Just a cheep standard acoustic. Not sure how to tell, but pretty sure laminated top. Made in China. Has a nice glossy finish that's held up.

Sound : 8
For the price it has a full sound. Really satisfied with that aspect of it. You can definitely hear its cheapness when comparing to slightly more expensive guitars, but I've played it front of people with no worries. With this guitar I think it sounds better once the strings go flat. Maybe the new strings accentuate the "cheap" part of it. The 8 is the quality for the price, or I'd give it lower.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Everything seems to have been put together nicely. No buzzes anywhere. The action is a bit high (I'm assuming that means strings are high from fretboard- if not, then that's what I mean) so its not as friendly on my fingers as other guitars.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This is probably my favorite aspect of the guitar and reason for the review, especially for the price. Nice finish, tuners are smooth and work, I've never used a backup playing somewhere (probably because I don't have one). I've owned it for about 6 years and taken it everywhere. Camping, the beach, the mall, the street and never with a case- I don't even own a case. It's just as good as when I bought it.

This is what I've been learning guitar on for the past 5 or 6 years. Great beginner guitar (Got mine for $100, could probably find it cheaper now). Great for something to lug around and get thrashed. If it was damaged it'd be time to move up to something better. But if I needed something I didn't mind getting sand in, I'd certainly consider getting another one.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Put together pretty nice for a guitar that lists around $100

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar was three years old when I got it. Previous owner learned on it. Except for Pick-wear, it is in good condition. So I'm guessing that it has good original construction.

I own a China-Strat, and an Ovation. This is a nice Guitar.

2003, Standard entry level dreadnaught, with spruce top.
Nato neck, entry level tuners.

I ordered a Rouge RA 100 and was sent this guitar instead.
That is OK because I'm very impressed with this one.

Sound : 9
Wow... Big surprise, I have several very nice acoustics, but needed
a beater for camping and parties.
For the price I was willing to settle for lower quality sound for this price. HOWEVER imagine my surprise when I tuned her up and went for a strum... Excelent tone for this price range. Doesn't have the
richness of more expensive acoustics but you will never be embarassed
to play this guitar in front of others.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Enrty level but adjustable.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Seems very solid... I'm impressed.

So far no need.

You could play blues, country or folk on this guitar.
When strumed it has a rich brassy sound that is very full.
The sound is ehat sells this guitar. If you can adjust high action.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 1
Set-up very poor at factory.
The action is very high and its hard to play anything on it.
Flaws on this guitar? First of all Musicians Friend was running a special on this guitar for $49.99. They shiped me the wrong guitar.

Ordered a Rogue RA100D & Received a Johnston JG620N

G String creaks when tuned.

Nick on front of guitar near binding

9th fret looks like somebody took a file to it and ruffed it up

The neck has glue on the edges from the neck binding

The neck clear coat is chiped in several places.

I'm sending it back and I'm going to try to get another one. I will post here on what type of quality I get. Better I hope.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Seams reliable.

I have been playing for 25 plus years.
I'm married now and I have long sold all my nice guitars.
I wanted something just to couch potato with.
The rosewood finger board seems very cheap and ruff.
For $49.99 I know I cant complain but this guitar is normaly $99.99.
With all the other guitar company's out there Johnson could do better even in this price range.
Like I said I was shiped the wrong guitar. Musicans Friend said that the Rogue RA-100D & the Johnson JG620N are thesame guitar except for the name on the top. Its weird that they would advertise for the Rogue RA-100D and you are shipped Rogue RA-100D. I'm not happy but I'm going to try it one more time.

Features : 9
Dreadnaught acoustic, no electronics, natural solid spruce top, Grover style tuners. Steel strap button end pin.

I rated a 9 because it has all the features I was looking for for a basic acoustic dreadnaught.

The reason I bought this guitar is because I REALLY wanted to get a cheap mandolin and learn to play it. I looked thru the Musicians Friend catalog and saw their "Guitar/Mando" package for $99.99 and figgered that wouldn't be too much of a loss if they both were pieces of junk. I am very happy with both, but am reviewing this guitar because of how amazed I was at it's sound and the value for the dollar. Musicians Friend doesn't spec the model of what you are getting in their catalog. They advertise it as a "house brand."

Sound : 9
The guitar surprised the daylights out of me. Great volume, good sustain, no fret buzz. All I have done is tuned it!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Action was nice. Guitar had no real "external" flaws, however, there was some visible glue drips on the inside. The edges of the frets are not as nice as I would like, but nicer than the Takamine Jasmine that I would use as a comparably priced guitar.

I give it a 7 because it was way nicer than what I had expected to receive.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I have only had it for two weeks. I don't see anything that I would be concerned about. It seems very solid.

I play for my own personal enjoyment, occasional kid's church playing, and some "family jams" with my sister & bro-in-law. For what I am doing, the guitar is perfect.

Regarding the question "Would you use it on a gig without a backup?" For playing other than at home, I would always take my other acoustic, in case of a broken string.

(Personal note...I get a kick out of the question "Will this guitar withstand live playing?" As opposed to "dead" playing???)

Haven't had any need for customer support. The paperwork says it has a 2 year warrenty.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing a little over a year. I also own an Alvarez Regent acoustic, Peavey Raptor Int'l Series strat copy, and a Rogue RM-100 mandolin that came with this "guitar package."

If it were lost or stolen, I would definately buy another one.

Before I bought this guitar, I was looking to buy another Alvarez. Now, I am quite content to play the daylights out of this one and put the other money towards my next purchase, which will be a Peavey Generation EXP w Piezo pickup.

I took the mando & guitar over to church last night and let one of our "regular" guitar players check them out. He couldn't believe the sound from this guitar. He commented that the action was great. Another friend that I let play it was also amazed by the sound and feel of this guitar.

Purchased 2/03. Made in China. Spruce top, black binding that I like. Nato neck. Nice glossy finish. Standard dreadnought. Easy to tune gover tuners. Nice easy to play neck. Bought as "bluegrass" package came with Johnson mandolin. Not too bad either.

Sound : 10
Like straight acoustic rhythm (no fingerpicking ability yet), folk, country, bluegrass. Great tone. The medium Martin strings it came with sounded the best but too hard to play. Changed to A'ddario Custom light. made brighter sound. but still great. I thought it had fret buzz. But realized it was just me !!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Well, now here you go. Action was high, didn't know any better and just played through. The frets were sharp. Just got used to it.
Plastic nut and saddle.
Great construction overall. No Flaws. Nice glossy finish.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Well, this is the reason I'm writing this review. I dropped it down the stairs. There was no damage to the body just a few nicks, but it wouldn't play. It sounded horrible. I took it to the repair shop and explained what happened and discussed my other complaints. Well, now it plays even better. Lower action, new saddle and nut. Live playing? Probably not professionally. But around the campfire, on my front porch, and informally this is what I would play. For the price, no worries. It's a tank.

Customer Support : 5
2Year. I've heard of better.
N/A . Damage not covered by warranty.

Overall Rating : 10
Playing short time. Don't own any other guitars but after I got this one so cheap and it sounded so good, I thought Wow what would a better ,more expensive guitar sound like. Went shopping like you're supposed to played other guitars along with this one in price range of $500-$700. Not much difference. (Until you get into the thousand+ range.) For this price, I would buy another if anything happened to it just to have a good sounding solid guitar to drag around. But I'd get it set up first thing. I'm attached to this thing. Maybe I just got lucky.

Bought 2/03- Made in China,Spruce Top (lam), Nato Neck, Nice glossy finish. Newbie here, the rest doesn't mean too much to me. My brother promised to teach me to play, I found a "bluegrass" package at Musician's Friend. Included a mandolin. ( which wasn't bad either).

Sound : 10
I expected a cracker box for $50 bucks, but what the heck , I wanted to see if I could play and I could buy a better one later. Suprise, it sounds great. I've played it against alot of others in my price range ($500 - $700) and no difference. You really have to step up to beat the sound. Maybe I just got lucky.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Well, for a $50 dollar guitar, what do you expect. Action was high. The medium Martin strings were hard to play for a novice. (But they sounded great.) Changed them to A'ddario Custom light, EJ26 the sound difference was brassier. The frets were a little sharp. But I hear this about a lot of cheap guitars.

The finish was the best part of this guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 10
OK, this is the reason I'm reviewing this guitar. Last week, 5/09/03 I dropped this thing down the stairs. It bounced on the strings. When I picked it up, only nicks on the edges. It didn't break or crack at all. But it wouldn't play. Horrible. (Well, maybe not, now I could get that better guitar I was talking about.) The guy said something about cracked bracing and that maybe he could do something about my other complaints. Well, It's even better than before. He replaced the nut and saddle. adjusted the action. I will keep this as long as I can and if it doesn't survive the nest disaster. I will get another one. I drag it all over. Now with no fear.

Chinese. Dreadnoght. no features, it's a cheap acoustic, what do you expect?!

Sound : No Opinion
Very good tone, thats why i bought it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
I had to return the first one for a high fret, but this one seems good, the top E can occasionly give fits. On the underside of the tuners, they put paper on, and you can MAJORLY see the glue. the neck is hella thick, can do good bar chords.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Tough, i dropped it once and has bamged it on a bunch of stuff. The strap buttons are solid.

2 year warranty. He swaped the one witha high fret easy.

I like it, neck it thick, but hte tone makes up for all of it. Good for the price.

Its your average acoustic guitar. No pickups, no cutaway. Nothing special here but, it is what you pay for. A solid acoustic guitar.

Sound : 7
It seems to sound well in the lower registers and some of the higher, but mids sound muddy and bland. But for the money it definitely worth it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
It was well made. Action is about right maybe a little on the high side.

Reliability/Durability : 9
great. this is a beater that will last you a long time. I don't think I would want to play live with it if I had a choice but, its not bad.

Customer Support : 7
no idea

Overall Rating : 8
The reason I rank it so high is the price I paid and the long term value of the guitar. It is very reliable and sounds good in contrast with the competition at the same price range. Great for camps, traveling, or extended visits.

Manufactured in China. Full size dreadnought with laminated Spruce top, who knows what back and sides, bound rosewood fretboard, rosewood bridge, Gotoh tuners, nickel silver frets, and gloss finish. Nothing came with it, bought guitar, leather strap, and used chip case for $120 in December of 1999.

Sound : 6
Used for light Acoustic Rock/Pop. Mainly strumming and some fingerpicking. Has a full bottom end that would be expected of a dread, and a fair high end. Mid-range a little subdued and muddy, but maybe better with good quality strings. Want to try some good phosphor bronze. With the current strings, seems to have a slight intonation problem on the "B" string when attacking pretty hard.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 3
Setup from the factory was pretty bad. Had the store adjust the truss rod at purchase to eliminate fret buzz. Action was still so high that barres were impossible above the 5th fret. Have since lowered the saddle. Better, but not great. Neck angle would have to be adjusted or have the bridge shaved to get the action down much lower. Makes bends extremely difficult.

Fret work is okay. no rough edges, nothing loose. Finish is great. Wish they had a stained back and sides as opposed to painted. Gotoh tuners are smooth and accurate. Hold tune forever.

However, this was the best out of about 30 guitars sifted through at the store. Many had obvious problems like tops bulging, cracked bridges, or slightly warped necks. A couple had vibrations like loose bracing or something. Need to be very picky when buying one of these.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Seems like a very solid guitar. Have had it for a year and it's built like a tank. No scratches, and tuners are great. The end strap button is metal and has never come loose. Had a plastic button added to the heel of the neck. Never any problems there.

Don't play anywhere but home, so don't know how it would stand up for a working musician.

Customer Support : No Opinion
This has a two year warranty. Haven't had any problems, so don't know anything about customer service.

Overall Rating : 7
I've been playing for a year and bought this guitar for something to learn on. Figured I wouldn't lose too much if I put it down and never picked it back up. It has suprised me how good this sounds for the money. I compared this to several Alvarez, Fender, Yamaha, and Oscar Schmidts at twice the money before settling on this. I know several "real" musicians that wouldn't be caught dead playing one of these, but I've also suprised some of them with how good the sound is. If it were more playable, I wouldn't hesitate to replace it if lost or stolen. But, my next guitar will be a solid top with a little wider fingerboard to accomadate fingers a little better (maybe a Seagull S6+ Spruce?).
