this is a standard Japanese "superstrat". 24 frets on a super thin and flat maple rosewood neck. Two Jackson Humbuckers. i would like to get new seymour duncans. black paint on alder. floyd rose trem with locking nut. gotoh tuners.

Sound : 7
i mostly play rock and it works great with it. i play out of a peavey bandit and a 5150 van halen half stack. sounds awsome. the pickups arent my favorite, so i think im going to replace them.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
i set it up myslef and all of the other adjustments myself even though im 14 years old. plus i bought it used so i dont know how it was originally set up.

Reliability/Durability : 9
it seems like it will last a few more decades. its solid! the hardware is fine. the finish is good. though it does have a few dings. its very dependable and solid.

Customer Support : 9
didnt deal with them

Overall Rating : 9
its a good solid, well sounding, well playing guitar. if it was lost o stolen i would try to get another one. i love then neck. the only think i dont like is the floyd rose.

This is an early 90's Jackson, 24 frets, volume, tone, 3-way strat-style selector switch, two humbuckers, flat black finish. I've had this guitar for about 6-7 years. About three or four years ago I had the stock piclups ripped out, and replaced with Dimarzio's (PAF Pro, Tone Zone). Floyd Rose type bridge.

Sound : 10
This guitar sounds great, especially since I replaced the pickups. I can't really say how the stock pickups were, since it's been so long since I played them, except to say that there was an unnerving amount of feedback.
I typically use this with half-stacks and combos, Crate & Vox (although I'm ditching the Crates and sticking with Voxes). Very good in both scenarios, and obviously very good for metal. I pretty much stick to straightforward rock, and it works great, sound-wise.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Action was fantastic, and still is. There were no flaws in the guitar from the factory.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Reliability? Holy Moses, I've done SEVERAL shows with NO backup guitar, and never even worried. I recently *did* break a string onstage, but that was because an audience member who had a little too much to drink beagan ... bouncing on my guitar. I was NOT happy, to say the least (that time I did bring a back-up). Otherwise, this is a fantastically reliable guitar. Can't be beat. Stays in tune, stings don't break, what else can you ask for?

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them.

Been playing for about 10-11 years. I own other Jackson guitars, but that's because once I played one, I never went back. I used to own Fenders, Strats mostly, but I've played Les Pauls, Ibanez (used to own a Roadstar), Kramer, etc. I make it a point to try everything out. Best of all? The guitar is very light, so it makes long practices and sets a breeze (although, my DR6 is lighter).

Japanese 'Professional Series'. Two hums, volume, tone, three way switch, licensed floyd, 24 frets bolt on dot markers. "violet matallic" Just the basics for rock and roll Little basic toolkit with allens etc...

Sound : 8
First - DUMP THE STOCK PICKUPS. Put in something that suits your music. I went with EMG active 81's - NEW guitar. Sounds great and agressive but can still clean up. Works from blues to metal

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Fit and finish= OK. Better than the new Korean models. Action = Incredible. Have NEVER played another guitar with a neck this fast and I've tried them ALL (kinda) The only thing that still ticks me off is the noisy 3 way switch. Life is rough eh? Gets an 8 for the fit and a ten for the action.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Had for 3 years, around a hundred gigs- no damage finish is good except wear at corner of Floyd where palm rests (don't they all). Knock on wood - I'VE NEVER BROKEN A STRING ONSTAGE WITH THIS GUITAR! Is it the guitar or the Dean markley 9-42's. Who knows?

Customer Support : 6
Kind of slow, not as good as others but I'm sure they get a ton of inquiries.

Overall Rating : 9
Love it, went through 12 other guitars last year and this is the only survivor. I'd buy another and drop in some Duncan Live Wires this time for a back up.

This is a 95 Jackson DR5, and probably the best guitar I have owned. Decided on the DR5 instead of the 2 or 3 because I wasn't really into the Shark Fin inlays. The body is soild alder with a blue satin finish. Two jackson humbuckers and a Floyd Rose tremolo. It has 24 frets on a narrow VERY fast neck.

Sound : 7
I play a little bit of everything, and wanted a dependable guitar that was very diverse. Though it is more suited for metal, I have played blues and classical through it with good quality sound. I find the neck pick-up is a little muddy and is drowned out by the bridge pickup at higher volumes. I suggest replacing both pik-ups. I put in two Gibson PAF's, and it sounds incrdible. Probably a 7 with the Jackson pick-ups, but a 9 or 10 with the Gibson's.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action on this guitar was very low and fast. Like I said, I have had several guitars, and none preformed as well as this one. For out of the box play-a-bilty, I would give this a 10.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I've only had this guitar 4 years, but played it 2-3 hours everyday. It has withstood everything I have put it through, and there has been no problems. Jackson finishes are phenomenal, and will last a nuclear blast. I would definitley take this into a show alone, with a second one as a back up for broken strings.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing about 18 years, but only seriuosly for about 7. I have had a couple of Strats a Les Paul an few Ibanez'and a Charvel. Of these The only one I consistently pick-up and play is the Jackson. The sound can't be beat, and with the PAF's, it gives my Les Paul a run for it's money. If it were stolen, I would be lost. Jackson stopped making this to focus on their American made DR 3 and Soloists. I would definitely look for another one on the used market. I do recommend a pick-up change. With that I really believe you can't find a better guitar.

These were the features I was looking for and this guitar had it: Non-shark inlays(regular dot inlays on this), a locking trem(great on this guitar), double humbuckers without the single coil in the middle, 24 frets and a badass black finish.

Sound : 7
I like to play a lot of classic rock and some heavy metal stuff and I play this guitar with a Marshall Valvestate 30 Watt amp. This guitar is great for the distorted/overdriven sounds of metal. The clean sounds aren't as good as they could be though. The bridge pickup is great but the neck is one of the weakest I've ever heard. The guitar isn't too noisy but it can be with a lot of gain. If you need a guitar for heavy sounds, this is a great one!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The only problem I had with this guitar was the selector switch which came off very quickly.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
So far I haven't had any problems and the guitar seems to be built very well and will probably last for a long time.

Customer Support : 3
I've never had to deal with the company although once I asked about the guitar's availability through email and they never reply.

Overall Rating : 9
If this guitar were ever stolen, I don't think I could replace it because it's not being made anymore(I think). If it was stolen and I had the money I would buy another model or get something like an ESP MII which I think is about the same thing. This guitar's got some great distorted sounds but is very lacking on the clean sounds.

Made in 94 I think, probably in Japan, 24 jumbo frets, maple neck w/ rosewood board, offset dot inlays, 2 passive Jackson hums (not sure what models), 3-way switch, 1 vol 1 tone, Jackson Floyd trem, body is basswood (I think), finished in a dark purple color, strat shape, Jackson tuners, thin neck that's very flat, hardshell case included.

Sound : 6
This guitar sounds good with the gain cranked up but the clean sounds are somewhat lacking. I'm a product of the late 80's/early 90's thrash metal scene, so I can get by without the clean sounds most of the time. Pickups aren't overly noisy, but definitely not 81's. The bridge pickup sounds alright, maybe a bit muddy, but the neck pickup isn't very good at all. Good rock and metal sounds, but that's it. Playing through a Crate Blue Voodoo 212 and a Boss Metal Zone pedal. I would love to replace the pickups, but it's not worth it in this axe. Thinking about a new USA Soloist.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
I bought this guitar used, but it was in new condition. I actually raised the action a bit, even though it wasn't buzzing, just so I could dig into my 11-48's a little more. The finish is alright, not spectacular, and everything seems to be put together right - everything is about what you would expect from a mid-priced foreign-made axe.

Reliability/Durability : 7
This axe seems solid and sturdy, and the finish is in good shape. The strap buttons loosen up after a while but I just screw 'em back in - no big deal. Haven't had any problems so far, but I would never play a gig without a backup - tried that once - trust me: DON'T DO IT!

Customer Support : No Opinion
I sent the serial number of my guitar to Jackson to try to learn more about it, such as the model number and what year it was made, but I never received a reply. Other than that, no contact with the company.

Overall Rating : 7
Overall, this is a decent mid priced guitar well suited for metal and hard rock. I wish the pickups sounded better, but hey, for $300, you can't have everything. Plays nice, and will make a good back up to the USA Soloist I am drooling on. Have been playing for 10 years (I am 22 years old), If it was stolen, I would probably save my money and get something USA made.

I have a USA made DR5 that I bought used for $300. An EXCELLENT deal for the quality of the guitar. It has 24 frets, H/H pickup configuration, 3-way selector, tone control, and a volume control. I'm still using the factory Jackson pickups, but I'm considering replacing them with Seymor Duncans. The fretboard has an excellent feel, and great playability. INCREDIBLY low action!! The Floyd Rose tremolo works like a charm.

Sound : 9
I play mostly heavier music. Kinda in the vein of Lynch/Van Halen/Vai. The guitar is perfect for the job (keeping in mind my meager spending capabilities). I'm sure you could get a better guitar, but as far as price vs. quality goes, I'm not sure if there is another guitar to match it's value.
The bridge pickup (still using the factory Jackson pickup) sounds FAT!! The only reason I'm kinda considering changing to Seymor Duncan is to raise the output EVEN MORE!! The neck pickup could have been better though. If you're into the clean neck pickup sound, I'm afraid you will not be too happy. However, I have been able to get some AWESOME clean sounds out of it in conjunction with my Zoom 3030.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
As I said, I bought this guitar used. I expected to have to make a bunch of changes to it. The only thing I've changed so far is lower the saddle for a REALLY LOW ACTION. All this with NO string buzz.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I've played 2 shows with this guitar now. The only reason I use a backup is in case I break my strings. Oh, and I had to replace the screws on the input jack.... they came really loose.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing the guitar for 5 years. I've owned only one guitar before this one. I was this no name guitar with 2 single coil pickups, a fixed bridge. It still sounded good though. The Jackson is WAY better. I'd definately buy it again. I can't afford any other "GOOD" guitar.

This guitar is a Japanese made strat-style, with two humbuckers, a volume, a tone, a 5 way switch and a Floyd Rose. The neck is maple with a rosewood fingerboard and 24 frets. The body is basewood. The neck is really comfortable to play.

Sound : 8
I mostly play hardrock/metal but I do try and play everything. Overall it's a great guitar. It's not noisy at all. It's got pretty good clean tones on the neck pickup. The bridge is great for leads. I have a Boss GX700 rack and a Peavey combo and I can do all I need to (for the most part) from that. I use a straight distortion sound alot (lots of White Zombie lately), and the guitar is perferct. The Floyd Rose stays in tune perfect. However there is some string buzz. That can get kind of annoying. But what can you expect with such low action?

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The neck is set up for really low action. Very easy to play. The frets are big, so soloing and stuff is cool. It was set up fine when I got it. I have raised the bridge pickup and lowered the neck pickup though.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I've had it a year now. I've played hours everyday with no problems. I've put a few stickers on...the black finish doesn't look as cool now as it did when I bought it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with Jackson

Overall Rating : 10
This guitar is great. I want another now, just set up for a lower tuning. I'd probably get the same type, maybe a Soloist cause of the neckthru
