Amber Sunburst, strat style (Dinky), locking Tune-O-Matic through body (upgraded on budget from GFS), thin flamed top, multiple piece Alder or Basswood, upgraded tuners from GFS (Grover Les Paul style)...
Neck is thin Maple with a Rosewood board, the bolt on is modified for better access, 22 Frets, medium wire...
Made in Japan before Fender (not that it makes any difference)...
It has a three way (upgraded using a Fender tele switch), 1 volume, 1 tone, and I upgraded the pickups with Carvin Holdsworth H22's I had sitting around just for shits and giggles. It has 2 passive Hummers...
It's a pretty basic workhorse that I got really cheap and sat in the back of my closet until I learned how to solder...but it's a player...
Because it needed some upgrading for playability...I give it a "C".
Sound

I play everything from reggae to jazz (notice that I didn't say I was great)...
I've played many years on many guitars. I have many guitars that are more expensive, but this one, after the upgrades, can keep up with any of them. It may be a little less complex, but that's not always a bad thing...
The Carvin pickups took a lot of fooling with to tune them just right. I had to raise all the poles and bring them up fairly close to the strings in order to give them a Holdsworthian zing. Legato works better, for me, when the pickups are really feeling what's going on from my fingers.
Because I play without a pick and not too much gain, I have no trouble with extra noise. Of course, these are details that have more to do with the pickups than the guitar, so...
I play through a Mesa F30 and a Gibson Goldtone. Both sound great.
Really, there's nothing to complain about after I fiddled for a few days with the set up.
By the way, I've had this guitar for 3-4 years, maybe longer. This is far from a honeymoon review. It seems to be a guitar that was great to develop on and can handle tweaks in order to take it with me to the next level (and it was dirt cheap).

I don't remember the factory set up, the pickups, or all the other yada yada's.
I do remember that it was great for awhile and then I outgrew it. This was probably because of a combination of things. With minimal money, though, I was able to take this decidedly weak stock setup and develop it into a stable workhorse.
I can take it to any jam or whatever, let a bunch of yahoos play it (hammer), and it will stay in tune and sound fine. I don't need to fuss or worry...that counts for a lot.
Reliability/Durability

I've played it live many times.
I've seen it lose screws and bump into things, but it stays steady and keeps going. In fact, I think one of my pickups only has one screw holding it in right now...
Customer Support

The store I shop at, Island Guitars, is super helpful. Pete does good work.
Jackson doesn't seem very interested in customer service beyond making decent guitars...The 5 is a balance between 10 for Pete and 0 for Jackson.

I've been playing a long time.
Guitars are fun. I could probably live with just one, but it's fun to have a few.
If I only had one, though: this would not be it. It's fine and fun, but I don't worry too much about it. It isn't precious. If someone stole it, then I'd be bummed, but I'd get over it.
People who steal stuff, though, are serious pieces of shit. Stealing a guitar is wrong on so many levels. A guitar is such a personal thing; it's like stealing someone's underwear or socks.
Oh well...

All of the other details are here about this guitar, except that on mine I got a nice burst finish. Dinky style with a string-thru body and excludes the case. It's got Duncan Designed pickups and a fast, thin neck which proves extremely well for soloing. Better pickups and tuners would make this guitar sound as good as it feels. If you're looking for a good beginner model guitar, then get this. It'll look cool and be easy for you to start playing on. It's affordable as well, which is always a plus!!
Sound

I play a lot of hard stuff and leads, and this guitar has a great hard-hitting sound. The pickups were so so, but these are Duncan designed, and you get what you pay for. No complaints about the variety because again you're paying for the Jackson sound. If I switched the pickups out then I'd probably be more than satisfied, but for a beginner guitar there's nothing better than a cool, affordable guitar.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The finish is SOLID. I don't think I could've seriously asked for a more solid finish. No flaws, or rusting. The tone knob was loose and eventually fell off, but I kind of expected that to happen. The action was fairly low on this guitar, perfect height in my opinion to play on. The tuners are crap though, utter crap. You play in too much heat or just play too much/hard and your tuning is out right away, on STANDARD tuning to boot. Drop down and watch out. Since there is no whammy option, I'm surprised this has happened. At first being more of a bass player/drummer and an inexperienced guitar player, I didn't notice the difference, but now that I've played for a few years, I definately notice it quite a bit. The intonation can be knocked out easily as well. Saddle is ok quality, defiantely good enough for a beginner.
Action=10
Everything else=6, so it gets a 7.

The only thing that happened with this guitar is the usual loose cable jack and tone knob falling off, but those come loose on most Jacksons and guitars in general anyway. Will it withstand live playing?? It would, but it wouldn't sound very good. Very light to play onstage with, though. Never had a problem with the strap buttons, as they are sturdy, as is the finish. I could depend on this guitar if needed, but I wouldn't want it as my main axe when playing shows.

Haven't had to use it, but Jackson is a good company (they are owned by Fender now), so I know if I had a problem I could definately get it fixed.

I've been playing guitar for a few years, and I don't regret buying this guitar. It has a fast neck and looks awesome. I chose this one because of the way it looked, and I don't think I could've asked for a better guitar to start out on.

i this guitar about 9 months ago. not really sure where it was made but i do know its made in Japan.
22 frets
dark metallic red finish
2 controls( master volume and master tone) and a 3 way switch
double humbuckers( duncan designed), passive
not really sure about the woods but its damn light.
its a strat with tune-o-matic bridge.

this guitar is perfect for metal. i play metallica mainly and some other stuff and the occasional punk. suits them all.
i run this axe through a ZOOM GFX 8(read my review for that) into an ibanez toneblaster 25w amp with reverb. i have been quite satisfied with the sound i get. the duncan designed pickups sound very mild. i turn the volume and tone all the way up most of the time. overall they are OK but i intend to put in a set of duncan invaders or EMG 81s once i get some cash. he he he. i give it a 7 for its crappy pickups.

i got mine from a shop, so it was set up quite well. i lowered the strings alot more tho. and it feels damn good to shred on it now.
now this is where i have to make my biggest complain. the volume control aint really a control at all. mine just serves to turn the guitar on and off. there is no gradual decrease in output as i turn the knob. i suspect the potentiometer is dirty. gonna have it checked soon. apart from that, no major complains. im still rather pleased with it. 6 for the spoilt volume knob

i have performed live with this guitar twice and there was no problem at all. the hardware is still in good condition, no rust or loosening yet. this guitar is built to last. only thing im worried about is the paint. i got it chipped just with a little bump the other time. the body finish is the only thing that u can expect to wear off on this guitar after some time. im not really sure about the strap buttons. they are OK, but i put in my own set of jim dunlop straplocks for some protection tho. And yes, i have used it without backup before and i will next time. just dont be some posuer and trash ur guitar on stage and this guitar will outlive u.

i have been playing for about 10 months already. i dont own any other guitars but my next axe would be jackson randy rhoads or an ESP KH-2. these 2 brands are the symbols of metal. i was comparing it with an ibanez rg 270 dx and an epiphone les paul. the ibanez was quite alright but it didnt feel as good as this guitar. the lespaul was so so. first of all i dont like painted necks. they feel sticky. and secondly it didnt sound as nice as this guitar.

02-03 model. I cant understand why this guitar was so cheap. Alder body, rock maple neck, string through body. and the 3 & 3 headstock makes this a really attractive guitar. My biggest complaint is that the tuners are complete garbage. replaced mine with planet waves and now its one of my faves. the only other thing that would have made this guitar immaculate (besides a neck-through design)would be a solid top. as any Jackson player knows...you chip this veneer & it's all down hill. the pickups are good for the price, but a set of active EMG's makes this guitar worth its weight in gold. 220 bucks for the guitar, 200 bucks for top of the line pickups & tuners and this guitar is a 10.

came with perfectly set action. I play metal & rock and the guitar is perfect for it. running through a line6 spider II HD & 412 I get monster sound. mildly weak before the active PU's but now it gets alot of play in my guitar rotation.

I'm a sucker for a straight head stock with 3-a-side tuners. so just about anything that has that gets a 10 from me. between that and the string through body, this guitar is even great to look at. mine is a trans flame blue, very dark, its nice but im not really into color, thats why i like this one....it's so dark you have to be up close to notice that its blue. frets were tight and everything was aligned & in tact.

ROCK MAPLE NECK, ALDER BODY.....I think its pretty damn durable. if you dont know what rock maple is, do some research on it. between that and the alder body the only weak point on this guitar that isnt hardware is the veneer top. everything else is solid

I have to give this guitar a 10, it's a jackson, fine woods, killer looks, best value. I also own an SLSMG, SL4 and ESP f-200. I've had other guitars come and go but this ones staying in my collection for many reasons. If you're even thinking about buying this guitar, don't hesitate, do it! just be ready to buy tuners for it.

Late 2002 or early 2003 model. Says it's made in Japan. 24 Jumbo frets on a blot on maple neck with rosewood finger baord. Not the traditional Jackson head on the neck. Three per side tuners on this one. H/H Duncan Designed HB-103 Humbucker pickups with a three way switch, single volume and tone controls. Dinky style alder body with solid black finish. Tunamatic Bridge with Strings-Through-Body. Chrome hardware, 25.5 scale. Guitar came new in a box. No paperwork or accessories. I purchased this guitar on GuitarTrader.com outlet page. It was suppose to have a chip on the top, but this one came without a mark on it. I was looking for an inexpensive dual humbucker guitar with a tunamatic. Not a whole lot of features, just a straight forward dual humbucker rock guitar. Things that did impress me were the big strap buttons, and that the guitar is light in weight. The only real negative is that the tuners are crap. I changed them out for some Schaller Mini Locking Tuners from Warmoth right away.

Play mostly rock and roll. Some blues, some heavy rock. Play through a Peavey Classic 50 212 and a Kustom Tube 12. Sometimes use a Digitech RP 300 but usually just run guitars through a Boss Blues Driver and a Dunlop Wah into the amp. The Duncan Designed pickups are fine, but I plan to change them out with a real set of Duncans. My other electrics are Strats. Of course a dual humbucker is not a strat, but I have gotten good sounds and tone from this guitar.

Guitar was set up ok, action was fine. Pickups were set high. It came with 9's, which proptly were changed to 10's. Adjusted the intonation and it plays great.

I have only had the guitar for a month. Played it about 20 hours. Took it out once for a live jam, no problems. I don't see how it wouldn't hold up. It's a solid guitar. But always bring a backup.

This was an online purchase, though I have made other purchases from GuitarTrader.com before without any problems. But since this was purchased on the Outlet Site, they didn't ship a warranty card or any other documents. As far as dealing with Jackson....who knows. If it breaks, I guess I'm on my own. But fixing your own gear is part of the fun.

Been playing off and on for the last 15 years but have gotten back into playing steady 2 years ago. I was just looking for a dual humbucker to go along with my strats. Found this Jackson DX6 that was suppose to have a chip on it for $229. Like mentioned above, it didn't have a mark on it. I have looked around the internet and seen this model go anywhere between $279 to $399. Shop around, all new musical gear is marked up, but there are good deals to be found out there. There are lots of different brands of gutars that sell in this price range, though none are going to be American made. This one was made in Japan, which IMO are better that the Asian built guitars. If it was lost or stolen, would consider purchaseing again. The only real issue is the tuners. But at $229 and $60 for some locking tuners, this guitar does just fine.
