I gave this category an 8 due to the fact that it doesn't have anything new, just the good old basics. It DOES, however, have a beautiful finish. I have a limited production run model, DXMGT-SP HT. It has a great transparent red finish. It has a pretty much standard body, strat style with extra deep cutouts. It has a Tune-O-Matic bridge. It has Jackson tuners, they work pretty well except for the G string, i have had some issues with it. You have to tune it up, bend the G string, and then repeat until it has decided to stay put. It has a great neck. 24 jumbo frets. It has a bound rosewood fretboard. Unfortunately, it was made in Japan. It has 2 EMG-HZ 4 pickups.

My musical style is METAL. I'm playing through an ancient solid state amp. I'm using a Digitech RP100, a BOSS-MT2 Metal Zone, and a Danelectro Black Coffee (distortion). I'm a bridge pickup guy so I don't like to use the bridge and neck at the same time. When I do it tends to get a bit muddy. But independently the pickups rock! This guitar can play anything. Despite what others say about EMG pickups, I think they have a great clean sound. Because of the added gain from the pickups, it has a tiny bit of a twang to it, making it sound more like a natural acoustic. Depending on what strings you use, you may have a rich full sound, bright sound, anything.

I truly believe this is one of the best guitars out there for the value.I've played everything out there( and I mean EVERYTHING)and this is very comparable. From the finish to the hardware, each item holds it's own very well.Right out of the box it rocked. But I did modify each of them with a 5 way super switch and coil tap switches, and upgraded the EMG HZ3' to HZ4 and HZ4A respectively for better tone. Also took it to my luthier for a fret dress and level, put a real nice grind to the frets and lowered the action as low as it could get without fret buzz. The result? Unbelievable.I've had other journeyman guitarists ask me how I got it to play and sound so sweet....so I tell 'em.

The sound or tone is awesome stock and even better if you spend a little more.I play a ton of styles. From modern contemorary worship, to full on Christian metal, this guitar( and the 2 others I own just like it !!!)does it all and does it extremely well.I can honestly say that for what you pay, you get much, much more in value.I just can't see spending 2300.00 on a Les Paul or nearly that on a PRS or for that matter 900.00+ for a strat, when these guitars, set up the way I have them,do it all.Literally.I've played these through rack rigs,Marshalls,Mesa's,Krank and several Line 6 amps and every one of them kicked hard.Obviously different tones, but still great sound. You just can't beat these guitars.

Out of the box these guitars are amazing.Really.You don't have to do anything. Now, I've been playing nearly 40 years, so I am kind of a tone freak, and want max versatility, so I did mod each one I own,but only a little.I added EMG HZ4 at the bridge and a HZ4a at the neck, put in a 16 pole 5 way blade super switch and 2 coil tap switches. That's the trick for getting unbelievable tonal variations.Set up this way, these guitars can sound like any instrument made.Really.If you don't believe it,you need to try it.Truly breathtaking. As far as the overall fit and finish, these guitars are built well, stable, great flamed tops for the price, great hardware and insane necks.I've played every Jackson out there and these compare to any of them!Plain and simply put these are great guitars for any level player.

I have 3 of these. Each one is in great condition. They are really incredible instruments.Live, studio, practice.....it stands up to any enviroment. They're built to last.I often do play at church without a backup and I don't need one. These are very dependable and for the cost really well made.

As I mentioned,I've been at this for almost 40 years and played alot of different guitars.I have 3 of these guitars,2- DK2's,a 2005 custom Strat and a hardtail Ibanez RG 321.The DXMGT is still by far the most versatile and the best player out of all these. And if lost or stolen I would not hesitate to get another one(or 2 or 3 or....).I currently play through Line 6 amps at church and have a hot rack system( Digitech2101 Artist,Aphex aural 204 exciter,2- Rane ME30 EQ's and a Mesa 50/50 power amp run through 2- Marshall JCM 900 1960B cabs)for larger concerts. Each system sounds awesome with these guitars.I love everything about 'em.

I have tried to throw too much at this axe and i can't seem to do it. Highs are bright, lows are tight and crunchy. I play everything from classic rock to thrash and this suits them all. I keep it tuned down one half step from standard and only very rarely to i have to tweak tuning. Usually only after a long session of bending notes till my fingers bleed. I run it through a POD XT or a Behringer GX212 Ultratwin combo. Or, if i am feeling spunky, sometimes both. I haven't found it to be the least bit noisy with the amp alone, but sometimes the POD lends itself to a little hum. It's only to be expected I guess. It has been suited best to the metal and harder rock. But with the switch in the middle position and the POD dialed in to an acoustic tone, it sounds pretty amazing too. And sustain was invented for this guitar with a proper set up.

The factory set up was spot on. The action happened to be just where i like it. Nice and low, but not low enough to buzz. In tune all the way up and down the neck. The pickups were just about perfect. The neck is F-A-S-T, fast. If you can't play a solo on this, you can't play it on anything. And the black sparkle just screams METAL.

This guitar has withstood all the playing i can throw at it. I wear out before it would even think of quitting. It has taken a few spills and has held up well. Even stayed in tune after an open case tumbled off the top of my amp. Hardware is solid. It stays in tune and the strap buttons are nice and big. No slippage at all. I have a Epi LP and Ibanez RG470 as backups, but they have remained just that, backups. I am confident enough to leave the house with this and only this, but karma being what it is, I don't.

I have been playing now for about 4 years. As listed above I have the Behringer GX212 combo, Epi LP, Ibanez RG470, Squire Strat, a sweet but cheap as all hell Frankenstrat copy that rocks amazingly hard, Washburn D10 acoustic, Ibanez Soundgear 300 bass, and a vintage Silvertone electric as well as the POD XT. If this was stolen, first I would find the dude that snatched it, and beat him with it since it seems to stay in tune so well. If it was gone for good, i would replace it in a heartbeat. I love the fast neck, low action, and rock-solid hardware. And not that I would use it all that often, but if it had a more standard bridge, a trem bar would be nice every once in a while. I like to play alot of Van Halen and thats tough to do without a whammy. Same goes for Satch or Vai. I compared it with a couple Schecter Omen 6's with the action so low it buzzed on all six strings with no fretting. I was thinking about an Epi Les Paul Custom too, but even the Epi model is too heavy for what I wanted. I wanted the PRS double cutaway, but it was about $2000 more than I had to spend. Go figure.

Compared to other guitars I've owned, this one sounds so superior. It does not matter if it's a clean sound or ultra distorted. The electronics are whisper quiet, unlike the Ibanez RG 350 DX I traded for this piece. Played through my Line 6 spider II amp with a little tape echo and a little flanger through the insane effect, this thing just blows me away. It is such a cool sound. Unlike any thing I've ever heard.

I've been playing on and off for 20 years. I've owned probably 15 guitars. Every thing from junk to an American Fender Strat. I would have to say this this is the nicest guitar I have owned for the money. I would say to any one who reads this that if you are looking at a comparable Ibanez or Epiphone, or Squire, stop looking at them and get one of these. Besides, it's a Jackson. Just having it strapped on will increase your cool factor by at least 10.

2005 Transparent Red Quilted top. Made in Japan, bolt on neck with shark-tooth inlays and SLSMG style headstock. Black hard ware, string through. This guitar is an awesome workhorse. The only other guitar that I have owned, besides my 1989 Charvel 475 and not had to do a thing too but........ I did. This guitar sounds great out of the box! I did however swap out the EMG HZ3's for EMG HZ4's. I put an EMG HZ4 Alnico in the neck position and an HZ4 in the bridge with a five way blade style switch. The wiring diagram was custom designed to switch the phase on the pick ups. Talk about amazing tonal variations! Form Dire Straits to Dark Angel tonal variations! All my other guitars are Floyd Rose equipped, but this guitar is way more versitile with the string through design. I went to Guitar Center to buy the Jackson SLSMG but am totally happy with my suprise purchase. I have played Charvel/Jackson guitars since 1987 and am a true believer in their guitars!

I play Hard Rock/Heavy Metal and this guitar delivers!!! The only difference in the HZ3's vs. the HZ4's are the HZ4's have a little more definition. With the custom wiring the guitar can play any style of music on a moments notice. Stock this guitar can still deliver!!

If this guitar holds true to its name then this axe will survive years of live playing, and has so far. I still play my 1989 Charvel 475, as beautiful looking and sounding as the day I bought it. I have no fear that my DXMGT will do the same. My DXMG has held up as well. If your looking for a brand that delivers, then look to Charvel/Jackson.

I have been playing for twenty years and have used Charvel/Jackson for eight-teen of those years. I own a 1989 Charvel 475, a 2004 Jackson DXMG, and of course my lovely DXMGT. I use a Digitech GSP 2101 through a BBE Sonic Maximizer 482I, then to top it off my signal ends up in my Peavey Classic 60/60 Tube Power amp, to the Marshall 1960 cabs. Bottom line....... I love this axe!!!

This guitar is great for the price and the sound. You can go from nice and clean to down and dirty. I mostly play 80's rock from Pink Floyd to Iron Madien. I run this baby through a Vox AD30VT with all the amp modes and effects the amp has I can get almost any sound with this guitar. The pickups are super quiet no hum at all.

I've been playing for a few years and have had a number of different guitars. I do have a Schecter C-1 Blackjack which is a very nice guitar also but since I bought the DXMGT the C-1 been collecting dust for about 2 months. I've been through a Ibanez sz520q, Fender standard fat strat, and a Jackson js1. This guitar is by far a better playing guitar you fret a note and boom it's right there. I would definetly get another one if it were stolen and I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone.

Sound is very good on this guitar. The electronics are as quiet as can be. The EMG-HZ pickups can delive a warm clean tone or an excrutiating crunch and everything in between. I don't even need a sound gate for extreme distortion.

The action on this guitar is great. Very fast neck with no buzzing frets tuned standard. Only buzzing problems i have are on the first frets on strings 1 and 2 when i have the guitar turned down to Standard C. Then only thing i have a problem with is when i change the strings, the Tune-O-matic bridge doesn't stay set. Other than that everything was in tip top shape.

This guitar is durable as hell for the price. So far I haven't had any problems, such as broken strings. After a while the bolt around the input socket comes loose. I've played 50 songs in a row and not had any problems. This jackson could definately withstand live playing, but i would always keep a backup just in case.

Now I have the Jackson DXMGT dinky, Line 6 Spider II 112, dunlop crybaby wah, and a DOD FX-35 Octoplus pedal. I would def buy it again because its such a good guitar for such a cheap price.

2005 Japan Model
24 fret rosewood fretboard with sharktooth pearloid inlays
Solid body (not sure on the body wood type
Maple neck and white binding on the neck/headstock
One volume and one tone pot with three-way switch
Two EMG Hz humbucking pickups
String-thru body with tune-o-matic bridge
Jackson non-locking tuners / harpoon shaped headstock (like the SLSMG)
All hardware is black, as is my particular guitar
I rate the feature category as a 9, as it has exactly what I was looking for, hence the reason I bought it. Given it's price range, it is one of very few guitars that feature such qualities as pearloid inlays/all black hardware and EMG pickups (though they are the Hz's as opposed to the 81's 85's etc.....)
Sound
:

I think this guitar is rather versatile. Though I've not had any experience with pick-ups such as EMG 81's or 85's, the Hz's seem to be fairly hot. At least more so than the yamaha pacifica, squier stratocaster, epiphone sg special or carvin dc 127 with m22sd pickups that I've had in the past. They are fairly bright when played through a clean channel and have quite a bit of sustaining distortion when played dirty. I run mine into a Digitech GNX2 effects processor and then into a Behringer V-Tone 1200 120-watt head and BGF-412 cabinet. I think the guitar caters toward hard/rock and metal and find the pick-ups require a bit of adjustment, which I think is a good thing. Especially when played clean, I had to adjust the bridge pick-up to be much higher than the neck pick-up to achieve equal volume levels throughout the three switch settings. However, I was able to find a "happy place" and was pleased to notice a big difference when adjusting them, as many of my other guitars showed little change. The guitar is rather quiet, though I attribute this merely to the humbucking style pickups (as opposed to single coils), rather than the guitar itself. Additionally, it seems to have good sustain, likely a result of the tilt-back headstock and string-thru body.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:
10
I purchased the guitar from Guitar Center and found the action to be set very well. It has a very low action with no buzzing. the neck is VERY smooth and fast. In my humble opinion, I find Jackson, Ibanez and Carvin DC model necks to be the best around, with the Jackson ranking in at number one. the neck is very similar to that of the Carvin and Ibanez manufacturers, but I believe it is slightly thinner, with similar width. It is slightly thinner than that of a Stratocaster and much the opposite of a Les Paul/SG. In short, I feel this category is where this guita shines......the feel is simply the best around in my opinion, though I realize this is a matter of preference.
Reliability/Durability
:

I'm sure the guitar would withstand live playing and whether you choose to use a back-up is up to you. I wouldn't expect problems to occur based on the quality of the guitar, but I think that has little to do with your decision making process regarding back-up guitars. The finish and hardware seem to be as good as any other I've seen.

Been playing consistently a couple hours per day for about six years now. I own a Yamaha Pacifica, Squier Stratocaster, Epiphone SG, Fender Acoustic, Digitech RP100, Digitech GNX2, Fender Princeton 65 and Behringer V-Tone 1200 Head and BG412F Cabinet. I would definatley purchase this guitar again. Before I purchased this guitar, I made a decision as to what features I was looking for in a guitar, which were fretboard inlays other than boring dots, a fixed bridge and two humbucking pick-ups. From that point, I spent litterally a couple hours nearly every day on the internet looking at and reading reviews for countless guitars and pick-ups and have spent countless hours right her on HC reading nearly every user review posted. I really did invest a lot of time trying to make the best purchase I could on a guitar that met my feature criteria and I would definately say my work paid off!! I'm extremely happy with this guitar and would recommend to my best friend! I've tried to think of some terrible, or even less than good things to say bout this guitar and really can't think of anything at the point.
