I wont go through all the details, sufficed to say it was a stock USA made jackson rr1 (2008).

2 Bad points:-
1. The stock pick-ups
2. The volume knob is in the most stupid place imaginable

Apart from these bad points the overall finish and design of the guitar is impecable

Sound : 3
With the stock pickups getting a decent sound was impossible for me, no low end and no clarity, just fuzz. I only ever use the neck pickup on guitars, and this one is obviously biased far towards the the trebley end.

I play through various overdrives into a single rectro mesa.

If you play metal (which is almost certain if you buy this guitar!) then I imagine you too will be disapointed?.....

I solved the problem by swapping with some active pickups (SD blackouts) which now sound great, almost as good as EMGs.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Again I had to pay a pro to set up the guitar the way I like it, but now that is done it couldnt possibly be better. I dont think I have ever played a neck so fast, it almost plays itself!

This is an expensive guitar though, I have played Ibanez wizard prestige necks that feel almost as good, so dont feel you have to fork out the big bucks to get a high speed shred machine.

The volume knob is in a ridiculous place, I can hardly play on the high e without hitting it, will swap the volume knob with one of the tone knobs tomorrow!

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Everything about the guitar feels solid, although I hear that if you break a string live the guitar goes out of tune which means that you have to restring and set it up again.

This effectively means that you are screwed if this happens and so you should have a reserve guitar.

I have spent alot of money on this guitar and I am not rich, so for me this is a long term investment.

In many ways I took a really big gamble buying it, because I hadnt played one beforehand. However, I do not regret it despite the few flaws. Just to reiterate the pros and cons...

Pros
-Looks amazing
-Plays like a dream
-Well balanced so it sits nice when you play standing up

Cons

-Pickups are rubbish
-Volume knob is in a stupid place
-You cant play sitting down (not a problem for me really)

hope this was helpful

I have a jackson RR1 lefty 2008.. :P
22 frets.. with the standard RR1 pick ups (SD)
Brilliant Black blue ghost flames finish.. absolutely amazing work
I am not going to rewrite the whole specifications

The Body style: at first it was difficult to adjust to it.. but within a week i pretty much got a hold of it.. People who don't know how to sit down with this guitar.. I have no words for you :D .. it is SOO easy once you get the hang of it...

the Floyd rose bridge is pretty neat as well... it stays completely in tune

Sound : 9
i play metal (thrash, doom, prog.. you get the point)... i think this guitar is more suited for this style of music than anything else... the guitar sounds SUPERB.. even though i play it through a marshall MG15DFX practice amp.

you can also get pretty good cleans from this as well... I played a les paul studio before ordering this one.. i prefer the RR1`s sound any day..

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9

It took around 6 months for the guitar to come..I had some fret buzz problems on the top E and D.. but it hollowed down after playing for a while. everything else seemed pretty alright... i think i got lucky as people on this site have complained about getting the wrong setting etc.

I don't really down tune all that much to low E and stuff... majority of the time its on standard and drop D tuning... and had no problem as such

finish is easily scratch able ... i got a couple of "chips" during its first week.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Cant really say anything about this ATM

I have been playing over 5 years now. i have an Ibanez RG370DXL.. a guitar which most left handers are known to use. funny thing is.. when i got this guitar... i actually thought it was not worth the money i payed for it. and thought RG370DXL was better on some occasions... HOW STUPID was i... after 2 months.. I have not picked up the Ibanez for a long time :D

If this guitar was stolen i would cry... and kill the person who stole it.. and prob collect for another 1 :[

if your a lefty : with the few choices we have... START COLLECTING NOW... that is the only advice i can give you..........

No-frills mid-80s RR1 back when they were still being made in California. It has a great deep, deep purple finish that almost looks black, you really have to catch it in the right light to see the color.

Volume for each pickup and one tone knob, easy and fast horizontal pickup switch. It has a locking nut, which I go back and forth between loving and hating on a daily basis. I think if I could change anything about the axe I would try and find a hardtail without a locking nut, but nothing's perfect.

Sound : 10
I play progressive rock/stoner metal/whatever you want to call it, I need a ton of gain. This is by far the best guitar I have ever owned or even played, and sound quality is a big part of that. Having a one piece neck-thru-body design means that it sustains for days. It's got very bright and distinct highs without becoming even close to obnoxious, with a big, booming low end. I play with a scooped EQ all the time so I don't even know how it sounds with a lot of mids, except that I don't like that sound with any guitar or amp. Either way, the cleans are wonderful. High gain settings are even better, with even 6-fret barre chords cutting through any kind of gain you can throw at it. I honestly think I got a rare one even among RR1s this thing sounds so good. I can think of no flaws whatsoever with the sound quality, so it deserves a perfect rating.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I have small hands so the neck seems a little bit big for me, but I can still execute five-fret stretches due to how fast and easy this guitar is to play. Especially compared to my Strat, this guitar seems to almost play itself. I can really relax and play my best, knowing that my guitar's action and playability is a big asset, rather than a detraction (again, I look at my Strat.)

It seems that the highest quality materials were used in building this guitar. I use my ears more than my eyes to determine quality, and this thing screams quality. I have a very early example of the model, though, so I can't speak for the quality they have now.

Since I bought used I have no idea how it came from the factory. I doubt you'd have problems, though.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar seems to be very durable. There is chipping of the finish on the tips of the V, but in a 20+ year old guitar, that is to be expected. As others have mentioned, I'm constantly banging the "spikes" into stuff, but I'm just a clumsy bastard anyway. It looks like everything has held up well over time, and I am very proud to own this wonderful instrument.

Never talked to these guys. If I did, I would thank them.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 13 years, and I currently own a PRS Custom 22 bolt-on, Fender 50th Anniversary Strat (awesome guitar, truly awesome, but doesn't fit the music I'm playing now), 2 Gibson SGs (barf, looking to offload, stumbled onto both of them and hate them), and the Jackson blows them all away, it's not even close. I use the PRS as a backup. It's a nice guitar, it's just that the RR1 is so great, it pretty much does anything the PRS can do, but better. The tones are similar enough that the PRS can stand in, but nothing I've ever played stands up to the Jackson.

I currently use a Line 6 Spider Valve HD100 head thru a generic-*** cabinet, and it's the best guitar tone I've ever had in my life. I've had three Mesa/Boogies, a Marshall JCM900, and numerous crappy amps, and though the RR1 sounds great through anything, I feel like a damn magician with the tone and playability I have now. The only thing to worry about is that my tone is so clear and distinct that if I make a mistake everyone will know. Time to practice!

You can't go wrong with Jackson. If you don't like the looks of the RR1, you should still try out something from them. You won't be disappointed.

2006 RR1 standard fare: Neck thru, 22 frets, double-locking OFR, Duncan JB and Jazz pup's, ebony board with mother of pearl inlays, 3-way switch, 1 volume & 2 tone controls, mine is a solid color guitar with black hardware. Everything I wanted. Nothing I didn't need.

Sound : 10
Surprisingly, this guitar cleans up really well with a massive bottom end and smooth treble. The volume and tone controls work great and make it easy to tweak the tone from blistering leads to clean, crisp barre chords. Cleaned up a bit, you hear every note. It also sustains very well.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Jackson really shines here. Ebony fretboard, real mother of pearl inlays, and precise fretwork that outshines some other popular US built guitars in this price range (with rosewood boards, "pearloid" inlays, and variable fretwork). The paint is also flawless on this guitar (just like my other two US made Jacksons). The action can be set very low without buzzing. I had little reservation buying it before playing it. US Jacksons are well worth the asking price!

Reliability/Durability : 10
You gotta watch out for those extended points! ;>)

Seriously: it's giggable right out of the box. Although I put strap Schaller locks on it, Jackson mounts oversized stap buttons on these so they won't get away from you. Like I said, all the hardware is top notch. You can't build great guitars with pot metal castings and low buck electronics.

With these guitars, you get what you pay for!

Customer Support : No Opinion
They only use the best parts on the US made guitars, so I've never had to ask Jackson for warranty work.

Overall Rating : 10
As pointed out in some of the other reviews, this might not be the most practical shape guitar body, but it balances well while standing. The strap button placement makes it tilt a bit away from your body a little, but after a while it didn't bother me at all.

I've been playing electric guitars since the mid 60's and have owned a good number of guitars over the years. All my US Jacksons are well built and play like a dream. These aren't your "classic" 50's guitars by any means. They are refined machines with an attitude. It's good to see a company like Jackson making no compromises in how they build their products. A worthy legacy, indeed.

I've had my U.S.A. Rhoads for about two and a half years now. It has the standard features every other factory U.S.A. Rhoads has {ebony board, duncans, neck through and MOP inlays, 3 way selector switch.} Mine has the snake skin finish and it is absolutely flawless. It has the floating Floyd opposed to the fixed bridge model. My only complaint is that I dont like the dual tone and one volume control, I much rather have a tone and independent volume controls. I guess this could be easily fixed I just have not done it. Other than that, no complaints whatsoever.

Sound : 9
I play a lot of 80s metal and I am a huge, huge fan of the guitars namesake {Randy Rhoads} so this guitar obviously does very well replicating these styles. I have noticed though that this guitar is very noisy with the amp at full volume but I guess most axes are. This guitar has a very clean tone but the range of sound isn't quite what I thought it would be. This axe doesnt have the midrenge tones that I thought it would on the clean setting. I guess an external multi-band E.Q. would do some good. But overall this guitar sounds excellent for the kind of music I play.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I grabbed the guitar out of the case for the first time and did not have to do anything. I just stated playing. Factory set-up was spot on, the action on this guitar is beautiful. I hear people complain about the Floyd Rose all of the time, they say they cant keep them in tune. I couldnt survive with out one on this guitar, I murder the wiggle stick every day and mine never goes out of tune! Jackson did a superb job on this guitar from start to finish.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I dont play any live shows other than the occasional party. But I would certainly think that these guitars would hold up as well as any other high end guitar out there, these are built like tanks. The finish is definitely going to last forever as long as you take the proper care that this guitar deserves.

Customer Support : 5
Never had any reason to call them.

Overall Rating : 9
Overall this is a phenominal guitar. I definitely made a great decision when I bought this. This guitar looks crazy cool and performs just as well. If this were stolen I would definitely replace it. I dont have the money now but I will be adding several more of these RR1's to my collection. I've been playing guitar for 15 years and this was the best decision so far. Jackson makes a hell of a product and I hope they keep it up!!!!!!!

black alder body, quartersawn maple neck through, Seymour Duncans, Floyd Rose bridge, two tone knobs and a volume, locknuts, ebony fretboard.

Sound : 10
This thing sounds amazing for METAL or Hard Rock. I am playing it through a MesaT.R. or Marshall Jmp-1 with a el34 100/100 and 350 watt marshall lead cab.On high gain settings with maxed out volume it can be somewhat noisy BUT ANY GUITAR WILL BE NOISY.This is on the quiet side.Great overall tone! I play or try to play lol everything from Maiden to Enslaved to JS Bach. The SD's sound great people may bitch about them and put EMG's in but I cant stand EMG's. SD make the best pick ups IMHO. Bridge and neck sound heavy and clear.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The factory set up was okay but I had it set up by a pro w/ the FR blocked out ( not floating). No flaws on the guitar at all. Once it was set up it was so smooth.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar can take a beating seems tuff all around. just watch the long end of the V lol.

I have been playing for about 12 years. I own 2 Gibson LP's one Classic and one Delux, JP Music Man, 2 Fender fat strats (usa), ESP viper, and A Jackson usa soloist. I have to say that out of all my guitars my Jacksons play the best, the RR takes the cake. IMO Jackson USA gives you the best bang for your buck. Great craftsmanship, killer looks, the best necks, and awesome tones.

Alder body, quartersawn maple neck through, Seymour Duncans, Floyd Rose bridge, two tone knobs and a volume, locknuts, ebony fretboard. And it came with an evil demon spirit that lives inside it so no matter what you play, it sounds scary

Sound : 10
This is the best sounding guitar for metal I've ever had the pleasure to play. It's really fat sounding, but at the same time, has the razor edge type of attack. Leads on this thing are amazing. Almost sounds fake it's so precise and clear, but still totally organic. Sustain is other worldly..I mean, you can fret the 12th fret, high E, pick it once, hammer around and move anywhere around the neck and the signal just stays strong, perfect. I can hit a harmonic, like 3rd fret, grab the bar and the note will just scream for minutes..like I said, out of this world. No need for a pickup change, these are great.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Everything was absolutely perfect, flawless. This pre-fender bullshit is just that, bullshit. I owned this same guitar back in the early 90s, and this one is just as good or better. The finish is gorgeous, metal flake black, floyd, intonation, pickup height and string height were all perfect right out of the box.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is so well made, such attention to detail, and everything is so heavy duty, I can't imagine it not withstanding the hardest of touring. The long wing is somewhat cumbersome and I'm scared to death that I'm going to bump it on something like a cymbal stand or a wall or another guitar or bass, but for these looks, I'll gladly live with that fear.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Don't know. But, honestly, I can't imagine ever needing them. I'll always baby this guitar.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
Overall, this is the finest instrument I've ever had (including the one I had 15 years ago) and I've had some good guitars. It is perfectly balanced, AMAZING tone and sustain, and just flat stunning to look at. It feels like a million bucks in my hands. It makes my other two Ibanez guitars feel and sound like toys, and they're both extremely nice guitars, and one is a custom. If it were stolen, I would be extremley depressed and try my best to get another.

Guitar looks beautiful, but the body takes time to get used to. Even once you get used to it you can't just sit down and play, you need something to put your left foot on when you sit so the knee can be elevated. DO NOT get it for looks, make sure you're comfortable with the shape first.

Also the placing of the volume knob isn't very good, if you're sweeping you might hit it. And the 2 tone knob wiring isn't my thing.

Sound : 6
Sounds good, BUT had some kind of active circuit. I'm going to go to a shop and get it rewired. I changed the stock jacksons to a seymour duncan sh2n jazz in the neck and a dimarzio x2n in the bridge. On CLEAN you get a classic rock distortion with NECK pickup! Literally. Different guitar, same pickups, same amp, crystal clear cleans. Only way to get cleans on the RR1 is to roll down the volume on the guitar, but that takes too long. Only get the older models if you don't mind this.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Best neck i've ever played. Non-USA jacksons, prestige ibanez, and other such things are just not the same. After playing this i must say USA jacksons have the best necks i've ever played.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Haven't had it for that long but seems pretty solid.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 7
Great neck. Best neck i've ever played. Looks badass.

Other then that - active circuit is a pain in the ass, i'm going to get it removed. Strap straps on in a way that bends it. Can't play sitting without a food rest of some sort. Even then prepare to adjust the way you play, it takes time. Only 22 frets.

If i could replace it i would get a usa soloist or the neck-thru ibanez similar to herman li's model.

You should all know the features on this guitar if you dont dont read reviews read the specs first. I'm very happy with the features I have no complaints there

Sound : 10
This guitar is the best sounding guitar for what I love to play, which is metal! It sounds awesome, but you should know, about 95 percent of the guitars sound comes from the pickups, so that's what you need to change if you don?t like the sound my bridge pickup is not the stock Jazz JB-4, it's a Seymour Duncan Sh-2 Invader so you can always critique the sound I love the sound my Rhoads gives me!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
This is where (in my opinion) the RR1 Shines! it has the LOWEST ACTION I've EVER played, now maybe some custom shop can charge u 3000
$ for a guitar with better sound I don?t know, but I'm more than happy with this setup! The guitar's finish is shiny and unbelievably beautiful if you take excellent care of it like I do. Mine is a Black with the Gold pinstripe, and I wouldn?t have it any other way, but I will be buying more in the future and have various paints like Lightning Sky, the RR-5 paint job, Metallic Black, etc... so yeah it's so hard to pick one because they are all amazing. Mine also has a custom head that doesn?t have Jackson in Pearl but painted on white with made in USA like most of 'em but yeah I don?t have a scratch or ding anywhere and there's also NO BUZZ at all which is amazing because of how low the action is!

Reliability/Durability : 9
This is probably the low point of this guitar. The guitar is VERY reliable, however it does have a monster case which can be a pain, and is somewhat difficult to play with on a very small stage because of its shape. With that same problem comes the BIGGEST problem with this guitar, it's common to see these guitars with scratched, dinged, chipped, and lacerated top wings. The wing is very long so u MUST be careful with this guitar, it's not made for playing in a tight room how ever it OWNS on a stage!!!!!

Customer Support : 9
I never have really have to deal with Jackson for the most part but the few times I have they've been more than helpful!

Overall Rating : 10
I love this guitar I baby it!!!! It's my favorite thing! It?s even more important than my gf! lol jk jk jk jk...but anyways for the most part I'm strictly a Jackson player, I want to get an SL2H sometime as well and will always be loyal to Jackson! My current guitars are : Jackson RR1T, Jackson DXMGT, Jackson EX Stealth Professional series, Gibson Custom Les Paul hollow body with gold H/W, and an Ovation acoustic, and let's not forget THE CAT! my first guitar ever which I've kept to this day even though it sucks ass!... I run it through : Ibanez DE-7, Digitech Whammy, Ibanez FL-7, Dunlop Crybaby 535Q, into a Crate Shockwave full stack...and for the record my favorite band is Bullet for My Valentine!!!!! but anyways if you want a GREAT Jackson beautiful guitar that screams METAL! get the RR1 or RR1T, I like the T cuz it's cleaner and I don?t really use a Whammy bar but anyways take my advice and get it!

I never thought i would be writting one of these fucking reviews but the guitar is too good you need to know. The jackson rr1 is a monster of a guitar. The stock pickups are weak, very weak actually. but fit a pair of emgs and you are ready to go. This guitar oozes brilliance. It is one of the easiest guitars to play, i have reached new levels of my playing i never knew i had. IF YOU CAN AFFORD ONE BLUDY WELL GET ONE THEY ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it can become real noisy when the amp is set to extremes. I also use a kh2 relic and kh2 ouija guitar. those hold the gain fine but the jackson has too weak of a pickup.

Don't know the year, but some mockers would say, "By the looks, I'd say the '80's, hur, hur!", a**holes. 22 jumbo frets. Currently, the pickups are a Seymour Duncan TB6 Trembucker Distortion in the bridge and a stock Jazz in the neck. Ebony fretboard,Alder 1/4-sawn neck for greater stablity, perfect pitched neck, the USA neck is just SICK!!!!!!!! Floyd Rose coolness, though currently I only have three block springs, so I can only use gauge 9-42 strings, bummer. It's got some handy wrenches you can post on the back of your headstock with I think, but I know it's real pearl, the Jackson logo facin' a crowd. Your grandma would be proud.

Sound : 9
It suits my music style I guess in that it's a rock guitar. My music style needs a biting pickup in the bridge and a floating tremolo, heavy duty I might add, at least. I play it through my flat sounding, but great sounding Crate MX65R. T' add some distinctive high end sparkle, I just use my Maxon 6-band eq.. The only crummy sound from the guitar is the grounding buzz and when the tremolo arm is on, it causes an annoying vibration sometimes. The guitar acoustically, is rather slight due to it's body mass, I mean, compared to deep mahoghany. The guitar has great sustain nonetheless. Notes are greatly defined on bright sounding ebony. Using a Seymour Duncan Distorion trembucker in it's bridge and playing straight is not a great choice, though I loved this pickup when it was in my Jackson DKMG. The RR-1 benefits probably from a more bass producing pickup. I eq'd my amp with my Maxon graphic eq. and the sound is fuller. I like the USA made construction and hardware. I can't say enough about the neck, though! I dislike the none-to-deep acoustic sound, but I won't complain since I bought it for a mere $649! It needed a bit of work though, mainly the wiring literally needed to be stripped out 'cause, I'll be candid here: one of those Emg 81 lovin' mofo's wanted to do some jacked up work and I guess he got fed up and sold the thing and I bet his tone still sucks! Harshest thing to say about a guitarist? I think so.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
See above, plus the wing corners are chipped hard.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I think now that I own a 'real' guitar, if you will, you should only be playing a solid guitar live, not a shoddy guitar. The one credit I can give to the previous owner is the staplocks he installed are basic, but are 'boomerang' shaped, hooking the strap nicely. I'd gig it without a backup occasionally.

I found a GEM! The very first (according to the serial #) USA RR1 manufactured in 1988. The color on the front is white on the lower wing half and black on the upper wing half. Then when you flip it, it is opposite on the color of the wings with the black and white running up the neck to the back of the headstock. I was told that it was a one of a kind color, but email me at scratchy003@aol.com if you have the same color scheme. Otherwise, it has a floyd, 2 h/3 way setup. I changed out the original jackson pickups to the standard RR1 Seymour config the day I got it when I was setting it up.

It is the most incredible sounding metal axe I have ever heard. I use a Marshall DSL 50 head with a Marshall 4x12 cabinet. It is perfect in every way and I have a 68 LP Custom and a DK1 with EMG's too. I still love the RR1 the most.

Being a 23 year old axe that has sat in the case with the original strings, it needed setup pretty badly. But, in 5 hours, I cleaned it, set it up, changed the pickups and oiled the little rusty screws and trem. The thing is immaculate with the fasted setup I have ever had on an axe. The neck and frets are perfect. I honestly don't think the thing was ever played. The guy who had it second bought it as an investment in 92ish.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Everyone needs a backup, but I am fully confident that this axe will do it all. When I am famous, this axe will be reproduced as my RR1 signature model.

Never dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 10
Hands down the best (and not close to the most expensive) axe I have ever owned. I WILL make this axe famous. It feels to me like I would guess SRV's #1 felt to him, etc... It plays like butter and I want to get another one as a backup, although I don't think that I'll find another so unique. If it were stolen, I cry like a baby and it would haunt me for the rest of my life. But I would get another RR1. On a side note, I had a Black 96 American Fender Strat and a Red 96 Gibson SG Standard stolen back in 98 and it still bothers me today and they were no where close to as one of a kind and meaningful to me as this axe.

2003 RR-1 USA series, 22 frets, V-T-T controls and 3 way selector, stock Semour Duncan pickups (bridge JB TB4 Humbucker/neck jazz SH2N Humbucker), alder body, quarter-sawn maple neck, metallic black finish, black hardware, Original Floyd Rose, 25.5" scale compound-radius neck, jumbo frets, shark fin inlays, comes with case, pretty much the standard RR-1 features.

Sound : 10
The Rhodes Jacksons are definatly metal style guitars, but can fit well with other rock or hard rock styles. Personialy I use it for metal, I suppose you could use it for other styles if you are progressive enough. I play it through a Marshall JCM 900 50W Hi Gain Master Volume MkIII and a 4x12 Marshall cab with 75 watt Celestions, with distortion, eq, delay, and a few othere lesser used effects. Not much noise but like most guitars you will get some hum when you aren't toutching the strings or the pots. Even when I have the amp cranked and the effects on the noise is pretty minimal. This guitar has a much beefier sound then I expected, although it uses the same bridge pickup as the SL1 Soloist (I own one) and both are constructed from alder wood its way deeper sounding, maybe the body has something to do with it. Lots of sustain, easy pinch harmonics, the higher strings seem to be slightly brighter then the lower ones. There are many factors to getting a good sound, it may sound like crap through a crate, but any Jackson USA series will give you what you need for the guitar end. At any rate you should play it safe and try one out first since sound is such an individual taste.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I got this slightly used. The action was a tad high for my taste, but I like it to practicaly touch the frets so I can't complain to much. I re-setup every guitar after I buy it anyway, Probably ok for most though. Needed to lower the pickups a bit when I lowered the action. Every thing else was flawless. Not even a nick on the upper wing, I got lucky with that! My soloist has very minimal wear after several years of hard playing. The Floyd Rose rusts out abit over time, if you keep it clean and add a bit of household oil to the nuts it will last longer. Most of the hardware needs periodic tightining, no biggie.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I gig with it and plenty of pro touring musicians use these live so I doubt you will have any problems. It seems pretty tough but I wouldn't want to drop it. The wings and headstock are notorious for being easy to chip, just try to be careful, and if you do chip it just chalk it up to giving the guitar character. The stock strap holders are wide, good for a soloist but I wouldn't risk not using strap locks on the v. Very dependable but I never play with out a backup, regardles of the Floyd.

I have been playing for over 20 years, I also own a Jackson Soloist, a newer Gibson SG, and a 68 Gibson SG. Its a feels a bit different to play standing then a strat body guitar but it has great balance. When sitting it must be played like a classical guitar. It looks as good as it plays, I would love to have a custom shop 24 fret version like Alexi Laiho's from Children of Bodom, but that adds about 2 or 3 grand extra to the price tag. Jackson USA series in my opinion are about the best solid body guitars you can buy. They are a bit pricy but nothing compairs. You can find scratch and dent versions for about $800. I may change the setup so that each pickup has its own volume. Aside from that I am very happy with this guitar. What are you waiting for? Go get one!

USA built, Bought it second hand for $1200 on ebay amazing price, 22 jumbo size frets, volume, tone and 3 way switch. There are 81 and 85 EMG which sound incredible in any amp. Alder wood fret board. The paint is a clear white and black bevels. It has its origional Floyd Rose and locking nuts. All the hardware is black and the tuners are Schaller. The shark fin shape is a realy good style but is awkard to sit down and play.

Sound : 10
I love metal and rock and this guitar is the best guitar for it. Its fast neck and floyd rose tremelo is perfect for fast solo's. I have a Fender Roc-pro 700 that produses a great sound but i am saving up for a Marshall avt150h and cab which will give the best sound ever. There is alot of veriety with the tremelo and emg's and can produce a great clean sound. I love the guitars sound and i canj't wait until I get my Marshall.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action on this guitar was professionaly and the Floyd Rose's flat bridge gives it a realy nice feal which is great for dampening. There are no flaws to the look or sound of this guitar and it is my best guitar ever.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is to valuble to me to use it on stage but it would perform just as well as it does at home. The finish has not 1 speck that has worn away and looks stuning. The guitar is solid and would last on stage with no problems but the fins would be trouble if you performed on a small stage.

Customer Support : 5
This guitar has never gone wrong and i don't think it ever will.

This is an amazing guitar but the stange thing is that i have never seen 1 like it or with as good history. The guitar is a Jackson RR1 PROFESSIONAL and i have not been able to find one that is a RR1 PROFESSIONAL. Just the standard ones. It also has alot of history, it was previously owned buy the guitarist of kid rock and has been used in a gig and is still in brand new condition but with emg's fitted. When i won the guitar on ebay i couldn't believe the price. If some one out there has another Jackson rr1 professional please contact me.

Features : 9
USA MAde, 22 frets, Neck-Trhu-Body, 3-way toggle, Sh2 & TB4 Duncans, original Floyd, Deluxe Case. Bought that one back in 1998.

Sound : 10
Sound is amzing. No matter which amp you play it through, it's just amazing and much better than every guitar I've ever played.

The TB4s do a full, rich und ultrafat distorted Sound, yet always clear and easy and good to accentuate. The clean sound is great too, so you will have no probs playing acoustic stuff on it.

This guitar has tons of bass on it. When palm-muting a lot, you'll find nothing better.

TB4 actually might be THE metal Humbucker. I've tried several others on this guitar, including Duncan Distortion, Custom, Invader und EMGs81, but returned to the duncans, as they are not only high-outputting but organic-sounding and, as mentioned, the fattest of them all.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Factory-setup was excellent, no further adjustment needes.
Finish well made too, but be careful with the "wings" , as this guitar is very long and you might scratch off the finish when posing around.

Neck is ultrafast and perfect for soloing, it seems as if the guitar would play all fast licks by herself. Rhytm work and palm muting take a little time, until you get your right hand gets suited to the special shape of the guitar. Sweatbands sould be used live.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I've used this one now for 3 CDs and about 40 gigs, and still it is in great shape. I had to replace the tremolo screws, because they corroded through excessive sweating :( This might be the only flaw, but you'll have that on every guitar (also if the screws are labelled "non-corroding" - they are never and will always rust!)
Strap buttons are big and solid, but i've replaced them with Schaller SecLocks as everybody would do.

Live, i used this without backup guitar, and i never was in need of one. If you play sober, the strings (if not too old) won't brake ;)

Tremolo is OK. but It won't stay tuned if you use the trem a lot. If you don't use, you can put the guitar aside for a month, pick it up and it still will be tuned.

Fretboard (ebony) still in perfect shape, undestroyable.

7 years old now - still a great guitar.

Customer Support : 5
Never tried, never needed.

Overall Rating : 9
Overall, it was the perfect decision to buy this one - well, i should have taken one with locking bridge as i don't need tremolos and detuning is heck of a work.

This is not just a great Metal axe, blues and jazz are great to play too, also acoustic stuff. Of course, you won't enter other than a Metal stage with a guitar shaped like this.

If it's gets stolen, i'll put a great reward online or smash the thief's face. This is one fine peace of guitar building.

Same as the rest really floyd etc.. thru neck.. but mine has emg pickips rather than duncans.
22 frets
red with black bevels
The neck is not as thin as i thought it would be.

Sound : 8
The guitar sound i have with my rr1 and emg's is very very tight and clear, but a little airy a lot or the rr1's have an airy tone to them but i like that as it cleans up the distortion.
I play very fast very heavy metal like children of bodom, slayer,corpse,etc... thrash black death prog metal and country lol
It suits my style great its fast and the neck is the best neck ive played on better than soloist, ibanez jems, prs, gibson and miles better than the gbson flying vee.
You can hear it in action at WWW.RE-BIRTH.CO.UK it was used to record our 2 albums.
It is a little noisy at times but i am running it through a mesa boogie dual rectifier head and cab on about volume 6-7 at practice.
The sound is quite bright and airy but like i said tight and precise.
It is not the most varied sounding guitar the clean sound is very bland but as i hardly use that it does not bother me.
nothing i really dislike about the sound other than poss a little bit too bright and a little too dull clean.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Well what can i say they are built amazing!!!
Seriously awesome work jackson amigos
The set up was bog standard ... good for jackson... unlike gibson set ups YUKK!!!!
The only guitars I have played to rival it is custom shop usa bc riches and maybee some usa deans ie.. time capsule series.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar is fine live and we play very fast and very heavy.
The hardware is generaly good but you get the floyd rose alan keys rusting a bit after a few months of live work.
The finish is flawless if only it was black with gold bevels!!!
I use it at gigs without backups all the time it never breaks strings if it is set up right and always has people saying ... wow man nice axe.

2004 model US made. All features mentioned earlier.

Sound : 10
It's lot brighter than I expected, lot brighter than my SL2H. I got RR3 with same pickups and orig. Floyd. It sounds darker than RR1. This RR1 sounds so bright on neck so some would think it's thick sounding Strat.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The factory set-up is low, so low that srings were buzzing little bit. Truss rod was too tight and the hex key included didn't fit. The neck is FAT and wide. It's lot bigger than on my Soloist. According to Jakcson's web page, the neck dimensions SLs and RR1s should be same. Big minus, over 5 per cent difference. Well time will tell wil my hand accustom to it

Finish is really great, no flaws.

7 , -3 points for the neck

Reliability/Durability : 10
I think this guitar is built to last forever, but who knows how does it. Well after ten years I could say how much the harware will last. I got SL1 1990 model and its harware is still excellent.

Floyds have tendency to break strings sometimes when you don't expected it, so wouldn't use it without backup.

Warranty on Jacksons by Fender. SUCKS

Overall Rating : 7
I've been playing on and off over 20 years. I got mostly Jacksons and this was obvious buy

If it were stolen, I wouldn't buy it again. I would finally buy something else, ESP, B.C.Rich perhaps.

This V-shape is really confort to play sitting or standing and the body is very balanced so I don't need to hold neck for going down. Only thing I hate about this guitar is the fat neck. I admit it is fast to play, but ...

Before I bought my SL2H, I was going to buy a RR1, but it was gone.

I think two vols and one tone would be better setup for the controls.

This my second Jackson I bought after the Jackson Guitars were sold to Fender. My sincere opinion is that the quality of Jacksons is going down as the guy at the local music shop said ober two years ago. My RR3 got twisted neck and it was sent to Fender, who returned it and said there is nothing wrong with the neck. Ok it's made in Japan, but I wouldn't expect any quality problems with the US made RR1.

I play metal.....plain and simple. Lots of string skipping, scales, etc. Thrash, speed, pretty much anything that is a challenge. I'm playing currently through a MESA Triple Rec, and a rack configuration that consists of a Rocktron Intellifex, DBX Noise gate, KORG tuner and of course a Furman power conditioner. I also have a Boss EQ pedal in the loop to further customize my sound. This thing kills through my rig, the highs dont punch out as much with the passive pickups, but theres plenty of "chug" when i need it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
As soon as i opened this bitch up I fell in love, once again Jackson lives up to its name. The finish looks like it could last a lifetime of touring, hardware is the same. All in all, its built like a tank, you just gotta watch the wings, takes time to get used to, but you'll know how far it sticks out. Guitar also came with a perfect set-up. We play in a drop C tuning, and thats exactly how it came, action was also flawless.

Reliability/Durability : 10
As mentioned above, this thing is built like a tank. Finish is nothing short of amazing. I have absolute faith in this guitar that it can stand up to the test of the road. Has large strap buttons, so im not worried that the strap will slip. I can depend on this thing to stand true, but....it also has a Floyd, which is no good if you break a string during a show (God forbid). For this reason, and this reason only, will I take a backup. This is a good idea for any guitar with a Floyd setup.

Customer Support : 9
Have not dealt with Jackson yet, I also own a 2002 SLAT-QH, which is the last Jackson production year before the takeover by Fender, and i've had no problems with that axe except for the gold plating on the bridge, which is starting to wear (of course). I have however, questioned the custom shop for a quote on a custom RR-1, and the reply was very quick, considering the volume of e-mails they must get.

Overall Rating : 10
OK, everyone else has raved about this guitar, so there is no need for me to waste half a page to write up about this stunning piece of gear. Even though it is a fender made Jackson, and despite the negative feelings people have towards the buyout (myself included), this guitar really does deserve the Jackson name on it. I've played RR's from the pre-fender era, and this feels no different. I also see no flaws/issues with the guitar, and to play this thing is a dream, hell you can let your fingers do all the work and the notes punch right out. If you are in the market for this guitar, and have taken the time to read up about this, i'm sure you'll find many others with a similar opinion to mine, which is no coincidence. These things are made to shred, plain and simple, and thats all there is to it.

1998 USA Rhoads with LTG-finish (lightning sky), '98-made should be poplar.
Basically every feature like the ones described below.
The jack-input is on the inner side of the upperwing, wich makes it comfortable playing (wich was not the case with its cheap sister, the PS3)
I've replaced the SD TB4 with the Seymour Duncan Custom (SH5), giving it a better overdrive sound (more mids, more gain), better for soloing. The Jazz-neck makes a great combination.

Sound : 10
I play metal with it and I try to do some shredding.
Of course, the looks make it a 'metal'-guitar but soundwise it's capable to everything, except for some twangy C&W...
The warm sound makes it good for jazzy stuff too, but might be a little ridiculous sight (hmm, maybe the real jazzers are excentric enough not to mind the shape, so..?)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
great, no complaints about the set-up.
The finish is awesome. I've always wanted a lightning sky Rhoads, and on a holliday to Andorra, I came across the most beautiful looking lightning-finish I had ever seen! Better than the ones they use in their catalogues, can you believe that?
The neck is smooth, rather fast but since it's neck-through, not so thin as the speedneck of my Dinky. I'd prefer it a little thinner but hey, it's probably for a reason it's this size. But like I said, very smooth and not worth nagging about it! Shame on me!!

Reliability/Durability : 10

2004 Jackson RR1 with EMG 81 and 85. Flamed body. Great look. Floyd Rose double locking tremeolo.

Sound : 8
The RR1 is intended for hard rock and metal, and, especially, for soloing. It does a superb job for solos, riffs and palm-muted power chord. Don't even try to finger pick this guitar due to the shape of the body; it does not ring like a Les Paul or Fender. I currently own 7 electric guitars ( and have owned at least 25 different kinds), and I would say that when it comes to Hard Rock and Metal, this guitar is "IT". The RR1 feels so comfortable and gives lightning access on the fingerboard. The EMG 81 and 85 are fine, I tend to like the 85 neck pickup better than the 81. I also own the Ibanez JEM and Satriani Model. I personally think that if you play instrumental rock, the Ibanez JS1000 is the best guitar ever made for it.

Mine is a RR1 USA(not shure about the year) loded with: EMG-60 in neck position(Hetfield's choice) and EMG-81 (Hammet's one)in bridge. Bridge is Schaller Germany double locking trem(best choise for me). It's unbeliable I found the exactly specs I most desire in a guitar from a used guitar! And here in ARGENTINA! Think shoud be the hand of God!(Metal God ; ).
I'd like to remark three facts of the shape of this unique guitar:
1) You'll find yourself playing at 20th fret without noticeing that(first impresion on this guitar is the incredible acces to highest frets).
2) Unless you manage to do anything else, this guitar is to be played stand.
3) The larger horn has the tendence to hit anything on its way!
Conclusion: Fact number one Beats two and three!! Superb playability at highest frets is a killer and distinctive feature on this guitar!!
If you ask me what features should include your IDEAL of a perfect guitar I'll Say: Take a look a the RR1:
* Neck thru body construction.
* Woods? alder, maple & ebony(aah, that smell when u open the hard shell case!).
* 22 or 24 Frets?? How ofte u play there? Ask Malmsteen (his strat has 21!!).
* Floyd Rose! (I prefer Schaller). Consider that at the moment Mr Rhoads died, this trems didn't exist.
* Body Shape? Believe me, incredible confortable axe! I was reluctant in the beginig, before I hanged one on me. Aaah, it looks killer also!
* Neck? "LSC": Light Speed Confort.
* Pickups? This baby deserbes active! EMGs RULE!(personal taste)

This is a BRAND NEW RR1. Made in the U.S., 22 frets, floyd rose, extremely smooth ebony fretboard, and decent pickups.

Sound : 8
The pickups are a little bit to fuzzy for me. I need something with a cleaner, more crisp tone. I use it with a Line 6, but thats probably half the problem right there. It makes every guitar sound the same. On the higher frets, this guitar sounds good, but for rythm, it needs something else.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Factory set up was perfect. absolutely no problems with buzzing or anything like that. No visible flaws.

I have been playing for 5 years, and more alot more guitars than I should. I havemy 3 favorites, but they are all unique, and it's impossible to choose a favorite. My RR1 has the whammy bar, my Gibson is just kick-ass, and my YJM strat, look at my review. I liked this guitar, because unlike other explorer type shapes, it wasn't top heavy, and balances itself. If it were lost I would probably get another one, the only negative is the wait for one of these. I wish it had better pickups. I'm thinking about either emg's or seymour duncan shredmasters.

Jackson USA made RR1, floyd rose equipped, beutiful sunburst finish, don't know the year.
came with a huge case! and the tool nesessary to make adjustments and change strings.
22 frets (good enough for me)
i wish it had two volume controls instead of two tone controls cause i like to use that stuttering ffect alot.
also think it would look better with gold hardware instead of chrome
great action

Sound : 10
love the sound it's crisp and clear with an airy quality to it. it also very bright sounding, straight to a tube amp it sounds beutiful, great clean tone, and the distorted tone is great.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
as i said before i wish it had gold hardware, but the chrome is pretty good. great action. the tuners could use some improvement. i put the bridge (lead) pickup a bit higher

Reliability/Durability : 10
seems pretty good, i'll just have to wait and see.

Customer Support : No Opinion

if stolen i'd hunt down the son of a bitch who sold it and take it from there

Made in USA in 1998, 22 frets, 2 Hum (Seymour Duncan Jazz in neck and Seymour Duncan JB trembucker at the bridge). 1 volume and 2 tone controls with a 3 way pickup selector switch. Maple neckthrough with alder wings and ebony fretboard with mother of pearl sharkfin inlays. Original Floyd Rose trem, jumbo frets and Jackson tuners. Metallic black (MBK) finish.

Sound : 9
I play death metal and it is great for that. Only thing I would do is think about replacing the Duncan JB with a hotter pickup in the bridge, a Duncan Invader or EMG 81 for a heavier sound. Love the jumbo frets!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Bought it used and I set it up so it was set up fine for me.

Reliability/Durability : 10
My main guitar of my 3 USA Jacksons, no problems with using this live. You have to have a backup with any Floyd Rose loaded guitar.

Customer Support : 10
Some have complained about customer support from Jackson, but I've had nothing but great dealings with Jackson support.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 16 years and own 2 more USA Jacksons (fusion custom and sl1) and some import guitars and this is my favorite one.
If it were stolen I'd hunt the person down, exact my revenge and then buy another one. Gotta love the jumbo frets!! USA made Jacksons are the best made guitars in the world nothing else compares to them.

JAckson RR-1 made in 2001. 22 frets. H/H pickups. Seymour Duncan passive SH-2 and TB-4. Controls are 1 master volume, 2 tones, 3-way gibson pickups selection. Body is alder and fingerboard is ebony. Finish is Black w/gold pinstripes. (looks aweome!) Bodystyle off-set V. Bridge is Original Foyd Rose. Fast neck w/jumbo frets. Came with huge case and some tools and wammy bar.

Sound : 9
Mostly I play Ozzy and Sinergy and Children of Bodom. And it sounds great in heavy metal. I'm using 1968 Fender Super Reverb amp. Effects are Rat distortion pedal, Danelectro flanger, and Korg A5. The pickups sounds great. Maybe I'm gonna change those for EMG's to get little bit heavier sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Guitar was set-upped good. Action was perfect. No complaining about paint work.

Reliability/Durability : 9
The hardware of this guitar seems to be strong. But I wouldn't use it in gig without backup since it has Floyd Rose.

This sweet axe was ordered in January 2001, and it has just arrived recently (April 2002). Brand New 22 jumbo fret Randy Rhodes RR1 with Hot Rod Flame graphic, neck through body construction, ebony fretboard with mother of pearl sharkfin inlays, Seymour Duncan SH-2 (neck) and TB-4 (Bridge) pickups, and original Floyd Rose Bridge system. The guitar came with a massive beautiful case (looks like a keyboard case).

Sound : 10
I plugged it into my Marshall JCM2000 DSL100, and it totally changed my sound to pure METAL. This guitar totally screams at high volumes. Very smooth yet heavy distortion. I play original classic Heavy Metal and plug straight into the amp. The only effects that I use are delay and equalizer in the effecs loop of the amp. The guitar isn't noisy at all. There is absolutely nothing I dislike about this guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar was set up perfectly at the factory. The finish is flawless and the action is just perfect. I couldn't ask for anything more. This guitar came from Jackson's Custom Shop, so I really didn't expect to see any flaws.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar looks very solid, and if dropped, I don't think much would happen to it, except maybe the upper wing might chip if dropped in that position. Hardware looks like it will last and stand up to the test of time. I never gig without a backup, for the sole reason of having a Floyd Rose. Anything can happen with those bridges.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never Dealt with them.

Been playing 10 years and own a few amps, Marshall DSL 100 and a crate blue voodoo on it's way. If it were stolen I'd buy another one with the insurance money right away. I chose this guitar because of it's playability. It's very comfortable and light as compared to my BC Rich Warlock. Totally happy with this purchase.

2000 model RR1 in Metallic Black. 22 frets on an ebony board. Quartersawn maple neck through body design. Two Duncan Humbuckers, 3 way switch. The bound neck with pearl inlays is beatiful, as is the bound headstock. Came with an original Floyd Rose bridge and a Jackson hard case.

Sound : 10
I run my RR1 through a Mesa/Boogie and together they scream. This is the most perfect hard rock/metal guitar I've ever played. It has the look and sound required for metal. The neck is the most playable I've ever used...the feel is consistent from top to bottom. Great access to all frets and the feel of the frets is top notch. I also own a Jackson SL2H and the fret dressing is of the same high caliber. The Duncan pickups are very well voiced for this guitar. The bridge humbucker is very well rounded in sound, it can go from scream to mean. The neck pickup is very smooth, not a lot of gain but it delivers a fantastic clean sound. The sustian is long and clean at any volume or gain setting. Lots of variety available in the sounds, but the look of the guitar kind of limits it to rock/metal. You could play some nice smokey jazz on that neck pickup with the tone rolled back, but you'd look a retard.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Without question the lowest action I have ever played. No buzz anywhere on the neck, whether played amplified or acoustic. The pickup height was ideal, and the Floyd was very well adjusted. All pots and switches work cleanly and quietly. The inlays were well seated, no gobs of glue anywhere. Very well done.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Be careful where you play as the long wing is a huge mother and it will bump into everything in its path. The finish is very durable and thick, it will take a beating. Huge strap buttons are a nice addition. I rotate this guitar and my SL2H, so both are my main squeezes, and neither is a back-up.

Customer Support : 10
I bugged the hell out of Jackson waiting for delivery and every time we spoke they were polite and courteous. I have not used the warranty. Excellent customer support. The Jackson/Charvel forum is a great place for real world advice from Jackson players.

Overall Rating : 10
Twenty years of playing and buying guitars has brought me to this point in my life. I now only play/buy USA Jackson's. I recently sold my Wolfgang to bring an SL2H in to my home and my EBMM Van Halen model goes on ebay in March '02. A KV2 and Y2KV are next. The quality can not be beaten for the price. Made in the USA neck through body guitars with Duncan pickups and ebony boards for the price of a bolt on neck Japanese strat. Believe the hype, USA Jackson's rule.

USA Select, built in May of 1999, originally all black, Pile-o-Skulls graphic applied by Jackon post-sale in July of the same year. Alder body provides considerable sustain despite the "v" body style. Used to have one volume/two tone... rewired to an RR3 configuration with two volume/one tone a la Randy Rhoads "flip-switch". Seymour Duncan passive pickups (can't remember the designations). Maple neck, I believe, ebony fingerboard with pearl sharkfin inlays and headstock namesake. Original Floyd Rose Tremolo system, locking nut, 22 1/2" scale length. Came with a case... purchased used.

Sound : 8
I play mostly my own stuff, based on Ozzy (obviously), old Metallica... I'm basically a 32 year old skid, and this is the guitar. Been a Fender fan for over 15 years when I discovered a Dinky, then moved on to an RR3, then an RR1. Used with a pretty cheesy Peavey Supreme head through a 4x12 Peavey slant cab. My amp is noisy, the guitar is not. It's very mellow... I've played jazzy and bluesy lines through it, and it sings beautifully. Distorted, it rings long with a thick sound, but not muddy. Pretty easy to coax just about any sound out of it, except for some obscure natural harmonics (14th fret, for example), but this may be the amp's fault.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
When I brought this guitar home, there was a bow in the neck, the action was laying on the neck (literally), intonation was screwed... it was just a mess. Pickups were drawn deep into the body... all this I blame on the previous owner and the reseller for ignoring such an abomination. Once I did a set up, realigned the neck and all, it showed its true colors. I change the strings, and I tune it once. That's all. This is a FAST guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar has never given me any trouble live, but I'd never play without a backup, because string changes take a lifetime. Any changes I make to this guitar will be based on changing preference, not on necessity. The finish is thick and hard, with a good gloss, attracts fingerprints like a brass doorknob, though. Strap pins were a bit shaky, but tightened nicely. This and a 2000 Cherry Sunburst Les Paul are my two main guitars, because both are fun, obey my commands, and are very reliable.

Customer Support : 8
I've dealt with this reseller many times in the past, and they're quite helpful. They actually did the rewire job, and it came out very nice. Dealt with Jackson only when I tried to get a history on it, and they were very helpful. This guitar is not under warranty.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing since August, 1985. Have BOSS GT3 processor through 100 watt Peavey Supreme head, 300 watt 4x12 cab. Also use Dean "Z" Supreme (explorer, gold hardware, neck thru), Gibson Les Paul Standard (cherry sunburst), Dean performer 12 string acoustic, Washburn bass, etc. Knowing me, if I lost this guitar, I'd turn white, cry for a little bit, get really drunk, then buy something else. This baby's irreplaceable. I love the look, the speed, the quality, the sound. I hate that it doesn't come with an optional grenade launcher. This guitar had the best neck I'd ever seen, with very easy access to the higher frets... no cutaway required.

This may sound like a very glowing report, but I'm very particular about what I play, and this thing passed all my little quirky tests. I'm convinced I can drag this baby behind my car from Halifax to Vancouver and it would stay in tune, with not a mark on the finish except for the FINGERPRINTS!!

Jackson Randy Rhoads RR1. Made in 1987 in the USA shop. The RR1 has 22 Frets on a bound ebony fingerboard that has sharkfin inlays. The body of the guitar is alder, and the neck is maple, but is painted gloss black just like the body and the headstock of the guitar. There is 1 Master Volume Knob, and 2 Tone Knobs. The Pickups are Seymour Duncans, specifically an SH2 in the neck position and a TB4 in the bridge position. The bridge is an Original Floyd Rose Tremelo. The tuners are just standard black Schaller tuners.

Sound : 10
I play mostly heavy metal and some acoustic stuff. This guitar suits me very well for metal. The body shape is very comfortable and the guitar is very light. I use a 1970 Yamaha 100-watt, which I modified to 200 watts. I also use a Boss MT-2 Metal Zone, Ernie Ball Volume Pedal, Morley Steve Vai Bad Horsie 2 Wah, Dunlop Cry Baby Wah, and an Ibanez DL5 Digital Delay. The guitar is very quiet. No feedback at all. The sound is really thick and crunchy on distortion. It sounds great. The clean sound is amazing too. I like everything about this guitar...plus I've been looking for this specific model for 3 years and I finally found one.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action on the guitar is set up perfect. Its right where I like it, really low without buzzing. The pickups were also perfect. The bridge is routed properly. The guitar is flawless.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar would definitely withstand live playing without a doubt. The hardware and the finish will definitely last. The strap buttons are very solid but I use Strap Locks on all my guitars. I can definitely depend on the guitar for recording, shows, or just straight out jamming. I would never play a gig without a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't had to deal with Jackson yet, because the guitar is perfect.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 3 and a half years. If it were stolen or lost I would definitely buy another, but I could probably never find one in this good condition for the price I paid.

Manufactured 3/1998 at the Ontario, CA shop. 22 frets, solid body neck-through metallic black. Seymour Duncan Jazz-Neck and JB-Bridge, 1 volume, 2 tone. Orignal Floyd Rose full floating and routed. Jackson Gotoh style tuners. Beautiful ebony bound neck with genuine mother of pearl shark fin inlays and genuine abalonie shell "Jackson" inlay on the headstock.

Sound : 10
Pure Metal. Guitar to Morley wah to Mesa Boogie Subway Rocket, straight forward and simple. The tone and sound are solid as could be expected. The RR1 was perfect upon purchase with no adjustments made by the store or otherwise. The action was "there", not to low and not to high. Practically no string buzz anywhere and never any more than should have been. Electronics quiet. Great sustain, see below. Dislike the possibility of getting it scratched!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Guess I already covered some of these things. What the hell, have been playing for about 14 years and it was truly an honor to have a USA Jackson...the quality of the newer USA made guitars are second to none. The parts, action, electronics were perfect. I still haven't scene any flaws, poor fit, loose controls etc. The funny thing is that the RR1 looks like an ugly "Metal" guitar to most people but feels and plays like a fine instument none the less

Reliability/Durability : 10
No problems so far at all. It feels solid as any other and more so than most guitars. I have played my share and some just don't feel like they'll be there the next day. The RR1 again feels solid. Who would play a gig without a backup anyway. Well not because this one would fail you. It wouldn't unless you're playing tired strings.

Customer Support : 9
Haven't had to deal with them at this point. My best friend just e-mailed Jackson letting them know that there was a discrepency in their advertising. The website was showing the Y2KV guitar as having a maple body when in fact it has a mahogany body. Jackson said thanx and changed the website to say mahogany.

Overall Rating : 10
14-15 years, also own a 1995 Jackson Dinky Reverse loaded with Duncans and an original Floyd Rose. If it were stolen or lost I'd go hunting. This guitar plain and simple feels sweet. Forgive the word but you know it when you feel it. The action and playability are second to none. Someday I would love to have a custom made Jackson but until then this is is close as it gets.

Okay well I really was unhappy with the way the stock Jacksons sounded, I didn't expect them to know how to make great pickups! Well anyways, I bought a Dimarzio X2N and smacked it into the bridge, and oh my stars! It's light and day, this thing sings now. It sounds soo sweet now, has massive bass response and sparkling treble, absolutly perfect for the Metal I play. This guitar is now complete, it is the best sounding and playing guitar I have pickued up yet.

Once you get new pickups in it, it is the best guitar i have owned for basically anything but jazz. I do NOT listen to Ozzy or Rhoads (like everyone here likes to make sure we know, as if anyone gives a rip), I bought this guitar because the sound and shape were appealing. Exellent guitar. Would be an exellent addition to a Jackson Soloist ;)

I paid $800 for this guitar BRAND NEW! I was actually saving for an Ibanez JEm when I came across this price and knew I couldnt pass it up. I bought with the intention of selling and making a few hundred bucks but now I like this guitar so much that Im kinda in a bind wondering whetehr to sell or to keep.
This guitar has a very nice metal/hard rock sound. Even though the Floyd and the lack of wood takes a little away from the sutain, this sucker can still hold a note with the best of them. Trills, taps, harmonics, etc. is what this guitar was built to do. I am still leaning towards selling it but this guitar sounds excellent!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
This is where this guitar prevails over most any others Ive played. The neck is so comfortable I could play the crazy train solo with my hand asleep. The action is effortless and the ebony fretboard is as smooth as silk. Their are a few things I dont like though. One, you cant play this guitar sitting down unless you want to be very uncomfortable. The guitar isnt too heavy and is balanced well though so if you usually stand up and play anyways, than this isnt a problem. Two, I dont dig the recessed tremolo. Ive always rested my hand on my tremolo when I play and cant on this guitar which causes me to play a little slower and makes my arm get tired. I guess I made thissind wrse than it really is because its not that big of a problem, it just gets on my nerves sometimes. And finally, for a guitar that you must stand up to play, your strap should fit it good and feel nice. It doesnt. Straps kinda twist a little and dont fit the strap buttons well on this guitar. I'm just pointing out all the things I dont like, their are a hundred more that I do. This is a GREAT player!

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I havnet gigged with this guitar but would never gig with a guitar equipped iwth a floyd and not have a backup.

Ive been playing 6 and half years and this is the first top quality guitar I have owned. Like I said, it plays excellent and sounds great too...but I still will probably sell and make a few hundred. If it were stolen, Id be pissed that I was out a $1400 guitar but I wouldnt buy another one unless I found the same deal for the simple fact that you cnat sit down and play. If you spend most your time playing guitar standing up then this guitar is a 10 but if youre like me and like to kick back, watch a little tv, and play guitar then go for something else unless you can find the same kind of dela that I found.

This guitar is great without distortion, the neck pickup has a very sweet relaxed tone to it. But the bridge pickup is another story, it has no give to it! I have owned several fenders, ibanezes(even expensive ones are dirt!), and others. If it was stolen i would go the next day and search for a new one. The thing i like about this guitar is that it feels like it was custom built for me, the neck is perfect and everything is so slick on this thing. There is not one thing i would change about this guitar except that damn pickup! If you ever come across a USA Jackson for cheap, you should buy it, you will not be disappointed!

This is a 1998 Jackson USA Randy Rhodes RR-1. This guitar has the following features: 22 jumbo frets, mother of pearl sharkfin inlays and logo, neck-thru body construction, alder body with maply neck and ebony fingerboard, seymour duncan TB & SH humbuckers w/ 1V&2T controls via 3 way toggle switch, Original Floyd Rose double locking tremolo (black hardware). My RR-1 is finished in metallic black...came with this huge original hardshell case with tools, etc.

Sound : 9
This guitar surprisingly sounds great...most oddly shaped guitars have horrible tonal characteristics, but he RR-1 does sound nice. It has a good amount of sustain (attributed by the neck thru design) and also from the jumbo frets (those add to it), the pickups are medium to high output and are matched well (no noise whatsoever), can get high treble tone on bridge, and warm it up on the neck and also get a midway tonal range with the 2 in combination. When i play a harmonic, this guitar begs for something like that...if you drive a Ferrari or Maserati, it's imperative that you reach the performance envelope, otherwise, why buy it?...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action is extremely low (without buzzing on the frets)...this is a fast/heavy player...so I bought this guitar from a dealer who had it sitting in the showroom for 2 years without a sale and it only has a couple of very light scratches on the back from people doodling in the stores...The pickups and tremolo routings are precisely cut, no cracks, no structural problems, the metallic black finish is very nice except it could be somewhat more pronounced (very subtle metallic flake) since you can only see it in a well lit environment.
I oiled the fretboard with lemon oil, made some adjustments, gave her a good cleaning and polishing, EVERYONE i know loves this guitar...The only dissapointment i have besides the metallic finish is the mother of pearl jackson logo...i have a custom shop soloist and if you compare the two "jackson" logos, the custom shop has a much more sculpted and styled logo with a deeper 3-d effect...the RR logo is nice (dont get me wrong) but if i get a chance, i would like to send this guitar to Jackson and have the logo re-done and also possible refinish the body to have the metallic finish more pronounced!!!

Reliability/Durability : 10
I own a Jackson Custom Shop Soloist (read my review) and play gigs with both of these guitars (i always have a redundant unit after learning the hard way)...The strap buttons are wide so they really hold onto the strap but i dont throw her around (stupid to do that) i dont see any reason why this guitar should fall apart. After each time i play my guitars, i clean off the strings, fretboard, etc., remove all the sweat, finger grit, smudge marks, etc., tune-ups and set-ups every 2 months (i keep a preventative maint. schedule), make sure the fretboard is oiled to prevent cracking of any kind...if you invest a good amount of money in anything, it would be wise to maintain your investment...i dont let my toys go to shit (im not walking this earth to incurr losses)

Haven't dealt with them (yet) but will soon since i have a custom shop order going through the works, so in that case, i would like to have my input since this guitar is being built based on my stringent specifications. Otherwise, I hear good things about Jackson...right now the only problem would be the long wait on getting your guitar and that's only due to the high demand in association with the time consuming and perfection process of building fine high-quality guitars made to meet the demands of the customer...go to any major mfr. of guitars and you will wait, i.e. Brian Moore has a 1 to 1.5 year wait on custom shop guitars, PRS is the same, Fender isn't too bad but you're buying a cookie cutter made guitar from them...

Im patiently waiting knowing that my demands are being met~~~~this would have had a better rating, but, i have to see first hand for myself

Overall Rating : 10
I'm playing 13 years and I can hold my own...I play thru a Mesa/Boogie Mk-IV amp with 4X12 cabinet with Roland and TC Electronic effects units and a BBE sonic maximizer in the FX loop...I have found my tone!!! If it were stolen/lost/etc., i would definitely get another RR-1 but would go directly thru the custom shop to have it made exactly how i want it but my USA model is excellent as it is!
The look is awesome/aggressive/carnivorous (chicks love the V style)...after going thru fenders, gibsons, kramers, i found that JACKSON makes a guitar that fits my needs, therefore, i dont shop around for any other makes since i found my niche guitar....You absolutely get what you paid for it

Made in August of 1998 in USA. It has 22 frets on an ebony fingerboard. Mother of pearl sharkfin inlays that are beautiful. It has 1 volume, 2 tone, and a 3-way selector which controls the two humbuckers. The neck pickup is Seymour Duncan Jazz and the bridge is a Seymour Duncan JB, passive electronics. The body is alder wings, and the neck is quartersawn maple, neck-thru. It is finished in metallic black and has the Jackson classic Rhoads shape V, upperwing longer than lowerwing. It has a real Floyd Rose Tremolo, NOT a floyd rose licensed tremolo. It has Jackson tuners. The neck is thin, but not too thin it is uncomfortable, perfect size for playing fast or shredding, you name it, and has jumbo frets. It came with a beautiful hard shell case that is cut out exactly for the guitar. The head and neck are bound in I guess it is ivoroid or ivory.

Sound : 10
I play hard rock/metal, Ozzy with Rhoads (of course) and I bought it for hard rock/metal playing. But, the clean sounds you can get out of it are amazing too. I'm only using a Dunlop Crybaby wah into a Peavey Bandit 112. It is noisy when I'm sitting at the computer with it, but then again all guitars are. It is a little noisy on high gain situations, but I am pretty sure it is just the amp. The Jazz neck pickup gives incredible warm/clean tone. The JB bridge is a medium-high output pickup that has tons of harmonics, stays clean when you want it too, but distorts when you want it too also. Very dynamic and it has a full sound that is bright in part thanks to the ebony fingerboard. I think I'll have the JB installed in the bridge position of other guitars I get because it is that good.

The guitar can go from warm/clean sound to a full distorted metal sound. Neck position warm/clean, middle warm/semi-distorted, bridge harmonics/distorted/full sounding. This guitar sounds awesome.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action was low and perfect for speed playing. The bridge pickup was kind of low for mean, but I guess the last person who had it liked it down there, I raised it a tad. The only thing I could find wrong was a small chip on the upper wing of the guitar, but all Rhoads guitars will have this, and it was used so I didn't expect it to be perfect. But Jackson seems to set everything up perfect, no building flaws.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I know this guitar will be able to withstand playing live, which I plan on using it for, when I get the chance. The hardware will last very long, but the floyd is a pain to setup. The strap buttons are big, I don't think I'll ever need a strap lock. The finish will chip off with enough force, but I don't think it will wear off. Because it is a floyd rose, I'd definitely gig with a backup. Because this is a Rhoads shaped guitar, expect to have paint chipped off on tip of the wings and at the headstock, you won't be able to do anything about it, but it kind of adds character to the guitar also.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them and I don't know if I will. The warranty was 1 year which is no longer valid.

Overall Rating : 10
I've only been a serious player for about 10 months now, but have been playing for 3 years. I have an Epiphone LP Special II, which was my first guitar, and this is a big upgrade from that. If it were stolen, I'd steal all the money from the person who stole it from me, get the guitar back, break the guys arms and legs so he couldn't steal it again, and go buy another one. I plan on buying another one, maybe a custom shop (if I ever magically get $3,000) or another RR1 in some kind of Trans color, either trans red or trans blue.
I compared this to Gibson LP Custom's, PRS', Stratocaster, Ibanez's (yuck), and ESP LTD's, and I found these played better than them, and built just as good as the Gibson's or PRS' guitars.
Only a guitar great (Rhoads) could design a guitar like this.

I play "Power Thrash" metal. Melodic Thrash. Like Megadeth (my fav band) plus Iced Earth or Iron Maiden. I use a 70s Marshall JMP, Ibanez TS-9 (ORIGINAL!) Tubescreamer, and Crybaby Wah. I loved this guitar when I got it, except the bridge pickup was a little too... well, BASSY For my amp. For some reason, with my Marshall I get WAY too much bass, so I took out the JB and stuck in a TB-5 Trembucker (like on the Dave Mustaine signature model), and DAMN. Perfect tone. I use DR strings, .10-.56, and I tune to Eb. Killer killer killer sound with a marshall.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Impeccable. This is my 2nd Rhoads (First one got stolen), and I will always have a USA Jackson in my rig.

I bought this guitar for it's famous country twang! I didn't buy this guitar for it's clean tone, i bought it to absolutely disrupt, degrade and distort the sound beyond recognition. But I am amazed with the clean tones this can get! Great all around sound!

THis guitar took a header at the store and need to be repaired at the world famous Sadowski's custom shop. So i have no idead how it was set up at the factory. But after the custom setup, I can find NO flaws in the guitar. It has a VERY cool skulls finish.

1999, US made, 22 fret ebomy fingerboard, sharkfin inlays , two high output duncan pickups, SH-2 (neck) and TB-4 (bridge), 3-way seletor, It has 2 volume controls and one divided tone (seperate treble and bass, stacked (picked up fom a extremely beat up parker) . I had some work done to mine, I added a mid range boost, and a crtl-x, for an acustic like tone. It's Black, a poplar body w/ a maple neck. Original Floyd Rose bridge. Came w/ hardshell case (huge), 2 braided cords (10ft, 20ft),leather strap, and a one year replacement/repair warranty from the dealer, and the neccessary floyd tools.

Sound : 10
This guitars tone is aand after I customized it I have more tonal power. I play a tone of metal mainly metallica, creed, and ozzy, and it works overtime, it is the best in my collection for metal. (69 fender tele and a customized washburn BT). It also works great for rock and on punk, ska and some blues. I don't have many problems, not enough to complain. Has an a very versatile tone, screams when you want and hides in the background as well. It has an amazingly friendly clean tone, I suggest you try boss MT-2,CE-5 and DD-5.
I love the tonal array this guitar has.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Guitar setup was great didn't change a thing when it came to that, action close to perfection. I didn't change the pickup settings but i did think about putting actice EMGs in but I changed my mind once I got a equalizer. This guitar didn't have a singal flaw, until I got it (j/k). Beautiful metallic finish. Does almost everything you could ask for.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've never played a gig w/ it, but I KNOW it would more than beable to handle it, Because Once I dropped it hard, about a week after I got it and all that happened was a corner of the head brook releasing the low-E tuner. I was amazed. Every piece of hardware is first-class. I would add locking straps, just me being better safe than sorry, but strap buttons have never failed me. Not A SINGAL WORRY. Even though this guitar is so great always have a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never dealt w/ Jackson, but the company I bought mine from was more than helpful, friendly and quick when I got mine repaired.

I would overall give this guitar a standing ovation. I have never expereinced a all bad day w/ it, except the day it fell, but it surprized the hell out of me whit didn't crumble into a million pieces. If anyhting REALLY bad happened I would cry and replace A.S.A.P.

This is a brand new 2000 model made in the US. Its got a 22 jumbo frets, ebony fretboard with a quartersawn maple neck and an aldar body. 3 way pickup selector with 2 volume pots and 1 tone pot. The Duncan pickups are an SH-2 in the neck and a TB-4 in the bridge. Origonal Floyd rose is pretty cool. This one was black with gold pinstrips wich made a really cool contrast to the black body. Nothing special here, standard stuff.

Sound : 10
This guitar seriously is THE SHIT. I play a lot of the early ozzy stuff with Rhoads and it handles this stuff really well. I play it through a Marshall DSL 401 for practicing at home. When I play it through the natural distortion it is really smooth and sweet. Clean is crisp and clear. The TB-4 gives it the extra punch for pushing it into overdrive. The SH-2 can be warm and full of tones. You can Play a lot of stuff with this guitar, but it is mostly designed to be a shreeder with heavy sounds and played with distortion.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
When I picked it up at the store, the action was set up perfectly, real low and no buzz. The pickups were at the perfect height. The floyd rose was level with the body. The fretboard was a little dirty, but i just wiped it off with some oil. The ebony was the smoothest I have felt, and so was the maple neck. No flaws what so ever.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I have giged with it once since I bought it, so i can't say it is reliable, but it looks sturdy enough. Built like a rock. Should last a life time. I am sure I can depend on it when i get into some touring during the summer. NEVER GIG WITHOUT A BACK UP, ESPECIALLY WITH A GUITAR EQUIPED WITH A FLOYD ROSE. If one string breaks, you won't get the bridge re-aligned.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have not dealt with them yet.

Perfect. Plays like a dream. Smooth. Love everything about it. I really get pissed off if there is 1 thing i don't like about a guitar, and I can't say that about this guitar. All I can say is if it is at your local guitar store, try it out.

It's made in USA, got 22 frets, there's 3 controls and a 3-way selector. Pickup configurations is Duncan SH-2 for the neck and Duncan TB-4 for the bridge. The body is made in Alder and the neck in Maple. The body is totaly black and rocks, 'cuz the paint won't get out even if you scratch it badly (but don't try)!!
It's a shreddingneck and the feeling and speed ROCKS.

It's great for metal and sounds really great without distortion with a little reverb too. You can get it to sound basically how you want it to sound. I love it.

This great metal axe was made in the USA in the later 90's. It has the well known Randy Rhoads shape (V-shape with one shorter wing, for those who don't know), with a very fast, finished neck and the usual neck through body construction, which gives an absolutely great feeling and a great ability to play in the highest frets. It has the usual 22 jumbo frets on an ebony fretboard with mother of pearl sharkfin inlays. Neck and Headstock have a white binding, the neckwood is maple. The main color is black, but on top of the poplar body they made a great airbrush called "Lighnting Sky". (you can imagine how it looks). The electronics are passive Seymour Duncan humbucker (SH-2 Neck / TB-4 Bridge) with 1 volume and 2 tone controls and a 3-way switch. The bridge is a black original Floyd Rose. It came with a very, very big and secure case. Contra: The volume control can be anoying when palm muting on the higher strings. It's always in your way then and you could turn it down if you don't watch out.

Sound : 10
I play mostly HardRock/Metal (Tesla, Def Leppard, Queensryche, Scorpions, MSG, Whitesnake) and it has an absolutely great sound, fitting my stile. Although it's a guitar for playing distorted, it can be played clean, too, but don't try to use it for strumming, that won't sound good. The bridge pickup really blows and the only possibility to play clean with this pickup is to use a good multi-effects processor. When using bridge and neck or neck alone, you get a suprisingly good clean sound, but when distorted, the neck pickup sounds to hollow for my taste.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar was well set up when I got it altough my dealer bought it at a big music mess in Germany and sold it to me about 200$ cheaper than normal. The adjustments were perfectly made.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've played this guitar live a few times and I had no problem with it, why should I? The only problem that could occur would be a torn string because of the Floyd Rose. The finish is nearly perfect, I can only see little scratches on the body after one year. Be careful with this long axe, you easily slam the upper wing against something, which is too hard for the finish, so be careful when turning around. I can absolutely depend on this guitar and if necessary I would also use it without a backup. (If I have strings on it, which are not older than 2-3 weeks)

Customer Support : 5
Never dealt with Jackson because of my RR1, but I tried to get a custom shop offer; well, I've been waiting for over a year now...

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for just 2 years 'til now, but I needed a good guitar to play on, so I bought it as I got enough money. It is easy to get used to a Jackson, but (for me at least) it's a little bit hard to play on other guitars, that's mainly because of the complete different feeling of the neck and the frets and the neck through body construction. My other gear I own is a AX1G multi-effects processor and a Hughes&Kettner Attax 50 amp. If it were stolen, I'd buy a Jackson again (maybe a Warrior) or I'd go to a local guitar manufacturer in Germany, who can make really good guitars. I love almost everything about this guitar but I wish it would have 24 frets as I wanted it first. I choose this guitar because of it's great look and special sound.

This is an early 90s (I think) model Jackson. It has 22 jumbo (again, I think) frets. It comes with Bill Lawrence pickups, which I think are great, but more about that later. There's an XL500 in the bridge and an L500 in the neck. It comes with the Jackson facsimile of a Floyd Rose fully floating trem, it is comepletely identical as far as I can tell. Locking Tuners, etc., etc., etc. It doesn't have a bunch of wild features like a parker or anything, but it has all the essentials for a metal guitarist.

Sound : 10
This guitar is great for my style, which is extremely inspired by guys like John Petrucci, Eric Johnson, and George Lynch (and of course the late GREAT Randy Rhoads). I do tend to get a little bluesy from time to time (In church situations especially) but my main staple is definitely hard rock-metal. The guitar has a very nice full sound which makes it great for metal. Getting pinch harmonics is very easy and tapping works wonderfully.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The guitar was in good shape when I got it, but the springs in the cavity behind the trem were old so I had to put new ones in, but that wasn't such a bad thing. Things like that do tend to happen over so many years, so it wasn't a problem. The finish, which I neglected to mention earlier, is the beautiful eerie dress, still offered by Jackson. It's a very cool looking finish. It was set up with very comfortable low action when I bought it.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This category is a tad below the others. I've managed to accidentally destroy several little parts on the trem, which has been a bit of a nuisance. I don't even use the whammy bar that much. I'm going to get new saddles for it pretty soon, so it's not so much a problem with the guitar. As far the rest of the stuff goes, it seems to be very solidly built.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Beats me, I've never called them.

Overall Rating : 10
I've only been playing for about two years, but I feel like I'm coming along quickly. The guitar I was playing before this had some weird flaws to it (which I've had fixed since then) but it just can't compare to this guitar. It's one of the nicest guitars I've ever played. I play it into a line6 axsys 212 combo and I can get pretty decent tones of all types. I've done a little bit of recording and playing live with this guitar and it's up to both tasks. I would definitely by this guitar again, and if it was stolen, I'd hunt that person down and feed their flesh to rabid demon weasels! In conclusion, it is a great guitar.

1990 is the year, USA is the place. 22 jumbo frets, 2-volumes, 1-tone. 1 3-way switch (Up is bridge pickup, down is neck pickup). Pickups are EMG (EMG-81 in bridge, EMG-85 in neck). Active electronics. Poplar body, maple neck, neck-thru construction. Ebony fretboard w/cream binding on neck and headstock. Lovely burgandy type finish, black hardware. Bridge is a Schaller Original Floyd Rose. Tuners are Jackson standard, non-locking. Wide, thin neck, neck finished like the body. Came with two wrenches, a clip on the headstock back for the wrenches, and a GREAT Jackson hardshell case.

Sound : 9
I play metal metal metal (METAL UP YOUR ASS), obviously. This guitar fits my style 100%!! The sound is VERY high output, distorted, but cleans up nicely.. it growls, screeches, and POUNDS all at once. AMAZING. CLEAR tone even when heavily distorted, thanks to the EMGs. I use a peavey ultra plus amp, perfect match.. Bright tone with not much midrange, defined, tight bottom end. I can get a great clean/jazzy tone with the tone rolled down.. I wish.. well I wish for 24 frets, that's it.. this guitar has THE TONE! THE TONE!!!!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I bought it used, so I dunno really. Had .10 strings like I like, good action, but I lowered a little. Pickups were too low. Everything else was nearly perfect, just needed my tweaking to my specs.

It's made in 1994 and it has 22 frets and neck-thru body installation. Ebony fingerboard and the shark fin inlay's made it look great. It has the Floyd rose bridge and Reflex active pick-ups with three knobs. I thought it needed a switch for neck pick-up, so I made it. Now I can switch between bridge and neck pick-ups and make the sound beat. And ofcourse it has a three way switch for pick-ups.

Sound : 10
Reflex pick-ups produce very rich and sharp tone, so I can use it well when I play music like Ozzy Osbourne/Randy Rhoads. When I turn the second knob to full, the guitar sounds like it's going thru a Wah-Wah pedal. When playing with clean, the sound is like crystal.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
It's white and there are black bevellings on the side of the horns. Neck is bordered with some creamy colored material (If anyone knows what is the material of the neck border, please E-mail to me). Nothing more to say.

This guitar is better than Gibson because Gibson doesn't have a floyd rose. It's like Fender but it has just much more properties. It stays tune when you push and pull the tremolo bar. U.S.A. made Randy Rhoads offset flying V; 22 Frets; 1 volume and 2 tone controls (1 for each humbucker); Pickup Configuration: H/H; Neck: Duncan SH-2, Bridge: Duncan TB-4; Body: Poplar; Neck: Maple; FingerBoard: Ebony (Pearl Sharkfin Enlays); Tremelo: Original Floyd Rose (Locking System).
Included a hardshell case the size of California and all the necessary tools to tweak the guitar (minus Screwdrivers).

Sound : 9
The sound is absolutely great, and quite balanced despite it's 'Heavy Metal' visual tendencies. The clean tone is quite warm and clear and distortion is prettier than a $5.00 whore. I love the fact that it is one of the best Metal axes I've ever played, and that it is not limited to just that. The Duncan pickups really add a lot to this Guitar's sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar came perfectly set up straight from the factory, except I had a huge problem with it. It came set up for .09's and I prefer .10's. After quite a few adjustments to the spring tension and the truss rod, things were great again.
I strongly suggest that anyone who has never used a floyd rose before, and requires changes made to their guitar configuration to take it to a professional and have them show you the ropes. It is a VERY delicate system and if it is not set up properly, you'll hate this guitar (and any other with a Floyd Rose system).
All in all, it is very customizable and will work perfectly if tweaked properly.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've gotten pretty drunk and bashed this thing into walls by accident. I always faint when this happens because it's one of those guitars that is just so pretty you don't want to see a blemish in its entirety. So, I guess I haven't hit it hard enough yet. Funny thing is, I've actually taken paint off the wall with it and it didn't harm the finish. I'm quite lucky its finish is so solid, 'cause I'm very anal when it comes to the appearance of my guitars.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't had to deal with the company yet; had it for 8 months and it has been smooth sailing so far. There is a short term warranty for 1 year and I believe there is also a limited life time warranty.

Overall Rating : 9
This guitar is very solid for what it is. I couldn't expect anything more from it. I give it an overall 9. For live purposes a 10 and studio purposes an 8.
If my guitar was stolen, I would hunt the man/woman down and impale them with the long fin of the 'V'. If it were lost, I would drink lots of alcohol and cry myself to sleep for a few months. After washing enough dishes and playing enough crappy gigs I would buy another.
What I love most... is the most elegant part on the guitar (and many other Jacksons) is the Ebony fretboard. It is amazingly smooth and completely comfortable.
What I hate most... is that I freak out whenever I accidentally bump into something. This guitar is just too pretty to scuff.
For me, it's a live guitar; bottom line. It may find its way into the studio, but I can think of other guitars that have more 'signature' tones. You probably won't find much appeal for this guitar unless you're into heavy metal, but just bear in mind, looks can be decieving....

I see nobody else has posted for this Jackson...Sooo its a 1994 solid bodied 24 fret wonder USA MADE with the shark fin inlay's usually it has the 3-way switch and 3 knobs which control the humbuckers ...BUT Im left-handed sooo i guted the cavity and machined a new cover to fit only 1 knob and the switch and I am mucho happy with it now. I has the floyd rose (which is a total BITCH till you play with it for a day or two(or three!?) I got really lucky with the pickups, I got mine with bill lawrence pickups already in it(great metal pickups!) Ebony fret board (the coolest thing about this is that its always smooth and pretty(with some help from me,(lemon oil) Basic jackson tuners And the neck ...Man the neck is the coolest thing on it!..I am accostomed to gibson necks but I love the feel of my jackson neck THERES NOTHING LIKE IT .....

Well.... I play pretty heavy music (percussive palm muting metal ) and the Bill Lawerence pickups are killer 'Cause they resonate every small aspect of your playing....There tops man.. The guitar is made of poplar(Never heard of it till I got it but it sounds great) so no complaint here........The sound is rich but only a little bit of variety here,.. But I have other guitars for the other tones I need...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Action is extremely low (floyd rose say's Im welcome)I bought it used and Im not a clairvoiant so I dont want to guess if it was set up perfect new or not. All the holes and cuts are perfect(Its a hand made USA Jackson...flawless ...now the only problem i have with this guitar is the finish....not the color but the saran wrap type SHIT they put on it its flaking and peeling around the edges of the humbuckers and cavity cover. (OH MAN IS IT IRRITATING)...ALSO THE HORNS ARE VERY SHARP SO'S YOU HAVE TO WATCH THEM AS WELL FOR DINGS AND WHAT-NOT....)
