Solid Japanese-built guitar. Fully loaded with Duncan hums at the bridge and neck and Duncan SC in the middle. Finish seems flawless, although if fills up with fingerprints realtivley quickly, but that's easily taken care of. It has the coolest Shark Fin inlays, probably Jackson's biggest signature trait. It looks killer. Definitley a great metal guitar. Not too bad for other styles, such as country, jazz, or blues either. The SC hums quite a bit, but it has a decent sound. The bridge humbucker has a nice 'Tallica sound to it, but not quite the same as an EMG-81 or 60. The Neck pickup is decent for rythym playing, but I personally don't use it much at all for anything, except for a few odd tricks I like to pull every now and then. Since the pickups are active, they require a 9-volt battery to power the internal preamp, but it has a half life of about 700 hours, and it's easily replaceable. Poplar body has a beautiful sound. Maple neck, rosewood fretboard, and super-thin neck make this guitar THE NICEST thing to play. The only few drawbacks are, of course, the Duncan pickups could be EMG's. I have nothing against Duncan, they're pickups are wonderful, but EMG just has that certain punch for any type of music you like to play. Another thing I'd change is the Floyd Rose Tremelo. I hardly use this, since I am a rythym player by choice. It's also a problem for restringing at tuning, cause once something happens to even one string, the whole guitar goes out of tune. The other thing is that it is a bolt-on neck. I don't mind the bolt-on, and contrary to popular belief, it DOES NOT GET IN THE WAY OF ACCESSING THE HIGHER OF THE 24 JUMBO FRETS!! I just perfer the sustain in a neck-thru or a set neck. BUt with the bolt on, you can replace the neck much easier. It comes in a Jackson hardshell case. But The Features are nice overall.

This guitar is definitley a great metal guitar. Not too bad for other styles, such as country, jazz, or blues either. I wouldn't make it my first choice for most of those styles, but for metal, it's probably one of the top contenders. The poplar body gives this guitar a super thick sound at any volume. I only wish there was 2 volume knobs and 1 tone, but there is only 1 volume and one tone, so you kinda just have to control the overall volume. The H/S/H pickup config. make this guitar suitable for many styles. Not the richest sounding guitar, but it does the job that it's sent to do. All the pickups have somewhat of a hum to them, especially the SC, but so do the Humbuckers (Not all that much though). I've played with better sounding guitars, but not many. It's sound is not just another model of a Paul or PRS or Fender, but it has a sound all it's own.
Action, Fit, & Finish

From the factory, the action was too high for me, so I lowered it, but now, I raised it a bit again. The Pickups were well adjusted, and the neck is very playable. Truss rod has stayed perfect for as long as I've owned this guitar (about 1 1/2 years). Never had to adjust it. The neck is super-thin and super-fast, making it super-easy to play. Only a few problems, the controls have come loose quite a bit (Volume knob twice, Tone once, 1/4 jack numerous times), but that's easily taken care of. The black finish on my prints up really quickly, but you would expect that. The finish itself is nice and shinny. All in all, it's very playable.

The finish is lasting. The finish has dented a few times (dropped the phone on the body, powerful missed picks, ran into a door with the headstock teeth marks from trying to be Jimi Hendrix :)), but not even into the wood. The hardware is not bad, nothiin special about it though. I've used this live and it has suited me well. I'd never gig without a backup though, just for the simple reason of the flyod rose tremolo and a string breaking, cause it takes forever to restring and retune this beast. The strap buttons, which I've replaced with a straplock, are decent. The strap would ocassionally come off, but that's caused by the extra long slit in my strap.

Never had to deal with Jackson, well, I did ask them about something once on their website (they never got back to me), but it wasn't important. If it was, I would have remembered what I said :)

When I purchased this guitar, I had gone through weeks of vigirous testing of guitars to find which one I was to spend my hard earned money on. There were some really great ones, such as the ESP JH-2, PRS Customs, and various Les Pauls, but I had no intent on buying any of those, except for the JH-2, because they just would not quite give me the sound I was looking for at the time. The Jackson DK3 did this the best, and it was at a great price. It came down to the DK3 and an ESP EX-350. I chose the DK3 becasue I liked the flexibilty of the different tones, 24 x-jumbo frets (compared to the EX-350's 22), and poplar body. I think I made the better choice. I do wish it had EMG pickups and a fixed bridge. But other than that, it is an exellent guitar for your money! If you're lookin' for another ax to add to your arsenal, check into this one. Even though it's no longer being produced, you'll occasionally find one in a music store or at a trade show. If you happen to run across one of these babies, fork over the money and pick this baby up! You won't be sorry!

This is a Japanese-made guitar -- probably came out of the factory in 1999 or 2000. 24 jumbo frets, one volume knob, one tone knob, a Floyd Rose tremolo, locking nut, two Duncan designed humbuckers on either side of a single-coil pickup. The selector has five settings. I'm not sure about the woods, though a review below gets into that. The fingerboard is rosewood on a thin, easy-to-play neck.
Sound

The sound is good and full, this guitar gives you a decent range. However, it clearly suits a heavy rock style. I use a Vox amp (currently, I'm just looking for clean tone so I can get my chops down), Boss and Marshall distortion pedals, and a Crybaby Wah. Of course, the single-coil is a little noisy.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The factory-set action was okay, but not low enough for me. That said, I like a guitar set as low as I can get it without buzz. I don't know enough about making guitars to judge the way it was routed or bookmatched. But I'll say this: it plays well, and all of the components appear to be well-made. The only real complaint is that the tuning keys are not that smooth when you turn them. Tuning isn't really a problem -- it's just touchy. Maybe it's just my guitar.

This guitar can be played live, of course. The hardware is solid, and the finish is beautiful. The strap buttons were fine, but I replaced them with a locking system (it's a preference of mine). The only reason I wouldn't gig without a backup is because restringing is time consuming (you have to snip the strings to lock them into the Floyd Rose).

I've been playing on-and-off since 1985. I play this with a Vox Cambridge Reverb, Marshall Jackhammer distortion, Boss Metal Zone, Boss Chorus, Crybaby 535 Wah, and a few other effects. While I'm not about to sell it, I don't plan on keeping this as my top guitar forever -- I'm considering an American Strat, a Les Paul or a PRS McCarty sometime in the months ahead. I think this guitar is great for the money -- but I don't know that it has the personality of the three guitars listed above. I plan to keep it as a backup. When I bought it, I compared it with other guitars in the same price range: a Mexican Strat, an ESP and an Ibanez. The Jackson was the clear winner.

It's a japan made solid body guitar with a poplar body and a maple neck. The fingerboard is rosewood with 24 jumbo frets. It has got two duncan designed humbuckers (one in the neck and one in the bridge). there is one tone control and one volume control and a 3 way pu selector. The bridge is floyd rose and the tuners are locking.

I'm using this guitar with a shitty solid-state amp and it still sounds good. The guitar has quite a bassy sound and suites rock/ metal perfectly. The humbuckers have an quite high output and the have no problem overdriving an amp even at low volumes. If you don't like distortion this guitar is not the right one for you but everybody who digs it should try this guitar.

the action was set up quite low but there was some string buzz so it put it a bit higher. the finish was good and i could not find any flaws

this guitar should withstand most abuse anybody will put it out for. But i wouldn't gig without a backup just because oof the floyd rose system whick takes a while to restring.(beside Any restringing on stage is not good )

It's a good guitar playing distorted. clean sounds tend to overdrive tooo easily but the can be kept clean by backing of the volume of the pu. Anyway this guitar has the looks for a real metal guitar so why play jazz with it. If been playing for six years now and i thought my ibanez (which i also own) was easy to play, but the slim neck of this guitar is really worth checking out(it's incredibly easy to play).
