Bought it in 2007 used probably 2006. Alder body, bolt-on maple neck with 24 Jumbo frets. The frets are simply awesome! I have been playing the guitar almost every single day and still there are no signs of wear. And they shine like new. This neck alone is worth $300 on the bay. I once wanted to buy just the neck. So, hold on to them!

String thru body, Tuneomatic hard-tail bridge. What that means is, after playing a song in D-standard, I can drop the low string to drop-C, without having to worry about other strings going out of tune. Sweet!

2 Humbuckers, seymour duncan's...1 volume, 1 tone and a pickup selector switch. The electronics aren't the greatest. There seems to be no "string-grounding" as explained a guitar tech. As a result, there is a horrible hum that this guitar makes in my band-mate's garage. The garage does not have a proper grounding. To rectify the problem, I connected a wire to the common ground, brought it out of the bridge pickup's hole and put it between the TOM and its screw. Basically, now, when I touch the strings, the noise is not there and the guitar is quiet. My SL2HT with the exact same TOM string thru bridge is as quiet as a mouse in my bandmate's garage.

Sounds brighter than my Sl2ht and the DK2M. That is somewhat surprising since the DK2M has a complete maple neck. This one has a rosewood fingerboard. I would have expected the DK2M to be brighter of the three. Anyway, for all those who think body wood matters too much, this comparision might seem weird. I still have the passives (seymour duncans) in H-H configuration and the output is more than enough to play rhythm and lead in a Metal band. No need of them actives and battery changes and "dont forget to unplug the guitar cable" stuff.

I was surprised to see that this is only the third review this excellent piece of artwork has got! Other than a few dings and scratches here and there (since I bought it used), the guitar is flawless. Construction is top-notch. You need to hit it real hard to make a ding. No loose/breaks in bindings or frets that have come off the board, etc. Well, its made in Japan. We all know how good the japanese products are right?

It has a thin trans-black veneer which looks gorgeous under sun-light. When the guitar is hanging on the wall, with the white background, the beast is the most awesome looking, metal guitar I've laid my eyes (or hands) on.

Seems pretty well built. I think I can gig without a backup (but I'm not going to). Strap buttons are the large sized ones. If you have leather straps, proly you dont even need to get strap locks! I didnt. At least not until I joined a band.

Screws and bridge materials seem to be a little corroded. The guitar is just over two or three year old.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No idea. Its a used guitar and so I dont think I will get any help from them.

This is simply a great guitar. This is my 4th Jackson and my 13th guitar. I own a Made in USA Jackson SL2HT yellow bengal which costed me more than 5 times what I paid for this baby, but I always go back to this guitar. The Sl2ht just sits and sits in it case. But this guitar cannot touch the tone of the SL2HT. but that's a whole different story.

i play metal , using a marshall VS100 with a 100 watt cab underneath , few pedals , delay , chorus , wah , noise suppressor .

Seymour Duncans are pretty noisy , i'll change them to EMGs soon . great sound though .

bright sound , stays clear for metal ( probalby coz of alder , i play in drop B # mostly , and mahogany can sound er ... muddy ? )

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
action was PHAT when i got the guitar :) pickups were adjusted a lil too high , magnetic pull on duncans alters intonation , so i put them a bit lower than most . everything was top notch from factory . ive heard bad stuff bout jackson since fender took over , but i think they're as good as ever .

Reliability/Durability : 7
uhhh its pretty good i guess , strap buttons especially . tuners are a bit shit though . i never play without backup , but i dont think it would explode or anything lol

Made in Japan, 2006. This model was introduced in January 2006. 3 piece alder soloist body, 2 Seymour Duncan Humbuckers, JB in bridge, Jazz in neck. One master volume, one master tone, three way blade switch. String -through hardtail. Maple neck, rosewood 24 jumbo fret fretboard.Black finish. No case included, truss rod tool included. Usually I change the strap buttons to a Schaller locking set, but the strap buttons provided on this model securely hold my strap. Also, I usually install locking tuners. Again, the units provided work so well that I don't see having to replace them anytime soon.

Sound : 9
Amazing singing sustain, even unplugged, for a bolt on. Pickups are well balanced. JB is exceptionally harmonically active, Jazz very smooth.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Guitar was horribly set up from factory. After adjusting the neck's truss rod, evening the balance of the pickup heights and output, and tweaking the bridge, everything jelled really well. In my experience, I've never had a guitar absolutely perfect from the dealer-always have to adjust to suit my taste, so no points off for that. Neck is finished exceptionally well for the price-fretwork is outstanding. Try running your fingers down the edges of the frets on a Guitar Center Fender. Neck was set perfectly in its pocket. Knobs and switch are sturdy and have nice, even travel. My only gripe is that some seam lines are visible beneath the black finish.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Just made purchase-will write an addendum to explain how the guitar held up. Don't see any aspects that may cause problems.

Have been playing for over 20 years. Was looking for a superstrat with a hardtail and two humbuckers for under a grand. Found one-way under a grand. great, well built, affordable guitar. may at some point in the future buy the American Neck-through version of this guitar, but until then, I'm more than fulfilled by this instruments quality and tone. Love the neck and the sculpting around the lower horn on the front , and around the neck/body joint on the back. A solid deal!
