This is a Martin influenced Dreadnaught sized with an engleman Spruce top and Mahogany back and sides. It features forward set pre-war type scalloped X bracing with a Rosewood frettboard, Bone nutt and saddle. Made in China but definatly not like the older chinese guitars. It is Quality through out with American designer Greg Rich's
(designer of the Blueridge line of guitars) These are truly Well designed and Quality built guitars.Beacuse of the details such as Bone nutt and saddle and the use of Engleman spruce I will rate this a 9 here. You just dont get all that on a $300 guitar anywhere else
Sound

The sound is very ritch with a definatle Martinesque feel. Nice clarity on the high's with a deep thumping bass and scooped mids. This is my favorite guitar as far as sound goes that I have owned to date and that includes 4 guitars in the $1000-$2500 price range. I Love the volume I get from this Dread and yet it still responds to the limited finger picking that I do.
I play classic rock,Blues,Country.and some mountain Gospel and for that it works perfectly. I know your thinking NO WAY a $300 Johnson but I am telling you as someone who is very critical of sound and the sound of this Guitar is excellent

I have owned a couple Taylors and a Jumbo Gibson as well as some high end Seagulls and this guitar for my style and my ears beats them all. The Sound of this guitar is something special and I am in awe of how it can sell for $300. After a long road and alot of wheeling and dealing it is hard to believe that this is the Guitar that I would not let go of and would replace if it were stolen or destroyed.
