of the early `90s and is a variation of the DK2 Dinky. It is a new version of the Dinky, with the most obvious difference being a maple fretboard, black fretboard/headstock binding and black sharkfin inlays. The inlays are made of delrin, which is the same plastic material used on many picks. I generally prefer natural inlay material, but these look nice with the black binding and less tacky than fake pearl. My DK2M has a transparent black finish over a flamed maple veneer and alder body. The neck is maple, with a 25.5-inch scale length and 24 extra-jumbo frets.
The pickups are a Seymour Duncan JB at the bridge and a Jazz at the neck, volume and tone controls, and a blade-style switch. The trem is an upgraded version of Jackson's JT580LP low-profile licensed Floyd. Standard non-locking Jackson tuners, large strap buttons, and black hardware all around.
Lots of features on a reasonably priced Japanese guitar. It shipped in a Jackson case, which was extra. I can't think of any features it doesn't have.
Sound
:8
I play melodic death/thrash metal, and the DK2M is a very good fit. I've been playing Jacksons for many years, so I expected nothing less. My rig consists of ART Xtreme distortion into Peavey tube amps, plus any number of other devices. This style of music requires high gain, and with that gain comes noise, but I notice no more noise with the DK2M than with other guitars.
The Duncan pickups are a welcome feature in an inexpensive guitar. The JB (bridge) and Jazz (neck) are not my favorite pickups, but they are suitable for many different styles with generally favorable results. The JB is bright, but not excessively so, due in part to the alder body. It sustains nicely and has good note definition, although it doesn't react as well to palm-muting as other pickups I've used. The Jazz has passable clean tones, but lacks the sparkle of a good single coil.
This guitar can cover a wide range of sounds for rock, blues, metal and probably others. It's not quite as full-sounding as a Les Paul, but it is one of the more versatile dual-humbucker guitars I've played. If this was my only guitar, I wouldn't feel that I was missing out on anything. The tone is less harsh than some alder guitars I've played.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
This DK2M is the perfect example of how a brand new guitar should look and feel. Other than raising the action slightly and blocking the trem, I didn't need to make any adjustments. It was in tune right out of the box (shipped from the East Coast to Minnesota in the summer, no less), and even before I blocked the trem, it stayed in tune while I put it through its paces. The finish is beautiful, the fretwork is flawless, and the binding and inlays are perfect. No crackle from the pickup switch or pots. The neck profile is a little different from the early `90s Jackson imports I am accustomed to, rounder or thicker to a slight degree without being a drastic departure from the older models. If anything, the modern profile is even more comfortable.
Excellent workmanship and quality components all around.
Reliability/Durability
:10
I had this guitar long enough for two practice sessions before playing it at a gig, and will gig with it again soon. There is nothing about it that would dissuade me from playing it live frequently. The strap buttons are huge as is typical for Jackson guitars, and the new-for-2006 version of the JT580LP trem seems a bit more "heavy duty" than in recent years. According to the published specs, the knife edges and posts are now steel instead of whatever cheap metal was used previously.
Solid finish, solid hardware, and a sturdy feel all around. Would I gig without a backup? Probably not, when I have spares available, but I don't anticipate any issues.

I've been playing for 15+ years, most of that time spent using Jackson guitars. I have several, but this DK2M is the first I've bought brand new in quite some time - the others are all from `97 or earlier. I did my homework and knew exactly what I was getting. This wasn't a matter of needing a new guitar, but rather finally seeing a new model that had features (maple fretboard, black binding and inlays, trans black finish) my others didn't have already. If necessary, I'd buy another without hesitation.
This is a guitar that sounds great out of the box, is very comfortable to play, and doesn't look like every other guitar on the market. No regrets here.
