Features : 10
Made in Japan in the mid 90's
24 frets
Only one dial - volume - 3 way switch for two pickups - HUMBUCKER SWITCH for single or double coil selection
Single coil pickup at the neck position with Jackson in script on the pickup - double coil with Jackson in script and the pickup is 'switchable' from double to single
The neck is extra-thin. I've never found a thinner neck since this HAGSTROM from the 60's. Nah, this ones thinner
Mine is RED -TRANSPARENT and it plays like the DEVIL's violin
TELE style body with super long 24 fret neck
Floyd Rose - licensed by Jackson and it took me an hour to change the first string. I figured it out eventualy. The TREMOLO is my least favorite feature. I paid $300.00 for the guitar in excellent condition-used so replacing the TREM with a SCHECTER FLOYD will cost more than the guitar. I am keeping the original because no matter how much/crazy I whammy, it falls right back in tune, perfectly. The instructions say not to use 'perfect' nothing is perfect, but my Fender digital guitar tuner tells me otherwise.
The tuners are Jackson stock tuners and with the FLOYD loc at the top all is good/great.
NECK: thinnest fastest slickest speediest blazing, I'm out of adjectives. It has Jumbo frets and at the top of the neck near the double octave 24th fret. the frets are so big that it feels 'scalloped'. This is another wonderful surprise quality.
For $50.00 more SAMASH through in a case, monster cable, picks-Fender HEAVY that matched my guitars color, American flay strp and a bunch of allen wrenches (which are very necessary, the floyd need two and the neck needs one).

Sound : 10
SHREDDING BLUES ROCK, I even use it for funky plunky soul rythmn guitar.
I use a bunch of amps, and right now an old ROLAND CHORUS. My only effect is a TUBE SCREAMER. I have a DIME-BAG WHA and a ROLAND ECHO but they haven't been used in months.
NOISY: Never, the single coil pick-up is silent - it's in the neck position. And I mean silent. I do studio gigs and when I bring in a STRAT we fight to silence the buzz. (I have 3 STRATs)Not when I am using the single coil on this one. We can't make it buzz, except maybe with a BIG-MUFF-PI
There are not likes or dis-likes because I am in love with this AX.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I imagine it was set-up nice at the factory. It was in great shape when I bought it approx. 10 YEARS USED and not a nicjk on it. The guitar tech at my local SAMASH is very good. He takes the used guitars that come in and improves any/every feature on the used guitars before the put them on the shelf.
The pick-ups are stock and if it ain't broke, I'm certainly not going to fix it. I've been playing for 40+ years and it took me forever to change the first string. I've read other reviews where the other owners start with the pick-ups and change most of the hardware. I am going to wait until they break/die. Them and a tube screamer and I've got the sustain of SANTANA.
I mentioned earlier that the FLOYD-JACKSON-ROSE TREM is my least favorite feeature, but it stays in tune so I'm keeping it (until it breaks/dies).

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I plays live fine. I use it all night. I pray to the guitar gods that I don't break a string though (see abovve for string replacing-nightmare)
Forget the hardware-finishstrap buttons- critique they are fine. The guitar feels like it's going to'snap' any minute. I would probably freak-out or go into a depression if it did. I really love this ax. I e-mailed someone that told me he had one and had to replace the neck. He said he got another JTX-J7X neck. Thank Goodness. These necks are one of a kind, super-extra thin. If you don't believe me read another review or better yet, play one.
Also, I have big hands/heart. With the extremely thin neck, that shouldn't work, but it does. It is a maple blond neck and it is so slick. It has FOUR bolts in the back connecting it to the body which makes me feel a little better about the 'frail' quality of the over-all feel.
Would you use it on a gig without a backup? NO, it takes too long to change strings. Although I have only poped one string in two months with going whammy crazy at times. I can change a STRATs string and tune it and get back into the song in less than two minutes, live.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I bought it used. I am sure Jackson is great with customer support but I have had no experience with them. I use a couple of LOCAL places for any guitar work I don't do myself. I just wish that Jackson made more of these or re-issued them. I can't believe they are so cheap. (Maybe I should refer to my 'frail' comments or my 'made in Japan' comment).

I startes palyin guitar in 1962 when my parents bought me a FENDER JAGUAR-sunburst. I have this guitar still and it's in it's original case right next to where I sleep.
I have tried for several months to purchase one of the legendary GIBSON M3, MKII , M III , twice I got E-sniped and a third try almost got 'ripped-off' big time on EBAY. They tried to drive up my price. They contacted me after I 'lost' and wanted me to send $808.00 TO eNGLAND WITH TO pay-pal, just WESTERN-UNION. Both VISA and WESTERN-UNION customer service begged me not to do the transaction. We MAP-QUESTED and GOOGLE MAPPED the address in England and both sources could not find the address. WESTERN-UNION customer service called me a second time and told me I was blessed that I didn't make the transaction.
NOTE: I live in South Florida where they have a store that has five+ of the above mentioned M3 GIBSON guitars. Only two are for sale and they start at $1400.00 I hope to own one someday, but I've got this J7X and it may play even better. The sound on the M3 is way better and the M3 has one of the most unique pick-up configurations ever. Check-it-out on someone's review. I'll review it when I get one, say 2007???

This is a 1990's model I believe was made in Japan. It is pretty sweet. The neck is extra thin which makes it a speed deamon. It is white with a flashy pick guard. It has a humbucker and 2 single coils. Floyd Rose type bridge.

Sound : 9
Sounds very good. I play it through a piece of crap crate amp and an Ibanez TS9 medal and it sounds excellent. If I had the option I wish the pickups were connected to the body not the pick guard.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Action it 100% awesome. Eruption is no problem on this thing. The finish was okay. It might be 10 years old so I cant expect it to be perfect but it had some corrosion on the metal (floyd/pickups/screws). Couple small dings on the body.

Reliability/Durability : 9
The guitar should hold up well. I always baby my guitars.

Cant finf anyhting about this guitar on the Jackson site. Also, the name on my guitar isnt JTX but rather JSX I think.

Overall Rating : 10
I am an old geezer at 35 years old. I got my first guitar at 16. I have about 15 guitars from vintage to this Jackson. Once i get it dialed in (i just got it last night)it will be my main guitar when I am not playing blues. I cant wait to play crazy train on it. At $175 you cant beat it. I was going to buy an OLP VH for $225 and this Jackson blows that thing away in every way imaginable. Plus the I got a free case with it and the couple gave me a cd of their band. I have a George Lynch screaming deamon I might put in. If I do that this giutar will be perfect.

not sure the year of the guitar, but it's nice.

It's a made in japan telecaster body, thin flat maple neck/fretboard, with suped up electronics. It has a humbucker in the bridge and a single coil in the neck. Not sure of what kind of pickups, just jackson made is all i know. It had a nice burgandy finish on it, until i got antsy this summer and painted it, which i botched, and will repaint. Pearloid pickguard really stands out, and gives the guitar a touch of class, going against the grain of the killer headstock. It has a floyd rose trem system, pretty good closed tuners, amd what appeared to be a 3 piece alder body. im not sure what it had stock, but when i got it(used, 3 years ago...)it had a single volume knob and a coil tap, which was nice...kinda. a tone knob woulda been nice.

Sound : 10
the sound is pretty good. great for a first guitar(i got lucky!), and pretty nice tone now that i've gotten a little better ear. The single hums a tad, but it's not too noticible. the guitar can cover any broad range of musical styles, from metal to jazz. There's nothing to not really like on this guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
since i didn't get the guitar new, i'm not able to give any info.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
this guitar is great. i've played a few gigs, and it worked quite well. solid thing it is. everything on it seems quality, even the pots and 3 way switch. The finish was great. nice and thick, very glossy. i dropped it on stage, and there was just a little nick on the body, and that was all. strap buttons got changed to straplocks after that!

Customer Support : No Opinion
havent talked to jackson about it.

Overall Rating : 10
well, i've been playing for 4 years, this specific guitar for 2.5 of them, and i love it. i also own a schecter c-1(another great guitar) and a crappy crate amp. The only thing i wish this guitar had was the trem bar...it didn't have one when i got it, and GC never carries em...i'll eventually get one off of ebay or something, once it gets repainted and put back. I love everything aboutthis guitar. people bitch about the floyd roses, but they're not bad.

I bought mine in 1994,for about $550.00 I believe - a Japanese model. Purple with a pearl pickguard. I didn't like the humbucker that came in it, so at first I tried a Screamin Demon. Next i installed a SD pickup that the local guitar guru said Had to have been a prototype of some sort. 24 frets, a Floyd Rose (licensed?) trem, and transparent finish with an overspray of glitter for effect - but OH MY GOD would that thing scream! I pampered it from day one, and it earned me many a dollar!

Sound : 10
With the right amp setup, there wasn't much that I couldn't get it to do - hot rodded rock, chicken-pickin country, big clean chorused ballads, and good percussive sounds for funk-type grooves. There were NO complaints here.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guy I bought the guitar from always set up his axes for the individual he was selling to, so I never got to see what it was like from the factory. Everything about the guitar was perfect - strangely, it was one of my FIRST brand-new guitars, and I assumed they bwould all be that great right out of the box!LOL
Later I had a brand-new Les Paul Studio Light that wasn't in as good a shape as the Jackson!

Reliability/Durability : 10
I carried that guitar around to gigs all over this part of the country for 8 years, and for 5 of those, I didn't have a backup. I could divebomb until the strings were hanging off the neck - it almost NEVER went out of tune; string breaks were few and far between, and even when they did, it was because of my heavy-handed playing style. The reason I sold it last year was becausethe frets were starting to show some serious wear, and I'm kinda weird about playing stuff after it's had surgery. (I still got 300 dollars for it at a pawn shop!)

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing since I was 11 - since 1981, to be exact. Got serious about it in 1990, and I've spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $12,000 on guitars, basses, effects, and amps since then - always used someone else's P.A.
I wish I would have never let that guitar go - it has proven to be the best one I ever had. It is back in the same pawnshop right now, busted all to hell! Looks like someone put it in the back of his pickup and drove around a pasture all day!
I would buy another one right now, if it was in great (stock) shape.

1994 model, japanese made. Mine is serial number 200, do no tknow how many were made or much history.... It is a tele look alike, single in the neck, humbucker bridge. Trans purple, white pearloid pickguard, maple 24 fret neck (stnadard jackson thin & flat). Double locking Floyd Licensced trem. I bought this new for $480 in 94 with no accesories.

Sound : 8
Pickups have been replaced with Shadow hotrails in front, and humbucker in rear, since the jackson hum was dying on me. Since this the guitar SCREAMS!!! Originally I played heavier music, ie speed metal... and this guitar has always fit that niche. I play throuhg an 83 peavey Tube combo. Versitility is decent, although I recently bought a strat due to this guitar not being able to get as "blusey" as I like lately... overall, great sound for the price!!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Honestly, this guitar has been the finest I have yet owned (1st new axe) I have NEVER had a problem with it, and any flaws were minor enouhg that I never really noticed. The wood is not beautiful, but the finish is dark enough to hide it a bit, and it is not ugly... just not high quality. Fit & Finish I am very happy with on this guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 6
Jackson pickups were crap. I never realized taht in 10 years LOL Now, with decent pickups this guitar is great. It seems tough and durable, but I do not gig, so I am unqualified to speculate much on durability.... I belive it would hold up well with care however... I have to rate rather low, due to ignorance on my part....

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed to use them.... I am impressed with the quality for the price.

Overall Rating : 8
I have played since 91, off and on. I own an (original) 63 Danelectro, and a Westone series ST. This guitar cannot match the sound of the danny, but it is not supposed to. I love the fit & finish of this guitar... it has made me a Jackson lover for life! If it were stolen I would kill someone. I had this autographed by Kanses in 1995, and it is very sentimental to me for that reason. I will definately buy another jackson sooner or later. I compared this with a jap Kelly when I bought it, and liked the twangy front single in it, even though now, I have a hotrails in it (LOL). As I get older, I am more into blues, and this guitar just dosent do to great there... also as my old(er) hands get a bit arthritic, the thin 16 radius shred-o-matic neck HURTS! overall though, I will rate this guitar higher than others I have played (based on price vs sound) I hope this does someone some good, and if you are lucky enouh to find one of these, seriously consider it...(Trust me, there is NOTHING like whipping out a :P purple :P 'Tele and laying down some metal... LOL it gets a LOT of weird looks....)

Made in Japan I guess, because i bought it used, and the guy who sold the guitar told me so, it was made in japan. black guitar with white pearl pickguard. H/S/S pickup, single pickup at the neck not original, already change by fernandes Sustainer pickup (active with Battery)it does scream with this pickup. Very Heavy guitar, It really sound nice and sustain just like the edge from U2 playing.

Sound : 8
I play heavy metal music like creed, SUM41 but also playing u2, my setting is (i really love Boss Analog effect) PSM5-MT2-HR2-PH1r-GE7-DD3-(sometimes also use BF2-CE5-AW2 and CS3) trough my Roland Cube20. the problem is this guitar eat alot the battery for sustain pickup. but it really power up my gig. have a texture sound, more warmth, it is difference with my dinky reverse (also jackson)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
i told you already the problem is this guitar eat alot the battery for sustain pickup and also have problem with Locking maybe because of the first owner of this guitar, since i love very much this guitar i will repair it to local shop but it's still okay.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Still ok for live playing, but i have fender stratocaster am-std and also PGM 30 ibanez for a backup

Never Dealt with Jacksons, I Guess there's no Branch in here

these are rare pieces made in japan in 94 or 95 so i was told. i believe there were only 250 of these things made. mine is number 242. has a 3 way selector switch, 24 frets, 1 humbucker, 1 single coil, tele style body, pearl pickguard, cherryburst, floyd rose trem, mine came with a case.

Sound : 9
nice sounding guitar. both pickups do what they're supposed to do. the humbucker rocks, and the single coil gives off a twangy telecaster type tone.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
outstanding playing guitar. fit-n-finish is good, no bad fret buzzing. everything is pretty nice.

Reliability/Durability : 9
had it about a year with zero probs. good guitar. seems solid.

Customer Support : No Opinion
no opinion. never needed them.

Overall Rating : 9
it's a nice guitar that does what it is supposed to do. i like it because it's unique and it rocks. i've never seen another one at a music store or when i go watch other bands play. i play in a band and when i play out i always get nice compliments and cool comments about it. its bad to the bone!

Tele style jackson made for only a couple of years. I bought mine in jan of 96. It has a humbucker in the bridge and a single coil in the neck. Comes with a jackson floyd copy. 24 fret maple neck, your usual jackson shape. I think they came with one volume and a spiltter switch fof the bridge pickup. I have since replaced that with a tone control. It is basically a jackson, heavy metal, tele stlye guitar.

Sound : 8
The guitar body is made out of bass wood and is very heavy. This thing is like wearing a les paul! The heavy dense body makes the guitar have alot of output and very nice bottom end. I play mostly hard rock/heavy metal and this guitar is great for that type of music.
When i first bought it the factory single coil was still in it but the bridge humbucker had been replaced with a very nice dimarzio PAF Pro. . I used it like that for awhile but as soon as i had the money i put in a set of EMGs. An 85 and a SA. these pickups really scream in this guitar and the body over comes the usual loss tha occurs when the pickups are mounted to the pick guard as they are in this guitar.
I use this as my main guitar with a Mesa DC-5 amp and a few different effects. The guitar works well with the Mesa and i can get a very nice range of sounds for metal/rock music. This set up would not work at all for blues/pop/country.
My only dislike about this guitar was that with the passive pickups it lacked alot of high end that really hurt the sound for playing leads. After installing the EMGs and a bit of tweaking on the Mesa's EQ and all is well.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
The set up of the guitar when i bought it was great. That had more to do with the tech at the shop i bought it from than it did the work at Jackson. All of the workmanship was what you would expect in a guitar in this price range. Not the best but by no means the worst.

Reliability/Durability : 5
I have already played live without a backup and since i don't go totally crazy on the whammy I would have no problems doing it again. I have never had a problem with string breakage on the guitar and i recently up graded the bridge so I don't expect any in the future.
The paint has a few battle scars on it but nothing that is very bad. The finnish is durable enough. Only problem is that its black and like any other black guitar it looks dirty all the time.

This is where my big problem with Jackson comes in. My guitar was technically "used" when I bought. It had been purchased before me but then traded in after only three weeks. Shortly after i bought the guitar i had to start taking it in frequently for neck adjustments. I kept getting buzz between the fourth and eighth frets on the higher strings. After seeing this happen for about six weeks the tech at the shop checked it out and thought that the neck was defective. They called jackson and were told to ship the guitar to texas so it coulf be looked at and repaired. Now the wait begins......
Three months later the guitar is returned with a letter saying that there is nothing wrong with it and that there will be no warranty work done on it since it was bought "used". The guitar still buzzed when they returned it and there was a visable twist in the neck. The guys at Main Street Music were great at trying to help me out with the situation but Jackson would not play along. So finally i made the choice to buy a new neck so i could get my guitar back to playing condition. Now the wait continues......
The shop ordered my neck and thought they would get it in about a week to ten days. Three months later it showed up. Problem sloved right? Wrong. They sent the wrong neck for my guitar. So we return that one and then wait another five weeks for them to send the right one. The owner of the shop was again good to me and gave me the neck for cost, $118. This is for a made in japan neck. Keep this in mind when you ask your dealer how much a replacement neck is for a Jackson and he tells you $250! They are selling parts at twice the dealer cost!
All in all i was out my guitar for about eight months simply because Jackson would not admit they made a bad neck and stand behind their product. I know that my guitar was technically "used" because i was the second owner but when it was sent back to Jackson it was only about three months after the initial date of sale. Well within the warranty period.

Overall Rating : 7
Since getting a good neck on the guitar I have been very happy with it. I have been told that very few of these were made and only for about a year or two. I have been to several Jackson dealers that have never even seen one of this model. In all of my searching on the net I have only come across three others. Its a good guiatr and if you ever get a chance to buy one, check the neck, and then get it. I think you will like it.
