This guitar fits my sound perfectly. I replaced the bridge pickup (which wasn't all that bad) with a Tonerider Generator pickup and it sounds great for crunch and the leads on this guitar sing. It has nice sustain and when I play an extended note, it segues graceful into beautiful overtones easily. If you'd like, you can hear how great this guitar sounds: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6775116

Well, I bought the guitar at a pawnshop, but didn't have to adjust it much at all. It was setup very nicely, although the previous owner had a Roland Synth pickup installed so there is a hole about an inch above the bridge pickup!

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is pretty much a rock. It was built in Japan during the "Golden Era of Jackson Imports" and you can tell the quality when you pick it up and play it. In the pawn shop, I just bought it mostly because of the neck, but I've come to appreciate what a fine quality instrument this is. Everything is still incredibly solid and it's 15 years old.

I've been playing over 30 years and have owned many guitars - Kramers, Fenders, Gibsons, Epiphones, Ibanez, and custom built guitars. Currently have 11 guitars. I have a Blackheart Half-Stack, a Peavy XXX and a Roland Cube. Truly, this is one of the two nicest I have owned. As I said, one of the best features is the neck - it is even thinner than the original Ibanez Wizard, and just ridiculously fast and easy to play.

The only bad thing about this guitar is that everyone now hates me for getting such a killer guitar at such a good price!

1994 Black Soloist type, dinky body, 24 frets, rosewood board, reverse HS, double locking Floyd copy, 1 volume, 1 tone, 3way blade switch and two hunbuckers. All hardware was black. It was what I wanted because an ESP like Kirk Hammets was not available at the time...........I think?

Sound : 10
The bridge bucker was hot!!!!!!! The neck bucker was mellow and well rounded I guess. I don't ever use buckers in the neck, I like a single coil up there. I brought it home to a 1994 Crate G 40 C, 40 watt stereo chorus amp. The two of them together worked out great. I added a DOD Grunge pedal and Delay pedal. This improved the sound alot. It was the perfect setup for me. I could get many sounds out of it. I play metal and have since ventured into blues, 70's rock and even some KoRn and all the other new rap-metal shit. It did the job ok.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
It came perfectly set up for me. No flaws. This is good for a mail order guitar. The pickups were direct mounted to the body. The bridge bucker was a blade type or rail type. It was at the correct height for me.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I had it for 5 years. It withstood going to California twice and moving a few times. I put one ding in it. The bridge post rusted from the sweat from my palm. It would still be here today if I could turn back time. Even though the neck was ultra thin, it withstood several climate changes.....humid, below freezing, 115 degree, ect.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I don't know. Never needed them.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
It was my first expensive guitar. I have owned alot of lower line name brands and a BC Rich that was marked way, way down from $1200 to $400 even due to the fact that nobody wanted it and it sat in the shop for like 4 years. It had one bucker and a maple fretboard with a black and red crackle paint job all thrown together on a warlock body. This Dinky was a great guitar, but I thought i wanted a 7 string. I sold it for $400 and put the money down on an Ibanez RG7421. I hated the 7 string and wish I could have got my Jackson back.

Made in 2000, 24 frets, came with HSS config, volume, tone 5-way selector, Mat black finish with a licensed floyd rose bridge. Sweet neck!

Sound : 10
Well when i first got it the sound sucked horribly, mainly because of the pickups so i ripped them all out then i put in an EMG 81, now it sounds beautiful. Basically it comes with shitty electronics but the body and neck kick major ass and its cheap too!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Guitar was set up fine, bridge needed tweaking because it came set up for 9 gauge and I use 10 gauge other than that its perfect.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've thrown this thing
1.)down stairs
2.)at my drummer
3.) at my bassist (rough day!)
4.) at a CONCRETE floor.
it never went out of tune I drop it on its head and play really rough bt it refuses to scratch.

Customer Support : 7
Jackson kicks ass They don't return emails though!

I've been playing 3 years about, I have what i consider a "nice guitar" now. All i have to do now is invest in some marshall stuff then i'll be all set. I have to say though this thing is built like a tank. It is a wicked beast!

Two lame sounding humbuckers.

nice neck.

floyd rose knock off tremelo that refuses to stay in tune.

This guitar sounds like shit. I'm so dissapointed in Jackson. I have a custom shop soloist I got back in the late 80's (when Jackson were making flawless guitars) and I love it, so I bought this used on faith alone. The tone just plain sucks! I replaced the bridge humbucker with a duncan full shred and it improved the sound a little, but not enough. I still can't believe Jackson has stooped so low as tp manufacture middle of the line to bottom of the line guitars.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Looks nice, really nice. But looks can be decieving and in this case, this guitar is all looks and no performance.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Never had a problem with it, but I hardly ever play it anymore.

haven't dealt with them since the late 80's.

It sounded good when I first got it. Now I have an emg 81 in the bridge. Sounds fantastic. The stock neck humbucker is nice, good clean tone. It's also nice for classic rock and blues.

The action is low, and the guitar plays very easy. I have no complaints.

I bought this guitar new in 1996. Made in Japan, it has a 24 fret bolt-on neck, poplar (? - it's thin and light no matter what it is) "strat" body a super thin neck with mahogany fretboard, two stock Jackson passive humbuckers, 3way switch, volume and tone control, Licensed Floyd Rose Bridge, Gotoh tuners, and nut lock.

Sound : 5
I play mostly metal, but have been going over into Floyd-ish, blues, and other music as well. It has a pretty good clean tone, but the pickups could be better. I run it through a Zoom 505, and the low quality of the pickups is noticeable even there. They have a hard time putting out a crunch sound, it's all more of a metal lead "whine." The tone knob has a large effect on the sound, switching between pickups has some effect, but enough to warrant using either (unlike on my friend's Fender Strat - I am starting to think the tone knobs are not connected to anything: they make no difference AT ALL). The sound has decent tone and body, but it lacks true cleanliness or bassy rumble. I like that the guitar was cheap, but I think I got a lemon: both knobs (though still working perfectly) have become loose and shake, my 3way switch is seasonal: it works for a while, then it doesn't on one or two of the three settings (although I think I fixed that problem - haven't had any trouble with it since), and the neck is a little off: the high e string is too close to the edge, so some pulloffs just don't work. Also (probably because the body is light), there is a large tendency for one string to start vibrating slightly while another one is being played.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The guitar was set up well originally, the pickups worked fine, all in all, it was a well made guitar (with the exception of the neck). The finish is still perfect, the head (that I have run into walls with about 20 times) shows hardly any wear. The action is ok, nothing special, and the neck joint prevents free access to the highest frets. However, the VERY thin neck shape is the fastest/most comfortable I have ever played (I think the neck shapes are shared by most Jacksons).

Reliability/Durability : 6
The problems that I have encountered with wear have been the knobs and the pickup selector. The pickup selector is a problem, the knobs are just kinda annoying but they still work perfectly. The wood is rather tough, I have hit MANY things with the guitar and it shows basically zero wear and tear. The pickup selector problem would keep me from using it on a gig.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to talk to them, 1 year warranty.

Overall Rating : 7
Been playing 3.5 years, it was my first electric. I now also have an LTD M2 and an LTD H200, and will have a Jackson Randy Rhoades as soon as I can find a good deal on one. As soon as I get the Rhoades (or maybe before), this one is going in the For Sale pile. In other words, I would not buy this guitar again. If I was to buy a strat shaped Jackson, I would look for a Soloist USA w/ neck thru body and dual humbuckers (just a BIT more expensive - doh!). I love the neck shape and the feel, I hate the crappy pickups. I originally chose it over similarly priced Ibanez and Fenders because it just sounded and felt SO much better. After having played better guitars, I now realize many of its shortcomings (the ones I have mentioned), but it is still not a bad guitar for the price.

I bought this used from my guitar teacher, and I believe it is from 94'. It has a 5-way switch, tone and volume knobs, and two humbuckers. (H/H) It has a strat style body which is incredibly comfortable, and a reverse headstock. (Be careful! It's pointy!) Comes with a Floyd Rose and a locking nut. The neck is wide and thin, leaving plenty of room for insane bends.

Sound : 10
I play a lot hardcore/grind music, and this guitar suits it perfectly. From punk/ska, to Ozzy, to Cannibal Corpse, this guitar never leaves my arms. I play it through a DoD Death Metal pedal, and through a Peavey Ultra half stack, and a Peavey Bandit at practice. The pickups deal with massive amounts of distortion quite well, aside from a noticable hiss. It has a really thin, harsh sound when set to the bridge pickup, but with the volume back a bit, and both pickups on, can give you a thick, ballsy tone. I dislike the clean tone I get from this because of the highs, but distorted is when this guitar shines through.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
When I purchased this, it was already set up perfectly. (it was used) The only flaws I noted were the few scratches my teacher left on it from years of gigging. The bridge was a pain in the neck for me, but this was my first guitar with a Floyd in it, so I suppose I had to learn some time.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar feels quite solid for how thin and light it is. The finish seems to come off easily, but that's what stickers are for! The strap buttons are large and solid, so I have never felt the urge to get strap locks for this axe. I wouldn't gig with this w/o a backup, but that's just because of the floyd and my tendency to break strings whenever it's important not to.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them, but I've heard good things.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 6 1/2 years, and this axe will always be with me. (at least until I can afford a custom BC Rich.. heh heh) If this guitar was stolen, I would probably search for another Jackson of the same quality. I love the tone and the balance of the guitar. It's not incredibly light, but its balance makes it seem that way. I love the neck on this guitar, especially after I became accustomed to it.

made in '93/when they first came out. 24 frets, solid top, volume and tone control, which were changed to 2 volume controls (no tone...takes away from the natural pickups' sound.) passive electronics. basswood body with maple neck. solid black, floyd rose.
the dinkys that were made in '93 were a lot better than the ones that are out now. the necks were a little wider and the fretboards were a lot flatter. they are very very thin. i love this guitar and actually have found a 2nd one that i customized also; 2 volumes and no tone controls. seymour duncan pickups. these guitars are very light and very powerful! easy to play. the only thing i would like more is if they made the '93 model with an ebony fretboard as thin as this. these are discontinued, and have been since the beginning of '94. they are very similar to the DR-3 but there is a difference.

Sound : 10
the sound is great, even with the stock pickups...2 hums. i use it with my crate half stack, couple racks, and BBE unit. rich full sound...crunchy. i love this guitar

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
action is perfect...and it fits your body very well. it's like climbing into a sportscar...at least to me

Reliability/Durability : 10
very reliable. never gave me problems and i've had the one for 5 years now. used it on my entire cd.

Customer Support : 10
i've talked with jackson a handful of times, not cuz there was a problem, but because i inquired on having one made for me special with the same specs. they were excellent to deal with.

Overall Rating : 10
i've been playing 11 years and am currently working on my 2nd cd. i would definately buy it again! it's a small scale guitar and it's just great!
