single cutaway, 2 alnico lipstick p.ups, new recent stock, made in nashville, 24 frets. masonite/plywood semi-hollowbody, aquaburst finish --much closer to green than the bluer danelectros. wood on metal bridge w. 2-point height adjustment. truss rod is easily adjustable without removing the well-bolted-on neck, rosewood fretboard, slender neck has an lp-jr. feel. 3-way pickup switch, one volume, one tone, metal strap-buttons, klusonesque tuners. jerry joneses are simple like the basic fenders, and built as well as the pre-CBS ones.

i traded up from a danelectro u-2 reissue, which i liked alot & which got me playing again to the point where i felt i needed the better sound of the jerry jones version. from what i've heard, mr. jones makes the best sounding lipstick pickups planetwide. It sounds warm, aggressive and very punchy; it easily gets both the pre cbs tele and set-neck p-90 sound, not so much of the strat honk that the dano got. does jangle nicely, though a tighter, less birdsy jangle than the dano. this is a beautiful-sounding, well-behaved, surprisingly versatile guitar. does country to blues to experimental to hard rock, but definitely not for metal unless you really must.

it had 9's on it in the store, which the owner changed to 10's & resetup. it's the best playing & feeling guitar i've ever owned. the finish is not shiny like the danelectros, the stucco-textured vinyl strip around the sides of the body is much heavier duty than the first-aid tape on the Dano. part of the reason i traded up the dano was the finish. One hot & humid nyc night got me worried that the dano might eventually melt or warp.

solid. the pickup switch is heavy-duty, the dense plastic tone/volume knobs are expertly fixed to super-solid & smooth pots. the jones is a little heavier than the dano & is much, much more solidly built.

this is my dream guitar. absolutely amazing for the price. it's got 3 vibes to choose from at any one particular time: 1. the "quality to the masses" vibe of the old "cheapo" sears danos. 2. a cool, but not too in one's face, retro vibe. 3. a domestically handmade demon in wolf's in sheep's clothing vibe.
