I assume this guitar was made in 2003 in China. 21 frets, 14 to the body. All Mahogany top, back and sides, fully bound with a sound hole rosette inlay. Rosefretboard on a Mahogany neck. Rosewood bridge with a cheap plastic saddle that chips instantly. Satin finish which, if you run your fingers over it, feels like it was left in a dust storm to dry. Looks ok though. Generic Gotoh-type tuners that feel flimsy. The neck is not too thin or too fat with what appear to be medium frets and an adjustable truss rod. Came with what were advertised as Martin strings, but were horrific and were quickly replaced with a nice set of phosphor-bronze.
Sound

I'm a bass player who likes to dabble in 6-string and I needed a cheap acoustic for those times when I don't want to be bothered or can't plug in the Strat or the Jazz Box. This is a cheap acoustic, hence I bought it. There's is some vibration around the bridge which I can't isolate that is annoying to me, but listeners say they can't hear it. The sound is warm and somewhat muted, but I have heard that thses mahogany ones "open up" with time. For a throw in the car type of stick, this thing isn't too bad.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The factory setup was a disaster. The third fret at the 3rd and sixth strings was high and the neck needed relief badly. Luckily this thing has an adjustable truss rod, so I was able to fix it or I would have had to return it. The finish, as I said, is sandy and rough, but the satin look conceals it from onlookers. The saddle is the worst piece of junk you could ever find. It chipped immediately, but it doesn't really affect the sound of the thing, it's just a sign of the quality we're talking about here. The tuners seem sloppy. I'm not opitimistic about how long they'll last.
Reliability/Durability

The top is X-braced and the construction, although crude, seems stable enough, but I don't know anyone on earth who would perform with this thing. It's fine for the backyard, for casual strumming or quick middle of the night composing, but on stage? HAH! The hardware is flimsy, although the strap button (one) seems solid. I wouldn't depend on this thing for anything except as a floatation device if my canoe flipped. I wouldn't gig with it if i had 3 backups.

None. Never had a dealing, but I don't think there's anyone home if I did. 2 year warranty, but no address or website for a company, so..well, you figure it out.

I have only been playing 6-string for about 6 months, but I have been plaing various instruments all my life (well over 30 years.) I own an Ibanez SR640 and a Fender Fretless Jazz bass, a Fender Strat and a Jay Turser JT-137DC Jazz Box. All of them are precision, professional quality instruments. This guitar is not one of them. I got exactly what I expected when I bought this thing and I am not disappointed, but I am not pleasantly surprised either. If it were lost or stolen, well lost, because nobody in their right mind would steal it, I would buy a Jay Turser acoustic to replace it. Their value for the dollar and construction are miles ahead of Johnson's. I don't love anything about it, but I probably don't hate it either. It is what it is. If you need a cheapo to throw in the car and beat around, this is a serviceable guitar, but that's as far as it goes. I wanted something under $100 and somewhat durable (not a toy) and this fit the bill. If you're willing to pay $40-$50 more, go with the Tursers, they're a steal.

I play bluegrass "influenced" music, flatpicked or Travis fingerstyle. It suits quite well. I did not know at first because it sounded pretty closed, but it had a little bit of a chime that kept me interested and over the past year and 1/2 it has opened up tremendously. It sounds ridiculously good for such an inexpensive guitar. I did not even need it, but I could not pass it up for the price, and I was very curious. Very pleasantly surprised.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Set up about perfect, almost no buzz when played hard, but a nice "snap" considering it is a dreadnought and a cheap one. Top looked great, multi ply plastic binding everywhere, wood rosette (maybe decal, but does not look like) Satin finish, but I believe a catalyzed finish, so should be well protected. Tuning pegs worked well and were tightened properly. I never need to tune much and the intonation is great (goes in tune easy.) I have seen the low end Johnsons and there is no comparison. You go from a completely bound, well-made guitar for not much more than $100. to an absolute piece of junk for about $70. ( no offense to Johnson, I am glad they are filling a niche for affordable well made guitars.) Given the price, it is great.

This guitar will withstand anything except a pete Townshend. It is a good guitar and these catalyzed finishes will last well. Hardware looks a little cheap, but as I said earlier, functions well.

played 20 years, Have a Crafters of Tenessee mahogany backed flat top dreadnought, Hand made classical guitar, Crafter TA-050 12 fret to the body slotted headstock, Michael Kelly Maple backed dreadnought, 2 really nice Washburn acoustics.. a few more a fender strat, tele and 2 Jay Turser electrics which I liked at first but do not play now.
I keep this guitar at our 2nd hom (farm) as my only steel string there. I love it. I tell my wife every time I play it how much I love my $109. guitar. Once again, it sounded closed when I first got it, but it opened up alot and it is surprisingly loud and lively in my lap. x braced top. ladder braced back, corner bracings are crudely cut to accept the scalloped braces, it lends to it's charm for me. I am proud to own it and I feel that this is a golden age for songwriters and players when a good guitar can be had so reasonably.
I have all the other guitars I want (for now) but I am most interested in value when I buy a guitar. 2 of my acoustic guitars are expensive, and I have owned a few other really "nice" guitars in my day, but this guitar really has its own voice and I have written songs on it and I love playing it.

2002 MODEL MADE IN CHINA. I don't really like the Chinese but those 8 year old kids making .80 cents a day sure put this guitar together right. The Solid top, sides and back are all made of Mahogany. The thin neck is also made of Mahogany. Has the Dovetail joint between the neck and body just like the expensive guitars. Rosewood fretboard and bridge.
Comes stock with martin strings and an extremely playable action.
- Sealed Tuners
- Round sound hole
- Satin finish
JUST a Beautiful looking and playing guitar.

I bought this guitar new for $120. I am brand new to playing guitar and have always wanted to learn to play, and at 33 years old I said what the hell im not getting any younger, and i searched around for a inexpensive but quality guitar. I went to about 4 guitar stores and and played probably 30 different name brand guitars before I stumbled onto this Johnson All Mahogany Guitar and was blown away with the deep rich sound it produced. To say i am a beginner is an understatement but even i could tell the resounding difference in this guitar even compared to brand names like EPIPHONE, FENDER, ALVAREZ, YAMAHA and i was looking at guitars with these brand names in the $300-$400 dollar range. This giutar is hands down one of the best sounding guitars at under $300. I took into Guitar Center ( the biggest guitar store in california) and they were even blown away with the sound it produced.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The action was set at the factory and I have to say it was near perfect for the beginnerand at least my style of play. The action is on the low side and has no buzz. Fit is a regular 41" dreadnaught. I am learning to play with the classical style position and it fits me near perfect. the finish is very appealing on top with the light stained Mahogany but the sids and back and neck are all stained dark which i think takes away some points in this catagory. I think to stain Mahogany dark really takes away from the natural grain and beauty wood like this.
In 3 months i have made so much progress and am now playing songs like PLUSH (STP), and GOOD RIDDANCE (green day). and they both sound great. Having a guitar that sounds good and is easy to play has givin me more and more confidence in playing and wanting to learn more.
Reliability/Durability

Well I have to say i have only had it 3 months but have been playing on it 1 hour or more every day since. Other than a few tunings which is easy with the new digital tuners i have not had to do anything yet. I bought this from aztecguitars.com and they gave me a 1 year warranty so if something does go wrong i will be covered. I bought this guitar to learn guitar on and if i continue to enjoy it and keep progressing i will most likely upgrade to a US Model of something more reputable, but for the price and sound there is nothing else out there that compares to it.

I have to say it again. This ALL MAHOGANY Guitar is by far the best value out there for under $300.
So you say "its made in China", Well i did some research and guess what there is only about 3-4 different guitar makers in China. And The same factory that makes JOHNSON GUITARS also makes some of the most popular name brand Guitars on the market. LEts face it Low end guitars are all made from the same material and shipped to the USA with different lables on them. If you are a begginer or even an experienced player i urge you to pick one of these up and you will be amazed at the ease of play as well as the dynamic sound it produces. And if you dont want it after that then ill take from you.
