This sweet axe was ordered in January 2001, and it has just arrived recently (April 2002). Brand New 22 jumbo fret Randy Rhodes RR1 with Hot Rod Flame graphic, neck through body construction, ebony fretboard with mother of pearl sharkfin inlays, Seymour Duncan SH-2 (neck) and TB-4 (Bridge) pickups, and original Floyd Rose Bridge system. The guitar came with a massive beautiful case (looks like a keyboard case).
Sound
:10
I plugged it into my Marshall JCM2000 DSL100, and it totally changed my sound to pure METAL. This guitar totally screams at high volumes. Very smooth yet heavy distortion. I play original classic Heavy Metal and plug straight into the amp. The only effects that I use are delay and equalizer in the effecs loop of the amp. The guitar isn't noisy at all. There is absolutely nothing I dislike about this guitar.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
The guitar was set up perfectly at the factory. The finish is flawless and the action is just perfect. I couldn't ask for anything more. This guitar came from Jackson's Custom Shop, so I really didn't expect to see any flaws.
Reliability/Durability

This guitar looks very solid, and if dropped, I don't think much would happen to it, except maybe the upper wing might chip if dropped in that position. Hardware looks like it will last and stand up to the test of time. I never gig without a backup, for the sole reason of having a Floyd Rose. Anything can happen with those bridges.

Been playing 10 years and own a few amps, Marshall DSL 100 and a crate blue voodoo on it's way. If it were stolen I'd buy another one with the insurance money right away. I chose this guitar because of it's playability. It's very comfortable and light as compared to my BC Rich Warlock. Totally happy with this purchase.

2000 model RR1 in Metallic Black. 22 frets on an ebony board. Quartersawn maple neck through body design. Two Duncan Humbuckers, 3 way switch. The bound neck with pearl inlays is beatiful, as is the bound headstock. Came with an original Floyd Rose bridge and a Jackson hard case.
Sound
:10
I run my RR1 through a Mesa/Boogie and together they scream. This is the most perfect hard rock/metal guitar I've ever played. It has the look and sound required for metal. The neck is the most playable I've ever used...the feel is consistent from top to bottom. Great access to all frets and the feel of the frets is top notch. I also own a Jackson SL2H and the fret dressing is of the same high caliber. The Duncan pickups are very well voiced for this guitar. The bridge humbucker is very well rounded in sound, it can go from scream to mean. The neck pickup is very smooth, not a lot of gain but it delivers a fantastic clean sound. The sustian is long and clean at any volume or gain setting. Lots of variety available in the sounds, but the look of the guitar kind of limits it to rock/metal. You could play some nice smokey jazz on that neck pickup with the tone rolled back, but you'd look a retard.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
Without question the lowest action I have ever played. No buzz anywhere on the neck, whether played amplified or acoustic. The pickup height was ideal, and the Floyd was very well adjusted. All pots and switches work cleanly and quietly. The inlays were well seated, no gobs of glue anywhere. Very well done.
Reliability/Durability
:10
Be careful where you play as the long wing is a huge mother and it will bump into everything in its path. The finish is very durable and thick, it will take a beating. Huge strap buttons are a nice addition. I rotate this guitar and my SL2H, so both are my main squeezes, and neither is a back-up.

I bugged the hell out of Jackson waiting for delivery and every time we spoke they were polite and courteous. I have not used the warranty. Excellent customer support. The Jackson/Charvel forum is a great place for real world advice from Jackson players.

Twenty years of playing and buying guitars has brought me to this point in my life. I now only play/buy USA Jackson's. I recently sold my Wolfgang to bring an SL2H in to my home and my EBMM Van Halen model goes on ebay in March '02. A KV2 and Y2KV are next. The quality can not be beaten for the price. Made in the USA neck through body guitars with Duncan pickups and ebony boards for the price of a bolt on neck Japanese strat. Believe the hype, USA Jackson's rule.

USA Select, built in May of 1999, originally all black, Pile-o-Skulls graphic applied by Jackon post-sale in July of the same year. Alder body provides considerable sustain despite the "v" body style. Used to have one volume/two tone... rewired to an RR3 configuration with two volume/one tone a la Randy Rhoads "flip-switch". Seymour Duncan passive pickups (can't remember the designations). Maple neck, I believe, ebony fingerboard with pearl sharkfin inlays and headstock namesake. Original Floyd Rose Tremolo system, locking nut, 22 1/2" scale length. Came with a case... purchased used.
Sound

I play mostly my own stuff, based on Ozzy (obviously), old Metallica... I'm basically a 32 year old skid, and this is the guitar. Been a Fender fan for over 15 years when I discovered a Dinky, then moved on to an RR3, then an RR1. Used with a pretty cheesy Peavey Supreme head through a 4x12 Peavey slant cab. My amp is noisy, the guitar is not. It's very mellow... I've played jazzy and bluesy lines through it, and it sings beautifully. Distorted, it rings long with a thick sound, but not muddy. Pretty easy to coax just about any sound out of it, except for some obscure natural harmonics (14th fret, for example), but this may be the amp's fault.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
When I brought this guitar home, there was a bow in the neck, the action was laying on the neck (literally), intonation was screwed... it was just a mess. Pickups were drawn deep into the body... all this I blame on the previous owner and the reseller for ignoring such an abomination. Once I did a set up, realigned the neck and all, it showed its true colors. I change the strings, and I tune it once. That's all. This is a FAST guitar.
Reliability/Durability
:9
This guitar has never given me any trouble live, but I'd never play without a backup, because string changes take a lifetime. Any changes I make to this guitar will be based on changing preference, not on necessity. The finish is thick and hard, with a good gloss, attracts fingerprints like a brass doorknob, though. Strap pins were a bit shaky, but tightened nicely. This and a 2000 Cherry Sunburst Les Paul are my two main guitars, because both are fun, obey my commands, and are very reliable.
Customer Support
:8
I've dealt with this reseller many times in the past, and they're quite helpful. They actually did the rewire job, and it came out very nice. Dealt with Jackson only when I tried to get a history on it, and they were very helpful. This guitar is not under warranty.

I've been playing since August, 1985. Have BOSS GT3 processor through 100 watt Peavey Supreme head, 300 watt 4x12 cab. Also use Dean "Z" Supreme (explorer, gold hardware, neck thru), Gibson Les Paul Standard (cherry sunburst), Dean performer 12 string acoustic, Washburn bass, etc. Knowing me, if I lost this guitar, I'd turn white, cry for a little bit, get really drunk, then buy something else. This baby's irreplaceable. I love the look, the speed, the quality, the sound. I hate that it doesn't come with an optional grenade launcher. This guitar had the best neck I'd ever seen, with very easy access to the higher frets... no cutaway required.
This may sound like a very glowing report, but I'm very particular about what I play, and this thing passed all my little quirky tests. I'm convinced I can drag this baby behind my car from Halifax to Vancouver and it would stay in tune, with not a mark on the finish except for the FINGERPRINTS!!

Jackson Randy Rhoads RR1. Made in 1987 in the USA shop. The RR1 has 22 Frets on a bound ebony fingerboard that has sharkfin inlays. The body of the guitar is alder, and the neck is maple, but is painted gloss black just like the body and the headstock of the guitar. There is 1 Master Volume Knob, and 2 Tone Knobs. The Pickups are Seymour Duncans, specifically an SH2 in the neck position and a TB4 in the bridge position. The bridge is an Original Floyd Rose Tremelo. The tuners are just standard black Schaller tuners.

I play mostly heavy metal and some acoustic stuff. This guitar suits me very well for metal. The body shape is very comfortable and the guitar is very light. I use a 1970 Yamaha 100-watt, which I modified to 200 watts. I also use a Boss MT-2 Metal Zone, Ernie Ball Volume Pedal, Morley Steve Vai Bad Horsie 2 Wah, Dunlop Cry Baby Wah, and an Ibanez DL5 Digital Delay. The guitar is very quiet. No feedback at all. The sound is really thick and crunchy on distortion. It sounds great. The clean sound is amazing too. I like everything about this guitar...plus I've been looking for this specific model for 3 years and I finally found one.

The action on the guitar is set up perfect. Its right where I like it, really low without buzzing. The pickups were also perfect. The bridge is routed properly. The guitar is flawless.

This guitar would definitely withstand live playing without a doubt. The hardware and the finish will definitely last. The strap buttons are very solid but I use Strap Locks on all my guitars. I can definitely depend on the guitar for recording, shows, or just straight out jamming. I would never play a gig without a backup.

Manufactured 3/1998 at the Ontario, CA shop. 22 frets, solid body neck-through metallic black. Seymour Duncan Jazz-Neck and JB-Bridge, 1 volume, 2 tone. Orignal Floyd Rose full floating and routed. Jackson Gotoh style tuners. Beautiful ebony bound neck with genuine mother of pearl shark fin inlays and genuine abalonie shell "Jackson" inlay on the headstock.

Pure Metal. Guitar to Morley wah to Mesa Boogie Subway Rocket, straight forward and simple. The tone and sound are solid as could be expected. The RR1 was perfect upon purchase with no adjustments made by the store or otherwise. The action was "there", not to low and not to high. Practically no string buzz anywhere and never any more than should have been. Electronics quiet. Great sustain, see below. Dislike the possibility of getting it scratched!

Guess I already covered some of these things. What the hell, have been playing for about 14 years and it was truly an honor to have a USA Jackson...the quality of the newer USA made guitars are second to none. The parts, action, electronics were perfect. I still haven't scene any flaws, poor fit, loose controls etc. The funny thing is that the RR1 looks like an ugly "Metal" guitar to most people but feels and plays like a fine instument none the less
Reliability/Durability

No problems so far at all. It feels solid as any other and more so than most guitars. I have played my share and some just don't feel like they'll be there the next day. The RR1 again feels solid. Who would play a gig without a backup anyway. Well not because this one would fail you. It wouldn't unless you're playing tired strings.

Haven't had to deal with them at this point. My best friend just e-mailed Jackson letting them know that there was a discrepency in their advertising. The website was showing the Y2KV guitar as having a maple body when in fact it has a mahogany body. Jackson said thanx and changed the website to say mahogany.

14-15 years, also own a 1995 Jackson Dinky Reverse loaded with Duncans and an original Floyd Rose. If it were stolen or lost I'd go hunting. This guitar plain and simple feels sweet. Forgive the word but you know it when you feel it. The action and playability are second to none. Someday I would love to have a custom made Jackson but until then this is is close as it gets.

This is my 91 USA Jackson Rhoads V. Mother of Pearl inlays on an Ebony fretboard. Has 21 frets solid top 2 vol 1 tone 3 way gibson selector. The pickups are weak jackson humbuckers (covered). It's made of alder and maple neckthru. Schaller floyd rose(the best). It has a thin but not too thin neck contour and a case.

Okay well I really was unhappy with the way the stock Jacksons sounded, I didn't expect them to know how to make great pickups! Well anyways, I bought a Dimarzio X2N and smacked it into the bridge, and oh my stars! It's light and day, this thing sings now. It sounds soo sweet now, has massive bass response and sparkling treble, absolutly perfect for the Metal I play. This guitar is now complete, it is the best sounding and playing guitar I have pickued up yet.

I bought this used so i set everything up myself. The routes and wiring are all very stable, there are no flaws at all on this guitar, I have never seen a USA jackson with any for that matter. The fret job is top notch, hardware is bulletproof, the tremolo stays in tune for weeks at a time. no loose controls no extra noise nothing at all! If you want all shit, buy an Ibanez, but if you like quality go for the USA Jackson.

This guitar will withstand WWIII. And i know that hardware will last, its amlmost 10 years old and it all looks brand new (except for floyd rose corrosion.) The finish is very nice on it and does not crack easily at all(no cracks.) The strap buttons are ok, but i always put them on guitars just in case. Once you get new pickups in it, it is the best guitar i have owned for basically anything but jazz. I do NOT listen to Ozzy or Rhoads (like everyone here likes to make sure we know, as if anyone gives a rip), I bought this guitar because the sound and shape were appealing. Exellent guitar. Would be an exellent addition to a Jackson Soloist ;)

I paid $800 for this guitar BRAND NEW! I was actually saving for an Ibanez JEm when I came across this price and knew I couldnt pass it up. I bought with the intention of selling and making a few hundred bucks but now I like this guitar so much that Im kinda in a bind wondering whetehr to sell or to keep.
This guitar has a very nice metal/hard rock sound. Even though the Floyd and the lack of wood takes a little away from the sutain, this sucker can still hold a note with the best of them. Trills, taps, harmonics, etc. is what this guitar was built to do. I am still leaning towards selling it but this guitar sounds excellent!
Action, Fit, & Finish

This is where this guitar prevails over most any others Ive played. The neck is so comfortable I could play the crazy train solo with my hand asleep. The action is effortless and the ebony fretboard is as smooth as silk. Their are a few things I dont like though. One, you cant play this guitar sitting down unless you want to be very uncomfortable. The guitar isnt too heavy and is balanced well though so if you usually stand up and play anyways, than this isnt a problem. Two, I dont dig the recessed tremolo. Ive always rested my hand on my tremolo when I play and cant on this guitar which causes me to play a little slower and makes my arm get tired. I guess I made thissind wrse than it really is because its not that big of a problem, it just gets on my nerves sometimes. And finally, for a guitar that you must stand up to play, your strap should fit it good and feel nice. It doesnt. Straps kinda twist a little and dont fit the strap buttons well on this guitar. I'm just pointing out all the things I dont like, their are a hundred more that I do. This is a GREAT player!

Ive been playing 6 and half years and this is the first top quality guitar I have owned. Like I said, it plays excellent and sounds great too...but I still will probably sell and make a few hundred. If it were stolen, Id be pissed that I was out a $1400 guitar but I wouldnt buy another one unless I found the same deal for the simple fact that you cnat sit down and play. If you spend most your time playing guitar standing up then this guitar is a 10 but if youre like me and like to kick back, watch a little tv, and play guitar then go for something else unless you can find the same kind of dela that I found.

This guitar is great without distortion, the neck pickup has a very sweet relaxed tone to it. But the bridge pickup is another story, it has no give to it! I have owned several fenders, ibanezes(even expensive ones are dirt!), and others. If it was stolen i would go the next day and search for a new one. The thing i like about this guitar is that it feels like it was custom built for me, the neck is perfect and everything is so slick on this thing. There is not one thing i would change about this guitar except that damn pickup! If you ever come across a USA Jackson for cheap, you should buy it, you will not be disappointed!

This is a 1998 Jackson USA Randy Rhodes RR-1. This guitar has the following features: 22 jumbo frets, mother of pearl sharkfin inlays and logo, neck-thru body construction, alder body with maply neck and ebony fingerboard, seymour duncan TB & SH humbuckers w/ 1V&2T controls via 3 way toggle switch, Original Floyd Rose double locking tremolo (black hardware). My RR-1 is finished in metallic black...came with this huge original hardshell case with tools, etc.
Sound
:9
This guitar surprisingly sounds great...most oddly shaped guitars have horrible tonal characteristics, but he RR-1 does sound nice. It has a good amount of sustain (attributed by the neck thru design) and also from the jumbo frets (those add to it), the pickups are medium to high output and are matched well (no noise whatsoever), can get high treble tone on bridge, and warm it up on the neck and also get a midway tonal range with the 2 in combination. When i play a harmonic, this guitar begs for something like that...if you drive a Ferrari or Maserati, it's imperative that you reach the performance envelope, otherwise, why buy it?...
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
The action is extremely low (without buzzing on the frets)...this is a fast/heavy player...so I bought this guitar from a dealer who had it sitting in the showroom for 2 years without a sale and it only has a couple of very light scratches on the back from people doodling in the stores...The pickups and tremolo routings are precisely cut, no cracks, no structural problems, the metallic black finish is very nice except it could be somewhat more pronounced (very subtle metallic flake) since you can only see it in a well lit environment.
I oiled the fretboard with lemon oil, made some adjustments, gave her a good cleaning and polishing, EVERYONE i know loves this guitar...The only dissapointment i have besides the metallic finish is the mother of pearl jackson logo...i have a custom shop soloist and if you compare the two "jackson" logos, the custom shop has a much more sculpted and styled logo with a deeper 3-d effect...the RR logo is nice (dont get me wrong) but if i get a chance, i would like to send this guitar to Jackson and have the logo re-done and also possible refinish the body to have the metallic finish more pronounced!!!
Reliability/Durability
:10
I own a Jackson Custom Shop Soloist (read my review) and play gigs with both of these guitars (i always have a redundant unit after learning the hard way)...The strap buttons are wide so they really hold onto the strap but i dont throw her around (stupid to do that) i dont see any reason why this guitar should fall apart. After each time i play my guitars, i clean off the strings, fretboard, etc., remove all the sweat, finger grit, smudge marks, etc., tune-ups and set-ups every 2 months (i keep a preventative maint. schedule), make sure the fretboard is oiled to prevent cracking of any kind...if you invest a good amount of money in anything, it would be wise to maintain your investment...i dont let my toys go to shit (im not walking this earth to incurr losses)

Haven't dealt with them (yet) but will soon since i have a custom shop order going through the works, so in that case, i would like to have my input since this guitar is being built based on my stringent specifications. Otherwise, I hear good things about Jackson...right now the only problem would be the long wait on getting your guitar and that's only due to the high demand in association with the time consuming and perfection process of building fine high-quality guitars made to meet the demands of the customer...go to any major mfr. of guitars and you will wait, i.e. Brian Moore has a 1 to 1.5 year wait on custom shop guitars, PRS is the same, Fender isn't too bad but you're buying a cookie cutter made guitar from them...
Im patiently waiting knowing that my demands are being met~~~~this would have had a better rating, but, i have to see first hand for myself

If it were stolen/lost/etc., i would definitely get another RR-1 but would go directly thru the custom shop to have it made exactly how i want it but my USA model is excellent as it is!
The look is awesome/aggressive/carnivorous (chicks love the V style)...after going thru fenders, gibsons, kramers, i found that JACKSON makes a guitar that fits my needs, therefore, i dont shop around for any other makes since i found my niche guitar....You absolutely get what you paid for it
