i am extremely happy with the features on this guitar as it has everything i need the jackson trem system i feel works just as well as the floyd rose one to be totally honest, the trem locks are brilliant i need to tune about once a month because they hold so well. The guitar is the perfect look for me as it just looks metal with the inverted head and the shark fin inlays, it is the guitar that anyone looks perfect with headbanging there way through some chunky riffage. only nuisance i had from this guitar is changing string gauge and dropping to low tunings such as drop C or drop B, requires a great deal of effort because of the floating trem, recommend getting help if your not sure or stick to a tune-o-matic bridge.

This guitar suits my style PERFECTLY! the EMG HZ's hold up for the most brutal riffs you can throw down on this guitar whilst keeping vibrancy for lead sections, they produce a great tone, clean or distorted. they are better sounding in distortion than they are clean but for my musical style i dont need an amazing sounding clean tone, would be easily enough resolved though, could just upgrade to EMG 81 and 85's. I play this guitar through a line 6 spider III amp and it just sounds great. the guitar is silent no buzzing or hissing what so ever.
Action, Fit, & Finish

the factory set up was great i played it factory set up for a while as i was in a band playing in drop D, the action was perfect for busting out slick arpeggios and pinched harmonics are so easily played on this guitar they happen almost by themselves. pick ups were at a perfect height and did not need adjusting, the only real problem was arpeggios really high up the guitar are extremly hard the last 5 frets arent that well accessed could of done with a better cut out. other than that great the gloss black finish with black hardware is a great metal look.
Reliability/Durability

i have gigged with this guitar only had one trouble with it and that was a string breaking which has to happen to everyone at some point, the thing with a floating trem though is that one string goes thats you screwed every string goes out of tune so always have a back up thankfully i did, as i always do, if you don't have a back up your in trouble with any guitar so never gig without two guitars and someone to restring one guitar while you use other, but anyway back to the point, the guitar is very durable bumped it a few times no marks, strap locks not required as the strap holders are strong enough, they can with stand my guitar swings on stage so there are no worries about them, finish hasnt worn at all except on back because of my belt, but the finsih will last especially if well taken care of.

i have been playing a mere 2 years but this is my favourite guitar to date i have owned 8 different guitars this ones a keeper for sure. great look great sound, i love it!
i wish i had known about the troubles of floating trem bridges before buying but now i couldnt care less was a learning experience and now im not bothered by it.
if it was stolen i would buy it again for sure!
i played several different guitars before choosing this such as esp's ibanez(i despise them), schecters and many others this just blew them away in my opinion but everyones different so shop around dont buy on looks or credability guitars are personal preferance.

Pretty much everything was listed in previous reviews, although the control knobs on mine are made of knurled metal rather than plastic (It's 3-4 years old so this may very well have changed on the newer models). The stock HZ pickups were a little muddy for my tastes so I swapped them out for some active EMGs (60/81). The knobs were spaced too far apart for the stock wiring on the EMG pots so it took a little finagling to get them in place. Other than that the only other thing I would've preferred was a metal jackplate, I don't trust it to take a hard knock and not shatter.
Sound
:6
I'm a metal player and that's pretty much what this guitar is suited for. As above the stock pickups didn't quite fit the bill, but I didn't find them to be _bad_. If I didn't already have the actives lying around I don't think I'd have rushed out just to replace them. I play through a a 300w first gen. Warhead, an old Sunn Solaris 12X15 combo (awesome for clean sounds with TONS of headroom), and a Spider II 1X12 when I'm not trying to blow the windows out of the house. The stock setup worked well with each, the HZs lent a warm creamy sound to the mix, and there was very little noise at all but very high volumes. It really came alive with the actives though, it just screams now.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
Action was set at rock bottom from the reseller with no buzz to be found anywhere. As long as I do a decent job in stretching the strings when I put them on (I dive bomb the hell out of it and retune until it returns to true each time before locking it down at the nut) it rarely, if ever, goes out of tune. I've played it in several tunings, and with various string gauges without having a single problem with the tremolo or truss rod. The neck is thin, flat, and fast and the contour where the neck meets the body makes the high frets very accessible. I've not had a problem with the finish yet. By virtue of it being black it shows smudges very easily, but some warm breath and a lint free cloth takes care of it each time. As for the fit, everything is as it should be, it feels very solid despite the light weight. This category, I feel, is where this guitar really shines.
Reliability/Durability
:7
I don't play live, but I don't think it would be the best idea to take _any_ guitar on the road without a suitable backup. As noted above the only issue I really have with the hardware is the cheap jackplate, the pickup rings are plastic as well which I've had problems with in the past (on other guitars) so that could be improved as well. Strap buttons, eh, I always replace the stockers with straplocks so I don't really take issue with them. They did seem wider than most (if that makes sense)so I'd assume they'd do a decent job. It's survived all the minor bumps and bruises so far, so I can't complain!

This guitar just looks pure metal. It has a basswood body (solid black) and a bolt on 3 peice maple/maple/rosewood neck, with a H/H pickup configuration. I would have liked it if the hardware was a chrome or perhaps even gold in colour though
Sound
:9
My main style is metal but because of the passive pickups, its really suited to any type of music thats guitar oriented. I personnally wouldve liked active pickups though, lucky i have it running through a digitech death metal pedal for rhythm and a (believe it or not) a digitech RP50 for a really good lead sound ive discovered. in a way the pickups are good cause ive already got all the distortion i want. They keep the mid tones at a low which is what i really go for

This thing is an absolute BITCH to tune, hence the LICENCED floyd rose. people, never get 1, make sure its the original. once your done fukn round witht he tunings for an hour it should stay put though. This guitar (after a while) bored me in looks, as theres nothing other than BLACK to see

when I first purchased this guitar I liked the HZ's but after 6 months I installed 81/85's and upgraded the floyd to an original. the original floyd rose is much better and the actives scream. after 2 months a volume pot went and I had to replace it. still a good guitar with good looks!

get rid of the HZ's and put in some actives or dimes. but still for the price range not a bad guitar just sell those HZ's on ebay make some cash and buy some decent pickups

I think this is were this guitar really shines for a guitar in this price range it's got hella good action! I also own a custom shop sl2h and someone said that it's comparable I will just say NOT!!! comparing this to a soloist there is no comparison, but what you get for the money is worth it! and this was well built! if you don't know how to set up a Floyd then have someone show you instead of just getting pissed off, guitar center I think will do this for free when you purchase a guitar. also you can not beat that 30 day deal!!

As all the other reviews, you get the picture so I won't repeat again.
One thing to say, the sharkfin inlays and reversed headstock look the business in the flesh!
Sound
:9
This is a rock guitar, that's where it really comes alive. You can play other types of music with it but it really is meant to be thrashed to death! I initially played it through a Metal Zone and a Marshall 100w combo and the sound was really good, I was well impressed. I managed to get relatively good Sabbath, Pantera, Metallica sounds from it no problem.
Six months or so ago I upgraded to a Mode Four half-stack and the DXMG absolutely cooks through it! The only slight moan I have is that the pickups can sounds very slightly muddy at high distortion/volume. I have recently upgraded HZ's to an EMG81/85 set and the improvement has taken it from an excellent guitar to a TOP guitar. With the HZ pups I would have given it an 8, now it's a 9 with the 81/85's.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:8
The finish was good, frets were level and there were no flaws on the body etc. The action was nice and low, although the intonation was slightly out (takes less than ten minutes to sort so it's of no consequence).
Reliability/Durability
:9
I've never had any problems with this guitar, it feels like it's built to last although it's not heavy or cumbersome. I certainly wouldn't gig without a backup purely because if you did so and broke a string, you'd have to stop for five minutes to re-string! I have no worries about the DXMG's construction, it has been dropped a couple of times and once at rehearsal I swung it round me head (don't ask!) and thumped the head into the concrete ceiling.. it gouged it a little but it's still cool - kind of gives it a bit of a battle scar!

I play black metal and some 80's thrash (sodom, destruction...). The guitars suits this styles perfectly. I use it with a boss metal zone pedal and a cheap and crappy AXL 60W. Its sounds really good for this setup, i can't imagine the sound on better amps, it has to be KILLER. The EMG's work well, against what the people say on their reviews, at least when playing black metal.

The action was perfect. No problems on this, only that the floyd comes untuned, and as i am a beginner, it has become something to me difficult to do. the pickups came low so i put the bridge one higher. All material perfect, no scratches etc. and very clean.

i have been playing 4 years with an "academy" cheap stratocaster clone so i think i am too happy with this guitar because of this, its an enormous difference between the 2 guitars. before buying this guitar, i asked if it will suit well for black metal, and they said to me that it suits perfectly on any kind of metal. I love the shape, color, and something that really impressed me is how easy is playing it at fast riffs (tremolo picking - pure black metal hehe) or fast palm mutes (Trash). I compared this guitar with some same-price ibanez's, but all the ibanez's come with generic Ibanez pick-ups, thats why i bought this.

Made in Japan, 24 frets, alder body covered in grey metalic type paint, passive EMG HZ pickups, nice comfortable super strat body style like an Ibanez, maple neck with lovely looking rosewood board(I must have gotten lucky!), locking nut and floating tremolo, and a H-H pickup configuration with plastic pickup rings.
Sound
:5
People spend 2 thousand pounds on PRS guitars and the first thing they do is change the pickups, so their sound is really not important, most people will either change them right away, or do it at a later date, but in most cases a pickup change is inevitable.
To answer the question, the pickups are EMG HZ, and are not sounding particularly sweet. They are thin sounding, and to save all the jibba jabba, they are nothing compared to the 85 or 81. You get the picture, but that's not to say that a player cannot be content with these pickups until a time when he can upgrade. They are satisfactory in that they don't sound horrible. Dig.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
This guitar was set up very well where I bought it. The action was good, it felt nice, very easy to play. I don't imagine this was a factory set up, I think this guitar was set up in house by one of the shops guitar techs. I didn't notice any electrical issues with it, apart from the pickup being so high that it choaked when you pulled back on the trem, but that was no problem, we can set our own instruments up to our liking when we get home, and if you can't, you'd better learn. It's childs play.
Reliability/Durability
:9
The guitar is made out of wood, glue, nuts, and bolts. It won't come apart unless you bash the crap out of it, and if you do that, it's your fault. Here's a tip, don't gig without a clip lock strap or similar, just something so that the guitar is 100% secure, otherwise you're going to damage your guitar at some point, and that's no good, not when it can easily be avioded. Here's another tip, learn how to change strings properly, and how to maintain everything that your strings sit in, then you won't have problems with strings breaking. So, yes, you could use it without backup, but that is something you just don't do if you're a guitarist that gigs regularly.

Alright, this is the important part of my review. I've seen the very expensive Jackson Soloist guitars, the guitars that are #1800 etc, but HOLD ON A MINUTE, what's the BIG DIFFERENCE between? What difference warrents ANOTHER #1500? OK, the neck construction is EXACTLY the same, it has a scarf joint. The binding is EXACTLY the same in most cases, the woods are PROBABLY the same, because I can't tell, you can't tell, the guys who make the guitars know that, so why are they going to use more expensive maple for a neck, when they know they don't have to?
What do you get on a nice custom limited edition #1800 soloist that you don't get on this?
EMG 81 and 85, you don't get them, so how much is that? At trade prices, about #80 for both.
What else? A set or neck-through - this is a big difference, and it takes longer to make a neck like that, so let's add an extra #200 for good measure, but wait, it can't be that hard, since you can buy Ibanez through-neck guitars for #400, so I think I'm really over estimating.
What else? Chrome pickup rings, WOW. #10
What else? Normally, a gibson like pickup switch, instead of the switch you get on this guitar. #5
What else? In most cases, a paint finished neck, or finished in some nice glossy laquer that feels lovely, let's add an extra #40 for this, I think that's more than fair.
What else? A Floyd Rose tremolo, but HOLD ON A MINUTE, what is the difference between the that, and the one on this guitar which says Jackson on it. Take a look - Nothing, but let's add #40 again, for good measure.
What else? Sometimes a nice ebony board, so let's add #15 for that.
What else?
Umm
Umm
I can't really think of anything else, can you?
So, how much do we have added up now
Let's take the average price of this guitar #300, and add #390 to that makes #690, and that's including the profit for the guitar retailers for OUR guitar, so lets take that away and make it #590, now let's think realistically, they pump these out by the second on self operating CNC machines, and let's come to the conclusion that these guys pay next to nothing for all the parts, because they buy so many of them, so a nice figure for the #1800 soloist, it would probably work out at about #240 as a production cost, at a push, probably less. Now, we don't have a soloist, but if we did, we'd have payed a HUGE amount of money for a spiced up version of this guitar, and this guitar only costs #300 on average in the United Kingdom, so really, we've got one damn good deal on a very pleasent guitar, and if we buy any of what I just typed up, I think we'd be willing to give this a 10 without question. Dig.

DO NOT BUY THIS GUITAR WITHOUT TRYING IT. I made the mistake of buying this guitar from ebay because i fell in love with the look of it (black/shark fins...reverse headstock...it really does LOOK like a kickass guitar)...after playing the guitar i was really really disapointed! Playing this guitar has taught me to try guitars before buying them (individual guitars, not just the type)...with imports you may find a good one, but most are shitty quality which is sad.
It is not worth the ?500 or so that it RRP's at, NO WAY AT ALL!! For that you can get a secondhand gibson or epiphone which will blow this thing away.
After I got rid of this guitar I found an 80's BC rich warlock which was used and looked battered...I played it and WOW it is awesome so i bought it. And funnily enough it is an Import and had an EMG 81 installed in it. This thing cost me around ?150, half the price I paid for the DXMG and it is 10 times the guitar sound wise and playability (doesnt look as good...but who cares!).

It suits my musical styles very well which are primarily shred and metal. I usually play through a Marshall AVT 150 combo, which is solid state with a tube in the pre-amp section. It is suprisingly quiet on stage compared to the other guitars I have used. It has a wide spectrum of sound from a heavy crunch for metal, to a bright crisp jazz tone.

I think this instrument is good value for the price, which doesn't mean it is flawless. I've had this model for over a year. For one, the pickups will have too be changed eventually since the passive EMhz sound too muddy and not warm enough especially for playing rythm.
- The neck feels great and is fast. It is maple if memory serves me right.
- The pickup selector switch is real cheap (made of plastic) and will need to be changed. Buying a new switch cost me about 25$ can.
- The floyd on this guitar is of average quality: guitar needs to be re-tuned pretty often and, if it were not only for me using the whammy, I'll just block the mechanism and save myself problems. Nothing spectacular here. I might change it eventually for a genuine floyd rose (which is way more expensive too).

Most importantly, I think you should realise all the contraints that buying a black guitar will bring: fingerprints and dust are basically a problem that only constant polishing can save... it can get annoying...
Also, remember that, although this guitar is pretty cheap (for all its features and real cool look), though it needs maintenance and, eventually, upgrading. I find it doubtful that most buyers would want to keep for long the EMGhz...the pickup selector also caused me problems as it is cheap and made of plastic!!! (got another one made of metal)....
It looks good, feels good, but you'll end up paying much more than what you did in the long haul. Make sure you buy lots of guitar polish if you pick this one up!

I use this guitar to play metal for the most part (metallica, new sum41, pantera, etc..) The stock pickups were pretty decent, but they didn't have quite the punch I was looking for. I upgraded them to active EMG-81s. I play through a Line 6 Spider II amp. This guitar sounds great for soloing or for playing intense rythm riffs, although it lacks a little bottom end (alder/maple/emg81 does this). This is really no problem though, I'm just a bit picky. The cleans are really clean, and the harmonics are great. I give it a rating of 7 with the original pickups and 9 with the new ones.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
Everything was perfect from the factory, except for the action, which was a little to high for my tastes. I tend to like it lower than most people though, so that shouldn't be an issue. All it takes is a few turns of an allen wrench to lower it anyway. I didn't use the stock controls for long, so I don't know what quality they are. The finish was beautiful glossy black and didn't even have a finger smudge on it.

I've been playing for almost 3 years now. Aside from this, I own a Fernandes Ravelle Elite ($1,100 list) which has the traditional Les Paul neck feel to it. This guitar is nicer for playing leads and is more comfortable playing high up the fingerboard. I still love my Ravelle more though (they serve different purposes). When puchasing this guitar I compared it primarily with the ESP KH-202, which has all the same features. Its body is made of basswood though, which is not as nice as alder. For the price, this is the best metal/rock guitar on the market and with upgraded pickups it competes with $700-$800 guitars in terms of sound.

2002? 2003 model? not sure.
24 frets, nice inlays (sharkfin)
Came stock with EMG-HZ's, but i took them out after about a year and put in a Seymour duncan 59 in the neck, and a Duncan Dimebucker in the bridge. The dimebucker kicks ass!

I play metal. The emgs were ok, but the seymour duncans are a lot nicer. I play through a Mesa dual recto, and with this guitar, it sounds SICK!!!!(really good) I plug straight into the amp and use the amps drive. I used the guitar with one of my friends Line 6 Pod xt, and it worked out alright, but not as nice as the mesa.

2003 made in Japan. 24 frets with shark inlays. H/H EMG HZ. Alder body. Black finish. Soloist style body, floyd rose type bridge.
Gets a 7 cuz the floyd is pretty crappy compared to others and the HZ pickups suck balls! Other than this the rest is pretty good.

I use this guitar through a Peavey XXX. At first this guitar saounded like crap, EMG HZ's were muddy and not very hot. I got some Dimarzio's for christmas (super dist and paf pro) and noticed a huge difference. Awesome sound, great dist tone on the super dist and a very smooth tone from the paf pro.

I've been playing for five years. I own a Peavey XXX, marshall MG50dfx, ibanez rg 1570, ibanez rg 350, fender standard tele, fender standard strat, epiphone les paul, gibson faded v, muddy waters tele. What i love about this guitar is the quality, once again, it's very solid. What I hate? The crappy ass floyd and stock pick ups it came with. This guitar can be modified with some after market pickups of choice and an original floyd to kick some ass. Gets a nine because of the shitty stock emg's.

If have play this guitar on a Marhsall JCM2000-top and a POD 2.3 on my computer. It has quite, clear and well balanced tone and hot as hell! I didn't hear it with an EMG'81-pickup, but I can't imagen that it could sound a lot better than this. Of course in first place it is meant to be a metal-guitar, but I think it could also be just for pop and some blues-rock.

The only thing a can 'complain' about is that I think the input-jack must be replaced soon, because it is (already) making unwanted noises. I heard that the inside hardware is of less quality so maybe I have to replace that in the future, but still this guitar is of a very high standard.

One week later, same thing happen and the jack doesn't want to stay in place. Got it fixed again but after 5 month I still have this fucking problem. Then the floyd breaked so I cannot touch it because I'm getting out of tune. The finish really suck, you touch it, you scratch it!

just a quick note to add my two cents about the sound of this guitar. it appears most of the reviews on this guitar state that the emg hz's are terrible sounding pickups, or maginal at best. well, i want to encourage any prospective buyers to make their own decision on this. i feel i've got a fairly good ear for tone after 14 years of playing, and i've got to say that these pickups, used with the right amp and playing the right style music sound great. i play early 80's type christian metal.. think queensryche, stryper, dokken, priest, ect. i play this guitar and a usa charvel through a marshall jcm2000 dsl 100 head and 1960bv marshall cabinet with vintage 30 watt celestions. i had originally bought this jackson as a back up guitar to the charvel, but find myself really digging the vibe of this ax and giving it equal or greater playing time. they are very well made, great sounding guitars. they do metal or hard rock well.... i don't think i'd be playing much else as it's styling suggests. if you take the time to dial in a good quality amp with these pickups, the sound is not only useable, it's quite good. don't take the word of those who don't like these pickups for fact, see for yourself. the other guitarist in my band also has a dxmg. he plays with the stock emg's through a peavey xxx tube head and 4x12 cabinet and the sound is equally good. there is never anything wrong with upgrading to higher quality pickups, but don't overlook the tremendous value of this great little ax before you try one for yourself. it's a great sounding and playing guitar AS IS!!

The sound is a little muddy but for 420$ this is perfect:).I play it thru custom build marshall all valve amp and guess-it sounds BRUTAL.When tuned in D it has the perfect sound to me.I changed the pickups to EMG 81/60.THe 81 gives all the crunch and grind and the 60 are the best active pickups for melodic solos. It sounds good for instrumental rock ala Jason Becker but mostly a metal type guitar.I've had problems with the volume knob potentiometer but i replaced it and now its a killer.I give it a 9 because of the pickups.

You know what, if you want to know what this guitar has on it, go to Jackson's website or read the other reviews. For the price of the guitar and the style of music I play (REAL METAL), it has everything and then some!
Sound
:9
This guitar is probably the best sounding guitar I've ever played. I have owned and played everything from a cheap squire to a top of the line hand built custom made 7 string, and this guitar blows everything else away. It's got a nice dark sound on the bottom strings with a rich full lead sound on the top strings. It perfectly suits my style of music (death metal/thrash metal/old skool metal) and hasn't really come up short yet. My only real complaint is that the pickups aren't really that hot. I'm used to playing with active EMGs or very hot passive pickups (16+ kOhm output), and it's likely that I will put at the very least a new bridge pickup in this baby. Otherwise though, the guitar sounds badass, especially if you handle both rhythm and lead duties in your band.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
I bought this guitar as a blemish model from Musician's Friend, so it came all screwed up at first. But after about an hour of tweaking on it and putting on a new set of strings, I got this guitar dialed in to where I wanted it. Right now I've got the action set to around 1/16 of an inch with zero problems. The neck pocket is very well routed, and the neck is very sturdy. The tremolo can take tons of abuse and come back fighting. And the all black finish is just gorgeous. My only complaint is that the volume pot is a little bit scratchy. But since I very rarely use the volume pot, it's no big deal.
Reliability/Durability
:10
I haven't gigged with this guitar yet, but it seems very sturdy so I suspect no problems. The hardware seems very sturdy, and I'm sure it will last the life of the guitar. The only thing I'm sketchy about are the strap buttons. I'll most likely put some straploks on before gigging with this bad mofo. As far as gigging without a backup, you're a crack smoker if you ever do.

I've been playing for 7 years and this is the best guitar I've ever owned or played. I'm absolutely smitten with Jackson and this guitar and I'm probably going to buy another one for an alternate tuning. If this guitar were ever lost or stolen, I'd be pretty upset. But since I employ some amount of common sense, I've got insurance and it could be replaced. The compound radius fretboard combined with the thin neck are the best features of this guitar. I can literally fly up and down the neck with ease. It's SAVAGE! Only thing I wish it had was Jenna Jameson straddling it like she does the guitars on Jackson's website! :)

Its got all the sh*t!!!! if thats all the sh*t you want.
Sound
:9
I play metalcore, sludgecore and hardcore (hatebreed/crowbar/sick of it all/bio-hazard etc...). This guitar responds amazingly well to lower tunings due to the slightly longer scale length of 25.5" although not quite a baritone its almost as good. The sound through my mesa dual rectifier is awe inspiring, the tone is all there no muddiness or lack of balls. If your playing this guitar through a ten watt practice amp then your doing it no favours. Its sounds nice and smooth for jazz and blues, although lacks the "twang" for C&W, largely due to the fact its not a strat or a tele. The clean sound is thick and warm which sounds great with a tiny amount of chorus and a touch of reverb.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
The guitar came perfectly setup with the pickups at the right hieght. The neck routing was flawless with no over paint (thick at edges). Frets are polished to a mirror finish. The fingerboard was a tad dry but a quick going over with some lemon oil sorted it out. Overall plays as good as at gets in my opinion, plays a ton better than my gibbo SG thats for sure. Only difficulty was setting floyd up for 13-58 gauge strings.
Reliability/Durability

I gig twice a week and this guitar gets beaten something chronic. THe paints coming off everywhere but its been spanked by mike stands and cymbals and kicked accross stages (fans love it) I will again have to mention the fact that this guitar sounds AWESOME through my boogie at gigging levels. 100 watt boogie + the jackson tuned to B all the bottom end all the power, it rattles my balls!!! I am seriously considering buying another as backup for when i bust a string. Hasnt come off my strap yet, but i due use strap locks.

A Japan model... Well, standard features exactly. It came with EMG HZ H3 and a tremolo bar.
Bridge is a JT580 LP (double locking) and it stays very good in tune, almost perfectly. The only thing that was bothering for me, was the setting the proper intonation. Not only that I use lower tunings and so it is harder to get it in proper pitch, it was driving me mad loosening and tightening the string again and again and moving the saddle away from the neck.
Don't be fooled by your tuner! If you want to sharpen your string, then move the saddle towards the neck. If you want to flatten it, move it away! Adn remember: don't take minimal distances because the tune won't move a shit.
Why 7? Because of those silly pickups and electronics.
Sound
:10
I play mainly rough riffs (something you would call metal, but I just love to experiment and play with crispy distortion of my Boss MT-2).
I'm doing mainly ambiental music and it's PERFECT for distorted leads over an acoustic background. It has also much sustain.
And why? Because I sold those HZ's and bought 2x81's. The sound change was in first minimal, but reducing gain and turining off my brights on amplifier (remember: keep away from bright switches. They will only drive you crazy when recording. Put the amp into the ear heigh and then you'll get the right tone of it). EMG 81 are crunchy and crispy. They hum, that's true, but every pickup with high output hums when setting gain to 10. And that is, OF COURSE, very very very stupid. Punks that are playing in boy bands, reduce your gain to 5 or 6, maybe 7 and volume your amp up. You won't believe it, what your baby can do with so little gain! The key is in the volume and pickups.
The sound is... I cannot describe it easy. The sound is just the sound... It is very whole and full... This is the sound that can be called A SOUND.
There was a thing that I didn't like it, but I get used to it. It was when I palm-muted some notes, I was pushing down the bridge, so the tuning went sharper or flatten. Not a pretty thing to hear but with a little practice you can tell your arm to stop bitching around with bridge. Because a guitar bridge is like a woman - you're touching it gently and on right spots, not just everywhere!
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
Damn, action was pretty and finish also. When the guitar arrived to the shop (yeah, three weeks after my order... three weeks of pure suffering and mental pain) I just knew it is perfect for me the first time I grabbed it and played.
Honestly, first few days I didn't recognize a difference, but when I realized that my elbows don't hurt and burn me anymore, even though I was warming up my hands, that this is the best guitar I have every played. And not just only because of the sound, because 81s have their own specific sound no matter what brand the guitar is, but because of its ergonomical shape and very light feel.
Yes, strings were oxidized, but I replaced them with my favourite, Blue Steel Med.
Why a 9? Because even though the guitar was set nicely, it needed some tweaks before being in the state like today.
Reliability/Durability
:10
Sure, it is a beast. Don't get me wrong. Some thing that this is only a mettall guitar, but this is just bullshit. It is allaround guitar. The key of purpose of need is in the amp settings and effects you use.
For now, the finish seems to be of very high quality.
Probably I would use it without a backup, but the only thing I hate about floyds are string changing... In this case the backup is badly needed. But for everything else on the guitar I would depend on it 100 %.

I play for 7 years now. I use Laney TF300 and Boss MT-2 analog distortion. Everything else I need is on the amp. I'm looking forward to buy some analog flanger and compressor, probably from Boss.
The price was silly, because it actually costs (in Slovenia and Germany) 220.000 SIT ($1160) but they mispelled the Slovene price and written 120.000 SIT ($640) price. Weird, huh? Like black marked. I guess I'm just lucky.
If stolen I would probably kill the robber and his whole family, including his distant relatives. I would uproot his tribe and put his eyes into his gut to see what shit he deserves for stealing my precious DXMG.
I'm warning you! When it comes to my girlfriend or DXMG, I always get aggressive. :)

The usual features, as many have listed;
Made in Japan,
24 frets (with XJ fretwire),
Mother of pearl sharkfin inlays,
Volume and tone knobs with 3-way selector,
EMG-HZ passive pickups (don't know if they are H4 model),
Superstrat with reversed 'jackson' headstock,
white binding on the fretboard and headstock,
Black finish with 'natural' neck,
Jackson made double locking Floyd rose licenced tremolo system,
Jackson made tuners.
I would give it 10 as these were the features I wanted, but to be unbias...
Sound
:8
I play true Metal, from Iron Maiden to Slayer, Black Sabbath to early Metallica, etc. I wanted pickups made by a respectable name, not cheap rip off's that are made by the people who make the guitars.
EMG are very respectable, and for passive pick-ups, the sound is pure evil! They can be muddy, but that is down to my current amp (Kustom KGA-10, getting a Marshall or Laney soon... I hope.). Perfect for overdriven distortion, good for clean natural sounds.
I think my rating is respectable...
Action, Fit, & Finish
:8
The action was extremely high (about 3-4 16ths of an inch on the 12th fret!) when I opened the box, so I had to lower it to my level (about 2 16ths). I had to lower my pickups because I lowered my action. The neck is thin, so you can play very fast (which is good for me as I claim to be the fastest player in my school).
The guitar is a fair weight (about 5kg), not too heavy not to light...
There were no scratches on the paint work, but I noticed that the headstock is glued to the main neck (just under the 1st fret), which concerned me a bit. But the way it's done, it's been done in the factory. The nut has the problem of being slightly too small for the clamps, but if you do them up tight enough (on the 6/5th string clamp) the guitar will stay in perfect tune.
I want to give it a 9 but the problems bring it down a bit.
Reliability/Durability

Haven't broken it yet. Still feels great, no grazes yet, and I've whacked it a few times.
If I was in a band, this would withstand, all the stage could throw at it.

I've been playing 4 years, and I've gone from the cheap and chearful (but good for beginners) Encore to this metal monster. I've played other peoples guitars and this is just mind blowing compaired... They even say that the guitar is better.
If someone stole it, I'd kill them!
"Anything you wish it had?"
Well, EMG 81 active pickups, neck-thru, 100% real genuine Floyd, maybe a Kahler Pro.

Black DXMG,24 jumbo frets, rosewood board, alder body with maple bolt on neck, reverse headstock, 2 EMG-HZ passive pickups, one tone and one volume control with a Floyd (licensed)locking trem. Think its a 2003 though I've not actually pulled the neck to verify.

I play mostly 80's type metal with a little southern rock thrown in here and there. Just recently got back into playing after laying it down about 16 yrs. I'm in no way an accomplished musician but I have played enough to know total crap from a decent guitar. With my limited funds I am making due with a crate gxl-30 through a boss ds-1.
This is a fantastic guitar for someone who, like me, has to make due for the time. While nothing beats some top grade emg's or sd's the pickups aren't that bad. I get a great sound through the clean channel even with my cheesy amp. The distortion isn't awful but does tend to be somewhat muddy expectually on anything other than the bridge pickup alone. For a mid to low end guitar this thing does metal well though I'd like to dump the HZ's for an active set of EMG's. Except for looking way out of place I see no reason why this guitar wouldn't be viable for country or blues.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
I can honestly say this thing was set up "nearly perfect". The action was low with no fret buzz whatesoever. The pickups did need to be raised just a tad but no big. The body was finished absolutely beautiful except for one pinhead size protrusion just below the upper strap button so it's not even noticible. I love the feel of the neck, thin, not too thin with a wide fingerboard and raw neck. Very fast, shame I'm not.

Can't comment on gigging since I don't play in a band but hardware seems sturdy, stays in tune great though I don't use the trem a whole lot. I've had the thing about 6 months and have tried to baby but it does seem the clearcoat is subceptable to minor scratching

I also own a g&l sc-3 which is an awesome guitar. This is a fantastic guitar for the $$ with alot of potential,i.e change pickups. Playability wise it easily rivals some of the American strats, les pauls and other over priced guitars on the market.

My Jackson DXMG is a 2003 Japanese model. As you know, it has 24 extra jumbo frets, a black solid top, one volume knob, one tone knob and an H-H pickup setup. It has dual EMG HZ's which are wonderful to me. Pinch harmonics sound muddy though, I would prefer EMG 81/85's.
The guitar has alder for the body and maple for the FAST shredding neck. The neck is in the natural maple colour, not black and the fretboard is so smooth it feels like you're playing on the strings instead of the fretboard!!
The licensed Floyd Rose bridge holds tuning really well. It is a big pain for the first time though, because I changed string gauges and for your information, the strings strung on the guitar are Gauge 9 to 42. I use Gauge 10's so I had to re-setup the bridge. Really worth it in my opinion, but if you don't need the whammy bar... just go get a tune-o-matic.
I would prefer two tone knobs though, so this section doesn't get a perfect 10.
Sound
:8
The Jackson DXMG is a perfect Hard Rock/Metal guitar. I can't stress this enough... this is one of the greatest Metal guitars for the price!! The pickups can really scream and the harmonics rock. Pinch harmonics will sound muddy and weak though.
I use this through a Zoom 606 plugged into a Marshall 15 watt amp. The Zoom gives an extra boost for my poor Marshall amp. I'm really satisfied.
It doesn't sound noisy at all, but maybe unless you turn the volume HIGH and turn the gain FULL. No complaints on this.
The neck pickup really sounds full and heavy. Excellent for heavy rhythms. I play lead and it is also a very good lead guitar. The guitar isn't too good for some slow Rock music though. It's alright for some pop and slow songs where you only strum basic chords.
I love the sound this guitar can make a lot. I'm gonna put in EMG ZW's (81/85) one day!
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
The guitar was very well set-up. The action is low and yet no fret buzz for Gauge 9's. You might get fret buzz if you change string gauges and then you'll have to re-setup. It's soooo easy to reach the 24th fret and press down. But I gotta admit that the bolt-on makes it hard to the Low E and A strings' 24th frets.
Nothing special here. The guitar came awesome with no flaws and stuff.
Reliability/Durability
:10
The guitar can be used live for rhythm guitarists I guess. The whole guitar looks solid and the finish doesn't look like it would wear off. The strap buttons are really solid and big and the straps will never come off accidentally!!!
I will definitely use this on a gig without a backup. A backup would be sweet but as long as I use Gauge 10's, I won't ever need to worry about breaking strings. The guitar holds tuning so well I don't even have to care about retuning after each song!

I've been playing for more than a year on my stupid TGM Strat guitar. It's not a famous guitar and it sucks a lot. It's a sweet beginner's guitar though and I was soooo pleased with my Jackson DXMG.
If it was stolen or lost, I wouldn't get this again I guess. Guitars will get old to you after playing it for a while (but that doesn't mean you'll dislike it after a while) so I guess I'll probably get other more expensive and high-end guitars. But I'll definitely stay with Jackson!!!
I love everything about this guitar. I just dislike the lack of another tone knob (ain't really that important) and the bolt-on makes it hard to reach the 24th frets of the E and A strings. No real problem though.
I compared it to the ESP LTD KH-202 signature guitar. I wanted it at first but noticed that you're actually paying for the signature instead of the guitar for that KH-202 so I went for the Jackson DXMG and never regretted since! The DXMG also has better looking inlays and you're actually not playing someone else's guitar!
Be sure to get ready to mess with the Floyd Rose if you're getting this guitar. DO NOT get this if you're gonna play in all sorts of tunings. This is one of the major problems for me. But now I play all the other tunings on my TGM Strat with my DXMG on Eb, which is the tuning I play on the most.
If you're gonna play many other kinds of tunings, look into a Schecter, they are good tune-o-matics.
This guitar is DEFINITELY worth the price. Feel free to contact me if you wish to know anything more about the Jackson DXMG.

I like the sound a lot. I play classic metal...maiden, metallica, iced earth- good shit like that. I play through a cheap crate 15w practice amp, but it sounds real nice. Eventually gonna put the emg zakk wylde set in. My brother has an american sl-2h which has duncans. Those sound better, but the hz's can still get any metal sound u want with ease.

Action set up perfect, as low as can be w/out fret buz. Pickups nice, finish nice, shows fingerprints a lot cuz its black, but looks bad ass. Floyd rose license works very nicely, always stays in tune. Has the fastest neck ive ever played on, faster than my brothers soloist.

This guitar is built like a tank, will withstand anything u can give it. However, a week after i got it the volume pot went bad, guitar tech replaced that and the tone pot, said they were cheap japenese ones. From what i've read, thats happened to lots of people. Solid strap buttons, it won't fall off anywhere.

First off, i am doing an update. its a japanese alder bodied guitar with licensed floyd rose tremelo, PASSIVE emg hz pickups, 24 fret rosewood fret board bound to a maple bolt on 25.5" neck that is faster than any other neck i have played, 1 volume, 1 tone, and a 3-way sliding p/up selector. i figure you should know what it looks like considering it only comes in 1 color, gloss black with sharkfin inlays and reversed headstock. its all amazing except for the trem, it has given me alot of problems, as to be expected from any trem (especially the locking 1s) and some 1 who does all the work on thier instrument and may not be the most careful with it. i tune to Eb standard with .010-46 strings. it would get higher if it had active pickups (i erally like the duncan live wire clasics or an emg 81/85 setup) and a fixed string-thru bridge
Sound
:9
it suits my music styles well. i play what could be called progressive black metal, it covers a wide range of musical styles and influences primarily in very minor progressions, and just because it says metal, it doesnt mean every thing has more gain than bill gates pay check, i use ALOT of clean as well. i use it straight into a crate blue voodoo 60 watt al tube. is decently quiet but does feedback like all passive guitars when its too loud and your standing near and facing the amp, especially on distortion. it has a very nice blues, jazz, general rock, neoclassical, and of course metal sounds. it is very versatile, and can be used for waht ever you may want. i think maybe that the p/ups could be a lil higher output, but not too much more or it would loose its versatality. i like how the trem can bomb to touching the body either way and you will still be in tune once you get it in tune and lock it down (you must make sure you are in tune before you lock down, this can take several times going through, and it will get out slightly when you lock, but thats what the fine tuners are for) it will make almost any soud you want, except for single coil high pitched non defined twang.but i hate single coils so jut make the pick ups active, maybe switch that tone knob to a gain booster like on the dkmg and dkmgt models and it would ahve all the sounds i would need and want.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
i bought it used orriginally so i made all my adjustments. im constantly changing my p/up heights and such for experimentation of sound. the action is really low, infact before i put the 10s on it was too low and i had fret buzz all over on the bottom e string till like the 5th fret. but alas it was a used purchase. other than that the only things wrong with it are my fault. neck is oil finished so it slids well all the timethe thing is durable as a mother, i have dropped it and banged it into countless thingsand it still looks like the day i got it, but with some more finger prints (its a finger print magnet thanks to the gloss black finish)it only gets the 9 because nothing is truely perfect and i did have to make some adjustments
Reliability/Durability
:9
as i said above it is durable as can be, every thing is holding up very well. better than expected i must say. i dont beat on my guitars but i am a clutz. live play is no problem except for the lack of bridge stablity. hard wear last well if you are decent to it. finish is amazing. the buttons work very well, and they are huge, i have trouble getting my strap on and off at all. it very dependable and very solid, and quite gig worthy, except for the trem.

This guitar is more than worth the money that I paid for it. The options are typical to a Jackson or any guitar used for more heavy metal playing. Everything is to the point, no extra crap to get in the way. My musical style is true Thrash metal (how it used to be) and this guitar is absolutely perfect for it. I had to put in the EMG-ZW pickups (EMG-85 neck, EMG-81 bridge) to give it the sound I was looking for. Man does it ever sound like one mean mother now! Though the HZ's are good pickups for the price, they just weren't cutting it. With these pickups the guitar is completely silent. These pickups give this guitar any variety of music to be dependent on the type of amp and setup you have. It would look funny at a country gig, but with a Fender Twin and a little knob adjusting, it would have no problem.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:8
The guitar needed a little adjusting for the action to be a little lower, but I enjoy doing that stuff. The pickups were adjusted as good as they could get. The only thing that sucked about this guitar(though from reading these posts I was aware of the problem) was the volume pot only lasted about two months and the tone about 4 months. Though I figured this was going to happen I replaced them with the EMG-ZW pots that came with the set (purchased seperately)no problem.
Reliability/Durability
:10
I bought this guitar for live playing because it didn't cost that much and I knew that Jackson's are workhorses. I would gig with this guitar without a backup as long as I had an extra set of stings (Floyd Rose happy). As for the finish, the quicker that I beat the hell out of this guitar, the sooner that it builds the character it needs. Guitars are made for playing, not staring at.

I also have a Gibson Explorer that kicks all ass, but this guitar actually compares (on the dirty channel). If it were stolen I would look for other comparable guitars since everyone has raised the price on this bad boy now to about 449.00. Though I still don't think I could have found anything even close to the value of this guitar for the price that I paid.

Black, only way it comes. Licensed Floyd, which i think i killed...sniff...excellent neck, thin great finish on it, oil not gloss doesn't get sticky when your hand sweats on it, and FAST AS HELL. Included accesories....uhh, the whammy bar?

I don't play anything after 1990, excepting some Metallica (long live 80's metal and Led Zeppelin) i use a Digitech Metal Master Distortion for the heavier stuff, and my amp (Fender Hot Rod Deluxe) works fine for led zep tone (live led zep; i'm not into fuzz.) The stock pickups drove me nuts (too much bass, WAAAAY too compressed, decent stock actually, but i hate them;i got some EMG's and dumped these on a novice;he loves 'em. Better pickups make a WORLD of difference, with an EMG 85 in the neck its got excellent blues tone, and nothing beats and 81's bridge distortion (very full). Very full sound, but i can't attribute this to the wood AS I DON"T KNOW WHAT IT IS!! A lot of people think its a one-trick pony, just a metal guitar. This is what its best at, but i use it for EVERYTHING (except nu-metal...I play MUSIC!) 'Course, i really don't have any other choice...no $$$, but it works very well. I wouldn't think of playing it clean with the stock pickups, however, i'd make a huge investment and get a Squier Strat. But with me EMG's I like it more than the $1700 Hammet Signature model, which is a similar guitar. 9 for the shit HZs, but if it came with better pickups, it would've easily been a 10
Action, Fit, & Finish

Excellent. Of course it wasn't perfect from the factory...i got it in the middle of a snowstorm (Michigan rocks!). However, i don't know why all you whiners have to go running to your guitar techs every time something needs adjusting. All you need is an allen wrench and patience. The only thing i won't do myself is intonation, but that's because its decent enough...hehe, kids don't have an ear for tuning, every one i go to says its fine, and if you're audience says its fine, its fine. Anywho...the neck is HEAVEN! its got a most excellent raw oil finish...ahhh its wonderful. Plays EXTREMELY fast...lets me play faster then anyone i know...hmm, maybe i need better company..the only guitarists i know are punk-rockers, and they ain't got no chops. The frets are huge, and easily let you bend two steps if you're strings can handle it. Who cares how well the pickups are adjusted? Do it yourself, lazy asses!

Easily takes anything i so to it. The bridge is gonna die, with what i put it through, but that's my fault, i'll just get a real Floyd. Don't care about the finish, as long as the neck is good, but it seems tough. Very large strap buttons; no need for locks. As for a backup...can't afford one, but i don't need it anyway.

Only been playing two years, but i've been around music all my life (i've played violin since i was three...what does that make...13 years?). I would take a previous reviewer's advice about what to do if it was stolen...buy another and beat the thief, so as to have two of them. Very sensible. There's no need to buy something more expensive, unless you have a pet peeve about japan-made guitars...hey sushi is excellent, so i trust them with anything. If you need an American built guitar, i suggest having the Jackson custom shop build you a DXMG. The thing i love best is the neck. Very smooth, very natural feeling. I don't care if it's a bolt-on, lemme tell you, the only way i would get a set neck or a neck-through is if i beat the idea into the luthier that i wanted the exact neck finish of a DXMG, honestly, i don't know how people can stand gloss necks. Least favorite feature? Those God-damned EMG-HZs! Give 'em to a kid with a crappy Ibanez, i'll admit, they are better that Ibanez stocks, but nothing compares with active EMG's. Don't ignore me because i haven't been playing twenty years...i've gotten plenty of compliments from people that experienced, and yes, most kids that have only played a year are horrible...i know a lot of them. Oh, don't buy this guitar for nu-metal or punk, its a waste. This thing is meant for out-of-control shredding, and if you don't do at least some shredding, or at least decent soloing, go play an acoustic, as that is what acoustics are for, electrics are for shredding. 9 for shit pickups, other wise, Paul Reed Smith can kiss my ass

first off this guitar PLAYS amazing , it's well worth the money , but the emg hz's suck nuts , by far the worst sounding pickups i've heard , so i ripped the quad rail out of my kramer vanguard and put it in the bridge position ( the quad rail isnt the best in the world either but it blows the emg away.)now it plays and sounds amazing.I play it through a randall RH100 head into a crate cab , with an asortment of effects.the guitar has a really great tone , it's just hidden behing the emgs .i'll give this guitar a 6 with the emgs and a 9 with anything else.

the action was nice and low when i go it , but i lowered it some more to see if it could take it before it started buzzing , but i hardly buzzes and the action is really low .the finish was perfect , like a black mirror , not a scratch or chip on it.it was set up pretty good , i had to adjust the intonation on it but aside from that it was great.

The EMG-HZ are like made for my kind of music, the Finnish metal. They have a warm, yet screaming sound with distortion (even on my old Peavey Bandit), and the clean sounds work very nicely. The EMGs produce a nice long sustain too. This guitar is made for metal primarly, but does well with many different styles. You could even play it on a country gig.

The guitar is set up nicely, but the .009 string set is a bit too small for me. I've had the guitar for so short period of tome, that I haven't changed the strings yet, but I'm gonna take 'em up to .010.
The pick-ups are set very well. No room for bithcing here. Every detail is just so goodly done that it makes me shiver. Even the Floyd Rose works nicely.

This guitar is crying to get on stage. It's very solidly put together, and will withstand live playing without a doubt.
Of course, with Floyd Rose, you should have a back up when on stage.
Another Jackson without a doubt.

I've played for 5 yrs. I own a Jackson PS3T, and this guitar beats it hands down, even though the PS3T is a great guitar! I compared this guitar to Telecasters, Stratocasters, ESPs and other great Jacksons, but this one pulled the longest straw with best price/quality ratio. It wins many more expensive guitars, like the Fenders I tested. Now that I own two Jacksons, it's maybe time for something else next. Maybe a Ibanez or ESP. But I always need to own at least one Jackson, couse they are the greatest.
I can't point out what I love the most about this guitar, because everything is so great. Maybe the best feature is the EMG pickups.
If it was stolen, I'd definitely get another one just like this. Definitely a Jackson. I'd like to give 10, but when I some day order a Jackson from the custom shop, it'll deserve 10, so this gets 9.

Dont yet know the year it was made, but i know it was made in japan.
Its a 24 fret shred or metal guitar. Poplar body with maple bolt on neck and a rosewood fingerboard. 1 volume and 1 tone control. 3 way selector for the 2 EMG passive pickups. Got a licensed floyd rose bridge with 2 locking trems. It has nice jumbo frets.
Sound
:8
The pickups are good, but not to my taste, i wanted a nice warm sound, which these pickups arent, but if your looking for raw power then look no further. I play rock/heavy metal no crappy nu metal here. the clean sound is amazing i was playing it through a Marshall AVT100 combo.
Action, Fit, & Finish

I brought the last one they had on the self, they gave me a small discount for that, so the setup wasnt perfect. no problems with this guitar, only one minor point the pickups seems to be raised to far up, you may want to lower these depending on how and where you pick.

i have been playing for over 3 years, i own a yamaha pacifica 112m which has been heavely modified. If it were lost or stolen i'd try to find the git who took it and deal with them but wouldnt get the same again just save up and get a better one than it, lets face it its good but not among the best guitars ever made.
one more thing i actually tried this guitar twice to convince myself that it was good even though the sales people were telling me to go for it. i had a look at a few ibanez but they were more or less the same sort.
all in all a great second or third guitar, well was third for me cos my first guitar was CRAP.

I absolutely LOVE this guitar! I will have this until the day I die. It sounds and plays perfectly. I wasn't crazy about the EMG's when I got it, so they were replaced with a Seymour Duncan Distortion pickup in the bridge and some cheap no-name neck pickup that I had laying around in my parts box. I play through a Digitech RP50 and a Marshall Lead 12. This thing screams! I get great low end and the highs are perfect.
Action, Fit, & Finish

When I got it, everything was set up perfect. The only thing I had to do was tune it up.
I did have a problem with the volume pot being in my way, I was always hitting it when I was playing. So I stuffed the useless tone knob into the cavity, and moved the volume pot to where the tone pot was.

I truly believe that this axe will last forever! It seems really well built. The finish seems to hold up really well, it only has a couple of small scratches (to be expected with a black guitar). I don't play in a band (unfortunately), so I don't play out. If I did, I would never play without a backup, especially if I'm using a Floyd Rose equipped guitar.

If it was stolen or lost it would be replaced without question. I love everything about this guitar and hate nothing. Favorite feature? Hmmmm...the great playability, the way it sounds, or it's good looks - too hard to answer that one! If you are thinking about buying one, I would recomend it! It's a great guitar for the money!

The sound is awsome. Before, i had a cheap epi les paul piece of shit, but then i saved up and got this. I still cant believe the playability of it. I use this with a Crybaby, Ada mp-1 pre amp, Marshall 8008 valvestate power amp, and an Avatar 4x12 cab. I play mostly heavy metal with it, metallica, slayer, ozzy type stuff. But, i can get a great clean sound out of it.

i got it used, so im not sure what year it is, thus im not sure where it is made. the emgs are passive but they are still better than 99.9% of passive pickups out there. double locking licensed floyd rose. amazingly thin neck that makes playing any thing easier and faster. inverted headstock. only things i would change would be some active emgs but it would be a different price range then
Sound
:9
gorgeous sound for the price. i play a wide variety of things in my spare time (blues, punk, metal, rock, clasical, emo, hardcore) and im in a metal band. good sound with or without distortion. makes my amp (fender 50 watt some thing or other) sound alot better, and my practice amp (generic 9 volt 2.5" speaker) too. i get little fret buzz some times, but its not bad. good sustain w/ rich sound. neck pick up is mud free aswell
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
since i didnt get the guitar new i cant say on how things would be factory. there are no flaws, dents, or scratchs in the finish. i did drop it once on accident and it didnt do a thing to it. the few things that were wrong with it were preference choices like pickup height so it was no big deal.

ok first thing i have to say is this thing is a mid weight but it holds up like a tank. the finish is still in perfect condition after first owner, being on the floor of a busy shop and now me. the strap buttons are huge, no problems there. hardware is good and solid witha good finish. if it didnt have a trem i would definately gig w/o a back up, but it does so i dont quite trust me and the strings bc i always break them at the worst time.

i havent been playing long a little over a year or so. i was playing a really crappy strat ripoff before this. i run it through a fender 50 watt solid state (studio lead i belive, im too lazy to check) and an ibanez smash box pedal. if it were stolen or lost i would kill the person who took/lost it cuz i know i wouldnt and use the money/credit card/whatever other form of currency i could find on them to buy me a new one and take the old one back (if stolen) i love the neck on its really thin and flat w/ a wide nut. im not a fan of where they put the volume knob cuz i tend to whack it but i havent found a guitar i dont do that with. i was also thinking about buying a few different guitars when i chose this out of them all. epiphone lp or sg, ibanez s series or rg series and a few b.c. rich guitars. this just had the best balance feel and it sounded really really amazing for the price.

I believe mine was made in 2000...Japan, probably. 24 frets, solid black top, black being the only color option you can have. It comes with two EMG-HZ. It seems like everyone else loves them, but frankly I hate them. They have a sterile sound, too much bass, and for being EMG's, low output. The body is standard poplar, and the neck is a nice maple, with the back being unfinished for great speed licks. The cutaway is nice, but I have to stretch a bit to reach the 24th fret.
The floyd-rose bridge is decent, but not perfect. I find it does go out of tune when I use it fairly heavily.
Sound
:10
This guitar is incredibly for the price. I love it! Even though I'm unhappy with those stock EMG's, it still sounds fantastic with them. I changed them for a Seymour Duncan JB and a 59 and now it's an amazing guitar. I've heard $2,000 guitars that don't sound or play this nicely, no joke. It's fairly noisy, but that has more to do with my shitty crate than with the guitar. It's dead silent when plugged into a little Marshall MG combo. The sound is very full...pretty bassy, though.
It's a pretty versatile guitar, although it doesn't really look good for any style other than metal, which is Jackson's core audience. Of course, having this guitar, I play metal too. Iron Maiden and Metallica are about as heavy as I get, though, so I obviously don't need the EMG's...(I know Metallica uses 'em, but I just don't like them)
Anyway, take a look at this guitar. It plays and sounds better than any guitar in its price range.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
The guitar set-up from the factory was almost perfect, but the action was a little high. I lowered it a bit, slapped on some new strings, oiled the fretboard, and lowered the neck pickup's height. It was way too strong, and would overdrive my clean channel at low volumes. Pretty good, though, for the price. I've seen worse jobs for more money. Playability, of course, is what Jackson is famous for. Ever heard the term "super-strat"? This means all of these guitars that take the strat-shape and improve sound and playability. It was coined in the 80's to talk about Jackson's, Charvel's, and B.C. Rich's, among others. Anyway, if you play any kind of fast music, you can't go wrong with a Jackson. You will be able to play much faster than you could with any other kind of guitar.
If you play nu-metal, I would not reccomend getting a DXMG, because it's made for more of speed runs, and it'll be hard to drop tune with the floyd-rose. Look into some of the other Jackson models that have string-thru bridges.
Reliability/Durability
:6
This is where I must actually NOT give a 10 to a Jackson...first, the volume and tone knob fell off of my guitar, and I had to screw them back son...then the tone knob fell off again...then the floyd rose bridge came loose and I had to tighten the springs...then the toggle switch came loose, and I had to re-screw that...then both of the Volume and Tone pots went bad, and touching either knob caused it to cut out completely, so that I had to spend several minutes shaking/tapping the knobs to get any sound out.
For the money I paid, I expected to have a few problems, but all of these surprised me. I must've gotten a little bit unlucky, because most people don't have so many problems. Still, though, I had them so I'm giving a 6.

This is a great guitar, and if you like hearing people play FAST, I reccomend you check it out. It's great for the person who wants a Jackson soloist, but doesn't want to pay big prices. It doesn't even seem like a budget guitar to me, it seems like a genuinely GREAT guitar. Of course, a custom shop V would be a lot nicer, but I doubt anything will happen anytime soon. They aren't cheap!
...but I digress. Play this guitar, and you won't regret it.

I play progressive metal(imagine putting Metallica, System of a Down, Dream Theater, Creed, TSO and Steve Vai in a pot and stirring them together, then you'd have me). I run it Guitar > Boss GT-6(great pedal) > Amp and it is amazing. I love the sound of it, the floyd stays in tune really well. Its very quiet, too. It has a nice shimmering clean tone as well. The Jackson DXMG I purchsed is a 2001 and was made in Japan. It has the 24 Jumbo frets, 3 way switch, 1 volume, 1 tone. The one thing I like about is the EMG HZ's. In my opinion they are good pickups for the price. The body is Alder. Black in Appearance. I purchased my DXMG from Musician's Friend (Merry xmas to me) and bought a Line 6 Spider amp with the floorboard and I think it sounds great. When I first saw it the color and finish is what caught my attention. The sharkin inlays and the reverse headstock give the METAL look. In my opinion it was well worth the money. It comes with a floyd-rose licensed tremolo, no problem diving and staying in tune for me.
Sound
:8
I have only been playing for a year. Mostly play Metallica/Slayer/Slipknot. The sound with my Line 6 sounds good for chunking. My amp has the Overdrive but I think it does not have the distortion I am looking for. I have placed a Digitech Metal Master stompbox on layaway, can't wait to plug it in soon. The guitar is very quiet. I can place the amp at 8 or 9 and very very quiet. I don't play much lead biut when I try the sounds seems a little dull. The passive pickups could probably be replaced with active. I am planning on upgrading mine to dual EMG 81's and go from there. Any comments please feel free to email.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The neck is very flat. I love it! The fretboard is rosewood which is what I prefer and no problem running up or down the board. When I took out of the box I plugged it in, took two tune ups and has been playing since. I have only replaced the strings once with D'Addrio's 9-42's and it sounds great.

At the moment I practice and hopefully will play live. I think this guyiatr has the reliablity to be my mostly used guitar on a set. I bought this guitar in June 2002 from musicians friend. Its solid black, reverse head stock, 24 XJ frets with pearloid sharkfin inlays which look sweet as hell. It has 2 EMG-HZ3's which also kick ass. Strat style body, with contours at the top so its a little more comfy. Floyd Rose license tremolo keeps this baby well in tune. The neck on this damn guitar is so slim its unbelievable. I've played all kinds of guitars and by far the neck on my DXMG has been the thinnest and easiest to play. The neck on my friends new Gibson Gothic Flying V is ass compared to this one.

I play rock. Most any kinds but more Nirvana and stuff, along with some pantera and shit. The EMGs make that stuff sound great, and give it a little more bottom end compared to other pickups. This guitar will freakin HOWL if you do it right. I run it through a Boss DS1 and by god this guitar will rock your socks off. The clean tones are good too, but like i said the EMGs give it a kind of lower sound.

When i saw this guitar I was in awe. It came out of the box perfect. The solid black and reverse headstock gives the guitar a dark look. It has the look of the perfect metal guitar. The action is effortless and you can jam out all the way to the 24th fret.

2001 DXMG. Same features as those noted in the reviews below.
The DXMG loses 3 points because the sweep of the tone knob isn't as wide as other guitars, including other Jackson Dinkys. The volume knob is also poorly placed. If you play high-speed riffs where you alternate between heavy palm mutes at the bridge and hard accents on high strings, you'll invariably roll the knob back.
Sound
:5
The EMG HZ's are made exclusively for Jackson and ESP guitars. While they're better pick-ups than the stocks you'll find on comperably-priced BC Rich and Ibanez axes, they lack a good tone for metal. They are very trebly, somewhat microphonic, and EXCESSIVELY compressed--and I don't mean in a good way. Thrash metal requires synchopated accents to sound right, but the HZs compress everything to relatively the same volume, taking some of the balls out of killer riffs. Some people have said they "scream" and that they're "hot," but they put out about 3/4's the output of my Schecter C-1 Elite's stock Duncan Designs.
Next purchase.....real EMGs.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
The factory set-up was okay. The action was perfect, but the guitar was tuned to standard with 9's. I dropped the tuning to a Slaytanic Eb and strung it with 11's.
The DXMG's finish is flawless and is tough. The neck has a great feel--I love it. This guitar begs you to play harder, louder, and faster.
The Licensed Floyd isn't as quality as the real deal, but it does hold its tuning pretty well. I dive bomb without worries.

The DXMG is a great intermediate guitar that will give anything in its price range solid competition. It is a thrasher's guitar. The novelty of the HZs will wear thin quickly, however, so start saving for your active EMGs.
The DXMG plays second string to my Schecter, but if i really want to thrash, I can trust Jackson.
