I don't scoop my mids. If you do this then this guitar will sound muddy and generally terrible. Any professional will tell you never scoop your mids. it's a quintessentially noobish thing to do in my opinion. These pickups aren't as clear as a JB or EMG 81, Dimarzio X2N etc but they are good if you EQ well.
This guitar is actually a hell of alot better than I thought it would be! I had really bad expectations of the pickups but actually they're the best stock pickups I've ever come across. They sustain well and are quite a bit more open than I thought, It doesn't sound harmonics (Pinch/natural) as well as i'd like, not as well as my LTD Mh400 (EMGs)
It's more clear than alot of stock pickups but under alot of gain it does get a little muddy.(I don't use that much. MT-2 gain never goes part 7 and I never scoop) It's tuned currently to Drop B and actually manages not to go muddy! It's better for rhythum playing than for lead, it's not as full as i'd like for leads and the neck pickup doesn't clean up as well as i'd like for fat leads and doesn't have the harmonic response that I like, other than that It's a good pickup.
If you don't like the pickups I wouldn't suggest an EMG set..The reasons are
It's VERY expensive
These pickups run on 500k potentiometers. EMGs run on 250k ones.. that costs money and a rewiring job which is difficult/expensive.
It's a basswood bodied guitar. EMGs don't suit basswood as well as passives do.
I do really like EMGs (I have a guitar with them that sounds amazing)but there are better and cheaper pickups on the market in my opinion.
I'm giving it the 8 because of the basswood body's resonance (Alder would be better) and the pickups aren't amazing but still very good. :) Cleans could be better but... who buys a metal V guitar to play cleans?

I bought this second hand (??130) .. :D
The guy who I got it off had it set up by a total goon who doesn' know the first thing.
He'd tuned it from E to drop C so the floyd was messed up. this guitar hadn't been played in a few years either. Neck problems.. pickups were too high.. floyd was messed up.. action was fine..
After spending one and a half hours setting up the floyd and tuning it, adjusting the action and intonation.. straightening the neck aswell. Basicly everything it plays very well now, nice low action, straight neck, solid tremolo system.
however the paintjob isn't gerat, kinda thick, weak paint. smudges really badly and the neck doesn't seem solid.. small crack in the back of the headstock that isn't from it being dropped or anything.. I don't think it's gonna grow though.. however this is still a serious problem.
The strap button I moved to the top-right screw of the neckplate beacuse it was neckdiving. The input is in a seriously bad position, if you sit down with a srtaight jack you will damage the input by pressure.
Reliability/Durability

The hardware won't last as well as good hardware will.. one of the washers from the A string tuning peg broke when i tuned it up.. I replced the washer though. easy fix.
The paint isn't gonna last.
Scratches show easily.
I Can't depend on it fully to be honest.
I would never use a guitar without a backup at a gig.
the rest I discussed in "Action, fit and finish"

I've been playing for 4 years. I own an LTD Mh400, an Epiphone LP studio and an Epiphone LP standard (Was my brothers)
This guitar is better than the epiphones but not as good as the LTD.
If you're a novice looking for a decent midranged guitar I wouldn't reccomend this because A: It's a V. B: It's got a floyd. C. The neck is very thin and you don't wanna get used to a thin neck early on.
Otherwise every aspect of this guitar I reccomend for a midrange guitar and it's very good value for money.

The stock pickups I believe were designed to sound like the Jazz/JB combination as fitted to higher end King V models, but after changing them out for the real ones there was no comparison whatsoever.
The body wood gives the guitar a very dark sound, so bright, cutting pickups such as the JB are well suited to it. I would imagine that EMGs would absolutely rock, but its doubtful that a battery and all the electronics would fit inside the control cavity.
It's probably my amp, but even after the pickup change I found the sound to be too stifled. After bypassing the tone control, it seemed to clear up somewhat.
It scores a 6/10 in stock form, 9/10 after modifications.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:
8
The action was good as it came from the store, but the pickups were too far from the strings to get good definition.
The finish was spotless, with no flaws that I could tell.
The stud on the bridge that the trem handle threads onto tends to work itself loose as you use the trem. I'll probably drill the bolt and lockwire it to the bridge to keep that from happening in the future.
The forward strap button is awkwardly placed, especially if you use Schaller-style strap locks. The button tends to dig into your stomach as you play, so that would be the next priority for modifications.
Reliability/Durability
:
8
I don't gig myself, but I would imagine that short of a Hendrix-esque finale the guitar would hold up. I haven't really had much trouble, even with things like string breakage.
The finish is thick and tough. The corners of the guitar will wear out but this would happen to even the most high end V-shaped guitars.
The previously mentioned trem issue could lead to the handle coming off during heavy use, so I can't give this guitar a perfect score for reliability.

In comparison with other guitars in its price range such as Epiphones or Mexican-made Fenders, this is a great value. Although Epiphone's quality control has really improved since the 90's, the X series of Jacksons represent a better balance of cost versus quality.
I've found that Epiphone tends to cheap out more on hardware, and in general has more fit and finish defects, which I won't get into here.

i dunno when it was made but this thing rocks! it was made in japan. this guitar has 24 sleek frets for fast soloing of course! it has a maple bolt on neck with rosewood fingerboard and an alder body. it has two simple easy to use volume and nob control with a 3 way selector switch.the stock duncan pickups are pretty good but not that crunchy. for metal the bridge pup is pretty mediocre. i got mine for 520 canadian dollars and its in amber sunburst finish and its beautiful. it also has a licencsed floyd rose tremelo and tune o matic bridge. the tremelo is fun and perfenct to use. i got mine with a jackson gig bag a lifetime warranty and a pack of picks so not bad at all considering the price!

i mostly play thrash and heavy metal so this is a rock god. it suits my style perfectly. i use it through a line 6 spider 2 with a line 6 floor pod and i couldnt ask for more effects! it has everything. it owns my strat and my epi explorer. it has a the thickest crunchiest sound ever . but you gotta change the pups first to emgs or dimarzios to get the best out of it. i dont dislike anything but the fact that the strap locks are wierdly positioned so you cant sit. but whod wanna sit playing a v?

it was perfectly set up from the factory. it has amazing sustain near the bridge with the right pups and chording is dang easy. i had to raise the pickupos to my pleasure but thatr depends on you.the tone control was bit lose but i tightenend it up right away so no prob. otherwise the finish is flawless.

i play metal, so it is perfect.
i use it through a BOSS metal zone pedal to a Peavey Bandit 112 solid state amp.
the guitar is not noisy at all, but the duncan designed pups are really weak and muddy when you use distortion. the neck pup is ok though...
this guitar definitely needs a pickup change. I just changed my bridge pickup for a DiMarzio X2N. and man i tell you... this demon is all ready for some serious metal playing now.

this guitar will surely stand any kind of gigs... but you need to watch for the point ends... the chrome hardware looks ok,.. but i think it wont last long,, the quality is not of top quality.
oh... gotta mention one thing.. this guitar DOES feel neck heavy. the strap bottons were placed kindda in a bad position, making it leaning toward the headstock. but you just need to get used to it, and re adjust your strap thats all.

I've been playing since 1998. I have a Jackson Kelly Std. and a Epiphone les paul. i wished it'd came with the hardshell case... or at least a decent gig bag... but it came with nothing. just in the paper made jackson box. I had to get the jackson multi molded case, cost me $120, but it gets 100% protected. I don't have to worry about it now. If it'd get lost, i'd definitely get another one.

It has a bolton maple neck, rosewood fretboard, 24 frets, and an alder body (like a $1200 fender). I bought it in July of 2006,but mines an old one with a string thru body bridge. I'm glad I found it 'cuz I didn't want a tremolo. The new ones have tremolos. It's a V body shape, duh. The tuners are Jackson. It has a volume control, tone control, and 3-way pickup selector, no bull. The tone control works great, I can definitely hear a difference when turning the knob. The volume control is a different story. It goes from loud to nothing, instantly. The pickup selector works, but there's not much difference in the sounds, that's the fault of the pickups, though. Two Duncan designed humbuckers. The bridge is modeled after the distortion and the neck is modeled after the Jazz. They're both passive.

It sounds pretty good. The Duncan designed pickups don't come close to real Duncans, but if you need a cheap guitar to mess around with, this will do. It's a lot of fun. I'm in the process of buying real Duncans to replace the pickups. I'm sure this guitar is going to scream when I get them in. I wouldn't doubt it if it wil be the best guitar I've ever played.

It was set up nice when I got it, but be careful when you change the strings. The bridge can easily become messed up. The pickups were kind of low though. Most foreign made guitars aren't set up too well. Your local guitar shop could make your guitar play gloriously for about $40.

He's had a lot of nice guitars and I've played them all. I like the action on this one better than any of them. I've always wanted a V. I have no problem spending money to buy better accessories. When I'm done this guitar is gonna be so bad!

A black V, with chrome hardware and the typical Jackson sharktooth inlays. As far as I know this guitar is made in Japan, in 2006. It has a basswood body with a bolt-on maple neck. 24 frets. The body is of basswood (yep, the new X-series got basswood bodies). Jackson Licensed Floyd Rose and two Duncan Designed humbuckers. 1 volume, 1 tone and a 3-way switch. No useless extra, wich is good for me.
I give it a 7 because of the basswood, but would definately give it a 10 if it had an alder body.
Sound

This is a great guitar for metal, wich is what I play most. I play it through a Zoom606 FX pedal and a 35 Watts Hartke bass amp at home, and a Digitech Grunge and Marshall JCM900 at band practices. Especially the second setup sounds great.
I really like the sound of the pickups. The bridge pickup (Made after the Duncan SH-6 Distortion) is great for metal riffs. It souns agressive, but clear. The neck pickup (made after the Duncan '59) sounds very warm, and sounds perfect for slow solo's with a lot of feeling, but for faster soloing it lacks output.. The neck pickup sounds good clean too.
The only downside I think, is the guitar doesn't have very much sustain. I think this is caused by the combination of a small body (it's a V), bolt-on neck and Floyd Rose type bridge.
Although I really like the stock pick-ups, I'm going to put active EMG's in it, and try how that'll sound.
I give an 8 for the sound. I have never heard better stock pick-ups, but it would be nicer if it had a bit more sustain.

Haven't found any flaws yet, and the setup was olmost perfect. Just had to adjust the springs of the floyd bridge a tiny bit. The rest was just perfect.
The Floyd Rose Licesed bridge stays in tune VERY well. I have used it quite a lot in the beginning and never had problems, except that the whammy bar comes a bit loose sometimes. Now I rarely use it, but if I will be good enough at solo's and would start to use it more often, I think I'll replace it by a Schaller or something.
I give it a 9

I play this guitar live without a backup, because it's my only guitar since I sold my old B.C. Rich. If i could, I would definately take a backup with me, but not because of the guitar itself. Only because it would take too much time if I break a string. Haven't had that problem yet (knock on wood ;) )
A 10!

The only thing I really don't like about this guitar is the basswood body. But I think it ain't that bad, because even the high quality Ibanez guitars got basswood bodies.
I give this guitar an 8

Obviously it looks to be an all out metal guitar, which it is (except for the pickups, ill get to that in a second) The guitar is great for rock of any sort and with SH-2 neck pickups, it can be fairly jazzy too. I only play thrash and death metal, it's what i've always played. I play through a Marshall MG100X and it works great. This guitar has crappy stock pickups. Switch to EMG-81 and EMG-85 pickups, thats the same combo of pickups Zakk Wylde, Kerry King of Slayer and Kirk Hammet of Metallica (before they started to suck) use. If your not gonna switch to EMG pickups (which you should anyway) then at least slap some different Duncans on like SH-2 Jazz Neck and SH-4 TB Bridge. The guitar is good with the feedback restraint and clearity but it could be much better, which is where the EMGs come in. You can get a lot of variety with SH-2 and SH-4 pickups and with EMGs your not gonna get a whole lot of variety but METAL is the only sound i want and theres no better pickup for it. I give it a 8 with stock pickups, a 9 with better Duncans and a 10 with EMGs

I've been playing for 9 years and out of all the guitars I've ever owned or played, this is diffently my favorite. I'm am more than happy with this guitar, if it were stolen, well, i wouldn't let it get stolen, but if it some how did i would for sure get a new one. The first time I bought a guitar i was choosing between my Beast and a Gibson Explorer, the Beast won cause it's cheaper and looked cooler, the next time around it was between the Explorer and the Jackson, the Explorer won cause i already new a lot about it and James Heittfield plays it sooo... then i finially got a Jackson and i loved it, i wish i had gotten it in the first place, it complements EMG pickups better than any other guitar i can think of. I still wish it came with a whamy bar though :-( If you have any questions, i'd be more than happy to answer them, just email me at JacksonVsoloist@coolkiwi.com

I would have given this a better score for features, but it doesn't come with a hardcase, unless you want to pay #200 extra for one, and i would have liked to have a volume control for each pickup. Also, there is no neck binding which would have made the guitar look a lot better.

I play a lot of heavy metal such as megadeth, iron maiden and judas priest and this guitar suits my style pretty good, however i reaplced the bridge pickup for a seymour duncan JB and it sounds a lot better. I gives a nice bright sound which i like and i'm using it with a Vox AD30VT and i can get a really good distorted and clean sound out of it. The only thing i didn't like much was the stock bridge pickup, it wasn't a major dislike, but i replaced the pickup anyway.

The action was really good when i got the guitar, but it could go lower so i adjusted the bridge. There were no flaws in the finish or neck.
The was one major problem though, when i bent the thin E sting it went out of tune, not being much of a guitar expert, i don't know what caused this so i just changed the strings and the problem disappered.

Beause this was my first pointy guitar, i smashed it about quite a lot when i was walking around beacuse i wasn't used to the size, and the finish didn't even dent, i managed to put a small 1mm chip in the paintwork when i hit the lower fin on the metal front of my amp. The strap pins are bigger than normal and look like they were going to last, but i bought some schaller strap locks just in case beacuse i don't want to risk damaging this guitar in a concert. The harware seems pretty solid and the controls havn't came loose and i've had the guitar for about 4 months.

If this guitar was stolen, i would hunt down the person who took it and stab them with the pointy fins of the guitar and probably buy the same guitar again, or if i suddenly had loads of cash, i would buy the KV2 or KV2T.
This guitar has everything i need: fast thin neck, jumbo frets, no floyd rose and it is amazing value for money.

THIS IS A UPDATE TO MY LAST REVIEW. I GAVE THIS GUITAR A 7 OVERALL, BUT AFTER EXSTINSIVE TESTING, THIS LITTLE JEWEL ROCKS. I SLIPPED THE JUDAS PRIEST ELECTTIC EYE IN THE DVD PLAYER, FIRED THE 60" MITSUBISHI UP AND STARTED JAMMING ALONG. THE LONGER I PLAYED I REALIZED THAT I WAS ALITTLE QUICK TO JUDGE... I'M HERE TO TESTIFY THAT THIS MIJ VERSION OF THIS GUITAR IS NO LESS THAN OUTRIGHT FUN TO PLAY. THE BRIDGE PICK-UP DOES PERFORM ALITTLE BETTER THAN THE NECK, BUT WHO USES THE NECK PICK-UP ANYWAY.THE STRING THROUGH BODY IS GREAT. I HAVE A TENDENCY OF LAYING MY HAND ON THE FLOYED ROSE, AND SOMETIMES I GET A SOUND THAT SOUNDS LIKE I'M FLOATING IN WATER [WAVY].THE STRING THROUGH IS JUST THE SET-UP I NEED. THE GUITAR STAYS IN TUNE ALOT BETTER. I SHOULD HAVE MADE THE SWITCH ALONG TIME AGO. THE FLOYED ROSES LOOK GREAT, BUT THESE STRING THRU STAY IN TUNE ALOT BETTER. I LIKE THE LIGHT WEIGHT OF THE GUITAR. AT FIRST I THOUGHT THE WEIGHT WOULD AFFECT THE SOUND. WRONG AGAIN... THE WEIGHT IS JUST RIGHT. THE LOOK IS AWSOME. LIKE I MENTIONED BEFORE I USE THE ROLAND CUBE 30, AND 60. THESE AMPS ARE HOT AND SOUND GREAT TOO. YOU DON'T NEED ANY PEDALS, IT HAS BUILT IN EFFECTS.I JUST PATCHED THE 60 INTO THE 30, AND WHAT A SOUND. PUT THEM SIDE BY SIDE OR SPREAD THEM APART, YOU HAVE A VERY NICE SOUND. EACH AMP HAS IT'S OWN SOUND. WOW. WHAT A IDEA. BACK TO THE GUITAR. I'M GIVING THIS JEWEL OF A GUITAR A 10 ACROSS THE BOARD. MY ONLY GRIPE IS PUT THE REAL MC'COY'S INSTEAD OF THE DUNCAN DESIGED PICK-UPS.ALSO JACKSON [FENDER] THROW IN A CASE, FOR THIS LITTLE JEWEL, IT WOULD HAVE MADE A HELL OF A PACKAGE DEAL. This is a guitar that sounds great considering how little I paid for it. It'll come into it's zone when playing through an amp with a lot of distortion and is better suited to heavy/thrash metal styles. The neck is well suited for allowing you to really tear the fretboard to pieces with lightning quick thash solos, the jumbo frets really allow you to get down to the last frets.

I had to have the action adjusted in the store, although I'm not sure if this is due to careless factory settings or because the guitar had been sitting on a rack for so long. Other than that everything was fine.

This guitar looks and sounds great on stage, although you'll probably have a hard time with the input jack's location, although special cables are available in shops to help this problem. Also, the strap locations are slightly bothersome for live playing.
The guitar itself is solid, definitely built to withstand live playing. This is a guitar, like most Jacksons, that has been built to last. It is very dependable but you should always have a back-up guitar, or at least some spare strings, handy just in case.

I've been playing for just about 3 years and have owned a few other guitars. This is my first V, and I am extremely pleased with it. If it were stolen I would definitely buy this again (but not before tracking down the f**ker who stole it!).
I seriously love the V shape, although the input jack and strap locations can be annoying. There is nothing I specifically hate about this guitar. Jackson are a seriously reliable manufacturer so this guitar is unlikely to fail even the most brutal of guitar players. An excellent purchase for any guitar player!

Neck: Jumbo Frets, Maple, Rosewood fingerboard, quite thin and flat profile : 0.775 at first fret, at 12th fret: 0.810.
I'm quite satisfied with all but the volume and tone buttons, they suck ass and keep falling off the guitar. The inputjack is also kinda
misplaced I think, cracked up a few cables of mine. The rest is great.

I play lots of different music, mostly 80's trash but also some death of the 90's such as Morbid Angel and Hypocrisy. The Bridge pickup sounds ok but It's not loud enough for me and I want a clearer tone, mostly for leads. It sounds a bit thin, but could be worse.
Neck pickup is good for clean play, although not crystal clear at all, dirty it sounds like shit. Good for blues if you're into it but you're not buying this guitar if you like blues, or are you?
I'm changing the bridge pickup for Duncan Distortion but I'll keep the neck pickup.

When I bought this guitar, the action was a little high, the strings where old and crappy as hell. Pickups were adjusted fine, no problem there.
I had a little problem adjusting the action but when I finally had managed to do so, the guitar was worth it BIG TIME. I love the V-shape, much better looking than other Flying V's. I adore the neck,
It's thin and comfortable and perfect for both Rythm and Lead playing. It's quite easy to reach high frets, not like the Epiphone's.
It's built for playing fast and so light that ever your mom can play it.

I'm afraid to chip one of the wings while playing live but I guess it will be alright if I'm just a little careful. The inputjack is a real pain in the ass, I'm afraid that it's gonna crack my cable during the gig so I'm gonna buy a new special shaped one. It has killer looks and monster playability so I'm convinced almost everyone can make a career as a rockstar with this axe.

I've played guitar for 7 years now and I own a Hughes and Kettner Warp 7 212 amp. The amp is far to bassy and sounds Neometal as hell so I run guitar into a Boss MT-2 pedal, this pedal kicks ass, perfect Trash sound. The only thing I regret that I didn't ask about was getting special cable for the all crappy input jack.
If it was stolen I would cry like a baby and try to hang my self or something 'cause I can't afford another one. If I found out who stole it, the person would wish he was dead. If I could afford another I would buy a KV2 or just another KvX10. If I could get one of those old Ibanez V's from the late 80's, I would buy it instead.
I really recommend this guitar, kicks all other V-guitars but jackson KV2, seriously , don't buy the Rhoades model, this model Is so much better in all ways.
I've mention it a couple of times already, Inputjack = CRAPP, Humbuckers not pefect. Everything else is very good.
I've compared it to following guitars: ESP LTD V-350, Jackson RX10, Jackson RR3, Jackson KV4 (I think?) and Washburn dimebag signature cheap ass guitars. Dimebag signature where also good, I thought of buying one at first but changed my mind 'cause i didn't want a signature series guitar. The ESP had faaaaaaaaar to thick neck, large body and where much heavier. I don't know why I didn't like Randy Rhoades model, just 22 frets, wanted a real V guitar but otherwise I think RR3 was quite ok and pretty similar to KVX10 except for 22 frets VS 24 frets. I've planned to buy a Dimebag signature as second guitar but I also thought of a Ibanez with wizard neck, don't know really what to do.. Mail me with suggestions please!
If I could get more feutures for the same price I wish it had Neckthrough, Seymour duncan pickups, A bit thinner neck (Even more speed =D) and inputjack that where placed on the left wing or on the body. But I think it's impossible to make such a great guitar at same price........

the guitar was set up pretty well. the action isn't as good as it could be but reasonably good.
it has a black finish. I've bumped it hundreds of times and it never dints or scratches. it would be really hard to seriously damage the paint work.

The one thing that really bugged me about this guitar was the lack of a thru neck, granted, the existing neck is still great but you really expect a thru neck on a Flying V. I'm assuming a bolt on neck was chosen to keep the costs of making the guitar down. Otherwise at #350 this guitar is an absolute steal.

I mainly play speed metal(Megadeth, Old MetallicA, Testament etc) and this guitar is practically tailor made for it. Afterall Dave Mustaine played Jackson King V's for fifteen years before going to E.S.P.
I play via a Morley Pro Series Wah into my Marshall AVT150 and i manage to get a fairly good metal sound from this setup despite the Marshall being a pretty shite amp.
The Duncan Designed pickups totally surprised me. I didn't expect them to sound half as good as they do with distortion. The HB-103B bridge pickup has a resonably high output and delivers a lot of bass and treble. You can expect the kinda "Countdown To Extinction" distortion with the bridge pickup selected. The HB-102N neck pickup isn't quite as high in output as it's bridge conterpart but the set of Duncan Designed pickups are easily the best stock pickups I've heard. Both pickups, however, produce lots of feedback without being too noisy suggesting that they have a high output. I think the HB-103B is modelled on the Seymour Duncan Disortion and the HB-102N is modelld on the Seymour Duncan Jazz. The pickups are also capable of producing a wide range of harmonics which once again complements this guitar's ability to play metal.
Clean, the guitar doesn't sound so great and this is why i only give the guitar a nine for sound. But then most people who play this guitar will use distortion 90% of the time anyway so, if you've got a guitar that sounds god clean, buy this guitar.

The guitar was set up perfectly when i bought it. I changed the strings when i got it home and i don't get any fret buzz or choking any where on the fretboard. The action is pretty low, i haven't changed it since i bought the guitar. The fret wire kinda seems "smaller" than i'm used on my Ibanez RG570 and i find this guitar is more playable towards the higher frets.
The finish was totally flawless! There's no sinking of the paint work anywhere on the body or the headstock and the fret were finisher very nicely. I dunno what the skarkfin inlays are (i doubt they're real mother of pearl) but they look the dog's bollocks anyway.
The string to pole piece alignment is almost perfect which is an amazing thing to get on a guitar in this price bracket.
Everything else about the guitar is perfect in this department.

This guitar will definatley withstand live playing.
The finish looks like it'll last, I've banged the guitar a few times already I haven't even chipped the fins yet.
The strap buttons are pretty solid but i'll change them to fit strap locks on the guitar when I need to gig with it.
play an Ibanez RG570 and i bought the Jackson as a back up guitar. Now the Jackson will probably become my main guitar but then i tend to do a lot of Floyd Rose tricks so the Jackson may remain a backup guitar.

I've only been playing for five years, I've had a few Fenders and Ibanez before and this is the best guitar I've played especially for sound.
If it were stolen, I'd be fucked but I probably would buy this guitar again.
There isn't much to compare this guitar too! The Epiphones I played don't come close to this guitar, nor does the B.C Rich Body Art's Junior V. I'd like to have tried the X-series Randy Rhoads V but, given the choice, I'd still have bought the King V.
As I said before It'd have been cool to have a thru neck on this guitar but it's not the end of the world; I'd say the improvement in sound and playability makes up for the bolt-on neck.
If in doubt BUY THIS GUITAR anyway, you won't regret it.

It's pretty standard, very simple(which I like). I really love the neck, it's very fast. When I bought it, the guitar came with a couple of duncan design pickups, they were definetly great pickups and I would probably still be very happy with the guitar, had I kept them in. I replaced them with emgs of course, and 81 in the bridge, and 85 in the neck, and it definitly sounds better. EMG'S RULE, there is no debating this. The guitar although simple still rules, it doesn't need alot of features.

MINT!!! I play heavy/thrash metal (megadeth, slayer, old sepultura etc) and this guitar is pretty good. Good thick sound for cheapo stock humbuckers. I use a crappy, messed up marshall mg15, and it sounds good on that!!! The humbuckers are totally noise-less, very clear. I do not like the clean sound at all! But i think my pickups need adjusting cos it sounds very dull and lifeless on clean settings. Harmonics are a bit poor compared to my SQUIRE:-0 (again, i think my pickups need sorting out or something)
All in all it sounds very good for the price, if you're into metal then jackson are for you.

SHITE!!! I could not believe how bad this guitars condition was when i got it home and played on it! The strings were touching the frets!!! I've adjusted the bridge, but there is still a lot of buzzing!!! The truss rod must be out. Pickups were "cock-eyed"!!! And in my opinion this guitar should of been made a "2nd" cause there are quite a few flaws. There is glue on the fret board near the top end, there are saw marks too, both on the neck and on the nut! There are a few "dings" on the head stock.
The finish is far too thin on mine, i dropped my frigging pick on the head stock and the bloody thing CHIPPED it!!! what the hell?!?
I droped a cd (a cd with no case) and it chipped the body, which pissed me right off!!!
Shark teeth inlays look BLOODY GREAT!!!

I aint had the guitar that long and apart from what i mentioned above, the guitar is pretty mint. The guitar will piss easily withstand live playing, just try not to touch it or it might chip! The hardware is decent and fairly solid. For me, i think the finish is far to thin and will wear off due in due time, i aint bothered cos it'll add a "vintage" look to the guitar. Strap buttons aint going anywhere soon, they're solid. I'll get some strap locks for it though. I'd use it without a backup easily, what can go wrong? string break??? BOO HOO Guitar stays in tune very well.

Sounds awesome for a 'budget guitar' i can get harmonics out easier with these cheap ass stock pups better than my KV3 with seymour duncan dimebucker. altho the sound quality just insn't the same as the dimebucker it is a good sound.
there isn't much negative to say about the sound apart from there isn't enough difference between the neck and bridge pickup as i would like.
but for the price range you can easily plug it into a boss mt-2 and a shitty litle practice amp and chugg along to old metallica or shred out some slayer and if you still sound shit then dont blame the guitar, its beacause you suck....but at least you look cool.

it was set up good out of the box altho i wish it came with a set of .10's rather than .9's but thats my personal taste nothing to do with the set-up so ill move on. the pickups were quite high but again thats how i like them so no problem there and if it was its fixed within 2 mins.
so i guess i was lucky because apart from personal taste to how my guitar is set up there was nothing wrong

ok this guitar is lighter than my KV3 so it tends to nose dive more than the KV3 but its no real problem. the volume knob like all jacksons tends to be in the way altho i never have problems with but i can see people who play differently to me having them so ill mention it. the strap buttons are solid but i use a locking strap anyway. i would and plan to play live with it and yes i would bring a back-up because of things like string breaks etc. but it does seem like a solid enough guitar to gig without if you havent got a back-up.

i play it straight into a marshall mg50dfx (i have no need for pedals) and it sounds excellent. ok the DD pups will have to be replaced at some point but for now they do their job better than any other stock pups i have played. the neck it totaly awesome you really have to try it yourself just to see how fast it is, killer for solos. the neck pup is shit distorted in my opinion but it has a very nice clean sound, its smooth and clear. the bridge is ok clean and very good distorted considering the price range. its nice for fast thrash riffs and solos.

Features: Great finish on this one. Gotta love the sharkfin inlays! The only drawback is that it can be a bit difficult playing a guitar like this sitting down-definitely not for the couch-ridden guitarist. Mine came with a hardshell case which are a huge pain in my ass. Great for protection during extended periods, but damn people, make a gig bag! Loved the fast, thin neck, and the tunamatic style bridge is great as well as I have no need for anything involving a whammy bar.

I like the sound I get out of this. I play pretty much all brands of metal, and this guitar works well for that genre. I run through an old Charvel amp with a DOD FX86 pedal for distortion, and this guitar handles it well. The only problems I've had have been regarding some bad cables, not the guitar.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

I have no clue how the factory set up was, as I had the store I got it from give it a once over and a tune up before I took it off of their hands. Everything was set up fine when they turned it over though, so I have no complaints. There was supposed to be a flaw in the finish, as I got this a bit cheaper that way, but I don't notice it. I'll give it a 9 because there is a scratch somewhere.
Reliability/Durability
:
10
This one has held up well for the past two years. I RARELY if ever have to tune it, and the finish has remained bright and shiny, although I do give it an occasional polish for good measure. Strap buttons are solid. Don't play in a band at the moment, but I have given it quite a beating and it handles well with no problems whatsoever.

Well, I did get it straight from Jackson, via my local store, and the guy they worked with was able to get me one straight from the factory, albeit a blemished unsellable one (due to the aforementioned insignificant scratch). Otherwise I'd have had to wait a while because these were on backorder for like 4 months at the time.

I also own a KV-2, and this one is just as good. If you are looking for a relatively cheap, but still excellent quality guitar, go with this one. If you don't like the King V body, be sure to check out the rest of Jackson's X-Series. Affordable and durable, too bad they didn't sell the company to The Mouth Almighty!

This guitar is totally awesome. The 24 fret neck is very fast. The sharkfin inlays look awesome, but that's my opinion. The V body looks real cool, and its not real heavy. The tune o matic bridge is pretty cool, better than I expected. It stays in tune very well. It was built in Japan, so the quality is much nicer than the Indian ones. A reversed headstock wouldve looked really cool. The only thibg that really bothers me is where the input jack is. It is on the bottom fin and sticks out at a 90 degree angle. Its not a problem if you stand, but if you sit it jabs into your leg. I wish they would have made it flush with the top fin like the old Dave Mustaine models.

The sound is pretty good. The duncan designed pups arent bad for stock. The nech pup on a clean channel is very clear. I give it a 9.5. The bridge with distortion is ok, but better than most guitars in its price range. I give the bridge pup a 7.5. It just sounds a little muddy sometimes. Ill probably buy an SD Dimebucker for the bridge cause thatll rock, but Ill leave the neck pup alone. It sounds pretty good for metal, but the clean is very good.

The action was almost perfect for me. Its low, but not as low as my Ibanez was. Everything was set up very nicely. The only problem here was a small paint chip on the fin, but I think that came from GC because it hung about 2 inches above a stack of amps. But its real little and hardly noticable.

This guitar is very high quality. The only problem is the paint chip I mentioned earlier. I'm not in a band but this guitar seems more then able to take abuse from live playing. The strap buttons are very solid. Just get a leather strap, it tends to nosedive a little bit, but the leather strap keeps it in place better.

Havent had to deal with them. So they get another 10 for very high quality. Rock on Jackson!

I've been playing about a year and a half. My other guitar is an Ibanez RG120. If this guitar were stolen, I would probably save up for a KV2 instead. Neck through, ebony board, OFR and other stuff like that that just won't come on a $400 guitar. I spent about 3 months searching for just the right guitar, and this is it.

Die-Cast tuners(stay in tune well enough), shark-Fin inlays(just make it look better serves no other purpose) , 24 fret(great for soling) , string thru body tunomatic bridge ( easy for drop tuning an dtuning back up ) alder wood (same as the jackson Randy Rhoads) body.
Duncan Design pickups.
remember this is a gutiar there is only so many features you can have on it and remember no every likes shark fin inlays so just because it's sharkfin inlay it means it's a good guitar. gutiars such as Ibanez are good to the bone they have excellent playabilty's on those thing but no shark fin it's just as good or even better.

the Duncandesign pickups on it sounds great. only problem was that the output wasn't loud enough for me. so there for i went out and brought two emg81's slap them on and waaala loud enough now.
other then that no dislikes at all
nothing is forever if u don't like the sound u can change it anytime . but the important thing is that you like the neck of the guitar.
and most importnatly if it sounds bad it's not the guitar or the amp , so do be blaming the guitar or the amp it's you that suck.

step up to play rough and heavy rythem, not bad for soloing.
fits to play standing , light weight guitar u can run jump or do other "rockStar" moves that you do.
even tho the action was good i had to adjusted casue i solo like a mofo i lowered and adjusted the neck to to go with the lower action and now Waala again i got it perfect.
the neck on this beast is made for this guitar, i really cant' explaine to you, you have to go try one out for your self.

ummm guitars are meant for playing not being looked at like porno.
if you don't mind minor scratches or dents it's great guitar should last long (don't get me wrong the gutiar itself dont' come with any of those but people do consider scratches and dents gutiar's fault)

1) it's good if you know how to play and actually know the guitar.
2) it looks cool if you don't
3) it sucks if you suck and you need something to blame it on

Made in India. fast, 24-fret neck with those killer jackson sharkfin inlays. one volume, one tone, and a 3-way selector control the two Duncan Designed HB-103 humbuckers (modeled after Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortions). The strings go thru the body and a tune-o-matic bridge, all the way up the ebony fingerboard on the maple neck to the Jackson tuning machines. i bought a black one at a guitar center green tag sale and they gave me a Jackson King V/Rhoads hardshell case. What a deal.

I play mostly metal and some rock and blues and this guitar suits me PERFECTLY. I run it through a Boss V-Wah and into my Peavey 5150 2X12 combo amp. IT rocks. The pickups sound extrememly fat and are very quiet. I replaced the bridge pickup with a Seymour Duncan Dimebucker, and it sounds even better (IF THAT'S POSSIBLE). I love the sound of this guitar.

Factory setup is great. Props to Jackson on this one. Action was nice and low, but not buzzy at all, finish was deep and dark, just how any black guitar should be. MY only conplaint is the deepness of the nut slots, but that's just personal preference, it doesn't affect the sound or playability at all because the shape at the bottom of each slot is perfect.

I've been playing for a year and a half and i have a 95 squier strat that i completely redid with a warmoth neck and an EMG-81 in the bridge and it still doesn't come close to my jackson. IF my King V were ever stolen, I'd kill whoever stole it and send their bones to the Jackson custom shop ao they could make me a new all-human-bone KVX10. I Love my JAckson and i STRONGLY reccommend that you go buy one right now. I only wish my jackson had a reverse headstock and black hardware to make it look even more NASTY then it already does. Other than that, IT IS AN EXCEPTIONAL AXE.

I bought this baby brand new. I haven't seen the KVX10 until 2001-2002; so I take it that its pretty damn recent. Its made in India. There are 24 frets, with 1 volume, 1 tone, and a 3-way selector. The pickups are Duncan Designed by Seymour Duncan. this guitar has a bolt on neck, with a beautiful black finish and sharkfin inlays. The bridge is a tune-o-matic. Non-Locking tuners.

First of all, I play a hell of a lot of Megadeth. And this guitar is perfect for it. It sounds great for anything thrash metal or hard rock. I'm using the KVX10 with a Crate mx120r amp. The sound is amazing and you can do almost anything.

It suits my style perfectly. I play lots of Megadeth and metallica judas priest. My amps a laney tf300. and use a boss mt2 metal zone and jim dunlop cry baby. this combination gives me one hell of a classic metal sound. i also have a epi les paul standard for a thicker tone but for thrash the jackson all the way

Dependable guitar hardware is built to last. finish seems a little thin. im going to put strap locks on even though the buttons feel solid anyway. I bought this ax so i could use my les paul as bacj up and for variety. You cant play priest on a les paul and look the part.

Basic Setup of 2 humbuckers, 1 vol, 1 tone, 3 way selector switch. Seymour Duncan P/U's. Jackson Tuners, 24 fret, sharkfin inlays, Bolt on neck, Classic Dave Mustaine King V shape body! Tune o matic bridge, chrome hardware. The shape rules, but the neck makes this catagory deserve a 10 rating however the basic setup does not offer any pointless features.

Great for playing metal, I suppose blues, Great clean sound on neck p/U, I use this with a Marshall JCM 50 and Marshall 4x12 (Built 1987 apparently the Model Slash used before signature Marshall!) and a Korg AX300g multi effects. Love this guitar, sounds like what I want to Play (Megadeth, Metallica sound. Full & Bright sound. Perfect for me.

Factory Setup Perfect! Action is perfect great for Heavy rythym and amazing for Solo's of the Widdly Kind! Full on Jackson quality - no flaws even though its not the top of the range King V. The neck is slick fast, and plays very well.

Definately withstand live playing, but have another Jackson as Backup, Very solid guitar, Stays in tune after alot of punishment, finish seems very thick, Ive swapped the strap buttons for straplocks (Much recommended due to V shape and strap button positions) Probably would use it without a backup but Id definately take spare strings! just in case.

The only thing that slightly disappoints about this purchase is that it does not come with a hard case, it wont fit in a regular case, its too wide and needs a fitted King V case I guess. Definately buy it again if lost or stolen, If I get a pay rise I will probably buy the dearer model with a Floyd Rose and Silver grey finish, but love this guitar. Jackson quality is so reliable, this guitar is better than any PRS or ESP or vintage Gibson or Strat that I have ever played (and thats a lot!) amazing value, would actually consider paying more for it, great playability, great sound amazing look, Superb!
