This guitar is made in China, no suprise there. The first thing I noticed was the finish. It was really deep and smooth. I've looked at many much higher price guitars in stores and seen nothing better. I mean, even with guitars in the 4 figure range!! The cherry sunburst is just as nice as any I've seen. Smooth and pretty. The other day I went into a branch of a major guitar chain in our city and there was a Les Paul Custom sitting by the front door. Couldn't resist, so I picked it up. Now, I admit it's been awhile since I actually held a Gibson LP Custom. I'd forgotten how heavy they are, and how thick the neck was. The Jay Turser has a thin neck that is much more comfortable to play, at least for me. But the thing that struck me was the action. It was no different than the Jay Turser I had at home. I decided right then the Custom isn't for me. To heavy; in weight, price, and hype.

The sound can be whatever you want it to be. If you want dirty, you got it. If you want jazz, you got it. When I got this guitar I only had a little cheesy Squire 15 watt amp. I recently bought a 50 watt Marshall and that's when the real sound of this guitar became apparent. I have some mp3 files I downloaded from Gibson and put on a CD. I play it through the Marshall and can match any of them dead on. For the price I paid, this is probably the best sounding non-Gibson on the market today. The lighter weight probably doesn't allow quite the warmth of a Gibson, but hey, I'm not recording. The warmth is deep though. I don't know, it might be as nice as a real LP. The range is clear and crisp with either pickup and I don't have any plans at all to replace them. I may buy some covers someday to dress it up, but that's not a priority.

It had been a long time since I actually played an elecric guitar when I bought this guitar. It didn't take long for it all to come back. One of my best friends in high school bought a Gibson Les Paul Standard in 1970 with a Gold Top. Now that was a guitar. Anyway, this guitar reminded me of that one the way it was set up out of the box. The top isn't bookmatched, because it looks like one piece of wood. I realize that for this price it can only be veneer, but unless you know that you would never be able to tell it. The binding and the stain are as good as anything I've ever seen on a guitar, at any price. Sometimes I wonder if they slipped up on this one and put a little too much quality into it. Seriously!! The top has one little black spec, about the size of a period on it. I think it makes it look even more authentic. It has a set neck, which is one thing I wanted for sure when I bought an electric guitar. The neck meets the body beautifully and the finish there is perfect.
The tuners are very good quality. Rarely to I have to tune when playing. There is absolutely no noise when flipping the selector switch or turning the volume and tone knobs either.

This guitar could be played night in and night out without missing a beat. Everything about it seems better than average. I think the strap buttons are very sturdy. I've seen some reviews of this guitar that might make you nervous about the buttons, but I don't see it. At this time it is the only electric guitar I have, though I have owned a Gibson SG, Fender Esquire (pre-60's), an Ampen Dan Armstrong, a Univox Les Paul copy, and several other guitars in my time. I don't see a reason to have another one for backup. I don't play professionally, but I like to play just about everyday. I would be majorly suprised if this guitar ever pooped out. It just won't!!

I've been playing off and on for over 30 years. I was a music major in college. I have owned many different guitars, both acoustic and electric. Everything from a Lyle (a whot?) to a Gibson SG Custom. Yamaha to Ovation in acoustics.
If this guitar were ever lost or stolen, I would replace it with the same thing. Last month we went on vacation. It's funny, but I put the guitar in the gigbag that came with it and put it in the back of a closet. I guess I was paranoid about someone getting into the house and seeing it as an object of great value. I for sure didn't want to lose that guitar. I had three guitars stolen at one time once. I never want to experience that again!
One thing I really enjoy about this guitar is that I can walk into my music room, pick it up, turn on the Marshall and play. It is already in tune. It just doesn't go out of tune, and I do lot of bending. In comparing it with other guitars in the shops, I only see the really expensive models even holding a candle to this cheap little Jay Turser. The cheap ones, that are in the range I paid, aren't even worth taking of the hook. I'm spoiled by the looks of mine. That's one of the things I like about it also. When I walk into my music room, I always get a little rush seeing it sitting there on the stand, just begging to cut loose. It just looks a lot more expensive than it cost.
For the overall rating I have to give it an 8 because of the price. But for pleasure and doing what it's supposed to do, a solid 10!!

Bought it in 2003 for $179. LP copy. Set neck. Nice shiny black with chrome hardware.
I got a brand new one, but the floor model. Being LP clone (sort of) it has pretty much all the features that LP has. It looks nice, has decent sound, the parts and wiring used are rather cheap, but hey, what do you expect for $200. There were two things that I have to mention. One is that the plastic part of a pickup switch was broken off, and even though it still worked it was too short to be comfortable, so I had to replace the switch ($13). The other thing is that one of the saddle screws was stuck and could not be turned (A string), so I could not set the intonation correctly - the bridge had to be changed ($16). I could go for the warranty service but it would have taken longer than I wanted.

I can get the sound I want out of it with minor tweeking.

Action was set to my liking, the pickups needed to be raised a little bit - not a big deal. Other than two things I mentioned previously it was fine. Of course it's not on par with Gibson LP, but it's not in the same price range either. All in all- very decent guitar.

Too early to tell, but so far so good. Since I had to replace the bridge and a switch other peaces of hardware may not last long. Knoking off a few points.

To replace the above mentioned parts would take a few weeks, which was not acceptable. I didn't deal directly with JT, the rating is for the local dealer.

I bought it used off Ebay but I believe it was made in China in 2000 or 2001. It has 22 frets and is a cutaway. Has a 3 way switch and is, I guess the sunburst finish, which by the way is excellent. Just got but the tuners seem to be of good quality. Fantastic sound. The best $138.00 + $22.00 S&H that I've ever spent.

Bright full sounds. I need to get a good Amp but the little 10 watt Yahama that I'm forced to use right now still sounds great. With the Fender 70 watt I have comming I can only wonder.

Bought used so have no idea how factory set-up was. Finish is unreal for a guitar this cheap. It has one small ding at the top of the head but no big deal. I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would sell this guitar for this kind of money. I think he could have got more at a pawn-shop Am knocking off 2 points just for the ding but if not for that it is a 10.

Have no idea yet but it seems to be very well built. From what I've heard about Jay Turser, except for that one guy that seems to think that because it was made in China they used slave labor, I wouldn't be afraid to use without a back-up. Finish looks to be excellent but I won't know about the strap buttons until I use it for a month or so.

Have no idea. As I bought it used I didn't get any paperwork with it. I guess with this one I'll just have to cross my finger but for $138.00 I'll rish it.

Playing at playing for over 30 years. I played Bass with different bands and am just getting into 6 strings. I have a Norman, Sigma, Takamine acoustics. This Jay Turser with another one on the way. My Gibson EBO was stolen a few years ago and lost interest after that in-
till recently. If this were lost or stolen I think I'd replace as soon as possible.

Ok, so, I was not really looking to buy an Electric Guitar but, was hanging out in the guitar shop looking at cheap electric guitars when they unpacked this instrument. I had to have it. It the purple Les Paul knock off and a very good copy, in my opinion. the sound is slightly brighter than I expected but, I kinda like it. The action is very good. The construction is better than I would have anticipated in an accurate Les Paul that was under $300 bucks. I worked a deal for a soft gig bag and a guitar stand also. The tuners are smooth and are really quite good. If I do anything to this guitar it will be to replace the pick ups. No plans to rush into that though.

Quite good. When I bought it the guitar shop had played it to insure it was ok so every thing was adjusted. The only complaint that I might issue was that the little tag behind the pick-up switch looks kind cheap to me. Big deal. It's not a Gibson Les Paul, Right.

I have been playing in a band (every week) for about two years. I own an Aria Pro 12 string, a Yamaha classical, an Ovation Celebrity Delux, and a Washburn, Music Barn, Custom. This is my first electric guitar and I just love it. I tried a lot of Strat versions and to me, none were as good as this guitar (in the price range). If it were stolen I would get another one. If you want an inexpensive Les Paul that is not as heavy as a man hole cover then this is your axe.

This is a brand new out of the box Jay Turser Les Paul copy in a Transparent Purple burst. all the standard les paul features. Pickups are unknown and will most likely be replaced. After opening it up to check out the guts the wiring seemed to be pretty decent, wasn't the cheap thin wiring that I've seen on some guitars. The pots are 500k and they work really well. Tuners are actually pretty decent, nice and snug and so far its been holding the tunning very well. The weight of this thing is perfect, it won't give a cinder block a run for its money.

I play alot of rock and this guitar compliments it. Has the les paul sound. I run my guitar through an Ibanez smash box and chorus/flanger to a fender amp. sounds a million times better than the strat I was using. I always wanted the les paul sound but wasn't willing to pay the price. This guitar is the way to go if you want the sound but like me, your not ready to dish out the 2 grand for the gibson. The only problem I have is that the pickups are not what they could be. They'll be replaced with some duncans for sure.

This guitar suprised the crap out of me. the guitar was setup pretty well. low action with no buzzing what so ever. The finish on this guitar is what really shines... The transparent purple burst finish is awsome!! when I opened the box to this thing my mouth dropped. I was not expecting this kinda finish on a guitar in this price range. They did cut corners on the fingerboard. its rosewood and you can see the lower labor cost towards the higer frets. I don't know how to describe it but that was the only part of the guitar that looked cheap, but you have to get up real close to notice it.

I think this guitar will withstand alot of punishment. Like I said the tuners really suprised me. I can go playing for 2 hours and not have to tune this thing once. it really amazed me.The finish was put on real thick and its not going anywhere. The strap on buttons are questionable. I'm not to sure how long those things are going to last.

I've been playing off and on for the past 10 years, more heavily now. I have a strat, ibanez acoustic, martin acoustic, and now this Jt les paul copy. This guitar basically came better than I was expecting. for the price I was thinking a junker, but figured what the heck, lets give it a try. I am sure glad I did. If it was stolen, heck yeah I'd get another one, for this price and the quality I'd be stupid not to. One other thing, Its not a Gibson!! so stop trying to compare it to one. If you go by the guitar as a whole and forget that gibson makes a les paul and look at it from that point of view. You'll see that this is a very good guitar.
